"the honourable thing" -> demarco x susie (wars of the roses au)
The Great Hall of the Lamb family manor was alive with laughter and music, the sound of minstrels' lutes and fiddles filling the air and echoing off the immense, arched ceiling. A tapestry ran along the far wall, ladies in elegant gowns and men astride horses, hounds circling at their feet and trees forming a canopy above, the colours in the thread fading from decades up on display. This place had belonged to another family before the war. He'd visited once as a boy, he was sure of it - but as Bernard looked out across the merry wedding party, he found the memory eluded him.
It was a strange thing, to be a married man. He had imagined he would feel different - that something would shift within him, opening outwards to create space for the soul that stood beside him. And yet he seemed unchanged. The day continued to roll on by, the world did not stand still - no one waited for him to grow accustomed to the state of having a wife.
"Brother!" An all-too-familiar voice jeered, and Bernard downed the last of his wine in preparation as his eldest brother came bounding towards him. Cheeks already flushed from drink, there was a distinct glint of mockery in his grin. "Well, this is a match indeed."
Clearing his throat, he looked to his brother with a frown. "And where is your wife, Eric?"
"In her confinement, of course. We shall have a son any hour now."
And yet here you are.
"It's certainly a shame," Eric continued. "That it's you who father has chosen to humiliate in such a way. I mean, marrying an untitled woman is bad enough, but a Lancastrian? Anyone would think you were being punished."
Jaw tightly clenched, Bernard turned to address his brother's remark. But, before he could utter a word, their father had interceded, appearing far less dour than he had been the first time they'd entered this house in search of Susannah Lamb. "We are a united nation now, my boy. I won't hear any of it. If you insist on becoming a drunken fool at every feast, at least do it out of earshot."
Eric let out a laugh, the sound startlingly girlish. "Goodness, Father sounds like he's preaching from the gospels."
Something in him snapped, and Bernard slammed his goblet down upon the table with a clatter. "If you truly refuse to be with your wife, brother, then at least don't pollute my wedding with your nonsense. If you find you cannot walk by the end of the night, sleep it off in the stables."
Their father had begun to manoeuvre Eric away from the festivities, a firm grip on each shoulder. As bothersome as the man could be, he would have never resisted their father's hand. Stumbling on his own feet as he backed away from the table, he called back one last time. "At least introduce me to her!"
"Not tonight," He replied stiffly, and as his brother retreated, he allowed his gaze to go in search of his wife. Susannah had begun the festivities firmly at his side, but her seat at the high table had now been empty for quite some time, a marked void left in her absence.
A flicker of blue caught his eye, and there she was, standing in the wedding gown her mother had once worn, sapphire-coloured fabric pooling around her feet as she chatted away to one of their guests, goblet in hand. Her hair remained pinned up just as it had been, although her veil was long discarded, and even from here he could spy the ring he'd given her mere hours before, glinting on her finger. They'd stood on the front steps of the church, reading back their vows to one another under the priest's watchful eye. She'd scarcely looked at him the entire time, meeting his eye for the briefest of seconds only as he presented her with the ring - only once there was no way out.
Susannah turned as her sister approached, Eleanor's expression creased in an ecstatic grin. From here the resemblance between the pair was almost alarming, only exacerbated as Susannah mirrored her smile, seemingly glowing the moment she noticed her sister's arrival. Among these people, she was at ease. Alongside her husband, she was anything but.
ââââââââââââââ
She felt her sister's hand at the crook of her elbow the second she noticed her arrival, the warmth of her grip a welcome intrusion. Sliding her own palm over it, Susannah returned the gentle squeeze as their hips bumped against one another, standing inseparably close. "Managed to escape your admirers?" She teased. Eleanor had always been able to captivate a room in a way Susannah never could, and there had practically been a crowd encircling the younger girl since the moment the festivities had begun.
Eleanor shrugged. "I wanted to see you. You know, I've never had a party this grand."
"You will when it's your turn - hell, yours will be even better. You'll be a noblewoman."
Her sister grinned, bouncing on the balls of her feet and fiddling with the wedding ring as Susannah reached out for her cup. It pained her to think of her baby sister's betrothal - to imagine her married and living so far away. But now it would be she who left first, who abandoned Eleanor for the home of her husband. Here, their bed chambers were separated by nothing but a single wall - but by this time tomorrow, it would be miles of road and countryside, an impenetrable distance keeping them separate.
"Why is he staring?" Eleanor's voice tugged her from her thoughts, and Susannah followed her gaze, spying her husband, still standing beside the high table. He certainly had been looking, but the moment their eyes met he turned swiftly away, suddenly preoccupied with his wine and his guests.
