Fat Albert (2004) short essay
Fat Albert is a live action film based on the animated TV series Fat Albert that was created by Bill Cosby. Bill Cosby was also the one to write the screenplay for the film. The film also includes some notable actors including Kenan Thomson from Saturday Night Live as Fat Albert. The film covers the story of the characters from the TV show Fat Albert coming to life and helping a teenage girl named Doris with some personal issues. As well as being a lighthearted comedy, the film also covers some serious topics such as self-esteem and the feeling of belonging.
The critical reception of the film was mixed. There were many reviewers that praised the film for its charm and positive message, there were also many reviewers that criticized the film due to its reliance on cliches and lack of originality. There was also some criticism of the film due to the heavy hitting similar titles that were coming out at the time. In Roger Ebert's review he states, "It's ingenious in the way it shows the cartoon characters amazed by the real world (hey-hey-hey, they learn from a poster in a video store that they're on a "de-ved," or however you say "DVD"). But in a season where the standards have been set for animated entertainment by "The Polar Express" and "The Incredibles," I don't think "Fat Albert" is up to speed" This quotation shows that some critics had mixed feelings about the film as well. In another extremely critical review by Ed Gonzolez of Slant Magazine he states "Fat Albert begins promisingly, but looks can be deceiving: It only gives the illusion that it is grappling with black identity in America. As soon as Fat Albert and the Kids enter the film’s live-action Philly (the film was shot entirely in California), they begin to lose their luster. Meanwhile, Doris (Kyla Pratt) seems to be suffering from a similar identity crisis: The girl is really sad, ostensibly because her foster sister Lauri (Dania Rodriquez) is some kind of Anglo aspirant, but while the friendly Lauri’s conventional good looks seemingly allow her to mix well with the pretty white girls at her school, Doris’s problems (she doesn’t have any friends) don’t exactly have anything to do with her physical appearance." This review is particularly critical of the fact that race does not play a big role in the film even though it seemed as though it would.

One relevant historical event that was ongoing at the time of the film was the rapid advancement of technology at the time. One of the main technologies that greatly affected this, as well as every other film that was made around this time was the introduction of DVD players. This particular advancement is actually mentioned near the beginning of the film. In the film they learn from a poster in a video store that they're on a "de-ved," or however you say "DVD"
Another important historical event that was happening at the time of the film was the ongoing HIV/AIDS epidemic. This ongoing crisis could have led to this film's themes of community support and solidarity in overcoming adversity being relevant to many who were suffering through this epidemic.
The feel of this film is certainly one of lightheartedness and nostalgia. The film has a nostalgic feel to it due to the setting of the 1970s and the inclusion of 70s music, clothing, and culture. The films lighthearted feel is due to a couple decisions in the creation of the film. One thing that helps to give this film a lighthearted feel is the feelgood soundtrack that is present throughout the film. Another way that they accomplish this feel from the film is through the comedy and overall positive message that is conveyed.
The final topic that I will be covering in this essay is whether the film is a conventional or an unconventional film. I believe that this film falls comfortably into the conventional category of films. This is for numerous reasons. The first reason why I believe that this is the case is because of the cast and producers of the film being extremely popular. The film is also based on an already well-established television show. Another reason why this is a conventional film is because of the actual content of the film. The film is family friendly, thus appealing to the greatest possible audience, and does not cover any topics that might alienate anyone from watching the film. Overall, this film was created to appeal to the widest possible audience and be a box office success.
In conclusion, the film Fat Albert was a lighthearted family friendly film that appealed to all audiences. Although the film did receive some mixed reviews, with criticism of its lack of exploration of racial topics and its lack of originality. The film came out it a tough time and provided a sort of escapism and nostalgia to many who were suffering at the time. Overall, this film was created to be a box office success and be enjoyable to viewers of all ages.

As part of my research for this project, I selected several artists and films on which I will base my observations on body image, shame, and imperfections. As the second part of my project, I intend to create visual works such as etching printing and also a 3D project.
First Artist is
Suzan Bordo is an American philosopher and writer born in New Jersey, USA. Her works are mainly based on feminist views and theories. Many of her works discuss the body and topics related to it, as well as choruses such as anorexia and bulimia. Her work also describes all kinds of concepts of masculinity and sexual harassment among both women and men. As part of her research, she wants to focus on her two books "Unbearable Weight: Feminism, Western Culture, and the Body" (1993) and "The Male Body: A New Look at Men in Public and Private" (1999), in which Bordo discusses topics regarding the body and the influence of culture and the gender that judges it on our body image.(1)
Second Artist is a polish young illustrator called Oliwia Bober based in London. In her art as she said she like to explore a topic of femininity. Lots of her work showing a vulva shape cooperating with flowers and woman’s body. By her work she would like to show up that’s an intimate parts of our body’s are not a things to be a shame of. (2)

Next artist is called Barbara Kruger. Born on 26 January 1995, in New Jersey, United States. Her works are mainly collages in black and white with some slogans. Her works express the power of identity, consumerism and sexuality. As one of the postmodern feminists, she mainly uses methods of communicating to the masses, and in her works, she explores the issues of gender and identity. She actively participates in various activities related to women's rights, showing her support by creating posters and other types of works, such as her poster for the 1989 Women's March on Washington in support of legal abortion.(3)

Fourth Artist as my reaserch for this project will be Cindy Sherman. Cindy Sherman is an American artist born in 1954. She has always been inspired by the topic of identity and shows it in various ways in her works. In his works, Sherman shows stereotypes associated with particular types of people. Her almost theatrical and sometimes extremely exaggerated reflection of a given type makes the observer think about herself and the norms prevailing in society. Over the years, her works have evolved, touching on almost taboo topics regarding the human body, which we can observe in her works showing her stylized as a dead body. or using prosthetics in her work. The topic of ugliness and insecurity about the human body showed a dark side of human identity in my opinion.(4)
Figure 5 https://images.app.goo.gl/JrzpnjtyiDawxXEL7
Figure 6 https://www.google.com/search?sca_esv=56fd5fdc65d94044&sca_upv=1&rlz=1C9BKJA_enGB1001GB1001&hl=en-GB&sxsrf=ACQVn0_2W6s-RhXkNGEt4N_AiRCHEMK2LQ:1707648406292&q=cindy+sherman&tbm=isch&source=lnms&prmd=ivnmbtz&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwi42aGFjqOEAxUJa0EAHeZLCyUQ0pQJegQICBAB&biw=535&bih=696&dpr=2#imgrc=u2VVynx_N-KkMM&imgdii=Js-0F96k0FGdLM
As last part of my reaserch I would love to see some of movies about body image and insecurities and a consequences that going with a wrong ideas about us and our visual part.
