i love the headcanon where drew tanaka was younger than piper, and only been mean to her because she felt threatened. she'd seen her older siblings sacrifice themselves in the war, seen how the survivors had been affected. she'd looked up to silena, so her betrayal cut deep and she closed herself off from other people. then piper comes along, and everyone latches onto her, and once again drew feels deeply betrayed.

It's the Great Moving Away, Sam Obisanya (ted lasso)
5. do you respond to comments? why or why not?
I DO. I KNOW THIS SOUNDS LIKE A LIE AND THAT IS BECAUSE IT IS. i have been woefully bad at catching up with responding to comments........... however i will fix this once school gets out.
6. what's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
hmmm. despite the fact that my fics tend to be Incredibly Angsty, they almost all end with deep and abiding sappiness. i suppose at the moment the sun is only a God if you learn to starve has the angstiest ending, although that's mostly just because it only has the one singular chapter atm.
7. what's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
probably It's the Great Father's Day, Ted Lasso! i love that ending very very much.
8. do you get hate on fics?
thankfully not yet!! pls be nice to me im This Tiny (i am not short at all) (be nice to me anyways)

all of my favorite characters/therapy. tbh.
15. what's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
i will finish every WIP i've posted a chapter of because i will. this is my Brave Face Mantra. in terms of ones i want to finish in my head.... the ted lasso s3 fix it will hopefully eventually happen but not for A While.
16. what are your writing strengths?
hrm. hrngh. i hate complimenting myself. people have told me i have a good grasp of character voices and also prose? so? [throws that at you and runs away]
17. what are your writing weaknesses?
i am THEE absolute worst at describing settings/environments. i'm not a visual reader at all which translates into not being a visual writer and it's just. urgh. HELP.
18. thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
hell yea! most of the characters i've written for so far have been mostly english-speaking, but for characters who are bilingual (dani, sam, richard) i try to include phrases in their native language they would use. if i were to ever write a lot of dialogue in another language, i'd probably give an in-narrative translation, or just stick 'em in the end notes.
19. first fandom you wrote for?
when i was 12 and infinity war came out i was so distraught that i wrote like 10 fix it fics and none of them will ever see the light of day.
20. favourite fic you've ever written?
and do not recognize us as we pass & find a new place to be from! yes i cheated and chose two.
tagging! not sure who has and who hasn't done it yet so! @altschmerzes @jamietarttsnorthernattitude @iguessyouregonnamissthepantyraid @thirteenemeraldcats @nativestarwrites @orbitalpirate + absolutely anybody else who would like to participate and use me as their tagger! MWAH <3

Gold rush
A/N: Sooooo, this prompt was sent to me by @/jin589 and can be read at the bottom. Thank you so much Jinette and I really hope you enjoy the story your prompt inspired! Until next time, xxxx
–––––––––––––––––––––––––––
Kate rolls her eyes as she sees women throwing themselves at the shadow she can’t seem to get rid off. She’s not even sure why she’s here, at a book-party, in the first place. Then again so is Esposito, Ryan, Montgomery and Lanie. Which reminds her Lane is the biggest reason why she’s actually here. If it had been her own decision she wouldn’t have been here.
“Urgh,” she groans as silently as she possibly can as she walks to the bar.
She orders a drink, thinking if she drinks it somewhat slowly she can leave right after and still have been there enough time in order for it to be ok to leave. She sits down and accepts the drink, gazing around the room. She finds Castle almost immediately, talking to another woman who seemingly is asking for him to sign her chest. Which of course he does. Along with that smirk of his. Urgh. She wishes she could wash… no, smack it off his stupid face. He’s so full of himself and thinks everyone wants him. His first words to her had been about her spanking him and if she hadn’t been trying to solve a case she would’ve loved to arrest him. Which she’d done later in that case but apparently that hadn’t helped at all. Because she’s sitting here, at a book party invited by him, and even though he has plenty of women throwing themselves all over him she can’t seem to get him to stop following her around. No matter how many times she’s shown she’s not interested in him or his glamour.
“Isn’t he handsome?” a woman says beside her and Kate almost chokes on her sip.
“What?” she asks when she realizes the woman is talking to her.
“Richard Castle, isn’t he absolutely amazing,” she more says than asks and Kate rolls her eyes.
“He’s not,” Kate says without thinking and feels the woman’s eyes bore into her skull.
“What? Of course he is! He’s handsome, kind, wealthy and…”
“Self-centered, egotistical,” Kate murmurs as she takes another sip.
“What? No!” the woman suddenly bursts into a lecture telling her all about how amazing he is and why he would be the perfect husband, to which Kate just states he’s already had two failed marriages. To which the woman had gone nuts, saying that had been because they hadn’t been “the one”. Kate just managed not to say “and you think you are” and stayed quiet while she continued sipping her drink.
Once her drink is finally finished she turns to the woman beside her and holds up her hand for her to stop talking.
“You’re right. He’s a real catch. A real… gold rush,” she states sarcastically before she stands up and walks away.
She quickly finds her friends and bids them a good night before she goes to get her coat. She’s been her long enough, at least in her opinion, and she’s more than ready to go home and take a long nice bath. As soon as she’s gotten her coat she turns to leave only to jerk back when he’s standing right there in front of her.
“Wait, you leaving?” Castle asks and she groans.
“Yes, I am and you can’t stop me,” she fixes her coat and starts buttoning it.
“But, I haven’t… I… could I get you a drink?” She gives him a tired look. “Please?”
His eyes search hers and she gives him her look. His blue eyes softens and she feels her muscles soften along with them until she catches herself and stiffens her body again.
“No, thank you. I’m done for the evening.” She picks up her phone to check for trains.
Just like always he invades her space and looks at her phone. “No, let me call you a car.”
“Absolutely not. Castle, I can take care of myself. I don’t need your money or rivalry,” she says, the last part not meant to come out but guess the drink did have a little more alcohol in it than she had expected.
His ocean blues widens in shock before he gets confused. “I know you don’t need it, you’re extraordinary. And generous enough to let me see it, so I just wanted to pay back some of it.”
Her heart clenches, his blues are so sincere and she finds herself drowning in them. Damnit. She shakes her head, and looks around to try and look at anything but him. She doesn’t like a gold rush. She doesn’t want him like everyone else. She’s not falling for her shadow.
“Are you sure you don’t want to stay? Please? I hate these parties,” he only just whispers the last part and she’s surprised because he actually looks like he’s telling the truth.
She sighs and shakes her head again. “I don’t want to stay here, Castle. It’s giving me a headache just being here.”
He looks around before quickly grabbing her hand and pulling her with him as he quickly makes for the exit.
“What are you doing?” she questions and he smiles at her.
“Taking you out of there so we can cure your headache,” he says and she rolls her eyes.
She thinks about pulling away and going home but something about his behavior makes her curious, and so she just follows. Before she knows it she’s accepting a warm cup of coffee as they continue walking down the street.
“So, you don’t like book parties?” Kate asks after a long time of silence.
“Yeah, no, I don’t,” he says and she gives him a questioning look. “It’s not like I can be myself around all those people. You saw how they were like, ‘sign this’,” he gestures with his hands, “‘sign that’-”
“‘Sign my chest’,” she teases and he makes a face.
“I don’t mind that one so much,” he says and she rolls her eyes. “I’m joking.”
She takes another sip of the hot coffee and moans at the taste.
“Good?” he asks and she hums. “Thanks for being my escape out of the party.”
She chuckles. “Not like I had a choice.”
“Oh,” he looks down and she bumps her shoulder with his.
“At least I got coffee,” she says and he looks at her and smiles. “Thanks.”
“No problem.”
They look at each other and she gets stuck in his blues again. She feels this pull against him and she’s not sure how to stop it, she hates everything that is his “famous persona”, but him as himself, like this, when they’re alone… this him… this him she likes. Before she knows it they’ve stopped in their tracks, just staring at each other. There’s a depth to his blue eyes that she hasn’t noticed before and she can’t help but lean in closer to look deeper. Drowning. She’s not realizing how close she is until their noses are touching and she feels this tension increasing between them and she starts breathing harder. She can feel his breath on her and it’s as strained as hers is.
“You won’t shoot me?” he breathes and she reads his blues like a book before she shakes her head so slightly it doesn’t disturb their noses still being in contact.
“No,” she exhales and then he doesn’t hesitate anymore.
His lips catch hers in a slow kiss, which she immediately reciprocates. And, god, there’s a lot more tingles and tension than she’s ever felt before. His hands land on her hips, pulling her closer as her hands slowly travel up to reach into his hair. One hand stays in his hair, tangling, and the other caresses his cheek. The slow kiss slowly grows hotter and stronger. They’re not pulling apart until they both need air.
“Wow,” she breathes out and he hums.
“Yeah.”
She pulls away a little bit, bites her lip as she looks up at him. “No one can know.”
He gives her a face showing him he’s thinking about it. “On one condition,” he eventually says and she narrows her eyebrows. “You agree to go on a date with me, a real date, and see where this could take us.”
She bites her inside cheek. His hand seeks hers and his fingers play with hers, sending electric shocks into her skin. Fuck.
“Okay,” she agrees before stepping onto her toes and kissing his lips again.
“Mm, good,” he says kissing her back.
This time, when they part, they start walking towards her apartment again. This time while holding hands, their fingers tangled.
THE END

