He hadn’t fished much back when he lived in the more wooded area of Tenby, and he can’t say it’s his favorite thing in the world, but there’s never not going to be a demand for food, and Alfie knows him becoming a fisherman fills a void in their little village.

Thursday 15th
After 2 nights in Doha we travelled on an early flight on an A380 to Heathrow London, a 7 hour flight. Here we picked up our hire car and left for Saundersfoot Wales. We arrived just on sundown (2130). The cottage we have rented has recently been renovated very nicely but it does have some quirks, like the kitchen door closes after each entry! Also, there's no back door to outdoor area, you have to walk out front door and around the house to the back. Not ideal for eating out. Saundersfoot is a lovely beachside village in the southwest. We did some exploring after the necessary trip to the supermarket. Tenby is one village we'd like to see more of. It was teeming with visitors and holiday makers and we couldn't find a car park anywhere.!! We'll have to go very early in the day next visit.

                              GHOSTLY FIRES OF JAPAN
Hitodama is the Japanese word for fatuous fire. According to Japanese mythology the souls of dead people recently take this form and appear as spheres of pale blue color with a small tail, particularly in cemeteries and during summer nights. It is believed to herald the arrival of a ghost. There are 100 different variants throughout Japan. There may be positive fires (yoka) and even negative fires called onibi or inka. The inka does not feel warm, it seems phosphorescent. It heralds a spirit and it is rare that it appears driven by its own will. This creates a gloomy and dark atmosphere and appears bluish in color. Below you can find some examples.
 ABURA AKAGO
This yokai is typical of the area of Otsuhaccho, province of Omi, in Shiga prefecture.
It is said that the sky in the city was crossed by a ball of fire.
The story goes that in the village there was a man who sold oil stolen from a jizo at the street of Otsu. After a while he died and was unable to obtain eternal rest precisely because of his thefts and then turned into a wandering fire.
Then the strange facts began: a child was spotted who started licking the oil from the lamps during the night. The residents had no doubt that it was the reincarnation of the oil thief.
In the North East of Japan there were already in the past stories of mysterious fires that entered the houses from the windows just long enough to "steal" the oil from the lamps and then disappear into the night.
 ABURA GAESHI
Near the pond of Koya (today it is one of the districts of the city of Itami) in the dark and early summer nights but also in the winter ones mysterious mysterious fires appear.
These fires come from the tomb of Senso which is located south of this pond, cross the embankment and climb Mount Nakayama. Some say they are souls of thieves who have committed theft at the temple, others believe instead that the fires are a torchlight procession on the occasion of a ceremony among foxes (kitsune) that are more to the north.
 AKUROJIN NO HI
In the parts of Ise (in the region of Mie) there was a creature that appeared on rainy nights, looked like a lantern and whoever met it fell ill with fever and then died.
To escape his spell it was necessary to throw himself on the ground and lie on his stomach and wait for him to go away.
 BAKEBI
it is a mysterious fire that roamed antiquity near Omi. It appears on cloudy days and looks like a small fire set on the shores of the lake but that gets bigger and bigger as it gets closer to the mountains. It can also reach a diameter of one meter. On clear nights, however, it never appears.
 INNENBI
It means "fire of the thoughts left" as so many spirits of fire are connected to the feeling of rancor that did not die after the death of a person. In many cases they appear 2 at a time and are often considered to be men and women. It is believed that they are the souls of people who died along the way or of people who met a cruel end.
Others think that the fact that they appear as a couple is the sign that they are the souls of lovers on the run, who have found their end by committing suicide.
 JANJANBI
It is a mysterious fire that appears in the Nara region. The origin of the name of this yokai is particular because it is actually an onomatopoeic sound.
They are usually flames that fly in pairs and those who meet them must immediately lower their heads and not look at them.
In Kyuushu it is called Tenbi, meaning sky fire.
It is as big as a lantern, it can cause fires and if any human being comes into contact with this mysterious entity he ends up getting sick.
To chase it away, just ring a bell.
In the Miyazaki region it appears mostly on rainy nights.
This yokai is linked to a very famous party that takes place on June 7th each year. 20 boys and 20 girls dance in pairs to the sound of music to remember the dance of these mysterious flames.
 KAWABOTARU
These are cold fires that appear at night on the Inba pond, Chiba region.
They are visible to only one at a time even if there are people around this.
During one night a fisherman saw a fireball on his boat. The fire was not hot but it could not be turned off, on the contrary, it grew larger with time.
The man was scared but obviously he couldn't leave the boat. He started waving his arms but eventually the flames disappeared by themselves.
According to some it is fireflies and according to others they are fires generated by tanuki.
They appear especially on rainy or cloudy days in May and June.
 KOSENJOBI
In some areas it is called senjogahi (battlefield fire). The ancient battlefields are not exactly as they appear. They are not just large expanses of grass steeped in history. They are impregnated with blood, bad memories, tears, pain and anger. Dead souls on those lands become full of resentment and become fire. It is said that the regret of those who die in a violent manner forces his spirit to wander.

Because I can't reply to your post for some reason (laptop or tumblr or both not working). Holiday - Pembrokeshire! Loads of great walking and castles (i like castles). We went in July last year and it was perfect, we're off again in two weeks. You can get to Tenby easily by train, the smaller villages are a bit more haphazard.
That was rather fast! ^^ Thanks a lot - I’ll absolutely have an in depth look at Pembrokeshire! First pictures online sure look magnificent.

