Have you considered looking into work-from-home jobs? I’m not sure what field you’d be looking into, but that might reduce some of the anxiety of the process. A zoom interview might be required, but you could probably see if you could do camera-off.
Based on research I’ve done in the past, script-writing and editing jobs can often be done remotely! You do have to be wary of fake offers, but those are often the ones that seem too good to be true. You’re intelligent, so you can probably spot those easily.
Regardless, take a deep breath and remind yourself: if they don’t want to hire you, it wasn’t meant to be in the first place. Work on solidifying your resume and building your portfolio. You already have lots of pre-written material you could use as references!
I hope this isn’t too much coming from a stranger, but we’re all rooting for you!
Yeahhh... tbh I don't really have much of a resume. I had one soul sucking retail job about ten years ago that my uncle helped me get on account of me being the equivalent of the world's most pathetic-est sopping wet beast in interviews 🥲 and I wound up getting fired in the end for having the audacity to call in sick 4 times a year instead of 3! I know, I know, I'm horrible and lazy and undeserving of the 8$ an hour they were paying me to lift heavy boxes and deal with rude middle aged women 9 hours a day 😮‍💨
I'm kinda wary about getting a job doing any sort of writing since writing is what I like to do for fun and relaxation. If it turned into a soul sucking activity for me I'd be pretty boned. Getting donations to write chapters is different because I'm getting money to write what I love and want to write anyway, but I don't want to start associating my favorite thing with work, ya know?
I know that kinda limits my options though. Especially since I ain't got no skills that could be used remotely beyond that. I'd love to have a part time retail job that I could just show up a couple times a week, do some menial tasks for a few hours with minimal human interaction, and then go home. That's my ideal job. But the only jobs available near me are full time or have requirements I do not meet.
I know, excuses, excuses! But I'll survive. I might have to sell a kidney but I'm sure I'll live (jkjk things aren't that dire, I promise)
Thanks for the advice though! It's been a really long time since I've had to work and the prospect is terrifying but with any luck it won't literally kill me 🤞

Sunday Evening
There are about ten different things I should be doing right now, but I am the queen of procrastination so here I am on the ol' blog. It was a very long week. I have such mixed feelings about the job. The people are absolutely wonderful. The work is interesting and beneficial. But the schedule is...unpleasant. Well, I say that as a person who doesn't really have a schedule. I had to ask several times if I could maybe know my work days/hours at least a week in advance. I'm there 8.5 hours but take a mandatory 1 hour unpaid lunch. So I work 7.5 hours most days, though I worked just 5 on Saturday. They are long days. I suppose I had the idea that part-time would be 20-ish hours a week. Looks like the plan is to work me just under the cut off between part/full time. Not having a set schedule in advance makes it really hard to plan any sort of normal life. For example, the Edgewaters have been asking me if I'm off on Feb. 10th to celebrate the grandgirl's 6th birthday. It's 12 days away and I still can't tell them yes or no. How can I make a doctor's appointment or even schedule a haircut? You don't call anywhere around here and get in quickly, so it would be nice to have, say, a month's schedule to reference when trying to make an appointment. I get the impression that it's not looked upon favorably if you throw a wrench in the works and request particular days off. I guess I'll ride it out and see if it gets better, maybe because I'm the newbie they're just seeing if I survive before locking me into the work calendar? Every time I asked, no one seemed to think it was a big deal. It's a big deal to me, I like to plan my life and get my ducks in a row - not knowing my works days/hours ten or twelve days out rattles me. Really hoping that part gets better.
.I'm a minimum of twenty yeas older than everyone at work, thirty years older than most of them. I feel like a fossil. Actually, the director is around my age, but she has put in her retirement notice. So I show up in my old lady glory and try not to grunt or groan when I get up from shelving books on the lowest shelf. I've had to move boxes, tables, racks of chairs, wood and glass bookcases and pretend that my sciatica isn't flaring up. There is a lot of ibuprofen involved. This is how I feel there...
