All TV series I've ever seen II
Let's see how many I remember from this time period.
1940 - 1970
1980 - 2000 (this post)
2010 - Now
1983 - V
Aliens have come to Earth but they are nice and willing to help us... or so they say.
Everybody remembers Diana eating rats, the dramatic face reveal of any reptilian, Freddy Krueger beeing a good guy (this time) and I'm sure Stephenie Meyers wish that Reneesme/Jacob had the same level of acceptance than "the child from the stars" (name given in Latinoamerica, don't know if it was also used in the original show) and whats-his-name.
Saw it on TV but we also bought the bootleg DVD because my mom and aunt never saw the ending of the show as kids.
1985 - Amazing Stories
I hardly remember anything (I was too young when it was played on TV) but I do remember beeing traumatized by Christopher Lloyd's severed (and reattached) head.
It was created by Spielberg, some stories land better than other ones. Maybe I should try and rewatch some?
1986 - Sledge Hammer
Is he sexist, violent, gun-lover and conservative AF? Yes... but he's also hilarious! This is satire people! Don't be like the NRA that gave somekind of award to this fictional character because they have the same level of comprehension than a brick.
Saw it on TV but it is also available on Youtube.
1986 - ALF
Alien finds himself on a typical american family house and chaos begins.
Do you live under a rock? Don't you know who ALF is? Just go watch it.
It was on TV when I was growing up, I'm pretty sure you can find it anywhere.
1989 - The Simpsons
I will keep on saying it, we argentineans speak in 3 languages: Spanish, Lunfardo (a Buenos Aires dialect but each province has their own as well) and Simpsons' quotes (latin spanish obviously, everyone agrees that it's the definitive Simpsons). Earlier seasons are better, we all know that... they kind of lose us when the original latin dubbers were replaced (it would seem that Disney brought them back but I hardly watch TV now, so I don't know)
1989 - Eureeka's castle.
I don't remember a THING about it but my family says that I was obsessed. It's a Muppet-style show of a young witch apprentice and her friends.
Upon further looking, it was co-written by R. L. Stine? So I didn't got into Goosebumps as a child but got this... who knows?
1989 - Agatha Christie's Poirot
I haven't watched everything just yet (it's been on for 20 years, people!) but I do like David Suchet's Hercules Poirot (my family disagrees because for them Poirot will always be Peter Ustinov). Hey, at least it's not Albert Finney!
1990 - Caloi en su tinta (Caloi in his own ink - Argentina)
It wasn't a series properly said... it didn't have a story to follow. Caloi was a very important artist in my country (his character Clemente became a staple in our comics just like Mafalda) and he had this TV show where he curated animations of all kinds, from all over the world. I remember seeing a stop-motion version of Barber of Sevilla and I think that I also saw Queen's Innuendo videoclip for the first time in here.
Some stories were funny, others melancholic, elegant or grotesque... but all of them were Art, with a capital A.
1990 - Twin Peaks
I don't understand the hype around this show. The only thing that I though was cool was to have a season and a half to find the killer.
Before someone tells me "you have to think how ground breaking it was in the time it came up" or "it's high end art, open your mind to it" trust me I can do that... it doesn't change the fact that I don't see why so many people like it so much.
I'll grant it a few points for showing us David Duchovny as a trans woman FBI agent that saves the day on the episode she shows up. I did like the character.
1993 - The Nanny
What would happen if instead of María taking care of Von Trapp's children in the Alps, we had a jewish it-girl from Flushing, Queens? That was Fran Drescher's pitch, the rest is history.
I got to confess I usually get bored with sit-coms but this is the only one that I can watch over and over again (and the final episode still brings single tear in my eye). Yeah, the whole plot of Fran trying to get pregnant was dragged for too long, but still it's like 3 or 4 episodes, no biggy (unless my memory fails, it's been a while).
1993 - Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
For whatever reason a alien (?) race decided that teenagers are the appropiate warriors so they choose 5 Angel Grove locals to kick Galactic-Witch Rita's ass. Monsters that grow size but still look like rubber suits, the Rangers use spandex but for whatever reason they release sparks when a blade touches them. Still sweet little 4 year old me loved this show.
I checked a few episodes on Youtube not too long ago and I was pleasently surprised by the fact that each monster represented a struggle the Rangers where having on their civilian life... so facing and defeating them actually helped these kids in their ordinary life. A nice message that I completely forgot while self-convincing myself that this show was a lot dumber than I remembered.
Oh! By the way when it was on TV I watched -maybe- up to season 2. When the movie came out I was shocked that Jason, Trini and Zack were not in it.
1993 - The X Files
The most recognizable tune ever, the OG monster-of-the-week format, a skeptic + a believer, some comedy, another bit of drama and , in ocassions, straight-up horror = one of the greatest TV shows ever made.
Regardless what people think I preffer Agent Dogget (there, I said it!!) to Mulder, but of course that sunflower-seed eater, porn aficionado, spooky guy will always be loved either way.
Of course I didn't watched on TV (my mom and aunt had that privilege, I was literally a baby) but I got the whole series on bootleg DVD.
1993 - Frasier
I only watched a few mixed up episodes and I have the first 4 seasons on bootleg DVD but it was my aunt who liked it the most.
A psicologyst with a radio TV show has to live with his dad and his brother visits very often.
You might recognize them as Sideshow Bob and his brother as well.
1994 - Friends
Watched it on cable when I had it, mixed up as usual but still... for whatever reason sitcoms bore me... and this is not the exception. Again, I don't understand the hype.
1995 - Xena: Warrior princess
Ancient Greece, a female warrior... my (probably by the time we got it in Argentina) 6 year-old self loved this show. Until certain fling with Hercules... I didn't liked romance then (or now, but I'm a little more tolerant as an adult) and it ruined the show for me.
Yes, now I see certain undertones that my youngself didn't. I get it. Leave me alone!
1995 - Hercules: The Legendary Journeys
Yeah... I didn't liked Hercules but I watched a few episodes either way. I always liked a good fight on TV.
1996 - Sabrina, the teenage witch
Who didn't wanted to have magical powers growing up becuse of her?
I can't really tell how many season I've watched because, as I said, in Argentina you were lucky if the TV channels bought more than 2 season to repeat on end. Still... I didn't quite liked it as much once she left for collage. Kinda lost its magic *wink, wink*
1996 - Millenium
The year 2000 was upon us and the promise of the end of the world, so Chris Carter decided to play a little bit with it.
Frank Black is a retired agent that has a peculiar way of getting into the mind of the criminals (the audience is the only one that knows that he can see what the criminals see... live) so he is called over an over again to help on different cases.
It ended too soon (got cancelled I believe) but it has its final episode in season 9 of The X Files (if I'm not mistaken). It deals a lot with religion (mostly Christianity) and its a lot darker than Mulder & Scully's adventures (with the exception of that one episode where 4 demons get together in a coffe shop -desguised as old men- and tell their latest works done).
1997 - Meego
I got to be honest with you... I hardly remember anything from this TV show. It was basically ALF but with a human playing an alien instead of a puppet. Still we remember it fondly at home so I guess it was good enough?
1998 - Charmed
Argentina beeing Argentina, I saw a few seasons... maybe... I do remember that I liked more the original 3 sisters.
It's fun... sometimes cheesy... as any tv or film of that time.
1998 - Will & Grace
As I said, sitcoms end up becoming boring and repetitive. But that doesn't take away that sometimes jokes are good... some are very 90, but ah, well...
2000 - Dark Angel
Maybe I saw 2 season on TV but I was obsessed.
Typical supersoldiers experiments developed this superhuman creatures that got tired of beeing an experiment and broke out the facility when they were children, so now as grown ups live in our society. The lead Max (Jessica Alba) has a job as a courrier but every now and then steals, that's how she meets Logan a journalist with vigilante tendencies that needs someone to do the dirty work.
2000 - CSI (later known as Las Vegas)
Have I ever watched a show just to laugh at it? Yes, and it was called CSI, the original (I saw a lot of Miami as well).
I had a few glimpses here and there from this procedural that were the definition of Deus-ex-machina and later I decided to give it a shot just to see if, within this universe, it made sense. And nope.
If one of mom's doctors dissed House for his nearly-impossible diagnosis... I'm pretty sure some forensics did the same with Grissom's team.
Side note I really love Ted Danson, that guy is awesome.
2001 - Law & Order: Criminal Intent.
At first I thought it was a yet another The Brain + Person that explains him like many others... but Goren and Eames are the best detective duo. PERIOD.
You get to see them investigating (so Goren, mostly, doesn't know everything off the bat... he does go to the library, kids) and Eames is not just a blank space for the audience to jump in and have Goren explain everything to her. My favourite moments are when she can add up to his theory by just having the female side of things.
Goren isn't the typical I-only-think kind of detective (like, let's say Poirot) he can -and will- get into dangerous situations when needed.
You have to watch for D'onofrio's performance.
I like Jeff Goldblum as well... but his season was kinda... meh
2002 - Los Simuladores (The Pretenders - Argentina)
What if there was a group of people to solve any kind of situations? And what if this situations are quite basic, borderline stupid, like meeting the in-laws, giving a hard exam at the end of the year and such?
This is it, that's the plot.
This was a huge hit back in the day but it took me a decade (almost) to watch because if you knew argentinean tv and film as I do... you wouldn't believe that there are actually some good ideas burried very very deep in the mud.
2002 - Monk
A detective with OCD is soooo good at his job but cannot be a detective again because of it (it got worse once his wife died in a attack). Fun and wholesome... maybe it did dragged for too long.
And no matter what... we are Sharona stans in this house!
2002 - CSI Miami.
Just like CSI I watched it just to make fun of it (and because in cable they will put all CSIs together in one afternoon so it was easier to compare them).
At least this one didn't take itself too seriously!
2003 - Tru Calling
Med student has a weird ability where dead people can reach her and make her repeat the day to try and save their lives.
It ended too soon on a great cliffhanger that we will never see resolved. Damn it!
2004 - Lost
We all know Lost... it started great... and it ended.
Luckily for me the TV channel where I was watching it stopped after season 4 and I never bothered to try and catch up again.
2004 - House MD
Sherlock Holmes goes to med school and instead of solving crimes, he solves impossible diagnostics.
Gotta give it to Hugh Laurie for beeing a lovable a-hole the whole time.
It did lasted too long for me, I didn't watch the final seasons but I did watched a few mixed up episodes in cable so I kinda know what happens after, lets say... season 4? (the final one I've watched, maybe).
2004 - CSI New York
Same as the others. Just watched for Gary Sinise and Edward Furlong's guest appearence.
2004 - Miss Marple
I was never a fan of Miss Marple in writting... but on TV she is less annoying.
How come she is never suspicious? She's always around when a crime happens!
2005 - Invasion
Does anybody else remembers this TV show set after the Katrina hurricane that, apparently, also uncovered a race of aliens living underwater that have a body-snatching way of taking over the world? It's only 1 season, got cancelled I believe and I watched it on TV at 6 or 7 AM while getting ready to go to school. Ah, old times!
2005 - Mosca & Smith (Argentina)
(Mosca can be translated as "Fly" -the bug- but in this case is the character's Last Name so I'll leave it as it is)
Buddy cop with two overly eccentric characters. A silly comedy with some really in-depth meta humor of argentinean justice system. Some jokes are in poor taste... and I think it got raunchier in it's second season (I didn't watched it because one of the leads was replaced and the 2nd actor didn't had the same punch)
2005 - Bones
A forensic anthropologyst helps the FBI to solve crimes.
This is the BrainTM taken to an extreme. Dr. Temperance Brennan just can't be good at eeeeeverything. This kinda changed as seasons passed but still... who says smart people is always entirely clueless about how to be a normal human? And why so egocentric? (Most truly smart people are usually super-humble because they know that there is a lot more to learn).
In any case, it is fun. Watched on TV (earlier seasons) and continued on bootleg DVD.
2006 - Ugly Betty
The main reason why I didn't listed Betty, la fea in here it's because it is a telenovela (soap opera) everybody in Latinoamérica watched it. Some things are not so good (maybe I'll write about it one day) but overall it had a good story.
Those dubious things got changed in the U.S version... and it changed the whole story. It was easier to create something new than trying to bring people on board using a name that is well beloved to a certain ethnicity... just saying.
2007 - El Hombre que volvió de la muerte (The man that came back from Death -Argentina)
Think of a mash up of The Count of Montecristo and V for Vendetta.
It was a remake of a TV show done in the 60s... 70s? By Narciso Ibañez Menta, a Spanish actor that was naturalized as argentinean and was our very own mix of Boris Karloff (with his love for make up) and Vincent Price (he did a lot of Edgan Allan Poe stories as well). The original story was about Elmer Van Hess, who was subject to different experiments. The lab caughts on fire, he's inside and survives. For whatever reason his organs end up being given to other people so he embarks on a quest to retrieve them.
The remake also had Elmer Van Hess who was a happy fool about to get married, his boss and associates set him up and ends up in prision for fraud. Not happy with that, his boss strikes a deal with a Doctor so Elmer can be his human guinea pig (in order to do so, he asks other inmates to torture him while in prision so his only escape would be to go with the Doctor). He's experimented on as results he gets superhuman strenght and, of course, the chemicals affect his brain turning him into a very dark and blood-lust creature. The lab is set on fire, everybody thinks he died but he comes back 10 years later ready to take revenge on all of them. He was very cruel and his idea of revenge was very Saw-like... but deep down he's still in love with his almost-wife and she's the only one that can sort of ease him in the worst moments.
For an argentinean fiction it was very good.
2008 - Fringe
The X Files but even crazier? You got it.
Mom and I did got lost after season 4... but we still have the bootleg DVDs, it's just that we should start all over again and we don't have a lot of time 😝
2008 - The Mentalist
A guy is so good at reading people that decides to ripp them off saying that he's a medium. He got the wrong guy, this guy kills his family so now it's personal!
Patrick Jane's quirks might be amusing in the early episodes but after a while you, just like everyone else on the show, will want to punch him in the face.
From my little corner of the Earth I scream: Justice for Cho!! He also deserved a happy ending!
2009 - Doll House
A bunch of people got their memories wiped and now they receive other memories (fabricated sometimes) to take on dangerous tasks.
Dubious consent galore... but overall the premise was engaging. It lasted 3 seasons, the third one included a time-jump... the end didn't quite landed for me but... meh! It's entertaining at least.
2009 - Flashfoward
The entire world fainted at the same time. Everybody had visions of the future... so now some things need to be prevented for whatever reason.
Only one season, got cancelled. I don't remember a thing except the tribute to one of Jorge Luis Borges stories (El Jardín de los senderos que se bifurcan/ The garden of paths that bifurcate) and another to David Bowie's song Scary Monsters and Super Creeps. That's all I remember, I swear.
2009 - Modern Family
Sitcom that broke some barriers on what a typical family looks like. It's fun...but yeah, it also bored me.
Note to everybody: not all latinos sound like Sofía Vergara... not even Sofía Vergara sounds like Sofía Vergara the whole time.

