Ever since the war ended Violet has felt herself lost, not knowing what to do and yet still following orders, trying her best at writing letters even when she doesn't understand the feelings she is asked to write about, making her best to do a good job

Since you were also working as an auto memory doll you took pity of her and helped her around (something that Claudia himself thanked you for), there is nothing much you could teach her around the building, she easily adapted to the place and the rythm of work, it was the part of the feelings that she was struggling with. It would be dificult to explain in words how feelings are and work so to help her understand better by spending more time with her, trying to create new memories and find things that could bring her new and better feelings to her life!

As a ex-soldier Violet only knew what it is to be in the battlefield, surrounded by the smell of blood and having to stay alert all the time and since she doesn't even bother on hide that part of her past you couldn't help but wanted to help, now that things are getting more peacefuly you started to help her learn other things of life out of the war

Maybe Violet didn't fully understood what you were trying to do but if it would help her understand what it is to love then she would accept, after all you were being kind enough to worry for her. You two spend so much time together that Violet start to grow way too used to your precense, creating a small rutine of sending time after work with you to experience new things, to have long talks about life, she got used to your laugh whenever she was taking things too serious or your reasuring smiles whenever she took a moment of hesitation before trying something new, even to how your eyes went all around whenever she asked something dificult to answer, Violet not only start to learn about all kind of new emotions but now every single one of them were are linked to memories of the time she spent with you

Violet didn't knew when or how it happened but at some point you have become her whole life, the inmense emptiness she felt after the war finished was replace by you, by your company, by your precense, by the feelings she has for you but she didn't realice until it was too late, Violet was too used to have you around that when you started to pay less attention to her she paniced, she was finally grapping her mind around her own feelings so you started to spend less time with her just to focus on your own work and to talk to the other people in your life, it wasn't like you were leaving her behind, you were just giving her some more freedom but she didn't wanted that, she wanted you back at her side, she wanted you at her side in every second of the day, and thats when she noticed how much she have grow dependant of you

You were trying to help her but she have glued to your side and make you her whole life and she was scared of it, what if she scared you with this? What if you get tired of her? What if you leave her all alone too? She didn't wanted you to leave her but now she was scared of her feelings, she can feel the burning need of your company, she wants to take you away from whoever you are talking to because she is scared of losing you, but acting on those feelings will lead you to leave her, isn't it?

At the end Violet decided to put distance between you two, giving you the cold shoulder without even realicing it, she just wanted to calm down, to force this feelings to cease so she won't scare you, to convince herself that you won't left her behind, but she end up completely avoiding you because of the fear that you may find her scary or even disgusting, after all she used to be a weapon for the war, if you see that side of her you will probably won't want to see her ever again

Violet was too scared of the posibility of you being afraid of her that she didn't realice how much she was hurting you, suddenly she just stopped even looking at you, at first you tried to stay positive and hope that she will go back to normal but it didn't happen, instead she put more and more distance, leading you to think that you probably have made something to make her uncomfortable, after all she didn't asked for your help, you just started to dragg her around the town to do all kind of things, maybe she didn't wanted to be rude, maybe you should have been more considerate, after all she is an ex-soldier

Things continue being extremely awkward between you two, it was so obvious that everyone around you started to grow concern, but even if they asked there was no clear answer, Violet insisted that everything was alright while you just didn't wanted to bother her any further, everyone wanted to help but there was no way they could interviene, there was just not the oportunity to do so, so at the end they decided to leave an oportunity for you two to be alone and, hopefuly, you two will talk about it

So, with the help of everyone else you two found yourselfs all alone in the office, work was already finished and there was only you two left, Violet was extremely nervous, wanting to run away so you won't see the mess she was right now while you were incredibly awkward, unable to look at her but still you manage to gain the courage to speak, just as she was about to leave you apologized, you wanted to help her, to make her feel welcome and comfortable, you never imagined you were over stepping the limit, you must be terrible for making her hate you so much that she can't look at you in the yes, aren't you?

However, your word just made Violet freeze, you? terrible? What are you talking about? The monster here is her, not you, you have being nothing but a ray of hope, you have become like a savior for her, with trembling lips she looks back to be able to tell you how wrong you were only to find the sight of your tears falling down from your eyes, looking even more shocked but quickly snapping when you apologize once again, you apologized for crying

Violet couldn't take it, she couldn't handle the idea of making you cry, not when you have done nothing but bring happiness and warmth at her life, with trembling lips but a lot of determinantion Violet finally confessed that she was the one who should be sorry, she have been avoiding you because she is scared, there is and intense growing feeling that makes her heart feel heavy but at the same time happy, she wants to be with you, to never leave your side but she is scared of what you may think of her, she is the one who is terrible because she have just made you cry