One of movie is named a “ Hair spray” it’s about a girl who is overweight and her story about getting to be a television persona.
Another movie is called “Dumpling” movie again about overweight girl and mother who is obsessed in perfect look.
The last movie is called “ To the bone” movie showing us a story about anorectic woman and others who are somehow develop eating disorders or envy other disorders connected with body image. Movie showing how tragic an obsession about begin perfect can be hazardous for a human.

Unexpected, Part 1
Poe Dameron x Stormtrooper!Reader
Summary: You're just an average stormtrooper, known as ZA-6721-- although your friends call you Zay. You're a good, loyal member of the crew aboard the Star Destroyer Colonizer, although you're on the lowest rankings possible-- though you and your notoriously incapable crew are now being given the ultimate opportunity: you're assigned to guard the infamous Poe Dameron, who you may or may not have a bit of a crush on.
This story involves a flustered reader, one hot as fuck superstar Poe, and a bumbling stormtrooper clique where the guys sound like surfers and the girls have Beverly Hills accents-- except for reader, unless you do, and then I can't stop you
A/N: So. I've never done a comedy fic. Most of my stuff is fluffy or serious, there's no in-between. And yes. It was loosely based off of the stormtrooper dancing video after I seen a gif and had to find it: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=video&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwiqo7Tn37_3AhXmg3IEHWxQDeEQtwJ6BAgKEAI&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DiyqfHvoUtkU&usg=AOvVaw0-P4g6wNgJbqw6PkpYI5DO
Warnings: This story is rated 14+ for strong/coarse language, some innuendos, and suggestive themes/references.
______________________________________________________________
"Oh my Maker. You're kriffing joking."
"I am so not, Zay," NI-6720 (Or, Nini) says emphatically, slamming her hands down on the table. "It's totally true. They're bringing him here!" In very un-stormtrooper-like behavior, she unleashes some kind of giggling squeal and kicks her legs under the table to try and let off some excited steam.
"Oh my Maker. Oh my Maker." You say, because apparently just saying it once is too little to express your great amount of sheer elation. Your hands are moving around like a posh woman trying to straighten her gown, but you're in your armor, lessening the effect. Your next words (which aren't different at all from your previous two sentences) come out in a strained wheeze. "Oh my Maker."
The Poe Dameron. The hottest, best pilot in the whole kriffing galaxy, has been captured, and he's being brought to your ship. Well, not yours. The Star Destroyer you work on. The Colonizer. But it's not like that's important. What's important is that you've got his Wanted! 2 million galactic credit bounty! poster hung up in your private dorm. So does Nini. So does your other pal, BZ-6719 (or Beezee)(Of course, you take them down when inspection time comes around, 'cause that'd look bad on your records). Hell, even the boys, KO-6722 (Koka) and LV-6723 (Levy), will admit that he's hotter than a trek through the Sandsea of Tattooine while in full armor!
"Poe Dameron. Is gonna be on this ship."
"I haven't even told you the best part," Nini adds, practically squealing. "All the prison guard squadrons are, like, out of commission or something. So guess what we get to do."
The realization hits you like a blaster hilt to the face. "Oh my Maker. You're kriffing kidding me right now."
"I am so not, Zazy."
You and Nini link hands across the table and together, you unleash a squeal unlike any squeal a fangirl has ever uttered.
So, a bit of backstory: around the Colonizer-- or any ship, or any base, or anywhere the First Order is in the whole galaxy-- you and your squadron (led by Koka) have a reputation. Whether it be sanitation, battle, mechanics, it doesn't matter. Whatever it is...
You can't do it.
Like, at all.
You've been somewhat-officially dubbed the "Klutz Crew." You've blown up whole TIE hangars by accident. You've disabled whole planetary shields and broadcasted the location of a secret base. You somehow managed to flunk getting AT-M6 walkers down to a planet's surface and ended up ending the First Order's campaign there. Captain Phasma herself has put you through rigorous exercises to determine your loyalties, but it turns out you're just idiots.
Okay, so not idiots. You really are trying your best. But you guys are clumsy as fuck and it doesn't matter how hard you try, you're eternally causing problems. Eventually, the Klutz Crew was put on standby, stationed on the Colonizer. You've been ordered to do absolutely nothing except be ready for anything, which means, for you guys, sleeping in, working out, and marching around in your armor like you know what you're doing. You've been living the life.
And now Poe Dameron is being brought here. Your crush-of-crushes. The guy you go on and on about on your private, secret blog on the holonet, about how brave and handsome he is. You have a blog dedicated to solely writing fanfic about the hotshot pilot of the Resistance, ranging from fluff to smut and you give no fucks.
Correction: you gave no fucks.
Now you're giving all the fucks.
Because how the hell are you supposed to be professional and menacing if when you look at him all you're gonna be thinking of is your 6k smutty fic you have yet to finish? Dear Maker.
"Kriffing kriff, Nini," You put your helmeted head in your hands. "What the fuck-- aren't they concerned?"
"About putting their, like, absolute worst stormtroopers in charge of guarding the greatest. Pilot. EVer?" Nini giggles to herself. "Who cares, girlfriend?! We get to see Poe Damn-eron!" She reaches across the table to give you a high-five, which you happily return-- you might be worried about approaching Poe Dameron, but hey, at least you'll get to see him, right?
Nini stands up, dragging you with her. "Come on! We gotta get to cell 5-968 in twenty minutes!"
It isn't a long journey, especially since you two are running and the elevators are in perfect working order. Koka, Levy, and Beezee are already there waiting for you. When she sees you coming, Beezee squeals excitedly, which is continued and amplified by Nini.
"Oh boy..." Koka grumbles.
"Chill," Levy urges, gesturing for the three of you to line up with him and Koka.
Koka straightens up, trying to seem all-important. "Okay guys: this is the chance of a lifetime. We do this right, and we might get promoted. We might go from the 'Klutz Crew' to... Um... Something cool."
Levy shakes a hand, thumb and pinky extended and his three middle fingers folded against his palm. "Hear that? We're gonna get promoted, dudes."
Okay.
Maybe Levy is kind of an idiot.
But you guys love him anyway.
Koka sighs heavily, shaking his head. "I said we might get promoted, Levy."
"Oh. Whoops."
Noise outside of the hall makes all five of you go ram-rod straight, at attention immediately. With thudding metallic footsteps, Captain Phasma herself rounds the corner with a regiment of stormtroopers. Of course, all stormtrooper armor is identical without any outward designation, but the helmet's vision automatically shows identifications above people's heads like a video game.