Davy Lyons presents: "One To One"
Davy Lyons' brand new single and video. It's the latest single taken from his highly acclaimed second album, 'The Human Factor'
Accompanying the release is a mesmerising videoclip directed by María Lorente Becerra, which promises to be a visual masterpiece in its own right. Set against the backdrop of Barcelona and the picturesque Delta del Ebro, the 'One to One' video features Lyons himself alongside actress Marta Rodrigo Díaz. Lyons previously showcased his acting talents in Adrià Pagès Molina's feature film "Solo Arrojaron,” released this year. 'One to One' is a soul-stirring ballad that explores the intricacies of various relationships - be it with a friend, a lover, a deity, or oneself. Its poignant lyrics and evocative melody create an emotional resonance that lingers long after the song ends.
youtube
In the video, viewers are introduced to two enigmatic characters, simply referred to as Him and Her. Despite being strangers, they share an inexplicable connection, as if tethered by invisible threads. Their parallel lives unfold simultaneously on screen, revealing shared desires and shared sorrows. As the narrative unfolds, it becomes evident that these two characters are intertwined in ways they cannot comprehend. There's a palpable sense of yearning and mutual dependence that transcends rationality. Ultimately, as the song reaches its crescendo, Him and Her fade into the ether, leaving behind a sense of wistful melancholy. Yet the vibrant landscapes of Barcelona and the bustling cityscape endure, unchanged by the ephemeral presence of these spectral figures.
DAVY LYONS BIO:
Davy Lyons is an Irish songwriter, musician, poet, and actor. Family gatherings in his childhood, where music was always vital, are the root of his creative endeavours. His first dream was to become a professional footballer. Having completed a First-Class Honours Masters degree in law at University College Dublin, Lyons abandoned the gavel for the guitar and began a spiritual journey across Europe that brought him to live and make wine in a Tuscan castle and stay for four months in the mythic Parisian bookshop, Shakespeare and Company, which has welcomed wandering writers such as Allen Ginsberg, James Baldwin, and Anaïs Nin.
Having lived in a camper van called Roger with three bearded artists for three sweaty months, he hitchhiked from Paris to Barcelona and settled finally in the Catalan city known as The Rose of Fire. There he played on the street, testing new songs and dodging the police. Busking brought him friends, money, and an understanding of how a good song is able to stand on its own, in its purest form, with guitar and voice, or no guitar at all. It was not all pleasant though, while busking he had eggs, water, and once a bag of shite thrown at him from balconies. You can’t please everybody.
In Barcelona, Lyons formed a band with some of the finest musicians in the city, and they began playing free folk, completely in the moment, with no song being the same from concert to concert. Their live shows developed a reputation as intense, binding, and unique experiences for the audience, an intimate journey where words and melodies come together, where silences are allowed to reverberate. Sound poems written with the fountain pen of Lyons’ soul with brushstrokes of folk, jazz, and gypsy added by the band.
In Angel Sound Studio, they recorded “Evidence”, Lyons’ debut album, produced by Arthur Jeffes, frontman of Penguin Cafe. The album was released in 2019 with Catalan label Delirics, and was launched with sold-out shows in Barcelona, and in his hometown, Wexford, the sunny south-east of Ireland. Catalan music magazine, Enderrock, said: Evidence is ten songs made for introspective people, those who wish to scratch inside without fear of finding deep sadness or divine beauty. The best of the album is how silence breathes.
The following year he began recording demos with Irish producer, David Duffy, in his home studio next to the Hare Krishna temple in Barcelona’s gothic quarter. Those demos form the basis of Lyons’ second record, “The Human Factor”, recorded in Vertigo Studios in Llinars del Vallès, and to be released in Feb 2022 with Dutch label, King Forward Records. Lyons bonded with label founder, Frank Bond, over an eel sandwich while on tour in the Netherlands. The album represents lyrical and musical growth for an artist who always submits himself to the hammer and anvil of metre and rhyme.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Lyons has just finished shooting for a feature-length Catalan-produced movie, where he plays the lead role in a story of friendship and grief. For the release of his first book, he is currently compiling a selection of poetry and prose sent over the last four years as part of the newsletters delivered every Sunday for his Patreon.
He is influenced by artists such as Jacques Brel, Francis Bacon, Nina Simone, John McGahern, Mick Mulcahy, Kae Tempest, and The Pecker Dunne.

