not vintage but vintage-adjacent: a knockoff Gameboy (FC Retro 800-in-1)
Other day at the thrift a 500-in-1 game unit that looked vaguely like a Nintendo Gameboy showed up. Not sure if anyone bought it because once it came out of the case ($15 originally, $5 a week later) it was missing its battery, battery cover, and second controller (which is actually still on the shelf nearly a month later for $5). Curious, I went online to Amazon and bought myself a brand new one, this one with 800 games. And Imma tell you about it. [give a rat’s ass? click. do not? scroll.]
The listings were clear that there would be duplicate games, but that’s not unusual.
So a week later this arrived. Amused by the PlayStation button symbols and the Chinglish. For the record, the description under my pinky (”With powerful rechargeable battery pack, includes an AC adapter and a lithium-ion rechargeable battery, 6 hours of continues game play”) is inaccurate; the battery life is closer to 2, as many reviewers online pointed out.
I was amused how the online listings for these devices would change the names of the games to evade Nintendo’s sniffers, but then they put Mario in the advertising and Super Mario Brothers as the start screen.
Indeed there are 800 games listed, NES titles rather than Gameboy, and in playing a few I found duplicates, such as “Deflower” is Lode Runner with edited graphics and “Button Mushroom” is Super Mario Brothers unadulterated. There’s a controller which plugs into the top of the handheld and looks a lot like a NES D-pad, but it is only useable as Player 2... and with a cord of about two feet, you aren’t going to be maintaining a Covid-safe distance.
And the A/V cable that comes with it so you can play it on a television instead of its 3″ screen is about a foot long, and the RCA jacks on my TV are in the back, therefore I had to resort to plugging it into the VCR’s frontside jacks... as you do.
As a demonstration for y’all, let’s pop over to game 091: Arkanoid, my favorite take on Breakout. (And no, this does not contain Arkanoid II: Revenge of Doh.) Pretty good rendition. Playable with the arrow pad, sure, but definitely not as steerable as with the arcade’s spinner or even home systems’ joysticks.
For the record, Super Mario Bros is kind of unplayable despite the hype, because it runs at about 1.50x - 1.75x normal speed and jumping high enough to hit blocks seems to be a trick rather than a given. Anyhow, I am happy with my $15 purchase, since now I can play a lot of NES games -- if I can find them on the menu, it’s mostly but not entirely alphabetic -- wherever, whenever.
And for some reason, Pac-Man is the Russian-language release.
With that number of games (and copyrights be damnèd!) you’d expect to find more original titles you might be looking for and fewer duplicates with evasive names, but it’s still a pretty good showing, and despite this seeming a bit flimsy the game unit is actually pretty solid. Now if only the battery inside lasted longer than it takes to charge, that’d be cool... but recognising that it’s a standard size, a BL-5C such as found in Nokia phones, you could conceivably replace the 1020mAh battery inside with a 1200mAh to 2450mAh battery from eBay.

Visited the Goodwill Outlet and today’s haul includes:
Greenie M&M plush, for an M’s fan’s birthday in May, and she requires a bit of cleaning on the back side before then.
Depeche Mode 81>85 CD, which was issued because 86>98 (theoretically) needed a preface in the same compilation category.
SmartMedia card reader. Because I have several 2mb-64mb cards!
3-ring binder from The Puyallup Fair, which I live a couple miles from, and inside are two yellow tabbed dividers and several blank pieces of paper which were torn out of a looseleaf notebook.
A set of aluminum measuring spoons, which is an excellent vintage thing, but I noticed this one has two 1-teaspoons rather than including a 1/2 tablespoon. Yes, I can math out 1tsp + 1/2tsp is a 1/2Tbsp and know that 3tsp = 1Tbsp so having two teaspoons is kinda sensible, I just thought it was odd there’d be a duplicated spoon since there’s no simple way of removing the spoons from the ring.
Rio Volt SP150 optical disk player. Rio, during its SonicBlue ownership, made ‘Diskman’-style players that could read MP3s (or non-DRM WMAs) from CD-R or CD-RW as well as music CDs. This one seems to have some issues with the buttons or connector to the buttons because, for instance, Volume Down should not change the Shuffle/Repeat, but I can fiddle with it. I’m listening to a CD-RW of Men Without Hats’ “Again” two-part release as MP3s now and sometimes it just... jams. The music play, not the music itself, but that’s another matter because while I love Ivan I miss the power of “Love In The Age Of War”. One positive thing about this player though is that it will store a big chunk of audio to its memory and stop spinning the disk, saving battery and providing genuine skip protection of up to 160 seconds from a CD (or stores a 16 minute MP3).
