Transfiguration Classroom

“Good morning class, please settle down.” McGonagall’s voice was stern, as always, but today it seemed to hold a bit more patience for her students. It was Valentine’s day after all, and they were just a bunch of overly excited hormones filled 16 year olds, she was once young too, you know. 

“I know you are all excited today, but please, maintain your composure. I have a special lesson planned for this class.” 

At that the whole class perked up, usually “Special Lesson” meant troubles or hospital wing, especially when the marauders were in the classroom.

“Today we are going to transform butterflies into flowers and vice versa. So please come grab a caged butterfly on my desk and sit down with your partner, so I can give you the instructions.”

“Oh, this is so sweet” said a girl somewhere in the class, and a lot more people agreed. It was odd from McGonagall to have them do something so romantic on Valentines, but they certainly weren’t complaining. 

Sirius and Remus could already see James pestering Lily, trying to get her to be his partner, and just rolled their eyes.

“This is stupid” Sirius said, rolling his eyes. “Really? I find it romantic” Remus was pointedly not looking at Sirius’ eyes. They had been secretly dating for less than a month, and he still felt embarrassed by displays of affection. 

“You find it romantic, Moony? For real?” Sirius asked curiously, while sitting back down at their desk. 

“I mean… flowers, Valentine’s day, butterflies. I think it’s sweet, that’s all.” Remus shrugged, feigning indifference. He would have actually loved to receive flowers or chocolate as a gift, but he would not tell Sirius that, it seemed stupid to say it out loud. 

“Huh.” That’s all Sirius said before turning his attention to the professor, who was explaining the spell. 

Class was dismissed after one hour, and the students were allowed to keep their flowers. Sirius took a long time time to pack his bag, and he and Remus were the last sitting in the Transfiguration classroom. Once he was sure they were alone, Padfoot turned to Moony. “Happy Valentine’s day, Moony.” And put his flower behind Remus’ ear, that was now turning a deep shade of red. “Pads… you- Thank you.” With a kiss and wink, Sirius grabbed his hand and led him outside of the classroom, making sure that no one was around. 

The thing is, he didn’t notice a brown cat with dark circles under its eyes observing them from the professor’s desk.

Y/n anxiously taped her foot several times trying to calm herself but she wasn’t lucky. She could see how everyone looked at her boyfriend. It was like they were eating him alive just by looking at him. She knew everyone had their eyes settle on him, but who wouldn’t? James Potter was the perfect lover. The boy people needed in their life. He was sweet, charming, funny, smart, she could go on and on about the things she loved about James and that still wouldn’t be enough to describe the boy.

James Potter and Y/n L/n met in their first year at Hogwarts. James quickly got his way around making friends and gaining popularity just the first weeks of being there. But Y/n could only dream of having that much, she would occasionally have conversations with Lily Evans but that was about  it. She wasn’t as bold and charismatic as James that’s for sure. But that’s what James liked about her, she was his little secret. They were so opposite from each other that they fit perfectly, if that even makes sense.

When they first bump into each other on their first day, Y/n had previously stuffed her mouth with chocolates to calm her nerves and James was running around the halls trying to find a place to sit. While James was looking, he felt himself bump into a small frame and that was the first time James Potter saw Y/n L/n. The first thing he noticed about the girl was her nose. It was completely covered in chocolate but he didn’t dare say a word, he found her adorable, even with her chocolate covered nose.

And that day was also the start of James Potter’s crush on Y/n L/n  He initially didn’t want to scare Y/n off given the fact she wasn’t such a talker so he came up with the best idea he could’ve come up with, he would give her chocolate anonymously. Remus Lupin knew about chocolates, chocolates to help you go to sleep, chocolate to cheer you up and chocolates to make you fall in love, long story short to James, Remus was the chocolate expert, so he begged Remus to give him his stash of chocolate so he could leave them with her. At first James started placing the chocolates with little notes where she would sit in classes or at diner, but when that didn’t work he ended up placing the chocolates in her bed which ended up freaking her out, Lily’s words not his.  So  James decided it was best to stop the anonymous chocolate bit for a while and when their fourth year at Hogwarts came around James waited until February fourteen to personally hand a perfectly selected arrangement of chocolates to Y/n and  with that the rest was history.

Two years later, there she was waiting for James to  bring another round of drinks for her to drown in. The Gryffindors had decided to throw a Valentines party and as much as Y/n was against it she found herself on her fourth drink dancing to the feet of the music. Lily sat next to her muttering about how her date had ditched her last minute. But from the loud music the only two things Y/n could think about was saving a seat for James and how good her drink was. She saw how Sirius pulled James towards the makeshift stage Sirius had previously forced Y/n and Remus to make. James looked through the suggested song pointing to one specifically, grinning. From the back of her head she could hear Sirius yelling into a microphone about some karaoke challenge.

“Now, I’ll leave you guys with the amazing, James Potter. Who is starting his debut in music just for one night with a hit song” Sirius did a dramatic hand shake while James winked at his girlfriend turning on the mic.

“This song is very special to me and girlfriend, so this song's for you love” James yelled into the mic while the intro to Lover started playing. Y/n could feel all the people's eyes on her but for a moment, when she locked eyes with James it was like they were the only two people in the room and before she knew she was standing on top of a table with James by her side. He loudly sang the words to Taylor Swift's lover while Y/n tried not to laugh her ass off. Y/n blushed while James swayed her side to side to the rhythm of the music while softly singing in her ear forgetting for a moment that he was actually singing for a crowd.

“Come on don’t leave me hanging” James laughed in her ear while twirling her around carefully not letting her fall from the table. Y/n quickly picked up the mic Sirius was extending towards her and started singing along with James.

“Ladies and gentlemen, will you please stand? With every guitar string scar on my hand

I take this magnetic force of a man to be my lover” Y/n screamed into the mic while James leaned against her laughing as hard as he could. He held onto Y/n’s waist in an attempt to not fall into the group of people cheering for them.

“My heart's been borrowed and yours has been blue. All's well that ends well to end up with you. Swear to be overdramatic and true to my lover” James turned her so they where face to face his hand resting on her chin while both of the held onto a mic singing the words while the other people around them sung with them.

“Can I go where you go? Can we always be this close forever and ever? And ah, take me out, and take me home. You're my, my, my, my Lover” both of them sung together resting on each other's foreheads. James brushed Y/n’s hair off her face while giving her a soft but loving kiss. There was one thing Y/n knew for certain, before James, she couldn’t relate this much to a Taylor swift song.