Tumblr media
but they're all nice to me because their mamas raised them to respect their elders. I was at the circulation desk one morning and talking to another employee who is not yet thirty. I realized that I could easily be her grandmother.
Tumblr media
The eternal optimist in me says to keep plugging away and everything will settle into place and I'll just be the nice old lady at the library. The part of my brain that always yells, "FLEE! You don't belong here!" is screaming in my ear. Luckily, the eternal optimist occupies about 90% of my gray matter, so she usually wins. Onward, onward, onward. I mentioned that on Saturday I was off work at 2 o'clock. Shortly after that the Edgewaters came over and brought their pizza oven. That was a treat. They made gourmet pizzas for our dinner and we had a wonderful visit. Little Miss kept me busy with Barbies and books, and I plied her with cupcakes. They left today around 3 o'clock and the mister and I are sitting here now wondering if we even want to bother with dinner tonight. I'm ready for bed. The workweek is staring me in the face and I'm not ready. Have I whined enough? I swear I'm not unhappy, just tired. I'd give my right arm for 5 hour work days (like Saturday) instead of 8.5. Mickey has been amazing - actually cleaning and cooking! I have no reasons to complain. So I should probably shut up. That said, we're moving forward and starting to plan a 40th anniversary trip. I'm crossing my fingers that they'll grant me unpaid leave. As a part-time employee I don't accrue vacation days, so I guess we'll see how all of that plays out. Yikes.
I'm boring myself sick with this post and I can't imagine that it's been at all interesting or entertaining to read. I'll wait a couple of days and try to post something worth reading. There have been amusing incidents at the library, but I hesitate to write about any of it because this is a small town and my name is on the blog. I'll have to find my way with that. I certainly wouldn't name names or embarrass anyone. Oh well, I'm off to ready my clothes for work and pack a lunch. I'll try to keep a Mary frame of mind. No one I work with would get that reference.
Tumblr media
I'm so old.
*sigh* Until next time - stay safe, stay well. Sending out loads of love. XOXO, Nancy

Half a decade out im still so pissed at how horribly retail was. That year truly radicalized me like nothing else did. I had a friend visiting from another country and requested the time off (unpaid!) Six months in advance, and got told two days before they arrived I could not take the day off. My first office job I can literally text my manager "hey I dont wanna work today" and immediately start a paid day off. Theres no reason to be that cruel to retail workers I am still fueled by my anger over that

So I’ve had to deal with the absolute worst customer in my entire working career ever this past week. (It’s Rose at the Notre Dame university bookstore in case anyone was wondering) apologies in advance, it’s going to be long
So for this school we have two “titles” that are basically just boxes of lab equipment. There’s a lock, goggles, a lab coat, a notebook, and an access card for the online book. These are shipped as individual boxes since there’s a good amount of materials. This is different from what we usually send to stores, which would be boxes of multiple notebooks. I mention this bc the store manager, Rose made such a damned big deal about it.
So the whole ordeal started at the beginning of the month when my boss CC-ed me on an email conversation with Rose letting her know that she was going to be out of town so to contact me with any questions or requests for her order of the two bundles we had for the school. She ended the email with “hopefully things go smoothly this year” so already I have a bad feeling that this is going to be difficult.
Rose emails me to let me know that this is a time when they receive a lot of deliveries at their store (she specifically mentioned receiving football equipment in addition to books and school supplies) so she wanted to make sure that their order of nearly 1000 bundles could be split into smaller orders with only one order arriving per day to make sure that they weren’t overwhelmed at the store. A bit of an annoying request, but not impossible for us to attempt to accommodate. The only thing being that once an order leaves our warehouse we have zero control over how long it takes to deliver or when it gets delivered so I told Rose that I was putting notes on her orders so that they would hopefully ship on different days and then be delivered on different days. And she again reminded me that they needed the orders to arrive just as she specified. Okay, fine, I’m doing what I can.