Hence why Captain Phasma immediately groans, halting in her tracks to address the commanding officer of the Colonizer, who is overseeing the transaction, and who you honestly can't remember the name of. "You're putting those fools in charge of something as important as this?"
The man cowers and yet tries to retain his dignity. You and your crew are watching out of the corners of your eyes, not daring to outright look at them. "Y-yes Captain. Th-they're all we have."
"All you have? On a Star Destroyer this size?" Phasma elicits a low growl of frustration. It's not really up to her: her orders were to bring Dameron here, which has been done, and from there it's all up to the commanding officer of the Colonizer. You've never felt so smug that someone made a stupid decision. "Very well. Just remember that Kylo Ren is watching very closely, Ecklett." Over her shoulder she says, "Bring the prisoner!"
Butterflies swirl in your stomach. Beezee jumps a bit on her heels, then remembers her place when Phasma starts to glance over. Once again, you're all frozen and still as statues. Very still, very professional statues. Unconvinced, Phasma steps aside to allow for the passage of the two stormtroopers holding the legendary pilot by his arms. A bag is over his head, which seems entirely unnecessary to you, but, whatever.
You're too busy internally fangirling. Oh my Maker. That's him. That's Poe Dameron. All my life has led to this very moment. I'm seeing Poe Dameron. Oh Maker. If it weren't for the fact that you'd probably be shot on the spot, you'd have fainted by now just from being in the presence of him. You recognize his trademark leather jacket with the red accents. His dark canvas pants (nice ass, by the way). His kriffing shirt. On his body. In front of you. Right now. It's a dream come true.
He struggles against the stormtroopers restraining him and boy, are you invested like you're watching a nature documentary. You feel like you're witnessing something rare and amazing, like a Zalorian rock-lion or something. In awe, all five of you turn to stare regardless of protocol as he's taken into the cell. The hood is yanked off, and you briefly-- just briefly-- catch a glimpse of his face. It's enough to send shivers up your spine. Good lord.
The stormtroopers depart under Captain Phasma's threatening glare, and she follows after with one final warning to Ecklett, who turns to face you guys with as stern an expression as he can muster. Which, he's short and sickly, so it's pretty hard to be intimidated by him.
"If anything happens," Ecklett warns, "You'd better count on more than just reprogramming! You'll be dishonorably discharged, exiled, banished!"
"All at once?" Koka asks tentatively. "Or is that in order of event?"
"Idiots!" Ecklett cries, and waves a finger in Koka's face. "Heed my warning, you bafoons, else you'll regret it!"
As he storms off, you five are left snickering and sniggering amongst yourselves. "Did he just say 'bafoons'?" Beezee giggles behind her hand.
"Who the hell even says that anymore?" Koka guffaws.
"Ecklett, apparently," Levy answers with a snort. "Alright: who's gonna go in there first?"
"Go in there?" Koka repeats, appalled and mildly interested-- he's always going on and on about how Poe would make a damn good TIE pilot, and you're pretty fucking positive he liked your smutty Poe fanfics on his own secret blog, but he's never outright said anything. He gives a couple of exaggerated scoffs, as if the thought is unthinkable. "We can't go in there."
There's a brief silence until Nini suggests, "Well... um... we, like... should take his gag off at least?"
"...I'll allow that," Koka "relents." "That's cool I guess. But who's gonna do it?" There's more silence when everybody's hands pop up to volunteer. "...Let's draw straws."
"We don't have straws, doofus," You point out.
"Oh. Right. Votes?"
Levy scoffs under his breath. "I dunno 'bout you, dude, but I'm gonna vote for me."
"Why don't you go, Zazy?" Nini suggests, and your heart can't decide if it wants to sink or float.
"M-me?"
"You're our local Dameron expert, man," Levy says, gesturing at you lazily. "Why not?"
"Kriff," You squeak, stunned. You hand Beezee your blaster, taking a deep breath to try and prepare yourself for meeting Poe Dameron face-to-face. Just don't think about smut. It's easy. Just pretend the mere concept of getting railed doesn't exist.
Oh Maker. I'm never gonna survive this.
"Good luck, bestie!"
With a shaking hand, you open the door.
There he is. He's somehow caterpillar-crawled to the hard, cold bench on the other end of the cell, and he turns to look at you with a growl of anger and a couple of muffled curses.
He’s bleeding from a cut on his forehead, and he's honestly pretty banged up. You feel kinda bad for him. Honestly, what did anybody do in this war? Can't we all just be friendly? These thoughts are never voiced outside of your crew. But seeing how Dameron's been beat up puts a knot in your stomach. You glance back at your crew for assurance, and each and every one of them lines up to block the door as it closes, keeping careful watch.
You turn back to face Dameron, who's watching you with those big brown eyes warily. You raise your hands, showing you don't have any weapons. "I'm not gonna hurt you. Promise. Can I come closer? Take your bonds off?"
Reluctantly, he nods, so you hurry up as fast as you can without making any sudden movements, undoing his gag first. He works his perfect jaw as you undo the stuncuffs on his wrists, and then lays there for a second to orient himself. Automatically, you reach for the wound on his head, but his hand snaps out fast as a viper and halts you in your tracks.
You freeze up immediately. Oh my kriffing fuck he's grabbing my wrist. Poe fucking Dameron is grabbing my wrist. Hell he has a tight fucking grip. Then you realize he probably thinks you're gonna do him harm. You try to remedy the situation. "Oh! No-- I'm not gonna hurt you! I-- uh, here--" He stiffly lets go of you so that you can reach into your pocket, and you bring out a medical spray that will help his injuries heal. Feeling the need to show him that it's legit, you pull off your glove, draw your knife and cut your finger, and then spray a little bit on the wound. You look at him hopefully. "See? I told you I'm not gonna hurt you."
He sinks to the floor, completely exhausted. You feel even worse for him now, and over the coarse of several minutes you tend to his wounds with the medical spray. For a brief respite of clear-mindedness, you realize that you're not thinking of him as the superstar of the Resistance, but as an injured man that requires assistance.
Then he talks, and it's all over for you. "What's your name?"
You've never heard a sexier voice. Deep, husky, good Maker, you've been blessed by the universe itself. You elicit some kind of squeaky giggle before you compose yourself and clear your throat. "ZA-6721."
"Huh?"
"Oh. Sorry. That's probably too long. I'm Zay. Zay. Yep."
"Zay-Zay?" Dameron asks in astonishment, and you squeak again.
"Eep. Nope. Just Zay. Or Zazy. It's what my friends call me."