Revisiting The Sealey Challenge 2021
Well, I didn't actually come across the Sealey Challenge until just after it started last August... more details on their website but basically it originally started when poet and editor Nicole Sealey decided that she needed to boost her own reading and to blitz an unread poetry pamphlet/collection per day thru the month of August.
I picked up the challenge from c. 2nd August 2021 (this was maybe the 3rd or 4th year in) and I think it's fair to say that I STAGGERED through it from there!
Tumblr media
It probably didn't help that we went off to Tenby for three weeks during the first week of August, with me having left behind the smallish number of books I'd pulled off my TBR pile (I mean, the pile is huge, but most of them at that time weren't poetry books...). But at the same time, being in a village with no bookshop was probably good for the bank balance and certainly pushed me to discover the online library service which enabled me to borrow e-books to help finish the challenge. Poems on electronic devices have their own special issues (I guess) given that the layout can be so important, and not straightforward to control [erm, impossible?] on a screen.
The act of looking back - and looking for the image of the books on the table at work (freshly fetched from Hatchards on Piccadilly) - caused me to stumble over other look-back photographs and to realise that at this point in the review/reflection cycle, it's the act of choosing to look back that has my attention, as opposed to what the activity in question was about.
Reading poetry in the case of the Sealey Challenge, sure, but other photographs looped me back round into - the first round attempt at the making of collage in inquiry. For me, this was Oct/Nov/Dec 2014, we were half way through our time living in Bathurst Mews, and I'd just started the Ashridge Masters in Sustainability and Responsibility.
Tumblr media
And here's the other end of the "collaging" arc - this time, printing the squares as displayed in Instagram. Image is me prepping for my doctoral viva, which was held remotely because - covid... Oct 2020, so six years later...
Tumblr media
And a glimpse of those collages appearing in the viva ppt which I prepared in lieu of having a physical room to decorate for my presentation. Thinking back, I'm certainly lucky in the format of the viva, given that my external examiner would not have been available to travel to the UK, and could not have come to the UK anyway for this purpose, under visa restrictions.
I mean, I guess it's possible that she would have been allowed to dial in but - that lopsidedness would hardly have been ideal and it was before "hybrid" became more mainstreamed.

Tenby also is home to a picturesque harbour, lush Mediterranean style foliage and charming narrow cobbled streets packed with hints of breath-taking views, shops, galleries, cafés and restaurants. Nearby villages such as Manorbier, Lydstep and St Florence offer peaceful family holidays with easy access to beaches, zoos, waterparks and theme parks. Kelvin grows up, and I adore his face! I just realized I don’t remember his mother at all, but he must look very much like her because I don’t see Elliot in him at all facially.

Une cathédrale !
Tumblr media

Manorbier Castle Wedding Photography | Rebecca & Ben
Rebecca & Ben| Manorbier Castle Wedding
R & B got married on 24th June 2017 at Manorbier Castle in Pembrokeshire, South Wales. After an early morning start I arrived in the beautiful seaside town of Tenby for the start of the wedding day. Bex and her bridesmaids were busy having their hair and makeup done, the dresses were ready and the flower girl had arrived. Once everyone was ready I headed off to Manorbier to meet the nervous groom.
Manorbier Castle is a Norman castle located in the village of Manorbier, five miles south-west of Tenby situated overlooking a beautiful unspoilt beach. When I arrived all the guests were mingling around the grounds and exploring all the wonders of the castle. Ben and the groomsmen were busy making sure everything was perfect for when Bex arrived. Bex was surprised with a trip to the castle in a lovely old Bentley wedding car and so arrived in style with her proud father.
After a beautiful ceremony in the old vaulted chapel everyone went outside for drinks and canapes in the castle grounds. Manorbier has lots of quirky spots for couple portraits so we explored the castle and got creative from tight walled corridors to amazing views over to the beach.
Now usually the next stage in the wedding day is the speeches but this this was no ordinary wedding and the guests entertained by the enigmatic Howard Wing. This is the first time I had seen Howard Wing do his thing but what can I say, this guy can get everyone on their feet singing and howling with laughter. This made my job a lot easier allowing me capture natural and fun photos of the wedding guests enjoying themselves. If you haven’t seen any of Howard’s work go check him out at http://www.howardwing.co.uk.
Once the party train and gone out and back into the Gazebo it was time for everyone to take a deep breath and sit down for round two – the speeches and later on some monkey business with guys. Seriously this was one fun party. It was time for some fresh air so I went for a quick stroll with R & B and the wedding party for some natural shots on the beach. It was a shame it was so windy but it didn’t put these guys off as we captured some incredible photographs. Now there is a usually a lull in the night before the first dance but the party carried on going until I headed off into the night back home.
I have to say this has to be one of the most fun and entertaining weddings I have had the pleasure to cover and it was wonderful meeting lots of new people. I want to give a big shout out to Adam Wing who was the videographer on the day and kept me company through this madcap wedding. It was a pleasure working with you and hopefully we will meet up again in the future. You can check Adam’s work out here http://www.adamwingfilms.com
So enjoy the photo from Bex and Ben’s day and if you’re planning to get married in Pembroke or at Manorbier castle and you want a wedding photographer that will make sure you have fun on the day and be left with fun memories you will treasure forever then get in touch. If your wanting more, check out some other Manorbier Castle wedding photography on my blog

A Visit to Caldey Island off the coast of Pembrokeshire, Wales. A pleasant boat trip, which both girls loved, took us from Tenby across the bay to the beautiful isle of Caldey or Ynys Bŷr in Welsh. We explored the island, had lunch in the village. Then visited the old priory, saw a couple of rare Black Swans and the chocolate factory before heading back across the water to Tenby.