A little distraction Part 6
This was prompted by the amazing AO3 user Hirien! Enjoy!
Fandom: Detroit become human | Ship: Reed900 | AU: Reverse AU
‘Gavin.’ ‘Hmm-Hmm?’ ‘You do know I have to get to work, right?’ Gavin opened his eyes slowly, unwilling to face reality just yet. He smiled at Richard lying next to him, head perched on his hand and hair messy from sleep. The human returned the smile and gently brushed along Gavin’s cheekbone, hovering long enough before the touch to give Gavin the chance to duck away. As if the android wanted that. Nines’ contact had soon become a treasured sensation he couldn’t get enough of. But the gesture itself was something Gavin admired deeply. The human never took what he needed but asked and offered. ‘I know’, the android grumbled with regret. ‘But does it have to be now?’ Richard laughed. ‘Yes, actually. I’m already late. Don’t get me wrong if I was in charge, I would stay in our little world of blankets forever. Come on. Let me go get ready. We can continue in the evening, alright?’ ‘Fine’, Gavin complained, but threw him a cheeky grin afterwards. ‘I’ll hold you to it.’
He watched the man get dressed admiring his toned muscles and dotted skin maybe a little too much. Well, he was well beyond embarrassment or self-consciousness. ‘Stay safe’, he said, as his eyes fell on the surprisingly only scar the man had. An old gunshot wound that had led to severe complications in the hospital. ‘Okay?’ Richard pulled his shirt over it and turned around while buttoning it up. ‘I’ll try my best Gavin. Will you be okay?’ ‘Yeah, you know me, will spend the entire day catching up on your old series. Nah, I’ll be fine.’ Nines nodded, eyes lingering a moment too long on the android. ‘Didn’t you say you were late for work?’ ‘Oh, fuck. Yes.’
Gavin laughed as the man practically jumped into his pants and ran out of the door, trying to put on his socks on the way. The low thud from outside told Gavin he wasn’t too successful. ‘What a chaos human’, the android mumbled, standing up to at least check on him. Nines just threw him a lopsided grin, got back up and left for the door. Gavin watched him speed off from the driveway with screeching tires and shook his head once again. How did the man ever make it Detective?
-
Truth was Gavin never switched on the television and rather sat on the couch looking at the different framed puzzles on the wall Richard had completed. The touch from minutes ago still lingered on his cheek, the ghost of the man’s affection. More and more often lately, Gavin thought about their talk weeks ago. We are in beta phase now. He had never seen the human happier as in that moment. What made him think once again about how much the man had gifted him with and how little he had received in return. Yes, it wasn’t a competition and Richard had reassured him time and time again that he had everything he needed and was happy. But still Gavin wanted to give him something. But what could he possibly do? Buy him another puzzle, was his first thought, but he disregarded that. He could do that later, he wanted something special. Something that showed the human what Gavin couldn’t tell him himself. Something both of them would enjoy and would but Gavin’s mind at ease. That already excluded everything that involved crowds of people. And to be honest, the android still didn’t know much about the man. He knew what he liked to do to pass time, he knew he enjoyed their mornings and evenings spent in bed and he knew his favourite food. He knew every small gesture and habit of his and how to interpret it. But what the man did for fun outside their home, he had no clue about.
Maybe if he could… Gavin eyed the phone sitting on the coffee table. Should he? He didn’t actually want to do it, but there was no other way, was there? So, he took the phone and called the right number. ‘Hello?’ ‘Connor?’ ‘Yes?’ ‘This is G-G-Gavin’, he started. ‘I neeeed your he-he-help with something.’ ‘Sure thing. Does it involve Richard?’ ‘Yes’, the android nodded. ‘In a way at least.’ ‘Is he okay?’ ‘Yes! Y-y-yes he’s aaaalright. I’m just… What does he d-d-do for fun?’ ‘For fun?’ Connor grew silent. ‘Oof, that’s a tough one. He likes watching series and movies. Likes puzzles way too much. He likes practically anything that’s warm and fluffy…’ ‘And wh-what about outsiiide the house?’
‘You looking for a place to go on a date?’, Connor asked after staying silent for a while. ‘Wh-wh-what? Nooo, of co-c-course not.’ ‘Really?’ ‘Okay, I th-th-th- He does so muuuch for me. Wanted to taaake him somewheeere h-h-he enjoys.’ He heard laughter from the other side. ‘Hey, no need to get flustered about. He really likes aquariums. But be warned, if you take him there, he will have a hard time concentrating on you.’ Gavin thought about it. That wasn’t actually such a big downer. He wanted to do this for Richard after all. ‘Th-th-thanks Connor. That heeelped.’ ‘Hey, ask me anytime. Have fun on your dat-‘ Gavin cut the line.
-
The android had checked when the human’s next free day would be and ordered two tickets online. Now to the hard part. Telling him. ‘Urgh, can’t wait to stay in bed all day tomorrow’, Nines sighed as he stretched his back that was aching from the long day at work. ‘Then I have to disappoint you’, Gavin said slowly. ‘What? Why?’ The android looked up at the frowning human and pulled the tickets out of his pocket. ‘Surprise?’
Richard took them and smiled. ‘Okay, that might be the single thing better than staying in bed all day.’ ‘Really? You l-l-like it?’ ‘Yeah, sure, I love it. Can’t wait to go with you.’ ‘Me neither.’
-
They were on their way to drive to the aquarium and Gavin felt giddy for some reason. Maybe it was only nervousness, but he really looked forward to it. The large complex appeared before them and Nines parked his car, offering Gavin his hand on the way over the android gladly accepted. They showed their tickets to the android behind the counter that welcomed them and showed them to the entrance.
At first, Gavin was a bit intimidated by the sudden darkness, but with the sound of bubbling water from the filters and pumps and the human next to him visibly relaxing, it subsided fairly quickly. A moment later Nines was already excitedly hurrying from tank to tank, pointing out the different species to Gavin who could have looked them up anyways and telling him all he knew about them. His excitement was infectious, and Gavin soon found himself in their own little bubble watching different types of fish and listening to Nines’ enthusiastically talking on and on. Soon Gavin didn’t even notice the other visitors and was completely at peace with the world around him.
They wandered through the aquarium and more than once Gavin was completely content with just standing there and watching Nines look after the fishes that swam past the glass in a hurry, trying to get a glimpse at all of them. His favourite moment of the whole afternoon though was when they came to a large tank that spanned from the ground up onto the ceiling and was curved inwards with a few benches positioned right in front of it. ‘Come on, this is my favourite spot!’, Richard called out to him with a toothy grin. He basically pulled Gavin with him by the hand he had been holding for how long Gavin couldn’t exactly remember and Gavin had to jog a few steps to keep up. Nines sat down and waited until Gavin joined him on the bench. ‘And?’, the human asked, momentarily pulling his eyes from the mesmerizing picture in front of them. ‘Do you like it?’
Gavin couldn’t really find words how much he liked it. The curve of the glass made it appear as if they were in their own little compartment in the middle of the enormous tank and everything else was blocked by faux stone pillars. It was like they were completely alone. ‘I… It’s like being in there’, he whispered. ‘It’s wonderful.’ Nines grinned and laid an arm across Gavin’s shoulders. ‘I often imagine how it must feel. Obviously, I don’t want to be a fish, but it must be amazing. Feeling weightless and feeling the water flow past. I like this spot the most. Makes you feel completely cut lose from the world.’ Gavin nodded. He had to agree, but he wouldn’t find words that described the feeling better than what the human had just said. ‘I really like it’, was everything he could sigh out as he followed one silver being to the next and back.
‘Thanks for inviting me out here’, Richard said after a while and rubbed the android’s shoulder gently. ‘It’s really nice sharing this with you.’ ‘It’s your money’, Gavin shrugged, but immediately regretted his words. He wanted to say so much more, tell him he would stay, that he wanted nothing more than to stay. Forever. But he knew the moment he would try to, his voicebox would fail or stutter or distort his words and he wanted it to be perfect, especially when nothing about him was. How could he tell him that, without using his words, without phcking it up? His LED turned red, he could see it in their reflection in the glass and so could Nines.
‘Gavin? Is everything alrig-‘ ‘Phck it!’, Gavin cursed, then turned to the human and quickly, far too hurriedly, pressed a kiss on his half open lips, before turning back again in jerky motions to look to the ground. Nines stared at him, red blush complimenting the android’s blue one and lifted his fingers to his lips. ‘I-I-I’m sooorry.’ ‘What?’ Richard focussed back on the android and reached for his hand. ‘Gavin, there’s nothing to be sorry for. It just… surprised me. I thought we were still in Beta phase?’ Gavin looked up shily, but his grip on Richard’s hand was strong. ‘I’d think we are past that. If you want to move on.’ ‘Sure. Sure, if you feel comfortable with that.’ The man practically beamed next to him. ‘Would you want to… to repeat the kiss? Properly?’ Gavin nodded and both moved in more careful this time. Their kiss was slow and thoughtful, and Gavin knew the moment they separated he would want another one. Nines himself couldn’t quite believe what the android had initiated, but he was immensely happy he had. For once in his favourite spot to watch fish and calm down, he decided to block out anything but the android in front of him.

