I am new what exactly happened

Okay, so. Going to gather all the information from Fabio's biography by Michel Turco.

Fabio's first ever manager was Eduardo Martin.

Essentially, Eduardo's main issue is that instead of growing Fabio's career to make Fabio better, he chose the directions of Fabio's career to better fit the promotion and marketing of his energy drink (Wild Wolf) [note : the brand never ever really came to life).

In 2011, Fabio was riding in 80cc and that's where Eduardo approached his parents. He started helping Fabio and buying him a bike so he could train for the next category. He helped Fabio secure a sit in CEV Moto3 in 2013, with the team Wild Wolf Racing. That year, Fabio also moved to Spain in Eduardo's house.

Fabio won CEV Moto3 in 2013, winning the last 3 races (championship had 9 of them).

At that time, Emilio Alzamora (Marc's manager for 18 years, until mid-2022) was working with Monlau Competition and Estrella Galicia to build a ladder to bring young riders to Moto3 and then Moto2 (they had already done it with Alex Marquez and Alex Rins).

During the 2013 season, in Albacete (so either June or September), Emilio approached Eduardo to talk about Fabio. Apparently, Eduardo wasn't liking the potential move to Marc VDS in Moto2 and the presence of Monster (remember when I said that Eduardo only cared about his energy drink brand?) and Emilio said that it took him days and days before being able to have Fabio's contract signed.

In 2014, Fabio was finally in the Monlau Competition structure and he joined team Honda Estrella Galicia 0,0. Emilio says that they taught Fabio a lot of things then, especially in the way his race weekends were structured. Fabio also got to try new bike parts that HRC was then giving to Alex R. and Marc.

The 2014 season of CEV Moto3 contained 11 races. Fabio won 9 of them and finished the other two second. He obviously got a second title that year. Please have a look at one of my fave quotes from the book, where Emilio compares Marc & Fabio at 14 years old.

In the summer of 2014, Emilio had to go talk to Carmelo Ezpeleta because back then, the minimum age to participate in a GP was 16 (note : Fabio would only turn 16 on the 20th of April 2015, the day after the 3rd round of that MotoGP/Moto2/Moto3 season). After a bunch of discussions, Emilio managed to have the big instances say that "a 15 years-old crowned in CEV could start in the World Championship even if his birthday was after the start of the season" [note : we essentially still have that rule today except now you have to be 18 and 17 years old are accepted if they were crowned champions the year prior].

Now the year is 2015 and Fabio is riding for Estrella Galicia 0,0 in Moto3. His season does not go as he would have hoped. He gets two second places in the early part of the season but finishes 10th and has a couple of crashes, ends up beat by his teammate Jorge Navarro.

Here's what Emilio had to say about the situation : "The issue wasn't Fabio but this Eduardo, taking care of him. [...] He didn't know much about racing. He only had one thing in mind : to see Fabio on top of every practice session. He wanted him to win before he had even learnt what had to be learned. This attitude didn't benefice anyone."

Mid-season, Emilio said : "His results until now have exceeded our expectations. The objective of the first half of the season is to gain experience. Some people seem to forget that he's only 16 years old."

As the season progresses, tensions rise between Eduardo and Emilio. Eduardo wants to take Fabio to Leopard Racing (they were on top of the Moto3 Championship with Danny Kent then) while other team managers are interested in Fabio, including Aki Ajo. Aki said that he was really interested in getting Fabio and that he did a lot of efforts to have him in his team. He said : "I remember that it was a real challenge and that insisted a lot, I was convinced that we could do something to help him. When I met him in my office, I immediately felt like he was the type of guy I would really like to work with. I think that he felt the same thing then but there were other reasons, coming from his management or elsewhere, that made this not happen."

Towards the end of August, in Misano, Fabio gets a double fracture in his right ankle and shortens his first Moto3 season. Fabio wasn't doing well then but that's when he met Tom, please see some of my other favorite quotes.

At the end of 2015, Fabio leaves the Monlau structure. Back then, Eduardo justified it by saying this : "When we started renegotiating the contract with Alzamora, the question of our liberties for the future came. The contract we were offered was engaging us for a longer time than I wished for Fabio. Leopard was giving us this freedom and everything else I asked for. The Estrella Galicia project went from CEV to MotoGP, going through Moto3 and Moto2. I understand this philosophy and I suppose it suits most riders. It wasn't fine for me because Fabio is not a rider like the others. He's a special rider and he needs to be free so he can always make the best choice at the right time. The Almazora project is not flexible enough for us."

