Shubman Gill-led Indian team touches down in Harare for T20Is against Zimbabwe
A youthful Indian team, led by Shubman Gill and having VVS Laxman, the National Cricket Academy (NCA) head of cricket as the coach touched down at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport ahead of the five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe starting on July 6.
In a video posted by Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) on X, the Indian team is seen making its way to arriving at the airport in Harare. While the entire India squad departed from Mumbai on Tuesday for arriving in Harare, Gill arrived from New York, where he was taking a break after being a traveling reserve in India’s Group A stage matches in the USA for the T20 World Cup.

India Coach Application Deadline Ends: No Top Foreign Names Apply, VVS Laxman Not Interested, Gautam Gambhir…
The deadline for applying for the post of Indian men's cricket team chief coach ended on Monday but both the BCCI and the top name in its wishlist, Gautam Gambhir chose to keep mum on the development. After guiding Kolkata Knight Riders to their third IPL trophy on Sunday, it is but natural that Gambhir's name is getting more momentum. While both interested parties haven't said anything on record, the BCCI, it seems, doesn't have too many quality options available at the moment.
It is understood that no notable foreign name has applied for the post, especially after BCCI secretary Jay Shah made it clear that the Board is looking at someone who has risen through the ranks and knows the domestic structure.
It could be safely said that the BCCI's primary target was VVS Laxman, the National Cricket Academy head, but the stylish Hyderabadi seems not interested in a full time position which requires him to available for 10 months a year.
"The deadline is fine, but the BCCI brass wouldn't mind taking some more time before reaching a decision. Right now, the team will be busy with World T20 for the better part of the month of June. After that seniors will be rested from tours of Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe where any of the NCA-based senior coaches can accompany the team. So what's the hurry," a BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
Also, KKR principal owner Shah Rukh Khan shares a deep bond with Gambhir and it is not easy to leave an IPL team which has been a part of identity for the former India opener.
There's another aspect that needs to be look into seriously -- what senior India players, currently in New York, feel on whether Gambhir can indeed be Rahul Dravid's replacement.

Ravindra Jadeja is angry at the unfair treatment of Ishan Kishan
With the Board of Control for Cricket in India preparing a contract extension for head coach Rahul Dravid after the ICC World Cup 2023, the chief of the National Cricket Academy and batting icon VVS Laxman coached a second-string Indian side for the entire five-match T20I series against Australia. Under the leadership of new captain Suryakumar Yadav, a second-string India side defeated Australia 4-1 in the bilateral series.
Superstar Shreyas Iyer, who was rested for the first three T20Is, joined the Indian squad as Suryakumar's deputy for the final two encounters against Australia. While Iyer was roped in as the No. 3 batter for the 4th and 5th T20I, India decided to release Ishan Kishan from its playing XI after the third encounter of the five-game series. When Ravindra Jadeja got asked, “Was Kishan really that tired after three matches?’ Jaddu said, “There was a series right after the World Cup. Ishan Kishan played three matches and went home.
Was he really that tired after three matches that he needed rest? He didn't even play a lot of games at the World Cup. He deserved his spot in the playing XI for the first few World Cup matches. How many Indian players have scored a double century on a good day? He can change the game on his own. When will he get ready? Will you keep him on trial all the time? In the last two years, how many games has he played? This problem of Indian cricket is not of today; it is very old that we don’t select players but reject them.”

Young Indian team with coach VVS Laxman leave for Zimbabwe tour
The young Indian cricket team and interim coach VVS Laxman departed for Zimbabwe late Monday night for a five-match T20I series, scheduled from July 6-14 at the Harare Sports Club.
The BCCI shared a series of photos on social media capturing the players and coach as they left for Zimbabwe.
This will be the fourth time that Zimbabwe will host India in a bilateral men’s T20I series, having previously faced off in 2010, 2015, and 2016 respectively.