She snorted. "I imagine he's hatching a plot to smother me in my sleep tonight," She teased, flinching as Eleanor smacked her across the shoulder.
"Don't say that!" She cried, pausing as she waited for Susannah to stop laughing, the comfortable silence lingering between them as she took a long sip of wine. "... Will you tell me how it is?"
"How what is?"
"You know... tonight."
Susannah scoffed. "No. No, I won't."
"Oh, come on," Eleanor whined, tugging at her sleeve. "You'd be doing me a favour and you know it."
"I will tell you what you need to know, as and when you need to know it."
"Ugh, you're a terrible sister," She groaned, but her grip on Susannah's arm tightened, an unspoken longing for the pair to remain together. Tilting her head, she pressed the briefest of kisses to Eleanor's temple, lips parting in a grin.
"I know."
ââââââââââââââ
Gale Cleven glanced up as his friend approached, sitting down on the bench beside him with a sigh, elbows propped up on the table. Sitting opposite, John raised a brow - it was clear he wouldn't be the first to speak. "So... Pleasant wedding?"
"This is bleak," Bernard grumbled, staring into his cup. "My wife despises me - and I have no intention of fixing it because I find her utterly insufferable."
"That sounds like most marriages to me," John shrugged unhelpfully, ignoring Gale's glare as he refilled his wine. Towards the other end of the table, Majorie conversed merrily with the other ladies, casting her husband a warm smile whenever he caught her eye.
"How do you do it?" Bernard asked, turning to Gale. "I mean, I have scarcely ever seen a marriage like yours."
Resisting the urge to smirk, he shrugged. "Keep your wife happy? I know most men will tell you that's not important, but if your household is content, you will be too. Even if it means never speaking to each other and living on opposite sides of the house, if that's what you must do not to agitate her."
"Is she truly how people say?" John asked, staring across the hall to where Susannah was stood, arm-in-arm with her sister. "I heard you're the fourth suitor her mother's tried throwing her at."
Since their first meeting, the pair had scarcely spent an hour together in any one go, and they seemed unable to breathe the same air without bickering. That piercing glare of hers always seemed enough to put him on edge, and after that, it only took a single timely remark for the two of them to collapse into a spat.
"She is... strong-willed."
"I thought you usually liked that in a woman."
"She's also intensely irritating."
"Ah." John seemed unconvinced.
Chuckling, Gale reached out, giving Bernard's shoulder a reassuring shake. "You'll do fine. Give it some time - I'm sure you'll warm up to each other."
He let out a huff of laughter. "If she doesn't murder me first."
ââââââââââââââ
A tense silence hung upon the house as the celebrations drew to a close, their guests departing with their horses and carriages until the courtyard lay bare, nothing but the smell of spilt wine lingering in the air. The rest of the Lamb family retreated swiftly to bed, ensuring themselves out of the way for when the inevitable had to take place. As Susannah stared back at herself in the mirror's reflection, peering at the embroidered hem of her nightgown, she felt terribly sacrificial - all dressed up for some purpose everyone deemed more important than her own. The drink had left a thrumming sensation behind her eyes, and all she truly wanted was to go to sleep.
The creak of a door opening behind her caught her attention, turning her head as Bernard entered the room, his frame stiff and uncomfortable. He couldn't quite meet her eye as he stepped inside, closing the door behind him and pausing in the middle of the floor. In the golden candlelight, her hair almost looked as though it had caught alight, auburn curls cascading freely down her back. Susannah lacked many things when it came to him - warmth, regard - but beauty was never one of them.
"This isn't your chamber, is it?" He asked, glancing about the bedroom they had been given. The place was grand, but impersonal - it lacked the comforts of a space truly lived in.
"No," She shook her head slightly.
"... Do you want to go back to your chamber?" Bernard spoke cautiously.
Susannah scoffed. "You want me to leave, is that what you're saying?"
"I-?" He paused, expression contorting in annoyance. "No, that's not what I'm saying. It's just that neither of us are exactly interested in doing... this. Now."
Her frown turned more sour by the second, and for a second he thought she was going to hurl something at him. Anticipating this, Bernard took a step backwards.
"If you're planning on backing out of this, I swear I'll kill you myself."
"Why-?"
"Because if we don't do this, they'll say we're not properly married. And if you fuck off somewhere, I will be ruined forever."
His brow furrowed, fighting offence that she could even think he would do such a thing. "So... you do want to?"
"Not particularly!" Susannah huffed, throwing up her hands in despair. "But I have no assurances otherwise."