Hello, I'm animapunkocchidipeterpan (literally "punk soul, eyes of Peter Pan") 🩵
I took my nickname by a verse of the song "La Storia Infinita" by Pinguini Tattici Nucleari, my favourite Italian boy band.
there's no much to say about me... I'm from Italy, I'm in my mid 20s, my favourite colour is sky-blue, I'm learning guitar on my own, I'm really into music and I like every genre, I listen to Pinguini Tattici Nucleari and Harry Styles the most. I love Disney - Disney/Pixar movies, Un Professore, Glee and Friends are my favorite TV shows🌷
I love the Sanremo Music Festival, a famous music festival which takes part every year in Italy. The 72nd Festival of 2022 and the 74th Festival of this year (2024) have been my favourite festivals of all the times, because of the camaraderie, cohesion and mutual respect and support among all the artists: they were such one big colorful group ❤️🫶 I found out that there are other people who agree with me and that makes me feel less alone ❤️🩹
I'm in love with Ghali and Rich (Rich Ciolino, Ghali's new best friend: an extraterrestrial who landed in Italy (precisely in Naples) this January to discover our planet starting from there, and who accompanied Ghali during his adventure on the Sanremo Music Festival and helped him share messages of peace, like when he whispered in Ghali's ear "STOP AL G3NOC1D1O!"), especially Rich because he's too cute and tender, and their friendship is authentic, genuine and makes me smile 🥰🫶 and I think I am the only Ghalich supporter on this planet 😅 (and sometimes I wonder: if Ghali and Rich read what I write about them, would they appreciate or would I be in a lot of trouble? 😰)
yes, I've been writing about them in private, fantasizing about their friendship, asking what great adventures could they live together, as long as Rich is going to stay here on planet Earth... always being careful not to offend nor hurt them 🩵 then I thought to share what I write on AO3
I write but I don't like to read what I've just written because I know I would soon change my mind and delete everything... I'm open to constructive criticism but please don't be rude because I'm very sensitive 😞
I use lots of emojis because I'm afraid I seem cold writing from behind a keyboard 😅
I also support Ghali and Rich by making videos for them by using photos and videoclips of them I find on Instagram and by making fan arts by using AI (Bing Create / DALL•E 3) because I'm really bad at drawing 😅
"Proud to be a Ghalich supporter" is my slogan because, although I am the only one (I searched around), I'm proud of it 🩷🛸

Song review: Durare (2023)
Laura has released officially her first single Durare / Durar from her new album Anime Paralele / Almas Paralelas (coming out on Oct. 27)!
Promo (2023)
Of course we do have the two new songs Un Buon Inizio / Un Buen Inicio + Il Primo Passo Sulla Luna released previously which will also be part of the new upcoming album.
Laura's latest album Fatti Sentire / Hazte Sentir came out in 2018 so this means the longest time LP fans have been without any new material. However, during these years fans have been able to enjoy the success of Io Sí (Seen) and the docu-film on Amazon Prime featuring Scatola / Caja meanwhile. We've also seen Laura co-hosting Eurovision Song Contest and Latin Grammy's in 2022. She's made herself useful so to say.
Laura singing Io Sí (Seen) at the Oscars 2021 with Diane Warren.
Durare is the much needed ballad single from the new album. Music type that Laura is the best known. The song was written with Edwyn Roberts and Paolo Antonacci + produced by Michelangelo and Paolo Carta (Laura's husband). So there's something new but also something old.
I'm reviewing mostly the Italian version here. The song begins with beautiful melody with a piano playing, the first chorus is building up gently while we reach the 30s of the song. "Choose me", she is begging us. Lyrics are beautiful and there's an urge to make them heard. Somehow this breaks a little of the ballad pattern that Laura has usually had in her songs.
youtube
Official lyric video for Durare.
More quitars join in when we reach the second verse. The melody, the sounds remain calming though. "Call me" she begs us. The lyric video (and official video also I believe, still unreleased) has been made in Sweden (Laura's second Nordic videoclip, after Incancellabile / Inolvidable in 96). The northern summer lake sceneries match the tone and theme of this song perfectly. I can definitely imagine myself walking through the Finnish forests while playing this one.
Second chorus doesn't reach the powers that I'd wish for though even though the singing and the words remain still meaningful and full of soul. I have a feeling that a lot of Pausiniani will be missing more powerful arrangements. However, Laura has a habit of adding the extra spice during the her live performance so I'm not super worried. The song lasts roughly a bit over 3 minutes and it's a decent length.
youtube
Official lyric video for Durar (Spanish version).
The song feels and sounds like a poem. There's an arty feeling in here. You can recognize Laura but still the new songwriters bring their own sounds to it. Edwyn Roberts of course is well known LP author from Simili / Similares (2015) and Fatti Sentire / Hazte Sentir (2018) already.
Laura tells about the song that it was written / recorded already two years ago and she knew instantly that here would be her next first single.
"This song tells about how it's still possible believe in love stories that want to build a path for life. To know, to want, to create and and understand but also to lose one's mind - always together. To find out how it's beautiful to share the destiny and last."
Personally this didn't tick all the boxes for me. Or not in the same way that Non É Detto or Io Sí did. But I have felt this way before about a LP song when it's being released and then in time the track has grown on me as the time goes by. Anything can happen at this point.
Laura in Sweden (2023).
What are your thoughts about Laura's new single Durare / Durar?

