(@porygon-supremacy:) I'm fascinated by your Ultra Beasts. Could you tell me how they differ from our Pokemon?
Yes, of course. There are plenty of ways in which Ultra Beasts and pokemon differ, but I will try to simplify it as best I can. For one, Ultra Beasts are generally much more aggressive than most pokemon. On Terra this is caused in part by their disorientation from wormhole travel, but is still true regardless. Pokemon have had hundreds of years to adjust to humans and become tamer (largely suspected to be caused by the invention of pokeballs) and while wild pokemon are known to jump out at a person, they do not seem to be as aggressive as they were historically (based on my understanding of the history of the pokedex, especially from documents in the Hisui region). On the other hand, Ultra Beasts have not yet evolved in such a way and will often recognize people as a threat or as prey. U.B.s also absorb the energy and life force of those they defeat (an ability we call Beast Boost) which can make them particularly dangerous. Even when they have been captured in a Beastball, these creatures are not easy to manage. Ultra Beasts have also been described as feeling ‘inherently wrong’ by many humans who have encountered them. This feeling is theorized to be caused by an Ultra Beast’s use of beast energy as opposed to Infinity energy, which is utilized by pokemon. The exact differences between these is currently unclear but there does appear to be a negative reaction when the two interact.
There is certainly much more about this subject I could explain (and much more that still has to be researched) but I will start with this. Hopefully this was helpful for you, even if it just satiated your curiosity. Should you need more on the differences between them I could even provide you papers on the matter! I personally found them very interesting.

This is an abnormally large specimen of this species, right? I was not aware they could become this big, much less that their symbiotic relationship with the mold could extend to such extremes. It is generally difficult to determine the age of many Ultra Beasts, although research in that area is expected to yield new results soon due to the recent development of using Beast Balls in such studies. The fact that the close relationship between Pokémon and humans can allow for the study of such an old specimen up close for so long is something I am somewhat envious of.
There are of course Ultra Beasts that we can study the effects of growth and old age in over time, that being the old growth Xurkitree. Between the various field studies on the biology of these massive beasts and the ongoing documentation from the Ultra Plant Extended Research Station, we do know a bit about this phenomenon. I am not an expert in the subject, but I do recall learning that as far as we are aware, these beasts cannot die of old age. I have to wonder if this may be the case for some Pokémon as well.
Here he is
This is one of the better pictures, he weighs almost 1k lbs. and his shell is six feet long.
Its shell is home to 24 species of mold, and if you have asthma do not come within like 100 ft. you will probably die. We had to wear masks because of the spores.

I’ve been attempting to keep up with the Ultra Wormholes for a while now as the HeaHea Dimensional Research Lab has noticed increased sightings of these types of incidents. Thankfully, 12-13 feet would be the height of a small Xurkitree. From what I know Poni Island does not have many large city areas so there should not be issues of it gaining power. I’m fairly close to there right now so I will oversee the operation. Thank you for the report.
Greetings, I am Nori of the Ultra Recon Squad. You mentioned a U.B. Lightning in the area around the beaches on Poni Island? May I ask what size it was and what it’s goal seemed to be?
Remember to stay calm in this situation and avoid the water. Whatever you do make sure that you do not come into direct contact with it. Someone should be arriving shortly.
Oh Thank goodness! I’ve been alerting the Island Kahuna of the situation so she can make sure the beach gets shut down.
As for it’s appearance, It was really big, I don’t know what the average height of one is but probably around 12-13 feet, as for its intent I don’t know. I went into a kind of flight response when I saw it and cant remember anything after that, once the shock wears off I’ll see if I remember anything else.
Thank you so much for such a quick response!