Too late. Dameron's clearly exhausted, and he begins to doze off right on the floor. You'd be lying if you said your heart didn't start racing when he mumbled, "Nice to meet you, Zay-Zay..."
You don't even squeal this time. He looks so sad and alone here, and you wonder what he even did to deserve a beating like this. Awkwardly, you pat the uninjured part of his head. "...I'll bring you some food later, 'k?"
You practically skip out of the room, where your friends are waiting anxiously and immediately bombard you with a slew of questions.
"Well? Did he say anything?"
"Was he, like, as handsome as all his posters?"
"Was he as sexy as everybody says?"
"Dude, was he bleeding?"
Your answer to all of those questions and more is a dreamy sigh. You might as well have heart eyes stuck to the outside of your visor. There's a brief silence before Koka says, "Uh-oh."
Levy reaches over and pokes your helmet, but you only sigh again, in shock. "Dude, they've got it bad."
Beezee says with mock worry, "First-hand exposure to Damn-eron? We'll be lucky if they survive this."
"He misheard me," You sigh, "He called me Zay-Zay."
"Oh boy," Koka grumbles as your friends collectively aw, and you sigh dreamily again.
~~~
"S'up dudes," Levy says as he enters the hallway where you're all positioned. You've been guarding Poe Dameron for three days, and so far, aside from you guys, no one has come calling on him or has been in his cell. You've given him food, water, and have tended his injuries, and he's spoken to all of you kindly-- he's actually quite nice for a renowned criminal-- although you're the only one that's introduced yourself to him.
On one shoulder, Levy carries a boombox.
"Dude." Koka gestures at him in question. "What the hell, man. We have a job to do, man."
"Yeah, but who says we can't celebrate?" Levy challenges as he sets it down, pressing a button; upbeat music starts blasting from it. "We're alone up here, man. Nobody's gonna know."
"Um," Beezee glances nervously at you and Nini. "Like, what are we celebrating...?"
"Our three days of totally handling this," Levy sets his blaster down, and before you know it, everybody's (even Koka's) has joined the pile. You guys line up. Sure, working out and marching around took up a lot of your guys' time before you were assigned to guide Poe Dameron, but you guys had also spent a lot of it perfecting your rad dance routines.
In perfect sync, the five of you dance like you're an average group at a club, laughing and having a grand old time. Except, none of you notice the fact that obviously someone hacked the systems, because the cell door pops open, completely silenced by the bass of your boombox. Your backs are turned when Poe tentatively steps out, eyes widening with surprise when he finds you guys jamming out with surprisingly good moves. He's even a little impressed.
He takes a second to admire you five-- the stormtroopers with hearts and souls of solid gold despite how badly you're treated by everybody else. The doors aren't exactly soundproof; Poe had heard word-for-word the lot of you comforting Nini (although he doesn't know her name) when she'd been hit in the back of the head with the butt of a blaster for no discernible reason other than violence. He hears you talking about how relieved you all are that you haven't seen useless battle yet, that you wish everybody could just be happy. Poe knows that if he presented you five with the right opportunity, you'd join the Resistance without a second thought. Especially you.
He can tell which one you are even out of all the identical stormtrooper armor sets. You're the one that helped him first, that cut your own hand to prove to him that you meant no harm. Zay-Zay.
Poe knows your designation and your given name, but his misheard interpretation of your name stuck. Until he started calling you that, he'd never seen a giddy stormtrooper. It was kind of cute. And then you'd taken off the helmet when he'd asked you to, had had a conversation with him-- mostly, you asked him questions. About the galaxy, about different planets and animals, but nothing about the Resistance. You're curious like a child, with an infectious sort of happiness that always seems to transfer to those around you, him included.
But he's lingered in the doorway too long, because when your little group turns around, you all freeze. Poe swears there's a record scratch as one of you (Levy) trips on the boombox and lands flat on his face, unmoving in the sudden silence. Poe is frozen in the doorway. The rest of you are frozen in mid-move. One of you (Nini) slowly says, "O," enunciating the letter itself, "M," and Poe takes this as his cue to take off-- he knows that none of you will grab your blasters.
"You guys are great. You should become professional dancers, you'd kill." Then he takes off, and the five of you are scrambling to catch him-- well, four of you. Levy's still stunned.
That number dwindles to three as Koka, too eager to catch him, slips on a puddle of oil (caused by Beezee and Levy having a shooting contest down the hall and busting some wiring) and slams into a wall, whereas Poe leapt over it and continued on with a worried glance as Koka stunned himself, falling to the ground in a daze.
Beezee tries to tip-toe around the puddle, but you and Nini leap clear over it and continue to give chase. Nini, however, trips on a mouse droid and sprains her ankle with a cry, leaving only you to catch Poe.
No pressure.
Just when you're a hair's breadth away, you launch yourself toward him, intending to tackle him--
--but you fall short. You land so hard stomach-first that the breath is knocked out of you.
Great. Wonderful. We're going to be exiled. Banished. Reprogrammed. Disposed of.
You hate it here, in the First Order. All of you do. But you've spent your whole lives as faulty stormtroopers. Who would want anything to do with you? Where would you go? And now you're going to be punished for not serving a cause well that you'd never even signed up to join.
At least, Poe escaped before he fell to some twisted torture. An opportunity the five of you will never have. You'd be lying if you said you didn't sniffle a little.
A pair of hands in your vision surprises you, and you're even more surprised when Poe himself helps you to your feet. You stare at him for a second, shocked. He doesn't let go of your hands, allowing you to squeeze them in surprise. "W-what are you--"
Poe gives you an assuring nod and a small smile. "It's alright, Zay-Zay."
You have no idea what the hell he's talking about until he's stunned from behind, dropping like a stone. You try to catch him and ease his fall, which only earns you scoffs of disapproval from your superior officers, dressed all in black.
Over the next couple of days, all five of you are demoted. Poe is interrogated. A new group of stormtroopers arrive to guard him properly. And the five of you enter a gray area of sullen silence when you're told you're going to be sent elsewhere.
Again.
With heavy hearts, you pack your bags and wonder what backwater base you'll be sent to now, what you'll screw up which will have you moving again before you've even unpacked your bags. The poster of Poe Dameron seems haunting now, and you can only hear him saying "It's alright, Zay-Zay." For all you know, those could've been his last coherent words.
You're boarding the tiny transport when you see an officer coming up the ramp out of the corner of your eye. The five of you stand at attention for a minute... until you realize who the officer is.
