Valontuoja, meaning "Bringer of Light" in Finnish, is the one-man black metal entity forged in the icy depths of Helsinki by the Jal'zoroth. Formed in 2024, Valontuoja channels the primordial essence of black metal, weaving a sonic tapestry that is both ferocious and hauntingly melodic. Valontuoja's soundscape is a maelstrom of raw, unyielding black metal fused with ethereal and melodic elements. Valontuoja conjures an atmosphere that is as brutal as it is beautiful, guiding listeners through the desolate realms of human despair and nature's unforgiving majesty.

LÄHTÖ Suutarilan lampputehdas valmistaa Suomen viimeiset hehkulamput. Pian tämä on historiaa.

Timo Haatainen, 63, tietää taatusti paremmin kuin kukaan suomalainen, miten hyvä lamppu valmistetaan. Keväällä tulee kuluneeksi peräti 43 vuotta siitä, kun hän tarttui Airamin tehtaalla ensimmäisiin hehkulampun kantoihin.

Nyt miehen työura päättyy – ja samalla Airamin hehkulampputuotanto Suutarilan Lampputiellä loppuu. Tehdas on lajissaan koko maan viimeinen. Nyt työntekijöitä on Timon lisäksi kaksi.

– Silloin 1970-luvulla touhu oli aivan toisenlaista, sillä tehdasrakennuksia oli useita ja työntekijöitä toistatuhatta, Haatainen muistelee.

Hehkulampun langoittaminen on äärimmäisen tarkkaa käsityötä. Tätä tehdään vain kaksi tuntia kerrallaan. (Kuva: Päivi Tuovinen)

– Hehkulampun valmistuksessa ehkä kaikkein vaativinta on langoitus. Jos lanka ei kestä, ei lampullakaan mitään tee.

Äärimmäistä tarkkuutta vaativa hehkulamppujen langoitus on arkipäivää vantaalaiselle Kiangkorn Thapuille: hän liittää lampun elektrodeihin kierukat ja hehkulangat yhteen taitavasti. Kahdessa tunnissa Thapuin käsistä valmistuu satakunta lamppua.

– Tässä pitää olla huolellinen, mutta minä tykkään tästä. Olen tehnyt tätä jo seitsemän vuotta.

Leväperäisyys kostautuisi varsin pian, sillä valmiit lamput testataan useissa eri testeissä – pelkästään lampun lasin paksuuden tulee olla tietyn vaihteluvälin sisällä. Testaus tehdään koneilla, jollaisia ei enää valmisteta missään.

Lampputuotanto Suutarilassa on nyt erikoistuotteiden varassa, sillä tavallisten hehkulamppujen valmistus kiellettiin koko Euroopan unionin alueella jo syksyllä 2012.

Jatkoa seuraa, sillä myös halogeenilamppujen tekeminen kielletään syksyllä 2018.

– Tämä tehdas on ollut jo pitkään oikeastaan jatkoajalla, sillä tuotantotekniikka on vuosien saatossa auttamatta vanhentunut, kertoo työnjohtaja Juha Setälä.

– Yksi merkittävä asia on se, että täällä on sellaisia koneita, joita eivät osaa käyttää muut kuin Haataisen Timo. Eli periaatteessa tehdas pitää sulkea, kun Timo jää eläkkeelle.

Menneisyyden valontuoja on nyt kielletty kapine: hehkulamppuja saa Suomessa valmistaa enää vain erikoistarkoituksiin. (Kuva: Päivi Tuovinen)

Nyt Suutarilassa valmistuu erikoislamppuja muun muassa VR:n opastimiin ja Lontoon metroon. Jos kuljet Lontoossa vaaleansinistä Victoria Linea pitkin, metrojunien kulkua ohjaavat juuri Suutarilassa tehdyt lamput.

Vähitellen Airam on siirtänyt toimintojaan Keravan logistiikkakeskukseen, missä vallitsevat valonlähteet ovat ledejä.

– Suunta tällä alalla on ilman muuta se, että ledien tehokkuudet ovat kaiken aikaa nousseet samalla kun hinnat ovat pudonneet alas. Nyt ledit ovat jo erittäin kestäviä, toteaa Airam Electricin toimitusjohtaja Robert Paajanen.

Kiangkorn Thapui ja Timo Haatainen ovat lampputehtaan viimeiset työntekijät. Haatainen ehti uurastaa Airamin leivissä yli 40 vuotta.

Helsinkiläinen Arja Peippo on tehnyt lamppuja samassa rakennuksessa jo kymmenkunta vuotta.

– Sukitus, langoitus ja ajo ovat kyllä tulleet vuosien varrella tutuksi. Tietenkin pitää olla tarkkana, sillä osia liitetään yhteen kaasuliekillä satojen asteiden lämmössä, Peippo korostaa.

Hän itse ei vielä ole siirtynyt oman kotinsa valaistuksessa ledien käyttäjäksi.

– Kyllä täytyy sanoa, että vanhan ajan hehkulampuissa on oma tunnelmansa. Minä pidän niiden valosta, Peippo pohtii ja sulkee sukituskoneen.

Ulkona alkaa hämärtää. Kuukauden kuluttua lampputehtaasta sammuu viimeinenkin valo.

Aika loppuu. Airamin lampputehdas Helsingin Suutarilassa suljetaan vuodenvaihteessa.

i've been thinking about it! did katara ever offer to heal him again? what if they tried and it didn't work and first zuko is a bit devastated but then remembers that his past and what was done to him doesn't define him.

also did the other ever learn how he got his scar?????? but you know happier things: zuko learning to accept himself how he is and healing from his abuse and not feeling shame because of it

i can reply to both at once, it's cool! i like to think that katara didn't offer again until they were a bit older and zuko just flat-out refused and didn't even want to try but idk haha

and no he never told them during the show! this has kept me awake at night wondering how it would go down tbh. it's always so sad but i love the idea of zuko trusting them enough to tell them ahh. and yes!!!! self-acceptance from zuko is so important i loVE

definitely ruby, i love abaddon as a big bad-style villain but i think ruby was a much more nuanced character and i love the long con that she pulled and the fact that she kept everyone guessing as to her motivations almost right to the very end of her arc

Hi! I really liked your meta on tos!kirk and aos!kirk and just wanted to comment on it, if I may. I think tos!kirk and aos!kirk are very much the same but they both are a product of their times and ideals and hegemonic masculinities of their times. One type of common modern male protagonist is the rebel who doesn't play by the rules but turns out to be right and a good, though a bit unorthodox, leader. (and also tos!kirk did cheat on kobayashi maru so i don't think jj took too much liberties)

i completely 100% agree with that. (that’s kind of what i was getting at, but again, you said it much better than me!) 

i’ve thought this before- and bear with me because i’m watching orphan black right now- it’s a kind of nature vs. nurture thing. i think aos! and tos!kirk would be pretty much exactly the same had they had the same upbringing/hardships/etc. (i actually think jj&co did a pretty good job with that). um example i guess being, they both cheated on the km, but aos!kirk was more funny/carefree/show off-y about it (??? correct me if i’m wrong there, i haven’t gotten to tos!kirk’s km yet)

(and connecting with what we were talking about before, that’s why aos!kirk would be viewed as more “childish" (????) than tos!kirk, even though jj&co really just give him traits more commonly found in today’s heroes)