The raddest 30 years old in all myspace, Karen Fox (at it again)
Taken from Karen Fox's myspace, with some grammar modifications
Myspace profile picture, January 2009
Since I was a child I felt attracted by things most of the people hated or didn't understand, self educated by myself and the television, molested at school for not being part of a society I wasn't interested in, I became a lonely being, dedicating my time to my own interests, which became more day by day.
That's how I started to get into things like horror, sci-fi and romance films, or extravagant rock and reading comics, which later I did by myself creating my own stories and characters.
Leaving behind all stablished things like highschool, and following what I believed was right, I first dedicated my life to my interest in comics as a comic writer/drawer, and then towards Rock, a style in wich I felt confortable with clothes and make up, turning it into my lifestyle, and listening more seriously the music I already felt attracted as a child, like Glam Metal, New Romantic, Dark, Punk and Heavy Metal, I used some of these styles on my looks, first in a lonelly way, and then with a few friends, I was going to do it my way, do what I wanted, without carikg about what society's opinion was, I felt disgusted by the mayority of society.
I didn't study music, and without planning it I started to sing and write songs when I started to use a glam metal look in the year 1996 and named myself Karen Fox, after leaving behind the Heavy Metal look I was using, that's when I formed with a friend my first band called "Afrodita", which convined things like Glam Metal, Dark, New Wave and Punk. We created two songs, "Rubia Hermosa" and "Cara de Angel", after the end of this band I continued changing my looks, always in the Glam style, I did other musical projects which couldn't archieve anything, always giving the best I had and without studing music, to express myself, my ideas and feelings in the purest way, and because I did it all by myself, social opinion was not important, I only cared about what I liked and if someone felt interested on it, it was fine, and if not, it was also fine, others' problem, not mine.
In 1999, with the help of a friend, I recorded 3 songs as Karen Fox solo, those songs were the ones which later, in the new millenium, I would make videoclips of. Those songs were "Sueño Sensual" and "Action En California". And in the year 2008 the last song of Karen Fox solo project called "Y Tu No Me Ves".
Myspace profile picture, June 2009
In 2004 I formed with my friend Sada the duo Romantica, the firmest project I did, creating an album called "Glammagedon" with five songs: "Yaoi", "Lady Oscar", "Paris", "X-novia" and "Cara De Ángel" (Afrodita's cover), now with some influences from Japanese Glam or Visual Rock, using the ideas I always had as a child like ideologic romanticism, and the tragedy and failure of love in my life which was always by my side, in the songs!
I am not a musician, I'm not interested on recognition, nor making money with my art, I'm only interested on doing and being what I want!!
(nice way of his to tell us he quited highschool and still lives with his parents)

Acording to TV Tropes the 1960 Roger Corman movie was the first version to get acused of being antissemetic until the actor for Mr Mushnik, Mel Welles, camed in the movies defense and sayed that the over the top yiddish accent his character employed were his insertion, not an idea of the gentile writers and directors.
Years ago, there was the Youtube video focusing on Mel Brooks The Producers that mentioned is not rare that drama and satire comedy made by jewish artists to present flawed yet simpathetic members of the jewish comunity along with sometimes denouncing antissemitism frequently gets used against the jewish community by antissemetic gentiles.
In the case of dramas, the song "Tomorrow Belongs to Me" from Cabaret, a musical that has the point of criticizing complacency in the rise of Nazism, is adopted by neonazis as a serious anthem.
American History X, a movie made by a jewish director to denounce the cruelty of skin heads, has become a favorite movie of skin heads because of the camera that frequently frames the neonazi iconography and the muscled body of Edward Norton's neonazi character in a way reminiscent of videoclips, make them look "cool and glamourized".
Mel Brooks, a jewish director and actor known for his edgy and raunchy comedy, is used by biggoted people to justify making punch down jokes with no limits, when in fact Mel Brooks always believed comedy has limits he shouldn’t dare to cross.
One of the creators of quintessential shock value adult cartoon South Park is jewish, and due to along with his colleague having the tought that "comedy should have no boundaries and people shouldn’t be so sensitive" he careless made the most popular character in the show the viciously antissemetic Eric Cartman, wich while not exactly creating modern casual antissemitism, it sure contributed to the difficulty of stoping it.
And the musical Little Shop of Horrors can suffer from a similar misapropriation: the original creators were mostly jewish presenting three jewish main characters with both qualities and flaws, and while is in the Mel Brooks veio of humour and way more carefull in their aproach of representation than the edgelord writers of something like South Park, still runs the risk of being used by antissemites to justify their bigotted biases.
Even members of ones own comunity can internalize stereotypes, and the attempts of parodying and satirizing it can backfire.
I remember reading Art Spiegelman's Maus, and in one chapter he asks to his wife how he will present his father, Auschwitz survivour Vladek Spiegelman, in the book.
He intends (and manages) to present his father as a "warts and all" character, with one of the man's flaws being that he is a miser when it comes to money.
Art is afrayed to make his father look like the "Greedy Jew" charicature, while his wife Françoise says that Vladek is a miser individual and that if he wants to present his father as a real human being, he can't hide this flaw because of fear of what biggots will take from the book.
Little Shop will probably be a Rorshach test to audience members: if an audience member leaves thinking "Wow, those are interesting complicated characters who happen to live a jewish american diaspora experience of poverty and desire for the american dream of economic extability and to be seen as normal", than that is a viewer who got the point right. If an audience members leaves thinking "Those greedy jews got what they deserved when that plant ate them", that is a person you must run away from!
So I just read a post (not reblogging, because it’s long) arguing that Little Shop of Horrors is antisemitic. Long story short: Seymour is obviously coded as Jewish and ends up being corrupted by greed. Mr. Mushnik is a blatantly stereotypical New York Jew whose defining traits are greed and complaining. The fact that their greed leads to people being eaten arguably evokes the blood libel myth. Even Audrey II itself arguably has some Jewish coding, since it occasionally spouts Yiddish phrases. (I disagree with that one though. The plant is more obviously coded as black – which of course is just as problematic.)
I never thought of it that way before. I doubt these implications were intentional, at least not in the musical. Alan Menken himself is Jewish and I’m almost positive Howard Ashman was too – The fact that he’s buried in a cemetery called Oheb Shalom seems to imply as much. Still, I’m glad someone pointed them out; it probably won’t keep me personally from enjoying the show, but I realize now that I shouldn’t recommend it to certain people I know without reservation. It might not feel good to realize that my faves are problematic, but since I want to constantly become a more sensitive person, I appreciate it.