And then, like many other times before, you laughed softly, looked at her with the reasuring smile that she grow to depend of, saying that there was nothing wrong with her feelings, mistaken her feelings as simple love, mistaken her pain as being because this was the first time she experienced something like this, and recoprocating her feelings with a smile without knowing how deep and dark her true feelings are, without understand the effect this words have on her, without understanding that, for her this means you accept her feelings as they are, even those dark thoughts that make her being unable to work without your precense or those impulses that try to convince her that since her hands are already bloodstained there should be nothing that stop her from protecting her new found happiness, her love, and most important, you

To few known people he is heartless man who is willing to treat others as tools for any necessary means. But to you? A man with disclosed, but warming heart, who is funny and playful at times, while also keeping up the responsible face his workplace forces him to wear. Dietfried is the kind of man who despite working for long hours in his office, still finds time to come home, to embrace you in gentle hug. A simple touch from you is enough to return some light in his mind, after dark memories from his past haunt him in the moments of exhaustion.

If there is one thing Dietfried wouldn't admit to is his love for laying his head on top of your lap. If you had a dollar for how many times he silently pleads with his eyes to lay on your lap, you could end the world hunger. Dietfried is very decreet with how he asks for attention. Say you are sitting on the couch, catching up on the latest volume of your favorite novel, one that has been taunting you to read for the past week. He wasn't sure what to do, and only because of your support and love, he was slowly, but not fully recovering from the heartbreak of the loss of Gilbert.

Laying there, surrounded by nothing but the tranquility of this moment, he knew that this was something he would never give up on in his life. Being here with you was something he never imaged happening in his future. He always believed that he would end up marrying someone because of his family status, not finding someone who can stand with him. But you changed that, giving courage when he needed it the most, loving him when everyone around him viewed as the lowest scum by how he treated Miss Violet Evergarden. You were someone who didn't see look at him through the lenses of his status or his actions. You were looking at a Dietfried, a man with bright smile, who cherishes his family, and is willing to work hard beyond his capacity. I like a lot this prompt! It is incredibly comforting for me! It has being a while since last time i seriously thought about all this stuff but it is still comforting

Violet is really caring, she has problems dealing with her own feelings and expressing them but one thing is for sure, she want to spend her life with you!

Violet isn't really someone who likes to pry in your privacy, she decided to put her trust on you and want to believe that you will tell her the important things even if it takes you time, so for her to actually find the letter it has to be because she has a good motive to look throught your belongings and has your explicit permision otherwise she wouldn't even think on doing such thing

She didn't think much of it when she first saw the letter, even if the paper was folded she would hesitant for a moment before undoing it to see the content, besides if the paper was hide between some of your belongings she may asume thats is something private and she would almost simply let it where she found it or even directly ask you if it is anything important

The only reason why she end up reading it was because with a quick glance she noticed that it was a letter, by being a automemory doll she can understand the importance a letter can hold and she felt some sense of responsability, maybe it was a letter you didn't finished or you forgot to send and if that is the case she would like to help you finish the job, thats the only reason why she end up reading it

Violet end up reading the whole note at least twice because she simply cant understand it, she quickly get what the message means but she doesn't fully process the real meaning of it, or at least she doesn't want to fully understand it, it is clear that the note express despair and even a goodbye but still Violet has a hard time trying to understand, it is that someone else send it to you? Where you trying to say a farewell to someone? Why did you even wrote something like this?

Violet is so confused and even scare of what the note could truly mean that it would be stuck in her mind for a while, she isn't foreign to death but she is to the wish of a self inflicted dead, still her mind refuse to connect the dots for being so scare of losing you. This situation feels like it is eating her alive, she doesn't know how to react wich lead her to don't even know how to aproach the topic to you, but as time pass it would be more obvious how there is something bothering her

It is probably that she won't be able to express her worries until you decide to ask her about it because she doesn't even know how to ask about it, but once you do it becomes easier, still she will start by apologizing for reading a letter you wrote

As Violet start to express what have being troubling her it become more obvious how scare and confused she is, Violet is unable to fully understand the wish to die and is even asking you to please explain it to her because now she is scare of losing you

She tries her best to understand the feeling but that doesn't make her feel any more better, even when you clarify that that letter is something you wrote long ago and you have even forget about it she will not be able to calm down yet, she is way too scare of losing you to calm down, she wants to ask for more information to not only fully comprehend but also help you but at the same time is scare of triggering you by accident while asking

It will take Violet a while to finally accept the idea that those feelings are now just part of the past, even if you destroy the note she will need some reasurance and time, and even after that she will try to make sure you don't have those feelings again, she doesn't want you to wish to be dead, she loves you too much to see you suffer like that and she doesn't know what will happen to her if she lose you too

You stand proudly, straightening your back, and placing one hand to your heart to salute.