“Han Solo? What the heck has Han Solo got to do with Halloween?” you laugh as Richard descends the stairs in his chosen costume.
“Well… It’s just… Dressing up, really,” he shrugs.
“At least I’m something halloweeny...”
“You’re too pretty to be a witch though.”
“Ha! Flattery will get you everywhere.”
“That’s the plan,” he winks.
He breezes past you with an air of confidence to get a glass of water before you set off, and you watch him carefully as he leans over to the sink, his snug trousers accentuating his pert bottom, then as he lifts the glass to his mouth with his arm flexing as he bends it. Even though it wasn’t technically on the Halloween theme, you couldn’t really complain at him dressing how he did when it makes him look that hot doing something very mundane, and you suddenly don’t want to leave the house.
“We going then?” he asks as he walks towards you.
“Do we have to?”
“What do you mean ‘do we have to’? You were all excited earlier!” he chuckles.
“Yeah, but that was before I realised you were going to wear that.”
“Oh, you like it now do you?”
“I never said I didn’t like it actually! I merely pointed out that it wasn’t exactly scary, and it is a Halloween party. I do like it, a lot.”
“How much?” he asks, cocking an eyebrow at you knowingly.
“We’re not doing this now, we’ve got a party to go to,” you say defiantly, just about holding your nerve under Richard’s intense gaze.
You take his hand and walk outside just as the taxi comes along, then you both climb into the back seats as Richard tells the driver the address, and as the cab starts to move Richard turns in the seat to look directly at you.
“So, what were you saying earlier about my costume?” he smirks.
“Nothing. Absolutely nothing,” you huff, turning towards the window to hide your smile.
When you arrive at the venue you hesitate as you get out of the taxi; these posh Chelsea houses always made you feel a little insignificant no matter how many times you’d been in them with Richard, and he knew you were feeling uneasy as you stood there looking up at the grand exterior. His hand rests on your lower back gently, then he swoops down and steals a longing kiss before taking your hand and guiding you inside without a word. You greet the hosts then head straight for the bar where you find a couple of Richard’s friends who you’d met before and knew were safe to be yourself around.
“Han Solo?!” Oscar laughs, “it’s Halloween, Richard.”
“That’s exactly what I told him!” you say.
“You could have at least gone for a bad guy...” he continues.
“Darth Vader would have been a good choice if you wanted to stay inconspicuous,” you grin.
“Alright, alright, but how is a sexy witch scary?” Richard retorts, looking at you.
“I’m not a- Oh! Right, that was smooth,” you giggle.
You all stand there chatting as the songs go from bad to worse, then when a Spice Girls hit begins, Tara is quick to grab your hand and pull you into the space that had become a makeshift dance floor. Richard laughs as you give him a worried look but you soon find your rhythm and start to get into the song without a second thought to the people around you.
Richard carries on talking to Oscar but his eyes wander over to you every few seconds, more so when you start to swing the hem of your dress around to reveal the top of the stockings you were wearing. You catch his eye a few times and he pops the collar on his waistcoat with a wink and your knees almost give way at the sight, but you manage to at least get through the second song before returning to his side like a magnet. While Tara then drags Oscar into the middle of the room you take your opportunity to stand in front of Richard and run your hand up and down his thigh slowly.
“Woah! What are you doing?” he gasps, looking around to see if anyone was watching you both.
“We need to get out of here,” you reply as his eyes roll back in his head at your touch.
“Yeah,” he breathes, “okay… yep.”
You run out of the room like naughty teenagers, then you jog down the street to find a cab and jump inside with breathless laughter. Your hands are all over Richard, at least as much as they can be knowing that the driver could see you clearly in his rear view mirror, and he’s giggling at your enthusiasm. He rests his head on the seat to take a look at you and reaches up to place a hand on your cheek before he starts grinning uncontrollably.
“What?” you laugh.
“You,” he sighs happily.
“What about me?”
“I love you.”
“Well I should bloody hope so, because I love you too.”
The cab comes to an abrupt halt and you’re quick to jump out as Richard pays the driver, and by the time he’s caught up with you, you’ve opened the front door and you turn to pull him inside by his shirt. When you’ve kicked the door shut behind you, you can’t help but run your hands up and down his clothed torso as you push him gently against the wall in the hallway, and he bites his bottom lip when you rip open his shirt.
“Look at you!” you almost groan, “fucking hell, you’re so handsome.”
“Stop it!” he laughs nervously as he shrugs off the waistcoat and shirt at the same time.
“You stop it! God, you’re just… Urgh!” you whine, running your fingers through the dense hair that adorned his chest.
He drove you completely wild at the best of times, let alone when he was dressed like this and acting as if it was no big deal. One hand stays on his chest as the other travels up to his neck as you lean in for a kiss, and he meets you before you reach his lips in a passionate exchange. The tables turn on you and you’re soon pushed against the opposite wall by him as his fingers dig into your waist, then he hikes your dress up and pulls it quickly over your head to break the kiss for the least amount of time, but as he leans forward to return his lips to yours, he pauses.
“Where did that come from?!” he asks as he eyes your new underwear set.
“Oh, this old thing?” you smirk.
“Jesus, if I knew that was under there we would never have left the house.”
“I’m going to enjoy watching you take it off me...” you whisper.
“So. Am. I.”
He drops to his knees to pull your stockings down one by one, slipping them off your feet as slowly as he possibly could, then he teases your knickers down your thighs at a pace that makes you whine with how achingly slow it was, and when they’re finally discarded he stands up to carefully take your bra away, making sure the straps were moved only by his teeth as his hands unclipped the back.
“Took your time, didn’t you?” you exhale as he steps back to take in the sight.
You move toward him, but he pushes you back against the wall in silence and quickly pushes his trousers and underwear down to his ankles where he shakes them off. Your mouth opens to speak but his lips soon land on it to hush you, and within a matter of seconds he has his hand hooked under one of your thighs as he lifts it up and he’s sliding inside you with ease after the build up. The soft padding of your backside bounces against the wall with each thrust and when his teeth lightly start to sink into the sensitive skin of your neck you can’t help but let out a loud moan.
“They’ll hear you next door,” he growls.
“Good,” you pant.
A sheen of sweat starts to sprinkle over both of your bodies and soon the hallway is filled with loud expressions of lust as both you and Richard let yourselves go when you begin to reach your climaxes. Richard is first to fall silent as he spills inside you, and you soon follow so that the only sounds left are heavy breathing as his forehead rests on your shoulder and you lean your head back on the wall.
“Next time we’re going to have to make it upstairs,” you say as you get your breath back.
“Why’s that?” Richard asks as he slowly lifts his head.
“Fucking light switch,” you laugh as you step to the side and turn around to show Richard a perfect square imprinted on your back.
“Shit, does it hurt?” he asks, reaching out to carefully glide his fingers over the mark.
“A little,” you chuckle, “but it’ll be a nice reminder every time you see me change.”
“Think I’ll have to take a photo and set it as my background on my phone,” he smirks as you turn back to him.
“I dare you,” you challenge, his hands finding your waist and pulling you against him.
Reader and rm are already in a relationship, Halloween rolls around, they go to a party together, Richard goes as HAN SOLO and reader is like because let's be honest, you know he'd do that look justice. . Tell me about your top five Memori moments? 💖
OOOOOOOOOH YES!! I had to wait to answer this because I had to think because narrowing it down is hard.
1. Winner by a landslide: the reunion in 3x16
Hands down my favorite Memori moment ever and will probably never been topped. First of all, the build up! Murphy breaks out of prison, and he has a chance to escape Polis and instead he goes up the tower into near-certain doom and when Bellamy presses him for a reason, he (deflects first, but you know…emotions are hard for him, yeah?) gives EMORI and SAVING HER as his reason. He’s like a literal knight going up the tower to save the princess from an evil spell. Like, who would have ever thought Murphy would end up in that scenario.
And then!! Then when ALIE is defeated and everything gets really quiet and people are dealing with the fall out, you just hear this broken, terrified voice whisper Murphy’s name and he JUST DROPS EVERYTHING AND RUNS TO EMORI WITHOUT A SECOND THOUGHT. Like he can’t contain himself anymore. He has been separated from her and gone through hell and thought he’d lost her and now she’s THERE and she’s herself and he can’t stop himself from sprinting to her and catching her in the most powerful hug and spinning her around.
Also remember back when the show cared about this relationship and emotion and the camera just lingers on them for so long while they’re wrapped in each other’s arms.
And then!! Emori keeps apologizing because she blames herself so much for what she did to him and Murphy – quick to anger, slow to forgiveness, “bygones”, never forgives people for betraying or hurting or leaving him (at that point) Murphy – just keeps FORGIVING HER. He just keeps softly reassuring her that it’s okay because he has her back. People always leave his life and don’t come back but this time MURPHY WENT BACK TO HER and he helped bring her back.
It kills me every time. The amount of emotions and love in that moment will never be topped again it is the PINACLE Memori moment okay. Also the shot of Murphy trying not to get his bloody hands all over her even while he wants to hug her is just precious.
2. Their first meeting
Everything about this first meeting is so good and I’ve already talked about it in length many times before, but what I love so much about this meeting is the exchange where Emori tells Murphy he would not look at her the same if she showed him (her hand) and Murphy says, softly, in like, the most soft voice we’ve ever heard him, “Maybe. Then again I might surprise you.” And they share THAT LOOK. You know, that one. That soft one that wrecks me.
I love it because Murphy and Emori connected right off the bat over a deep understanding of rejection and being labeled worthless or expendable by the rest of the world – of essentially being given an identity by the world around you and struggling out from under it. Of being rejects and outcasts and so, so, so lonely. Over having imperfections.
I think Emori admitting that she has something about her that she thinks would make Murphy hate her is what first breaks the ice between them first. THAT’S what makes him tell her to give him a chance and tell him anyway.
And then she turns him down. Because Emori doesn’t trust. And so Murphy tells her about HIM. He shares his mistakes and his demons and his ugliness with her first and it’s only after seeing that - after he’s vulnerable with her - that Emori shows him his hand.
And even then she’s absolutely startled when he not only doesn’t care, but he COMPLIMENTS it. Urgh. It’s just such a great first meeting.
And then held a knife to his throat and robbed him blind, but you know, they can’t all be meet cutes.
3. When Murphy saved Emori from Gideon and then she kissed him on his cheek and his brain short-circuited
First, I love that he saves her like five minutes after being like “yeah, I’m not a hero.” Like, yeah, alright, boy. Sure. You talk a big game about being a bad guy but then the minute Emori’s in danger he runs in there trying to take on a guy three times his size with a tree branch.
And then! When she kisses him?? He’s so baffled. When was the last time someone treated him with kindness and gentleness? When was the last time someone touched him with affection and not to harm him?? His brain can not compute. He is the formula meme in that moment. It’s precious.
4. The cave argument in 3x05
I love this moment for so many reasons. It’s such a great scene for both characters individually - it reveals a lot about how pessimistic Murphy is about relationships, how much he fears being abandoned by people he cares about, and it also shows how desperate Emori is to keep the good thing she found in the world.
It’s so angsty and painful and emotional and Emori’s absolutely DISTRAUGHT face when Murphy turns down her offer to go with her wrecks me.
But I also really, really love it because it sets up the running theme I love so much about Memori - of them never abandoning each other even though they’ve so often been abandoned. That other people might leave, but they’ll always have each other. Even after their break up, Emori still stayed with him when she thought doing so would kill both of them. They’ll always come back to each other.
5. Murphy’s speech to Clarke in 4x08
I MEAN WHAT CAN I SAY EXCEPT GIVE RICHARD HARMON AN EMMY RIGHT NOW FOR RIPPING MY HEART OUT OF MY CHEST. This is also one of my top favorite Murphy scenes period, but it was the first time that Murphy actually said the words “I love her” and I basically died. I wasn’t prepared for it and I’m still not prepared for it every time I rewatch. The pure desperation and fear and heartbreak in his voice. He actually BEGS because he’s so worried about losing her.
Now if we could just get an “I love you” face to face that would be fantastic.
This was very cathartic, thank you!! Urgh, I love them so much.

we’ll be fathers, sort of
Featuring boredom, Oscar Wilde, and the first part of a new little experiment.

“Two days,” Crowley groans, throwing himself onto the sofa. “Two days! What the heaven are you supposed to do in a bookshop for two days?”
“It’s not so bad,” Aziraphale protests, sitting down in an armchair with The Complete Works of William Shakespeare.
“Not so bad, eh? What’s that book, again? Isn’t it the third one today?”
Aziraphale opens his mouth, then closes it. “Possibly.”
“Ha! See? You’re feeling it too!”
“Fine!” Aziraphale cries, slamming the book shut and putting it a little more roughly than necessary onto the table. “But what are we supposed to do? It’s not as if we can leave.”
“Oh, no, can’t disobey the doctor’s orders,” Crowley says, his voice mocking.
“We can’t, that would be ridiculous.”
“I—urgh—I know, but what are we supposed to do?” Crowley moans, leaning his head back and throwing his arms over his eyes.
“I don’t know, but that’s not the issue. I’m not letting you tempt me out of taking care of Arthur.”
“Oh, so this is me being a demon, now, trying to tempt you into evils.”
“Yes!”
“You’re ridiculous.”
“No, you’re ridiculous. We’re staying here.”
Crowley sighs. “Fine!” He stands up with far more flair than necessary and walks over to the nearest bookshelf. Aziraphale watches him warily. “Oscar Wilde, who’s he?” Crowley asks, pulling The Picture of Dorian Gray off the shelf.
“Oh, an old friend. We went out for tea a couple of times. Before he was...driven out of the country.”
“Oh?” Crowley asks, eyes lighting up with interest. “And why, exactly, was he driven out of the country?”
Aziraphale pauses, then says “Homosexuality,” delicately.
“Satan,” Crowley breathes, “sometimes you think humanity is so wonderful, and then…” He lets himself trail off.
“Was that my side or yours?”
“Oh, pretty sure it was yours,” Crowley says, sitting down with the book. “‘Man shalt not sleep with man?’”
“That was a mistranslation,” Aziraphale says, indignant. “You know that.”
“Clearly the humans don’t.” Crowley opens the book and leafs through it, finally settling on a page about halfway through. Aziraphale opens his mouth to tell him not to read like that, absolute heathen, that he should start at the beginning, but he stops himself.
This is what the past couple of days have been—just sitting in the bookshelf, Aziraphale in his chair and Crowley propped wherever he deems best at that moment (best sometimes meaning the sofa, sometimes the kitchen counter, and, on one occasion, in snake form nestled between the leaves of one of his plants) and making conversation.
They sit for a while, flipping through their respective books, the sounds of the street outside dimming as time goes on. Once, Aziraphale stands to take off Arthur’s onesie (pinstriped and purple and yellow) and turn on the fan so that he doesn’t get too warm, poor thing.
“Okay, this is too much,” Crowley says as Aziraphale sits back down.
“Excuse me?”
“‘I do hope we become closer in the future,’ Dorian said, resting a hand on the older gentleman’s arm and blushing at his own boldness.’ How long did it take Wilde to get arrested, again?”
“I don’t remember the exact year. It wasn’t right after the publication of that book, at least,” Aziraphale says, a little miffed.
“You’re telling me people read the words blushing at his own boldness and didn’t suspect a thing?”
“Clearly.”
“S’a marvel he didn’t get caught earlier.”
“That’s horrible!”
“It’s realistic,” Crowley says, putting down the book.
Aziraphale frowns. “What are you doing now?”
“Do you have any food?”
“Food?”
“I’m peckish,” Crowley says.
“I suppose you could look in the kitchen,” Aziraphale says, opening his book again.
Crowley puts the book on the table with a bit more of a flourish than completely necessary and goes sauntering over to the little study and kitchenette in the back of the bookshop. Aziraphale is content with ending the conversation there, and he flips to Richard II, but he can’t seem to stay focused on the words. For some reason, he finds himself watching Crowley out of the corner of his eye. As soon as he realizes he’s doing it, though, he stops, dragging his gaze down to the page before him.
Even if Crowley is going to be here permanently, especially if Crowley is going to be here permanently, (and despite the fact that Aziraphale keeps catching him doing small kind things, like making Aziraphale cocoa in the morning and cleaning up without being asked, despite the fact that every time Crowley looks at Aziraphale it makes his heart flutter), nothing is coming of this, and nothing will come of it, and it would be best for Aziraphale to just ignore whatever it is he’s feeling and continue with his life. For Heaven’s sake, Armageddon will arrive in all of its blazing glory in eleven years, and Aziraphale has been preoccupied with—
He doesn’t want to name it, because that will make it true. And if it’s true, then he’ll have no idea what to do. So he ignores it.
(There’s a voice in his head, though, that says what if? Even if nothing will come of it—because nothing will come of it, really, why not indulge? Isn’t that what Aziraphale loves about humans, about this world? It’s that he can take part in the small joys. Nothing will come of it, and Heaven need never know.)
The voice is persistent. Aziraphale ignores it.
“You don’t have any food in your cupboard,” Crowley calls from the kitchenette, and Aziraphale stands to join him there. “How do you not have any food in your cupboard? I thought you liked food, I thought that was your thing. Imagine an Angel that likes food without any food in their cupboard.”
Aziraphale joins him in front of said cupboard and frowns. “Eggs, that’s food. And flour. And butter,” he says, looking around for a moment and then pointing to the little tray on the counter.
Crowley pokes the butter and licks his finger, grimacing. “Well, how do you eat it?”
“You put them together, I think. They’re ingredients. You’ve heard of ingredients, haven’t you?”
There’s a put-out look on Crowley’s face. “Ngk—Of course I’ve heard of ingredients. I’ve just never...assembled them. Have you?”
“I don’t believe I have.” They look at the cupboard for a few moments, and a delighted grin spreads across Aziraphale’s face. “I think I have an idea,” he says, a glint of mischief in his eye.
“An—” Crowley says, and then understanding hits him, judging by his expression, like a brick to the face. “No, angel.”
“It’ll be fun!” Aziraphale says, clapping his hands together and starting to pull things off the shelves
“No—”
“Crowley, six thousand years, and we still haven’t cooked!”
“Yes, and there’s a reason for that!” Crowley exclaims, exasperated.
“We’ll just have to decide what to make.”
“Have you ever cracked an egg in your life?”
“Crepes! Would that be too difficult? Or cookies!”
“This is...ridiculous.”
Aziraphale rounds on him. “You said you were bored.”
Crowley throws his hands up in the air in surrender. “Satan, I’m going to regret this,” he mutters. Then, louder, “Fine! Crepes, I suppose.”
“Oh, splendid,” Aziraphale says, beaming.
There’s a moment where they look at each other, expectantly, until Crowley says “Do you...have a recipe?”
“Oh!” Aziraphale says, like he hadn’t even thought of that. “A recipe. Yes. I’ll go get my desktop computer.” And he rushes off, pausing only a moment to glance back at Crowley.
He’s leaning against the counter, a quiet sort of smile on his face, watching Aziraphale go. When Aziraphale meets his eyes, the angel’s broad grin sliding into something softer, Crowley raises his eyebrows. “Recipe? Or have you forgotten already?”
“Recipe, yes,” Aziraphale says sheepishly, and off he goes.