Panel layout and visual composition: part 2
PART 1
One tricky thing with mediums such as comics and literature, is that you can’t manipulate the passing of time like you can in audiovisual mediums. So in moments where slow motion would be used in film to do just that, you’ll here have to find other methods to achieve the same effect. There are many such techniques. For example: a common trick in writing is to use a series of short sentences to convey a feeling of urgency and haste. Just like this, comics often use composition and panel layout to achieve something similar.
Disclaimer yet again: I’m not trying to «fix» the manhua or presenting an «improved version». I do this for practice. I also think the artist is genuinely skilled, and that anybody who’s able to produce consistent, good-quality illustrations at such a rapid pace should be feared. This is also why I decided to not make suggestion layouts this time, and instead tweak the illustrations themselves.
Motion lines, my beloathed.
The presence of motion lines isn’t an exclusively bad thing obviously. Like everything else it’s a visual tool we use to create an illusion of either speed, intensity or something different depending on how it’s used. It is, however, extremely easy to misuse. If I were to say what I think the nr. 1 flaw of the manhua is, it would be how often motion lines are defaulted to, sometimes to the detriment of the composition. I think that is the case here.
So let’s look at Wei Wuxian falling from a tree.
and the catch.
Here, motion lines are used in every single panel. What happens is a rapid-fire, staccato effect similar to the series of short sentences in writing. Additionally, the motion lines in the third and last two panels gives it a very dramatic feel. There are two possible intentions I can think of in this case: The above effect could be intentional, and it’s supposed to feel a bit dramatic in the sense that Lan Wangji has to rush to catch him. In that case it worked, though I believe cutting away the fifth panel would’ve been better for the overall effect (and I’ll get back to why later). The number of panels does have the unfortunate effect of extending the urgent moment beyond its necessity, essentially pulling us out of the emotional state we had when Wei Wuxian looked down at Lan Wangji from the tree. We’re then brought back in again with the embrace. It’s a back-and-forth that, in my personal opinion, is a bit too close to a jarring rollercoaster ride.
The second intention that I can think of, is that the amount of panels and use of negative space are there because the artist wanted the moment to extend as if in slow-motion. That intention doesn’t follow through into the final work, so I’m not sure how likely that is. Instead of lingering, we’re moving quickly through several snapshots of one scene. The impression I get is a bit like this videoclip here (cw. flashing images) (obviously I’m exaggerating).
Now, let’s say we want to achieve a slow-motion effect for Wei Wuxian’s fall. How do we go about that? Let’s look at a successful example and see how and why it works.
The manga «our dreams at dusk» is often praised not only for its exploration on what living in Japan as a queer person is like, but also because of its amazing visual presentation. Here’s a page of a character «falling in slow motion».
(From «Our Dreams at Dusk» chapter 1)
In this page, Somebody (the character) looks as if suspended midair, and part of the reason is the layout. The first panel takes up half the page, catching our attention and causing us to spend more time looking at it. The three panels to the side are arranged in such a way that as we read them, the panel with Somebody is still in our peripheral vision. It extends the time Somebody’s in the air as we read, causing a slow-motion like effect. Note how the lack of motion lines makes it look like a snapshot of a moment, yet the dynamic pose and weightlessness of the hair creates a feeling of motion in stillness.
I think this chapter could have done something similar. Say the panel with Wei Wuxian falling from the tree takes up most of the page. We could add small panels with details that overlap the edge of the larger one, like a close-up of Lan Wangji’s foot moving forward in the bottom corner. Like above, the fall being in the background as we look at the smaller ones extends Wei Wuxian’s perceived time in the air. A webcomic artist who often use smaller panels to «frame» bigger ones is Minna Sundberg, here’s an example:
(From «Stand Still Stay Silent» chapter 16)
The large panel is the central action, the before/after depicted in the smaller panels are all tied to it, since the central action is what cause the other actions to happen. The overlapping panels makes this clearer, as they’re directly connected.
Falling for you, but strategically
That «motion in stillness» quality I talked about is one the «catch» panel could potentially have if it didn’t have the motion lines. Without those, the way this panel leads the eye is actually quite good. As we move down the page our eyes first hit the top of the panel, and the first thing we see is the end of Wei Wuxian’s ponytail. Following the line of it we end on Lan Wangji catching Wei Wuxian. Our gaze essentially «falls» from above and «lands» in Lan Wangji’s arms (if we want to be poetic about it). When motion lines are used in a radial shape like this, our attention is brought to whatever is at its center. What that does here, is causing our attention to «snap» towards the hug. The effect of the composition is weakened by the motion lines. (Oh motion lines. My beloathed)
Because of this I opted to do a quick edit this time, to show how small elements make big changes. The first thing I did was edit out the motion lines in the above panel. I then placed the panel of Lan Wangi extending his arms before this one, removing the one between these two. Another neat trick I wanted to test out, is one where we again use the negative space to extend the «fall» in the final panel. I made the ribbon longer, so that it goes beyond the panel border. Of course it isn’t really that long, but we can allow ourselves many inaccuracies in the name of artistic liberty.
Here’s how that looks:
The top panel looks quite dynamic, and while motion lines are (again) one reason for that, the diagonal line of action coupled with the side-profile enhance it. To use my friend’s words: side profile indicates that compositionally, the person can theoretically move back-and-forth. Thus it often carries more urgency and/or suddeness.
Diagonal lines carve interesting and dynamic directions through the picture, and using an X-composition creates dynamic conflict between those opposing directions. If you look at the page from «Stand Still Stay Silent» you may notice it’s used there. The line of action for the monster goes from top-left to bottom-right, while the lines on the ground go from bottom-left to top-right. The characters are placed where those lines intersect, drawing your eyes there. One can also say there’s a diagonal cross in the top panel. For those of us who reads left to right, our eyes will naturally follow that direction as we look at images. Lan Wangji’s line of action goes opposite to this. There’s also the trees in the background being slightly tiltet to the left.
Moving on, the reason I chose to remove the panel between those two is because evenly spaced out snapshots of a fast-paced moment can work against the flow of the action. It’s similar to animation in a sense.
The distribution of the frames gives an illusion of acceleration. The opposite gives an illusion of slowing down. When we have a panel of Wei Wuxian right before he lands in Lan Wangji’s arms, it gives that slowing-down impression. However, his fall doesn’t halt before Lan Wangji catches him; it’s continuously accelerating. The presence of the «right before» panel creates this odd pause, and is in my opinion unnecessary. In the case where we remove said panel, the use of dynamic motion in the top panel and «motion in stillness» in the bottom panel conveys how the action plays out: Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji are in motion as they rush towards one another, and when he’s catched that momentum stops. It’s subtle but effective.
And that’s my thoughts on the «falling/catching» panels. I do have my thoughts on those following as well, but I think this is a good place to wrap up. Maybe another time.

