Safety for the rich Ordinary people have zero clue just how many tools the rich are using to avoid this virus. The rich are photographed without masks during public appearances, giving the public the impression that it’s safe to ditch masks. But what we don’t see are all of the precautions being taken behind the scenes. Nasal photodisinfection Celebrities are using hospital-grade technology to photodisinfect their nostrils. KISS’s manager, Don McGhee, talked about the band’s use of nasal photodisinfection in an interview, saying, “Without this, we wouldn’t be on the road.” The technology, called Steriwave, has been used by hospitals to reduce infections in surgery patients for more than a decade and is now available commercially—for a very high cost. Event Scan & Covid prevention companies [...] And they are paying for it. The rich CEOs of these major companies and rich government officials are getting everyone PCR (or LAMP) tested before their big corporate parties, screening all their guests beforehand, and taking Covid very seriously—while telling their low-level employees to return to the office. Far UV-C The schools, workplaces, and homes of the rich are being outfitted with special UV lights that kill viruses in the air—including Covid-19. Far UV can continuously and autonomously eliminate over 90% of pathogens in the air (and on the exposed surfaces) of an enclosed room. These high-tech lights cost thousands of dollars. [...] LAMP Testing Loop-Mediated Isothermal Amplification (LAMP) testing may be the “better sibling of PCR testing” and is being used by the rich to rapidly diagnose Covid-19. [...] Fancy private schools, like this one (whose tuition fees are $17,664—$18,900 annually) are requiring all visitors to submit samples for LAMP testing—in addition to daily testing of students, teachers, and families, requiring high-quality masks, cleaning the air, serving outdoor lunches, and a lot more. When you're seeing photos of maskless rich people gathering together, it may look like they aren’t taking any Covid precautions. But the reality is: they've all tested beforehand. They’ve hired private companies to screen their guests, using multiple layers of protection. They are not taking any chances with this virus, because they know it’s extremely serious and nothing like the flu.
-The Pandemic Isn’t Over: The rich know it. You should, too.

Hey Trip, I bought this giant UV lamp but it doesn’t fit in my house. Perhaps you’d enjoy it? Maybe share it with some other reptile buddies you meet?
"A...UV lamp? What is that?"
"It's a kind of lamp that mimics the sun's light and heat. It's something that all cold blooded people need for a comfortable, or even livable home," Amy explained.
"Then why didn't you get one for me?" Trip whined.
"We asked you about it, but you weren't listening because you were too busy clinging to Blaze," Amy chuckled, "You've been far from uncomfortable in this house, and you know it Trip."
Trip just blushed and looked away.
"C-Can we get-"
"Sure."

so, i recently came into possession of a very young Turtwig, and im not entirely sure how to raise him properly. any advice for keeping the little guy comfortable?
aww, turtwig are such cute little guys! i'd recommend touching base with a pokemon center to make sure your setup looks good.
turtwig primarily get their energy through photosynthesis, although they also graze on grass and eat flowers and berries to supplement their diet. your turtwig definitely needs both a good UV lamp and access to natural sunlight. their ideal temperature is 22-27°C with a basking area closer to 29°C, so if you live in an area that doesn't regularly hit those temps, you'll need to provide an indoor enclosure that does. for food, you can offer berries, root vegetables, and leafy greens, but talk to a nurse joy or your vet about what exactly to give. turtwig also need two water dishes- one for drinking, and one for soaking in.
the sprout on their head should be bright and perky, and their shell should be warm and slightly moist. check these regularly, as changes in sprout and shell quality are the first indication of health issues.
in terms of enrichment, foraging toys, toys they can toss around, a box of soil to dig and nap in, and a grass planter tray are all great ideas to keep your turtwig entertained!

Jfc people are selling UV-C lamps for use in the home as disinfectants to just… have on in your home
Is this not the same year that the crypto conference sent a bunch of people to the hospital by not knowing the difference between UV-A lamps and UV-C lamps?
UV-C can permanently blind, burn, and possibly give you cancer - there aren’t many studies about people having long term exposure to UV-C light, because short term exposure fucks you up so badly
You do not want one just on on your home
It’ll kill bacteria and fungi and dust mites alright; it will also hurt and possibly kill you
Think “don’t shine a laser pointer in your eyes”, with additional serious sunburn in seconds
#uv lights#uvo light#uv-c#it’s so much more dangerous than uv-a or b and how the fuck is that not in the marketing material