“How’s Liverpool? Still amazing?” My mum questioned. It was the very first time someone had asked me about living in my favourite place and I hadn’t replied with immediate excitement and electricity, nothing but positivity and joy enlacing every word. Instead, I rolled my eyes, turning over on my bed and staring up to the ceiling, sighing and trying to choose my words carefully before replying to her. “I dunno, to be honest. I think I might be done with Liverpool.”
“What do you mean?” “I think… maybe it’s time for a change.” I sighed. “Maybe… my reasons for moving here were a bit silly.” “Bellona, Sweetie, you’ve only just got yourself a new job! And your reasons were not silly at all. Anything you’re passionate about isn’t silly.” “Yeah, but unfortunately I’m passionate about a band who haven’t been about since the bloody sixties.” “Well, technically they didn’t officially call it a day until seventy.” My mother quipped. “Urgh, let’s not argue about this again.” I chuckled. I had made such a beautiful life for myself in Liverpool. I was working again, in a good job, one I was starting to love. I had a great network of friends. I loved the place and everything about it; the culture, the people, the history. Everything. But for the past few weeks I’d been feeling utterly miserable. I felt like I needed a change. I needed to remove myself from that existence and explore something new. “I’m going to pass you onto your dad, because I know you’ll actually talk to him about what’s going on in that little noggin of yours.” “Alright.” I groaned. There was a slight shuffling and some mumbling before I heard my dads voice, accompanied by the sound of footsteps, like he was walking the following conversation into another room. There was something about my dad that helped me to open up. He was very tender, kind, always good with advice and aware of the right thing to say. “Hello, you!” He beamed. “Hiyaaaaa.” “What’s up then? What’s going on?” “M’thinking of leaving Liverpool.” “And why’s that?” I’d been pretty quiet about what was going on recently. I didn’t necessarily feel like I had anyone I could talk to about it all, so I just hadn’t! That was about to change. “Me and Harry have had a… fall out.” “That’s not like you two.” “No, it’s not.” I sighed. “But it’s now been eight whole days since I last spoke to him, and even that was just… this big argument. I guess… being here has always centred around him, and I’m only just realising it. Now we’re not friends… I dunno. Liverpool has lost a lot of its appeal.” I had no intention of speaking to Harry, despite how difficult even the concept of that was. The way the conversation the week before had panned out left me with no desire to reach out to him or try to save our friendship. I missed him every second of every day, but all I could think about was how he’d spoken as though my affections were something he worried about gaining, how after sharing an evening with me that felt so intimate and right, his main concern was that I’d focused too much on the emotional factors than the physical ones. And he was right, I had, and if that was something he wanted to reject, it was the right thing to walk away from him. Entirely. “What did you fall out about? Surely it’s something you can fix?” My dad spoke hopefully. “M’not sure it is, y’know? He kinda… thought I was feeling more for him. More… than a friendship, if that makes sense.” “It does.” “And he seemed so… It was like he thought that would be a really bad thing. And it’s not even true! I don’t feel that way about him, but the way he reacted to thinking I did… It’s just a mess. Made me… see him differently. I still think he’s the best person, but he’s so… fucked in the head sometimes. He cares so much about not hurting people it’s like he can just be… totally void of emotions, sometimes. It’s stupid. He struggles with attachment.” “Well, I know full well he’s very attached to you.” “I used to think so too.” “He is, Bellona. You two are very close. It’s clear you mean a lot to him, and I’ve never even met him.” All my parents had ever really experienced of Harry was my stories, the way I spoke about him, how he intertwined with almost every tale I had to tell when I went back to see them. There had also been the odd time when I’d been on the phone to my parents, and Harry had grabbed it out of my hand and spoke to either of them like they were old friends. I couldn’t imagine what my dad would be saying if he had actually seen the two of us together, experienced our bond first-hand. I knew it was irreplaceable. “I remember when you first made friends with him.” He continued. “You liked him because he wore a ring on every finger.” “Just like Ringo did.” I mumbled, glum, empty. “And that’s why he changed from Richard to Ringo. Which is ridiculous, given how great a name Richard is.” “You would say that.” I huffed, finally laughing a little. “It’s your bloody name.” “Exactly!” He laughed. “But I remember you saying you’d found your very own Ringo. I knew immediately that he was someone special.” I felt my bottom lip beginning to tremble, thinking back to those early days, the first time I’d seen him outside of work. He had a ring on every single finger on his right hand, which I complimented immediately, and he blushed and thanked me. That was when he’d first learnt about my love for Ringo, and every day since, until the last few weeks, I felt like we’d learnt something new about one another. I missed learning about him. I missed his voice. I missed the way things used to be. “He is special.” I choked, withholding tears. “And you’re sure it’s just a friendship?” He asked. I tilted my head back a little more, staring at the wall above the headrest of my bed, looking at the Yellow Submarine that Harry had made from cardboard and painted with love two years earlier for my birthday when he was skint. I closed my eyes, pressing my brows to the centre and gritting my teeth so hard I thought they may shatter. “I’m not sure about anything anymore.” I replied.
Tumblr media
I’d stayed up on the phone to my dad for far too long. We spoke about anything and everything, and the only thing that brought the conversation to a halt was when I’d been rambling on for a little too long and then heard him snoring down the line. The following day at work, I was struggling to keep my eyes open, on my third coffee before I’d even gone for lunch. Everything was much more difficult than it needed to be. Max began his approach, rather hesitantly, looking both suspicious and amused. “You rough?” He questioned, sitting himself down on the edge of my desk. “I wish.” I chuckled, leaning back in my chair. “I was on the phone to my dad until pretty late.” “I’m not buying that.” He sniggered. “You don’t have to, but it’s true.” I could tell he didn’t believe me, shaking his head and rolling his eyes, but I was very happy in the knowledge I was telling the truth, and my evening had been wholly innocent. Everyone at work was lovely; they all made an effort with me, and whenever I was struggling or confused they were always there to help and never made me feel like I was being an idiot, which I appreciated more than I could voice. It was taking some time for me to fully grasp my new role. Max, however, was especially lovely. It surprised me, a little. I thought after the way we’d started and the Maxwell Edison debacle would have made him avoid me like the plague, but he’d done quite the opposite. He was definitely the one I’d been most chatty with. “Gunna nip out and get some Thai food for lunch. My treat. You want anything?” “You’re a dream.” I groaned. “If they’ve got Massaman, I’d love that.” “Consider it done. How you doing today? Other than being hungover.” “I’m not hungover.” I laughed. “M’alright. Still feel like I’m finding my feet. Is that bad?” “Not at all. It’s a new role, so we’re all trying to figure it out, really. You’ll get there, and until then, I’ll be here helping.” “Thanks.” I smiled coyly. He shot me a relatively quizzical look, one I couldn’t place or read, though I tried. I tilted my head, letting him know I was quietly attempting to figure him out, encouraging him to say what was on his mind. “What’re you doing this weekend?” “Um… No plans yet. Why?” “I wanna take you out.” I tried not to look too alarmed by his statement, concerned my shock may portray as a look of disgust, because that certainly wasn’t how I felt, but nor did I feel good about what’d he’d just proposed. Max was great! He was a few years older than me, good looking, kind, intelligent. He’d been nothing but nice to me since I started, so I felt as though I should have been jumping at the chance and jumping for joy that he’d even asked me in the first place. Yet I didn’t feel that way at all. The very first thing I thought was how I’d have to go on the date alone, which I was not used to after so many god-awful years of double dating alongside Harry. As painful as that had been, more times than not, it was a routine I’d gotten used to. I wasn’t sure I knew how to date one on one. But that wasn’t the only reason I was thinking of Harry. It was like I could feel his lips on my neck as Max looked down to me waiting for me to form a reply. I could feel Harry’s hands on me, hear him whispering, telling me I was beautiful. I wished I could have thought of his latter words. I wished I was recalling the way he’d been with me in that bar the week before, but instead my mind immediately leapt towards what it had felt like to be with him at our most beautiful, rather than our ugliest. “Like… a date?” I stuttered. “Yes.” He was obscenely confident, patiently awaiting my answer. I cursed my mind, feeling blessed that I’d moved on from thinking of Harry but cringing over the fact that I was once again fixating on Maxwell’s Silver Hammer, and the fact that Maxwell Edison asking a woman out on a date wound up with her being dead. I tried to shake my thoughts, of both Harry and The Beatles, but that was a near impossible ask, given it was me. If there was a collection of things I thought about far too often, they would be at the very top of the list. “Are you allowed to date colleagues?” I tried to quip, being playful. “I believe so. Wouldn’t it be fun if we got in trouble though?” He raised his brows, rather suggestively. “I say we find out.” It was a relatively quiet office. We had the radio on, but it wasn’t overwhelming, and thanks to how spaced out it was in there, we’d gained the attention of a few of the people around us, looking over their shoulders and smiling our way. I needed the interaction to end. “I’ll think about it.” I simply said. “You’ll think about it?” He raised his brows, seemingly surprised. “Yeah.” I shrugged. “I’ll weigh up my options. I could be very busy this weekend, I dunno. I’m in high demand.” “I bet.” He smirked. “Alright. Let me know.” “I will.” He seemed intrigued as he hopped off my desk and walked away from me, glancing back over his shoulder once before turning around, shaking his head, and going back to his own workspace to collect his wallet before heading out to grab us some food. I watched him leave, chewing nervously at my lip, and the very second he was out the door I leapt up and scuttled over to Babs, who was waiting eagerly for me to arrive. “Did you hear that?” I gasped. “I did, I did!” She seemed just as excited. Thanks to the industry, we were a heavily female dominated office, and that subsequently meant that I’d only been at Babs side for a second before a few of the other girls who had overheard the conversation were coming to join us and gossip between ourselves. “I had no idea what to say!” I placed my hand on my chest, trying to calm down. “You should have said yes!” Pam piped up. “I dunno.” “No,” Babs tapped my arm excitedly. “I think you did good to keep him on his toes. Probably has enough girls falling at his feet.” “Does he do this with like… every new starter?” I questioned. The whole time he’d been speaking to me, I felt nervous and strange and too consumed by other thoughts to even entirely take in his proposition. But speaking to the other women in my office, suddenly I felt all excited and giggly. It felt nice. “Just the one girl, when the company first started.” Babs told me, her knowledge helpful since she’s been there from the very beginning. “But they were in a long-term relationship. He was smitten with her.” “So why did that end?” “Why does anything end?” She shrugged. “Sometimes these things just fall apart, even when you really love someone.” I nodded, immediately shooting my eyes down to the floor, her words clogging up within my throat, enough to make my mood drop once more. “I’d just be wary,” Pam spoke again. “Maxwell Edison and all that.” I shot my head up hearing that, eyes wide, holding my hands out to her. “Me and you,” I gawped. “We’re totally on the same wavelength. Can I date you?” She laughed appreciatively, crinkling her nose as she did. Just over a week after starting there, I was steadily beginning to feel as though I was building relationships with my colleagues that had the potential to function beyond the workplace. It felt good to be around people I could truly see myself being friends with. Once again, I began wondering if the best plan was for me to stay in Liverpool, or if maybe I should have just quit and moved on before I got too attached to a life there without Harry playing a role in it. It didn’t feel like something I wanted to be attached to. He was everywhere. I shared memories and moments with him in every crevasse of that city, so much so I felt as though I couldn’t turn a corner without seeing him built within the brickwork and feel him flowing within the wind. I was reminded of him constantly, and it was becoming exhausting. I didn’t want to head home, either. The tiny town where I had grown up meant next to nothing to me, even my parents wanted to leave, they’d just become too settled there. I’d made a conscious decision to leave, to burn the town where I was born so that it was nothing but glittering ash in the back of my mind, and maybe the time had come to place Liverpool within those ashes, set it alight and let it disperse. “He seems nice.” I mumbled after thinking for a while, letting the rest of the girls mumble around me. “That’s because he is.” Babs encouraged, waiting for a more solid answer from me. Nodding again, I wandered slowly back over to my desk, dragging my feet as I went. I couldn’t deny that I was intrigued to know what it would be like to spend time with a boy and get to know him without the looming doubt of him subsequently beginning to hate the relationship I had with Harry, because that was a relationship that no longer existed. What I’d said to Harry the night that he’d kissed me was true; no relationship would ever work with us being as close as we were. It was too intense, no one had ever been able to understand it. Maybe I could finally make something work. I still had eyes on me as I sat down, people eagerly awaiting more news from me, but I just smiled and shrugged. “Like I said,” I exhaled. “I’ll think about it.”
