Anyways
My life is going pretty good.
After March 2020, my company moved virtual and I’ve been working from home for coming up on 2 years. It’s good work, I’m doing well, I got a raise, and it’s allowed me to keep a better eye on my family life as well, which is a godsend. In July 2020, they decided to sell the building we worked in, making us permanently virtual.
Me and my best friend Drew went to the final indoor show of 2020 as spectators, the Unionville MAPS show. In 2021, he asked me to help out and teach a little bit as the drumline was doing a virtual season at Middletown. I had stopped doing band after my dad had a stroke in May of 2019. I helped them get through the season and then got asked by my friend Kevin to stick around at the school and help out in the fall. I was already taking on a low-stress gig at a brand new HS across town, but I didn’t want to leave these other kids high and dry. So I said yes to part time it there.
A few months later, my friend Kevin passed away. He was only 42 years old but had a heart attack and died suddenly. It was heartbreaking and I miss him every single goddamn day. So I’ve been working at the first school part-time as well as the new school “full-time” because we’re not doing a full schedule, just one night a week. I’m teaching with his protege named Garrett and we get along awesome. We’re both wrestling fans, we’re both sports fans, we both bowl, he’s a sweetheart. It’s excellent.
I’m still watching wrestling, weaning myself off of WWE because they’re such a shit company, even though there’s a lot of people there that I like. AEW is where it’s at, but I’ve been getting more into GCW recently as well. I’m still an avid sports fan although I don’t watch the Sixers much anymore. I’ve been trying to play more video games and attempting to learn about competitive Pokemon (VGC). It’s going alright, but it’s a tough road and very difficult to figure out.
My dad is doing fine, my sister is also doing fine. We’re down to only one dog and one cat now. The cat is immortal, but the dog, after her last brother died, she’s gotten old quick. The poor thing. I’m gonna pretty much die when she dies.
I just keep on living out my days, filling them with work and band and family and trying to have some fun and laughing along the way.

Hayden Christensen’s third act: rom-com star
Article by Barry Hertz  August 24, 2018
What, exactly, should the industry do with – and what does it owe – Hayden Christensen?
Despite a natural talent to both charm and unnerve, the 37-year-old Vancouver-born actor has been riding out a rough deal ever since George Lucas cast him as the teenage Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars prequels. It was so easy back in the early aughts to cut Christensen down, even though Lucas’s films spared no one – try to watch The Phantom Menace and not pray for the salvation of Natalie Portman or Ewan McGregor. Hollywood had no trouble washing its hands of Christensen, his legitimately impressive work in Life as a House, Shattered Glass and Factory Girl willfully ignored.
Which is both the reality of a cruel industry and a shame, because Christensen is still very much a leading-man-in-waiting.
While it may sound like faint praise to label Christensen the best part of Little Italy, the actor genuinely charms as Leo, one half of the film’s central couple whose path to romance is beset by squabbling relatives and director Donald Petrie’s idea of comedy. It’s Christensen’s first crack at the genre, and watching him strut around Toronto with a ridiculous level of brio, you wish that someone else – anyone else –would have given him a rom-com shot earlier in his post-Jedi career, when he was alternating between studio tentpoles (Jumper) and small-scale thrillers (Takers, American Heist).
"This wasn't a genre I usually look at, but my agent said it was a really well-crafted script, and it could be a good look," says Christensen, as he's shuffled from suite to suite in a downtown Toronto hotel this week. "My interests have been more in dramatic work, that's just what I'm compelled toward. It's a challenge to make someone laugh, so maybe I was daunted by the genre."
Dressed in a dark-blue suit, wearing chic glasses, and discreetly sipping a Canada Dry, Christensen cuts a sincere, pensive figure during our interview, at odds with the silliness of the film he’s promoting. If he thinks the end product is beneath him, he doesn’t let on one bit. And as the conversation continues, the surreality of what Christensen went through as a teenager begins to sink in.
Cast as Anakin at just 19, Christensen was thrown to the wolves (or Star Wars fans, as they prefer to be called), with only Lucas’s dialogue to shield him. Most would have left the film world altogether – some, like Ahmed Best (Jar Jar Binks) and Jake Lloyd (young Anakin), did. Christensen, though, decided to keep one foot in the industry and the other in his Uxbridge farm, about an hour north of Toronto.