Cute, cozy ways to survive winter

- buy a winter-ish tea to warm you up in the morning and the evening. You can also make your own mix (I love cranberry and elderberry)
- take vitamin D3 to boost your mood and prevent seasonal depression
- take beta carotin to have a glowy, tanned skin even without the sunlight
- get a good quality jacket from a material like wool or hemp (eco), and yes, it will cost a lot, but it's worth it. It keeps your warmer than any cheaper jacket and will last longer. A tip from a broke girl: I started to save up money in June. Also I search only in second-hand stores. I also recommend a faux fur. You can already find nice finds for 90€
- few times a week, make yourself a little bath for your feet. After a cold day, pour hot water into a bowl and put some nice bathing salts or etheric oils, I usually do smth that smells like pine trees. Super relaxing and warms your feet ^^
- read winter-ish books. They help to romanticize the cold time and make the season much more special
- get yourself a nice thick pair of socks that you will enjoy wearing during the winter
- dress warm. I have a special thermal set that I always put under my clothes. Avoid wearing jeans, for they will only make you freeze. Wear thick sweaters (I love cashmere, I bought one cheap in a second hand store), or long warm skirts or dresses (they make me feel girly and special during the cold time) remember, when you buy expensive, good quality clothes keep them in natural colors so they're universal and timeless. Remember: the time of cute outfits is over, now we're in the survival mode
- you can add yourself some color with pretty gloves and hats. I love wearing slavic scarves during the winter to honor my heritage
- when buying a shower gel, perfume, shampoo or body lotion peak smells that remind you of winter. I go for mandarine/ orange scents 😊🍊
- drink vitamin c in the morning!!!
- choose a thicker cream for your face, nothing water-based. Your skin needs special care and protection during the winter. I have an acne prone, oily skin, and I still choose thicker creams, so don't be afraid to do the same. My go-to for winter is a levera cream for sensitive skin and a black cumin seed oil. I also like products from PinusVital.
- uv still exists during winter so don't forget a sunscreen!
- decorate your apartment, room or house with winter decor. I'd defiently focus more on winter related things since they will last until March. Christmas things tend to be thrown away much quicker after Christmas. There's so many cute ideas!
- get yourself a sun clock. It's a lamp you put by your bed, which imitates the sunshine. It's especially useful in early mornings since we humans aren't programmed to be waking up in full darkness. It helps to wake up your body :)
- get yourself a bunch of candles and light them in the evening. Element of fire has always been crucial for our ancestors during these trying times
- every single week plan to do something new. It can be finding a new song or new album, going to a restaurant or a coffee shop you've never been to before, learning something new, visiting a place you haven't seen yet, trying out a new recipe, even taking a different rode back from work/school, write a new poem, start a new book, watch a new movie, keep yourself entertained by little things
- out of the same principle, try to redecorate or change placement of furniture from time to time. Our brains get easily bored and especially during winter it can be very depressing. Brains need the change to stay healthy and fit
- especially during cold times, a community is really important. Even if you're an introverted person, it doesn't mean you should stay alone all the time. Humans are social beings, and we need contacts to one another. During winter months and long evenings, loneliness can be very hard. Try looking for a local book club or knitting club or any other club you'd enjoy. Download Bumble BFF it's an app that helps you to find friends! Volunteer at your local senior house or even your local dog shelter. Being constantly alone has literally never done anyone any good.
- burn incenses to boost energies in your household (any time it's needed, of course if you believe in stuff like this :) ) I recommend orange incense (brings luck and happiness)
- spend time outside. During the week I barely have time but every weekend I try to go on a walk possibly out in the nature. Your mental state regulates this way. Just 15 minutes of walk outside each day can boost your mood. Believe me, it comes from a person who struggled a lot with depressions.
- don't forget to eat well. You burn more calories during the winter because your body uses lots of energy to keep itself warm. Eat regular, well-balanced food portions. I love vegetarian food magazines that offer amazing seasonal recipes, so you cook with vegetables and fruits that actually grow during the winter. I think it adds more magic and meaning to the season to cook with seasonal food.
- wake up early. And early can be different for every person, but sleeping in every day is not proven to be healthy. Sleeping in causes chronic diseases, slows down your metabolism, and can cause social problems. Of course, there's nothing wrong with having one slower day, but having a crazy sleeping schedule can get you in sleep debt that will not result in anything productive.
- pick projects you want to accomplish during winter like for example my projects are: learn about local birds and mammals, make a little house in my local forest, learn how to diy fairy houses, learn how to knit :)
❄️Remember that winter time is the time to slow down and relax. Look around at nature and see how everything is seemingly dead and waiting for the spring. Don't worry if you're not being great all the time or constantly achieving new milestones because it's totally fine to calm down after many months of work. I know that the capitalism convinced us that we should always work, no matter what, but I just want you to remember that nature intended otherwise and of you're more tired and sleepy during these months that's totally normal. Just be kind to yourself.❄️

