Happy Birthday hauntedcllhouse!
@hauntedcllhouse As per your request, here's Victoria and your OC daughter Lily hanging out in the ocean together, discussing stockings and the wearing thereof. :p Hope you enjoy!
--
“I’m just saying, Mamma, if I don’t have to wear stockings, I don’t see why you do.”
“Because it’s what’s done,” Victoria said simply, shaking her head at her daughter as they floated together, bobbing in the gentle swell of the ocean tides. “A polite woman in society makes sure she is properly dressed for all occasions. And that includes a proper set of stockings.”
“Yes, but – Mamma, are we actually in society?” Lily pressed, spinning herself around with one hand to look Victoria in the eye. “You and Daddy never attend any of the parties that Grandmother Van Dort sends you invitations to, despite all her complaining. And you barely keep up any correspondence with the people Grandmother Everglot has introduced you to, despite all of her complaining. We spend most of our time at home in the village, keeping to ourselves and not entertaining anyone. Even on this trip, we’re not going to any balls or dances or dinners – we’re walking the promenade and going to museums and swimming.” She sent a little playful wave of water at her mother. “There’s no one to impress with your stockings!”
“I – we’ve attended a few luncheons,” Victoria said, though even she knew that wasn’t much of an argument. “Played a round of croquet with Lord and Lady Kingsleigh. And we have visitors at home from time to time. We’re not total shut-ins.”
“Still! We’re hardly hobnobbers,” Lily said, kicking her feet idly. A faintly-wicked grin crossed her face. “And besides, Mamma, all your dresses reach the floor. No one could possibly see if you decided not to wear stockings. Why, you could get away with not even wearing shoes!”
“I most certainly could not,” Victoria declared, laughing. “Everyone would be able to tell in a moment just from my footprints in the carpet!”
“Oh, let them see your footprints,” Lily said, tossing her head as she spun away from her again. “Feet aren’t evil, you know.” She wiggled her toes in Victoria’s general direction. “Just occasionally funny-looking.”
“Be that as it may, I don’t think anyone coming to tea at our house would appreciate knowing that I’d served them barefooted. It seems at least somewhat unhygienic.”
“Why? Are you making the tea with your feet?”
Victoria snorted, then shook her head and used her arm to paddle a little closer to her daughter. “Lily, I know you think some of the rules of society are silly,” she said gently. “And that you hate the idea of anybody being forced to do something they don’t wish to. But when it comes to wearing stockings, nobody is forcing me to do anything. I like wearing stockings. I don’t feel properly dressed without them on – depending on circumstances,” she added, looking down at her bathing suit. “And I don’t think I’d feel comfortable wandering about without them, even if nobody could actually see.” She pulled tugged her daughter close to plant a salty kiss on her forehead. “I promise I won’t ever make you wear them if you don’t want. But when it comes to me – well, I do want.”
Lily squinted at her a moment – then sighed. “All right, Mamma,” she said. “I won’t throw them all away in the middle of the night. But I still think it’s silly.”
“Well, you’re allowed to think that.” Victoria gave her a little smile. “But also think this – what do you think your Grandmother Everglot would do to me if she ever knew that I was improperly dressed for an occasion?”
Lily wrinkled her nose. “She shouldn’t do anything – you’re your own person,” she snapped, then deflated. “But you’re right. I wouldn’t want to hear her carry on either.”
“Exactly – and neither does your father,” Victoria said, releasing her and going back to drifting. “Or your other mother, even if she can much more easily get away. So I think I’ll keep my stockings on.”
“Fine.” Lily tilted her head as a breeze passed over them, as if listening to some unseen whisper. “But – perhaps you could at least get some prettier ones than just plain white? Grandmother Everglot couldn’t object to patterns if they match your dress.”
Victoria flashed her a grin. “Now that I think I could take under advisement.”
#happy birthday#hauntedcllhouse#fanfic#corpse bride#victoria everglot#hopefully this fulfills the brief you gave me adequately!#once you mentioned the stockings thing in your request I had to run with it XD#Lily has a point about Victoria's dresses being long enough to hide such impropriety#but Victoria is a product of her upbringing and prefers to stay properly dressed#and yes Kingsleigh is a reference to the Tim Burton Alice#I just like the name and it's an easy one to throw in if I don't have another one ready#but yes hope you enjoy#it was fun to write their banter#and Victoria might at least get more interesting stockings out of all this sooo :p#queued