XANADU (1980) on DVD still in shrinkwrap?!? Oh hell yes!! I admit I’ve never seen it but now I can.
Clipboard because I give them to people at work I like. This one was formerly used to record the temperatures of a walk-in cooler at a restaurant, so I scratched the Brother-printed label off.
A three-line set of RCA cables in case I need to connect my DVD player to the TV to watch Xanadu.
A pinback that can Tri-Force.
A skein of red acrylic yarn to save it from the dumpster.

It has been 30 years since Sears ended its association with the Silvertone brand, but the public's association is so strong to this day that many still believe Silvertone is a Sears brand. It is a testament to the success and quality of Sears' Silvertone products that the public still associates the two names so closely. The Sears Silvertone radio and Silvertone guitar, two highly collectible items today, are largely responsible for America's fond recollection of the Sears-Silvertone connection. In 1915, Sears introduced the Silvertone phonograph, a hand-cranked machine that came in tabletop and freestanding models. All phonographs came with a two-week, money-back guarantee. HISTORY: Sears began selling Silvertone radios in the early 1920s, soon adding Silvertone radio tubes and batteries to the product line. In the late 1930s, however, Silvertone radios quickly took off in popularity. The era corresponded with the outbreak of military aggressions in the Pacific theater. With the approach of World War II, increasing numbers of people wanted radios not just for entertainment, but also to receive updates on the war's progress, according to contemporary company sales analyses. During World War II, Sears introduced the Silvertone radio antenna with "stratobeam reception." And to help power the radios, Sears sold Silvertone wind generators. The Silvertone name replaced the Supertone brand on musical instruments in the 1930s. Struggling blues musicians of the 1940s and 1950s first popularized the Silvertone guitar, with legends such as Muddy Waters and Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup among those who played Silvertone. The Sears Silvertone guitar really made its mark in music history as the unofficial "first guitar" of guitar's icons. Chet Atkins, Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix, among many others, played their first chords on a Sears Silvertone. Sears' guitars have even been immortalized by their mention in songs from artists as diverse as Mary Chapin Carpenter ("Girls With Guitars") and G. Love and Special Sauce ("Blues Music"). Silvertones were popular with young musicians because of their solid construction and inexpensive pricing. Their legacy lives on today as literally hundreds of Internet pages are filled with fond recollections from people of their first guitar, the Sears Silvertone. As with the Silvertone radio, Sears Silvertone guitars are considered prized pieces of many guitar collections, particularly models such as the 1963 "amp-in-case" guitar, which featured an amplifier built into the guitar's carrying case. Many other musical and audio items bore the Silvertone brand name. Sears introduced a Silvertone record label in the 1920s, featuring many of the era's most popular recording artists. In the 1950s and early 1960s, the Silvertone brand name appeared on all Sears electronic equipment, including console televisions, tape recorders, walkie-talkies, radio batteries, hearing aids and car radios.

BEST SPEAKER FOR CLASSICAL MUSIC
Introduction- The best speaker for classical music is a matter of personal opinion and varies according to the sound of the venue. To locate the speakers that best suit your preferences and listening environment, take your time to investigate and contrast several possibilities.
Logitech Z625 Best Computer Speakers For Classical Music
The Logitech Z625 is a 2.1 speaker system, which means it consists of two satellite speakers and a subwoofer. It has a total power output of 200 watts RMS and supports multiple audio inputs, including 3.5mm, RCA, and optical. The inclusion of a dedicated subwoofer can enhance the listening experience by providing deeper bass frequencies, which can be beneficial for some classical music compositions that utilize lower-frequency instruments.
Genius SP-HF1250B V2 Best Vintage Speakers
The Genius SP-HF1250B V2 speakers feature a classic design with wooden cabinets and offer a total power output of 40 watts RMS. They come with a 4-inch woofer and a 1-inch tweeter, which can provide a balanced sound for general listening purposes.
To determine if the Genius SP-HF1250B V2 speakers are the best fit for your vintage audio setup, I recommend reading user reviews and comparisons to gauge their performance and overall value. Additionally, consider auditioning the speakers in person if possible, as listening tests can provide valuable insights into their sound characteristics and suitability for your listening preferences.