Infinity energy would most basically be described as a “life force”. Many things, both in this world or outside of it, contain this life force. Pokemon however, hold a very strong and concentrated amount of Infinity energy which they can use as “attacks” in battle. This is the reason why a Pokemon that can tackle something still might not learn the move “tackle”, because it cannot utilize its Infinity energy in a way that creates “tackle”. The aura (as the energy around a pokemon is sometimes called) can come in a variety of types and strengths but maintains these relative constants. There have also been known instances of the Infinity energy of a pokemon, or types of pokemon specifically, being able to “rub off” on people which can cause changes over generations (e.g. being able to float objects, having fangs, etc.).
Beast energy acts in much the same way, although has been known to clash with the more common Infinity energy (this is what causes the “wrongness” that humans often describe U.B.s with). It is still under research if Beast energy is simply a subset of Infinity energy however that is not entirely relevant to the discussion. The main point of interest here is that Beast energy can rub off on people much like infinity energy can and can be most commonly observed in the fact that Ultra Beasts will usually gravitate towards fallers. It is unknown if a large amount of exposure could result in such significant effects as emitting pheromones however I think that would be a good place to start.
you'd think not flirting with random employees would be common sense by now but ig not
context: person comes into aether paradise (where I work some of the time), tells me they're madly in love with me and that I'm the prettiest person they've ever seen, gives everyone in the room secondhand embarrassment
and weirdly enough it's always me getting this sort of attention
day 1 asking rotumblr for their thoughts: is there chemistry here? not romantic chemistry, but literal chemicals in the air making people down bad for me in particular

Ultra Beast Studies
We have cleared out the one of the battlefields the lab has and are in the process of gathering information on our recently caught Buzzwole. This data will be important for future encounters with UBs and will determine If this particular beast gets released back into the Ultra Jungle or not.
This seems to be a calm Buzzwole in general. While out of the Beast Ball it has not tried to attack anyone. We have tried feeding it pokebeans and it ate them! Noted: blood and vitality might not make up the entirety of its diet. When it walks around it moves its attenne around a lot. Does it even have eyes? The Alolan scientists have moved onto battling with it to see it in action. I will wait off to the side recording its movements. Facing an Ultra Beast in a Pokémon battle might bring back bad memories right now.

On the subject of dangerous pokemon, I am also a firm believer in the idea that most trainers should NOT try and catch an ultra beast or whatever is inside Paldea's crater. Not only is it highly dangerous for you, but it can be dangerous to the environment as well.
#pkmn irl#rotomblr#pokemon irl#maple says stuff#obviously there's nuances in there but it's the main idea that's important#I know it sounds ironic coming from a Xurkitree owner#but Xeen was a pokemon I caught in order to stop it from causing trouble and to study#I was planning on realising it when the next wormhole formed#but Xeen decided it wanted to stick around and didn't really went there#I'm incredibly careful when it come to its care and needs and also making sure it ISN'T being a troublesome pokemon#unfortunately I had the misfortune of meeting too many trainers that couldn't handle a dragon type#so let alone would they be able to handle an ultra beast of all things