What's the coolest plant in the world
Coolest plant in the world… god that's tricky cause what do you even choose or what rules do you even go by to put one at the top??? It's a much harder metric than just Favourite Plant, but a fun one to try to explore.
First thought for me was Ginkgo cause ancient-ass tree that despite nuclear bombs and fires and cityscape hostility REFUSES to die.
but then there is also
Any carnivorous plant, with them solving nutrient deficiencies with carnivory, but especially Drosera and Bladderwort since the former straight up has evolved TENTACLE LIKE HAIRS to catch its prey, and the latter basically specializes in carnivory UNDERWATER!!!
[image source] [image source in image]
Dracaena cinnabari for having BLOOD RED SAP (straight up called the Dragonsblood tree) and just looks funky/ancient af in its adult state.
Giants among their respective plant groups like Victoria boliviana being an infamous primeval giant among the water lilies.
And how could I forget the mind-boggling Boquila trifoliolata, the shapeshifter of vines, which will even try to mimic the leaves of FAKE plants its growing on/by, not just real plants.
There's also plants that actively change their microclimates to their advantage like Noble Rhubarb using pale translucent leaves as minigreenhouses to protect and warm its flowers, or Symplocarpus foetidus which can produce HEAT from its flowerbuds to melt the snow!!
And I'm sure I'm overlooking so many terrifying extremophiles within the plant kingdom for badass/cool factor as well as plants that are just straight-up metal. There's too many awesome ones to select to make just one single plan the coolest of all! Some of these remind me that fantasy/sci fi doesn't go far enough with plants oftentimes cause LOOK at these lads.
#ask#askbox#this ask made me have to mill a bit ngl- and google to job my memory on some funky lads lol#ramblings#long post#plantblr#tyvm for the ask Nate!#now if you had asked me what is the coolest plant in my fantasy world- then we'd have a very similar yet different ramble

Blessed Are The Pure In Heart
Victoria amazonica or Victoria Water Lily growing nicely in the tropics here. Photo credit: Eleanor Chua.
A native of South America, this giant water lily was so named in honour of Queen Victoria of England in 1837 who had ascended the throne that year. It was an era when many exotic plants, such as this water lily, were cultivated.

Weird Creature of the Day: Yrupe/Santa Cruz water lily
These are literally bigger than I am. Here's Victoria cruziana!
Clearly earning their status as one of the largest water lily species in the world, V. cruziana's individual pads grow up to 2 m (6.56 ft) in diameter.
They're native to South America, mainly Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, and Bolivia.
Their seeds must stay fully submerged in order to survive and eventually germinate.
This plant is thermogenetic, meaning it produces heat-- it is believed this is because while it prefers colder waters, it must release a lot of heat in order to attract pollinators to its blooms. Combined with its size, I wouldn't mind curling up in one for a nice heated blanket lake nap. I think it would fix me.
V. cruziana is a night blooming species. Their flowers only bloom for 2 nights at a time. The first night, the flower is a soft white, and on the second, it turns a lovely purple-pink. Its strong scent is reported by some to resemble fruit, such as pineapple (seriously, I want to see this in person so badly, that sounds wonderful!).
They rely primarily on various scarab beetles species for pollination.
Its English/Westernized common name, as well as its scientific name, come from the name of Andres de Santa Cruz, a Bolivian military official, politician, and frequent interim president of Peru (multiple times?) in the 1800s. It was named after him when the French naturalist sponsored by Santa Cruz, Alcide d'Orbigny, brought specimens back to France for display and study. To this day, the plant is popular in botanical gardens around the world.

#This beautiful girly LOVES stagnant water and bugs and being smelly!#The botanical gardens thing makes a lot of sense both because of what a clear spectacle Yrupe makes#And also because MOST popular houseplants come from the global south and their popularity is a direct result of the “”“exotic”“” trendiness#of them to colonizers and settlers around the world#south american wildlife#native wildlife#water lilies#botany#weird creature feed#wcf#wcotd