Also, like I mentioned earlier, Eduardo didn't want long term because he didn't want to end up in Moto2 with Marc VDS. Michael Bartholemy, then head of that team, says : "This guy was crazy. He didn't know anything about motorbikes and racing. He thought he was managing Lewis Hamilton, he wanted 300-pages contracts, wanted to choose the sponsors, etc..."

We'll finish this with one last quote from Emilio, still having regrets about not being able to finish this missions with Fabio six years later [note : the book was published in 2021] : "It was a waste. We had sponsors like Estrella Galicia who had already invested a lot in the project. They were counting on Fabio to launch themselves on the international market, notably the French market. Everything fell through because of a manager not very clear-sighted... At the same time, this taught us how to better write our contracts. On my side, I'm very happy that Fabio managed to bounce back and that his talent didn't end up being wasted."

and “broke.”

It was the bubble era, and the aim of the book was probably to get a laugh by saying “They call us wealthy, but our lifestyle’s practically in the trash can!”

But for some reason, I couldn’t laugh.

Years later, the phrase “the winning side” was popular in the media.

I thought it was horrid.

And sure enough, people started using the opposite phrase “the losing side” as a masochistic joke.

I still couldn’t laugh, though.

One day, a girl I saw on TV said, “There are only two types of people in this world:

the ones who are chosen

and the ones who aren’t chosen.”

“To not be chosen is to die,” said the girl.

Writing WIP Wednesday (2/14/24)

Working on the next chapter of Best-Laid Plans. Miranja gets a letter from her parents back in Bruma, Flavio and Hjalda (though Hjalda is doing the writing), after she's become thane in the Rift. (I imagine Miranja's mother with the same voice as Mjoll.) Nope, sorry, nothing mushy for VD Day. lol

“Hey, why don’t we sit down over there just long enough for you to read that,” he suggested. “The ground is too uneven to not pay attention to where you’re going.”

“Okay,” Miranja agreed. She was in a hurry, but not so much of one that she couldn’t take time to really absorb what her parents had to say.

Of course, it started off with praise and congratulations on being honored with the title Thane of Riften. Miranja could hear her mother’s sing-song voice in her head as she read.

Dearest Miranja,

Your father and I can’t believe how much you have done in just a couple of months. We are very proud of you and the good you have done for my homeland so far. When I was a little girl playing on my parents’ farm in the Rift, I never would have imagined that one day my own daughter would become a Thane. (Or that she would be the Dragonborn, for that matter.) Just don’t let your new power and influence go to your pretty head, my sweet daughter. Stay true to yourself and your upbringing, and don’t get too big for your breeches.

Your father wants to know which way the civil war there is going, and whether you’re going to join the Legion. I just want to know when you’ve gotten yourself enrolled at the college.”

Miranja slapped the letter into her lap and groaned in irritation.

“What is it?” Erik asked.

Miranja waved her free arm for emphasis as she replied. “Mama wants to know if I’ve enrolled at the college yet, and I got so busy with the Saarthal thing, and the books, and Enthir’s stupid staff, and the White Phial, and helping Balgruuf with his angry son, and joining the Companions – I’ve been overextending myself and I’ve completely forgotten to write and tell Ma and Da that I did make it to the college but I couldn’t stay. I have to remember to write them as soon as I have a moment to breath and relax.”

Demo und Straßenfest zum Christopher Street Day

Aktion FsA beim Chstopher Street Day 2009

Am 27.6.2009, dem Christopher Street Day vor 14 Jahren war Aktion Freiheit statt Angst dabei. Bei hochsommerlichen Temperaturen haben wir das riesige "Big Schäuble ist watching YOU" Transparent durch die Berliner Innenstadt gezogen. So begrüßen wir auch heute wieder die Demo und das Fest zum CSD in der Stadt.

Warum Überwachungsgegner auf dem CSD?

