The Dinosaur Princess - Victor Milán
Dinosaur Lords Book 3
Read: Aug 2024
In this third installment of Dinosaur Lords, we've moved on from the events of the first two. New plans and plots are in motion. And I was really confused as I was reading because I was like, hello? Isn't this the last book? Why are we getting all this set-up? Turns out Dinosaur Lords was suppose to be a six book series, unfortunately Victor Milán died before he could complete the series. Truly sad.
But this book is still as good as the first two. Kidnapping and assassination plots, plans to usurp the throne. Things start hitting the fan. We start to get international politics involved. It's a whole thing. There are faeries now, which may or may not be the original inhabitants of the planet. It's kind of wild. Oh and let's not forget about how the enemy commander sneaks, naked, into our good guy commander's tent to profess his deep respect and admiration for him, and please let me express this by sucking you dry. It was nice touch.

Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II (Italian collection IX)
Hace un instante
Hi folks!
I'm sharing a building inspired by Gallerie Victor Emanuel II (Milán, Italy).
The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is Italy's oldest active shopping gallery and a major landmark of Milan. Housed within a four-story double arcade in the centre of town,[1] the Galleria is named after Victor Emmanuel II, the first king of the Kingdom of Italy. It was designed in 1861 and built by architect Giuseppe Mengoni between 1865 and 1877.
As allways, you will need the usual CC I use: all of Felixandre, Tha Jim, SYB, Regal Sims, etc.
Please enjoy, comment if you like it and share pictures with me if you use my creations!

Dinosaur Lords — A better title than book.
I’m currently 200 pages into a novel called ‘The Dinosaur Lords’ by Victor Milán. It was one of a half dozen on my TBR inspired by YouTubers and/or tumblr users’ suggestions.
But all I’ve done so far is just complain about it to anyone who will listen. For one, there is substantially less dinosaur action than you would expect. One or two battles, half a page of dinosaur pov, but mostly it’s political plot lines (which are predicable and smaller scale than the characters think they are) and sex scenes.
Also, so far the only female character has spent all her time either fucking or crying. I’m not saying she isn’t entitled to it, it’s just not fun to read.
Honestly, the book reads like it was written as a writing exercise rather than for publication. Adjectives are very much overused and the tone is far less consistent than one of my posts. Not to be too down on it, because getting published at all is a hell of an accomplishment, but god damn. I’m pushing through, because if I drop another book this month I’m going to be so upsetti.
In other news, I have read the first book of Demon Slayer and think that that is excellent. I’m not unique thinking this. It’s a good series.

July 2024 Book Log
New This Month:
The Legend of Luke by Brian Jacques (reread)
Obsidian Mirror by Catherine Fisher
Continuing:
The Deadlands Book 2: Trapped by Skye Melki-Wegner
My Good Man by Eric Gansworth (unfinished)
Ranger's Apprentice Book 3: The Icebound Land by John Flanagan (finished)
On Hold:
The Dinosaur Lords by Victor Milán
Dinosaur Summer by Greg Bear
Orochi Volume 2 by Kazou Umezz
Safe Area Goražde: The War in Eastern Bosnia 1992-95 by Joe Sacco (reread)
When I Arrived at the Castle by Emily Carroll
Tremendously embarrassed that Carroll's 100 or so pages of easy-to-read pictures has got me stonewalled. My sister read it all in one sitting, and I should've too, but I got flustered by Women and put it down for a second-turned-month. I'm sorry, Women.
I'm reluctant to talk too much about Ranger's Apprentice because I feel simultaneously that it deserves more and less than a couple paragraphs at the bottom of a monthly book log. Here's the thing, I have a lot more books to get through in this series, plus three other spinoff series that I probably won't even touch. There was a lot I wanted to say after book 1, and that number only doubles with each new book. The world just keeps unfolding. As do my critiques. So I'm going to hold my tongue and wait until the show's over before I start hurling tomatoes.
I stumbled upon Obsidian Mirror totally on accident. I wanted to reread Fisher's Relic Master quartet (called The Book of the Crow in GB), which is an all-time favorite of mine, but then I saw Mirror and went !!!! and grabbed it instead. (Also I just hit up her wiki page to verify titles and she's written so much?????? I only ever see Relic Master and Incarceron/Sapphique on shelves so I had no idea. Wow I'm gonna have to dig into this.) ANYWAY it's dope as fuck so far, and I'm really excited. I adore the way she blends fairytale-fantasy and scifi, it scratches my imagination just the right way. Her prose is also just. Pleasant to read. Unlike. Some other writers. We shan't mention. (but already have......)
Reading was at an all-time low this month because of Art Fight and also being consumed by??? Dark spirits of a sort????? Fear not, we'll get those numbers up once more. Redwall and Deadlands reviews forthcoming.