Now, unfortunately, we’ve been having delays it’s getting materials and books in stock on time this season bc our printers are all short staffed and they can only print and ship so much at a time. So the bundles are already going to be a little later than expected. We had a team of people putting the boxes together at our satellite warehouse last last week so we could get them shipped out last week.
So we finally get things together and get the first order shipped out Tuesday. This first order was for 85 boxes of one title (11181) and 150 copies of the other (11171) and the manager at the satellite warehouse gets it shipped out Tuesday last week. On Wednesday I send Rose an email with the tracking information (I had to wait for our regular warehouse manager to get me the info bc the satellite manager was out all of last week after Tuesday) and at 4:56 Wednesday evening I get the following email from Rose:
“Beth, do you realize we already got three skids today? You sent a skid of 11181 when we only wanted 85 and two skids of 11171. Please do not send any more of 11181 and I will write up everything tomorrow and you can arrange a call tag to pick up the others. This is a hot mess and the paperwork the driver had was wrong and we have damaged cases as well. Way to go..........................”
So I was about to lose my mind at this. Not only was it at the end of the day, but she was incredibly rude over something that was genuinely a mistake and moreso, not my fault! The editor in charge of the projects wanted to respond to her that evening, but I told her that, quite frankly, I was off for the day and Rose didn’t deserve any of my unpaid time. Plus i wanted to hear back from the warehouse to see their end in case something happened so they sent out more than they were supposed to or if Rose was just stupid and we did what we said we would and it just wasn’t exactly what she was expecting. So the editor sent Rose a message saying that I’d get back to her in the morning with more information and I went to dinner w my parents and papa so that I wouldn’t punch a hold thru a wall in anger
So Thursday morning I get in to an email from our main warehouse manager (since the satellite manager was out the rest of the week) letting me know that we had sent three skids for the order. Because each skid holds 96 boxes. So, since the order was for 235 boxes, it physically had to ship as three skids. I was fucking giddy as I typed my response to Rose, spelling out why she received three skids and letting her know that I would be holding her remaining four orders for 150 of 11171 each until I got the go-ahead from her that she was okay with the fact that the orders would be one and a half skids each.
Well, Rose emails back that we actually sent three full skids instead of one full and two partials. She included the phrase “believe it or not, I can count” and then after reiterating how she wanted her orders sent said, “My next suggestion would be to fulfill my orders as requested going forward.” And asked if they’d be getting another order that day. So I typed up a very off-color response to her informing her how obnoxious and cunty I thought she was being and how her attitude was helping exactly zero people and quite honestly making me feel less inclined to be helpful at all. And then I typed up a nicer response and asked my boss for read it over to make sure that it was professional and appropriate. In my email i let her know that we only had the paperwork to go off of as the warehouse manager who put the shipment out was out of the office, so we legitimately did not know that she received more than what was on her order and that, no I had held her other orders to make sure that she was okay with how they were going to be shipped, but I could put them in and hopefully get the next one shipped out that day or Friday.
At that point, she got the other manager at their store involved who emailed Friday morning to ask me to confirm they’d be getting the rest of their order that day as they had students arriving on campus who would need them. I informed her that no, we hadn’t shipped anything else yet and said that it was bc our satellite warehouse was short staffed (which is essentially true. There’s one person who works in that warehouse— the manager— and he’d been out all week) so Rose jumped back in to say “Just to make certain I understand correctly, there hasn't been another order shipped since the first delivery? We need to get on the ball with this order short staffed or not folks!!”
