Completed: 1881
Acquired: September 18, 1918
Commissioned: September 18, 1918
Stricken: January 10, 1919
Fate: Returned to owner on January 10, 1919
She was a steam-powered commercial fishing trawler that was chartered by the US Navy for World War I and kept her civilian name. She served in the Charleston area for the war and briefly thereafter as a minesweeper and patrol vessel. She was in commercial service from 1881 to 1918 and from 1919.

Award: 3 battle stars during WWII
Decommissioned: February 17, 1947
Stricken: June 1, 1960
Fate: Scrapped in 1960
"Due to being commissioned late in the war, Alaska saw relatively limited service. She participated in operations off Iwo Jima and Okinawa in February–July 1945, including providing anti-aircraft defense for various carrier task forces and conducting limited shore bombardment operations. She shot down several Japanese aircraft off Okinawa, including a possible Ohka piloted missile. In July–August 1945 she participated in sweeps for Japanese shipping in the East China and Yellow Seas. After the war, she assisted in the occupation of Korea and transported a contingent of US Army troops back to the United States"
