I don’t have a magic wand, says Indian football coach

INDIA ended their Asian Cup campaign pointless and goal-less and head coach Igor Stimac admitted his team needs players with confidence in front of opposition goal, a significant statement considering the likely retirement of talismanic striker Sunil Chhetri in the next few years.
It’s no secret the Indian team lacks a quality striker, apart from the 39-yearold Chhetri, though Stimac understandably wBullould often play down such concerns in the past.
But, he chose to be candid after India lost 0-1 to Syria last Tuesday (23) to crash out of the Asian Cup with an all-loss record.
“Scoring goals comes with having good goal scorers in the team, people with confidence in front of goal,” Stimac said.
“The team produced enough chances to score enough goals. You all know why we are not scoring goals at international level. It will happen when we start having Indian players in centre forward positions (at club level). Only then we are going to have many more goal scorers for national team.
“So, kindly raise that question somewhere else not here,” he said, clearly referring to the lack of Indians in centre forward positions in the Indian Super League clubs.
India lost all their three group matches and conceded six goals in the tournament, the worst in all the five editions the country had participated. They lost 0-2 to Australia and 0-3 to Uzbekistan before the solitary goal defeat to Syria.
“It’s a good learning experience for us. Overall, in three games, we proved we can compete at this level.
“Obviously, everybody sees the missing points when India play. (Regarding) the problems in Indian football, as much as you give that much you get at the end. That is my conclusion of this tournament,” said Stimac, who had demanded a four-week pretournament training camp, but got just 10 days.
This was the first time India returned without scoring a goal, with Chhetri, the lone ranger for a long time, also having an ordinary outing considering his high standards.
The world’s third most prolific player among active footballers is in the twilight of his career and certainly has played his last Asian Cup.
He had scored two goals each in the 2011 and 2019 editions of the Asian Cup, where India also failed to qualify for the knock-out rounds. Chhetri has scored 93 international goals and is the third-highest active international goal scorer after Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
Stimac said he does not possess a magic wand to take Indian football forward in a short span of time.
“India never qualified for the U-23 AFC Asian Cup. Then how will we have good senior players? How can we expect good results at senior level if we don’t qualify for the U-18, U-20 and U-23 Asian Cup?
“I’m not a magician, I don’t have a magic wand. I’m just a hardworking guy who is asking you to be patient, as good things in football don’t happen overnight.
“I promise to take you to the third round of World Cup Qualifiers in the next 12 months. After that things need to speed up with investments, with foreign coaches coming in to take charge of Indian football academies.”
On his game plan in the Syria match, Stimac said, “We had a clear plan to take the game into 60 minutes with a clean-sheet and to bring on the fresh legs, which I was hoping would give us something and get an impact to this team in the last 30 minutes, which obviously didn’t happen.
“I think Udanta (Singh) was the only one who came as a substitute and did a few things, others did not have any impact whatsoever,” said the experienced coach, who is also a World Cup bronze winner for Croatia.
Defensive mainstay Sandesh Jhingan was taken off the field in the first minute of the second half due to an injury. Till then the match was scoreless. But, Stimac did not feel Jhingan’s absence had a big impact on the result, as he said other defenders – such as Rahul Bheke and Subhasish Bose – did quite well.
He warned that players who are “casual” in their approach would not get their places in the team. Stimac also said the referee was too harsh on India.
“You cannot sanction each contact made by India and not sanction the other side. Just keep the same level of criteria throughout the 100 minutes. Here we saw today, hitting a player off the ball, it’s a red card. That kind of behaviour (by a Syrian player) is a red card.”After narrowly missing out on the second round in 2019, India had high hopes in this tournament following wins over Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan and Lebanon last year.

