A Little Rant...
On Wednesday the 13th of February, I attended my first concert here in Copenhagen, Denmark. Attending concerts is one of my favourite things and I thought it was important to not fall out of the sort of routine that I had going back home. I wanted to live my normal life while also adapting to the Danish lifestyle, as every day that goes by, I learn how different it really is.
I saw Billie Eilish at the VEGA Musikkens Hus. Originally, I was supposed to attend the concert with two of my best friends from back in Scotland but could not make it due to being busy with university. I was slightly worried that I wasn’t going to find anyone who was going to want to take the two tickets. I had posted on Twitter as I knew that was a good way to reach people since I was still going to the concert so it wasn’t causing any issues when it came to selling the tickets, or scamming people or whatever, not that I would do that. Anyways, I was lucky enough to find out one of my flat mates was interested in Billie and so, I asked her to come along. To find someone who was able to take the third ticket, I posted on the page that we created during the welcome week for exchange students and found one of the girls from the group that was interested.
Going to the venue wasn’t an issue as there are buses that travel around Copenhagen, and if you have a bike then you can obviously use that because well it is Copenhagen after all. I will make a post on transport here in Copenhagen as I feel like that is a key thing to speak about if you aren’t interested in buying a bike as sometimes it can be expensive to buy a bike. Especially if you don’t know where to look.
The venue itself was a decent size and was very accommodating. It reminded me of a venue back home, the corn exchange, but just on a smaller scale. Anyway, the point of this blog post was to speak about doing things that you are familiar with but as well as creating new experiences; in my case, attending concerts is something I love doing with my friends and I was excited to be able to have this opportunity to do it whilst being here in Denmark. It meant that I was able to make new friends, which I have been doing since I got here, and hang out with them whilst doing something I love, and I was also seeing an artist that I love, which is always a plus side to going to concerts.
I feel like when you are abroad for a long period of time, its important to do things that are familiar to you and what you are comfortable with so that you are at less of a risk of getting home sick. However, it is obviously still very important to do things that are out of your comfort zone as you are in a new country, and you might never get this experience again. Being home sick isn’t really something that has properly hit me yet, besides when I had the cold 2 weeks ago (go figure, just my luck). When you’re sick, you just want to be in the comfort of your own bed and home, which I didn’t really feel whilst being in my own flat. I sort of felt guilty because I was missing out on things like night’s out and going exploring, when in reality, I shouldn’t have felt like that because I still have over 4 more months here; I have plenty of time to explore and it isn’t like I haven’t been exploring yet.
I think it’s important to yes of course, push yourself out of your comfort zone, but you also need to surround yourself with some similarities and things that you find comfort in. I think I am lucky that I met two girls from back home, so I am not completely alone even though I met them here (shout out to Alyx and Kimberly). Having them be here is a weird comfort thing for me, which I think they can both agree on.
Before moving to halls back in Edinburgh, I don’t think I would have had the guts to do something like study abroad, as moving to Edinburgh was a big step for me despite it only being the town across from where I’m from. So, moving to a whole other country is just a whole new level. I thought that I was going to get home sick a lot more often than what I have been, but I am surrounded by people in and outside of university who make me feel comfortable. That isn’t to say that I’m not missing people from back home, because I am especially my cats, and I can’t wait for my friends to come and visit me. It will be nice to see a familiar face.
One thing that I have learned whilst being here is that you really do learn who your true friends are which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it is quite sad. Especially when before leaving, those people seemed so happy for me to be able to have this experience. Things like this happen and I know that, but it is hard to accept it.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this post of me going off topic… not really sure what the topic was in the first place, but here you go.

In case you somehow forgot he put out an album this year, Pusha T announces more tour dates behind DAYTONA
Pusha T is going on tour again. Why? Look, I know Q2 was like one whole Q ago, but did you forget already that he put out DAYTONA, one of our favorite releases of the Q? “The DAYTONA Tour Part 2” is another run of North American dates, and kicks off in November. Included along the tour are makeup dates for earlier shows that were cancelled due to the dreaded one-two combo of “scheduling conflicts” and “unforeseen circumstances.” Stops include the Red Bull Music Festival in Chicago, Tyler, the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw in LA, and three separate nights at three different The Fillmores. What a country. Check out all of Pusha T’s upcoming tour dates below. DAYTONA is out now via G.O.O.D. Music. Cage the Elephant’s London O2 Academy Brixton Show to be Live Streamed in Partnership With NME
youtube
With Cage The Elephant’s sold out UK tour well underway, the band have announced they will be live streaming their largest London show to date, at Brixton Academy, in conjunction with NME. The show will be streamed live on Friday 20th January at 9:30 GMT  (4:30PM EST // 1:30 PST) simultaneously from www.facebook.com/nmemagazine and http://www.facebook.com/cagetheelephant. Cage the Elephant has been nominated for a GRAMMY in the category of Best Rock Album for their fourth studio album, Tell Me I’m Pretty. The album, their second to be nominated for a Grammy, was recently certified Platinum in the US. Tell Me I’m Pretty, was released through Columbia Records and produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys (Lana Del Rey, Ray LaMontagne, Dr. John, The Pretenders).
Following their GRAMMY nomination, Cage The Elephant unveiled a new music video for “Cold Cold Cold” directed by singer, Matt Shultz.  Rolling Stone praised the video as “[tapping] into the paranoia of Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange” and you can watch it here. On the inspiration for the video, Matt said, “I think we're all very prone to subscribe to a safe, surface level pursuit of happiness, keeping our adversities out of sight out of mind, in a way. We try to fix ourselves to fit into the social norm, and it is so easy to forget that in one way or another, the broken hearted are the beautiful ones." Cage The Elephant also performed ‘Cold Cold Cold’ on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Watchthe band’s dynamic performance, with Matt Shultz leaping from Stephen Colbert’s desk mid-song while guitarist Brad Shultz ended the performance by kissing Colbert on the lips. Cage The Elephant sit with the most elite artists in radio format history - Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters, Green Day and U2 - as the biggest airplay bands since the 1988 chart origin, with more #1 Alternative songs than any other artist this decade. Tell Me I’m Pretty’s two singles, ‘Mess Around’ and ‘Trouble,’ both topped the Alternative charts for a total of seven #1 Alternative songs. Additionally, Cage The Elephant's self-titled debut album was recently certified RIAA platinum.