Tumblr media
That night, I sat with my knees crossed on my living room floor, rain pouring so heavily outside that despite the fact my living room was windowless, I could still hear the downpour crashing down onto the building from above, and against the window in my bedroom down the hall. I sat flicking through my vinyl collection, trying to decide what it was I wanted to listen to. After drinking so many coffees that day, I was once again awake much later than I should have been, and I wanted to listen to something soothing that would trick my body into a state of exhaustion. During my initially mindless search, I stumbled across a Stone Roses vinyl, one that Harry had given me a few months earlier, but I’d never gotten around to listening to. I froze, hovering over it, wondering if I should finally pay it some attention or if I’d only wind up depressing myself in the process. I pulled it from the box, my chest heaving as I removed the sleeve from its home, hating how many ways Harry had etched himself into my life. Before I could even get to the vinyl, I spotted a note he’d attached to the inner sleeve. Listen and fall in love. X Instantly, I put it back in its place, shaking my head and trembling, choosing to ignore my instinct to listen, and his message asking me to fall in love. Feeling so emotionally and mentally attached to someone I was trying not to acknowledge was infuriating, to say the very least. I knew that even if I did move from Liverpool, he was etched upon my belongings too, making him almost impossible to escape. I just wanted it to be easier than it was. I didn’t want to feel the way I was feeling. I continued my search, tapping my fingers across the tops of the cases to separate them, feeling as though I was just on the verge of settling on a sound, when an unexpected one grabbed my attention. I bolted my head to look behind me, hearing the unmistakable sound of the lock in my door rattling, and I felt as though my heart stopped beating completely, simply listening to the unsettling noises, fretting over what my course of action should be. Though my building wasn’t the best, I had never really felt any need to worry there, I had never felt unsafe, and even upon hearing those sounds, after a temporary moment of panic, I decided not to overthink and to instead, deal with the situation head on. I raised to my feet, slowly making my way out of my living room and trailing down the hallway. I kept my eye on the door as I moved, seeing it shake, the lock twisting and shuddering, my heart mimicking its pattern. I took a deep breath in once I’d reached the door, turning the lock on the inside and only being able to pull at the handle for a second before Harry had pushed himself indoors, pinned me against the wall and kissed me, fervent and feverish. Without thinking, I was kissing him back, tasting the mint upon his tongue, reaching up and running my hand through his soaking wet hair. His clothes were damp, sharing the sodden material with my body as he pushed himself up to me, trapping me in place and grabbing at my waist, moaning miraculously into my mouth. His desperation was palpable, and I imagined mine was too. I clawed at him, embracing his body, immersed by the sensation of his tongue fooling with mine. I couldn’t think of anything other than him, his lips, his hands, and my heart. “I missed you.” He groaned. I didn’t return the words, despite the fact I felt the same way. I had missed him more than I could ever describe, but I couldn’t fathom that in those moment. I just wanted to kiss him. I just wanted to be with him. It was clear he was feeling a mixture of emotions, evident in the tenor of his grunts, the way he grabbed onto me, his breathlessness and the way he’d just leapt for me, like my lips were a fantasy he’d been dying to materialise. I couldn’t place all of his emotions, but I could feel them, like they were radiating from his body and sinking into mine. The cocktail of his complicated emotions tasted so sweet, a flavour I wanted to rest on the tip of my tongue for an eternity. The mixture of his moods was being produced as a passion I had never known the likes of. I should have been telling him to stop. This was exactly what we’d been liked when we’d slept together; we didn’t talk, we just grabbed at that passion without ever discussing what was happening or why it was happening, why we were experiencing those impulses so intensely. Nothing had been okay between us for weeks, and that should have been at the forefront of our minds. An honest discussion should have been the only thing upon our lips. But when he kissed me like that, it felt physically impossible to push him away; even the concept of saying anything that could shatter the moment felt negligent. “M’gunna make you come.” He gasped before biting beautifully at my bottom lip. “Harry-” He didn’t let me speak, smothering my mouth with his, possibly afraid that I was about to see sense and halt our actions. I reached upwards, holding his pink cheeks within my hands, wondering why he was as drenched as he was, questioning whether he’d been outside debating with himself whether or not to let himself into my building and into my flat and cultivate his cravings. What was strange was how when I’d last kissed him, there had been a part of me that felt unsure, that felt confused and startled by what was happening between us. None of those feelings existed when I kissed him then. I felt bizarrely serene, like I was coming home. It shouldn’t have been that way after all the bullshit we’d been through in the past month, but there was something about Harry and the way I felt when I was with him, something about the two of us together. I pulled away from him, parting our lips and crashing my head against the wall behind me, my stomach twisting as one of his large hands reached up and fastened to the side of my neck. “Don’t stop.” He begged, trying to close the gap again. “Please, Lona-” “I’m not, I don’t want to stop.” I swallowed. “I wanna go to bed. C’mon.” I hitched away from him, edging my way out of the trap he’d created in an attempt to make my way to my bedroom, but something stopped me quite quickly. I was only a few steps in the right direction when I heard him stumbling, turning myself to see him taking a few steps backwards as he lost his balance, unsteady on his feet. My mood changed in a second. I’d glued myself to the spot, glaring at him as he tried to follow me, soon noticing that I was no longer moving. “Are you drunk?” I asked quietly, tilting my head upwards when his body got too close to mine. “What?” “Are you drunk?” I asked again. “No. Nah, m’good.” He tried to move again, but I wasn’t budging, my nostrils flaring as his body hit mine, his head down to the floor. “Look at me.” I demanded. “Lona-” “Look me in the fucking eye, Harry!” I yelled. Clenching his jaw, he apprehensively raised his vision to latch with mine, now unable to hide his bloodshot eyes. He was fucked. Without thinking what I was doing, I pushed him from me, using all my might to send him stumbling back down the hallway towards my front door, not quite able to comprehend the rage I was feeling. I felt so fucking stupid, for letting him in at all, for kissing him and accepting his embraces when he did not deserve even an ounce of my attention. What he’d said to me the week before should have summed it all up for me, it should have been enough of an answer and enough to keep me from yet again handing myself over to him and allowing myself to be vulnerable when he didn’t want my vulnerability or my devotion. He only wanted my body and I should have fucking known. “Get the fuck out!” “No.” He argued weakly, head back down to the floor. “GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY FLAT, HARRY!” “NO!” “You’re such a fucking coward.” I trembled, still with veracity, but with tears streaming down my cheeks. “I don’t want to see you again, I want you out!” “LONA-” “You don’t just get to want me when you’re drunk and ignore me when you’re sober!” I roared. “I am worth more than that! I should mean more to you than that! Fuck you! Get out!” “You don’t understand-” He paced towards me again. “YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND!” I shrieked at him, forcing him to cower. “You can’t just pick and choose when you want my affections and which ones you’re okay with!” He was still a little unsteady on his feet, my words tightening around him and bringing trembles from the very core of his body, and it was really like he couldn’t look at me. I thought he’d pushed in there and kissed me so suddenly because I was all he wanted, but looking at him then I realised it was largely down to the fact that he was trying to hide his state from me, trying to cover his lack of poise and his bright red eyes. He didn’t want me to know that once again, it was alcohol that had brought his lips to mine. The mint I’d tasted was there to try and disguise whatever it was he'd spent his evening drinking, and he had only decided he wanted to see me when he was drunk enough to stomach my company once again. “I don’t wanna leave.” He whispered down to the ground. “That’s not your choice to make.” I huffed, trying to get past him and open the door. He moved for me again, clutching my cheek and turning my head so he could put his lips on mine, but I pushed him from me within a second, and with much more strength than I had done before. He stumbled, crashing against the pink wall behind him, then unable to take his eyes off me, staring at me desperately like I had just crushed his entire existence. But I felt like he had crushed mine. “I’m done with you, Harry.” I told him, unsympathetically. “I want you to leave. And I don’t want to see you again.” “You’re lying.” He quivered. “I’m not!” I screeched. “You’ve fucked this up. You’ve fucked everything up!” “We fucked everything up!” He argued, finding some equilibrium just to stand up to me. “We had sex, Lona! It’s not just my fault!” “I’m not talking about that, Harry! How do you not understand?” I cried. “I was ready to fix things with you after that night. I wanted to save us! But every move you’ve made since has made me feel worthless. That’s why you’ve ruined everything.” “I don’t know how to deal with this!” He placed his hand on his chest, and I noted the tears in his eyes. “I have no idea how to… understand what I’m feeling! I don’t know… the right thing to do! I’ve not dealt with this before, you can’t expect me to be perfect!” “I don’t expect anything from you anymore, Harry.” I scowled. “The only thing I want from you now, is for you to leave. And I don’t want you to come back.” “Lona, please-” “Give me your key.” I commanded. “What?” “Give me your key and get the fuck out!” He shook his head, his bottom lip trembling as the first few tears spilled, lolling his head back against the wall, his throat hitching. I held my hand out, waiting for him to pass over the key that I’d purposefully gotten cut for him, because I no longer wanted him to have that easy access not just to my home, but to my life, to me. I was done. “I’m not walking away from you.” He spoke with sorrow. “M’not doing this.” “You’ve already done this. We can’t save this now, Harry. It’s gone too far.” He released a light sob, shaking as he went to reach into his back pocket to retrieve my key, trying rather urgently to compose himself as he did. I watched him hesitating, and all too soon he’d brought his empty hand back to the front of his body, and simply shook his head again. “You’re such a fucking child.” I stormed the short distance towards the door, swinging it open and then approaching him once more. “I’ll change the locks.” “Don’t do this, Lona, please-” I grabbed at his t-shirt and dragged him from his spot, practically throwing him towards the door. “I’m sorry, please listen to me!” “I’ve heard enough.” I was finally able to get him outside, pushing him into the hall, the alcohol he’d drank making him tumble forward for a moment before he straightened himself and tried to get back inside, rushing towards me. “STOP! Lona, listen, I’m in-” I slammed the door in his face, crashing the wood against the frame and locking him out, slinging the chain across so that even with his key he didn’t stand a chance of getting back to me. I finally felt as though I could release the ambush of tears that had been somewhat constrained throughout our argument, but not fully. I wished I hadn’t cried at all, but at least I had managed to hold in those tears, because they were so intense, so overwhelming, I knew I wouldn’t have been able to be as strong as I had been. I wouldn’t have even been able to speak if I had been weeping the way I was then. He banged his fist ruthlessly against my door, crying my name. “LEAVE OR I’LL CALL THE POLICE!” I screamed. He produced one more bang, much more aggressive than the last, and then he stopped. I experienced a moment of silence before I heard his footsteps, finally traipsing off down the corridor, cursing loudly as he went, but at least he was leaving. I bolted to my bedroom, leaping up onto my bed and ripping the Yellow Submarine he’d made me off the wall, screaming as I threw it down onto the floor before collapsing completely, crumbling downwards. I curled up, grasping at the duvet with my fingers and crying heavier than I ever had before in my whole life. I had never felt worse than I did in that moment. I had never known that agony could pierce a heart so severely. Laying there, my blurred vision fluttering over the cardboard cut-out, I realised more than ever before that Harry was all around me at all times. He was up on my walls, woven within my bedsheet, carved into my lifestyle in every way he could be. I didn’t want to be there. I didn’t want to exist in that space. I wanted to be a million miles away, somewhere I had never been before, surrounded by new people and new cultures and a life so separate from the one I had been leading that Harry would not appear in every inch that surrounded me. I’d made up my mind, or rather, he had made it up for me. I was going to leave Liverpool.