"Susannah," He said firmly. "I don't like you, but that doesn't mean I have any intention of damaging your reputation. If this doesn't happen tonight-" Bernard continued, gesturing between the pair of them. "-then no one has to know except us. As far as I'm concerned, the moment you put on that ring, you became my wife. That doesn't mean we have to enjoy each other's company, but it does mean that I won't betray you. So if you need me to pretend the marriage is consummated, I will."
For a moment, he swore he could've spotted the ghost of a smile curling her lip. It must have been the first time she'd met his gaze without contempt. "... Very well," Susannah nodded tersely, a hint of sincerity lacing her tone. Crossing the room towards the bed, floorboards creaking beneath bare feet, she lifted the sheets, practically collapsing against the mattress with a sigh, curls splayed out across the pillow.
He was silent for a while, simply staring over at her as she burrowed further into the warmth, turning onto her side so that he couldn't see her face, just the slow rise and fall of her shoulders that came with each breath. Here he felt like an intruder, the sensation making him squirm. Coming into her house, her chambers - standing here just watching her. It all seemed illicit somehow. Bernard could imagine what his father would say to him how - his callous, ungentle tongue spilling forth a dozen ways he 'should' treat the woman before him - all of them wholly repulsive to him.
"... What are you doing?" He asked after a moment.
The bedsheets rustled as Susannah moved to face him, propping herself up on one elbow. "Well, we can't exactly leave. If we're going to lie, you have to stay." He resented her for being right, but even worse, he hated what he had to do because of it. She turned her back on him as he shrugged off his doublet, getting into bed beside her and feeling the warmth of her body thaw his the moment they lay beneath the same blankets.
Bernard blew out the candle at his bedside, immediately plunging the room into darkness, if only so that he could pretend she wasn't there. But he could hear her breathing pierce the silence, one faint sigh after another, the constant reminder of another presence beside his preventing him from succumbing to sleep. This time tomorrow they'd be in their own house, sleeping in separate chambers - he reminded himself of this over and over, if only to relieve the tension in his shoulders. Gale was right - he would simply leave Susannah to herself, and all would be well. He only had to stick it out for tonight.
"Tomorrow I'll give you your wedding present," He blurted before he could think better of it. Even his soft words seemed monstrously loud in the dark quietude.
She did not speak for a moment, and he wondered briefly if she had already fallen asleep.
"I don't think you were expected to get me one."
"... Oh."
She had given him a dowry, a chest piled high with coin - what had he given her? A ring. It seemed so meagre in comparison that he hadn't thought twice about giving her more. His hands folded across his stomach, he stared blankly up at the void where the ceiling would be, listening to Susannah breathe once more, until she finally spoke.
"... What is it?"
"A dog."
The sheets rustled again, and even in the pitch-blackness, Bernard could feel her turn to stare at him.
"... You bought me a dog?"
He shrugged. "Yes?"
"I-" She cut herself short, trailing off into silence with a sigh.
Neither of them spoke another word that night. Bernard didn't sleep a wink.
But he never heard her turn away from him.

rhcp fave live performance ~ no.2 ~ !!
yertle triology @ bizarre festival 1999
was music truly invented until the lyrical poetry of merging the burping little turtle named mack with fucking them just to see the look on their face with then also doing the cosmic slop? (no)
i LOVE yertle triolgy (for sure one of my top songs i wish they'd play again). something so sexy about a funky funky 13 minute jam where yertle the turtle segues into freaky styley which segues into a funkadelic jam which segues into untitled #2. every second goes SO hard with that specific cali era energy, just immaculate vibes tbh
(also, see 5:05 for john doing the helicopter (no not that one))
#no longer tipsy#stone cold sober baby!#- so actually managed to muster some thoughts for vid 2 beyond 'i sweat from every pore in my body when i see john in this' lol#rhcp live faves

september devblog!
this one's a littleeee quick and another one of those months where i can't like. show a chicken png and go "i did chickens :)" it's a lot of background processes and first steps to make things easier for me in the long run. 90% of this is me going "well i can't show you this. but know i'm doing it" and for that i am Sorry
this month was weird because i changed trajectories a few times. so i got a lot of Little Bits of random stuff done in lieu of doing anything Super Huge. i always feel weird on these months because it feels like i'm slacking but it's getting things set up to do big leaps later (and giving myself grace, one of the weekends i was supposed to work on this was the weekend the damn hurricane came in, ha....)