[ad_1] India after defeating Australia at the Optus Stadium, Perth (PC: Debasis Sen) RevSportz Comment In the eyes of millions, Indian cricket came of age at Eden Gardens in March 2001, with a victory after following-on against Steve Waugh’s Invincibles. But it was other victories, away from home, in the same decade that truly established that Indian cricket was on an upward trajectory and not inclined to look back. Each was unexpected, as much a bucking of the odds as the World Cup final triumph in 1983, and because they came in the format where the better team invariably prevails, they became benchmarks for future generations to follow. At Headingley in 2002, Sourav Ganguly disregarded the bowler-friendly conditions at the toss and decided to bat. Rahul Dravid’s painstaking century, and a valuable 68 from Sanjay Bangar set up the game, and punishing hundreds from Sachin Tendulkar and the captain himself led India to a famous innings win, with Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh taking 11 wickets in the match. Less than 18 months later, India gave up 400 runs in a day and 556 in total in the first innings at the Adelaide Oval. But with Dravid and VVS Laxman reprising their Kolkata heroics by adding 303, and Ajit Agarkar summoning up the spell of his life (6-41), India eked out a four-wicket win almost as unreal as the Eden success. At the Wanderers in Johannesburg in 2006, Mickey Arthur, then South Africa’s coach, asked for pace and bounce. Dravid, again, and Tendulkar gritted their way through the toughest phase, before Ganguly made a sprightly half-century to lift India to 249. Sreesanth’s immaculate seam position, with support from Zaheer Khan, did the rest, as the hosts were skittled for 84 in their first dig. For the Latest Sports News: Click Here Australia vs India, Perth Test (PC: Debasis Sen) In Perth in January 2008, on the heels of the Monkeygate fiasco that nearly saw the tour cancelled, Australia unleashed Shaun Tait, The Wild Thing, at the WACA in Perth, alongside Brett Lee, Mitchell Johnson and Stuart Clark. But with Dravid, who else, making a gutsy 93, and Tendulkar contributing 71, India put 330 on the board. Their ‘pedestrian’ pace attack of Irfan Pathan, RP Singh and Ishant Sharma then took 14 of the 20 wickets to fall in a famous 72-run victory. The highlight was a teenage Ishant’s spell to Ricky Ponting on the fourth morning, with the Australian skipper put through the wringer before being put out of his misery. An emphatic 10-wicket win in Hamilton set up a first series win in New Zealand in over 40 years (2009), but equally noteworthy was the magnificent rearguard action that saved the next Test in Napier, spearheaded by none other than Gautam Gambhir, the current coach, who batted 643 minutes for his 137. Nearly two years later, on a lightning-quick Kingsmead deck, Sreesanth and Zaheer were to the fore as South Africa were routed again. Sreesanth’s bouncer which had Jacques Kallis jackknifing like a puppet on a string remains one of the most-played clips among Indian Test aficionados. India after winning the Perth Test vs Australia (PC: Debasis Sen) The impact of those wins What each of these victories did was ensure that the Virat Kohli-Cheteshwar Pujara-R Ashwin-Ajinkya Rahane-Rohit Sharma generation didn’t travel with the baggage or inferiority complexes of the past. Starting with Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami, there was a steady influx of genuinely quick bowlers into the XI, culminating in the inspired decision to give Jasprit Bumrah his red-ball debut at Newlands in January 2018. Over the past decade and a bit, India have won at venues as diverse as Lord’s, the MCG, Trent Bridge, Newlands, Adelaide, the Gabba in Brisbane and now the Optus Stadium. These results are no longer seismic shocks. And while no one takes them for granted, it’s now accepted that Indian cricket has what it takes to fight fire with a flame-thrower. In the 20th century, India played 157 Tests away from home, and won just 14. Of those,
two came against Australia’s Packer Era second-stringers, and one apiece in Sri Lanka — before the glory years — and Bangladesh. The first three overseas wins were all against a New Zealand then considered the international game’s basement side. This century, India now have 47 wins from 132 overseas Tests. If you narrow it down to the last decade alone, they have won more (23) than they’ve lost (18) on foreign fields. Nearly half of those (11) have been in the SENA countries where India once went as lambs to the slaughter. Ganguly may have frequently polarised opinion both as a player and leader, but it’s impossible to overstate just how much that brave call at the toss in Leeds all those years ago transformed Indian cricket. There have been hiccups aplenty along the way, but there would have been no Optus Stadium celebrations without the spadework done by Dravid and Bangar under the cloudy Yorkshire skies. Gautam Gambhir Misses South Africa Tour; VVS Laxman to Step In as India’s T20 Coach
New Delhi: As Team India heads into a busy cricket season, Gautam Gambhir, India’s current head coach, will not join the squad for their T20 tour of South Africa. Instead, cricket legend VVS Laxman will step in as the head coach for the upcoming four-match series. Ooh I've seen a Glenchin reel too , a month or so back, I'll see if I can find it.. the song used for the reel is a popular Bollywood one called sunoji dulhan, and the premise is that there's a newlywed couple, and the groom's family are introducing themselves to the bride using cutesy songs, helping her feel welcome into the household. It's a template for Indian reels, that whenever celebrities have weddings, you'll see reels like these make an appearance 😂
So anyways, the reel in question had Sachin as the groom, and Glenn as the bride, and the Indian team were introducing themselves to Glenn! 😂😂😂
First up is our sasur ji, meaning father in law. this role was given to Rahul Dravid. In the song, the fil is introduced as a guy who built his fortune by himself, a self-made man who hasn't forgotten his roots. And yk, I can totally see Dravid fitting the roll!
Then comes our dear sasu maa, meaning the mother-in-law. that role was taken by Sourav Ganguly! 🤭😂 The mil is introduced as a woman who loves shopping and make-up and gossipping and stuff like that. 😅 I can see Sourav being a rich trophy wife anyday, also if Rahul is the fil then it makes sense for Sourav to be the mil, because Rahul/Sourav is canon atp 😌
Then they are introducing the nanad and nandoi. The groom's sister is called nanad and her husband is called nandoi. The nandoi is described as worshipping the ground his wife walks upon. The nanad and nandoi were Gambhir and Yuvraj respectively. 😅😅 You know, I can totally see this one too.
Then it's the turn of the chota devar, basically the younger brother of the groom. This guy is introduced as being very mischievous and chaotic. This role was given to Sehwag in the reel, which is perfect and fun!
Then it's the bade devar who is introduced, ie the older brother of the groom. This fellow is described as being quiet, sweet and shy. In the reel, he was played by VVS Laxman, which is so fitting 😂😂
Then finally, our bride aka Glenn is introduced to the groom aka Sachin! 😜 Sachin is ofc introduced as a guy who has no equal in the world and anyone will be lucky to marry him. 😅😂
This was honestly a very fun concept! If the reel was to be done with the Aussies introducing themselves to Sachin, who would play which roll acc to you? 😁
oh this is SUCH a fun concept!! for the aussies the father in law would have to be steve waugh, and i think the gossipy vain mother in law is definitely shane warne hahaha
the grooms sister and her husband... i can't quite decide between justin langer and matthew hayden, or brett lee and shane watson 🤔
the younger brother would be reknowned pest brad hogg and then the older brother would be jason gillespie!