Das wurden wir auch von 14 Jahren bereits gefragt. Neben dem Werben für die großen Freiheit statt Angst Demos am 12.9. in der Stadt hatten wir auch ein inhaltliches Anliegen, das Matthias und Markus damals so beschrieben haben:

"Der Christopher Street Day, heute ein spektakulär bunter und kreativer Umzug, hat aber einen sehr ernsten Hintergrund. Er erinnert an den sogenannten „Stonewall“-Aufstand im Jahr 1969 in New York, wo die homosexuelle Szene mit harschen Repressionen durch die Polizei zu kämpfen hatte. Tagelange Straßenschlachten waren die Folge. Noch heute, 40 Jahre später, sind Menschen mit gleichgeschlechtlicher sexueller Orientierung noch lange nicht in allen Lebensbereichen gleichberechtigt.

Leider hat sich auch in den vergangegen 14 Jahren nicht viel zum besseren gewandelt. Die technischen Überwachungsmöglichkeiten wurden weiter ausgebaut und sind in den Alltag der Menschen eingeflossen.

Wieder können wir leider sogar ohne Abstriche den Text aus dem Aufruf von 2009 zitieren:

"Wir erleben heute, dass Staat und Privatwirtschaft immer größere, zum Teil illegale Datenberge anhäufen – und auch auswerten. Die Datenskandale der letzten Wochen und Monate und die Bestrebungen der Bundesregierung, Sicherheit durch Präventivüberwachung zu erreichen, machen deutlich, dass ein Verhalten außerhalb einer willkürlich definierten Norm schnell zu Ausgrenzung und Beschränkung der persönlichen Freiheit führen kann. Daher sympathisiert das Aktionsbündnis Freiheit statt Angst mit Zielen der homosexuellen Bewegung und möchte diese konkret unterstützen."

Der nachfolgende Absatz macht deutlich, dass unsere Arbeit der letzten 14 Jahre nicht total sinnlos war, denn die Angst der Betroffenen vor der Vorratsdatenspeicherung (VDS) konnte durch den massiven Widerstand der Menschen dagegen zumindest zurückgedrängt werden. Trotz höchstrichterlicher Verbote arbeiten verschiedene EU Staaten jedoch weiter an der anlasslosen Überwachung durch VDS und schlimmere Techniken (z.B. EU-Chatkontrolle) über deren Gefahren Karl Lemmen von der Deutschen AIDS-Hilfe e.V. damals sagte:

"Karl Lemmen von der Deutschen AIDS-Hilfe e.V. brachte es zur Demonstration "Freiheit statt Angst" im Jahr 2008 auf den Punkt: 'Wer bei uns anruft, redet nicht über Kartoffelpreise.'

Die Vorratsdatenspeicherung, also die verdachtslose Speicherung aller Kommunikationsdaten (Telefon, Internet, E-Mail), trifft gerade anonyme Hilfsprogramme wie die der Aidshilfe. Die Zusicherung von Anonymität macht es den Betroffenen viel leichter, den Erstkontakt herzustellen, aus dem sich im weiteren Verlauf konkrete Hilfe und Unterstützungsmaßnahmen entwickeln. Die Vorratsdatenspeicherung untergräbt diese Anonymität.

Seit dieses Gesetz in Kraft getreten ist, gehen die Anrufe auf diesen Hotlines dramatisch zurück, wie uns Karl Lemmen versicherte. Einmal mehr werden Menschen, die dringende Hilfe benötigen, mit Ihren Sorgen und Ängsten alleine gelassen. Dagegen wehrt sich das Aktionsbündnis Freiheit statt Angst mit Aufklärungskampagnen, Infoflyern und Aktionen."

Also: auch heute wieder gilt an diesem Tag Flagge zu zeigen und an seine Geschichte zu erinnern. In der Innenstadt sind für die Demo heute bereits viele Straßen gesperrt - auf gehts.

German Language Day

Interest in the German language is growing again – especially in southern Europe. This may be due to Germany’s highly-regarded educational system, its positive economic development or indeed its reputation as a whole. “German Language Day” aims to promote German independently of trends.