so remember when i said the prototype was slapped together with rubber bands and bubble gum? so whenever you entered a menu, i did an oopsie and had the player inputs Freeze instead of disabling movement. which resulted in a lot of softlocks where you couldn't get out of a menu without knowing the secret developer menu code that i made for debug. so now i'm working on a player state machine that knows what kind of movement the player is doing, which can turn off when you're menuing or when your movement is otherwise disabled! which makes the movement a lot more sophisticated (and a lot of work to set up and test). this is not finished yet but i've got the skeleton of it done, i just need to finish up the walking sprites and hook it up to the animation manager
some things i was working on was actual game Design: figuring out the nitty-gritty behind gifting and relationships, tying down what events and festivals happen at what parts of the year, writing down What Assets I'd Need For All Of This and paring down/throwing out old parts of the game document that don't apply anymore
and then story design stuff too! there are many story and plotlines running around town and i've started tying some of them down and seeing what can weave in with each other. i'm mostly focusing on nightshade mode, which is the shorter story mode i'm building before doing the custom character route.
and some of the character storylines requires me to do research on certain things i don't have firsthand experience with, so i'm getting that all squared away. don't look at my google search history. you'll think i'm a murderer trying to work through a bunch of different identity issues
next month is going to be Musical Lockdown. i have a week dogsitting for my parents with access to some of my dad's recording equipment and By God I'm Using That Time To Its Fullest. i have other things to do but that's the most important for october just because i don't get access to a quiet studio space too often. i hope these dogs don't mind it when i start shredding on the violin for like three hours at a time. i'm bringing extra strings i'm anticipating wearing my current ones out.
i know i said i wouldn't post music demos on here but like.. man i feel bad i don't have a lot to show off!! here's a shitty phone recording of my un-amped violin playing a teeny tiny melody i don't know what to do with yet
also, psst... no promises, but since next month is october... i may post a bunch of doodles of concept art of some of the townsfolk's scarecrow festival outfits. not doing a full inktober or anything but i think it would be fun!! it'll be the first time anyone outside my closest circle has seen most of these characters but p'shaww everyone loves halloween costumes

Day 8 â Favorite B-Side or Unreleased Track
I know a lot of people reach for the song Ramm4 as their favorite unreleased track, song that the band performed on the 2016/2017 festival tour, but this "fourth anthem" leaves me rather indifferent. Because for me, there are two songs, two B-Sides that for me really stand out in Rammstein's oeuvre : Gib Mir Deine Augen and Vergiss uns Nicht.
The first one is Gib Mir Deine Augen which you can find on the single Mein Herz Brennt released in 2012. This song is special, firstly because it has been rewritten several times and there are three official texts. It seems that none of the three convinced the band. However, it seems that Till cares a lot about this text as he uses part of it in one of his poems called "Warmer Tag" (In Stillen NĂ€chten) and part of the lyrics can also be found in the song Sex (Untitled Album).
The second, my fav, is Vergiss uns Nicht.
Available on the single Mein Land, this song was recorded during Reise Reise under the name "Hin und Her". A version containing two verses sung in rap for the rapper Bushido (who had already done a remix of the song Amerika) was recorded and was supposed to be released in a best of album, but so far it has never been released.
But the original with only Till's voice is just perfect. This voice reminds me of the voice he takes for Mein Herz Brennt Piano version, calm, deep, low. He doesn't sing, he speaks. This gravity is accentuated by a childish music, it made me think of the music of a circus or a music box, you know the wooden one with a small dancer who turns. Underneath this little background music in the first verse, Flake's keyboards play a haunting, hypnotic, eerie score, keyboards that play throughout the song.
What is this song about ? Incest ? Adultery ? I'm not really sure... But, as often with Rammstein, the story is dark and uses the metaphors of agriculture, of nature, to count this obscure story :
Als wir uns zusammen steckten
Mit den HĂŒften wie Insekten
Begann' mich selber zu versprĂŒhen
Und das Feld fing' an zu blĂŒhen
Die Saat war gut und frĂŒh das Jahr
Doch der Boden nicht fruchtbar war
Der alte SchoĂ wollte nicht empfangen
Und alle die winzig kleinen Schlangen
Fielen durch das Lendengitter
Und befreiten ein Gewitter
You can find these two songs on the compilation album RaritÀten 1994-2012. And I also put you the podcast of Flake in which he talks about Vergiss und Nicht (1:46:00 | in German only) :

KOBRA AND THE LOTUS Singer KOBRA PAIGE Releases First Solo Single 'Love What I Hate'
After a four-year hiatus from the music industry, fiery rock frontwoman Kobra Paige (KOBRA AND THE LOTUS) returns to ignite her solo career with first single "Love What I Hate". The powerfully melodic, alternative-steeped rocker went for adds at Active Rock on Friday, October 13. The song â and forthcoming solo album from which it is taken â is produced by Grammy Award winner Brian Howes (SKILLET, LINKIN PARK, SIMPLE PLAN). It is mixed by Grammy Award winner Neal Avron (MACHINE GUN KELLY, TWENTY ONE PILOTS, YUNGBLUD) and mastered by Grammy-nominated Chris Gehringer at Sterling Sound (MILEY CYRUS, MUSE, DRAKE).