“I’m there as much as I can – it’s a place I love, and was such a departure for me, as someone who grew up in the suburbs and spent a lot of time in city environments. But I was drawn there,” he says of the property, purchased about 10 years ago. "It was one of the better decisions I’ve ever made. It’s a great escape.”
As for what he was escaping, Christensen isn't coy.
"It was very much informed by my involvement in Star Wars, and how quickly things changed for me,” he says. “I just needed a way to check out. I was 19 when I did Star Wars and even though I thought I was mature enough to grasp fully what the experience was, I was still a kid. To get perspective on that, you need time to reflect, and an environment where I could do that.”
He quickly adds, "I don't know if it was a conscious realization. It was more like something where you're aware of what you're doing only after the fact. Something inside of me needed space. So, I went out and found space."
Today, Christensen spends his days there "getting his hands dirty”: planting truffle trees, designing every nook of the property, swinging a hammer to restore the 1850s farmhouse that sits on it (the shades of Life as a House aren’t lost on him). And while he was once eager to get involved with the other side of show business – in 2013, he helped launch Glacier Films, with an eye toward producing low- and micro-budget thrillers, a deal he’s no longer involved in – Christensen now wants his career to focus solely on performing.
"I do the work that I find interesting, and, sometimes to a fault, I don’t have enough thought toward my career,” he says, perhaps alluding to recent-ish efforts with such titles as Outcast and First Kill. "I do the work that I think is going to be rewarding and enjoyable. ... And right now, my three-and-a-half-year-old daughter is my biggest focus. That’s the best thing in my life.”
When he was younger, studying at the Actors Studio in New York and the drama program at Unionville High School in Markham, Ont., Christensen relied on an all-or-nothing mentality. “Part of committing to something is not giving yourself a fallback,” he recalls. "The best way to try to succeed is to not give myself any other option.”
Today, Hollywood owes Hayden Christensen every option available. And the rom-com renaissance is waiting.

What Senator is Gay? If you've been wondering what senator Scott Perry is like, you're not alone. The Democrat voted "yes" in 2013 to codify same-sex marriage, and Rep. Scott Perry voted "no" when the question came up. But did you know that Florida's 35th District is represented by Sen. Gay? This article answers those questions and more. Whether you're a political newbie or a longtime watcher, you'll be glad you took the time to learn about him. Rep. Scott Perry voted "yes" to codify same-sex marriage in 2013 While Democrats see this as a chance to defend the right to marry the person of your choice, Republicans are increasingly animated over social issues. In a recent CNN survey, Republicans said they would vote "no" to codify same-sex marriage. This is despite Perry's support for the bill. He is also chairman of the hard-right House Freedom Caucus, which encourages Senate Republicans to vote no. Despite this slew of Republicans, there is still a way to protect the right to marry the person of your choice. Rep. Scott Perry of Texas is a conservative and voted "yes" on a bill to codify same-sex marriage in 2013. The Senate's version, known as the Respect for Marriage Act, passed the House with 47 Republican votes Tuesday. It still needs the support of 10 Republican senators to be passed into law. Nevertheless, Democrats will work to secure the votes of the remaining Republicans and send it to the president. Sen. Gay was raised in Kennett Square, Pa. Kyle Evans Gay represents the Fifth Senate District in Delaware. The district encompasses the Brandywine Hundred and Ardens communities. Gay was raised in Kennett Square and graduated from Unionville High School. He then attended Brown University and Boston University to receive his law degree. In 2007, he worked as deputy attorney general for the Delaware Department of Justice, then clerked for the Delaware Superior Court. Since then, he has worked in private practice, practicing pro bono for foster children. Born in Vienna, Austria, Gittings moved with her family to the United States when she was a young child. Her family settled in Wilmington, Delaware, and later moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She died at the age of 74, but she was active in the gay rights movement. In the 1960s, she helped establish a Daughters of Bilitis chapter in her hometown, and she was the editor of the national DOB magazine. He's a Democrat If you're wondering whether the first openly gay member of Congress will become a senator, consider Rep. Bobby Rush. He served in the House from 1981 to 2013 and is the first openly gay member of Congress. After being sworn in as senator in November, he has garnered the support of many Democrats and other Republicans. Read on to learn about Sen. Gay's qualifications and career history. And see if he can lead the Senate on a progressive agenda. While former President Barack Obama did not publicly support same-sex marriage until 2012, he said he supported it a few days before. And he said