This lore is WILD and VERY fascinating.

The SCP foundation is real and every "rule" of reality was actually artificially set in place by a magic book. The SCP foundation has to regularly complete objectives set by the book or suffer a penalty of an additional rule being added to reality which affects the world retroactively. Rules previously added include the existence of sex, death, race, language, luck, outer space, truth, rot, avoidance, change, justice, etc.

Sometimes, people are born with the ability to negate a specific rule. These abilities are how we get the show's intricate stand battles. The two main characters can negate death and luck respectively, hence the title of the series.

Lore this dense is not at ALL what I expected from the initial premise of "guy who can't die romances girl who makes everyone die". It fucking rules.

I'd heard Undead Unluck listed with Dandadan in terms of problematic first episodes, but having watched it, all i can say is, "God, I wish that was me."

Yes yes the male lead does try to force himself on the female lead in the first episode, but like... the second she establishes boundaries, the feral brain-damaged lunatic actually backs down.

So a depressed and lonely girl meets an unhinged guy who is constantly naked, absolutely ripped, and hung like a horse, and he's determined to make her fall in love with him?

It's basically a shonen battle bodice ripper.

Damn, 5 years already. I started reading UU when the first chapter dropped, but tbh it wasn't until the end of the Autumn arc that I got really, Really hooked. Akira's story really struck a chord in me, and from that point on UU own my ass

And now, 5 years later, with only one more chapter left in the chamber, I gotta say that I would love it if we could have had 5 more years, because this series is absolutely worth it

The worldbuilding, the power systems, the negations, the UMAs, the artifacts, the wonderful characters, the fights as storytelling, the multiple canon romances, it has not been without it's stumbled along the way but looking back, it's all been wonderful. The series always felt like it was running from the axe at mach 5 and despite that, Tozuka was able to deliver hands down the best shonen series the magazine has seen in years

I am SO annoyed that it's not more popular

Idk if it's the shaky beginnings, the gore or the lack of yaoibait, but UU never got the recognition it deserved as a fucking amazing series, even when the anime aired (thanks a lot disney, you fuckers)

But even so, we managed to make a good community, full of passionate people who love UU to death and back, a community that I don't see fading anytime soon, even when the series ends

And speaking of community, it wouldn't be proper to do an appreciation post without naming a few of the people who make the community so great

No, but genuinely, Desscaras is fucking incredible. A Shonen story where the overpowered mentor is a black woman who gets to act like this? She's strong as fuck, she knows it, and she serves. I need this manga to succeed just so that Desscaras can hit mainstream acclaim, because she is the character of all time

Ultimate Exorcist Kiyoshi wins "every higher-up in this series is a weirdo"

90% of exorcists are kinda mean and I love it

Damn this is kinda messed up. Language is so integral to culture. Mfer just deleted all languages except English from the world and made it like they never existed. I get that this is "convenient" but in my guts it feels wrong.

Undead Unluck's worldbuilding being set in the real world will never stop being funny to me, there's just so many gonzo implications and I love it. Like, countless people are doing research and writing essays and having arguments about the origin of sexism, pouring hours and hours of their life into it, and none of them know it was invented by God to fuck with two specific people. Everyone discussing the ethics of how we treat animals has no idea they're actually ontologically evil. Dialetical Materialism is a cool and all but actually history is driven by God's pure and divine hatred for at most 1000 people. Learning about the rules would be mindbreaking eldritch horror if any of the negators had a humanities degree