Of the track, Kobra Paige commented: "'Love What I Hate' has been waiting to live its life for a very long time and I'm so freakin' lit up that its time to shine has finally come. This song was written in Nashville with Blair Daly, an amazing songwriter and now longtime friend."
She continued: "I needed to write about feeling completely consumed and addicted to the thought of not being enough...the deep shame that comes from not knowing how to pull yourself out of that spellâŠself-sabotage at its finest! Blair pulled that ghost right out of me like a flippin' ghostbuster and we got it on to paper.
"'Love What I Hate'Â is about the paradox of love and hate and the (super) raw obsession that can unfold with the things that hurt us the most. Long live rock n' roll!"
Paige's as-yet-untitled debut solo album is due out April 5, 2024. More details will be revealed in the coming months.
Classically trained vocal powerhouse, Kobra is best known for her time as founder, lead singer and songwriter of double Juno-nominated hard rock outfit KOBRA AND THE LOTUS. Over the course of six albums and one EP, the band charted several songs at rock radio and garnered over 46 million streams across various platforms (Spotify, YouTube, etc.).
KOBRA AND THE LOTUS has played over 800 shows worldwide in more than 20 countries and has performed for tens of thousands at some of the world's biggest music festivals (Rock Am Ring, Hellfest, Download, Wacken and more).

Sound Bites Presents: The Best of Hardly Strictly Bluegrass 2023
Editorâs Note: the 2023 edition of Hardly Strictly Bluegrass ended one week ago today. Having returned to backward Oiho after a glorious three days in San Franciscoâs Golden Gate Park, the blog recounts his favorite sets of the festival. Read Sound Bitesâ full coverage here, here and here; and see more photos here, here and here.
Rickie Lee Jones - Horseshoe Hill stage, Sept. 29; Banjo stage, Sept. 30: Given 45 minutes for her festival-opening reading from âLast Chance Texacoâ and another hour for music the following day, when she played the titular song from her 2021 memoir, Jones got more stage time than any other performer. And she put it to good use. After sound-checking with a snippet of âThe Horses,â a high-spirited Jones read excerpts about her time as a 14-year-old hitchhiker in California and how her admiration of the hippie ideal eventually turned into contempt. She closed the session by playing a solo-acoustic version of âThe Moon is Made of Gold,â a song written by her father.
The following afternoon, Jones and her band played to a ginormous crowd - âI havenât seen so many people in front of me for so long,â she said, clearly enjoying the moment. Crooning at the mic on âOne More for the Road;â playing guitar on a New Orleanian rearrangement of âDannyâs All Star Joint;â sitting at the piano for âWe Belong Together;â and playing banjo on an untitled work-in-progress she had unveiled two nights earlier on guitar at the benefit for Camp Winnarainbow, Jones was effervescent and as appreciative of her audience as they were of her. Sound Bites obviously doesnât know Jones, yet it made him so happy to see her so happy over the three days of performances he and Mrs. Sound Bites witnessed. Rickie Lee, gold.
Tommy Emmanuel - Arrow stage, Oct. 1 - Allotted a criminally stingy 50 minutes, Emmanuel was the only solo-acoustic act to make an audience stop talking and simply gasp at what they were hearing and seeing. Thatâs because he is a band unto himself and he introduced his phantom accompanists while playing bassline, percussion, rhythm and lead simultaneously on his acoustic guitar. âSixteen Tonsâ and âNine-Pound Hammerâ found Emmanuel singing; âImagineâ was instrumental save for the audience and the guitaristâs famous, inhuman âBeatles Medleyâ closed the set, which shouldâve run an hour.
Eilen Jewell - Rooster stage, Oct. 1 - Playing songs from her pre- and post-pandemic albums, Gypsy and Get Behind the Wheel, respectively, Jewell was positively enthralling during her 45-minute midday set, which wrapped with a near carbon-copy of Creedence Clearwater Revivalâs âGreen River,â allowing secret-sauce guitarist Jerry Miller to shine.
Christone âKingfishâ Ingram - Towers of Gold stage, Sept. 29 - At 24, Ingram sounds like heâs been playing guitar for 50 years already. This up-and-coming bluesman is going to be a huge star and he spent his 50 minutes demonstrating why he may very well be thought of in 2073 in the same way Buddy Guy is today.
