Impressive Dyno Results from a Tuned Porsche Cayenne Turbo
A customer of ours from Panama sent in this video and images of his Porsche Cayenne Turbo running the dyno at a local speed shop. The Cayenne received a full race exhaust system and our VR Tuned ECU Flash that we tune remotely via the OBDII port. The Porsche Cayenne 957 Turbo came from the factory with 500 horsepower out of the 4.8L twin turbo engine. Adding the VR Tuned ECU Flash which takes into account tuning the cars fuel, timing, throttle, and boost maps, we help squeeze out another 75 horsepower with the tune only. In addition to the customers full turboback exhaust, you have roughly a 100 horsepower gain over stock! The best part about it is these engines can handle the increase and are still very reliable. Looking at the dyno sheet, the wheel horsepower numbers are very impressive. Typical drivetrain loss from an AWD dyno is roughly 15-20%. 20% of 575hp is 460awhp which puts this Cayenne Turbo just over that.

ECU Tuning from your Smartphone now available from VR Tuned
VR Tuned has provided customers worldwide with additional power through their ECU tuning program since 2014. Most ECU tuning is done through the OBDII diagnostic port. This requires a special tool that is either made for the end user or the shop to read and write the vehicle ECU data. The main component that is also required with most of these tools is a laptop. Not just any laptop, a PC laptop. With so many users now running Mac, this also causes a headache. If you want to switch between files you need to have your PC traveling with you. Some tools such as the Dimsport MyGenius only require a laptop for the initial process then you have the handheld that can stay in the car. But now all that has changed with the new Alientech Powergate 4. This OBDII device is designed to read and write your ECU data all from your smartphone. There is no computers involved. Just plug the device into your OBDII port, download the app and follow the directions. The device can be used with most of the popular VR Tuned applications such as: Mercedes AMG’s, Audi S and RS models, Porsche 911’s, and BMW M models.
Check out the video we did on how to use the Powergate 4 as demonstrated on this 2016 Mercedes AMG GT-S. If you are interested in getting one of these units and a VR Tuned ECU Flash, please contact us here!

New Post has been published on https://www.vividracing.com/blog/best-beginner-mods-for-a-gen-2-ford-raptor/
Best Beginner Mods for a Gen 2 Ford Raptor
With the release of the Gen 3 Ford Raptor, the Gen 2 (2017-2020) Ford Raptors have come down in price. As one of the premiere offroad trucks, the Ford Raptor has set the bar that other manufactures continue to try to copy. Ready to take on any challenges offroad, a majority of these Raptors are used as daily drivers. For those not looking to jump a massive stadium truck ramp or tackle the Baja 1000, Vivid Racing has put together a list of perfect beginner mods to get more performance out of your Ford Raptor without sacrificing reliability or driveability.
youtube
Upgrade #1 – The Gen 2 has its keyboard warriors from the previous Gen 1 V8 model because the way the 3.5L EcoBoost sounds. You cannot totally change this more efficient and powerful engine to sound like a V8, but you can enhance the sound and gain more power. An exhaust system is one of the best upgrades you can do. To stay emission compliant, the VRP Valvetronic Catback is the way to go.
See Details Here – https://www.vividracing.com/vrp-valvetronic-exhaust-ford-raptor-35l-20172022-p-154220160.html
Upgrade #2 – Turbos work better when they can breathe. This is why an upgraded air intake is a perfect next step for the Ford Raptor EcoBoost. The 3.5L twin turbo will spool up faster, produce more torque and hp, and give you better throttle response with a new air intake kit. Our VRP Cold Air Intake is a direct OEM replacement and dyno tested. The reusable air filter and roto-mold air intake tubes look near factory in the engine bay.
See Details Here – https://www.vividracing.com/vrp-cold-air-intake-kit-ford-raptor-f150-ecoboost-p-151939185.html
Upgrade #3 – There are 2 ways to go from this point after you do the basic intake and exhaust combo. You can go right for the ECU Tune or spend the big bucks to get an upgraded intercooler to give even more efficiency to the Turbochargers. But if you do not want to deal with taking apart your front end and spending that extra money, have fun with a BOV adapter for the factory intercooler pipe. This CNC machined aluminum part is a simple add on for the factory pressure relief valve to give you that cool SWOOOSH sound in between shifts. Is there an advantage? Its debatable but definitely something fun to have!
See Details Here – https://www.vividracing.com/vrp-blow-off-valve-adapter-ford-f150-raptor-ecoboost-p-152609772.html
Upgrade #4 – This is the most important upgrade you can do to the vehicle once your efficiency parts (intake and exhaust) are changed. The ECU Flash is the biggest HP per dollar you can do. You will be surprised to see that you can gain an extra 100 horsepower out of the 3.5L EcoBoost to the crank. This makes a major difference in that low end torque for pulling and 0-60 where you spend most of your time driving the truck.
See Details Here – https://www.vividracing.com/vr-tuned-ecu-flash-tune-ford-raptor-35l-ecoboost-450hp-20172020-p-151941249.html
Looking for bigger upgrades to get more horsepower? Well we have that too for the Gen2 by going with the Garrett Turbo Upgrade Kit as seen on one of our older Project Car articles here – https://www.vividracing.com/blog/video-our-project-ford-raptor-gets-bigger-turbos/