Clad in the crisp gray uniform and black leather boots and gloves, it's Poe Dameron himself. His wounds and signs of beatings are gone, his hair is freshly-washed, the dark curls slicked back. You and your buddies look at each other in confusion as Commander Poe Dameron jerks his chin at your group. "Guess they don't trust me very much yet. I'm being sent the same place you guys are-- though it'll be nice to have people I know there with me."
As the ramp closes, his hands gravitate to his hips. "I'll be your commanding officer, so I'll need to know your names."
After a moment more of confusion, Koka straightens up again and begins reciting his designation before Poe stops him. "No no-- your names. What do you call each other?"
There's more hesitation between you, until he stammers out in response, "I-I'm Koka. This is Levy, Nini, Beezee, and you know Zay."
Poe Dameron looks upon you with something akin to pride. None of you know it yet, but he's impressed by the humanity of you five, and has already decided to ask you all to join the Resistance.
After he's done with his mission, of course.
Semiotics Analysis assignment
After a lot of research, I came to the conclusion that Ryan Reynolds and most likely some help were the masterminds behind this image. Since Ryan Reynolds is the one who posted it on his twitter, it makes sense. The image was created for the second Deadpool movie. He posted the image December 15th, 2017. The picture is very obviously a reference to the famous painting of God giving life to the first human, Adam, painted by none other than Michelangelo. Deadpool is supposed to represent Adam, while Cable represents God. There are also many goofy Deadpool jokes in this picture, for example, he is on a bean bag. Adam is supposed to be on Earth, not to mention that Deadpool has his finger in the gun. I find that because of both arms, no matter which side you look at, they direct to the next person. So if you look at Deadpool, you will follow his arm to Cable. It has a nice flow. There is also some negative space in the back to contrast and highlight both characters and everything else happening in the image.
The image is analogical because Deadpool and Cable are not literally Adam and God. There is also nothing in the movie that points to them being these figures. It’s also not metaphorical because of the same reasons, Deadpool and Cable are only like them because they are depicted the same in the image.
I believe the key sign in the image is Deadpool with his finger in Cable’s barrel. In the original painting, God is trying to touch Adam's finger because he wants to “give life to him”. Which is a little odd since he looks alive already, nonetheless, how does that correlate with Deadpool? Pistols and other firearms are always supposed to depict death, but here it’s supposed to depict life. I believe that this could be a reference to the end of the movie (sorry for spoilers if you haven’t seen the movie). Cable tries to shoot Firefist, but Deadpool takes the bullet for him while not having his regenerative powers. Everyone thinks he’s dying, but he ends up being alive because Cable went back in time to save him by putting a coin in his breast pocket (where he got shot). I believe this might link to the image because Deadpool has his finger in the barrel as if it will be “stopped”. The image might just be trying to be ironic, but everything has a meaning if you can think of one.
Cable is the signifier because he is the one acting on Deadpool, while Deadpool is being signified because he is the one acted on, and them touching is the sign. If we follow the belief that them touching is an analogy for the end, the message is that Deadpool will be given “life”, signified as Cable saving him. But, there is no subjective message because that objectively happened in the movie, and the image is objectively a reference to the Michelangelo painting.
I’m not even sure if there is supposed to be an actual message or meaning in this picture because there are a lot more references made like this. For example, Deadpool is Bob Ross in another reference made and so on. Nonetheless, I’m a big Deadpool fan so I’m happy I got to dissect an image created for the movie.
For my artist research i will talking about the designer Saul Bass. He a was an American graphic designer and filmmaker, his most active years were during 1954 and 1995. “He worked mostly for advertising until his first major break: a poster for the 1954 film, Carmen Jones” (poulwebb, 2012) Although his designs were mainly about film and posters, he also created film sequences and logo for a well-known mobile service. This first post, was one of his first Hollywood masterpiece. in this ‘Carmen Jones’ poster, Saul Bass used some edgy text in this design and I really like the colour he chose for this poster, they match really well I think the orange really compliments the brown and yellow. The movie is a musical and, in the poster, there are some faint musical notes in the back, this shows that Saul Bass understood the movie and made a poster design related to the movie. The smiley face and bright colours used set a happy mood.
Saul Bass main inspiration was his father who was worked with fur, his work amazed him, he mentioned talking about his father work “What he did that was quite extraordinary was draw flowers and birds. “He did decorative paper cut-outs too. He would take paper, fold it eight, ten, twelve times and then do his little thing with scissors. Then we’d have that grand moment where he unfolded the whole thing and it was just flowers and birds and trees, it was a whole world!” (Chiara et al., pg. 15 2017) Saul Bass would hand draw some sketches and parents would praise his work. Later Saul Bass discovered lettering and “Saul also wondered whether his passion for lettering and a desire to make art out of letters came from his father’s brother, a gravestone cutter who stayed in the old country” (Chiara et al., pg. 15 2017)
When movies were released in the past, they always showed a movie title, however in these titles there was no relation to the movie, what was included was names of actors, directors etc. It was boring, simple and had no emotion. Saul Bass saw this as an opportunity to create his own movie titles. In his movie title he would create little animations that was connected to the storyline. “Part of Saul Bass is genius was to understand what the movie was about and to do the designs for them appropriately” Youtube.com. (2010). it added more emotion to the movie and told a little about what the movie is about without telling too much. “when Saul bass started making prints the credits themselves were part of the film” Youtube.com. (2010). Saul Bass also created posters for the movies, he would try to understand the meaning of the movie then create a graphic illustration for this, he would try and sell the movie to his audience through his poster design. Smith, S. (2014).
The other three images I added are some examples of Saul Bass designs, majority of his designs included some silhouette and colourful backgrounds. Each of his designs tells a little bit about the movie without ruining the plot. The silhouette he used in his illustrations were a unique style this is because it isn’t a clean-cut silhouette like others out there. In this ‘Saint Joan’ poster I really like the background print the most it really stands out and bring the whole poster together.
Saul Bass created his own typography and what I like most about his typographic on the posters is where he places them, for example in these posters I have selected, In the ‘anatomy of a murder’ poster I found it clever and creative how Saul Bass used a silhouette of a corpse and added the text on top of the silhouette instead of making it adding the text right at the bottom like most poster are. Even for his ‘Saint Joan’ poster the text is near to the middle and bottom and the silhouette in at the top. In these posters, Saul Bass poster includes a single geometric style illustration and text which delivers a strong message and keys into a mood. Saul Bass designs were more structured.
ALICE’S RESEARCH: Conspiracies within Television and Film (Part One)
OKAY LADS HERE WE GO!!!!