The Travelinâ McCourys - Banjo stage, Oct. 1 - With Punch Brother Noam Pikelny filling in for Rob McCoury on banjo, the sons of Del played some of the least-Hardly Strictly music of the entire festival, as a large swath of the audience bounced along in unison while the band smoked a bluegrass âScarlet Begoniasâ in the park the Grateful Dead filled with music so many times in the days of yore. âSeems appropriate,â Ronnie McCoury said.
Doc Watson Tribute - Horseshoe Hill stage, Oct. 1 - Joined at various points by Andrew Marlin, Valerie June and Jon Langford, Mitch Greenhill, Nora Brown and Stephanie Coleman offered an intimate set that included âSummertime,â âHandsome Mollyâ and âTom Dooleyâ among others. It all ended with the life-affirming experience of a couple of hundred people singing âKeep on the Sunny Sideâ under a canopy of trees in a light afternoon fog.
Bettye LaVette - Rooster stage, Sept. 30 - At 77, LaVette remains a powerful performer, stalking the stage and employing her raspy voice to great effect. Bob Dylan may have written âThings Have Changed,â but LaVette owns it.
Irma Thomas - Rooster stage, Sept. 30 - Thomas, 82, played HSBâs most-rambunctious set, closing Saturday with a barnburner that reached its apex with âI Done Got Over Itâ -> âIko Ikoâ -> âHey Pocky Wayâ -> âI Done Got Over It.â
Honorable mention: The McCrary Sisters - Rooster stage, Sept. 30 - Rather than a full performance, which they merited, the McCrarys played a handful of five- to 15-minute spots that included uplifting renditions of Stevie Wonderâs âHigher Groundâ and âAmazing Grace.â

It's WIP Wednesday!
Happy Wednesday, friends! Here is an excerpt from my as yet untitled WIP for this week's Festive Fanwork Fiesta. It's uncharted territory for me--I'm writing a new character (Felix!), and a new pairing, in a new voice. While I'm a little nervous about it, I'm also absolutely loving flexing some new muscles. And I would be remiss in not giving a shout-out to @mr-iskender, whose writing made me fall in love with Felix in the first place. If you haven't read his "wish upon a star," you should probably do that immediately.
I hope you enjoy (excerpt below the cut). â€ïž
He raised his bottle to the voice coming over the speakers, but then the music dimmed, ceding to the urgent ping of a notification on his phone. SECURITY ALERT, it read. Annapolis â Kitchen. System disarmed.
âSon of a bitch,â Felix muttered. He grabbed the gun from underneath his deck chair, double-checked the chamber, and slid the screen door back as quietly as he could. He stayed close to the wall, taking a steadying breath before cocking his gun and rounding the corner into the kitchen at the same time, aiming atâ
âat James Bond, sitting on his kitchen counter.
âJesus Christ,â Felix said, lowering his gun. âI have a front door, you asshole.â
James slid off the counter and sauntered over to Felix, and the fact that the man managed to look immaculate in a suit in the middle of a Maryland summer was salt in the wound.
âNo kiss hello?â
âPeople who break into my house donât get kissed.â

KOKIA in flashback - 2004
We move into an Olympic year: 2004. With the country getting excited for the Olympic Games in Athens, KOKIA gets to perform the official support song for the Japanese delegation: Yume ga chikara ('dreams are strength'). KOKIA composes the song and the arrangement is done by composer Akira Senju, a collaboration outside the J-pop world.
Her other single this year, so much love for youâĄ, gets a spring live tour, attendance decided by lottery among people who bought the single. Both singles end up on her new album Uta ga chikara ('songs are strength'), marking the third year in a row KOKIA releases a full album.
In the spirit of the Olympic motto of 'faster, higher, stronger', KOKIA adds 'longer' in a long tone challenge on TV, showing off her opera roots.

First Five Lines Tag Game
@sky-neverending tagged me but I have no one else to tag, so I'm gonna do the thing and then just end it there. Have fun.
One: Untitiled Kidnapped MHA Fic - Dadzawa and Shinson
Sunlight through the old newspaper covering the cracked window painted the room in a sickly shade of yellow, interspersed with shafts of light colored in the rich hues of warm amber and delicate blues where the paper had torn or rotted away. The eastern-facing window on the sixth floor caught the first glimpses of light with every sunrise, revealing motes of dust that hung in the stagnant air, the barren walls and floor illuminated by an almost ethereal glow.
Two: A Leg Man - Bluegilly/Ideo One Piece Fic
Between the bustle of people and the cacophony of music, Ideo was beginning to seriously wonder why he didnât fight harder to stay behind and watch the ship. He hated parties, and what was a festival if not an island-wide party?