Rivers Branching (draft part c)
Ash wriggled slightly in Marisol’s grip, cherishing the feeling of her rough palms, weathered from her years of loving toil in the garden. “Bah, alright. Where do we start?”
“You want to go after the Codex, don’t you?”
His first instinct was to avoid the issue, but Zoe tugged his thoughts back on-course. “Yeah. I do.”
Her grip tightened just a bit. “Have you thought this through?”
“I was planning to get around to that sometime today.”
“Wasn’t I just saying I don’t want you pulling any more stupid stunts?”
“I don’t think it’s a stupid stunt! It’ll be an organized operation, with other people there backing me up. Completely safe!”
Marisol paused and stared—giving him a chance to reconsider, he realized.
“…Comparatively safe!”
“It sounds like right now your only ‘backup’ is a certain person I have ample reason to doubt has your best interests at heart. You really want to be stuck in imperial territory with only him for company?”
Ash looked up at the ceiling, watching one of the lights flicker. “No, I think I’d rather saw my pinky toe off with a toothpick, but the difference between the two is that this hellish task leads to destroying the empire.”
Just for a moment, lines of tiny thorns poked out down the length of Gabriela’s vines. “You’re taking what he says at face value. The Commander didn’t seem all that convinced.”
“But Okagami sure did! Doesn’t that count for something?”
“Not enough on its own!”
Zoe’s leaves rustled as Ash huffed. “Alright, then let’s see what else dear old Dad comes up with.”
“Ash…” Marisol sighed, and Gabriela shook her petals before folding them up. “Why are you so eager to believe him?”
“Because I want the empire gone!”
“And?”
“What do you mean ‘and’?”
“I mean I don’t think that’s all there is to it.”
“Yeah, well…” Ash half-turned and looked at Zoe: she had already slinked out of the pool of UV light to sit behind the lamp, peeking out at him with her blossom hanging low. “Maybe I just gotta know.”
Marisol followed his gaze. Switching off the lamp, she asked, “Know what?”
“I need to know if this book is all it’s hyped up to be. It’s the reason Dad left, it’s the reason Oren died—I have to see for myself whether or not it was really worth it all!”
She clenched her teeth. “It’s not. Of course it’s not!” Vines covered in thorns began to sprout from Gabriela’s stem. “There’s never a good reason to abandon your children!” Noticing the vines, she pressed a hand against their base, stopping their growth. She then glared in the direction of the door.
A part of Ash felt frustrated, but Zoe pushed back against it and encouraged him to take a deep breath. “Sorry…maybe that wasn’t the best way to put it.” He took a few seconds to think. “It’s like…this is the only way I can really understand why everything happened the way it did. It’s like closure, I guess. Do you get what I mean, Mari?”
Marisol kept glaring. Soon, Gabriela’s vines began to slowly recede. “Slipping ‘Mari’ in there isn’t fair.”
Ash gave a short laugh. “Sorry. I’ll review the terms of engagement again.”
Marisol fidgeted for a moment before getting up to return the lamp to its cabinet. Zoe went back to Ash’s wrist, angling her half-closed blossom up toward him. He smirked and blew lightly to shake her petals open; she shivered, made a little flourish with her leaves, and then shrank rapidly and disappeared into his arm. Before Marisol sat back down, Ash noticed the envelope she had left on the console.
“What’s that?”
“Hm? Oh, something Okagami gave me. Not sure exactly, he was rather cryptic about it.”
Ash stroked his chin. “You gonna open it?”
“He suggested I wait until I was alone.”
“I can step outside for a minute.”
Marisol chuckled and took up the letter. The wax seal bore an emblem in the shape of an eight-pointed star, with the point that extended straight down enlarged to turn the other seven into something like a crown atop it. She broke it gently, unfolded the paper within, and then began to read. Her eyes nearly doubled in size.
“Uh…you alright…?”
She gestured for him to wait. Eventually, she lowered the letter and covered her mouth with her free hand, staring forward at nothing in particular. Ash was just about to ask again when she said, “It’s from the Duchess of the South.”
Ash’s spine went rigid. “The Duchess? But she doesn’t…I mean, I don’t think I’ve ever heard of her doing anything. At all. Why now? Did she finally get sick of us meddling with the Earl’s operations?”
“No, nothing like that.” She looked back at the letter. “She, uh…invited me to work on a project with an imperial scientist.”
Disbelief stunned them both into an extremely long silence. Ash finally leaned forward and said, “Sorry, what?”
