every few years there's a rape case that isn't unique in its brutality but ends up receiving media attention, to which the indian public protests and then leaves. it happened with nirbhaya, unnao, kathua, hathras and now rg kar in kolkata. like genuinely at what point are we going to learn and make strides...and these are just the publicized ones

i’m just a girl

i sit in front of the T.V as another brutal rape case happens, aboslutely distraught, full of rage and rattled to my very core. the same emotions i felt when i first heard about nirbhaya case, kathua case, hathras case, unnao gang rape, a new born rape case in indore and almost every other rape incident i have read/ heard about. then i realise that these cases always keep happening because nothing ever happens after these cases.

a doctor getting viciously, inhumanely gangraped and murdered in her own workplace on a night shift by the very interns of that hospital for what? serving her nation? saving lives? making sure to keep others lives first before her? she gave her heart and soul to her country and then what, the country lets down another woman, in another place, another time, another new story. for 15 days everyone will keep on discussing it, then what? we wait for another case to happen to finally take some action? i don’t even dare to imagine the final plight of these young women and girls. how their nation let them down, how they hoped things would change but they never did. i wonder how every day several women get raped but apart from sending their ‘deep condolences’ these hypocrite politicians don’t do anything. how the absolute inadequacy of our justice system has led to the audacity of animals like these perpetrators to increase day by day. they continue with heinous crimes like these, get certain people to protect them and get away.

the absolute hypocrisy of indian society to always teach their daughters to be in check, to come home at time, don’t go out alone etc, because they say ‘ki logon ki soch badalne se accha hai tum badal jao aur tum safe raho’ so you’re telling me that these cases will keep on happening but i need to be cautious? instead of giving a piece of mind to your sons, you’ll just say ‘men will be men’?

i don’t even dare to step out of my home without my brother because how can i? if this can happen to any woman, someone’s daughter, sister, wife, mother, then it can happen to any female anywhere. then again is anything going to change? no. will these criminals get away? yes. will cases like these ever stop? no.

since nothing will ever fucking change, girls “remember to cover yourself, don't wear revealing clothes, don't go out at night, keep someone with you even in your damn workplace….” the list goes on and you know how that goes because excuses for rape are there but the consequences of rape never follow.

well apart from writing about it, what else can i do? i’m helpless after all i’m just a girl.. ~ arisha

Unnao rape: Sengar convicted for murder of victim’s father (Lead)

A Delhi court on Wednesday convicted expelled BJP legislator Kuldeep Singh Sengar and acquitted four persons in a case pertaining to custodial death of the father of a girl who he raped in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao district three years ago.

Unnao rape survivor’s father died in custody on April 9, 2018.

The woman was allegedly kidnapped and raped by Sengar in 2017 when she was a minor.

The court had, on December 20 last year, sent him to jail for “remainder of his natural biological life” for raping the girl.
