Refined shibori yukata, with kanji parable “setsugekka” ("Snow, Moon, and Flower").

It references a Chinese poem written by Bai Juyi (Tang dynasty) where the beginning of a verse goes “I remember you especially when snow, the moon or flowers are beautiful”.  

During Edo period, this expression came to represent the passing of seasons (winter snow, autumn moon, spring flowers), and was a popular theme for ukiyoe prints series. Here is one, pretty litteral, by Sakai Hôitsu:

This week’s prompt:

After last week's sadness, we’re doing something short and fun this week: a tanka.

Theme: Write about an object in the Good Omens world. Is it the Bentley? A plant? Sword, flaming like anything? Or Furfur’s summoning ring? Go have fun!

What is a tanka poem?

A tanka is a Japanese poem  written in  five lines and has thirty-one syllables. It’s free verse, so it doesn’t follow any rhyming schemes or meters. The structure is as follows:

Line 1: 5 syllables

Line 2: 7 syllables

Line 3: 5 syllables

Line 4: 7 syllables

Line 5: 7 syllables

The first two lines are descriptive while the third line must transition the beginning lines into a reflective metaphor , simile or personification for the two closing lines.

So basically I had a dream about like a swap version of Kenikari and I'm like YANNO WHAT SURE LET'S MAKE THAT REAL

The only part in the dream shown was Lare stabbing the shit out of Alex so the rest I kinda had to think myself (well technically I thought of the dream too but yanno)...

Anyways the AU's name is Collateral Maximum (wanted to do something with collateral damage and this is what I came up with)

Presenting the Nakamori Sisters: (Shirako’s 4 older sisters)

赤子/Akako (Red Child): 21yrs old. She’s a professional shamisen player, her family suspects she’s working as an Oiran. she brings home too much cash but no one really knows what she’s doing except that it involves a shamisen.

青子/Aoko (Blue Child): 18 years old A Miko (shrine maiden) at the local shrine. She left home cuz it’s too hectic and she needed peace to paint and read in, so she decided living in a shrine in the mountains seemed like the way to do it. The most reserved one of the siblings. Spends her time reading and doing her shrine duties. Shirako runs off to see her in the mountains a lot and chases after wild animals. Aoko and co at shrine find her to be way to hectic but Shira has a way of driving off animals with her gremlin-ness so she can stay.

碧優子/Miyuko: (green/elegant child) 16 yrs old. Learning how to be a proper lady. Apprenticing in a matcha parlour as a tea hostess, she’s very sweet and likes making dessert. She’s well versed in tea and sweets and her personality is said to be overly sweet from all the sugar she consumes. She kind of is stuck in the middle of everything always. Doesn’t stand out much but is also loved dearly. Shirako likes going to the tea shop to harass her for sweets and drinking the matcha she makes.

紫/Murasaki: (purple) 13 yrs old. Supposed to be the last child in the family. Then Shirako came along… She’s a gremlin child but actually knows how to use a katana unlike Shira and knows when to compose herself. (Shira but with manners) Tentative successor to the moms bloodline since she had some semblance of diplomacy in her likes to read and has good medic skills from patching Shira up all the time. She spends her spare time weaving straw hats and selling them, so she can save up on cash to buy more books.

Everyone still works at Bar Lupin, but might have slightly different backstories.

Maurice - 24, the owner and main bartender. He and his younger sister Georgette were orphaned as children and ended up in an orphanage, but escaped to avoid being separated. He has a juvenile criminal record for theft and robbery (which he committed to feed himself and his sister), but has long since cleaned up his act, although he still likes to put the skills he's learned on the streets to use to impress and entertain costumers.

Georgette - 21, Maurice's younger sister and full-time waitress. Devoted to her brother for raising and protecting her after they were orphaned. She also volunteers for the local community theater as a makeup artist, costume designer and substitute actress (her ability to play both female and male roles is highly coveted).

Murasaki - 23, a college student who works part-time as a waitress. Estranged from her mother, whose domineering behavior caused her daughter to have a mental breakdown and seek emancipation at 17. Loves literature (both reading and writing) and is a skilled baker.

James - 40s, the bar manager (often mistaken for being the owner as well). Looks younger than his actual age (no one's ever given him more than 30 years). Has experience working in bars, having ran his family's pub for almost ten years. Sole survivor of a tragic accident where he lost his entire family (parents, wife and unborn child). Never gets drunk.

Henry - 32, supplier and occasional bouncer. Having worked as a sailor for half his life, he has several contacts and connections with many businesses. The oldest of three siblings, he's naturally protective and nurturing (albeit often oblivious to many costumers crushing on him). His arms are covered in tattoos. Has a love for poetry.

Ted - 20, a really quiet young man (whether he's unable to speak or simply chooses not to is a mystery to many), works as a busboy and barkeep-in-training. A skilled artist, illustrator and cartoonist. Adopted and raised by two loving mothers since he was a baby, had a bit of a sheltered upbringing but is curious and adventurous. Often feeds the local stray cats.

Patrick - 25, barback. Born with an extraordinary sense of smell (hyperosmia), he dreams of becoming a perfumer and is saving up money to open his own perfume shop. Has a troubled past (the result of his mother's affair with a married man, grew up in foster care until the age of 16, etc.).