So a bit of an introduction to my research: The first topic I decided to research was conspiracies within movies. I performed research for both on screen and offscreen (for example marketing) and I found some pretty juicy information. I love a good conspiracy theory, as a lot of you probably know by now, so the idea of me being able to link this into my Historical and Contextual studies is brilliant! Would love to hear your comments and feedback! :)
youtube
Little bit of audio material for you to enjoy whilst you read this research - makes it an immersive experience lads!
Hey what’s up you guys, yes. Welcome back to the blog and today I am going to be talking about conspiracy theories within film and television. These days, conspiracy theories are a major thing - especially when it comes the younger generations. In fact, conspiracy theories (along with memes and clearly a few shots of vodka) are what started the idea and the commencement of the Area 51 Raid. There are so many conspiracy theories spiralling around these days - whether they’re about the government, aliens, the Mandela effect - each conspiracy has it’s own way of shocking those who find out, and they all spark their own debates. My essay in particular will, of course, be focussing on conspiracies within movies and television shows, and the ideology behind them. So, let’s go see them theories - they can’t stop all of us. First of all I’d like to talk about the Headless Women of Hollywood. Posters are a huge part of the marketing process when it comes to advertising and distributing a film. You see them everywhere - whether it be online behind the screen or smack bang in your face on billboards in public. Surely there can’t be any ideology hidden behind posters though, right? Wrong. Take a look at these movie posters here:
Each movie poster has a woman clearly present, and it can be seen that all of these women share multiple things in common. A ‘desirable’ part of their body seems to be centred and in some instances there are men framing the women. However all of these ladies have one major thing in common - and that is the fact that you cannot see their faces. The same thing happens with modelling agencies. When a female model is modelling clothes, a lot of the time the agencies won’t show her face. Why? Because they don’t have to pay her as much money if she’s unidentifiable. So, instead, they just objectify the models. Male stars rarely ever seem to have their heads cut off in movie posters, and this all leads back to the ideology of feminism and sexism. A comedian named Marcia Belsky noticed this and she made her own social media accounts to discuss the subject. An article was made about the subject, and a particular quote from this article caught my attention - “Accompanied by hilarious captions, the post draws attention to how viewers are made to believe that a women’s head – “the first and foremost the thinking part of the human body”, as the website says – is dispensable in a work of art.”. Overall the Headless Women of Hollywood movie posters are taking away the identities of these ladies and objectifying them instead. I will go into much more detail with this in my overall essay. In PART TWO of my research, I will be talking about how suicide and mental health is portrayed as a somewhat positive thing in children’s cartoons that are shown within films and television shows.
In PART THREE of my research, I will be talking about the literal Matrix and how people think we could be living in a simulation. Putting all jokes aside I will link this back to our real life government and how it connects to Plato’s Cave and William Blake.
Poster context
My experience through the Bachelor of Creative Technologies at AUT so far has been thoroughly interesting. From the moment I first discovered the course during an open day I just really felt as if the BCT ‘wanted me’ it called to me in a way, the interdisciplinary learning attracted my attention. I have learned much in the way of communication and teamwork with all of the projects that we have undertaken so far, coming together and collaborating with others has always been something that’s not really the easiest for me being someone who’s quite introverted but the course has forced me out of my comfort zone and I’ve met some genuinely fantastic people, for this I am grateful. Two main themes I’ve observed from this course so far are imagination and social communication, I've observed these as the core functions of every group project, it’s all about coming up with ideas and communicating within a group (Johns, Gary, 1996) get those ideas across and combine them with the suggestions of others. A bold figure who I view as the ‘captain’ of the BCT is Ben, Ben has stood out from the first day of the course. He was there cracking jokes and making us feel comfortable, removing the initial anxiety (Schein, E. H. 1992) . From the first moment I arrived, I immediately felt comfortable in the BCT studio, Ben’s extensive knowledge and interesting background make him a very valuable tutor and I’m glad to have someone who I feel personifies the BCT as its spearhead. I have thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated what the BCT has offered to me so far, I look forward to my future in this course.
Poster Design Progress
Reflection: Taking a different approach
With the given feedback from this week's first studio. I decided that my image-making technique is going to be mainly photomontage/photography. I start collecting some images from Unsplash.com, mainly looking at skies photos. Some sunset, some normal blue skies with clouds.
-> Add cloud shape to the photo that doesn't have cloud. Experimenting with 3D and Material tools to gives the cloud some dimension.
-> Instead of using the image as a whole, I tried cutting out shape as you can see, like cloud outline AND people outline. I used one of the artist that performs at every Head in the Cloud festival "Rich Brian" portrait photo and I traced his portrait outline and clipping mask it with the skies photo. I like how this look so I'm going to add more information such as the date and location of the festival as well as the 88rising photo
-> Photo reference: https://www.google.com/search?q=rich+brian+portrait&sxsrf=APq-WBtGBYDKEfkqJl74uNbfC7xCDYYKEw:1649030146496&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwij8OuAjPn2AhUARmwGHbpbBUwQ_AUoAXoECAEQAw&biw=1440&bih=720&dpr=1#imgrc=XkYB7PesbkfHQM&imgdii=63vH0Mrn4ZgG1M
-> Applying the same form of image making on different skies picture found on unsplash. Also adding the logo, playing around with the colour and contrast.
-> Adding heading. Adding effect to heading so it wraps/curves around the head. Placement of heading and logo.
-> Adding location, date, lineup and extra details such as bevel and emboss on the heading to add shine and dimension. Hand drawn music note, etc. See reference for music note at the bottom of this post.
-> Trying to add more colour but I think I much prefer the simpler colour palette of just blue and white as there will be a lot going on with the heading and extra information on the festival poster.
Some editing and referencing:
-> I noticed that the original photo is a bit dark to my liking and how it contrasts with the black heading -> I can't do a white heading because of the white cloud, the heading might blend into the background so I decided to go with black ->To make the heading stand out from the background image, I brighten the images and alter the contrast of the photo. Here's is a before and after.
Music note
-> I used this image for inspiration and to practise hand drawn my own music note.
his is the second poster I did, felt like this one was a lot clearer than the first one I made. I changed the text font to a more rougher one. Felt like I suited the guitar more as well. I found a picture on google of a guitar when I just googled “guitar wallpaper”. I struggled a bit to get the picture to fit the frame size that I chose, the size is A3, but you can see at the top of it is a white line. So, for the next one I will make I will try to not to get that white one because it ruins the poster. Still is a poster I made for our lecturer´s nephew. Think it´s a fun task to get assigned. I feel like I still go for a more “less is more” theme of the poster that I have made so far. Next time we get assigned doing a poster for someone in the future we might get more detailed assignment of what the “client” wants, so then I would need to get a lot more better and experience more with Adobe Illustrator. There is a video on LinkedIn that is a few hours long, so I should look at that one to get to know the software a lot more.
