ive been rping on tumblr since i was uhhhh 14-ish, so literally half of my life at this point, jesus christ. before that i was rping over yahoo instant messenger and skype and ff.net forums. i was in [redacted] before isola, and ive specifically been rping vash on and off in both groups. i live in korea which is why im typically not active at the same time as most folks unless i decide to waste company time, which, lol. i teach little kids and i love them but also the boss makes a dollar i make a dime so i write yaoi on company time

i like viddy games and reading, so if im not writing im usually doing either one of those things. i like horror movies even though im a huge baby and im unfortunately turning into my father in the way that i unironically also like westerns now. i cant play any sports but i'll go a little bit crazy about college basketball. i prefer savory foods like soups but when my sweet tooth rears its head i'll easily make myself sick. i like coffee and aesthetic cafes and fashion, but ive been kinda lazy on that last one for a while now. im getting married [ ah???????????????!!!!!!!?????????? ] in the fall, which is really fucking weird

Okay, browsing another fandom-tag, (the thing I am newly becoming RE-obsessed with, my longstanding decades old fandom re-emerging due to shiny new material)... well... I found something that made me think of THIS fandom and how ridiculous it is sometimes and how ridiculous fandom can be about certain things.   Take a look at this reblogged image on my other sideblog: Classic Trigun Official Art.   Its kind of spoilery for those who haven’t seen the 1998 original anime series, but it’s non-canonical at, anyway.  At least, I think it’s non-canon art.  However, it is official, as in, it’s not canon art / not an image from the actual anime, but it is promotional, a kind of post-series funsies thing done by crew.   The pale-haired guy in the space-suit there?  The one who’s got the smiling spiky-haired guy’s arm wrapped around him?  He’s the series’ main villain.  He’s also a genocidal maniac with a deep hated of humanity who has murdered millions of people.  He of course is here, in this funsie official / adjacent art shown in the trope of a “reforming villain” with heroic-characters including the main (Vash with his arm arround him - twin brother) gladly hanging out with him.  Anyway, my point is that - hey, look at the actual official although non-canonical art of the “defanged villain” trope - done for fun, to show a villain being begrudgingly good / implied to be on his way to reformation post series, etc.  Silly promo / bonus art.   It made me think about how She-Ra fandom had the Catra vs. Hordak wars and how some people / factions were just AGAHST at the idea that some of us fan-critters loved to contemplate redemption arcs and do fanart and fanfic that defanged the villains and so forth.  While people don’t seem to mind it much for Horde Prime - people doing sexy or silly fanart with him to scratch that itch for a “defanged dark lord” fun time, people got really bent out of shape for a while for both Hordak and Catra, didn’t they?  In the Hordak fan-faction (hi there, where I make my bed, or my clone-pod, as it were) there were a lot of people who hated Catra, thought of her as taking time away from their blorbo and who considered her “too toxic” for Adora and made this big honking serious deal out of it.  Fanfics about Catra fucking off to the Crirmson Waste alone and whatnot... I actually don’t mind pairing Adora with other people, it’s just that some of the “Catra cannot be redeeeeeemed!” stuff got a little obnoxious for me, even though I, myself, got sick and fucking tired of overzealous Catra-stans calling me a genocidal colonist for liking Hordak.   And of course, um, Hordak.  A villain portrayed with some sympathy and human emotions, despite being an actual dictator trying to conquer a planet. Yeah, Hordak’s done a lot of fucked up things, like employing torture and execution-by-exile in his reign.  I like him, anyway, because of those sympathetic points - the clone-cult stuff, the sense that he has a desire to be wanted and loved despite everything (thank you, Entrapta).  And, well, I LOVE the idea of post-canon, of “Lets let him live a cute domestic life with Entapta and lets dress him in sweaters and have him discover how delicious mangoes are, the poor cult-denied big fruit bat!”   And, well, there was a big row among people about liking these characters, something of a sympathy-contest of who “deserves more sympathy” and whatnot.  I was sitting here the whole time going “Let me enjoy my defanged dark lord trope in peace.”   Meanwhile, back in my old fandom, which I have returned to... it’s like “Oh, yeah, there’s official art of the actual literal genocidal maniac who canonically has a very graphic 100K+ body count being domesticated by the good guys, not to mention what the fandom does and the thirst some fans have for this guy”  and it’s like.... “Whoa, anime fandoms just be more chill than American cartoon fandoms, don’t they?”    No one accuses you of wanting to erase humanity because you enjoy Millions Knives, so why do people accuse you of being a real life abuser or colonial apologist if you enjoy Catra or Hordak?

ok ok ok daemons are such an interesting thing to me bc they're not a separate person. your daemon is YOU. but it isn't just your soul or your conscience or your subconscious it's the bit of opposite of you that exists in all humans given form. hence the animal shape and the fact that all* daemons are the opposite gender from their respective person. HDM actually never clarifies completely how they work/what they are, but it does establish some key facts that this Fic plays with which i Love.

