Summer in Michigan, Camping at Fayette State Park #1

Summer time in Michigan means camping time! Therefore, we used the 4th of July weekend and headed north to the UP (Upper Peninsula) for a camping weekend at Lake Michigan. Being at the lake shore of Lake Michigan, always feels like a beach vacation (without the salty breeze though). This time, we stayed at a campsite at the Fayette State Park. A very beautiful place – and a perfect spot to watch the sunset! Anna always wanted to watch one of the stunning sunsets in Michigan right at the Lake - so this trip definitely marks another bucket list moment.

I have watched winter slowly disappear from the Upper Peninsula over my childhood, and it is the most devastating thing I’ve lived through, even considering the hard life I’ve lived. Soon, we will no longer experience the beautiful Upper Michigan winter. And because of that, I cry.

The planet is dying, and those in power do not care. Many normal people do not care, even though they’re watching the world shift.

University as an Introvert #2

I moved to college on August 13th which was two weeks earlier than most of the other students. I had applied to move in early on this work program and in return, I experienced the two most lonely weeks of my life while having to work at least 30 hours per week. It was absolutely horrible; I think I cried every day during those two weeks. I started off working in the dining hall and one of the jobs that was assigned to us was to scrub off the mold that had grown on the conveyor belt that transported the dirty dishes. I didn't even mind the work; the worst part was the long moments when there was nothing for us to do. They had hired too many students and did not have enough for everyone to do, so we would have to stand there in boredom and wait for someone to tell us what to do. Then after the two weeks, I got transferred to the on-campus Starbucks where I had originally applied. Working there isn't fun either. I'm a naturally quiet person so it's hard for me to meet new people, and my quiet is often mistaken for being snobbish or weird. I enjoy making the drinks and the actual work, but it's having to deal with my manager and the customers that leaves me dreading having to go there. I think I would be a lot happier at college if I didn't have to work, but I have to pay for my expenses somehow.