"Boots on?"

Trying to contain the laughter in, you lightly responded, "Certainly, captain."

A moment of silence falls between the two of you. The tension of the moment seems serious, until Dietfried breaks down his facade, running his hand through his hair and letting out a sigh.

"I still don't understand how you find my commanding voice more charming than my normal voice..."

"Hehe! C'mon, it is rare for you to use your serious voice outside your workplace. It helps me see all of you, not just dotting and caring lover."

Letting a grin form on his lips, he struts towards you. He looks down on you from his height, and bringing his arms around you to secure you by his side.

"Just doting and caring? What about charming? Or even handsome? Would it be too much to be called by one's lover se-"

Leaning forward, you let your lips greet him in a warm sensation. It was a quick peck, you pulling out, only for Dietfried to lean forward wanting more. His smooth lips captured yours, as if there was a magnet between you and Dietfried lips that pulled you back together, no matter how much you pulled back. You can taste the bitter coffee on his lips, mixed with a bit of his cologne and fruit fragrance from stealing a bite from your fruit during breakfast. A few giggles escaped your lips as Dietfried continued to kiss you for the next few minutes. Feeling the lack of oxygen overcoming you, you pulled your head away, only to push your forehead toward his forehead.

"As much as I would love to continue this fun 'lip exercise'," Dietfried chuckled at your wording, "Someone promised me to spend all day playing out in the snow. Rings any bell, mister?"

"Do we have to? I feel quite cozy next to you my beloved."

Giving him a pout seemed to do the trick, as he takes a deep breath, moving his head up before kissing your forehead.

"Let me get my gloves, and we can head out."

Excitement flashed through your eyes, beaming with the joy of a child. Dietfried loved that look on your face, the pure happiness that you shine to everyone around you, but only he can make it come to life. He treasures those moments when lingering past dark memories play with his perception of the world outside of warfare. Letting go of your warmth, much to his desire to hold on to you for a bit longer, Dietfried retrieves his leather gloves from the box on top the table next to the entrance, before extending his hand and looking at you.

"Shall we go before the snow melts?"

Taking his hand, you walked out of your house, heading in the direction of the outskirts of the city. Sure, there were plenty of places in the capital city where both of you could play around, but if there is one thing that both of you value it's quality time. Having a peaceful day full of laughter and excitement was more of your style between you and Dietfried.

As you walk up the road, you notice a giant snow hill, which appears fluffy and layered with different shades of crystals. A thought pops into your head. You let go of Dietfried's hand, before sprinting to the snow puddle, plumping into the thick layer of snow face forward. You can feel how deep you have sunken, barely maneuvering how to get out. Steps began to approach you before their owner shook his head.

"You are good there? Would you like a hand?"

"Nah, I got this. Give me a moment." a muffled noise came from you, causing Dietfried to sigh. A few seconds pass by with no motion coming from your body.

"Help."

"What's the magic word, love?"

"Get your ass here, before I make you join me." A burst of light laughter escaped Dietfried's lips before he lifted you by your waist. Turning you around, he wiped the snow from your cheeks and your hair. He wasn't sure if you were blushing from the snow or embarrassment.

"Compare to you, of cours-" You were met with the snowball lightly hitting your face. Looking flabbergasted and speechless by this betrayal, Dietfried began to hysterically laugh. Taking this chance to get at him, you formed a decent-sized snowball, delivering to his face, knocking him to the ground. Seating up from such an attack, a glimmer passes through his eyes. You can feel the chills pass through your body of the danger that was about to come.

For the next couple of hours, you and Dietfried went from tossing snowballs at each other to finding a cabin nearby next to a frozen lake. Fortunately, there were multiple skates left over, so why not have some fun skating together? Only for Dietfried to be good at the art of ice skating, while you were trying to get a few steps in without falling like a newborn baby. Luckily, your lover chose to help you out, taking it slowly until you got the hang of it. Then, it was just you trying balance skating and trying to catch snow on your tongue. Getting Dietfried to try to do it as well, he almost crashed into the snow, causing you to giggle a bit.

As the exhaustion began to slip through your bones, both of you chose to lay on a cushion of snow hill nearby. Taking deep breaths, you conversed about heading out soon, thinking of a warm beverage waiting for both of you to warm up your bodies. The moment of tranquility between you and Dietfried felt like time had frozen. The sound of nearby animals, the withered branches, even the wind has seized to be heard. Dietfried couldn't help but think this was a moment. A moment to tell you how much you mean to him. A moment to tell you how lucky he is to have you by his side. A moment to make you his till death do you part.

