Phantom Friday... is back.
No long narrative this week, just some dramatic PHANTOM pics.
VF-31 F-4B Phantom crosses the ramp going for a trap.
Some unusual things here. The aircraft is rather low, flying pretty close to the dreaded ramp. Also note that the preferred #3 wire (arresting cable) is missing. There was probably a problem with the #3 arresting engine below deck (there is an engine for each wire) so the cross-deck pendant was stripped and the LSO told the pilot to fly a shorter approach for the #2 wire. Not optimal but it could be done safely with care in good conditions. A compromise between targeting #2 and #4. The latter would likely result in more bolters, and with aircraft in the foreground crewed up and ready to launch, there was no time to waste.

Medications Administered:
1 mg Epinephrine IV every 3–5 minutes during CPR (3 doses given).
300 mg Amiodarone IV push following initial shock.
Transport to Hospital:
Time En Route: 15 minutes
Condition During Transport: Patient deteriorated en route, suffering a second cardiac arrest at 10:33 AM. Aggressive CPR was resumed with defibrillation (2 shocks, 200J each) and ROSC achieved at 10:38 AM.
Vital Signs Pre-Hospital Arrival:
Heart Rate: 48 bpm (weak, irregular)
Blood Pressure: 72/50 mmHg
SpO2: 82% (on 100% O2 via BVM)
Hospital Arrival:
Time of Arrival: 10:44 AM
Patient presented with recurrent arrhythmia, hypotension, and altered mental status. Handoff provided to ER staff for advanced resuscitation.
Autopsy Report
Patient Name: Darren Kozlowski Case Number: ME-2024-894 Age: 31 Sex: Male Date of Death: July 8, 2024 Time of Death: 11:03 AM Performed By: Dr. Laura Mendelson, MD, Forensic Pathologist Location: County Medical Examiner’s Office

Heart:
Weight: 375 grams (normal range: 280–340 grams).
Severe coronary artery disease identified:
95% occlusion of the left anterior descending artery (LAD).
80% occlusion of the right coronary artery (RCA).
Evidence of acute myocardial infarction (MI) involving 40% of the left ventricle, with microscopic examination confirming recent myocardial necrosis and hemorrhage.
Mild left ventricular hypertrophy noted (wall thickness: 1.5 cm).
Lungs:
Pulmonary congestion and edema (weight: 750 grams per lung).
No evidence of pulmonary embolism.
Other Organs:
Liver: Mild steatosis.
Kidneys: Acute tubular necrosis, likely secondary to hypoperfusion during cardiac arrest events.
Brain: Mild cerebral edema, no gross signs of anoxic injury.
Toxicology Results:
Negative for alcohol, illicit drugs, and prescribed medications.
Positive for mild caffeine levels consistent with normal consumption.
Cause of Death: Acute myocardial infarction due to severe coronary artery disease, complicated by multiple cardiac arrests.
Manner of Death: Natural.
Pathologist’s Summary: The decedent, a 31-year-old male, succumbed to complications from a severe heart attack while running. Advanced resuscitation efforts successfully restored circulation twice; however, irreversible cardiac damage and circulatory collapse led to his death. Contributing factors include undiagnosed atherosclerosis and left ventricular hypertrophy, suggesting a predisposition to cardiac events under physical exertion.

Fun BSD French translation details and choices - Episode 31 (by someone who does not understand Japanese but thinks the differences with the English translation/subtitles are fun)
General notes:
The first title of the episode, which is usually Herurisu, was translated into "Cherrirs". While it looked like the verb "chérir", which means "cherish", the lack of an accent, the double Rs and the S at the end discard that possibility. So I went on a little hunt and the bsd wiki finally told me Herurisu is the romanisation(?) of the word Cherrírs, which is Palauan and means "jealousy/over-possessiveness for one's spouse". So the French subs/dub actually used the word they were referencing!
Lucy calls Atsushi "Tigrou", which is the French name of Tigger from the Winnie the Pooh cast (it's cute)
I also noticed (because of my first research) that the document Kouyou stole about Kyouka was labelled "1-75-81-7" in French, while on the wiki it's labelled as "I-75-81-Kō" (<- first letter is a capital i) and in Japanese as "伊 (い)-75-81-甲 (こう)". The English dub called it "E-75-81-A". I don't know what to do with this information.
Atsushi refers to the Headmaster as "Monsieur le Directeur" (monsieur = sir/mister, directeur = headmaster/principal/director)
Dazai: "Humans can never truly understand other's hearts; that's how it is. We only pretend to understand."
Today's quotes:
VF: Hé, Atsushi!~ Viens ici, j'ai un cadeau pour toi! (Hey, Atsushi!~ Come here, I got a gift for you!) Eng: Hey, Atsushi! Gather 'round!
VF: Mais je t'assure qu'un jour tu connaîtras le monde extérieur. Quand ce moment sera venu, nourris ta haine pour moi... et ne hais surtout pas ce que tu es. (But I assure you you will one day know the outside world. When that time comes, feed your hatred towards me... and, above all, never hate what you are.) Eng: One day you'll leave for the outside world. When you do, Atsushi, hate me. Never hate yourself.

Hey fellow aviation people, check out iloveahangar because their merch, especially their shoes, are insane!!!
They have high-top (and even more low-tops) for tons of popular aircraft squadrons and individual planes themselves fit with logos and paint schemes and accurate serial numbers. You can get most of them with either black or white sides/laces.
They’ve got F-14 Tomcats squadrons, U-2, A-10 squadrons, Tuskegee Airmen aircraft, individual SR-71s, individual B-17s, individual P-51s, and soooooo many more to choose from.
For my F-14 Tomcat people, they have the following squadrons (that I’ve seen):
VF-1 WolfPack
VF-2 Bounty Hunters
VF-31 Tomcatters
VF-41 Black Aces
VF-84 Jolly Rogers
VF-143 Pukin’ Dogs
I was hoping they’d have VF-213 Black Lions and VF-114 Fighting Aardvarks, but maybe it’s for the best they don’t because then I would have to buy them both IMMEDIATELY on top of the pair I already bought.
For my Masters of the Air friends, they have a collaboration with the 100th Bomb Group Foundation where you can custom make your own pair of B-17 Flying Fortress high top shoes. They also have some of the most popular aircraft in the group’s history with the nose art, for example: “Our Baby”, “Our Gal Sal”, “Rosie’s Riveters”, and “Alice From Dallas.” They come in drab green and some are in silver!
I just got a custom pair of these with the B-17 serial number 42-3393 Just-a-Snappin’ and I am soooo excited to wear these to EAA!!
I recommend browsing some of the individual collections for particular museums and historical foundations by going to the three lines and selecting “Museums and Collections”. Check out some of the others I mentioned below and check out their website for tons more, including other products like bags and duffels and wall art!
#SERIOUSLY GUYS GO CHECK THEM OUT#airplanes#aviation#wwii#f-14 tomcat#b 17 flying fortress#masters of the air#top gun#p 51 mustang#p-38 Lightning#sr 71 blackbird#a 10 warthog#tons more#I would cry if they had a VF-213 or VF-114