Déjà Vu - Vinnie Hacker
Sooooo, I feel like this wasn't my best piece but I hope you still like it. I love Olivia Rodrigo 👀 I just can’t imagine Vinnie breaking someone’s hearts tbh, he looks way to sweet
Warning : None
Word Count : 1.2k
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Today was an important day for you and your career. Your debut single Déjà vu was coming out and you couldn’t stop yourself from being excited but nervous at the same time. Having been doing covers of your favorite songs on social media for the last 2 years, fans wouldn’t stop asking you when your own music would come out. Today was the day they would hear your ideas for the first time in what seems like forever. You had posted little bits of some compositions you had made but never did you post a clip over 15 seconds long, let alone a full song.
You had been recording a lot in the past few weeks and when you presented the lyrics to Déjà vu to the producers, they fell in love with it. In all honesty you didn’t think it would be one of their favorites since it was sad and angry. You had written these lyrics a while back when you and your now boyfriend were apart. You and Vinnie had been good friends since the moment you had met. Being two growing TikToker, you found yourself hanging in the same places with the same group of friends.
Your relationship was complicated to say the least, you both knew you had feelings for each other, but he wasn’t ready to be in a relationship at the time and you were afraid to get into one as well. It didn’t stop the both of you of doing everything together, you were inseparable. From sharing one spoon to eat your favorite strawberry ice cream, to sharing clothes, you did everything a couple would do. All went crashing down the day you went on a trip with your best friends, a bunch of pictures of Vinnie and a blonde girl holding hand and sharing ice cream, laughing, came flooding the internet. You couldn’t believe what you were seeing, the guy you liked, the guy you thought liked you too was with another women having the time of his life not even giving the time of day.
A few days after you came back from your trip, Vinnie had texted you, but you had decided to ignore him, staying in your room writing down into your notebook. That’s how the lyrics for your new song were created.
After that, things got awkward between the two of you, both of you having the same friend group, hanging out wasn’t easy. He would often bring his new friend with him and the situation made you uncomfortable and sad. They would share moments together, moment you first had with Vinnie, moments you thought belong to the two of you. The girl even posted pictures of places Vinnie would bring her to, places you showed him first.
A few months past and the two of them broke up, leaving the majority of your friends and yourself happy. Soon enough, Thomas invited you to move into the Hype House and you did. You and Vinnie got back to talking frequently and he one day asked you to lunch which you agreed to. You decided to give him a second chance and soon enough he asked you to be his girlfriend. Everyone had been talking about your relationship, approving of your love. The fans were mostly happy, some of them were mad that Vinnie found a new girlfriend, but for the most part, everyone was supportive.
Four weeks later, here you were, all sitting in the backyard waiting for the show to start. Your roommates had decided to surprise you with a nice diner, and they had set up an outdoor projection screen for the release of your debut single. Vinnie had his arms wrapped around you as the both of you sat down on a huge bean bag next to the others. You were all laughing and talking when the voice of the presenter got your attention.
“She’s been getting more and more popular over the past two years and fans had been waiting for her to drop her own music. From singing covers of her favorite songs on the internet to now coming out with her own song, this artist is destinate to a great career. We had the pleasure of getting the exclusivity of her debut single and videoclip, here is Déjà vu by (Y/F/N)”
The screen changed quickly, your face appearing as you licked some ice cream in a convertible. You had told Vinnie about the song a few weeks prior since it was about him. You could feel his arm tightened around you as he kissed your temple
“I’m so proud of you baby” he whispered so only you could hear. You smiled feeling the tears well up in your eyes, realizing how far you’ve come. It wasn’t always easy, but you were doing what you loved with the people who you cherished most. Once the videoclip ended, everyone was clapping making you laugh slightly as tears poured out your eyes.
“OMG! This song is so good (Y/N)” Kouvr said smiling widely as you turned towards her, seeing Alex filming.
“It is, and the video is great” Thomas continued
“Thank you, guys! You’re too kind, you’ve been supporting me from the beginning, and I couldn’t thank you enough for that” you said wiping your tears, looking at them.
“I could never do what you do, you’re so creative, where do you get all your inspiration from? Like for this song, I didn’t know you had all these emotions built up” Mia said, questioning you. You felt yourself tense up as Vinnie rubbed your arms softly.
“It was from an old relationship, all is good now” you shrugged, trying to avoid the question
“Well, this guy seems like he made a big mistake, who would do this to you?” Michael said trying to light up the mood
“Actually, it was me” Vinnie spoke as everyone looked at him with big eyes, including you.
“I’m sorry. What?” Kouvr was the first one to speak
“I was a dick to her two years ago, and I know I broke her hearth. I still regret it to this day and I’m sorry about everything” Vinnie stated now looking at you deeply
“I decided to forgive you and give you another chance and look where that has gotten us. I was scared at first, because of what had happened, but you proved me wrong. You showed me that you’ve changed and that you weren’t that guy anymore. You make me feel so special and I feel so lucky to have you”
“I love you baby, and I’m so proud of you” he said before kissing you tenderly, his tongue finding your bottom lip, making you smile slightly against his mouth
“Okay guys, get a room” Alex said, pushing Vinnie slightly
“We’ll gladly do that” he stood up, offering you his hand to help you do the same
“Stop” you said swatting his chest softly, laughing “Thank you guys so much for this perfect evening, I couldn’t wish for better friends”
“We love you (Y/N)” Mia said bringing you into a tight hug “And you” she said pointing at your boyfriend “If you break her hearth, I’ll have to kill you”
“Don’t worry, I won’t make this mistake a second time”
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks for reading
Hope you liked it, let me know what you think

The importance of live shows for Twenty One Pilots’ music
As I explained in my last post their style in term of sounds and lyrics, I will now talk about the importance of live shows as a new way to listen to them.
Twenty One Pilots is a band composed only by two men : Tyler who is the singer and plays also the piano and the bass and Josh who plays the drums. As they knew, a rock-alternative band with only two people on stage is a challenge : they have to put on a show. This band will construct their live shows based on the way they merge with the public and how they create their own aesthetics through their videoclips.
Firstly, the band is very close to their public. They express this close relationship by giving them nickname such as « the skeleton clique » which will be adopted as the name of the fan base by the fans for exemple. This is also expressed by how they are giving themselves to the crowd : at several moment in the show, they will go in the pit. Tyler is often seen crowdsurfing the pit or being held and lift up by the people at the beginning of it, above them, to rap or sing songs such as "Holding Onto You" (see how they make the link between their song and the public in that moment). Josh is not put aside, as a mini drum kit will also be held by the people as Josh will drum above them. Some lucky clique members could even go on stage on one of their tours and could do the famous handshake seen in the Stressed Out videoclip. Also, the two men do meet and greet at the beginning or end or every shows which is a thing that has not changed over the years and popularity. So my first conclusion is that you can have a chance, as a fan, to interact with them verbally or physically. They are accessible artists and they show that during live shows which is a way also of promoting themselves and their music.
Secondly, the band will use the aesthetics of their clips or albums to construct their live shows. Each Twenty One Pilots’ album as an aesthetic but it became clear with their 4th album Blurryface. Tyler will be seen in their videoclips and so later live with black paint around his neck and hands ans often with a red bennie. As for Josh, with red make up around his eyes and a red cap. Since nearly the beginning of their careers, they open their shows with ski masks on (which is a thing that they did first in their videoclips with for exemple "Guns For Hands"). This concept has grown to be very popular among the fan base. They are using in a clever way references front their videoclips to make the fans commit and relate to what they are doing on stage by reproducing their codes (you are lost if you have not seen the clips !). At every shows, you will see fan imitating them and adopt a certain dress code according to the era.
Finally, for my case, I discovered them with the clip Car Radio (see below and skip to 2:30 if interested) and I imagined directly that I could be in that crowd, in their live show, and that must be a life changing experience. It is not only listening to music, it is to feel free while listening to it. And it is exactly the impression that they wanted to convey through it. Once again, what a clever way to bring people into their world and music through their mediation. (and also the mediation of their live shows as you can find them easily on their youtube channel).
youtube
here’s some photographs from my own experiences which we really life changing (they were the firsts artists that I have seen live and thanks to them, I’m now ruined as I keep buying concert tickets for every artists that I like)

Brazilian/Dutch Death Metal Unit CRYPTA Announces Debut Album, Echoes of the Soul!
Just recently signed with Napalm Records, CRYPTA offer a raging sonic monster in a class of its own: the newly staffed Brazilian/Dutch death metal unit is set to drop jaws with their long-awaited debut offering, Echoes of the Soul, to be released on June 11, 2021 via Napalm Records. Formed in June 2019, the four-piece line up consists of vocalist and bassist Fernanda Lira and Luana Dametto on drums (both former members thrash metal frontrunners NERVOSA), plus supremely talented guitarists Sonia Anubis (Cobra Spell, Ex-Burning Witches) and Tainá Bergamaschi (Ex-Hagbard). They enforce a heightened level of potency and experience from their successful past and current projects, enhancing influences from both classic and modern death metal genres, plus significant extreme and black metal elements, to create a sound of their own. Positioned right at the burning gates of death metal salvation, their first single and music video, "From The Ashes", already showcases the demonic, captivating power of the hard-hitting combo.
Singer and bassist Fernanda Lira says about the first single: "The song is basically about the well-known tale of the phoenix, but in a more philosophical sense. It talks about the ever-changing cycles of life, about the many endings and beginnings we have to go through, about how many old versions of ourselves need to figuratively die in order for us to keep growing and evolving as human beings, and finally, about building resilience to endure all these rebirths."
The first audiovisual work immediately takes the viewer into the funeral spectra of CRYPTA’s universe and also reveals full commitment on a cinematographic level. The track itself is an infernal omen of the album's sinister stories and already presents a first spark of their impressive interplay: Lira’s forceful vocals, Anubis and Bergamaschi’s bold axe attacks and Dametto’s prominent sophisticated drumming summon the phoenix to rise from the ashes - with the last crackle of this debut full-length conjuring screams for more.
André Gustavo, movie director at O2 Filmes, states: "I believe the song perfectly matches the current moment we're living, during which all humanity needs to reinvent itself and be reborn 'From The Ashes'. The videoclip preparation itself can also be translated through it: building up such a big production during this terrible moment we're living was a big challenge to all of us. I believe, for all of that, from the creative and cinematographic perspective, we had a great final outcome for the video".