Arthur - 26, cook. Formerly a pharmacist, he was disgraced after an experimental drug of his creation almost killed a patient (in truth it was his boss' fault, who pushed for using the medicine despite his subordinate's protests and put all the blame on him to save his own skin). Tests the drugs he creates on himself at times (under strict supervision) and is a coffee addict.

The Tale of Genji is considered the first ever novel. It was written by a noblewoman named Murasaki Shibiku (a pen name, her real name is unknown), although authorship of some later chapters are debated (possibly add-ons; some believe her daughter finished the tale). Some believe that its ending is abrupt because it wasn’t finished or because she wrote it in a serial form with no end in sight.

It’s worth noting that the text had to first be translated into modern Japanese before it could be translated into English. No one is named (as that would have been rude at the time) and characters sometimes speak in verse (where it’s assumed the reader would know the rest of the poem and its meaning).

The author was a lady-in-waiting for most of the time she wrote this, which means that she was at Imperial Court—in Kyoto. So it felt fitting to brinng my new copy to Kyoto on our trip, and make sure it saw some familiar sights. It’s past time I read this one, and I hope to do so soon.

For my Translated!Jess whump fic, I am scrapping the half a chapter I've already written, which was from Wolfe's PoV, and instead writing it from Khalila's in order to do some obvious worldbuiding in this "Sword and Pen Didn't Happen" verse. Such as, Khalila being Archivist Murasaki's assistant, and a mess of Obscurist Magni and some politics therein (more on that later). And maybe fast-forward some of the mystery of wtf is happening so that I can get to the recovery whump that the fic was created for.

A moment later, Wolfe frowned. Was he imagining things? He had to be. He'd thought of the two, and so he could hear them. Mildly worrying.

"believe you did-"

"And I told you-"

No, here they were, barrelling down the corridor in the midst of a blazing row. Wolfe slipped his Codex back into his pocket and turned towards the door. His skin prickled with the urge to tell them both to shut up and stop shouting around Jess, but that was ridiculous. He wasn't asleep. The Medicas had been quite clear on that.

Then Morgan shoulder-barged her way through the door and stood there, panting and staring at Jess, and Wolfe's stomach dropped like a stone.

She looked terrible. Ashen and sheened with perspiration, with dark circles under her eyes and a visible twitch in her left eyelid. What had happened? He'd seen her just this morning.

Barely had he opened his mouth to express concern when his stomach dropped again, hard enough to make him want to vomit.

He knew what had happened. Nic had alluded to it, briefly. Suggested that his father had had it under control. This was under control?

He'd seen this before, in Philadelphia when Morgan had -

When I pushed her too far, he corrected himself. When she had been polluted by too much direct quintessence usage, thanks to his instructions. She'd turned to Jess then too, even barely conscious and feverish, subconsciously draining him for her own survival -

- Before Wolfe was quite aware of his own decision, he had jumped to his feet and positioned himself between her and Jess. Let her drain him instead. He'd heard so many times over that he had almost enough detectable power. Let that go to protect Jess. Something useful for once.

But rather than reach for him with glazed, hungry eyes, she merely blinked and pulled a confused face. A moment later, her face cleared again.

"It's all right, Scholar. I'm drugged, it's fine."

"You're what?" His head, already sore, throbbed as if in protest at these constant unpleasant shifts. War-zone driving for the emotions. He glared at his father who had just entered the room.

"Don't look at me! It was entirely her doing!" Eskander barely spared a glance for Wolfe, focusing on Morgan with a bad-tempered look that was far too close to the one Wolfe would see in his own mirror. It still disconcerted him, regularly. Not only was his father now in his life, but so much of what Wolfe had thought made him his own person appeared to have come from that damn old man.

"Well, it wouldn't have been my doing if you'd just burnt it out the quick bloody way again!"

"I told you we can't keep doing that!" Eskander's voice thundered in the room. Wolfe saw Morgan's fists clench. This could clearly go on for hours.

"Both of you shut up," he said, firmly and quickly in the slim moment's silence while Morgan was gearing herself up. To his shock and relief, that worked, though they both shot him looks that could strip paint from walls. "Morgan. Are you safe to be here?"

"Yes." She yawned and swayed as she did so. "I overreached getting Jess back and I'm having some problems, but Gregory had this absolutely terrible drug he used to take our powers away temporarily. So I can't do anything stupid."

"Oh, that I doubt." Better to be sarcastic than to probe too deeply about any of that, right now.

She gave him a sheepish grin. Wolfe fought the urge to grin back and folded his arms instead. "So what exactly-"

Then his Codex buzzed.

And Jess' alarms started up again.

I'm REALLY CLOSE to finishing the next chapter of hostage fic (can't even remember the actual title it's just called hostage fic ok. The one where Dario and Wolfe get kidnapped.). No snippets from that, I try my best to give @rosalind-of-arden an actual surprise once in a blue moon. Nobody is having a good time in that one, apart from ME.

I'm also writing a sinful Wolfe/Khalila/Morgan smut fic which I'm looking forward to. (Set post-canon, Morgan Lives because I say so). There is no plot. The plot is, Wolfe is sad and women are beautiful.

I've also got a couple of ideas floating round about Dario's family. Because angst. Particularly one where Santi helps Dario out with Dad vibes because @cogaytes once doubted I could write them & not / and I have taken up the challenge!!!!!

Beyblade Trope Pantheon - Burst

This links back to the Metal Saga version I done. Coming up is a list of the people in the Beyblade Burst verse and which tropes they would represent.