“It says ‘To the esteemed caretaker of the scorch-wither primroses: Salutations and’…well, there’s a long stretch of formalities, actually. After that, ‘Having heard stories of what your magnificent primroses are capable of, it occurs to us that they may possess a most fascinating potential: could their water-absorbing abilities be implemented on a grander scale, they may provide a method of lowering the overbearing sea level brought about by our horribly-misaligned climate. Since such an outcome would prove most desirable to both kappa and humans, we wish to propose a collaboration between our two species to explore the viability of this solution. Expertise with these primroses is something only humans possess, and should you be willing to lend it to this cause, we are prepared to make arrangements for you to work alongside one of the empire’s brightest minds. Of course, we understand that this proposal may incite an excess of caution, and expect due negotiations to be conducted to create an environment in which both parties involved feel truly safe. Our scientist has similarly been informed of the potential risks and has accepted them. Provided no harm is inflicted upon him, you have our most sacred word that you shall also not come to any harm as a result of this collaboration. Should this be acceptable, or should there be further questions you wish answered, it is requested that a reply be delivered via The Honorable Former Burgrave Okagami Urataki. With most sincere regards: Her Grace The Most Noble The Duchess of The South.’”
Ash scratched his head. “The sea level? Why the hell would the kappa want to lower the sea level—it’s one of their biggest advantages!”
“No, it makes sense,” Marisol said. “Kappa originally thrived in freshwater—it was only because of the rising oceans that they underwent mutations that included adaptation to saltwater. It’s not that strange to think some of them might have a preference.”
He grimaced and crossed his arms. “Okay, but I still don’t buy it. It’s a trap. There’s no way this is not a trap.”
Marisol shook her head, tapping the letter. “She gave her word no harm would come to me. You know how kappa are about their word.”
“Sure, but…!” Ash sighed, wondering not for the first time if Marisol trusted kappa more than humans. “Okay. Assuming it’s somehow not a trap…what are you thinking?”
Her gaze wandered upward. “Hard to say, I guess. My first reaction is just pure shock.” She tapped her fingers. “I’ve sat in on some of Doc’s ideas about lowering the sea level, and I have wondered if there was a way the primroses could help. It didn’t get very far due to the issue of scale, but with imperial resources…yeah. That just might make it possible—make it worth looking into, at least.”
A smile came to Marisol’s lips. Gabriela fanned out her petals, and the line of ferns nearby swayed gently, the motion flowing down the line like a wave. Ash’s stomach twisted.
“This is…actually a huge opportunity! This is a chance to enact real, meaningful change that could benefit the whole planet! This is great!”
Light was practically bursting from her, it seemed to him. He couldn’t remember the last time he saw her so excited. His heart began to ache.
“Ash, I…” Her light dimmed as she laid eyes on his expression. “Come on, Ash, I’ll be fine! There’s no need to worry.”
“How can I not worry about the idea of you going to live and work with imperial kappa for who-knows-how-long? That’s one of the most easily justifiable sources of worry that could possibly exist.”
“My safety has been promised.”
“But you’re…!” He stumbled over the irony of their current exchange. “You’re taking what she says at face value.”
Marisol cocked her head a moment. “I see it more as an educated assessment. It’ll be comparatively safe.”
“Uh-huh.”
“I’ll make sure things are safe when we negotiate the specifics. And if things do get ugly, Gabriela and I can handle ourselves.”
“Yeah, of course, but…” He reached out, gently brushing aside her hair. “I can’t shake this bad feeling. There’s no way to be completely sure of what’ll happen if you do this.”
She closed her eyes and pressed her cheek against his palm. “Yeah. I know that feeling pretty well.”
He basked in her beauty as he tried to find the words he needed. Leaning forward, he pressed their foreheads together and said, “I don’t know. I feel like I should do everything I can to stop you, but I know better than to try to make decisions for you. I just want you to be safe, Mari…I…”
His throat ran dry. It happened every time he tried to tell her, not that he understood why. Marisol gently pushed him back, leaving her hands on his shoulders, and kissed him. “We’ve both got a lot to think about. For now, maybe it’s best if we just shelve it. I will if you will?”
He hesitated, but then he nodded. “Sure…we should have some time, at least.”
“Right. And you should be spending it resting—give your shoulder a chance to finish healing. Off to bed.”
“Yeah, yeah, alright.” His stomach growled. “But first, I need to eat something. Photosynthesis might help but it just isn’t the same. Care to join me?”
Marisol’s stomach growled back. “Um…yes. I think I will.”
Ash stood and offered his arm to Marisol, grinning with his teeth. She rolled her eyes, but took it nonetheless.