Until recently, the number of people learning German was on the decline. Every five years, the “Netzwerk Deutsch” – a network comprising the Federal Foreign Office, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the Goethe-Institut and the Central Agency for Schools Abroad (ZfA) – publishes a comprehensive study on the status of German in the world. The most recent survey in 2010 recorded a good 14 million learners of German – around 2.7 million fewer than in 2005. The statistics revealed that numbers were falling particularly in the countries of the former Eastern Bloc. At the same time, there were also countries in all continents where the number of German learners was increasing. Numerous educational projects are preserving and promoting interest in German, such as the school twinning initiative “Pasch”.

Launched by the German Language Association (VDS) in 2001, this year’s German Language Day will be focusing above all on diversity within one’s own linguistic world. Its theme is “German and Its Variants” – which include not only conventional dialects but also the street slang “Kiezdeutsch”, specialist jargon used in particular professions, “officialese” and the language used by the media. At various venues, promoters of the German language will be staging readings, exhibitions and prize award ceremonies.

Luciana Lóssio Shows the Pros How It’s Done in the $385,000 Bainbridge Companies Grand Prix CSI 5*

Wellington, Florida, USA – March 09, 2024 – Luciana Lóssio (BRA) found out she would jump her first-ever five-star last Sunday night. Just under a week later, she stood atop the podium of the $385,000 Bainbridge Companies CSI 5* Grand Prix during the ninth week of international competition at Wellington International’s Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF). In front of a buzzing ‘Saturday Night Lights’ crowd, the 49-year-old rider guided long-time partner Lady Louise JMen to a win she never dreamed of having.

“This is unbelievable for me; I’ve been with this mare for six years and in the beginning I just wanted to jump 1.20m, but we became so much more,” said Lossio of her 14-year-old Brazilian Sport Horse mare. “We went higher and higher, and today I’m here in my first five-star and winning alongside these riders that I just enjoy watching.

“She’s so confident; she doesn’t change from day to night or from the grass to the sand; she’s perfect,” continued Lóssio of Lady Louise JMen.

Lóssio returned in the penultimate position in a four-horse jump-off over courses masterfully designed by Ireland’s Alan Wade (IRL). To cheers from her family on the sidelines—many of whom traveled from Brazil to watch her compete—Lossio bested the current leading time of Nayel Nassar (EGY) by fourth tenths of a second. 

“Friday was International Women’s Day, so I think they may have let me win because of that,” said Lóssio, an amateur who works full time as a lawyer in Brazil. “Tonight was our night. In the warmup, she was telling me, ‘I want to go.’ She’s very strong and I have to be there trying to keep her in my hands because she really likes to jump.”

Nayel Nassar (EGY) settled for second riding Igor van de Wittemoere (Cooper van de Heffinck x Oralando) for owner Evergate Stables. Nassar and the mount he took to the Tokyo Olympic Games clocked in at 39.57 seconds behind Lossio’s 39.15. 

“I think we can all agree when we walked the course tonight that it was quite a meaty track; a lot of oxers at the end of the course and the triple combination at fence 10,” said Nayel. “It was tough, but Alan does a great job opening up the horses and then asking them to close.

“We know each other inside out, but at the same time I still feel like I’m learning more about him every round,” continued Nayel about his longtime partnership with Igor van de Wittemoere. “We’re tweaking our training, tweaking the bridle, always just trying to find the right connection because he is such an active, buzzy horse. Every round this circuit he’s gotten better, and he felt fantastic tonight. When they’re 16-years-old and you feel like that was one of the best rounds they’ve jumped, it’s something we take a lot of pride in.”

Karl Cook (USA) & Kalinka van’t Zorgvliet

Leading off over the short course, U.S. Pan American Games rider Karl Cook (USA) and Kalinka van’t Zorgvliet (Thunder vd Zuuthoeve), owned by Helen Signe Ostby, stopped the timers at 39.9 second for third. Riders from three different countries filled the top-three positions, showcasing the depth of competition at WEF during the 2024 season.

“It’s always interesting going first in the jump-off because it’s a different dynamic than when you go later,” said Cook, who posted the exact same placing in this five-star grand prix during the 2023 season as he built his horse up to shine at the end of the winter circuit. “You obviously know you want to go as fast as possible, but you haven’t seen anyone go yet so the smartest thing to do is to go as quick as you can without being reckless. Kalinka was laser focused tonight and I could feel that.”

