Tóm lược nội dung anime Strike The Blood

Strike The Blood là câu chuyện xoay quanh một cậu bé có tên là Kojo Akatsuki, cậu được coi là “thuỷ tổ đời thứ tư” – một ma cà rồng mạnh nhất trên thế giới có khả năng triệu hồi những ma thú cực mạnh đang sống trên một thành phố nổi hiện đại, nơi mà các chủng tộc và sinh vật huyền thoại cùng sống hòa bình với con người. Cùng khi đó, xuất hiện một cô gái tên là Yukina Himeragi có khả năng chiến đấu rất giỏi với vũ khí là giáo, cô được giao nhiệm vụ canh chừng ma cà rồng và nếu cần, bắn hạ cậu ấy bất cứ lúc nào. Trong Strike The Blood SS1, những sự việc kỳ lạ trên biển khiến đảo Itogami trở nên bị cô lập. Một nhóm khủng bố được gọi là Tartarus Lapse bắt đầu hoạt động trên đảo.

Qua Strike The Blood SS2, những kẻ khủng bố mở một cuộc tấn công vào khu nhà kho. Sau đó, Kojo và Himeragi gặp thủ lĩnh khủng bố, Senga Takehito, kẻ đang cố gắng chiêu mộ họ. My reaction when Isara died: *feels a slight punch to the gut* Oh... that’s so sad. Well, let’s move on. 

My reaction when Selvaria died: *full on tears streaming, red eyes, mucous from nose, bawling like a little bitch, kneeling on the floor beating the ground and screaming* WHY MUST THE GOOD DIE YOUNG?!?!?!

No, seriously. Her chapter may have been a mess (but it’s VC, aren’t they all?), and involved mostly running for cover behind buildings and throwing smokescreens in her face just to get anything done, but DAMN. We may have lost General Vaddai in the blast, and he most certainly deserved it... but losing him means nothing if it meant losing Selvaria too. And even until the end, even at the VERY END. She STILL loves Maxie. She STILL says his name on her lips as her last words... EVEN after all the shit he’s done. 

What makes this whole situation even worse is that the game heavily implies that Alicia and Selvaria are sisters. I mean, come on, they’re both Valkyrias, both estranged from their parents, Alicia claimed she was dropped on an orphanage doorstop, and they even LOOK alike. Give Selvaria red hair and brown eyes and tell me you don’t see the resemblance. But they NEVER explore this or find this out. And if they really are sisters, that gives an even worse angle to this whole situation: 

Selvaria fell in love with her boss and he turned out to be a total POS. Alicia fell in love with her boss and he was a good guy who loved her back. 

Alicia got to have a relatively normal childhood and just got her Valkyria powers by chance. Selvaria was an abused, tortured lab rat who nearly killed herself to get her powers. 

Alicia is a talented baker without really trying. Selvaria had a passion for cooking but is terrible at it. 

Squad 7 treated Alicia like a friend and equal for the most part and even in the orphanage Alicia was well liked. Selvaria was either hated and feared because of her powers, or pitied and mocked because of her love for Maxie. 

Selvaria’s ONLY positive over Alicia is her height and bust size, and that’s basically a pity prize at this point. Her younger sister has literally EVERYTHING she wished she had and went through only a fraction of her older sister’s suffering to get it. I’d make a Cain and Abel joke, but I’m way too depressed to do that. 

And BOY IF I WASN’T MAD AT MAXIE BEFORE. “Selvaria has done her duty-” DUTY?!?! DUTY?!?! *devolves into anguished screaming gibberish before taking a deep breath to calm down* I am ITCHING for the final chapter right now. When I put a bullet between those beady soulless eyes of his, oh it’s going to feel SO GOOD. Revenge is a dish that is best served cold and he’s going to get a heaping pile of it. 

RIP Selvaria aka Chamchi (although at this point I’m not comfortable calling her that again even in jest), Isara didn’t get an epitaph, but you will: 

I thought you were just a standard yandere henchwoman who becomes the real final boss, but you turned out to be much more than that. The more I saw, the more I realised that you weren’t what you seemed. 

It came to a point where Squad 7 didn’t matter anymore. It was you who I was rooting for. It was your story that moved me the most, and one I wanted to see to the end. 

The worst part of all this is you didn’t have to die. It didn’t have to be this way if someone showed you the right path. If someone told you that Maxie was not worth your love, devotion, or time. If you decided to find someone or something else that is. 