VIR SURENDRA SAI
VIR SURENDRA SAI
‘Surendra Sai was an able general whose unique organizing capacity and sound military knowledge had become a constant source of headache for the British rulers. The British
HERE AVAILABLE VIR SURENDRA BOOK Ramgad Battalion stationed at Sambalpur under the command of Captain Higgins could not be able to face Vir Surendra Sai as he was an expert in guerrilla warfare. In order to crush the rebellion, another battalion of British soldiers rushed to Sambalpur from Hazaribagh of Bihar. Though the rebellion was crushed to some extent it could not be wiped out completely. Hence, the British Government under compulsion of the situation dethroned queen Mohan Kumari and installed Narayan Singh, a distant relative of Sambalpur royal family as the ruler of Sambalpur. Once again the rebellion erupted at Sambalpur. In 1837 Surendra Sai, Udanta Sai, Balaram Singh and Balabhadra Deo, (the Zamindar of Lakhanpur assembled together at Debrigada to decide the future coarse of action. But unfortunately all of a sudden the British Soldiers reached at the spot and killed Balabhadra Deo mercilessly. Fortunately Surendra Sai and his followers escaped from the clutches of the Englishmen. In the year 1840, Surendra Sai, and Udanta Sai along with their uncle Balaram Singh were caught and imprisoned at Hazaribag Jail as life convicts with rigorous imprisonment. In 1849 when Narayan Singh expired Vir Surendra Sai was still a prisoner at Hazaribag Jail. On 30th July 1857 at the time of Sepoy Mutiny, the rebellious sepoys forcibly dashed inside the Hazaribag Jail and freed Surendra Sai along with 32 prisoners. Surendra Sai returned to Sambalpur and organised the people to fight against the Britishers. In 1861 Major Impey was appointed as the Deputy Commissioner of Sambalpur. He followed the policy of peace instead of war and stopped fighting with Surendra Sai. The mutineers who surrendered themselves were pardoned and their confiscated properties were restored to them. When the brothers and only son of Vir Surendra Sai surrendered, Major Impey treated them with respect and dignity and allowed them to stay at their village Khinda. On 16th May 1862 Surendra Sai met Major Impey inside the dense forest at night and surrendered himself. He was also allowed to stay in his village. In 1863 Major Impey expired and after his death the political situation of Sambalpur completely changed. In place of Major Impey, Captain Cumberledge became the Deputy Commissioner of Sambalpur. He did not prefer to follow the policy of peace. In order to crush the rebellion from the bud, Captain Cumberledge conspired with Captain Stewart and Mr. Berryel and ransacked the hideout of Vir Surendra Sai on 23rd January 1864 at midnight while he was asleep with his relatives and made them captives. They were taken to Rayapur at the dead hour of the night. Later on Vir Surendra Sai and his family members were sent to Nagpur Jail and finally to Asirgad Fort in the year 1866. On 28th February 1884 Vir Surendra Sai breathed his last inside the Asirgad Fort prison..

ISL 2021-22: Bengaluru FC looks to start new season on a high
Bengaluru FC will look to put two seasons of disappointment behind as it begins its 2021-22 Indian Super League campaign against NorthEast United FC at Bambolim in Goa on Saturday. Last season was especially hard, as the club finished seventh, largely playing uninspiring and one-dimensional football. Unsurprisingly Marco Pezzaiuoli, the new head coach, has made “playing a better kind of…

ISL 2019-20: Bengaluru FC's absence of assaulting effectiveness in the definite third, unfaltering Subrata Pal help careless Jamshedpur FC escape with a draw.
Jamshedpur FC jumped to the highest point of the Indian Super League (ISL) standings with a goalless draw at the JRD Tata Sports Complex against protecting bosses Bengaluru FC, while the two groups proceed with their unbeaten streak.

0-2, 0-2, 0-0, 0-3, 0-4, 2-5, 1-4. India’s results at the AFC Asian Cup since their previous victory in the competition, way back in 1964, make for bad reading. There was little reason for Indians to believe their 2019 adventure in UAE would yield drastically different results.

