Book 4 Fanfic Fuel

Instead of squid-kites, I'm making Raava and Vaatu to be animal-like. Raava would be a peacock/secretary bird/phoenix while Vaatu would be an 8 headed snake. The statue in the library is going to be the base for Raava.
Then my Taang crumb

With the new Avatar series being post apocalyptic, I had to draw this up:

I'm not the most hyped about the new premise either, but I'm going to wait until we get actual footage to form my opinions!

After rewatching tlok i'm still holding on to my theory that Omashu either was a lion turtle city in the past or still is a lion turtle city and the turtle is just dormant (or dead, which is more morbid but still possible)
If you compare the design of Omashu to the design of multiple lion turtle cities, they both appear to be very stacked cities, with buildings across all different heights. They're both circular cities as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The origin tale of Omashu dates from around the conception of earthbending, which we now know to be about 10.000 years prior to Korra's time (aka Wan's time). Oma, the woman from the story, is said to be the first earthbender. Lion turtles granted people the ability to bend, which both Oma and Shu used to make the secret tunnel leading to and away from the city. The difference is, Oma and Shu learned the technique from badgermoles, which is why they were considered so powerful. (Just like Wan, who learned from the dragon during his time away from the city).
There's a very real possibility that there was a war within the turtle city (we saw all the class problems in Wan's city, and humans are gonna human) and in order to escape the war, Oma and Shu asked the turtle for earthbending so they could escape and be together safely.
Tumblr media
On the avatar wiki, it also explains that after the era of the spirits, during the era of the Avatar, the lion turtles got hunted into near extinction. Some turtles chose to hide, like the turtle Aang came across in the show who chose to pose as an island. Earth lion turtles are able to bury themselves into the ground. Omashu could very well be an earth turtle that's buried underground to hide from society, and because so much time has passed history turned into myth.
I know it's a loose theory but i just can't get over the fact that the history of earthbending near Omashu and then the history of lion turtles seems to contradict but also align so well. It makes sense that the two lovers were granted the ability of earthbending from their own turtle and then learned how to use it from the badgermoles.

IDK if it's too fanfic an idea or if it even makes sense with ATLA/Korra lore but I bet the twin is gonna be Vaatu's reincarnation and be some kind of shadow avatar opposite the main's light side avatar.

Raava and Vaatu is the one thing from the franchise that i would erase from existence for being such a terrible idea and misunderstanding of the eastern philosophies that inspired Avatar.
People keep talking about how it represents Yin and Yang while ignoring how Yin and Yang AREN'T opposing forcing trying to destroy one another
The Koi fish from ATLA understood the concept. Push and Pull, not pure good vs pure evil. In Yin Yang terms even good and evil are just relatives that exist purely because the opposite definition does.
The Avatar should embody both, not one and lock the other away in a tree for 10,000 years....
Atla already did spirits as a representation of Yin and Yang, and they did it well. Why reuse the concept but objectively worse? :/

Random thought about Korra’s responsibility ending the Avatar cycle.
IT WASN’T HER FAULT. She was a teenager that was manipulated by a family member who was also a world leader and was also apart of a secret terrorist group that she trusted not to lead her astray. He used her to start a civil war and open the spirit portals so HE could release 10,000 years of darkness on the world. Once Korra realized her role in the plan she tried to correct the actions that led to the conflict that Unalaq had planned probably for years. We saw how conniving he was when he convinced his father-The Chief of the Northern Water Tribe- to exile Tonraq for treason.
Let’s also not forget that Unalaq and Vaatu tried to kill Korra by crushing her in the ground and that they literally ripped Raava from Korra’s body THROUGH HER MOUTH (which was probably excruciatingly painful) and beat Raava within an inch of her life while Korra could do nothing except watch because the avatar spirit was forcibly removed from her.
Korra didn’t end the Avatar cycle. Unavaatu did. And even though when I first watched Book 2 I disliked it as much as everyone else, I guess I just realized today why it grinds my gears. (Also I appreciate book 2 more than I did when it first aired)
Saying it’s Korra’s fault that the avatar cycle ended is vicious victim blaming especially when you consider that only months before this fight she tried to end her life because Amon took her bending.
All of Korra’s villains stole pieces of her identity and essence which is why no matter how cool conceptually her villains are, I will never say I like them or support them. The emotional scars they all left Korra broke her. So for anyone to say that it was her fault is not only wrong, it’s cruel.
Especially since Korra *DID* blame herself for every perceived failure she had including the ending of the avatar cycle.
Losing the Avatar cycle wasn’t shown in a positive light. It was grieved and situated as a plot device to start over because just like in real life, sometimes we lose everything and have to move forward with whatever pieces we have and forge our own way.
The fandom is so ridiculous about Korra and the reasons they don’t like her. Especially since the main reason people don’t like her is because she isn’t Aang.