Nice boy RAZE Mini Portable Classical Music Speakers
evaluating portable speakers for classical music, consider factors such as sound quality, portability, battery life, and connectivity options. Classical music enthusiasts may prioritize speakers that offer clear and detailed sound reproduction to appreciate the intricacies of classical compositions.
At the top, you will find several mechanical buttons and a strap with a load capacity of 10 kilograms. You can hang the Nice Boy Bluetooth speaker somewhere or just hold it in your hand. Speaker power reaches 5 watts. The bass driver is located on the back.
Acoustic Energy Aegis Neo 3 Best Floor Standing Speaker
The Acoustic Energy Aegis Neo 3 is part of the Aegis Neo series and is known for its well-balanced sound signature, clarity, and detail. It features a 2.5-way design with two dedicated mid/bass drivers and a tweeter, which can deliver a wide frequency response and a spacious soundstage. The build quality and engineering of Acoustic Energy speakers have traditionally been praised by audiophiles.
When evaluating floor-standing speakers, it's essential to consider factors such as sound quality, build construction, room size, and aesthetics. Listening to the speakers in person and comparing them to other models can provide valuable insights into their performance and suitability for different types of music, including classical music.
Canton GLE 490 Best Computer Speakers For Classical Music
The Canton GLE 490 is well-regarded for its audio performance, particularly its clarity, detail, and ability to handle a wide range of frequencies. These qualities are important for classical music, as the genre often features intricate instrumentation and delicate nuances that benefit from accurate sound reproduction.
ELAC FS 68.2 Classical Music Speakers
They are as huge as Canton but designed completely differently. Instead of a dynamic and slightly aggressive look, it looks solid, luxurious, and elegant. They enchanted our model the most during the photoshoot. The baffle is made of 1.2 cm thick MDF boards, the front wall is slightly suspended and provided with a layer of black piano lacquer with a deep gloss. The height changer with silk dome is a cover behind a fine metal mesh, which is not optimal from the acoustical point of view.
Conclusion -
In conclusion, finding the best classical music speaker involves careful consideration of various factors, including sound quality, design, compatibility, and personal preferences. Classical music enthusiasts often seek speakers that can faithfully reproduce the intricate details and nuances of classical compositions, delivering a balanced and immersive listening experience.
While there are several reputable brands and models known for their performance with classical music, the definition of the "best" speaker can be subjective, varying from person to person. Audiophiles and music purists may prefer high-end, specialized speakers that excel in accuracy and fidelity, while others might prioritize affordability and a vintage aesthetic.

Had some time recently to put the finishing touches on my battery-powered AM transmitter.
I started this project because the AC-powered AM transmitter I have picks up a lot of noise from the electronics in my house. I figured I’d have a better chance of noise-free listening if I was using a battery-powered transmitter.
I found a YouTube video from Gregg’s Vintage Workshop where he built this transmitter in the point-to-point wiring style on a cutting board. I used his drawing (schematic) and modified it to fit onto a small perf-board. Then I built an enclosure for it.
The enclosure is an old metal chassis I had. I primed and painted it in a hammered metal finish. Then I grabbed some scraps of wood (purple heart and poplar) to add some nice decoration to the metal. Lastly I added an old dead vacuum tube to the top as a finishing touch. Finished the wood with boiled linseed oil which really brings out the color.
At first I had some grounding issues with the enclosure, since it’s battery-powered, it needed a floating ground instead of grounding to the chassis.
Once I isolated the RCA jacks and tuning capacitor, it sprang back to life.
The other night I got it working with my Bosworth antique radio. Was pretty fun to tune into my own radio station and hear Spotify in low fidelity. :D
Stay tuned for more fun with electronics!

SCP ████: The Demiurge Machine
Item #: SCP ████
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP ████ is to be kept in an empty room that is 84 feet long and 50 feet wide. A generator must be connected to its containment chamber to keep SCP ████ from connecting to Site █ electricity. Any electrical wires in Site █ should be disconnected to SCP ████ chamber in case it activated. Ever 3 weeks all 4 walls should be laid over with a new wall. Battery Powered Security Camera should set at each corner of the room monitoring both subjects, SCP ████, and entities. Site █ hand pick a member from the ████ family line and teach them about hold computer operator for SCP ████ and two D-Class are to assist ████ to do research on SCP ████ for any anomaly. D-Classes should protect the subject from any harm, add another wall over the doors, follow the instruction given by the researcher and the subject. Both of the D classes and the subject should have a walkie talkie to hear the researcher when carrying out the test. Outside of SCP ████ containment is two guards equip with a Kel-Tec RDB, Semi-Automatic.