that his Republican colleagues were largely supportive of his decision to support same-sex marriage. In his remarks, Portman also noted that he often receives thank-you notes from people because of his support of the issue. But what about the GOP senators? Are they really supportive of gay marriage? He represents Florida's 35th district Six candidates are running for the position of Florida state senator in the 35th district, which spans northern Miami-Dade and southern Broward counties. Last week, Miami Gardens Councilman Erhabor Ighodaro made his pitch to voters. Critics argued that his remarks were a response to the election of state Rep. Shevrin Jones, the first black, openly gay lawmaker in Florida's legislature. The LGBTQ Victory Fund has condemned Ighodaro's remarks, saying, "Your words smack of fear." While it isn't easy to run for state office, Shevrin Jones has proven to be a strong leader for the LGBTQ community in South Florida. Shevrin Jones, a Democrat who won a contested primary in August, stood up for the LGBTQ community. She voted "NO" on the "pastor protection" bill, which sought to pit Florida's religious community against the LGBTQ community. Additionally, she was one of the few Miami-Dade County Commissioners who voted "YES" on non-discrimination protections in 1998. He's a member of the Senate Transportation Committee He is the son of the late Senator Wayne Langerholc, who was elected by the people of Wisconsin to the United States Senate in 1994. He holds an M.P.A. from the University of Wisconsin and was the recipient of the Director's Achievement Award for his academic record. Mr. Langerholc will be the new chair of the Senate Transportation Committee for the 2021-2022 Legislative Session. Senator Wicker is married to Gayle Long of Tupelo, and they have three children and six grandchildren. They live in the central city, where the Wicker family resides. Senator Wicker has worked for many causes, including investing in new technologies, protecting local jobs, and promoting health care and manufacturing policies in the state. While serving in the Senate, he continues to serve the people of his state as a member of the Committee. Watch video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PqmhkUeYK8

Daring World War II Escape of a Bethany Soldier
By Gregg Mangan
Rollin Booth Fowler was a native of Bethany who served his country in remarkable fashion during times of war. A glider pilot who took part in both the Normandy and Holland invasions in World War II, Fowler also served as a personal bodyguard for General Dwight Eisenhower and Prime Minister Winston Churchill during their pre-Normandy-invasion troop inspections in Newbury, England. Captured and made a prisoner of war after crash landing in Normandy, Fowler made a remarkable escape and became a celebrity in his Connecticut hometown.
Fowler Joins the War Effort
After graduating high school in 1940, Fowler went to work for Duo-Therm Air Distribution in West Haven. Shortly after his 18th birthday, and the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Fowler enlisted in the army. He spent a year in the field artillery before transferring to the air corps where he volunteered for glider service. His glider training soon took him to Aberdeen, South Dakota, where he met and married his wife, Barbara.
On June 6, 1944, with his wife at home nursing their month-old son, Fowler took part in the invasion of Normandy. Like so many gliders loaded with men and supplies, Fowler’s plane crash-landed on the Normandy coast. Emerging safely from his glider, Fowler soon found himself in the thick of the fight, killing five enemy soldiers with hand grenades and four more with a rifle before the explosion of an enemy grenade knocked him unconscious. When he awoke, he was a prisoner of war.
From Prisoner to Escapee
The Germans transported Fowler to one of their regimental headquarters just as US Thunderbolt and Lightning fighter planes began attacking out of the sky. Under a hail of fire, a German colonel drove up in a staff car and came to a stop near Fowler. Months later, the glider pilot remembered coveting a pair of binoculars the colonel possessed and formulating a plan to seize upon the chaos of the attack, steal the binoculars, and make his escape.
Fowler found that the soldier who searched him for weapons upon his capture overlooked a hand grenade that Fowler still had in his possession. Throwing the grenade in the direction of the staff car, Fowler killed the colonel and another soldier. He then quickly grabbed the colonel’s binoculars and a carbine and ran down the road where he procured a German motorcycle and used it to race back to the Allied lines.
Back Home and a Hero
Fowler’s exploits made him a hero in Bethany and earned him a promotion from flight officer to second lieutenant. His unit, the 435th Troop Carrier Group, won the Presidential Unit Citation for its performance in Normandy.
After serving out the remainder of World War II in the air corps, and serving again in the Korean War, Fowler returned to Connecticut, eventually becoming a resident of Unionville. He passed away at John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington in 1987 at the age of 64.
Gregg Mangan is an author and historian who holds a PhD in public history from Arizona State University.
