Larry Reeves, 66

Larry "Brent" Reeves, age 66, of North Wilkesboro, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, July 1, 2017. He was born February 4, 1951 in Wilkes County to Rev. Garland and Mary Johnston Reeves. Mr. Reeves was retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation as an accountant after 35 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Larry Reeves II.

Surviving are his wife, Phyllis King Reeves; brother, Rev. Michael Reeves and wife Lori of North Wilkesboro; and sister, Velda Handy and husband Gilbert of North Wilkesboro.

Funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at Flint Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Sherrill Wellborn and Rev. Mitchell Johnston officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 12:30. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Wake Forest Baptist Health and Hospice, 126 Executive Drive, Suite 110, Wilkesboro, NC 28697.

Clark Sheets, 79

Clark Roberson Sheets, age 79, of Wilkesboro, died Saturday, July 1, 2017 at his home. He was born June 1, 1938 in Wilkes County to Jesse and Ettie Sheets. Mr. Sheets retired from Lowe's Companies after 27 years. He enjoyed reading, flower gardening, and fishing. Mr. Sheets was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ronda Sheets and wife Leoma, Otto Sheets and wife Faye.

Surviving are his wife, Peggy Nichols Sheets; son, Kenneth Sheets and wife Tammy of Wilkesboro; daughter, Andree Herman and husband Tim of Hickory; and granddaughter, Casey Sheets of Brooklyn, New York.

Funeral service was held July 3, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Brady Hayworth officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Pruitt Health Hospice, 902 West D Street, Suite B, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659 or a Hospice of the donor's choice.

Edna Ashley, 80

Edna Kathleen Ashley, age 80, of North Wilkesboro, died Thursday, June 29, 2017 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. She was born July 4, 1936 in Rockingham County to Joseph Cummings and Edna Boaz Penn. She enjoyed traveling, singing and spending time with her family. Mrs. Ashley was preceded in death by parents; daughter, Shirley Wood; and son, Woodrow Jefferson, Jr.

Surviving are her children, David Jefferson of North Wilkesboro, Edna Dowell and husband Perry of Roaring River, Mark Jefferson of Somerset, Kentucky; nine grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren.

Memorial service was July 3, at Miller Funeral Chapel with Rev. Ronnie Ellis and Rev. Elliott Smith officiating.

Effie Sanders, 60

Effie Diane Sanders, age 60, of Moravian Falls, died Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born April 27, 1957 in Wilkes County to Romie and Doris Greene Sanders. She attended Rock Springs Baptist Church. Mrs. Sanders was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Charles Sanders.

Surviving are her husband, David Castle; daughters, Nicole Church and husband Clifton of Wilkesboro, Jackie Castle, Julie Castle both of North Wilkesboro; brothers, Ronnie Sanders, Lawrence Sanders both of Darby, Kenneth Sanders, Johnny Sanders both of Boomer; sisters, Elizabeth Walsh and husband Kenneth, Phyllis Minton and husband D.C. all of Darby, Susie Walsh and husband Gary of Boomer, Audrey Walsh and Jerry Gilbert, Barbara Gilbert and husband Leroy all of Ferguson; two grandchildren; three great grandchildren.

Funeral service was July 2, at Rock Springs Baptist Church with Pastor Roy Kanupp officiating. Burial followed in Sanders Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to SECU Family House, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston Salem, NC 27103.

Charles Woodie, Jr.

Mr. Charles Wilson Woodie, Jr., age 78 of Wilkesboro, NC was welcomed into heaven on June 28, 2017. His family surrounded him at home. His firm belief in God gave him comfort in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.

Funeral services were uly 1, at Pilgrim Baptist Church with Rev. Derek Kilby and Rev. Dennis Love officiating. Burial with Military Honors by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1142 was in the church cemetery. Mr. Woodie was born December 8, 1938 to the late Charles and Chessie Sheets Woodie of Ashe County and was the youngest of eleven children. After graduating high school from Nathans Creek, he served in the Army stationed at Fort Dix, NJ. He was proud to be a veteran and to have served his country. Charles enjoyed fishing, mechanics, NASCAR and watching his birds. When visiting Charles you were bound to watch a western on TV, most of them, which he knew by heart. He also enjoyed cooking and was known for his golden cornbread! "Pepaw" loved spending time playing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved visiting and talking with his sisters when they would reminisce about the days of their childhood. He was a longtime member of Pilgrim Baptist Church in Wilkesboro, NC.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 40 years; Lois Miller Woodie, two brothers and four sisters.

Charles is survived by his four children; Carolyn Ferguson and husband Keg of West Jefferson, Jada Phillips and husband Lamarr of Seabrook Island, SC, Richard Woodie of Millers Creek and Laura Call and husband Brian of North Wilkesboro, six grandchildren; Brad, Kristen, Austin, Matthew, Caroline and Mia and four precious great grandchildren, four sisters; Iola Richardson, Aberdeen, MD, Mary Severt of Millers Creek, Nancy Black of Jefferson and Lil Neaves and husband John of Jefferson. Charles was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He deeply longed for Lois, his cherished wife and best friend. We thank God for the gift of his life and the blessing of the time we each spent with him.