Description: SCP ████ appears to be a handmade machine that is made with a large RCA TV with VHS & DVD Player that is hooked to 3 LCD monitor and 3 CRT monitors with many cables next to the RCA TV. There are two Sun Vintage computer Keyboards and one mouse in the drawer underneath the RCA. Both the RCA, LCD, and CRT are attached to a Balt 90107 LX Gray Computer Workstation that is 72W x 24D x 29H. When SCP ████ is off its screen can be seen through revealing a black gel-like substance covering the raw material. On closer inspection, the gel is converted and repairing worn out materials. Any attempt on removing the screen to collecting the substance was unsuccessful.
Thought random periods SCP ████ is manifest a door out of nowhere taken about 30 seconds to fully materialize. The doors know as SCP ████-1 appears to be made of a non-reflective black material with a purple door frame and purple doorknob. Video footages show that SCP ████ is creating a tear in space while using the hydrogen atom taking a form of SCP ████-1. During this event, all power in the room flickers or power out till the door is finished materializing. When the door appears it open on its owns letting out many different entities, most are of the creature are hostile while the other should no hostile tendency. When looking inside the doors it reveals a dark staircase that goes in a straight downward angle. Waiting for O5 to allow us on the exploration of SCP ████-1. Some of the entities had to be contained while others had to be terminated. When killing the entities they later come back remembering what happens to them. Studying the entity bodies reveal their hox genes are independent and possess no faults to decay but only to adapt with hydrogen atoms. A few of the entities keep returning even after being kill. The following entities are that keep returning are the following:
SCP ████ A: Is a tall pale man with black hair and a navy blue sweater that has an inside tag that said, Ruth. SCP ████ A has a drawn happy face similar to those you see on a child drawings. SCP ████ A has not shown to change express or even moving/blinks its eyes. SCP ████ A has little to no cooperation to staff and D Class. SCP ████ A door is founded in different locations near a newborn to adolescence. SCP ████ A doesn't possess vocal combination but use gesture or contorting his body beyond a normal contortionist. SCP ████ A has shown to have a playful behavior when interacting with children. Any violence towards any children will result in SCP ████ A to violently kill its target. After killing it target SCP ████ A will return to its normal state. SCP ████ B: Staff member and D-class said they have seen a little girl with dark brown hair that stops pass her shoulder, some even said that she wore a red wool jacket wondering around Site █ and have been seen in different SCPs containment chamber. Footages have shown no sign of a little girl at any point in time. There was an event where two researcher encounter SCP ████ B but only one could see her facing away from them while the other researcher sees nothing. Later other researcher said they have dreamed of the girl they saw but they never got the chance to see her face. Staff said that they felt like seen the girl from somewhere in their life. SCP ████ C: These entities are copies of staff members and SCPs including SCPs that were terminated by the Foundation with both the same memories as seen in an Auto Log. These creatures behave as if they have been working for the foundation as long as the original and they believe they're the original person. There was an event want SCP ████ created copy of SCP ███-█ which kill 35 members till it was killed by SCP ████ E with its head decapitated. SCP ████ D: A group of armed robotic soldiers with advanced technological design in weapons. SCP ████ D appears to be not hostile toward staffs or D-class. Instead, SCP ████ D came to check for any world ending events. SCP ████ E: Is a muscular Caucasian male who appears to be in his early to mid-twenties. He has blond hair, has heterochromia eyes, right eye yellow and left eye purple with a black color around the sclera of that. SCP ████ E is height is 1.85m / 6.1ft and wear a brown coat as seen from a surveillance camera. Surveillance Footages at SCP ███ and SCP ███ containment chamber show SCP ████ E in their chamber just sitting near them and just watching them before leaving out of the chamber with no footage or guards saying that he was there or even left. Both security footage shows that SCP ████ E was at both containment chamber March 10 on 3:36 A.M. During the copy SCP ███-█ event SCP ████ E can create weapons from out of nowhere similar to SCP ███-█ but Slow-motion video footage reveals that the weapons are materializing through hydrogen atom particles from its surrounding. There still no explanation as to how SCP ████ E got to both SCP ███ SCP ███ location when both Site 17 and Containment Area 25b with no door to be found. SCP ████ F to T: Creature that coming out of the doors have shown hostile behavior towards any nearby victims.Different types of creature that have a close resemblance to our animal such as a creature that a few distinct features toward a bear that produce deadly Miasma from the small hold around it necks and back. Other creatures that come out appear to have to have a familiar appearance toward other SCPs and event function the same way. The Rest of the files for the following SCPs ████ are Classified by O5 command.