At that point i was beyond pissed. They were asking for something above and beyond what we do normally, and we were doing everything we could to keep them placated, including shipping the rest of their orders for free, but there’s literally only so much we can do with the staff that we have. So, after venting into an empty word doc, I responded with “That is correct. We wanted to make sure that we wouldn't overwhelm you with multiple orders in a day, like you asked, and since the first shipment went out incorrectly, we wanted to be sure that it didn't happen again. Unfortunately that means that we aren't able to schedule a pickup from the shipper until Monday as it took some time to confirm that the rest of the shipments were okay to go forward per your instructions. The remaining shipments will be going out all of next week, but if you need us to send more than one order at a time, please let me know and I can coordinate with our warehouse team to make sure that happens.” (Also I’m now realizing that rose never actually confirmed that we could/should ship the rest of the orders so that’s a fun thing) as this was going on, I was trying to coordinate with our warehouse manager to see if we could get the next order out and (as my dad who works in that warehouse told me) they were basically running around asking every shipper who came by that day if they could take the order bc the store’s preferred shipper wasn’t available to pick it up. But we finally managed to get it picked up and shipped around 1 Friday afternoon
So, Rose, in all of her Karen-ness responds “In what world would it be, as the buyer, my fault for making and having confirmation of shipping directions the reason why your company has failed??” Funnily enough, that email sent me passed pissed off to just calm and I’d started typing a response when a message from my boss (who had been CC-ed on the entire conversation) popped up saying “take a minute, step away from your computer, then respond” so I laughed to myself and explained to Rose that I wasn’t trying to blame her (yes I was) but that I was only trying to explain why I was being so cautious and why there would be a gap in their shipments. Of course, then I get an email from the other store manager saying that she wished we had communicated the delay in shipments ahead of time and that if that had happened they would have been able to tell us that it mattered more that they received the boxes on time, not that they were received separately as originally requested, ending with “I would have thought this would be a logical conclusion on your part, so the mistake was mine in thinking that.”
And that’s when I realized that this manager (Becky) hadn’t been informed of everything that actually had happened and most likely just got the bitching from Rose that we’d messed up and it was all our fault that they wouldn’t be getting the boxes on time. So I got to inform her that I had told Rose immediately that we were going to be holding the remainder of her orders until we got the ok from her to ship since she’d been so upset with how the first shipment had arrived.
So once I’d gotten that all explained and smoothed out, I got an email from the freaking Macmillan rep for the area who’s been “filled in” on the situation and wanted to make sure that we were going to be able to get the store what they needed and when 🙄 and she followed up this morning to make sure that we’d done what we said. So we got the order delivered today, another one that’s either been delivered since or is being delivered tomorrow, a third that’s either tomorrow or Wednesday, and the last order that’s shipping tomorrow being delivered Wednesday or Thursday depending on shipping times.
Behind the scenes, I wasn’t aware, but my boss’s boss and his (new) boss had also been filled in about the situation and my boss had explained our half of the story, so I got a message from my boss’s boss thanking me for handling the situation and that he thought it had handled the situation well and professionally and that it was “100% the fault of an extremely difficult customer”
I’m just so Done with this and I hope to God I don’t ever have to deal with this store in the future

I pulled the ultimate check mate when my job tried to force me to quit for not returning to work a month after having my baby.
I worked 50+ hours a week managing the accounts and property for movie productions. (Small productions like Ridiculous 6, mostly Netflix productions) I was hired as the directors and accounting assistant. I found out I was pregnant and notified them immediately so we could be prepared when I went on maternity leave.
I went out of my way to make sure they were set by doing a lot of my work in advanced (I completed closing up the account for the production on site and setting up the accounts for the new production arriving after my leave. I trained my temporary replacement. I didn’t just work up until I went into labor... I went into work while in labor to work a 8 hour day tying up loose ends. I broke my back for this company often going in on days off or getting out long after my shift ended. I used my car and gas with no compensation. I took company calls outside of work and off the clock) I was beyond a team player!
They were covered, my replacement essentially just had to handle their basic request like opening a locked door, adjusting the temperatures for their office if requested, posting payments, opening mail and answering phones. I was the directors assistant but essentially I did the entire position because he always used the excuse of “working in the field” to stay home, he was on salary.