Janice Ritch, 63

Janice Louise Ritch, age 63, of Boomer, died Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born September 17, 1953 in Watauga County to James and Vera Greer. Mrs. Ritch was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters, Eileen Pennell, Shirley Johnson, Mozel Watson and Peggy Johnson.

Surviving are her husband, David Ritch; daughter, Caprice Osborne and Roger Anderson of North Wilkesboro; son, Robert Osborne of North Wilkesboro; step son, Jonathon Ritch of Mars Hill; step daughter, Shana Ritch of Weaverville; brother, Jimmy Greer and wife Grace of Lenoir; sister, Opal Killian of Lenoir; grandchildren, Alicia Stone Hamby and husband Lee of North Wilkesboro, Christa McCoy and husband Seth of Hays, Tyler Osborne of Wilkesboro, Elizabeth Ritch and Lillian Ritch both of Mars Hill; great grandchildren, Cheyenne McCoy, Paige Hamby, Jace McCoy and Korbin Hamby; and niece, Sandra Watson and husband David of Caldwell County.

Funeral service was July 1, at Boomer Advent Christian Church with Rev. Matthew Vannoy officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Flowers will be accepted.

Willis Stokes, 93

Willis Palmer Stokes, age 93, of Wilkesboro, died Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at Wilkes Regional Medical Center. She was born October 12, 1923 in Charleston, West Virginia to Rev. Dennis and Martie Watts Palmer. She was a member of New Damascus Baptist Church and was very involved in serving on the Usher Board. Mrs. Stokes was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond Lee Stokes, Sr.; and a brother, Raymond Palmer.

Surviving are her daughter, Cereda S. Johnson and husband Tony of Harrisonburg, Virginia; sons, Raymond L. Stokes, Jr. of Chesapeake, Virginia, Dennis P. Stokes of Wilkesboro, Wendell S. Palmer of Orange, Texas; sisters, Ollie Belle Watkins of North Wilkesboro, Mary Helen Brown of Charlotte, Teresa Hill of Roaring River; brothers, Sylvester Palmer of Brooklyn, New York, Bobby Palmer of Atlanta, Georgia, Dennis Palmer, Jr., of Pasadena, California; seven grandchildren; several great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside service was July 1, at Highview Cemetery with Rev. James Welborn officiating. Flowers will be accepted.

Peggy Gilreath, 82

Peggy Hopkins Gilreath, age 82, of Wilkesboro, died Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at Rose Glen Manor. She was born February 6, 1935 in Gaston County to James Russell and Julia Ensley Hopkins. She was a member of Fountain of Life Pentecostal Church and a school teacher at CC Wright and Millers Creek Elementary. She loved arts, crafts and sewing. Mrs. Gilreath was preceded in death by her parents.

Surviving are her husband, Ward Gilreath; daughter, Melanie Coleman and husband John of North Wilkesboro; brother, Samuel Hopkins and wife Judy of Osprey, Florida; sisters,

Elaine Feagle and husband Roy of Winter Haven, Florida, Sue Hendren and husband Lowell of Moravian Falls; and three grandchildren, Katelyn Coleman, Neeci Coleman, John Gavin Coleman.

Memorial service was July 1, at Fountain of Life Pentecostal Church with Rev. Hugh Hoyle and Rev. Marc Abernathy officiating. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Fountain of Life Pentecostal Church Building Fund, 2512 Brushy Mtn. Rd., Wilkesboro, NC 28697.

Thomas Elmore, 84

Mr. Thomas "Tommy" Elmore, 84, of Wilkesboro, passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2017.

Tommy was born on May 10, 1933 to the late Herman Elmore and Sterlie Cockerham Elmore in Wilkes County.

Tommy worked with Century Link for 42 years.

Tommy also enjoyed fishing and music.

Tommy is preceded in death by his parents; sons, Ronnie Elmore, Eddie Elmore and Dennis Elmore. Brothers Paul Elmore, Joe Elmore, and Sister, Francis Lloyd.

Thomas is survived by his daughter, Patricia Elmore of the home; sister in law, Betty Elmore of Newport News Virginia. Nephew, Michael Elmore of Newport News Virginia. Two nieces Tammy Elmore and Beth Lloyd both of Newport News, Virginia.

A grave service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at Eschol Cemetery 1820 Edgewood Road Wilkesboro. Rev. Ronnie Millsaps and Rev. Tim Pruitt will be officiating.

Funeral Rites will be conducted by both the Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guard Post 1142 and Liberty Mansion Lodge 45.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to a charity of the donor's choice.