Water Lily (Oni × Namora)
Cont. to Grief
This is the link to Grief
Namora stared at the priestess as she sat beside her below the water's surface, hiding from the world while wearing her rebreather behind her veil.
She looked angelic as her lilac dress and veil swayed with the slow current.
Sitting in a comfortable silence.
It was peaceful sitting on the river floor.
Fish swam by.
River plants swayed.
Smooth stones sparkled in the sunlight that reached them.
The warrior only wished Oni could see how beautiful everything was when it rained.
The soft pitter patters that disturbed the surface, playing a soft lullaby for the world below.
Or even being in the presence of a waterfall.
Feeling the strength of the element she lived in made her feel powerful.
Her heart swelled at the thought of her swimming out to sea with her.
Gently pulling her through a kelp forest.
Showing her the grand reefs.
Swimming with animals.
Maybe showing her Talokan and watching her interact with the people of her world.
A small smile decorated her lips as she thought of things she wished to show the priestess.
"Namora."
"Mm?" She blinked, now realizing the priestess had been watching her just as intently.
"Your smile." She pointed out as her kimoyo beads translated. "It's like watching the first flower blossom in spring."
The warrior's face flushed at the compliment. "A flower?"
"Yeah." She nodded. "Have you ever seen a water lily before?"
She tilted her head before touching her chest. "Can you show me?"
The priestess swam forward and tapped her kimoyo beads until a hologram displayed an image of the flower. "They float on the water's surface and come in different colors." She pointed at the flower. "They remind me of your headdress, too."
Namora stared at the flower with soft eyes before looking up at the veiled woman.
"Do you like them?"
"Yes. I think they're beautiful."
Namora tilted her head as she looked at the flower. "Do they grow in Wakanda?"
"No. I've only seen them in movies, pictures, and books." She tapped her kimoyo beads a few times before an article appeared. "Most species of this plant originate from the eastern part of North America, but there is a larger one that can be found in parts of South America." A larger hologram appeared between them, revealing the plant. "It's called The Amazon water lily or Victoria amazonica."
"The flower is small."
"Yes. But look at how big the lily pads are."
Namora gave the hologram a second glance, eager to find what earned the plant the priestess' praise.
"I am not sure I understand your enthusiasm."
"They're massive. They could easily hold a toddler."
"It is this big?" Namora arched a brow.
"Yes." Oni showered her another image. "See."
"Hm."
Oni allowed her to look at it for a few minutes before deactivating the hologram.
"I've been meaning to ask..." Namora refocused on the floating priestess. "What does your name mean?"
"I was named after my cousin." She watched the priestess as she spoke. "His name is Namor to his enemies. It comes from a wicked surface dweller who harmed the surface dwelling descendants of our ancestors. They called him Un Niño Sin Amor. It means the boy without love. And from then on, he was called Namor."
"And you are, Namora."
"Yes. Una Niña Sin Amor."
Oni pondered the meaning before tilting her head.
"What about your family?"
"I do not know them. They gave me to the king in hopes of having their firstborn be of great service to the people."
"And you've never wanted to know them?"
"I will not disappoint them by looking for them. I will do as they wished."
"Are you happy?"
"I wouldn't wish to do anything else." Namora smiled. "Aj K'uk'ulkan raised me with Attuma. They are my family."
"Then you're not without love."
"I think you misunderstand my lack of love. I do not have love for the surface world."
"So you hate the surface world?"
"I do."
"And there's nothing good up there?"
"There is nothing good up there." She repeated in agreement.
The priestess allowed herself to sink so that she landed on the warrior's lap.
"I am from the surface world." Namora's eyes widened at her sudden invasion of space and leaned back. "Does that make me bad?"
The warrior shivered at the question.
Even though she could not see her face, she could only imagine her expression was somewhere between coy and smug.
"You are not bad."
"Then there are exceptions?"
"That does not mean I love the surface world."
Oni looked up that surface. "I think you'll learn to love the surface world with time."
"It is unlikely, but I may grow to love a few things."
"Am I one of those things?"
Namora stared up at her veiled face as she kept her veiled gaze on the world above.
"Yes."
Oni looked down at her.
Her veil not moving fast enough to cover her two-toned lips and a bit or her nose.
A genuine smile graced her lips for a moment before it faltered.
"Out of respect for you, I have to tell you that you'll never be able to get closer than we already are." Oni gently cupped her cheeks. "I have vows that I cannot break."
Namora stared for a moment before looking away out of respect.
"I understand."
"I should head back." Oni pulled back her hands and looked back up. "I'm sure Cebisa and the others are worried about me." She exhaled as she began to ascend.
Namora swam up and stopped when she was floating over the priestess like the rising sun.
"Will you see me tomorrow?"
"T-Tomorrow?"
"Yes."
"You want to see me tomorrow?"
Namora smiled at her surprise. "Yes, yuum k'iino'."
"But-"
"-If you have vows. I will not break them. However, I can still be your friend." Oni shivered as the warrior's face lowered until it was inches away. "Yes?"
"Yes."
"Then say yes. Come see me tomorrow."
"Where?"
"We can meet here tomorrow, whenever you're free."
"I'll be busy... so maybe a little before sunset."
Namora offered a small nod before moving back and holding out her hand.
Oni held out her hand hesitantly.
Namora smiled when her hand rested on hers. "I meant the rebreather, in lool." She squeezed her hand gently before letting go.
"In lool?" Oni tilted her head, noting how Griot struggled to translate nicknames.
"You'll have to figure it out." Namora smiled.
"Always making me learn." She deactivated her translator before laughing softly. "Two can play this game, in ba'ate'el."
Namora tilted her head in slight confusion when Griot didn't translate her words.
"Thanks for spending time with me. I pray Bast will let this become something more."
Oni lowered her head to remove the rebreather before holding it out.
The warrior gently took it and watched the priestess swim to the surface.
She swam up and poked her head out of the water to watch Oni look back and wave.
She offered a small wave back and watched her leave the leafy shore before slipping back below the surface.
The warrior began to swim away.
She was going to create a gift for the priestess and present it to her.
Something she could keep to herself and hide from the world.
It wasn't courting.
It was just... a friendship gift.
Or something.
Her face burned purple as she zoomed through the water to her destination.