Origin: SCP ████ was discovered around ████ when multiple people said they discover multiple black doors found around blizzard area in ████ with no explanation. Later on a Radio Station and ███ News report about an unknown, they haven't seen and people found dead or missing. The Foundation soon heard about this an arrive to ████. They later discover SCP ████ in an abandoned warehouse with it wires sticking through the ground that leads all the way to ████ Voltage Transformers. Foundation soon stops ███ News and confiscate any tape that is connected to SCP ████ later, telling the Radio Station to say that it was ARG for an upcoming show.
Note from Dr. Constance: After many multiple tests on SCP ████ all staff member have come to an agreement on exploring SCP ████-1s to know what is creating all of these entities and if there a way to contain them form the inside of SCP ████-1.
Note from Dr. Constance: I didn't write that to the O5 command, we still didn't come to the agreement on the exploration. Who wrote this?

I guess I could get more detailed on specific setups if y'all have questions about certain tones/songs or whatever. Thanks for listening and appreciate the love.
#PYRAMIDS FRANK OCEAN PRODUCER SOFTWARE#
Always send the duet through stereo pair of 1073 (any software based stuff has to leave the computer and hit some kind of circuit board). I play the virtual stuff out of my laptop rig (tools/duet2) into my HD rig. Computer stuff is arturia (best shit ever), battery (can still load all my old mpc sounds!), mtron (baddass). Juno 106, Wurlitzer, b-3 organ, Rhodes (keys). P Bass, epiphone eb-2, Yamaha piece of shit ive had since high school (basses). I play old strats, les Paul, 335 (electrics). Vox chain: 1073/cl1b or 1073/Fairchild 670, also used standalone Avalon 737 (part of a mobile rig we created). Coles 4038 stereo room, RCA 44 for close on violins, u67 for cellos Vocals: U47 and 251 (vintage), M149, sm58 (yup)-Įlec guitars: re20 and m160 (fender Princeton, ac-30)Īcoustic guitars: royer 122 (tube), u47, Km84.īass: DI chain is trace elliot GP12 into avalon 737 (just for eq), then squashed thru 1176. Im kinda rambling like a f*k!n idiot right now, so I'll just list some gear I remember using on the records. I've made music on bootleg versions of cubase (big boi) and on the other end re-tracked vox thru a studer A827- back thru a Fairchild 670 (comp) 1073 (eq) back into tools (part of the post process on channel orange). I love gear, shitty stuff, vintage stuff, new stuff. Through the years, I've realized music should never be forced. If it veers off path, I'd rather ditch it and try again another time. A typical session for me starts with me laying down some musical ideas (guitars, keys, drums) and we'll start laying down some lyric/melody concepts. I find creating ideas from scratch with the artist is much more rewarding and allows for the song and the sound to be catered to the specific project. I used to do the track thing when I was younger, but it never really worked out for me. Id rather go into the studio with the artist and/or writers and create from scratch. My writing process with most artists (including frank) is very artist specific i.e.

The RCA VHS camcorder in this photo fell from my basement ceiling and hit the cement hard. It no longer works. In the same night/set up, I also had my brother’s old 8MM Sony Handycam (the one I mentioned in my last post) and it also fell off a tripod. It still works but the video output ripped out. Which is really too bad because I was building a standard definition multicam studio set up but soon realized if you wanna have a live feed using the video output, some models of old cameras will turn off if you aren’t recording internally, a power save feature so if you forget the camera on, it won’t drain the battery. This Sony Handycam was one of the rare ones that never shut down and worked great. Was divesting to lose 2 of my better retro cameras in one night. Luckily I still have 14 other ones. Now these ones will be just for show. #vhs#timevault#analog#classic#vintage#retro#vcr#oldtech#avtech#retrotech#nostalgic#nostalgia#old#nerdshit#vhscollector#vhstapes#vhsforever#archive#90s#movies#camcorder#8mm#sonyhandycam#sony#rca#broken#mishap