Three: Who's the Bitch Now? - Gage/Mason Fallout 4 Fic, follow-up to "Strategic Losses" (a very nsfw dead dove fic) on my ao3
âWell, well, well⊠if it ainât the Overbossâ bitch.â Gage let Masonâs cocky grin and sneer roll right off him. He knew better than to rise to the Pack leaderâs bait, to give Mason a chance to wedge a metaphorical knife into Gageâs armor.
Four: Untitled Migraine MHA Fic - Dadzawa and Shinson
Halfway through dinner, Shouta's cellphone started ringing, the simple, factory standard ringtone causing his heartbeat to kick up in anxiety in the way seldom else did. There were few reasons for people to call his personal cell, and fewer people who had the number.
Five: Prequel to the Untitled Kidnapped MHA fic - Dadzawa and Shinson
Sitting among hundreds of other UA Hero Course hopefuls, Hitoshi felt his heart sink lower and lower in his chest. The way Present Mic was explaining the practical exam, it looked like they'd be fighting fake villains. Robots⊠Fuck.

It's as if we just exited film awards season and now we are in Emmy For Your Consideration (FYC) season and there is already talk about possible 2024 Oscar nominees with the excellent Ben Affleck directed AIR (an interesting and engaging look at how the Michael Jordan collaboration changed the landscape for Nike and athlete campaigns forever) being bandied about. Cannes Film Festival is in May, but before that we can see some of the more pedestrian films that will be adorning theater marquees in coming months thanks CinemaCon - the annual showcase for theater owners.
Hopefully no one will be getting served with legal papers this year!
CinemaCon's schedule
April 24 is International Day where there will be panels discussing the global disruption due to the pandemic, global box office and movie marketing.
Honored during International Day will be producer Barbara and her brother Andres "Andy" Muschietti (THE FLASH) as International Filmmakers of the Year and AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER will be honored with the Comscore International Box Office Achievement Award.
Sony Pictures is the studio to kick off the event. While they have not named a spotlight film, it's likely films that will be touted are: SPIDERMAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE and SPIDERMAN: BEYOND THE SPIDERVERSE
(trailer for the former will drop Tuesday) ,the sex comedy NO HARD FEELINGS starring Jennifer Lawrence, the live-action HAROLD AND THE PURPLE CRAYON, Neil Bomkamp's GRAN TURISMO live-action adaptation that stars Orlando Bloom so you know it will be pants, EQUALIZER 3, KRAVEN THE HUNTER, the untitled GHOSTBUSTERS sequel, Dakota Johnson's MADAME WEB
The rest of the sked
Tuesday: Will be Warner Bros. who are celebrating their 100th anniversary.
Films likely to be showcased include no-brainers like BARBIE, MEG 2: THE TRENCH, THE NUN 2, BLUE BEETLE,
Whose trailer drops tomorrow
AQUAMAN AND THE LOST KINGDOM, a Timothee Chalamet double-header with DUNE PART TWO
and the musical WONKA, THE COLOR PURPLE, the sequel to GODZILLA vs. KONG, Bong-Joon Ho's MICKEY 17 starring the very talented, but face like a parking meter Robert Pattinson.
They will have a special screening and it will likely be THE FLASH.
Wednesday will be The Walt Disney Company. Thanks to their acquisitions Disney doesn't just mean their Disney branding but 20th Century and Searchlight.
Films likely to be showcased: A HAUNTING IN VENICE, Gareth Edwards TRUE LOVE, Taika Waititi's NEXT GOAL WINS, Jonathan Majors MAGAZINE DREAMS, PETER PAN & WENDY, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3, THE LITTLE MERMAID, ELEMENTAL, INDIANA JONES AND THE DIAL OF DESTINY (which will premiere at Cannes), THEATER CAMP, THE HAUNTED MANSION, THE MARVELS
and SNOW WHITE.
The evening Universal and Focus Features will highlight their upcoming slate.
Films likely to be showcased: OPPENHEIMER, FAST X, STRAYS, POLITE SOCIETY, Alexander Payne's THE HOLDOVERS, BOOK CLUB: THE NEXT CHAPTER, the animated RUBY GELMAN: TEENAGE KRAKEN, the adaptation of the 80s series THE FALL GUY cleverly titled THE FALL GUY starring Ryan Gosling, KUNG FU PANDA 4, the untitled PLEASE DON'T DESTROY film featuring the comedy trio of SNL writers Ben Marshall, John Higgins, and Martin Herlihy (the latter two being sons of SNL writers Tim Herlihey and Steve Higgins). Essentially they are the new Lonely Island, but not funny and no rapping skills.
and Wes Anderson's stacked ASTEROID CITY
Paramount will close out the night with a reception celebration TRANSFORMERS: RISE OF THE BEASTS.