daemons have a maximum distance they can be from their person. for humans that max distance is pretty low

daemons know inherently that they're part of somebody they don't have to be told that

touching other people's daemons is really fucking weird. like. imagine touching somebody's soul with your bare hands. or reaching into their braincase. yeah it's fucking weird and physically uncomfortable for both parties

that being said daemons can and will touch other daemons all the time bc they're on the same plane of existence and that's normal.

daemon severance is akin to a lobotomy. like you can do it but a) it releases a lot of very explosive energy and is therefore dangerous; b) if you do it on children the daemon becomes basically an animal and the child is just kind of an empty husk and both of them die soon after; c) if you do it to an adult it's basically a giant lobotomy. straight up

you can't take daemons into the land of the dead. normally living people don't go into the land of the dead, and daemons are the most alive part of you, so dying kills them instantly (they dissolve into gold dust). HDM has an example wherein lyra goes into the land of the dead and pan is literally pulled away from her. they both survive but it fundamentally changes them into more of a witchlike, wherein pan can go very very far away from lyra safely. (this also happens to will, but people from non-daemon worlds don't have exterior daemons†)

this Fic plays with this stuff particularly about vash and nai and it fits so damn well. it posits that vash IS nai's daemon, which makes him already break two rules: same gender and not critter. it also posits that he's way more independent to the point that he doesn't even realize he's a daemon. in fact neither of them do at first but then nai gets it and causes the big fall bc everyone won't stop fucking with his daemon, which if they were human would have Not Happened. it ALSO posits that vash separated himself from nai which is simply INSANE to think of Until you remember that plants are much more powerful than humans. it's literally the same as how a cube is to a line they're a whole pair of dimensions higher why shouldn't their daemons be whole human-level people on their own??

what's really killing me is NONE of the main crew have figured it out as of ch4 even tho literally their daemons are all snuggling vash ALL the TIME just like they do with each other and it doesn't feel weird to them bc it's daemon/daemon interaction as opposed to daemon/person interaction which-- AHHHHHHHHHHH. and bc he separated himself from nai but only partially (much like a witch) he clings to other daemons, literally withering without them, and also possibly acts as a daemon for bulbed plants (hence his ability to heal them) which drives me BATTY!!!!! /POS

*- independent plants in this au seem to all have same gender daemons unlike literally everyone else in hdm. hdm doesn't include nonbinary/trans characters so there's no stated explanation of how daemon gender would correspond to that unfortunately. whatever you think works works imo

†- everyone has the part of their being that makes them alive + a person. if you're from a world without daemons you can be taught to see your daemon, but not everyone does that or knows to do that. also in some cases your daemon simply shows up upon entering a world with daemons. the exact reasoning of what determines that is also not stated in canon

AAHAHAHHHHHHAHHAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH i found a trigun fic that's a daemon AU, as in from his dark materials, and it immediately was like what if independents' daemons are actually in the form of other independents. and nai is vash's daemon. btw a daemon is like, a physical and separate manifestation of like the glue between your heart/mind/soul/body, and also a secondary subconscious brought to the surface. pre-puberty they change form, and solidify into one form during puberty. they're typically animals but this fic is literally driving me up the wall and im barely a third into the first chapter i'll link it later

But alright, lemme see...

1. My pets. I guess I could just list all my pets as 1-4 but that would be cheating. I adore my critters, they’re my life and I’d do anything to make sure they’re happy and healthy! I wouldn’t still be alive right now if it weren’t for my oldest cat Vash, he’s deeply empathic and will seek me out when I’m crying just to comfort me. I recently lost one of my pets, Kuro, my youngest cat to cancer (fuck cancer) and Vash has been working overtime to make sure my Dad and I are loved.

2. Garlic fries. Silly but fuuuuck I love garlic fries. Plain fries I’m meh about, and the best place to get fries if you ask me is Smashburger.

3. Pacific Rim and Godzilla (just the first) I deal with depression and sometimes it sneaks up on me and just kicks my ass... my go-to movies for comfort are these two movies (and King of the Monsters). Really I just adore monster movies in general but these two hold a special place in my heart.

4. Video Games. I’ve been playing video games since I was old enough to hold a joystick (back then they were actually stick-shaped). They’ve been a huge part of my life and these days I get my socialization via playing MMORPGs (currently playing Final Fantasy 14). I’m agoraphobic so being able to socialize without physically leaving the house is a must.

5. Friends and family. I have 2 really close real-life friends and I still live with my father, I’m also close with my brothers and though my relationship with my mother can be antagonistic (she is sometimes abusive) they’re all very important to me.