Does anybody have recs for a UV lamp? The people kind, not the terrarium kind. I have a small one, but it's:
Tiny (6in square or less)
Missing both feet
Does not hang in the wall
This means I have to physically hold it and it is terribly inconvenient
It uses a c-type cord and I'd like something that can plug straight into my wall or surge protector
I know we're all a bunch of depressed goblins on this site and the SAD is hitting everybody hard, so I thought I'd ask. It's been a useful coping tool, and I can't recommend it highly enough. I just need an upgrade

So the common wisdom with Klemmer geckos/neon day geckos is that you're fine with just a UV bulb, you don't need extra heating because they are fine on normal room temperature.
Hearing this, would you assume this to mean 'yeah so it's okay for the temperature to drop to 20-22 °C at night but during the day they need 26-30 °C'.
26 °C is not 'normal room temperature' it's 'fighting for my life because outside it's like 35 °C' weather.
Anyway I'm off to shop for a heating lamp. (Hang in there Ibu-san T.T)

How should hard gel be applied on natural nails?
Are you interested in learning how to apply hard gel on natural nails? If so, you've come to the correct place. We'll discuss the tools you'll need and the procedures to follow when applying hard gel overlays and extensions.
ESSENTIAL ITEMS FOR APPLYING HARD GEL ON NATURAL NAILS
You'll need a few additional items in addition to hard gel to complete the nail augmentation. Following the list comes a more thorough explanation:
A nail drill or file. A nail brush and a cleaning wipe to clear away dirt. Nail pusher. Dehydrating cleanser or a dehydrator. Primer and a protein link. If it doesn't come with a brush, use a nail art brush to apply the hard gel (see below). Forms (used to complete expansions). Hammer lamp.
You only require those basic equipment to apply firm gel on natural nails. We offer a few recommendations for goods that will do the job correctly:
Protein Bond & Primer by Lavis
We appreciate this soft and strong protein connection and primer. For better adherence and to reduce nail oil, brush on two layers. For a professional manicure, this priming is an essential step.
You might also want to try out the Valentino Super Bond Primer and Valentino Nail Prep Dehydrator. While the primer is acid-free and suitable for use with acrylics and gels, the dehydrator removes moisture and grease.
Another acid-free primer that works with gels, acrylics, and no polishes is Mia Secret Xtrabond.
In terms of the ideal hard gel to utilize, we suggest the following:
Bare Necessities Collection Lavis Builder Gel, Version 1.
With this building gel, you won't need a nail art brush because one is already included in the bottle. The easy-to-apply silky solution is extremely smooth. It is not only odorless, but it also won't harm natural nails. To achieve the ideal look, select from a choice of colors.
IBD HARD GEL is extremely popular with nail artists. Get the right kind of gel for the task you want to accomplish by making sure. IBD comes in a variety of variants, some of which are suitable for overlays and others for extensions. Additionally, transparent or neutral formulations are offered.
Finally, you'll require a method for curing the gel. The majority of brands are compatible with LED nail lamps, which use less energy and cure quickly.
UV/LED nail lamp from Lavis
This strong nail lamp with a rechargeable battery is fantastic. For various types of gel preparations, it includes four timed options. The light may also be turned on without smudging your manicure thanks to a motion sensor.
The interior of the hand-sized mirror finish cures from every aspect for consistent quality.
HOW IS HARD GEL APPLIED?
Now that you have everything you require, let's begin by going through how to apply hard gel to natural nails.
STEP 1: SET UP
Before using hard gel, it is essential to perform thorough nail preparation. Push back the cuticles and shape the nails first. Using a nail drill will make this process go more quickly.
After that, clean the shine from the nail plate to prepare it. Clean the nails and remove any debris.
Next, either use a dehydrating wipe or apply a dehydrator.
SECOND: PRIMARY
Add a protein primer or bond after that. By the time you've finished both hands, it will have air dried, allowing you to go back and give each nail a second layer.
Step 3: Apply the base Coat the gel using a brush. Make sure you didn't apply it over your skin by checking twice. then use the nail lamp to cure it.
PHASE IV: HARD GEL
Just smoothly draw out the product rather than bunny-hopping and bunching the hard gel like you would with an acrylic bead. Gravity will assist the gel in flowing into the proper C-shape on top of the nail if you turn the hand upside down. In a few seconds, builder gel levels out and settles.
Only allow the hard gel to cure for 30 seconds if you're doing extensions before removing the mold. Recurringly cure. Because the gel requires UV light to dry, the mold may block the rays, leaving the gel partially uncured. Light can enter if the mold is removed.

