Westchester County FINALLY has a good all-vegetarian restaurant! Good Choice Kitchen, a vegan cafe麓 on Main St. in Ossining, serves healthy, tasty, locally-sourced breakfast, lunch and dinners, to stay or take out. They also have a menu of delicious fresh juice combos, as well as smoothies and nut milk beverages. If you want dinner, be sure to get there in time; they close at 8 pm. They have coffee, thank god, but if you have to have yours with milk or cream, bring your own; this joint is strictly vegan. I had mine with almond milk聽(they make their own, from scratch), and was mesmerized by the psychedelic patterns it formed in my cup. 聽http://goodchoicekitchen.com/

A Vegan鈥檚 Perspective on Myanmar
I visited the cities of Mandalay, Bagan and Yangon of Myanmar. The history is rich and their culture there is beautiful. When it comes to food, despite backpacking most of South East Asia, I found it unique as compared to Myanmar鈥檚 neighbouring countries. Some unique dishes include pickled tea leaves as an appetizer (not for the faint-hearted!) and tamarind in soups and drinks.
As a vegetarian/vegan, it is not too difficult to find appropriate dishes to eat. However, you have to be careful because of the language barrier. Although the menus of mainstream restaurants will have English translation, the descriptions might not be detailed enough to declare whether meat was used.
For me I had a guide so everything was explained by him. Moreover, after knowing about my diet, he brought me to an awesome vegetarian restaurant!
1) The Moon
A vegetarian restaurant. I like how there is an extensive menu and I can order everything inside!
Spring rolls with three different dips. Sweet chilli, coconut milk and tamarind.
Vegetables omelette
2) Traditional feast in Myanmar
Many of their restaurants offer this feast, which is served on a traditional serving basket (which actually makes the whole thing elevated and quite difficult to eat). This serves 6 but our group of 5 found it difficult to finish!
I had only about 2-3 dishes including appetizers that I could consume safely, but nonetheless it filled me and I had a really eye-opening and satisfying meal. :D
This is another one of their traditional desserts. Basically coconut milk served with glutinous rice. sago beads and coconut jelly. They put in a piece of bread and several ice chunks. We ate this at a roadside stall and I have to be honest, I felt queasy about the slice of bread soaked in cold coconut milk, but I see the potential of this dish being splendid when done properly!
3) Shan noodles
Shan is a region in Myanmar that borders China, Thailand and Laos. So maybe its cuisine is relatively different from the rest of Myanmar. One popular dish is the Shan noodles, which is rice noodles with a unique tamarind-peanut paste.
Traditionally, there will be chicken chunks in it but my guide told the chef to omit it for me. I was able to enjoy this traditional noodles.
Served with these condiments. I loved the pickles on the right and the chilli flakes on the left! They pack a punch.
4) Fruits
As a tropical country, fruits are aplenty in Myanmar. You can stop at roadside stalls to get mangoes, rambutan and mangosteens.
Or even my favourite, Durians! ;P
If you dare to experiment, Myanmar offers a myriad of interesting dishes, that are vegan/vegetarian-friendly. X

New Zealand from a vegan鈥檚 perspective
Kia Ora! I鈥檓 back from an 18-day road trip around New Zealand. I covered almost the whole country except the west coast. Another time then! ;)
New Zealand is REALLY vegan friendly. Almost all the restaurants I went to had a vegetarian/vegan menu, and if you would like your food gluten free, you simply have to ask! You鈥檒l NEVER go hungry in New Zealand. Here is a list of food I ate in New Zealand! Enjoy. X聽
1) Nando鈥檚
If you don鈥檛 know yet, Nando鈥檚 is incredibly vegetarian-friendly! They have a portion of their menu with quality vegetarian food, and most of their sides are vegetarian/vegan!
Here I had a piri piri vegetarian paella. Yums!
2) Best Ugly Bagels
This is a really nice hipster cafe specialising in bagels. It occupies an old warehouse so it may take some time to find! There were many vegetarian options, for vegans you can opt out of the cream cheese hehe.
3) Mexican restaurants
Many Mexican restaurants have vegetarian options, that鈥檚 a well-known fact. So when you have ran out of options (unlikely in NZ) or you are craving another cuisine, Mexican is the way to go! This NZD10 bean and sweet potatoes burrito is not only filling (caught that pun there? ;P), it is incredibly healthy with low GI carbs and proteins from the beans!
4) Fergburger
Yes yes, 90% of its menu is meat, but the vegetarian/vegan options really give us a run for our money! I ate here THRICE throughout my stay in Queenstown, and I even ate their Tofu burger twice. Which says a lot because I don鈥檛 like repeating same menu items.
5) Burgerfuel
Another burger place with really good burgers although admittedly, Fergburgers, at the same price, is really better in terms of portion and quality.
Here I ordered a tofu and avocado burger, with a soy milkshake and kumara fries which were the BOMB! No more normal potatoes fries. Switching to low GI fries from now. ;)
6) If all else fails...
Cook your own! We stayed in motels and airbnbs and their kitchens are fully equipped so we had the luxury of making our own meals. So although I am the only vegetarian in my group, they kindly accommodated my eating choice and every meal I had vegetarian food to eat. :)
Aglio olio, with stir-fried broccoli, carrots and mushrooms.
Corn, carrots, onion macaroni comfort soup with stir-fried zucchini with broccoli and cauliflowers and an onion omelet. Total yums and totally within our budget! ;)
7) FRUITS
Special shoutout to the ubiquitous New Zealand fruit because it represents the fruits of the trip!
Good luck to all the beautiful vegetarians and vegans or even people trying on this diet while travelling!! Hopefully this post inspires you. XO