Hung Thinh Friendly Football Tournament: India suffer 0-3 defeat to Vietnam

Sep 28, 2022 09:11 IST New Delhi , September 28 (AF): India lost 0-3 to hosts Vietnam in their second and final match of the Hung Thinh Friendly Football Tournament at the Thing Nhat Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City. The match was held on Tuesday. The opening exchanges saw India get off on the front foot, winning the first corner of the game, one that Sunil Chhetri swung in for Anirudh Thapa, who was lurking inside the six-yard-box, but the ball evaded the latter. At the other end, Nguyen Cong Phuong of Vietnam was played into the Indian box on the left, and was looking to put in a dangerous cut-back, but Blue Tigers centre-back Sandesh Jhingan was on hand to avert the danger. The hosts did not take too long to jump into the lead when a clearance from a Vietnam corner fell kindly for Phan Van Duc, who did well to volley it home with his back turned towards the goal, giving his side the lead in the 10th minute. Despite the lead, Vietnam did not sit back, looking to score their second of the night, but that also created gaps at the back. Akash Mishra and Ashique Kuruniyan combined on the left to create a wonderful opportunity for India in the 26th minute. Mishra soared up the left and fed it through to Ashique in the box. The latter took a touch and sent in a left-footed volley which went wide. Minutes later, Ho Tan Tai whipped in a dangerous cross from the right towards Nguyen Tien Linh, but Chinglensana Konsham did well to get his body in the way and clear the danger. Sahal Abdul Samad had a great opportunity around the half-hour mark when Udanta played it to him inside the box, as he stepped past his marker and tried to cross it, but the ball went straight to Vietnam keeper Tran Nguyen Manh. Blue Tigers head coach Igor Stimac was forced into an early substitution when Sahal hobbled off with an injury, and was replaced by Rahul KP. India had their best chance of the first half with just about a minute of regulation time left on the clock, when an Akash Mishra cross from the left found an unmarked Sunil Chhetri inside the six-yard box. The India captain attempted to flick his header in off the far post, but missed by a mere whisker, as the referee soon blew his whistle signalling the lemon break. Vietnam made a couple of changes at the start of the second half, and it was second half substitute Nguyen Van Toan, who doubled their lead four minutes into the second half. Giving chase after an aerial ball, Van Toan barged past Indian centre-back Anwar Ali, entered the box, and slipped it into the bottom corner. Chances were few and far between for India against the confident hosts at the start of the second half, but a determined Udanta Singh, giving chase after the lost causes, nicked the ball on the left flank, squared it to Ashique, who crossed it in for Chhetri, but the ball was cut out. Stimac soon introduced some fresh legs into the fray, looking to change India's fortunes, as Brandon Fernandes, Liston Colaco, and Roshan Singh were brought on for Chhetri, Udanta and Chinglensana, with around 25 minutes of regulation time to go. While these substitutions did allow India to gain a bit more control of possession in the middle of the park, that also left spaces behind, which is exactly what Vietnam exploited in their third goal of the night. Bui Hoang Viet Ahn's cross from the right was headed clear by Jhingan, but Nguyen Van Quyet got on the stray ball and smashed it home. Gurpreet produced a couple of reflex saves to keep the score at 0-3, before India produced their best chance of the second half. Liston Colaco darted up the pitch on a counter attack, entered the box, and squared it towards an onrushing Rahul KP, who only had to turn it into an empty net, but could not reach the ball in time. India threw bodies forward in the closing stages, and a cross by substitute Brandon Fernandes directed towards Sandesh Jhingan inside the Vietnam box created some excitement, but the latter's header was straight at the keeper. With this result, India finish the Hung Thinh Friendly Football Tournament with one point, on the second spot, ahead of Singapore on goal difference. (AF) Read the full article

Where does Football (Soccer) stand in India?
What's the first sport that comes to your mind when you hear the name India? Not hockey a 'No' to football Its cricket that flashes to our mind, because of its wide popularity in India football has been in the corners or limited to some streets in Northern India, Yes! We have a Football league named Indian Super League but it has fewer viewers compared to the Pro Kabbadi league this explains the scenario of Indian Football.