Kenshi Yonezu - Between Pop and Drawings
Here I am with the third part of August’s themed week in “Focusing on”! Today’s subject is a Japanese pop artist, who breaks the canon of the genre with simpleness and energy. We’re talking about Kenshi Yonezu, born on 10th March 1991 in the rural area of Tokushima. His first approach to music occurred on 2006, when he created a band with a friend of his, named Late Rabbit Edda, which didn’t get much success. Then, between 2008 and 2009, he started to release Vocaloid tracks on Nico Nico Douga under the stage name Hachi and sometime later he moved to Osaka, where he published other Vocaloid tracks, which became quite popular. On 2009 he officially appeared in a Exit Tunes compilation and in other Vocaloid compilations, boosting his popularity even more, arriving to release two albums of his own, Hanataba to suisou (Bouquets and sea burials) and Official Orange. On 2011 he officially debuted in a major laber as Kenshi Yonezu and since then he built up the concept we got to know, mainly artistic and naturalistic, as he is also a drawer, whose works, inspired by Edward Gorey’s art, are featured in his videoclips and release covers. His genre is an alternative pop-rock, pretty unusual for the canon, where there’s an alternance between upbeat and nostalgical themes, with each song cured by Kenshi himself, in each aspect. His official debut occurred on May 2012, with the release of the first major album Diorama (reviewed here).
One of the lead-tracks, named Go go yuureisen (Go go ghost ship), sees an extremely positive sound, articulated by good electronic notes and charismatic vocals; the song is about the beginning of a revolution, synonym of a new chapter of Kenshi’s musical path. It has been followed by the singles Santa Maria and Mad Head Love/Popping Apathy, the second album Yankee (reviewed here) and the single Flowerwall.
The title-track has clearer notes, building up an upbeat melody, with a relevant rhythm and Kenshi’s light vocals; the song is about trying to live in happiness and harmony. It has been followed by the single Unbelievers, the third album Bremen and the single Loser/Number Nine.
The first title-track mixes pretty well rock and dance pop, in a catchy sound, driven by energetic vocals and a positive melody; the song is about the bad luck and the defeat in everyday life. It has been followed by the singles Orion and Peace Sign, the fourth album Bootleg and the single Lemon.
The title-track, featured as theme for the tv series Unnatural, has an intense atmosphere and a nice rock vibe, provided by a good melody and well kept up by Kenshi’s mature vocals (the videoclip has over 600 million views, making it the most viewed musical video in Japan); the song is about loving the life with someone else, even in bad moments. It has been followed by the singles Suna no wakusei (Sand planet), made in duet with Hatsune Miku, Flamingo/Teenage Riot, Umi no yuurei (Spirits of the sea), Uma to shika (Horse and deer) and Paprika.
The Japanese pop scene is incredibly wide and features a lot of acts, some better than others, but mostly calibrated in a certain common direction musically talking. Kenshi Yonezu has been able to subvert any expectation, since he came from the Vocaloid scene and brought a new and refreshing way of doing pop music. Catchy and upbeat themes, alternated to experimentations and melancholic melodies, accompained by Kenshi’s versatile and suggestive vocals, singing really peculiar lyrics, made of nature and feelings; this is how his music can be summarized, redefining the way most people is watching at Japan in terms of music. The presence of his songs in anime themes, dramas and TV spots boosted more his popularity, reaching even oversea audience, thanks to a simpleness which hides something more complex and deeper than expected. Surely Kenshi’s works don’t go unnoticed and that’s a surprising thing, since he relies on mature concepts and a characteristic art behind each his composition, and recently he stepped the game with his newest work, the fifth album Stray Sheep, one of the most awaited releases of this Summer and a really good companion for these troubled times.
Who might enjoy: who is looking for an unusual and riveting pop artist, whose style goes between nature, emotions and nostalgia.
Recommended tracks (as Hachi): World’s End Umbrella, Rinne and Matoryoshka.
Recommended tracks (as Kenshi Yonezu): Go go yuureisen, Vivi, Santa Maria, Flowerwall, Peace Sign, Loser and Lemon.
That’s all folks! See you on the final part of August’s themed week in “Lyrical Love”!
Thanks for the reading!

On the 10th of May talented singer songwriter and pop artist Davy Lyons will be releasing 'One to One', the latest single taken from his highly acclaimed second album, 'The Human Factor'.
The video for 'One to One' is a testament to the directorial prowess of María Lorente Becerra, whose keen eye for detail and visual storytelling imbues every frame with depth and meaning. You can find the work of María Lorente Becerra here.

MEET KATJA LOHER
We caught up with award-winning video artist Katja Loher to talk about her artistic practice and the effects of COVID-19. Katja has lived and worked in New York for the past 15 years and is currently self-isolating in Colombia. Famous for her lush, multimedia dreamscapes known as “Videoplanets”, Katja’s work explores the interplay between humans and nature. Every work is deeply imbedded in collaboration, employing dancers, choreographers, and craftspeople to create the final product. Katja has received numerous awards as well as distinguished artist residencies and has been commissioned and exhibited internationally in numerous solo and group shows around the world.
Hi Katja, thank you for taking the time to talk to us, where are you right now?
I escaped New York on March 11 to the Colombian Páramo, an hour away from Bogotá. I’m staying on a farm at more than 11’000 feet above sea level with a microclimate. We renovated the farmhouse and installed our dream studio surrounded by stunningly beautiful nature and infused by the elements: Fire, earth, water, and wind. It’s been 6 weeks since we’ve been here, it feels like we’re floating on a cloud.

Tell us about your artistic practice, what are you currently working on?
Art as artifice, art as practice, art as experience.
I combine video with sculpture, architecture and nature to stimulate dreams, imagination and humor and inspire to look for answers from another viewpoint.
Right now I’m working on various commissions, where I infuse nature with choreographed dance from the bird’s eye view.
Beauty is omnipresent in my Video-sculptures, as the essence of life is to sustain processes supporting our planet. I address ecological urgencies such as the plight of flora and fauna with a focus on the pollinators, climate change, deforestation, pollution, and the changes in the ocean ecosystem.
Video: Katja Loher, “What happens to the swallow that are late for spring?” . Current Solo Show at @AnyaTishGallery in Houston. The exhibition is temporarily closed due to COVID-19.
Abstract choreographies reveal beautiful kaleidoscopic patterns constructed from dance formations. Ballerinas take on the form of small creatures in a multicolored game of perspective and scale that ennobles the existence of tiny beings. Performers intertwine to form letters, words and questions, while dancers dressed as animals mimic the somatic or sonar communication inherent in different species.
I adopt a bird’s eye view for each video to simulate the effect of looking through a microscope or a telescope. The symmetrical multiplication of moving bodies in constantly changing constellations produces a rhythmically pulsating collective. My dream-like yet apocalyptic tales suggest that “Saving the Planet” can only be achieved by joining forces in a collective.
Right now I’m finazling a series of works based on the Chinese Five Element Theory. The concept of this new series was created during the artist residency I completed last year with the House Collective’s Art Program in China.