William Sharp’s Chromolithographs of The Great Water Lily (1854):
Plant at Three Weeks of Growth
Underside of Leaf
Opening Bud
Opening Flower
Complete Bloom
Intermediate Stages of Bloom
These six magnificent colour lithographs are to be found in Victoria Regia, or, The Great Water Lily of America: With a Brief Account of its Discovery and Introduction into Cultivation (1854), a work by amateur botanist John Fisk Allen which documents his attempts to propagate the Amazon's Victoria regia (now called Victoria amazonica) in the more northerly climes of his hometown of Salem, Massachusetts. The wonderfully lavish plates accompanying the slim volume are the work of the British-born printer William Sharp, who is credited with creating the very first chromolithograph on American soil... source

A Green Oasis of Science: The Botanical Garden of Masaryk University
Nestled in the bustling city of Brno lies a hidden gem: the Botanical Garden of the Faculty of Science at Masaryk University. Founded in 1922, shortly after the establishment of the university itself, this garden has evolved into a veritable paradise for plant enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.
Upon my visit, I was immediately captivated by the diversity of plants and the meticulously landscaped grounds. The garden spans an area of about 1.5 hectares and houses an impressive collection of over 5,000 plant species from around the globe.
The greenhouses undoubtedly form the centrepiece of the garden. Here, I entered a fascinating world of tropical and subtropical vegetation. Particularly impressive was the greenhouse with its small pond, upon which majestic water lilies spread. The enormous leaves of the Victoria water lily floated like green islands on the water's surface, conveying a sense of tranquillity and exoticism.
One of the most captivating sights in the greenhouse was the Purple Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata). Its intricate lavender blooms, featuring a crown of delicate filaments, created a mesmerising display. This climbing beauty, native to the southeastern United States, not only adds a splash of colour but also serves as a testament to the garden's diverse collection of global flora.
Another highlight was the cactus room. The variety of shapes and sizes of the succulents was overwhelming. From tiny, spherical cacti to imposing columnar ones – each plant told its own story of adaptation to extreme living conditions.
The outdoor area of the garden was no less impressive. Well-maintained paths meandered through beds of native and exotic plants. Especially in spring and summer, when the flowers are in full bloom, the garden transforms into a sea of colours.
What makes the Botanical Garden of Masaryk University so special is its blend of beauty and science. It serves not only as a place of recreation for visitors but also as an important centre for research and teaching. Students and scientists use the garden for their studies, whilst visitors have the opportunity to experience the fascinating world of plants up close.
A visit to the Botanical Garden of Masaryk University is a journey through the global plant world – from tropical rainforests to deserts, all united in one place. It is a site that celebrates the beauty and diversity of nature and reminds us of the importance of preserving it.

🧸 - Does your muse own any sentimental objects from their past? What makes it/them so special? ( for kallie ! )
☠ ― 𝑀𝑖𝑠𝑐𝑒𝑙𝑙𝑎𝑛𝑒𝑜𝑢𝑠 𝑆𝑦𝑚𝑏𝑜𝑙 𝐻𝑒𝑎𝑑𝑐𝑎𝑛𝑜𝑛𝑠. // accepting!
Does your muse own any sentimental objects from their past?
Kallie has one sentimental object and it's a charm bracelet crafted by Victoria. Of course, it's not a normal charm bracelet but a magical one. Each charm represents the Atlas family, her mother, uncle and aunt. In addition, she has a dark charm that represents the Son of Hades, Virgil.
What makes it/them so special?
What makes the charm bracelet is that it can teleport the person when the charm is broken with her intent. An example being, if Kallie wanted to summon Victoria, she'd take Victoria's charm which is a lily seed, plant it and water it and it'll grow instantly and Victoria will show up via flower petals and wind. As for Virgil, given that it's a dark object, it can only be used three times. The charm is an hourglass and once it's broken, Virgil will be summoned. However, it can only be used in life-and-death situations.
