The red-cheeked cordon-bleu or red-cheeked cordonbleu (Uraeginthus bengalus) is a small passerine bird in the family Estrildidae. This estrildid finch is a resident breeding bird in drier regions of tropical Sub-Saharan Africa.

After humans, what’s the hardest thing to make? Right, animations. So: BORB TIME. A long while ago (let’s call it three years, because it was actually three years) I had this idea for a series of little animations featuring different bird species, to practice animating and spread some African birdlife love. Needless to say, the project stranded after the first animation. But new year new me so high time to pick up the original idea. Meet this red-cheeked cordon bleu who’s trying very hard to pick up an acacia flower, but is also perpetually distracted by something. He’ll get it the ninety-night time... maybe.

Red-cheeked cordon-bleu (Uraeginthus bengalus)

The red-cheeked cordon-bleu is a small passerine bird. This estrildid finch is a resident breeding bird in drier regions of tropical Sub-Saharan Africa. Like other members of its genus, the red-cheeked cordon-bleu is a very small finch, measuring only 12.5–13 cm in length.It is frequently seen at open dry grassland and savanna habitats as well as around human habitation. The red-cheeked cordon-bleu is a granivore, feeding principally on grass seeds, but also on millet and other small seeds. It is also known to feed sporadically on beeswax.The nest is a large domed grass structure with a side entrance in a tree, bush or thatch into which 4–5 white eggs are laid.

It hatches from blue, brown, common, difficult, distinctive, dry, extensive, high, long, magenta, open, pale, red, separate, slim, small, southern, and wide eggs.