Okay!
the lovely @ayyyywhasup has asked for a constructive criticism,
EVERYONE THEY ARE NEW HERE! GO CHECK AND SAY HI AND BE NICE!!!!
I’m doing this off from one of the pillar men pic they have drawn! https://ayyyywhasup.tumblr.com/post/172835030682/first-drawing-of-the-pillarbaesno-reference-used#notes
Overall, you have a great sense of anatomy but I would seriously advise on using reference! REF ARE YOUR BEST FRIEND. Many famous artists use reference and if you are willing to invest on it, I think saving up to buy ref books or even phicen doll is worth it
(let me tell you, this doll is like $100 but it saved me so much time and helped me lot. but only get the male dolls, the female proportion is inaccurate https://www.google.com/search?q=phicen+male+doll&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjP0PTH3rPaAhXj24MKHXbOBUMQ_AUICygC&biw=1600&bih=769#imgrc=irHXymnmJG4R8M:)
I like the details you have added to stay true to the pillar men, (like their clothes, because drawing esidisi’s frying pan bra is annoying) if u draw all three of them next time, I suggest giving them a different pose. It’s jojo! Go crazy! if not even slight turn of the body and different angle would add to the variety.
(I’ll be using pillar men to help me out here)
here is a good example
On the first one picture below us, they are turning toward the similar direction, but even in the slight tilt of the head feels different. when ur character stands, especially body language, you want them to tell some kind of story!
esidisi with his arms folded and smirking makes him look like an overconfident warrior. while kars with his palm resting under his chin make him look like the type of character who does most of the thinking compared to other pillar men.
the second example we have here is more like placement theory.
Here again, we have the pillar men with their bodies turn in the same direction. despite the fact that wamuu is simply standing there, the poster looks full and completely? Why?
Because kars and esidisi have action poses! by being more animated than wamuu, kars and esidisi is filling in the gape for wamuu. their more lively poses are making the poster more interesting. if esidisi and wamuu were to trade spot that perfect harmony would fell out of balance.
okay on to the next one.
kudos to you for drawing all the pillar men with undeniably chiseled and beautiful cheekbones! mwah! just lovely~ cause not many people can pull it off easily.
one thing i have noticed about the faces you have drawn is that they all have the same expression. humans are naturally drawn to faces and if all the expression are the same, i can guarantee that viewers would lose interest. i mean, if they are all the same, what’s the point of looking at it?
so i’m gonna use spice dad as an example
Thanks to his hairless brow, Eisidisi always have a permanent scowl on his face. but if you look at the image closely below, his upper lips are higher. showing off his teeth in anger.
we also got this expression
and let’s not forget the golden one
The bottom one here they aren’t making any overly dramatic or crazy expression. it feels calmer, but u can still tell all the pillar men’s individual personality
think of the character’s personality u are drawing and the elements that go with it.
at this point, i would advise on doodling. the color study is great too, but don’t worry about that at the moment. because color tends to overwhelm us at a time.
so grab ur tablet, pick whatever color you want and just doodle!
if you are having a hard time with expression and body language, here is a great challenge you can do!
https://prototypesarmy.deviantart.com/art/Expressions-Challenge-Meme-663835691
And the most important thing is
PLEASE HAVE FUN!!!!
don’t feel pressured or anything, enjoy every process of your growth BECAUSE YOU ARE SO TALENTED!!!
I want to see u grow in your art and prosper! u have great potential!! (because even though u didn’t use ref, it’s very impressive!)
if u have any more question or want any other pieces of advice, please ask!!!
Week 5: History of Design
Design, as I’ve said before, surrounds us. For this week’s reading, I have found a few comparisons between the pieces I read about and the things I have near myself daily.
This is the movie poster from the 1927 film Metropolis. It was drawn by Heinz Schulz-Neudamm.
[Citation: https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FMetropolis_(1927_film)&psig=AOvVaw1Ewg4t_5cfJfOKCBTtqGrM&ust=1601794927989000&source=images&cd=vfe&ved=0CAIQjRxqFwoTCMjB0KDtl-wCFQAAAAAdAAAAABAD ]
The Metropolis poster reminded me of a shelf that I have up in my room, pictured here:
So what do these two have in common design-wise? Now, there are three things that really made me connect these two pieces. The first thing was, of course, the color choice. Both are a similar dark gold, a color that you don’t see often, which is why it initially drew my eye. The next connection I made was the similar shape choice. Both pieces rely heavily on very geometric, diamond-centered design concepts. In the poster, the diamond shape is not explicit, but the use of 3D perspective for the city buildings gives the viewer a diamond-shaped implied line. As for my shelf, the diamond shape is quite obvious. There are also many instances of using straight lines in these designs. The shelf has three horizontal lines going through it. The poster for Metropolis has both multiple lines coming from the robot on the bottom and lines coming from the skyline at the top of the image. Both of these pieces have very geometric vibes to them. Lastly, the other thing that connects these pieces are their industrial feel. In the case of my shelf, the use of material (some kind of metal) gives off the impression of a very industrial, metallic, factory-esque piece. For the Metropolis poster, this is accomplished through not only the focal point of the robot on the bottom, but also the blocky, geometric repetition of both building shapes and lines cutting through it, almost like a city made of building blocks.
This is the Wassily Chair, originally created by Marcel Breuer.
[Citation: https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.smow.com%2Fdesigners%2Fmarcel-breuer%2Fwassily-chair-bauhaus-edition.html&psig=AOvVaw3JTtmdpxUqJrlUI7VA9e6j&ust=1601795137907000&source=images&cd=vfe&ved=0CAIQjRxqFwoTCOjk8ITul-wCFQAAAAAdAAAAABAS ]
Now, perhaps a bit more on the obvious side are the similarities between Breuer’s Wassily Chair and the chairs that you’ll find at any high school/college.
[Citation: https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.schoolsin.com%2Fvir-3014.html&psig=AOvVaw1PWNUmKVPx_J947lPVnUAR&ust=1601848790102000&source=images&cd=vfe&ved=0CAIQjRxqFwoTCPDMhvS1mewCFQAAAAAdAAAAABAE ]
What I would like to focus on for this comparison is the choice of materials. In that, I mean the choice to leave said materials as they are and present them as is. For Breuer’s chair, he was the pioneer of displaying a material in its unadulterated form. For this chair, he chose to leave the metal exposed, not covering it, not changing its color, not changing its form drastically, etc. This has been vastly influential on chairs that are mass produced today. The chair I chose to include above is just one type of many that you could see at every single high school and college classroom. That look of untouched metal is seen throughout chairs all over the world.