GEL POLISH AND TOP COAT IN STEP 5
You might require a cleaning wipe with rubbing alcohol to get rid of stickiness, depending on the brand of hard gel. The standard top coat and colored gel polish can then be used.
How Long Does a Hard Gel Manicure Take?
Usually, it takes an hour or two, especially if you're doing strong gel extensions.
What Errors Happen Most Frequently When Hard Gel Is Applied?
Preparation is essential in life, just like everything else. If you want to stop the firm gel from lifting, be sure to press back your cuticles and use primer.
How Can Hard Gel Be Removed From Natural Nails?
Hard gel is resistant to acetone. It is advisable to have a professional remove hard gels using a nail drill. You might be able to do it yourself with a hand file if there isn't any other choice. It won't be simple, though, and it will take a while. The majority of the gel must be scraped off before soaking in acetone to remove the remaining portions.
Because it doesn't pass through your natural nails and into your body, the hard gel won't injure them. Because of this, it's typical to fill in the gel where it has grown out and leave the nails with a barrier. You can just dissolve the top layer of gel polish to remove the manicure without doing the whole thing.
CONCLUSION
Fragile nails can be strengthened and made to look lovely with hard gel. It is simple to switch up your manicure without removing it because it is acetone-resistant. This flexible tool is ideal for extensions and overlays. We hope that our advice was useful in teaching you how to apply hard gel on natural nails. Conditions of the Ninth House
Ok I was just joking around that "It's a good thing the Ninth are the bone necros because they probably all have rickets being on Pluto" but then I wondered, would they?? how weak is their daylight?
Bunch of back of the envelope calculations and ruminations under the cut but the tl;dr is that brightest day Harrow would've experienced prior to Canaan House was darker than that of a typical grocery store interior
--
They aren't under a planetary atmosphere and I'm no physicist but I think light is light in a vacuum, some UV would reach that far just as some visible light does and due to them being partially a space station basically they are going to be under radiation we aren't.
Measurements for Solar radiation (W/m^2) on Earth are 1,413 at max and 1,321 at min. For Pluto due to its highly eccentric orbit it is much more extreme at 1.55 and 0.57. Compare this with Neptune which is 1.54 max and 1.47 min. Using the above and the value of 98,000 lux (a unit for brightness) for noon on Earth, I did some quick calculations that put noon on Pluto to vary between 114 lux to 42 lux (again due to its substantial orbital eccentricity). Putting that in comparable terms: average living room in Australia in 1998 was apparently 50 lux. Sunrise and sunset on Earth is ~400 lux. The dark limit of civil twilight (most can still read) is 3.4 lux. Night of fullmoon is 0.05-0.3 lux. Recommended office lighting is 320-500 lux.
With the above in mind, natural light reaching Drearburh at its brightest is comparable to a typical living room. And Pluto's rotation is 6.4 Earth days so the changes in natural lighting would be much more gradual than what Harrow would've experienced in Canaan house. It must have been quite the sensory overload + chaos for her!
Now for UV!
As far as UV goes, only Pluto readings I can find are in Rayleighs and I am too lazy to convert them [also yes I believe this is reflected off Pluto but it does not matter for our purposes as that is some of the light they'd be getting hit with] not many crafts have been to Pluto lol