A month to the date out on maternity leave, I was contacted by my employer asking me to return from maternity leave (I still had 2 months of leave left and the company doesn’t provide insurance for the time so this time was out of my pocket).
I stated I could not as I had complications and medical procedures coming up. I was told a few days later the amount of work that came up and my declining to return two month early left them no choice but to hire for my position. I knew my rights so I wasn’t worried and took the remainder of my leave. When I returned they gave me only two four hour shifts a week, work was 15 miles outside city limits so I was essentially working for a babysitter and gas.
I complied because I was painfully aware they were trying to get me to quit so they could avoid a unemployment insurance payout. It was time to play check mate and at this point with my rights violated, I had the upper hand. They were a small company and didn’t have a HR department, they often outsourced questions to the company lawyer in California. Because the laws were different by state and his speciality was not employment claims, the lawyers advising was very limited.
Well they weren’t aware that cutting my hours (by 46 hours a week), my employer just handed me the unemployment they were trying to avoid (In New Mexico, if your employer cuts you from full time to part time hours, they are responsible for providing an insurance payout to compensate the difference in wages temporarily). I knew this wasn’t going to sit well with the arrogant director who thought him cutting my hours was going to be the shove I needed to exit the company.
I patiently waited for them to receive my paperwork for my claim. They did and boy did the director let me know he was angry, the state was considering my claim should their be no attesting by the company. The director called me into his office requesting that we discuss my job duties, he emphasized how little work we had coming in and how financially inconvenient it had to be for me. He was so sympathetic to my situation and the anguish as a single mother it must be causing me.
When I stated I didn’t mind, I was more than happy to be there (my conditions of unemployment is I had to comply to my employers work schedule and duties showing that I’m actively trying to be employed). This didn’t sit well with him, his manipulation wasn’t working as he planned. He then turned serious as he casually mentioned my unemployment claim and proceeds to pull out my documents requesting a response.
He tries to convince me that if I proceed with my claim and receive payment, if at any point I am terminated for my performance I would lose all source of income (unemployment and the company). He was trying to threaten me, I knew this not to be true and called his bluff by informing him I wish to proceed. He stated to me that if I resigned right then and there, he would provide me a reference in the future moving forward. (If your terminated, you can’t use them as a reference depending on the circumstances of termination. But if he fired me, as long as I was complying, I would then receive the full amount of unemployment).
At this point he realized his tactics to intimidate me weren’t working and I wasn’t budging. He tried to level with me and ask what was needed to get me to leave the company and I simply stated, “fire me.” Shocked he asked me if I’m sure that’s what I want, I reassured him. I walked out that afternoon with all my belongings and a letter of termination from my employer. I started receiving unemployment insurance the following week as he didn’t contest my payouts. I had a new baby I was able to stay home with a year on my employers tab.
TDLR: boss tried to fire me for taking all 3 months of my unpaid maternity leave, but ended up paying for a year of unemployment"

Question: How good of an idea would it be to go to an anime convention for a few hours immediately after a full-time physically stressful work shift? And by physically stressful, I mean constantly moving things that are bigger and heavier than me.
Metrocon is next month, I’ve planned to go since last year and bought my ticket all the way back in January, but despite requesting unpaid time off for that day over a month in advance (before schedules were even finished for this month), one of the managers rejected my request for some ungodly reason. I seriously want to go to this convention but I don’t want to spend money on a whole new ticket since those things aren’t refundable. Luckily the latest I can work is 1pm so I’ll have plenty of daylight time for the convention, but I go to work at 4am so I’d be at work for a full 9 hours maximum.
If I’m scheduled to work on the day of the con, how much do you think I’ll hate my life if I go after work and then work again the next day?