Finishing just off the podium in fourth with Otis Blue, Shane Sweetnam earned the Martha Jolicoeur Leading International Rider Award, presented together with Michael and Wendy Smith. His consistency throughout the week included a top-ten finish in the Adequan® WEF challenge Cup qualifier on Thursday with James Kann Cruz.

To cap the evening, Lossio’s groom and Lady Louise JMen’s caregiver, Ronan Silveira, was presented with the $500 Grooms Award by Double H Farm. Additionally, as winners of the Bainbridge Companies CSI5* Grand Prix, Lossio and Lady Luise Jmen were presented with the Herman ‘Kappy’ Kaplan Perpetual Memorial Trophy.

Vereinsgeburtstag

14 Jahre Aktion Freiheit statt Angst e.V.

Wir engagieren uns für Informationsfreiheit und gegen die zunehmende Überwachung und de nmaßlosen Datenhunger staatlicher Stellen, wie auch der Wirtschaft in Europa. Wir klären auf über Massen-Überwachung und Sicherheitswahn, wir setzen uns für das Grundrecht auf informationelle Selbstbestimmung ein. Regulierungseingriffe wie Internetsperren und Zensur, lassen uns für Netzneutralität, Informationsfreiheit und den Schutz von Whistleblowern, sowie Open Source statt Kommerzialisierung kämpfen.

Voran gegangen vor der Verinsgründung waren 2 Jahre im Kampf gegen

die VDS, die anlasslose Speicherung unserer Kommunikationsdaten,

die Novellierung des BKA Gesetzes mit Lauschangriff und Videoüberwachung innerhalb der Wohnung,

die geplante Berliner Schüler-ID.

Theoretisch waren wir in allen Punkten erfolgreich, denn die entsprechenden Gesetze wurden vom BVerfG bei der VDS vollständig und beim BKA-Gesetz in wesentlichen Teilen als verfassungswidrig gestoppt ( BKA Gesetz in weiten Teilen verfassungswidrig ). Auch der EuGH hat mehrmals gegen eine  anlasslose Vorratsdatenspeicherung geurteilt ( europäischer Gerichtshof zur EU-Richtlinie zur Vorratsdatenspeicherung ).

Allerdings sind die Überwachungsangriffe auch danach nicht geringer, sondern nur perfider geworden. Zur staatlichen Überwachung ist eine privatwirtschaftliche hinzu gekommen. Unter dem Thema ""Persönliche Daten schützen" haben wir die Angriffe auf unsere Privatsphäre zusammengefasst und Auswege aus der permanenten Ausforschung aufgezeigt. Über die konkreten Möglichkeiten zum Selbstschutz informieren wir unter dem Thema "Privatsphäre schützen - Was kann ich tun?".

Publikationen

Als kleiner und nur lokal in Berlin verankerter Verein mit nur wenigen Mitgliedern in der Fläche bleibt uns nur die Möglichkeit durch Öffentlichkeitsarbeit zu informieren. Neben ausführlichen Publikationen zu den wichtigsten Themen haben wir inzwischen über 8200 Artikel meist zu Datenpannen und Datenskandalen zusammengetragen.

Monatlich informieren wir über aktuelle Themen in einem Newsletter, welches hier abonniert werden kann. Zu wichtigen Themen verschicken wir Pressemitteilungen an Medien und Politik. Regelmäßig ist Aktion Freiheit statt Angst auch mit einer einstündigen Sendung bei AlexTV, im Offenen Kanal Berlin, zu sehen.

Aktivitäten

Das waren ja schon alles Aktivitäten, die nicht ohne den ehrenamtlichen Einsatz der Aktiven möglich wären, aber wir wollen natürlich auch auf der Straße und bei Veranstaltungen sichtbar bleiben. Dazu brauchen wir künftig mehr Unterstützung, denn unser Ziel, mindestens einmal wöchentlich "eine Aktivität" (siehe linke Spalte auf unserer Startseite) zu dokumentieren, wird immer schwieriger. Für eine andere Politik in der Gesellschaft reicht es nicht 14-täglich bei der Assange-Mahnwache vor der US Botschaft dabei zu sein oder die Gefahren des Datenklaus durch die Big5 zu beschreiben. Hier wäre konkrete Kampagnenarbeit notwendig für die uns Mittel und Mitstreiter fehlen.