Is it possible to cancel my car insurance?
I am a new driver and I have to pay around $135 a month. I am a guy by the way so this may be why it is so high. I have a job, but it's part time and doesn't pay well. I don't plan on driving the car often, just to school and work only 2-3 days a week and taking the bus the other days. I also do not plan on driving in the winter months. Is it possible to cancel my insurance while keeping my license from Dec. to March? My policy is under my parents and we have an extra car that just sits in the garage and it's the one I drive. Also, the insurance people said I could wait until January to lower my insurance rate to $110. I like the idea, but I don't want to wait hehe. Can I cancel my insurance then return to it a couple months later?""

I no with Quinn it was trying to break into the car insurance market and well obviously got in, is there any other companies that are taking there route? I know it was really cheap and nice. Is it illegal in California to drive an insured car even though you're not insured?
I heard that in the state of California, as long as the car itself is insured, it doesnt matter if the driver himself/herself is insured or not, and that the driver needs to be insured only if he/she is driving a car that isn't insured. Let's say a teen driver wants to drove his/her parents' car, but the teen isn't listed, but not excluded, from the insurance plan. As long as the car is covered, its okay for the teen to drive it. The only exception is if the parents put on the insurance plan that the teen is excluded from the plan ('____ is excluded from the plan'). Is any of this true? Thanks in advance.""

Can a car insurance company make up points on your license?
So in early march my apartment was raided for pot, and a 1/2 gram was found. I was convicted of possession of marijuana and as part of Michigan's driving laws even if the incident did not occur in a car your license is restricted for 6 months. Yesterday my mother (the insurance for the whole family is in her name) received a notice that i had 8 points on my license and my insurance rates would be raised. Confused about this i went to Sec of State and in fact found out that i have no points. I called Memic and explained this to them, they informed me that they do not use actual points, they use their system of points. For example OUID is a 6 point offense but they count it as 8 points. Passing a stopped school bus (which as far as i can tell is no points) they view as 8 points. My question is, can they do this? We are switching insurances next month due to cheaper rates but this seems like a shady business practice to me. Thanks for ur time!!! -Pat""

Is the maintenance/insurance costs on a 1998 Porsche Boxster expensive? Is it more expensive than a Corolla?
Would my maintenance costs go way up if I trade in my 2000 Toyota Corolla for a 1998 Porsche Boxster? Would my insurance costs go way up if I trade in my 2000 Toyota Corolla for a 1998 Porsche Boxster? I only have an additional $1000 per year to pay for any additional costs, would this be enough to cover the extra insurance and maintenance costs of an old used Porsche Boxster, one that seems to need quite a lot of mechanical work done at a Porsche dealer, compared to my old and flawless Toyota Corolla? Are Porsche dealers really expensive or is that just a myth? I drive a 2000 Toyota Corolla and over the years I change my own oils, my own fluids, and have only taken it in twice for tire alignments, that's it. The costs are extremely low. Now I see a 1998 Porsche Boxster for sale, with a slightly leaky engine and a Balking automatic transmission for sale. I would like to have fun and buy it, but I cannot afford any more than about $1000 per year in maintenance costs. Also, my insurance on the Corolla is dirt cheap, and I don't want to pay that much more when I get the Boxster, i don't want any surprises. What do you think? For a person with very limited resources, Should I keep my trusty old Corolla, or get the Boxster?""

Since I have fever, could I ask a story in which reader leaves alone and she's sick, she's dramatic about that and Richard, goes to her to take care of his girlfriend?
The weekend had come around quickly, and you were looking forward to spending some time with Richard finally, or so you thought, but your body had other ideas. You wake up Saturday morning with a pounding head, high temperature and horrible nausea, then when you go to take a deep breath in, you find your nose blocked as well.
“Urgh,” you groan to yourself, flopping onto your back. Your stomach clenches, then your eyes fly open, “shit!”
You scramble out of bed to run down the hall, only just making it in time to the bathroom where you vomit into the sink. You sit on the closed toilet seat, then press the back of your hand to your forehead and feel sweat covering your skin already. It felt as though the heating was on full blast, so you reach up to the window and push it open with a loud sigh. When you stomach finally relaxes, and you feel well enough to leave the bathroom, you take yourself back to bed and immediately unplug your phone to find a missed call from Richard already.
“Sorry, did I wake you?” he asks when you phone him back.
“No, I was in the bathroom being sick,” you huff.
“Oh, baby. Are you okay?”
“No,” you sigh, “I wanted to spend the weekend with you, and now I’m ill.”
“How are you feeling?”
“Awful! I’ve got a pounding head, feel sick, have a temperature, and my nose is stuffed up. I feel absolutely rotten, and I was fine last night.”
“Sounds like flu, I’ll come over. Think you’ll need some looking after,” he says softly.
“No, you’ll catch it. I’m fine.”
“I had the foresight to get a flu jab, so even if I do it won’t be anywhere near as bad as you’ve got it.”
“You sure?” you ask, hoping he wouldn’t suddenly turn around and refuse.
“Of course. You just get yourself all tucked up in bed and I’ll use my spare key.”
“Thank you,” you whisper, gripping on to your stomach as a familiar feeling grows, “shit, gotta go, see you soon.”
Richard soon arrives at your place, hearing him bundle through the door with a plastic bag, and he lets out a sigh when he sees you with your forehead resting on the sink.
“Wow, okay, I underestimated this situation,” he gasps.
“Mhmm,” you hum, unable to lift your head just yet.
“Why don’t you go back to bed?”
“I can’t really trust that I’m not going to puke right now.”
“I’ll get a bucket, sit up in bed where you’ll be more comfortable, you look all awkward,” he says sadly, reaching his hand out to you. You turn your head sideways to look at him, then take his hand and he leads you to the bedroom. It wasn’t exactly how you thought he’d be doing it this weekend, and you groan at the thought of what you were missing out on, some hot and heavy sex was one thing you’d been looking forward to.
“What’s up?” he asks upon hearing your groan.
“This was not what I had in mind when I thought about you leading me to my bedroom,” you pout.
“Ditto,” he laughs, “but at least I get to see you, eh?”
“Hmm, looking like a pile of shit.”
“No! You look gorgeous,” he protests. You roll your eyes as you get into bed and Richard drops his coat and scarf over a chair before climbing in next to you and opening up his bag.
“Right, I’ve got tissues, flu tablets, lemsip, water, and a loaf of bread in case you fancy some toast later.”
“You’re perfect,” you sigh sleepily.
“Shh, go to sleep,” Richard soothes, stroking your hair back from your face as he watches your eyes close involuntarily. You drift off into an uneasy sleep, Richard checking in on you every so often between making himself some lunch and having a general tidy up around your flat. A few hours later you wake, and slowly make your way to the bathroom, then emerge after a short bout of retching to see Richard standing outside the door with a concerned expression.
“Oh, my love,” he sighs, wrapping an arm around you and leading you back to bed, “keep trying to sip some water.”
You nod at him as he tucks you in, then passes you the bottle of water, and watches carefully as you take a couple of tentative sips.
“This is hell,” you mumble as you hand the bottle back to him, and he pouts sadly.
“I’m here. Promise I won’t leave until you’re better.”
“You’d better not,” you smile, then slowly close your eyes once again, your body well and truly exhausted from fighting the infection. Richard gets in next to you, slips his hand in yours, then shuts his eyes; the only place he wanted to be this weekend, flu or not.