India stands at 104th place in the latest FIFA rankings. While the highest rank they achieved was 94 in a vast group of 200 countries. While the Indian football team has been doing good in recent years it's still not up to the mark. Sunil Chhetri is the 3rd highest scorer (for their respective countries) among active players is turning old and new youngsters should fill his shoes if India ever wants to participate in the FIFA World Cup. The team should be built around Gurkeerat, Udanta Singh, and Sandesh Jingan.
The reason behind the major downfall of football in India has been corruption and the government's negligence towards other sports barring cricket, Cricket makes an annual income of whopping 2.8 billion per year while football's annual income in India is 669 crores, Football is being played in cricket grounds because of lack of quality football grounds in India.
Unless and until the Indian government looks into the issue and promotes football in India, it will remain a dream to see the Indian football team in FIFA World Cup.

Indian Super League: Bengaluru And Kerala Blasters End Equals In Thrilling Contest
Indian Super League: In a matter of four minutes, Ashique Kuruniyan turned hero to villain as his goals at either end cancelled out for Bengaluru FC and Kerala Blasters FC to share the spoils in a 1-1 draw on Sunday.
In a matter of four minutes, Ashique Kuruniyan turned hero to villain as his goals at either end cancelled out for Bengaluru FC and Kerala Blasters FC to share the spoils in a 1-1 draw in an Indian Super League (ISL), 2021-22 third-round game at the Athletic Stadium in Bambolim on Sunday. Ashique Kuruniyan (84' and 88' OG) first scored for the Blues and then for the opposition. Bengaluru now have 4 points from 3 games but Blasters still remain winless. Marco Pezzauioli, on the back of the 3-1 defeat at the hands of Odisha, brought in more creativity with Iman Basafa slotting into midfield. Cleiton Silva returned to lead the line.
Blasters too had a couple of changes. Puitea featured alongside Jeakson Singh in a double-pivot role as Alvaro Vazquez replaced Jorge Pereyra Diaz.
Bengaluru remained on top with superior ball possession early on but Blasters had Jeakson Singh almost create a favourable chance under two minutes itself.
Ashique Kuruniyan's pace kept former teammate Harmanjot Singh Khabra on check with Iman Basafa looking settled in dictating play from the centre of the pitch.
However, it was a battle of tactics with Indian youngsters making for good viewing. Vincy Barretto and Ashique were involved in an intense tussle on the wings. Bengaluru deployed the idea of stretching the game wide with Sunil Chhetri repeatedly threading the ball onto the flanks for Ashique and Udanta bombing down the channels.
On the other side, Sahal Abdul Samad showcased some slick moves to beat Roshan Singh and cross inside the box. But, Ashique was equally adept at defensive duties, clearing off the danger, in the 23rd minute.
There were some clumsy attempts from both sides but neither was able to trouble the opposition goalkeeper too much in the first half.
It was a frantic ten minutes after the change of ends. Cleiton and Udanta combined well to keep Blasters anxious. First the Brazilian shot wide and then lobbed the ball high over the bar. Albino Gomes in fairness, had it covered.
Roles were reversed as Cleiton then found Udanta who blazed the ball wide. Surprisingly, Sunil Chhetri was substituted off at the hour mark, without having any substantial impact on proceedings.
The last ten minutes defined the script of the game. Ashqiue found the ball on the edge of the box. After toying with Khabra, he shot on the angle and a spill from Albino Gomes saw the ball go into the net.
Moments later, it was anti-climax. A cross from the left saw Leskovic pip goalwards but Ashique, instead of clearing, shot right into his own net. #pg เว็บตรง ไม่ผ่านเอเย่นต์