power; part one (g.d)
a/n: omg who’d have thought I’d be writing fics lol. not me that’s for sure, two fics in two days? who am i? at this rate i’ll have to make a masterlist:/// anyway here u go. armarni suit wearing, arrogant, big dick energy ceo grayson. i luv him already.
warnings: nothing really, power play i guess? if i do a second part it will probs contain smut though
blurb: Grayson Dolan was the CEO of Rothschester Global Investments LTD, the biggest financial company in New York, being his personal assistant was stressful and not because of the workload. He was domineering, blunt and took all of your work for-granted.
Tumblr media
You’d been working as an assistant to Grayson Dolan for 18 months now, and it was the worst and only “real job” you’d ever had. You’d graduated with a degree in Business Studies only a month prior to starting your job. “An excellent opportunity working for such a prestigious business man, you should be excited (Y/N)!” Your friends told you, and to think you actually believed them. Working for the “prestigious” Mr G.B Dolan was living hell, you were running around like an unpaid intern, he expects coffee as he comes into the office and an updated schedule all before 8am which is completely understandable, he’s a busy man, except he never shows an ounce of gratitude and at this point you’re not sure if the words “Thank you,” have ever left his lips.
“So, you decided to come into work today, Miss (Y/S/N)?” You looked up to see your boss leaned against the door frame leading into your office. He could clearly see you were startled, he was never there before you were. He brought his hands from his pockets and folded them over his chest.
“Sorry?” You questioned him, his coffee in your hand . You’d taken yesterday off work to attend to a family event planned months in advance. He chuckled in annoyance, shifting his position. “You didn’t show up yesterday. I can’t recall seeing you at any point during my extremely busy day but to be perfectly honest it was a relief, although I did miss my coffee.” Your cheeks began to flush, you hated him with every fibre in your body.
“I had planned this weeks in advance, Mr Dolan. It was all arranged. Anna told me she’d arranged cover for me and you’d approved it-“
“Well maybe you should arrange your own cover instead of getting Anna to do all of your work for you.” He cut you off. God, was such a hypocrite.
You smiled and calmly said “If you’d have checked the weekly schedu-“ but he continued to cut you off.
“Now why would I check my schedule when that’s exactly what I pay you for?” He pushed himself away from the frame stepping towards you and grasped the coffee cup in your hand. ”If you keep slipping up you won’t have a job to take “necessary” days off from.” He stared into your eyes still holding the cup, he was trying to intimidate you. He took his coffee and began making his way back through your office to his door. You followed putting your belongings on your desk.
“Yes, Sir,” You whispered under your breath. Well, you thought you’d whispered it.
Grayson stopped dead in his tracks.
With a clenched jaw he let out a low sigh as you looked up at him, realising he’d heard your comment.
He looked down at his large gold watch. “There are a few files on your desk, update them. Shouldn’t take you that long.” Next to your purse he’d placed a huge stack of client records, you looked up at him in disbelief. “I want them in an hour.” Cuffing the sleeves on his white dress shirt he stepped into his office, slamming his door as he went.
With 5 minutes to spare you walked through his door, files in hand. “All done, Mr Dolan.” He glanced over at you and then checked the time. “Mhmm.” He grunted. You placed the stack onto his desk. “Would you like me to file them away for you? Or do you think you can manage that.” You smiled sweetly, you’d had enough of his bullshit. As they say, fight fire with fire. Your comment caught him of guard and he coughed bringing a fist over his mouth to guard his smirk.
“I think you can tell I’m too busy to do that right now, Miss (Y/S/N).” He said, standing up from his dark leather chair and pushing it back under his desk, folding his arms and leaning over the back of it, watching you as he did. “Sorry for the trouble but it’d be such a help to me if you did, there’s just not enough time in the day is there?” He smirked, he wasn’t doing a single thing of importance. He was literally taking time out of his day to watch you put files back, rubbing it in your face that he had so much power over you, very much aware of his ability to control everything you did for him.
You couldn’t refuse the request, he was your boss after all. The only way to get back at him was to appease him. If you stormed out he’d get what he wanted and you definitely weren’t going to crack.