So I'm just gonna go off a common value based on distance that Pluto receives roughly 1/1600 of the light we do. Thus, its UV will be 1/1600 of the UV on the ISS (Drearburh is under artificial atmosphere but it is unclear what filtering it does in terms of UV so I'm mostly ignoring that). Earth 's atmosphere filters out basically all UV-C (germicidal really intense one) and about 90% or more of UV-B (the sunburn one).
Unfiltered sunlight composition is about 10% UV so 10% of those earlier solar radiation measurements of 1.55 and 0.57 W/m^2 is UV. This gives us the convenient calculation to 0.155 and 0.057 W/m^2 in the UV spectrum.
For some reason it was impossible for me to find simple measurements of UV in W/m^2 lol (everything was already adjusted to different units). BUT I was able to pull up a few studies that had those as raw data for entirely different thing and most helpful was one in Kuwait where UVB was 0.25 W/m^2 or this map where it is in mW/m^2 (so 200 = 0.2).

In terms of UV, this would put the Ninth House within the range of Southern England during its perihelion and to Scandinavia during its aphelion so yes it is in fact Rickets City.
perihelion = closest to sun; aphelion= furthest
It is likely the house makes use of UV-producing lamps for its population especially given the major malnutrition issues and that the founding population included at the very least some people of Maori descent, potentially other ethnic groups with often brown skin, and people with darker skin can be more susceptible to low Vit D in low UV environments since their melanin is blocking what precious little UV they are getting. John made many oversights e.g. he's able-bodied so the houses lack automated doors, but given his background I'd imagine he'd catch onto this at least. I believe there are mentions of arc lamps in the text and these can let off some UV so there's some textual support to this idea. However, I do imagine they still rely heavily on necromancy to heal rickets just as they do other conditions. [Also normally, I'd say "realistically" after 10k years they'd likely have lost a lot of their melanin responsivity as that has happened quite quickly in humans (Cheddar Man vs modern white brits or Ashkenazi Jews vs Mizrahi ones) but the Ninth House is a much more stable environment than European history LOL, like people are provided their food and there's no war at home, etc so the "use it or lose it" selection pressure isn't as relevant as it would be for cave animals. But also "realistically" doesn't matter anyways for a bunch of reasons and the Houses clearly engage in some genetic meddling anyway (Ianthe and Coronabeth's Alexandria's Genesis asses have violet eyes).]
Lastly, the height of no-one-else-gives-a-shit-Avery, but the low light also has major implications for their crop production. "Low light" houseplants [University of Melbourne] have lux within "270 to 807". The Ninth likely has to be using either additional lights for their snowleeks and/or they are channeling a lot of light into a mirror/reflector and beaming it over the growing area. The latter makes the most sense to me.. though given how dark it is they probably should've just GMO'd some lower water column algae
#TLT#TLT meta#dubious calculations#i wish i didnt hate drawing backgrounds bc i would love to design the snowleek fields LOL#the diet on the ninth is so bad#god i hope they are on b12 supplements

Let's all remember that despite the temptation, this isn't actually funny. These people went to a concert, and were blinded en masse.
This is horrific.
The organizers of this concert need to be held accountable for maiming an entire audience, as well as possibly the performers.
I don't know literally anything about Hong Kong law, but if it is in any way possible, this needs to be pursued as what it is: negligence leading to a mass maiming.
After all, this is a known risk that concert organizers are supposed to be aware of. It has happened before.
However, as of this time, the "lab grade UV-C lamp" thing seems to be a rumour. The only lab which has investigated this incident (on the event organizer's payroll), says this was caused by a malfunctioning UV-A lamp.
It is unknown if the blindness will be permanent or temporary at this time.