Sitting up from his spot, Dietfried tunes out in his thoughts. Thinking that something bad has run through his mind, you sit up alongside him, placing your hand on top of his. Something was bothering him, but knowing that it would be best if you let him address it would make him more comfortable. You sit in silence, until a soft voice comes from Dietfried.

"Do you recall the day two week after we met? When I accidentally tripped mid-air, hopping that no one would notice, only to have you witness that mess?"

"Oh, yes! Goodness, the look of embarrassment on your face was something I'm unlikely to forget, haha. Why bring it out all of a sudden?"

"Heh, while you remember it as something of a fun memory, for me to was a trigger of catalyst. Despite seeing me in that state, you were willing to help me out and ensure that I looked presentable. You chose to show me kindness, and from that point forward your kind heart has been something that I treasure the most in my life."

Turning his head towards you, he takes both of your hands into his before continuing, "I know that for the past couple years, many horrible and unexpected events have occurred. So many people have suffered and after losing Gilbert, I honestly thought that those conflicts and the aftermath of war would completely crush my mentality. But there was an anchor that always kept me from losing sanity, and it was you."

You breath hitched at the change of tone from Dietfried.

"I may not be the best person out there for you, not deserving your love after committing so much horror for the sake of surviving the brutality of reality, not fully appreciating everything you have done for me. But I am trying. And I will continue to improve myself, so I could prove how much you and your heart have changed and healed me. There is not a single day goes by, when I am not thanking God for gifting me this opportunity to be with someone like you. I know you say that you disregard yourself, thinking that you are a burden to other for sharing your troubles, not feeling beautiful compare to others. However," he takes a breath. I wrote it in the time where she was still a soldier because i thought that way it would be more interesting

Honestly, getting closer to Violet was a really smart move, she has being the most stronge and diligent soldier from the start, and not only that but she is also quite close to the major and his soft spot, so getting her to your side could be quite helpful. However, it wasn't an easy task, Violet barely answer to anyone that it isn't the major

A key for a spy is to not attracting too much attention, being an infiltrator means having to act and become one of them, so you slowly did that, working perfectly in the role you are playing, sharing laughs and sorrow with your comrades and innocently trying to include that poor child that is mostly seen as a weapon for others

Acting innocent as a simple curious soldier, asking your comrades about her and laughing at their silly jokes about her being the dog of the major, getting to know as much as you can and making a plan before slowly getting closer to her, being kind and treating her as an equal, even more, as a human

Honestly, the character you put and the efforts were slowly start to pay off as the major slowly start to trust you a little more when seeing your humility and kindness towards Violet, scolding you for being too soft but showing a clear trust, while for Violet, she was starting to feel something she has never felt before, only the major has ever treat her with this kindness, but with you is diferent, maybe you were acting a little to much to try to force her to look at you, but at the end it worked since Violet now can't take her eyes away from you

She doesn't understand how or even why, but Violet can't help but want to see more of you, your kind smile or you attempts to make small chat with her, praising her skills but also making sure she wasn't injured after the battles, it was all new for her and it was making her feel like anything else before, nor even the trauma of the war had affected her this much, maybe it was because, deep down you were what was making all she have endure worth it

Soon you started to see why Violet was treated like a simple weapon, since now it was you who she started following around without saying anything, everytime she has free time she imediatly goes searching for you, whenever you have to do the patroling she join you or whenever you are together in the squadron she tries to be close to you or at least keep an eye on you, just in case you need her help

It is her clinginess and her own silent step what end up making her find you sneaking around the important things of the major, looking throught the secret information, and yet her trust is still on you, she doesn't understand why but she feels like she can put her life in your hands, she can life and die for you, and it isn't dificult to notice when even when she had just discovered you she still look at you with those innocent and trusting eyes

This is a war, people do bad things to be able to win this battle, and you couldn't care much about morality in this moment, who will tell you that manipulate an innocent child into your little job would be wrong? her? your boss? No one, besides, if you win maybe you can win her forgiveness by offering her a good life, since she seem too eager to be with you and be useful for you then probably she wouldn't mind helping you a little

In all honesty, Violet didn't know what to think or how to react, but at this point she is too infatued to say no, even when she is not sure about all of this the moment you smile at her, pleading for her to keep the secret and asking her for help, saying that this would be something just between you and her, Violet will not be able to say no, not when this feels bigger than anything else, more important than herself, not when her burning feelings scream at her from the bottom of her heart that no matter what, she has to follow you because you are the only right thing in her life now

Thats how Violet happily start helping you, doing all you ask her to, it doesn't matter if she is betraying the person who had saved her as long as you keep smiling at her the same way, as long as she is useful for you nothing else matter