I don’t even think the writers expected you to be this well-liked, otherwise you would have had a bigger role in the story. Otherwise, maybe you would have realised your relationship with Alicia. You may have reconciled, even defected to Squad 7 temporarily to get your revenge. Then gone off to find your own purpose. 

You became my actual favourite character in the game. No, one of my favourite characters period. And one to whom I relate to an uncomfortable degree. 

Your boss fights may have made me want to break my Switch, but you will truly and genuinely be missed. 

I started playing Valkyria Chronicles and idk if this somehow means I’m bad at games that aren’t Fire Emblem or Pokemon, that I really need to get used to the gameplay, or if this game really is hard but...

I don’t think I should be struggling this badly on the first few chapters. Like in the Bhrul section where the tank comes I was like “WTF?! Where do I go????” and couldn’t read the map and was dying several times. I had several characters die during a skirmish on easy mode and had to restart. And during the bridge mission I made a mistake of putting an engineer on the river side (the captain lady told me to!!!) and then my lancer guy ran out of ammo when the tank came.

It’s strange because even when I was new to Fire Emblem I got into the swing of things very quickly. But here I found myself actually intently listening to the tutorials like a classroom lecture. I actually had to pause several times to grasp what I was being told. There were even times when I didn’t understand before and restarted just to hear it again.

I love how the continent is just Europe but with magic minerals and this whole conflict is just fantasy WW2. The strategy here is more intelligent than Fire Emblem also I think because it’s more modern and you have machines, etc instead of just swords and magic.

The dubbing is FANTASTIC. I think after being used to the current style of “just like the Japanese” or “let’s put 2010s american political references in for no reason” dubbing stuff like this is a breath of fresh air. I’ve noticed video game dubs are still awesome but anime dubs began going bad after 2016.

But there’s that one gay character in the game who hasn’t aged well AT ALL. Like he basically has that “what straight people think gay people sound like” voice - think the Office Homophobe skit by Key and Peele. It’s so jarring especially after Fire Emblem which has Leon who is more realistic.

But the story is where this game really shines. I expected a walking cliche storm but I was pleasantly surprised.

The main characters are in their 20s and 30s instead of dumbass teenagers. There are dumbass teenage characters but they’re all supporting cast and it’s lampshaded that they’re kids.

When I first saw Alicia think Welkin was a spy I was like “oh great another tsundere who is going to have an antagonistic relationship with the hero until the end.” But I was pleasantly surprised when she not only ISNT a tsundere she also *gasp* said sorry and had a friendly relationship after and immediately started working together. Now when they eventually become a couple it’s ACTUALLY going to feel good.

I thought the adopted sister was going to die in the beginning because that’s usually what happens in these stories, but she not only lives at the end, she also kicks ass in her own right.

I also love how the lancer guy and Rosie aren’t pure and wholesome even though they’re the good guys. They’re racist towards the adopted sister and get mad when the nosy journalist harassed Welkin for an interview which gives some complexity to the heroes side.

I noticed there was a character called Aisha and thinking “why does she look and talk like a kid” and checked her bio. *John Mulaney voice* There... is a 12 YEAR OLD in my army! No! No! Child please go to the bench and stay there forever I don’t care how high your stats are! I am NOT putting a child on the front lines!! There’s a reason why I never used Ricken in FE Awakening and it’s the same reason why I never will use you!

The captain lady is my favourite character hands down. She kind of reminds me of Professor Mcgonnagal but younger and less sarcastic. I think she’s the reason why I didn’t get bored to death when listening to the tutorial (She should get her own side game?? Screw Welkin I want to know more about her!). I genuinely felt sad for her when that army guy came in and started putting her down (and also wanted to kick his teeth in), and when she was upset about the mission. If some kind of twist happens and she turns out to be a bad guy or dies my heart will legit break.

Also why does her bio highlight that she’s 35 and unmarried? Considering her personality, looks, voice, and accomplishments I find it VERY hard to believe that nobody took an interest in her. I imagine after the war so many men and women will be tripping over themselves trying to get with her.

Why do the parts featuring the Imps feel like an entirely different show?! They show Maxie’s brother and dad and how even he’s a pawn in their BS, have an assassination plot straight out of Downtown Abbey, and even the whole deal with Johann is cool! Like, if they took out Squad 7’s high school antics and only showed the Imps this show would be amazing!