my ideas of pokemon teams for the circus crew!
Also, some of these pieces are my actual first serious digital pieces (yeah- I made that pomni one even before artfight in July- it's been rotting in my files for a while)
Anyway, this was super fun, and I also made a team for Caine, and I'll probably render it or something!
Now, more details
I established some rules for myself as I made the teams for each character, and each of them had to have-
- one eeveelution: the idea is, since TADC is based on studying characters and their growth, the best pokemon to show the growth of people evolving in different directions is, of course, eevee!
- a pokemon to represent their appearance: since appearances and avatars are a BIG focus for some characters (Pomni learning about her new form, Zooble struggling with their body, Gangle’s whole deal with her mask, etc etc) it made sense to me that have one pokemon that reflects that in their teams
- one to two pokemon linked to SOMETHING that’s related to the character: for example, the fact that Jax always has keys, or Ragatha’s thing with knives, or Kinger and bugs. This can also come from things we know about the characters, that comes from outside the show: Ragatha liking horses, Gangle being a nerd (hence why she gets not only Mimikyu but also two pikachu clones, that also reflect her deal with her masks).
- a pokemon reflecting their main personality trait: yeah, I know, it’s always frustrating when characters get dumbed down to one trait by the fandom. But TADC offers us characters that are very diverse in their ways of presenting themselves, with unique personalities, that also fit in typical roles we’ve all seen before (the mom friend, the charismatic bully, the grouchy one, etc etc). I feel like this over characterization is meant to OVERLIGHT the fact that theyre MORE than just that main trait. And to give it some attention, I tried giving characters mons that reflected their "typical" character trait: a mischievious Gengar for Jax, a duo of shifting plusle and Minun for Gangle, a confused Spinda for Pomni…
- (mendatory): something relevant to plot points in the episodes. That’s how Pomni gets her little Sandile from Caine (after Gummigoo explodes-), or how Zooble gets their giant scolipede (inspired by the gloinks and the gloink queen).
And last rules:
- I’m allowed to twist the Pokémon’s designs a little bit
- each character’s fit should reflect a little bit of their main pokemon
- no one gets a legendary, mythical, ultra beast and what not: they’re normal ass humans, they get normal ass pokemon. For example: Caine, on the other, has a total of 0 completely “normal” pokemon! Since he is NOT a random joe!
- have fun!
So yeah! That’s all the rules that led me to my choices! If you wanna take inspiration from those, go ahead, but yeah! I hope that was fun to read all that, you little freak

Kinda wanna make pokemon teams for pre-portal incident Mystery Trio just for the hell of it, so here I go.
Stanford: -Slowking *Look, ever since I read this GF x Pokemon fanfic where Stan and Ford had each a Slowpoke, to which the latter's evolved into a Slowking and the former's evolved into a Slowbro, I just couldn't stop thinking how perfect it is. Especially since Slowpoke are often found on the beach. -Noctowl *With all the owl stuff around the Shack, I thought it would be a neat pokemon to have. Especially when he needs eyes in the sky. -Glimmora *Tbh, just feels like a Ford pokemon. -Volcarona *A cool moth that may be ancient?? I actually am not sure?? It's found in such a strange location in it's main game. -Metang *Another "just feels like a Ford pokemon" pokemon. -(Shiny) Wooper *A gift from Fiddleford :) -There's loads of pokemon around Gravity Falls he studies, such as Unown, Sigilyph, Relicanth, fossils of different pokemon he has found, Spiritomb, etc.
Fiddleford: -Pignite *He grew up on a hog farm, so he gets the beefy hog pokemon that becomes an even beefier hog pokemon. It helps carry heavy metals and such, and also heats up anything he needs welded together. -Porygon 2 *For computer stuff and whatnot. Also, when it evolves into Porygon-Z, it's stated in it's pokedex that "Its programming was modified to enable it to operate in other dimensions. This did not work as planned," which ends up making it glitchy af. -Chimecho *It's pokedex entry says "Its cries echo inside its hollow body to emerge as beautiful notes for startling and repelling foes," so it's a helpful lil' pokemon for Fiddleford to have. -Mudsdale *GIVE THAT MAN A HORSE >:( -Sunflora *He seems like he would have a Sunflora. Someone who could help with chores or just relax with. -Beheeyem *"With its psychic powers, it rewrites its opponents’ memories. You, too, may have already had your memories rewritten." :)))
Stanley: -Slowbro *Basically the same as I wrote under Stanford's Slowking. -Garbodor *I remember a lot of people really disliking this pokemon when people first saw it, so I can definitely see Stanley finding a Trubbish alone in an alley and immediately adopting it on the spot. -Vigoroth *Idk, it- along with Slakoth and Slaking- just feels like a Stan pokemon. -Purrloin *A pokemon that would help in swindling / pickpocketing some money. "They steal from people for fun, but their victims can't help but forgive them. Their deceptively cute act is perfect." -Only has four pokemon for now. Costs quite a bit to get pokeballs and some food for them.
Trying to think like-- how this would work for an AU or whatever. 'Cause I can't see these three trying to collect Gym badges or whatever. Maybe Stanley wanted to back when he was younger, but after he got kicked out, there was no way he could do that anymore.
It could go more into all the different weird, ancient pokemon that both are and aren't legendary / mythical. As for Bill, he could be an already existing legendary / mythical pokemon (such as Giratina), or an Ultra Beast (like a mix of Blacephalon and Kartana), or he's just his regular triangle self.
Besides that, idk what else to add to this :')
For a moment tho', I was thinking about giving Ford a Toedscruel and while Stan had a Tentacruel.