The doctrine of the five phases describes two cycles: The generating or creative, and the overcoming or destructive cycle. Planet earth is a complex organism and if we humans interfere with it, the elements get out of balance and the cycle becomes destructive.

How has COVID-19 impacted your work/life?
Over the course of the last month I was supposed to go to Kolkata, Dubai, Zurich, Paris, Berlin, and Milan for exhibitions, art fairs, meetings and site visits.
The international art world has come to a stop for all of us and we are forced to pause and reflect.
For many artists the quarantine turns into an artist residency. I’m producing new works to bring to the world when we can move again.
My collaborators and I are embracing the creative process: Reflecting on concepts, designing installations and sculptures, recording videos in nature, making costumes, staging choreographies and other scenes, editing videos and composing sounds.
What important lessons can we learn from the pandemic?
Nature needed a break from us. The air is clean again, the waters are getting purified, many creatures are returning to their natural habitats.
Let’s BEE AWARE, take better care of Mother Earth, live sustainably and consume less.
Have you noticed that the word EARTH hosts the word ART in the center? Let’s not go back to normal. We are given the opportunity to create a new way of living together. One that fits all of humanity and nature.

What advice can you give to people stuck at home? Can you recommend something to read, watch or listen?
Daily practice is really important. It can be anything from yoga, meditation, walking, taking a bath, writing, singing, dancing… I do yoga and breathwork in the morning to start the day and meditate around sunset.
Guided meditations are a fantastic tool. Check out my friend’s platform: www.welcomeearth.tv Laughter is really important to stay sane. Can you call one of your friends for a good laugh every day?
Dreams have no boarders and no limits: Think of something you always wanted to do and manifest it, limitless within the limitations of today’s situation.

Here is a full translation of the interview with the FAZ:
Mr Waltz, statistically you're a rarity. Only five percent of all actors in Los Angeles manage to get enough jobs to get accepted into the SAG. And out of that group, only about five percent earn enough to make a living out of their art.
Becoming an actor is like becoming a father: really easy. Being and staying an actor is much harder.
We're meeting today, because you're not playing the villain for once, but some kind of action-hero in James Cameron's Manga movie "Alita: Battle Angel"
As a futuristic doctor you revive a cyborg from Mars, so you're basically working on the interface of human and machine
Haha, you could put it like that! I like that!
When the story was published as a comic in 1990 it was considered Science-fiction. Today, people like Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos actually work on brain implants and dream of colonies on Mars. Have you dealt with such things as preperation?
I don't take Elon Musk seriously. His behavior strikes me as ridiculous and you can't forget that he has a commercial interest in the topic's sensation. I've already watched moon landing's and flights into space as a child. Is it really necessary to introduce billionaires into space tourism? Well, we will see what happens. I am interested in new technologies but it's difficult to seperate them from journalism of sensation, even if it's dressed seriously.
In time, a lot of things might be possible that I can't even imagine right now. But there is another question: the question of necessity.
The market economy drives our world into an orgy of uselessness. It damages our planet and our lives on it. Who wants to live on Mars? That we will all be unemployed and the environment destroyed is in no relation to any use.
Can one stop the progress if it's useless?
Not as long as someone benefits from it.
What about the desire for disruption?
Disrupting something is an easy action, replacing it with something useful is not.
I'm always ready to disrupt something if there is a useful counterproposal. Not necessarily until then.
A lot of things are turned upside down in film industry. Netflix not only revolutionized the concept of television, it also produces exciting movies. And Youtube even has its own celebrities among the new generation.
Over the past few months I've watched some movies which hadn't been produced without Netlflix. For example the winner of the Venice Film Festival "Roma". Movies like that wouldn't run longer than 3 weeks in theaters. Through the premiers and prices it now receives the attention it deserves. And after that it's on Netflix. As superficial as I can see that, it's not the worst thing.
In contrast to that, I don't have a hard time with not watching Youtube. It's probably a cultural matter and depends on how we want to shape our lives. Of course it's also a generational matter. But why is that? Just because someone is younger, it doesn't mean they are predestined for entertainment through videoclips.
You have 4 children. You have to be familiar with this world. Where do you see the difference to your generation?
In school we were always confronted with things we didn't like, but which we couldn't dispose of.
That's where the wonderful word "Bildung" comes from, which doesn't exist in English. Education refers to an information value. "Bildung" goes further than education through its cultural formation. When I was in school I also didn't understand why I had to study Latin. But not wanting to learn Latin would have never occured to me. Just because no one speaks it anymore and learning it seemed uncomfortable.
And did you like it?
It created connections within a language, trained precise phrasing, as well as logic and discipline. It's certainly more challenging to learn an abstract language than watching a funny Youtube video.
About for or five years ago you warned Facebook might be a breeding ground for the fast growth of terror organisations. Are you surprised that it also seems to threaten western democracies now?
Not at all. History has taught us that medium and structure can be more dangerous than the message, because it's easier to handle the problematic movement than the well oiled machine that keeps it going. Especially when algorithms control the dynamics in the networks, those networks can become independent.
Some hope that societies might improve through a "Wutbürger"-culture and a crazy government.
At best, all of that just has entertainment value.
So maybe not anyone should always add their opinions?
If you don't have anything clever to say you should shut your mouth. But actually it's the other way around. Apart from this choir of stupidity being really annoying, people who haven't developed the resistance and sensors might fall for the noise. Whoever shouts the loudest ends up being heard.
You are known for keeping your private life private. How does that match marketing's and fan's expectations?
Fame is an unsolved problem, not only for me.
You either remain an anonymous observer without a bigger platform to present your realizations. That is an unfortunate paradox because the people who get the chance to move in public have to deal with growing fame while they also distance themselves from the influences and experiences of real life.
Studies have shown that introverts would handle most jobs better. But they tend to get cast out by the loudmouths.
I can imagine that. Self- and foreign perception are a tricky thing. I can remember the first Loveparades in Berlin which I saw on TV. I always avoided the event myself. In the interviews, people were saying things like: "We celebrate our individuality!" And there were one million people that all looked the same. The music was a monotonous bum-bum-bum and I always tried to spot a moment of individuality.
You've been living in the centre of individuality for a while now. Do you still consider the United States of America governable?
Maybe not as a federation. The question I'm interested in is whether the USA as a federation are still worthy of governance. California alone is the fifth largest economy in the world.
In an interview from 2003 you talked about posing, about film makers who eroticise themselves and about how to stand yourself
Oh God, I remember.
Are you currently able to stand yourself?
Sometimes. But it's not easy.
At that time you weren't a Hollywood star and you made yourself very clear in interviews.
"Schindler's list" is mendacious because Spielberg might have thought "that type of movie still lacks from my collection of movies about dinosaurs and UFOs
Or that Roberto Benigni's "Life is Beautiful" is "crap" because it communicates that it's alright to laugh about concentration camps. "when it's a tender laugh"
Do you still dare to say such things now that you constantly meet other Hollywood stars?
In Germany, yes. In America, no.
Do you believe it's better to become famous later in life? And does aging feel better when you're at least famous while you're aging?
Hopefully both, right? As a young man you often experience the world through tunnel vision, because you impatiently want to experience everything, even though you can't sort a lot of things right. If the attention hits you at that point in life, you get in danger of stirring towards a dead end where you don't develop well.
Do you believe you became more careful and more lenient over the years and success?
You're becoming more careful and more lenient. I never thought of that before. I thought: Now I suddenly step back a little. You become more lenient when you connect yourself to it. In a strict German way you could call it cowardice, because you gain another point of view, the insight. And apart from the experience and the success it might be due to the abrasion of the testosterone-related edges.