Ford Bronco Raptor Plug & Play Tuning Box Gains 70hp - Video Inside!
The Ford Bronco Raptor is the beast of the offroad machine we have all been waiting for since the 6th generation Bronco was reintroduced. With its 418hp 3.0L twin turbo Ecoboost engine, this is screaming to be touched and unleash its hidden potential. With an entire line of Plug and Play tuning box kits available for turbocharged cars, trucks, and SUVs, one of VR Tuned most successful sales product has been for the Ford Bronco 2.7L Ecoboost. Well now its time for the Bronco Raptor 3.0L Ecoboost to choice in with the gains!
Being lucky enough to have the Ford Bronco Raptor here at Vivid Racing, we were able to strap this thing down to our Mustang Dyno and see what it made stock. Once we got our baseline test of around 334 rear wheel horsepower, we could start the development of the tuning box map. The tuning boxes are universal and get preprogrammed to the customers vehicle before they are shipped. And the harness for the Ford Bronco Raptor is one already available as its used in the Bronco 2.7L as well as the Ford F-150 3.5L Ecoboost engine. Connecting the harness to the Manifold Pressure and Boost Pressure sensor is all it takes to bring this live. The sensors are very easy to access with one being right in front of the throttle body and the other just under the intake tube that goes across the top of the engine. With a 10mm socket just remove a metal bracket to gain access to this sensor.
Utilizing our logging device we were able to test different settings of some base maps that are then preset for the tuning box to be in a safe range for 91-93 octane. Once we were happy with the tweaks made, we were able to complete our after runs to compare to our baseline test. Using setting 6 on the tuning box which is preferred, we saw some pretty strong gains throughout the entire midrange. Both horsepower and torque picked up about 50 to the wheels (70-80 to the crank). Power can be measured to the crank which is standard HP or to the wheels which is RWHP. Dyno graphs will show RWHP. So when Ford says the vehicle makes 418HP, in actuality, on our Mustang Dyno with 91octane and our warm ambient temperature of 90F here in Arizona, we saw about a 20% drivetrain loss giving 334rwhp. But with the tuning box we achieved about 380rwhp. That puts this Bronco Raptor at 480HP to the crank!
The tuning box found a neat home to be mounted right behind the passenger side intake box. Because this is a plug and play device, it can easily be removed for major warranty purposes should you choose to do so. There is not trace or record to the ECU since we are not altering the ECU parameters directly. The best part is the entire kit is Bluetooth operated via an IOS or Android app.

The Audi R8 will forever be renowned as the flagship of the German automaker and their slogan, “Vorsprung durch Technik”, meaning “Progress through Technology” is more evident than ever in their line of R8’s. While Audi decided 2 vastly different trim levels of their latest supercar would best serve the consumer, the most elite drivers chose the V10.
I have read time and time again that the V10 was built to make you feel special, while the V8 was built around driving experience. Yet, I have come to my own conclusion: anyone that states the V8 is the true driver’s car, must not have had their V10 Audi R8 VR Tuned.