This the piece Beat the Whites with the Red Wedge, originally done by El Lissitzky.
[Citation: https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.dailyartmagazine.com%2Fbeat-the-whites-with-the-red-wedge%2F&psig=AOvVaw1BIVvSfp-qFyOhaqW5ez0c&ust=1601846390938000&source=images&cd=vfe&ved=0CAIQjRxqFwoTCLi1v_ysmewCFQAAAAAdAAAAABAD ]
As for Beat the Whites with the Red Wedge, it instantly reminded me of a poster I got from a Jack Johnson concert.
Both of these designs are very simplified versions of what they mean to represent. In Lissitsky’s piece, the red triangle is supposed to represent the Bolsheviks, defeating their opponent, the white circle, aka the White Movement. Now, Lissitsky’s artistic choice to design the poster with abstract shapes instead of deciding to simplify the figures into still recognizable shapes differs slightly from Jack Johnson’s poster, but the aesthetic of the end result is incredibly similar. Jack Johnson’s poster is composed of shapes that are almost abstract, but the viewer can still identify them as representational forms of things such as waves, sailboats, etc. However, there are still a few random geometric figures thrown in, aiding to the feeling of abstraction. Not only do the posters both offer up geometric similarities, the typefaces are also similar; they appear to be some sans serif font.
As I said before, design is everywhere. It has repeated itself throughout history, and it continues to inspire and replicate itself in designs today.
In Motion Project Proposal
My initial idea is to design a logo which is going to be supported by a poster for an online retail company “Unicor Solutions”. The company deals with cosmetic products, for both genders, and its ambition is to provide for those with less disposable incomes, good quality and affordable products. For the logo and poster to effectively reflect the brand identity, it has to come across as warm and inviting. For the development of the designs, I will examine various existing designs from Tom Geismer; looking for what visual aspects have been used, were successful and identifying ways in which it can be implemented into my design development.
In order to achieve the time-based element, I’ve given rigorous attention to my planning process. My first step is to analyse the brief and examine the requirements for the project. After getting an accurate understanding of what the brief requires me to accomplish, I then look for inspiration from existing designs and artists which are linked to my concept idea. I will then select which artist is most suitable to my concept idea, and then undertake deeper research on the artist, analysing their design work and researching context behind the designer. This research will help to develop my idea, due to the investigation of visual aspects found in existing designs. Additionally, to achieve the best outcome possible, primary research is essential. I will dedicate a day where I will go out and examine logos and posters in my local town. After I’ve gathered a substantial amount of research I will start the design process. I will undergo a series of experiments, considering which shape, form and colour are optimum. The skills I posses so far will enable me to confidently complete the designs, however, my Illustrator skills are better than my Photoshop, therefore I’m going to develop a poster which will enhance my skills in that area. To ensure that these steps are completed I will create a week by week plan, which I can use to monitor my progress.
To ensure the best outcome for my design, and I will receive regular feedback from peers who will critically examine the design, with the aim to identify any limitations. During the conclusion of the project, I’m going to critically evaluate my design, and discuss areas which I found challenging. I will be using blog posts to record my progression and decision making.
AX3002: Animation Production and Professional Awareness(May)
29/04-03/05
the last scene and poster making
I drew the background of the last scene this Wednesday and finished the last scene in after effect. also, I did a sea wave in the scene of the beach. I hide the wave layers under a 60% transparency layer.
the wave is composited by different colors, it looks like a cartoon style wave. it used to show the sea is not motionless. so I don’t need it to be presented on the top layer.
the last scene of the courtyard. it is also necessary for flowing water. I use the tool to control points in after effect, so I only need to keyframes on these points to let it move.
because next week I need to submit the poster and book, so I start to do works about these. I am not good at designing a poster. I look for some animation film poster example. (https://www.google.com/search?q=animation+film+posters&safe=active&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwidwcTs-obiAhXXRRUIHRGsDv8Q_AUIDigB&biw=1858&bih=1007) I found I do not have a suitable background to make the poster. I use the first stone, the smooth stone and eagle model to become elements of the poster. however, it still has too much space.
and the background color is not the best choice.so I want to ask for some advice from tutors next week. about the book, I have added most of the elements. there are still some problems with the layout and presentation. I will finish it next Tuesday. I will focus on doing my film. there are only two weeks.
06/05-10/05
finish the poster and book
I tried many ways to layout the poster, however, they cannot make me satisfied. I decided to use the background of a waterfall in my film to be the underground picture of my poster. I want my bird model can be a part of my poster, I tried a flying position, but it looked not good .because the main character in my film is the stone. if I use the flying bird, it must occupy too much space even it is not 100% opacity. so I thought I could make it stand on the title, it could be smaller. and also the change in my stone should be demonstrated. so at least I need to present these two stones’ model. although my first idea was left the stone on a stone wall, it looked very wired. I tried to use a layer mask. but it is still not good. so the following picture is the final poster.
about the book, the reference books are from the blackboard. I can know what to put in the book. because at this point, I haven’t started to edit. so I pass this part.
about my film. I searched for many videos online, I want to make the flowing water looks more natural. so I found a way to use the input AE script which is called mir script to do the water effects. it helps me to finish the water effects faster. but l didn’t change all the shots with flowing water in mir. I also used this script to do the water.
https://www.bilibili.com/video/av11374094/(link for one way to use mir)
this script only has 14-days free trial.
13/05-17/05
I was editing the sound SFX and background music and monologue this week. all the sounds are from a Chinese resource website( www.aigei.com)
all the sounds are done in Premiere Pro. and I sent two versions of background music to PETE and got the notes.
0.42 smile sound....can be repeated at the end when the stone is happy 0.47...inner ...lets go! be louder 1.14 need angry sound 1.50 louder and struggle sounds needed 2.02 need sound as he hit rocks...ping ping ping 2.10 knocking sound is odd...distracts...what is it? time lapse ...could be village voices then sound of a loud city...you decide
2.32 an OH Great sound...as in happy...though not as happy as at the end 2.44...what is that sound? stone is happy? footsteps bit earlier...so stone sounds concerned
...happy sound at the end , same as at 0.42 but longer and louder
so I adjust some audio or delete some unsuitable parts or record some new sound.
about the transition, I don’t think I need many transitions between every two shots. some shots are in the same scene, so I think the transition could be used in the change of different scenes. so I only use two or three transitions in my film. and about the rendering. I rendered it about four times because of the sound.