hi!! do you have any facts about leafeons or their care? i'd really love to get one at some point!!
sure do! i've cared for a lot of veevees and their evolutions. leafeon is actually my favorite!
keep in mind that if you're looking for a battler, a different pokemon might be a better idea. it's possible to convince a leafeon to battle, and their sharp tail is no joke, but they're often battle-averse and would rather snooze at home. it takes a lot of energy to battle when your primary nutrition comes from sunlight!
in terms of their care, they need plenty of access to both sunlight and shade. choice is important for them, so they can prevent themselves from burning in too much sun! ideally they should have access to some sort of outdoor run so they can get fresh air and sunlight that isnt filtered through a window, but you can also buy a uv lamp for indoor sunning. really super important is temperature and humidity! leafeon are most comfortable at a temperature between 24 and 27°C with humidities of about 55-70%. thats way more than a human is usually comfortable with in their home! so, a controlled environment for your leafeon is a must. you'll know your enclosure parameters are off if you notice yellowing or browning of their leaves, wilting leaves, fungal growths, or sluggish behavior. if you can't dedicate a room of your house to maintaining this, it's better to only get a leafeon if you live in a suitable climate for it to live in your yard.
they don't require much in terms of food, and their diet in the wild consists largely of berries, plant matter, and the occasional small pokemon/egg. commercial food for them isn't always regularly available, so you might have to order it online unless you want to formulate their diet by hand with the help of your vet. they absolutely need access to a soaking pool, a dig box, and something they can use as a den. leafeon spend a lot of their day sunbathing, but they also enjoy exploring areas with plenty of plants and rooting around for food, so harness training and foraging toys are a great option for them!
they're a tough pokemon to care for, since they're so specialized to their environment. you really have to be prepared to care for both a plant and a pokemon at once!

UV Water Purification in Fountains – How It Works
As the demand for clean, safe drinking water continues to rise, modern drinking water fountains are evolving to include advanced purification technologies. One of the most effective innovations in this field is UV (ultraviolet) water purification. This method ensures the water dispensed is not only clear and fresh but also free from harmful microorganisms. But how exactly does UV purification work in water fountains? Let’s break it down.
What Is UV Water Purification?
UV water purification is a chemical-free method that uses ultraviolet light to disinfect water. Specifically, it uses UV-C light, a short-wave type of ultraviolet radiation with germicidal properties. When water passes through a UV purification chamber, the UV-C light destroys the DNA of bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens, rendering them inactive and unable to reproduce.
This process effectively eliminates up to 99.99% of microorganisms, making it one of the safest and most reliable purification techniques available.
How UV Purification Is Integrated into Fountains
In UV-equipped drinking fountains, the purification system is typically placed at the point of dispensing—either inside the spout or within a small chamber that water flows through before it reaches the user.
The process includes several steps:
Water enters the fountain from the main supply line.
It passes through pre-filtration to remove large particles and sediments.
The water then flows through a UV chamber, where it is exposed to UV-C light.
Finally, the purified water is dispensed, ready for safe consumption.
This system operates instantly and continuously, ensuring that every drop of water is purified at the moment of use.
Key Benefits of UV Water Purification in Fountains
1. Chemical-Free Disinfection
Unlike chlorine-based purification systems, UV treatment does not rely on chemicals. This means there’s no change to the taste or odor of the water, making it ideal for drinking.
2. Effective Against Microorganisms
UV light is extremely effective in killing or neutralizing pathogens such as E. coli, Salmonella, Cryptosporidium, and Giardia, which are common causes of waterborne illnesses.

3. Low Maintenance
UV systems require minimal maintenance, typically involving only occasional replacement of the UV lamp and periodic cleaning of the chamber. This makes them cost-effective in the long run.
4. Environmentally Friendly
Because UV purification doesn't use chemicals or produce harmful byproducts, it’s considered eco-friendly and supports green building practices.
Safety and Monitoring Features
Modern UV water fountains often come with built-in safety features such as:
UV lamp indicators to notify users or maintenance teams when the lamp needs replacement.
Fail-safe systems that shut off the water flow if the UV system isn’t functioning properly.
Real-time monitoring to ensure consistent water quality.
These features ensure that the water remains safe at all times, giving users peace of mind with every sip.
Where UV Fountains Are Most Beneficial
UV-purified drinking fountains are especially useful in environments where water quality can’t be compromised, such as:
Schools and universities
Hospitals and healthcare facilities
Airports and transit stations
Public parks
Commercial office buildings
They are also ideal for locations with older plumbing systems or areas where water quality is inconsistent.
Conclusion
UV water purification is a powerful and efficient method of ensuring that drinking water fountains deliver clean, safe, and fresh-tasting water. By eliminating harmful microorganisms without chemicals or waste, this technology represents a smart investment in public health and sustainability. As more facilities upgrade their hydration stations, UV purification is quickly becoming a standard feature in modern water fountain design.
