Back in 1988, four Uppsala, Sweden-based teens decided to start a band after returning from a trip to West Berlin. Heavily inspired by the avant garde scene there, Big Fish‘s original lineup featured vocals, upright bass, samplers and scrap metal percussion. With the addition of a guitarist in 1990, the newly-minted quintet became part of an emerging local scene that would subsequently birth acts…

Uppsala Cathedral

Sofiya and I took a day trip to Uppsala, the university town. This cathedral is the #1 tourist spot and it lives up to the hype! Uppsala used to be the capital in ye olde days and so some of the Royal Family back then has tombs in this cathedral.

(1) Uppsala on a summer day, view from a path that Carl von Linné, the Swedish naturalist (1707-1778), used to follow with his students, in the distance, Uppsala cathedral is seen. (2) Viking graves, flowers, and clouds in the breeze, at the beginning of the Nordic summer (the mounds in the center and the righthand side of the shot are graves where Viking kings and many other Vikings rest). Beyond the graves, concealed by trees, the medieval church of Gamla Uppsala is partly seen.