The Dinosaur Lords - Victor Milán
Dinosaur Lords Book 1
Reread: Jul 2024
I really love the world for Dinosaur Lords. Knights with dinosaur mounts?? Incredible. Plus since this is a reread I was able to pick up on more things about the world building that I loved. Milán does write at the very beginning page that this would is not Earth and will never be Earth. I got the impression that this was a "made" world, like, terraformed and engineered. Which adds a cool element to it.
But the main cool factor is the dinosaurs! Like come on that's so fun. The whole human world just lives with them, they have common names for them, they ride them. I love it. The setting is very much based on western Europe, but like if Spain ruled the whole place. The common language is Spanish. And since the climate is tropical, the clothing is described as very minimal, which I thought was a hilarious touch. And in an even better touch, there's lots of bisexuality going around, a favourite of polytheistic cultures I feel. Which is what this culture has, a worldwide polytheistic religion, governed in a structure reminiscent of the Catholic Church. I could carry on and on about the worldbuilding, slut that I am for worldbuilding, but I figure I should speak a bit about the plot.
We have a nice "betrayed by the powers that be" figure who moves into a help defend the underdogs position. Basically our betrayed friend is a great military captain and is hired to help protect a province who has turned to pacifist, pseudo-communist ideals. The surrounding aristocrats take it as a sign to raid and pillage. Why there isn't more solidarity between fellow countrymen I have no idea. A common feature between medieval feudal lords? Or a plot device? I can't say. I know so little about the medieval period, I'm not sure what is pulled from irl examples and what isn't. Anyways it's time to build an army! Which I enjoy, there's something about the building an army from scratch thing, that tickles a similar place as learning magic at school thing. Satisfying and lovely.
Plus we get to learn more about war dinosaurs!! The main war mounts are Lambeosaurine hadrosaurs, all the big crested guys. As a hadrosaur lover (I lived and breathed a maiasaur skull for my honours thesis), this made me very happy. Hadrosaurs are cool guys. And yes truly "important" guys (see: men, straight, white, top warriors, 🙄) ride big theropod mounts. It's less fun for me. Plus I'm constantly wondering about their centre of gravity for having a rider. Like does the rider have to ride on their hips? Feels like the answer should be yes. Milán never says.

Decided to start my coloring process a bit differently. Used grays to give me a better idea of what I'm trying to go for. Rather than simply using what is in my head alone. Also picked out the palette and started to get color in. Still messing with the rain texture too. Which could also be animated possibly.

i enjoy the dinosaur lords trilogy so far. yes the writing is a bit unpolished in how it expresses itself and the dinosaur aspect of it isn’t as much of it as i would hope. but it’s what i was looking for in a shitty fantasy novel about knights and dinosaurs. i also enjoyed the degree of thought victor milán put into how dinosaurs would fit into the world. these people would’ve grown with dinosaurs throughout centuries so of course each of the languages has different terms and names for each of the species. and while it is a bit random, i enjoy the little blurb quotes from the book of true names at the beginning of each chapter that lets you know which dinosaur they’re actually talking about.
it isn’t an outstanding book by any means and it’s subpar at most but it’s genuinely a fun read if you just want to read a shitty fantasy story about dinosaurs and stuff