- Catch Up -
It was grim Friday afternoon when I rushed into the restaurant where I used to work, shaking my umbrella dry by the front door and beaming up to Craig as soon as I saw him. “EY, IT’S BELLONA BROWN!” He cheered. “Long time no bloody see!” “It’s because you call me Bellona, so I avoid you.” I tittered, smiling wide as I moved towards him.
I certainly didn’t miss the job, but I missed the people. Never before had I been surrounded by so many wonderful people on a daily basis. No matter how long or tedious a shift was, it was hard to leave that building without feeling like I’d enjoyed myself, despite dick-head customers and piss-poor management. I leant over the counter and planted a big smooch on Craig’s cheek, before he quickly went back to preparing behind the bar for what was bound to be a hectic Friday evening. “You come to bother Harry on his lunch?” He questioned, moving around and wiping down surfaces. “He asked me to!” I cried. “Miss you like mad round here. How long have you been gone now?” “Almost a year!” “Fuck off.” His eyes widened. “That’s gone so quick!” “Glad I’m still missed.” “All day every day.” It was early afternoon, so they were just preparing for the busy evening, setting tables and making sure everything looked acceptable for when the nine to five lot finished their days and headed over for some cheap but decent food, people celebrating the start of the weekend. “Right, I’ll go get Harry for ya.” “Cheers.” “Watch the bar for me.” He called over his shoulder, setting off to the kitchen. “There’s literally no one bloody here!” I laughed. He shrugged, pushing through the swinging door and going to find Harry for me. I eyed up the place, wondering how the year had gone so quickly but at the same time, it felt like a lifetime since I’d worked there with them all. Harry appeared a few moments later, clutching rather desperately at a single lettuce leaf, looking absolutely exhausted. I knew he’d been out the night before, and he always thought he could hack it, but Harry was absolutely useless on a hangover. “You look… bad.” I gawked. He shoved the pathetic excuse for food into his mouth before dragging his feet over to one of the semi-circle booths, and I followed, sitting myself down on the fake, red leather seat that curved around the table and smiling across to him as he dramatically threw himself down, clearly feeling very sorry for himself. “I usually love prep shifts.” He groaned, laying himself down, facing towards the ceiling. “Don’t have to deal with any bloody customers. Just get everything ready and go bloody home as soon as it starts getting busy.” “You need to learn that you’re bad on a hangover.” I instructed, aware he would never learn. “You can only go out the night before work when you’re at work in the evening.” “Mm.” He grumbled. “And also, you need to eat more than a single fucking lettuce leaf.” “Mm.” He didn’t sound too convinced. I was expecting him to be a tad more entertaining when I’d arranged to go around and share my lunch break with him, and I was definitely expecting some free grub at the very least. He could barely keep his bloody eyes open. I decided to grab his attention. “I reckon they’re gunna fire me.” That did the trick. He shot his eyes open, the lights that were embedded into the low roof above us clearing aching his irises, his brows lowering and squinting in the light. “What?” “Mm. They got rid of two people today, and said they won’t be the only ones. I don’t reckon the work I do is important enough for them to keep me when they’re literally… burning money at the minute. So… Yeah.” “Shit.” He sat upright, rubbing over his eyes a few times. “That’s fucked.” “Yeah.” “You been looking for something else?” “No, because I feel like that’s jinxing it.” I could see he was about to argue with me. “And I know that’s stupid, and I should be looking, otherwise I’ll be fucked if and when it does happen, but… I’m clutching at straws.” Harry liked to be safe within his life. It was one of the reasons he’d been working in the same place for so long. He knew his routine, he knew his outgoings and he liked the feeling of being secure and safe. I knew the very idea of me not applying for new jobs even though I could practically feel my current one slipping through my fingers would set his mind off into an absolute frenzy. “Right… well… you know they’d take you back here in a heartbeat, so at least you’ve got that.” He groaned. “I don’t wanna come back here.” I huffed. “Why?” “There’s a reason I left in the first place.” “Don’t be a dick.” He seemed disgruntled, almost rolling his eyes. “It’s a decent job.” “I know it’s a decent bloody job, Harry!” I wailed. “I’m not being one of those dickheads who… shuns customer service jobs! You know I’m not one of those people. I hate those people! I just mean… it’s not for me.” He nodded, untensing his shoulders. I’d been the one who turned Harry into this person who became very protective and defensive about his job in the first place. The number of idiots I’d stumbled across who felt like poorly paid jobs in that sort of area meant someone wasn’t smart or wasn’t hard working was extortionate, and I’d seen Harry sit idly by in conversations he was clearly hating. I’d told him he needed to stand up for himself a bit more, make a point and not take shit from people. “Thought you’d turned into a proper nine to fiver then.” He smirked, using the term we’d used a million times. “Not all nine to fivers are like that. This is something I’ve learnt… being one of them.” He smiled across to me, easing even more when I stuck my tongue out at him, then practically falling back against the chair, returning to his painfully hungover state. “Well, still… You’ll be welcome back here, if it comes to that. I hope it doesn’t, but still.” He shrugged. “Thanks.” He closed his eyes, and he honestly looked like he was going to fall asleep, which he probably needed. I kicked him under the table but earnt barely any reaction from him. I kicked harder. “You’re weak as fuck, Lona.” He smiled, eyes still shut. “Bet you’re shit at footy.” “You better make it tonight!” It was officially the evening of our double date, just under a week after I’d first met Lewis. According to Sara, Lewis had bounded over to her desk first thing on Monday morning and asked about me and where I’d disappeared to. She’d done her job wonderfully and suggested a double date to him without making it seem like I’d already planned it all out. She made it all seem like it was her idea, and I planned on giving her a very big, appreciative kiss on the cheek as soon as I saw her. I didn’t know what the hell to expect, but it had been a long time since I’d been on a date, and Lewis seemed nice. I was looking forward to it. But it definitely needed to be double date, so I needed Harry to stay awake. “Urgh. Do I have to?” He mewled. “Yes! You’re the one who made me… bloody dependant on the double date thing.” “I’m rough.” He drawled. “Harry, I need you.” I stuck my bottom lip out. “Pretty please?” He opened one eye at me, grinning like an idiot when he saw my pouty little face, shaking his head before cracking his neck. I kicked him again. “OI!” “The amount of times I’ve accompanied you on painful dates, Harry.” “I’ll be there! You know I’ll be there.” “Thank you!” I cooed. I kicked him one final time, much more affectionately that time around, and he seemed to appreciate it, sweetly returning the gesture.

“I’m going on a date with a nice Liverpudlian boy, and he sounds like Paul McCartney, and I’m very excited.” I beamed down the phone to my mother. “Do you know him at all? Or are you only excited because he sounds like Paul?” “Um… We spoke briefly.” I tried to button up my coat with one hand, fiddling with the buttons and trying to get them through their designated slots. “It is… largely based around his accent, thus far. But he seems nice!” I’d usually have a weekly catch up with my parents over the phone. I only really went back down south over Christmas, so this was the best we had. It was nice though. I liked the little routine we had, where I’d call them on a Friday night before my mum started watching her soaps and when my dad had come back from working away all week. “I don’t know how I feel about you going on dates with random men you don’t know based entirely on their accents.” “S’alright. Harry’s gunna be there, so I’m safe.” “Oh good. That’s good news. How is he?” My parents still hadn’t met Harry, despite the fact we’d been so close for four years. Harry would always go home to his mum at Christmas time, and I would go back to my parents. We’d made a few plans whilst drunk, that we’d go down to London to see them, but they’d never amounted to anything. It was easier with his mum, because she lived so close, but he had yet to be blessed with meeting Sharon and Richard Brown. “He’s good, yeah!” I answered. “As cheerful as ever. He’s good.” “Well send him our love!” “I shall do! I’m outside now, so wish me luck!” “Good luck! Don’t rush into anything!” “I never bloody do. Goodnight, mum. GOODNIGHT DAD!” I yelled, despite the fact there was no way he’d be able to hear me. “Rich, your daughter says goodnight!” I just about heard him yell his goodbyes in the background. “Have a lovely time.” “Thank you! Bye-bye!” “Bye!” I shoved my phone into my pocket and walked into the restaurant that Sara had booked us into, hoping they would all be there already because I was purposefully running late in the hope of avoiding being the first one there. I spotted Harry and Sara rather quickly, seeing her bright blonde hair and his short locks which were trying desperately to curl, their hands intertwined on top of the table and a huge smile on his face. It didn’t take me too long to realise they didn’t have company. Harry took his eyes to the door, spotting me and then waving me over, still smiling brightly, but I couldn’t return it. I’d been good at taming my nerves all day, and after so many experiences of dating alongside Harry Styles, I was used to the setup. It was almost mundane. But seeing that he wasn’t there, I felt otherwise. “Has he stood me up?” I blurted before I could even officially greet them, shuffling my coat off and hanging it on the back of the chair. “If he’s not coming, I’m giving up on men completely.” “He’s coming.” Sara chuckled. “Just text me saying he’s stuck in traffic.” “Bloody hell.” I exhaled, plonking myself down, flimsy as hell. “I thought I’d hit a new dating low, which would be a miracle, considering my track record.” I shot Harry a look, just to remind him that my poor track record was almost entirely his fault, and he just shrugged rather innocently. “Hopefully tonight will be better.” Sara encouraged. “Fingers crossed.” I took my eyes to Harry. “You’re looking better than you did this afternoon.” “You saw each other this afternoon?” “She came round to see me on her lunch,” Harry answered. “And I was not in a good way.” The two of them started discussing the night they’d both been on the night before, where Harry had finally introduced her to some of his uni lads, the ones that were still in Liverpool, and from what Harry had told me earlier, they’d all liked her, which I knew would mean a lot to him. I glanced back over my shoulder, watching the doorway, biting nervously at my lip. It felt like a damn lifetime before he turned up.

I was in extremely high spirits, which was basically foreign ground given the circumstances. I was used to everything going incredibly wrong rather quickly. This time around, it took some time for things to turn sour. We were looking at the dessert menu by the time Lewis ruined bloody everything. He ended up arriving not much later than I had, looking amazing and being charming and I finally felt like I was in for something good. Harry had been shooting me looks all evenings, kicking me under the table and raising his brows at me, and basically making the whole thing very obvious. He wasn’t too good at being inconspicuous. I was debating between the selection of sorbets and the chocolate cake when things changed. “Am I the only one getting dessert?” I sulked, seeing that everyone else had left their menus on the table. “I hate it when I’m the only one getting dessert. I mean like, it’s definitely not going to stop me, I just… don’t like it.” I looked around the table, my eyes finally landing on Harry who was sat directly across from me, batting my eyelashes at him. He merely picked up his menu, and started searching over his options. “So what’s with you two?” Lewis asked after silently watching the interaction. “Huh?” I bolted my head to him. “Your weird… little friendship.” He gestured between myself and Harry. “How did that come about?” “What’s weird about it?” Harry got defensive almost immediately. “I dunno. I guess I just don’t understand how you can be such good mates with a girl.” “What the fuck is that supposed to mean?” I scowled. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the first time myself and Harry had met an idiot who was completely baffled by the concept of a guy and a girl being friends and nothing more. I think it helped the two of us, working in that restaurant for so long and being in that environment. We were constantly meeting people our age, who were gorgeous both inside and out, and the initial instinct would always be to make friends. There were far too many men in the world who limited themselves to male friendships and only saw women as a walking vagina and not much else. I’d just been really hoping that Lewis wasn’t one of them. “Nothing.” Lewis backed down pretty quickly. “I can see I’ve hit a nerve, so I’ll shut up.” “You not got any female mates?” Harry asked that question with a completely dead tone. He had been compelling all evening, as he usually was, but that had changed. Sara picked up the menu, probably just as a way of avoiding the current conversation. “Well… y’know,” Lewis shrugged, taking a sip of his drink to clear his blatantly dry throat. “There are girls I work with and stuff. But… no, I guess I don’t have any girl mates I’m close with.” “That’s the only weird thing here, mate.” Harry grumbled, not dropping his eye contact for even a second, but I appreciated the fact that Lewis managed to hold it. Harry could be quite intimidating when he wanted to be, and he was definitely showing that then. “Y’know what, you’re probably right. It’s just… not something I’ve seen much of before. I didn’t mean anything bad by it.” I was rather quickly willing to forgive and forget the whole thing, to be honest. I could tell he hadn’t meant anything by it, and he definitely wasn’t ready to argue his point, so I was hoping he’d just made an off comment and I could just ignore it. But things were only going to get worse. “I’ve seen it happen to lads I know, especially at uni and stuff.” Harry elaborated. “You’ve gotta have girl mates that you’re close with, it changes shit. Changes how you view things. I know lads who just see girls as like… a sexual thing, and it’s fucked up.” “I’m not like that.” Lewis shook his head, but I could see Harry wasn’t convinced. “But… yeah, I know what you mean. I guess I’ve never really thought about it.” Harry’s mum had brought him up all her own, and clearly done a brilliant job. I guess he’d always had a positive relationship with the females in his life, and I think for Harry it was pretty much always on a friend’s basis before it was anything else. I felt like that might have been one of the reasons he was so terrible with girls romantically. I’d seen it shock Harry time and time again, the way some guys were with girls, and how they saw them. I’d also seen Harry change boys; sit them down and really talk with them about it, and helped those lads flourish, and I felt positive for a few brief moments that he was doing the same with Lewis. Usually it helped when the lads were drunk, but he seemed to be really accepting what Harry was saying, truly considering it all. “Maybe you’re reading into it a bit much.” Sara finally spoke up, directing her words to Harry. “I think… it's rarer than you think, the friendship you two have. It’s easy to… misconstrue things.” “He didn’t misconstrue it though.” Harry answered. “He’s seeing it exactly how it is, he’s just questioning it.” Even though he’d never told me directly, I knew that Sara had questioned our friendship when her and Harry first started talking. Ash had been the same with me. It was a topic that usually died pretty quickly, but over our four years of friendship, we’d had plenty of people question us. “I actually do volunteer work with a local party, and I get to meet new people all the time.” Lewis smiled. “So… I think it’s good I have the opportunity, y’know? The older you get, the less chances there are to form friendships and stuff, so… I know what you mean. Maybe it is weird, I dunno.” “You do work for a local party?” I questioned brightly, smiling alongside the query because at first I thought that was brilliant. “I do yeah! Just volunteer stuff, nothing too serious.” “Which party?” “Conservative.” I swear, I thought Harry was going to smack his head against the table on my behalf. That was all I needed to know. I wish I’d just got up and left rather than fallen into a political argument, but I couldn’t help myself. “Are you serious?” I cringed. “It’s a powerful party.” “Yeah, because they have the money to manipulate the media and they belittle working class people.” “That’s just not true. We-” “You’re burning the NHS to the ground and spending the taxpayer’s money on all the wrong things. Our emergency services are fucked because of you lot.” “You shouldn’t believe everything you read.” He huffed. “It isn’t stuff I’ve read, this is what people who work for the services that hold our country together are saying. This is what everyone with half a brain is aware of! You’re all… steal from the poor and give to the rich, and it’s just fucking wrong.” He started droning on and on about Tory policies and how they were the better party and how they got too much stick for no reason, and I found my eyes going to Harry, who was slyly trying to cut his hand across his throat, clearly agreeing with me that Lewis was a definite no-go, what with the inability to be friends with girls without being lectured about it, and on top of that being a fucking Tory. It meant, really, that I’d reached the end of yet another unsuccessful date, and this time I couldn’t even blame Harry for it. We let him go on and on about it, rolling our eyes and both knowing we were completely set in our ways, so his ramblings were falling on deaf ears, but we let him have his moment. He must have dragged on for a good five minutes of solid speaking, to which Harry just replied ‘okay’ and didn’t rise to him any further, which I think riled Lewis up even more. We all eventually decided against getting dessert.