Thursday Paramount is back at the gate highlighting their upcoming slate. Likely to be showcase: The Tom Cruise juggernaut MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 8: DEAD RECKONING Part One(with a very likely teaser for Part 2), TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: MUTANT MAYHEM, A QUIET PLACE DAY ONE (which comes out in 2024 but will be released before 2024's CinemaCon)
Director John Kasinski and his cast: Djimon Hounsou, Alex Wolff, Lupita Nyong'o Joseph Quinn.
*I remember when A QUIET PLACE came out and everyone praised that an original concept was having a success - that finally, no established IP was heading up the box office. Now there's sequels and prequels to this bish.
Lionsgate will have a special presentation of their slate.
The seminal literary masterpiece turned schalmatzy film, ARE YOU THERE, GOD, IT'S ME MARGARET , THE BLACKENING (with one of the best taglines I've seen).
*The skit it is based on
youtube
THE EXPENDABLES 4, WHITE BIRD: A WONDER STORY (yes, there is a WONDER universe now), SAW X, THE HUNGER GAMES: THE BALLAD OF SONGBIRDS AND SNAKES and the DIRTY DANCING sequel.
including a screening of the raunchy comedy, JOYRIDE starring whose cast is being honoured as Best Comedy Ensemble at the event.

A 'distance Adrien from his father so heâs not Entirely Devastated when he discovers he is Hawkmothâ fic. It begins right where season 3 ends off, if Lukanette actually got a damn chance and Adrigami tried like 8% more. Chloe gets a (very slow) redemption arc of sorts. Thereâs also a good 10 chapters i refer to as âLukadrien summerâ where i just kept finding new tropes i wanted to write as you watch them both slowly realize they love each other. Fun facts: -itâs a Long Boy (currently over 300k) now nearing its end (10-ish more?? i need to update this one more often i know) -written prior to season four so while I was Wrong about some things, i think itâs more wild how Right i was about others. Perspective: Primarily Luka and Adrien switching each chapter, with ~guest~ perspectives including: Chloe, Nino, Marinette (as Ladybug) Music: Neon Trees, Fun. A playlist of every referenced song
What are the Odds? Tumblr tag
A âso i can see what canon is doing and Iâll allow it to happen but show itâs not going to be good in the long runâ fic. Takes place six years after current (season five as of now), Hawkmoth is defeated, Emilie is revived, and Adrien and Marinette, after figuring each others identities and saving Paris, are dating. The story starts with the inevitable Adrienette breakup. Itâs long and messy and with Nino studying abroad, Adrien turns to Luka for comfort during this time. They get close. Perspective: Luka and Adrien (split chapters) Music: a playlist
To String You Along Tumblr tag
A Lukadrien Bridgerton AU no one asked for that came to me during a literal fever dream. Luka is a violist in a quartet, Adrien is a Duke, Perspective: Luka and Adrien (alternating chapters) Music: a playlist
Reprise Tumblr tag
An âeverything terrible than can happen happens to Adrienâ fic. Itâs poetic and sad and was written before season five, which ended up being a lot worse than what I saw to be the 'worst case'. **this fic is under construction Perspective: Luka (mostly) Music: lovelytheband
Miraculous Drum Corps
A âvery self-indulgent AUâ fic.  Gabriel Agreste is a high end fashion designer and definitely turns heads when he makes the move to design This, while is a Lukadrien endgame fic, focuses a lot more on all the characters and all the various aspects of drum corps. The buses, the free days, the friends, the exhaustion, the intensity, the fun. Perspective: no one and everyone Music: *I literally listen to drum corps shows when I write this*
Weak
A âgod things would be simpler if they were olderâ fic. Itâs a college AU! Very angsty, overwhelming Perspective: Adrien, Luka, Nino, Alya, Marinette, Chloe Music: AJR (yEAH, that Weak)
Coffeeshop
A coffeeshop au fic. (if youâve read Untitled, you know how dear this is to me) An aged up fic, the main difference is that None of the heroes know each other, and Mari is not the guardian, making it nearly impossible to figure out identities, as they swore to secrecy. Marinette finally got around to asking out Adrien, who promptly turned her down (didnât consider that, huh), allowing them to get to be the best of friends. With Adrien still modeling for his father, Marinette is also attempting to build her own fashion brand, and thankfully with the help of Adrien, who enthusiastically shows off and wears anything sheâs created. The two visit a coffeeshop where they meet a barista who Marinette takes interest in, to have him only take interest in Adrien. A silly flirty AU that I have not worked on in wayyyy too long. Perspective: Adrien, Luka, Marinette
(pls be patient I am writing a thesis)