This is not to say the Italian engineers at Lamborghini didn’t do an absolutely marvelous job with Audi’s 5.2-liter V10 (yes you read that correctly), but they left so much on the table because they weren’t just going to let Audi have their cake and eat it too. It’s all-too-common knowledge that the R8 and Lamborghini Gallardo share an engine. However, what’s less commonly known or understood is the concept of de-tuning. Typically, when automotive manufacturers share power plants, the borrower will often get a de-tuned version to justify the price difference and fund the R&D of the originator. Changing as few items as possible to restrict performance is the name of the game, and the easiest way to achieve this is through ECU mapping. See Ferrari and Maserati as reference.
However, enthusiasts like the team here at Vivid Racing believe you should get what you pay for and we’re in the business of doing just that. Our VR Tuned ECU flash is designed to bring your V10 R8 out of the paddock and place you aggressively ahead of the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4. Producing 525hp and 391ft/lbs of torque was impressive, but our guy Dan said those were rookie numbers. So we filled the R8 with 91 octane and hit the dyno on a summer day and still managed to extract over 600hp and 439ftlbs of torque from this borrowed heart with no bolt on modifications. Once we paired our VR Tuned Flash with the BMC Carbon Racing Air Filter and Kreissieg F1 Valvetronic Exhaust, we found ourselves in Huracan Evo territory, so it’s pretty clear that your V10 wants to eat. If your R8 is looking for a meal fit for a king, VF Engineering is serving up Aventador level torque, at a fraction of the price of an Aventador without sacrificing the character of the R8, with their VF750 Roots-Style supercharger system, but that’s a story for a different track.
So if your R8 just isn’t doing it for you anymore, don’t sell the car, VR Tune it. For anything else you need to get the most out of your R8, shoot me an email direct at [email protected] and we’ll get you on the podium.

While purists, myself included, will always prefer three pedals to two, I will be the first to admit that since it’s 2003 debut, Volkswagen Auto Group’s Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) or Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) was a gamechanger. A quick google search would hail countless pages of noise samples, roll races, and technical ins-and-outs, but simply put… it’s fast… but it could be faster.
That being said, we were hyped to learn that the third generation Audi S3 would not only feature the 300hp 2.0 liter TFSI inline four cylinder engine, but it would also be paired with a fast-shifting Direct Shift Gearbox. A sure recipe for success, Audi kept this power combo together for 4 model years, giving us the chance to really test the limits of the S3.
For starters, 300hp and 281ftlbs of torque is more than enough to get a skilled driver from 0-60 in just 4.8 seconds utilizing lightning fast shifts at a 6800rpm redline that keeps you pinned under what is one of the most impressive factory torque curves in its class! Holding strong from 1800-5500rpms and five crispy shifts later, you’ll find the factory limiter hard set at 155mph, but not before passing the ¼ mile performance benchmark in about 13.3 seconds. All of this, by the way, was done on the factory 225/40 street compound tires. To say this platform is impressive is the understatement of the century, but like every car that crests the white and grey Vivid Racing dyno lab doors, it could be faster.
Our first issue with the Audi S3 was the same issue we run into with almost all OEM’s, so we addressed it immediately. The factory overrun fuel cut delay produces some happy exhaust burbles, but they serve as no replacement for response. A little acceleration enrichment management and throttle mapping saw our otherwise factory S3 immediately come alive, completely eliminating the pedal delay that plagues so many automatic transmission vehicles. From there, we spent a little time on our timing and fueling strategies, even delaying that overrun fuel cut even more for a few fireworks out the tail pipe, before ending with a safe, but aggressive 368 hp and 357 ftlbs of torque. Our new found 20% increase in horsepower and 26% increase in torque was amazing, but we knew something was missing. So, we disabled the speed limiter, and it was impressive, but still not perfect yet. So we looked to the transmission.

From the factory, the DQ250 is one of the most capable modern transmissions in the sport compact game, but unlike our beloved T56’s and R154’s, the DQ250’s brawn depends less on it’s hardware and more on its software. In regular trim, Audi designed this transmission for the common person. It has been refined to focus less on violent acceleration and more on comfort, emissions, and longevity, but like most things, the OEM’s took this refinement to the extreme, effectively caging the DQ250’s spirit in the name of normality. Luckily, here at VR Tuned, we have developed a flash that allows you to harness every bit of power and translate it seamlessly to whatever road surface you choose.
The DSG is similar to your automatic and manual transmissions in that it translates engine torque to the wheels, but the way it does it would require its own article. In short, we were able to extend shift points, quicken the clutch engagement, and modify a few parameters to ensure efficient repeatable launches with our higher power levels. Most importantly, nothing we did to our transmission computer affected our engine computer. This means there were no check engine lights, no need to re-tune our ECU, and we had nailed the direct plug-and-play simplicity we have grown to enjoy across all platforms with our VR Tuned products.
Interested in this Audi S3 Transmission Flash? Order Here
All in hand, if you’re fortunate enough to own one of these marvels of German engineering, you owe it to yourself, your car, and your time slips to get it VR Tuned. Whether you’re stock, Full Bolt-On, or just wanted some burbles, you must get your DSG Tuned.
If you have any specific questions, feel free to reach out to [email protected], otherwise, we’ll see you at the track.