Lewis and Sara both had work in the morning, so he’d offered her a lift back to her flat, and she’d taken it, leaving myself and Harry to walk home together. We were all very aware that nothing was going to come of the date. After the whole politics argument, barely any words had been shared between any of us. Someone with political opinions so far from my own was never going to work, and I imagined it was exactly the same for him, there was no point even pretending we were going to see each other again. Once we’d reached my building, I invited Harry up for a brew and a bitch. My place wasn’t much special. The building itself was an absolute eye sore; I’d once been letting myself into a building and heard a drunken bloke behind me question if it was brothel, so it definitely wasn’t easy on the eye, but that meant cheaper rent. However, my flat had everything I needed, really, three doors leading down a thin corridor on the right-hand side, the first being my tiny living room and kitchen that they’d just about squeezed in, my second a stick thin bathroom, and the third and final door leading to my bedroom. I’d done everything I could with it, making the place colourful and littered with posters and cushions and throws and basically an abundance of things that didn’t match in the slightest, but it made it feel homely. Harry immediately threw himself down onto the sofa as I went towards the kettle, checking it was sufficiently full before flicking it on. “Imagine being our age, in two-thousand and bloody eighteen, and being a Tory.” I huffed, still baffled by it. “It literally doesn’t make sense.” Harry groaned. “Also, what the fuck was that with him not having girl mates? Like… I think I got it more, when I was at uni, but a grown man not having any female friends is fucking weird.” “Agreed.” I prepared the brews for us as Harry got back to his feet momentarily to approach my LP system, flicking through my box of vinyl’s before settling on Dire Straits, and by the time he was sat back down, I was sitting myself next to him, passing over his tea. “Sara hates confrontation.” He huffed after thanking me for the drink. “I can tell she felt so awkward during that. I found it hard to… keep quiet though.” I lay my head back too, then turning it to the side and gazed at his profile, the way his eyes were closed, his jaw sharp, resting his mug on the arm of the chair and tapping his fingers against it to the beat of So Far Away. “Is Sara okay with how close we are?” “To be honest,” He swallowed. “I think… at first, she didn’t really get it, but I’ve spoke to her about it loads. And obviously, now she’s spent more time with you, and you two get on, so she’s chilled out about it. I don’t think she’d wanna spend time with you if she had a problem, and she’s always keen on seeing ya.” “That’s good.” I smiled. “Better than bloody Jess, eh?” “Shit. That was a nightmare.” He sniggered. A couple of years back, he’d met a girl who practically leapt on him. It was when he’d first cut his hair, and he’d been so worried about it and so uncomfortable with his new look, but then we went on a night out and he received as much, if not more, female attention than he’d ever had before. One of those girls was Jess, and she was so adamant on getting to know him and so infatuated him, even how awkward he was didn’t stop her from pinning him down. It only lasted around a month though, because she hated the two of us. She basically ended up giving him an ultimatum, me or her, and he’d thankfully chosen me. She just didn’t trust how much time we spent together. I could tell Sara wasn’t on that level, not even close, but I knew at the beginning of their relationship it would have been something she fretted over. Six months down the line, I was glad to hear those worries had passed. “I like it in a way, y’know?” He smiled, his eyes fluttering open. “That we have a friendship that… it’s so tight, that people don’t even… understand it. I’m not even sure it’s about gender, really. You’re my rock. Wouldn’t… trade what we have for anything. Sometimes… it makes sense to me that people don’t fully get it. I dunno if I know anyone else who has a friendship quite like ours.” “I guess not.” “We’re special, aren’t we, kid?” He turned to face me before saying that, the left-hand side of his lips lifting, winking sweetly. “If you say so.” I chuckled, rolling my eyes and turning away from him. We fell into a comfortable silence, and I could feel my eyes closing, genuinely exhausted by the evening. I didn’t want to let on how disappointed I was by the way the date had played out, but I knew that was useless, because Harry was bound to bring it up, and even if he didn’t, he could read me so well and look right through me. He knew it had bothered me. “Sorry tonight didn’t go well.” “Should be used to it by now,” I grumbled. “But it’s still shit.” “Mm.” “I just didn’t think it would be this fucking difficult. There’s fucking billions of people on this planet and I can’t find even one of them to love me.” I hadn’t ever been in love. I’d thought I loved Ash when we were together, but it was one of those relationships where I looked back on it and knew that wasn’t the case. Before that, I’d been in a two-year relationship that spanned from college and into my university days, but even that didn’t feel like real love in hindsight, and I’m sure he felt the same way. On top of that, I knew for a damn fact that Ash had never loved me. He’d never even managed to fake it to save my feelings. “Oi!” Harry scowled. “I bloody love you!” “You know what I mean.” “You have a lot of people who love you!” He argued. “You’re surrounded by people who think… you’re the best thing in the world. People feel lucky to have you around, and that’s fucking important. You might not have found… that kind of love, but you’ve got plenty of people who love you.” “Stop trying to think of things sensibly and just let me complain!” I tittered, lolling my head back and groaning. “You know I love a good whine, Harry.” He took a sip of his drink before placing his mug down on the floor, twisting his body so he could look directly at me, leaning my way. “M'being serious, Lona. I think you’re the fucking best, because you are the fucking best. When you meet the right person, you’ll know it. And I can tell you now, the right person for you is not a fucking Tory!” He gawped, and I giggled. “You cannot twist this into being disappointment. You don’t wanna get on with a lad like him anyway. Fuck it!” “That’s true.” “You should feel glad things didn’t go well. Better that, than be someone who… doesn’t know what they want, or settles for some dickhead. Be picky as fuck, it’s the best way!” I reached out and pinched his cheek, shooting him a sweet smile in an attempt to portray how grateful I was that he’d managed to change how I was feeling about the evening. “You always know the right thing to say, don’t you?” I muttered. “I’m very smooth.” He lifted his brows. “No you’re fucking not.” I chortled. He stuck his tongue out at me and then reached back from his tea before resting once again, and there was just something about him being there; almost as though he was in his own home. It didn’t feel like he had to leave. There wasn’t a single inch of his exterior or that suggested he was a guest. “How’re things with Sara?” I asked after a short while of no words being shared between us. “You were feeling pretty… weird, last week.” He finished his tea, cracking his neck before her answered me. “M'feeling alright, y’know.” He explained. “I know I’m just being stupid. I think I just… need to get over my own insecurities.” “I hope she smothers you with compliments.” “She does.” He smiled, wide and real and perfectly endearing. “It’s just me, and I know it is, and that’s what I find frustrating.” I’d spoken with Harry about it all before, and he’d explained why he felt he was the way he was. His father had left before he was even born, and he’d had to experience a few men falling in and out of his and his mother’s life since he was small. He’d seen his mother be heartbroken too many times. He placed women on a pedestal and had so many examples of how not to treat women, he cowered from them in the hope of not completely fucking up, in the hope of not being one of those men he’d seen too many of. Harry was intelligent enough to be aware that no matter how hard he tried, he would be a negative part of some people’s lives. Relationships fall apart, and things often get messy, and Harry was conscious of the fact that he would become a bitter or infuriating or painful memory for some people, and he hated that. He never wanted to hurt anyone, so he backed away from situations where he felt he had the power to do so. He'd barely ever given himself the chance to gain confidence in romantic situations, because it was always something he took steps back from. It was only around a year earlier when Harry declared this to me, drunk and vulnerable and sat with his back against the statue of The Beatles at the Pier Head, his spine resting against John Lennon’s legs, his head balanced against the bronze jacket slung over John’s arm. He’d had his eyes closed for most of the conversation, hiccupping sporadically, but he knew exactly what he was saying, making it clear that he had thought about this aspect of himself often, but maybe never voiced it. He'd gotten much better than he had been when he was younger, and I believed a lot of that was down to the dating, and simply allowing himself to open up to the idea of being with someone. Even so, there were still some things he was getting used to and wrapping his head around. “M'proud of you, y’know?” I smiled. “I know it’s still a bit weird for you, but you’re so much better with this stuff than you were when we first met.” “I’m just a growing boy.” He fluttered his lashes, his dimples digging into his cheeks, his attempts at innocence false but endearing. “Growing into a… wanker.” He merely scowled and shook his head as I placed my empty mug down on the floor and lay myself down across my miniature sofa, resting my feet upon his lap. I closed my eyes, trying my best not to drop off, but with Dire Straits still playing in the background and Harry gently smoothing his hand up and down my shin, it wasn’t an easy task. My eyes opened for a split second, seeing his slouched posture, his head back and his eyes closed. “I should probably go home.” He just about said. He never made it. The two of us fell asleep in that position, and even when I stirred in the middle of the night, Harry gently snoring with his hand still resting on my leg, I didn’t move, I just fell back to sleep, a minor smile sitting upon my lips.