In my opinion Season 3 is easily the worst season of Earthspark.
It's thematically incohesive (don't trust Decepticons, but also Prowl is a prick for not warming up to Megatron immediately), Optimus is unlikeable and bitchy, Thrash's only character trait is cowardice like he's Scooby Doo or something, no good resolution for Starscream, Breakdown and Bee's friendship is broken up because ?????, the Quintessons are impersonal, unengaging enemies compared to the Decepticons (who just jet into space, bye), and a lot of parts are just really boring. (The Fairmaestro episode and the movie night episode being the biggest offenders.)
There were scenes I liked in Season 3, moments I liked, and I liked Prowl. But overall this season was hit by Ultra Magnus' Cloak Syndrome.
You know how in Netflix's War for Cybertron series Ultra Magnus goes on his own to parlay with Megatron? And he's wearing a Mysterious Cloak? And you could tell the writers were biting their lips thinking about the epic moment when it was revealed to be Magnus? But it's undercut by the reality that Transformers have very distinct sizes, colors, and silhouettes, so it's complete unbelievable that even a single Decepticon would wonder whose giant shoulder stacks those were?
Yeah, that's how I feel about Season 3 Earthspark. And just Earthspark in general tbh. We don't get a natural story driven by who the characters are. The characters live in service to story beats, whether they make sense or not.
The writers were like "It would be dramatic if Breakdown chose the Decepticons over Bee. So let's have him do that." No setup, no instances or flashbacks of Shockwave or Soundwave saving Breakdown's life or bonding moments with other 'Cons or anything to show why Breakdown would pick them over Bumblebee, who he has risked his life for before.
The writers were like "It would be cool to have a scene where Optimus and Megatron reconcile! So we'll start off this season with Optimus being mad at Megatron." No reason for it; he's just mad so that later, like the Maltos, we can clap our hands when it gets resolved.
By contrast look at the Beast Wars episode "Gorilla Warfare".
BW Dinobot scoffs at Optimus Primal's gentle and curious nature as he studies a flower. Later when Primal gets infected with a "go apeshit" virus, Dinobot is like "Well I'm sorry for the guy but this strategically good, his anger will win us the war." But then Primal's blind rage nearly gets him killed and Dinobot realizes how much the Maximals depend on not just Optimus' strength, but his calm wisdom.
The episode ends with Dinobot sitting by Primal's bed, waiting for him to wake up so he can tell Primal he's glad he's back to normal, and Dinobot leaves the flower from the start of the episode by his bedside as an oblique apology. THAT was a conflict that made sense, that arose from the core of who the characters were, and that was resolved based on a character's growth. And it all happened in a half-hour!
Like some of these ideas in Earthspark WOULD work if they were fleshed out . . . I could imagine Breakdown having a bond with other Decepticons and really caring for them; sure, I can write my own fanfic. But if I'm watching a TV show and it's a Big Plot Point then it is the job of the writers to show me that, on the screen. I shouldn't have to be filling in their lack of storytelling with "uh maybe offscreen--" and "what if--".
#earthspark#season 3#Earthspark spoilers#spoilers#Thrash#Breakdown#Bumblebee#Breakbee#(more like broken up Bee am i right)#Megatron#Optimus Prime#Prowl#War For Cybertron#Ultra Magnus#friends I cannot tell you how hard I laughed at Magnus' stupid little cloak#best moment from that whole trilogy#oh WFC Optimus Prime screaming ''TELL ME YOU FORGIVE ME'' at Megatron is another example of this unearned attempt at an Epic Moment