NOW the heart shaped flags are showing up I might have judged too early. Alicia barely gets two syllables of Maxie’s name out and Selvaria goes “YOU LOWLIVES HAVE NO RIGHT TO SPEAK THAT NAME REEEEEE” and starts foaming at the mouth, grabbing her sword and itching to cut down Welkin and Co, to the point where Maxie has to restrain her.

AND when Maxie has to go to the capital alone she practically starts begging to come with him. She’s even the first to recognise this whole invasion is highkey sus and his dad and bro have tricks up their sleeves. And then he gives her this death glare, she apologises with this really sad tone, and runs off totally ignoring Johann.

Also the anime added Cain and Abel flags because she and Alicia keep giving each other “have we met?” looks like they just know they share DNA. I wonder how THAT is going to look like later on.

Johann in the English dub sounded clearly like a teenager, but here, he looks around Selvaria’s age - early 20s and has the voice to back it up. This means Johann/Selvaria HERE doesn’t have the cougar vibes it had in-game.

And Jaeger is... kind of a dick here? Like he’s constantly mocking Selvaria’s love for Maxie with snide remarks like “of course YOU would think someone should be by Maxie’s side” and “you will never change with your loyalty won’t you?” and “yeah but YOUR GRACE isn’t here so you can do what you want fam.” And she’s very visibly saddened! Jaeger, there are some things you NEVER talk about with girls - their weight, their age, and about their unrequited loves.

Even Johann gets a turn, albeit accidentally when he tries to stop her from rescuing Maxie by saying “you don’t want to betray him don’t you?” And he’s shocked by how quickly it worked going “just how submissive is she to him?” Well... let’s just say she would really like to be in more ways than one.

And Maxie’s abuse... is worse. Much much worse. In the game, we only see Maxie’s true colours at Naggiar. Here however, he’s painted as manipulative, womanising scum from the very beginning.

He razes Barious to the ground and then asks Selvaria “are you sad? I destroyed one of your relics.” She responds with “you’re the only one I rely on” and he gives this “just what I hope you’d say” smirk. Considering at this point in the game the Radiator Killing level is there, he had NO reason to nuke Barious other than as some kind of fucked up “true love test.”

He also seems to have taken a page from chauvinistic Jain men. In a scene where everyone is eating their meals... Selvaria is standing... presumably waiting for the men to finish while she gets the leftovers. That brought reminders of bad Saas Bahu dramas where the wife is expected to eat last while she serves the men.

And worst of all... was the whole assassination deal. It was yet ANOTHER one of his fucked up “true love tests.” He clearly knew that Selvaria would sniff out the assassination plot, betray his orders, and try to rescue him. Why else would the guy be so nonchalant about going alone? She’s fanatically saying his name as they get to the mansion, cuts down all those dudes Valkyria style, and then reaches him finally.

Her face very obviously softens, she walks to him saying “I don’t apologise for betraying your order. I’ll accept any punishment you give me” (especially if it involves ropes or whips... *wink wink nudge nudge*). She may have been expecting an acknowledgment, some praise, a love confession, hug or a kiss if she was really lucky...

And he just walked RIGHT PAST HER. TOTALLY IGNORING HER LIKE SHE JUST DID THE BARE MINIMUM!! The message is CLEAR - “You did what you were supposed to... now try harder. You want me? Earn me.” Even Jaeger could see the intent and found it just as gross as I did!

Selvaria, baby, please, no. Please stop doing this to yourself. This blond bitch ass fuckboi doesn’t love you. He’s using you. He’s not Prince Charming who rescued you on his white horse, he is a monster who will exploit people in any way to make them do his bidding. You were NOT saved. You just went from one abuser - the scientists, to another. You deserve better, so, so much better, than a guy who treats you like this.

It doesn’t have an English dub though… which means I will have to get used to the Japanese voices… but that’s a small price to pay. 

From what little I’ve seen of the clips on Youtube, it was made in 2009 and it SHOWS really badly. Ironically, when I was in middle school I would have liked the anime but the game would have been too complex for me. Now it’s the reverse. 

From what I see the show was NOT kind to Squad 7, but what matters most to me is what they did to Selvaria. They’d BETTER not butcher my girl or there will be hell to pay…