BMW i8 ECU Flash Tuning - The Most Powerful BMW Tunes
“Is the BMW i8 a supercar?” This questions is as old as the i8 itself. Upon its public reveal at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2013, consumers were sure BMW just built the next legend.
However, in August 2014, American enthusiasts were left wanting more… power. While the design rivals that of some of the most exclusive supercars, when it came to functionality BMW preferred efficiency over power. So in short, the answer really depends on your definition of a supercar. According to the Vivid Racing Multilingual Dictionary, the BMW i8 is not a supercar, but no worries, we managed to fix that.
While the BMW i8 is undeniably an impressive hybrid, it does come with its own list of imperfections, and its turbocharged 1.5 liter 3-cylinder engine is not one of them surprisingly. From the factory, this car produces over 120 horsepower per cylinder and over 420 ftlbs of torque. The hybrid system ensures you get off the line efficiently and save gas when you’re not giving it the beans. However, after a few rips and some track work, it was clear we needed to pull just a little bit more out of i8.
Our tuning process for the i8 is tried and true and simple. We adjust critical parameters including air/fuel ratios, ignition timing, throttle limitations, rev limits, speed limits, and various others (including upping the boost), enabling the mighty 3 cylinder’s bite to match its bark. The resulting VRTuned flashing not only increases horsepower and torque, but it also leads to an improved driving experience, characterized by enhanced throttle response and overall smoother transient throttle performance. Of course, in typical VR fashion we opted for the Pops and Bangs for a little added spice and what we’ll call our “fourth tail light”, and the results were, to say the least, super.
The advantages and performance gains from our tune alone are quite remarkable. We were able to blow past the 400hp mark by gaining over 43 whp and increasing the already exhilarating torque value by 58 ftlbs. Now this BMW i8 has officially gained the VR stamp of approval as a legitimate Supercar.
Interested in this BMW I8 ECU Flash? Order Here
Later on, we added a little Meisterschaft titanium to the rear, a K&N drop in air filter, and closed the fender gap around our VR Forged exclusive wheels with D2 Racing Coilovers and created the Ultimate i8, but those numbers are top secret. If you’re seeking one of the most fundamental yet effective enhancements to unleash the power of your BMW i8, an ECU flash from VR Tuned is the only option. Check out the video below to see and hear this factory i8 in action.

Guards Red Porsche 996 Turbo VR Tuned ECU Flash Install
The Porsche 996 Turbo is one of the most iconic tuner vehicles of all time. It offers a massive amount of performance, but requires a lot of skill to use the performance, making it a very rewarding and fun car to drive.
At 420hp, it’s no slouch, but many 996 Turbo owners end up wanting more power. Porsche left a lot of performance untapped to protect sales of the X50 packaged Turbo models and the later Turbo S. With an ECU tune, you can uncover this hidden performance and turn your 996 into a “supercar killer.”
With an ECU tune, boost is increased from 0.6 bar to 1.0 bar, resulting in an 80hp and 90lb-ft increase! With other modifications such as an intake and exhaust, power is increased even further. Aside from the massive increase in power, fuel economy and throttle response are also improved.

BMW M4 Competition +50hp VR Tuned ECU Flash
When BMW initially launched the F80/F82, enthusiasts were thrilled. It had a few flaws, but it was the best M3/M4 BMW had ever built. For 2018, the BMW M4 was upgraded to the BMW M4 Competition. With that upgrade came fine-tuned suspension and a 14 horsepower increase. Even at 450 horsepower, the M4 Competition isn’t fast enough for many enthusiasts. Luckily, the turbocharged nature of the M4 Competition makes increasing power very easy with bolt-on modifications and a high-quality ECU tune.
When you install a tune, the original parameters for things such as boost, air/fuel ratio, ignition curves, and throttle response are changed. By changing these parameters, especially target boost, you squeeze more power out of the engine. In the case of the M4 Competition, power is increased to 500hp and 498lb-ft. With that massive increase in power, 0-60 and 1/4 mile times are greatly improved. The increase in low-end torque combined with the improved throttle response makes the M4 Competition a monster in the canyons.
Stock Power: 444hp and 406lb-ft
Stage 1 Power: 500hp and 498lb-ft
Stage 2 Power: 520hp and 530lb-ft