“Yes, Mr Dolan.” With a look of hatred you picked up the stack and walked over to the cabinet at the other end of the room. When you’d placed them you turned back to find Mr Dolan sat, arms folded on the edge of his desk. “Will that be all?” You asked bluntly. Your boss smiled and shook his head. “Come here.” He beckoned and you slowly made your way towards him.
When you were around a foot away from him he unfolded his arms and picked a pen out of his shirt pocket and began twiddling it through his long fingers. You watched the movement in his hand, hypnotised. His head rolled up and your eyes were almost level, him still being slightly taller even when he was leant against something. He gave a low chuckle and passed the pen over his thumb one last time before dropping it to the floor, right in front of your feet. You knew he’d don’t it on purpose.
“Pick that up for me would you?”
Two can play at this game, you thought. You gave him an angelic smile and began to bend down keeping eye contact the whole time you did. You grasped the pen and made your way back up, placing the pen straight in his pocket and nibbling your lip.
“Now, will that be all, Sir?”
He stood up, towering over you, hands in pockets.
“Go and close that door.” He growled.

Now is not the time. Now is absolutely not the right time. But. When it is the right time, when I do quit, I’m going to put in my two weeks and then when my shithead manager tries to talk to me about it, I’m going to lay down each and every individual instance that Walmart has caused me to experience an inconvenience, from when they wouldn’t give me time off for a final to just now when they denied my request for unpaid time off for my college graduation requested a month and a half in advance with only one other person in the department graduating, and then I’m going to tell him I hope he understands a fraction of how I feel when I walk. And I will clock out and I will leave and I will burn that motherfuckering bridge. And for now, I’m going to talk to the only decent manager in the place and get the time off request for my graduation approved, and I’m going to put in new availability that has me not working on Saturdays effective earlier than I was going to do that and it’s all going to be straight out of spite.

Overworked, underpaid, and underappreciated you soon win the loyalty of the demon intern, Zarnch.
First, by listening to his ideas which are quite cunning and help your own rise to success in the advertising business. And, second, by "doing lunch" with him every single day.
This routine baffles your competitive coworkers who are constantly trying to kiss up to the upper management while you just keep advancing.
It might also be due in no small part to calling your intern Archibald instead of Zarnch which was the name he was given when selected for the assignment. He also seems to appreciate you letting him occupy your guest bedroom during downtime and the video games you play in the evenings. You appreciate the second body to make use of the HOV lanes during commutes.
After learning you're being promoted a third time in the six months Archie has been "helping out" the demon you originally tried to summon glowers at you in the executive suite bathroom mirror. You quickly lock the door so no one will walk in on the bleeding lights and foul smell.
"What do you want?"
"You must return Zarnch at once."
"Why?" You're not foolish enough to let him go just because some demon says so.
"He hasn't completed the paperwork for the deal you requested."
"I didn't request a deal with him. I requested one with you and you didn't even bother to show up. I asked him for help. And he is very helpful. I'm keeping him for as long as he likes."
The demon gapes at your words.
"Zarnch belongs to me."
"No he doesn't. And don't call him that. His name is Archibald. I bet you don't even know what he prefers for lunch or how he takes his tea."
"You named him! Are you telling me you've been feeding him?"
"Of course I have. I also got him a wardrobe once we figured out he could pass for human and put him on the payroll. I won't hear of unpaid internships, they're inhumane."
"But he's my demon intern. You don't pay demon interns. You pay demons. And you owe me a soul. And Zarnch."
"Look, pal, I don't have a deal with you. I'm not paying you for freeing Archie from your sketchy employment contract, compensating him for his good work, and treating him with the respect he deserves. Now piss off before I take this up with your boss."
The demons shoulders scrunch up in worry at the threat. The blood all disappears, though the lighting is still a bit wonky.
"That won't be necessary. I'm sure we can work something out between us."
"We're not working anything out because we have no business together. Is there anything else? You're making me late for lunch."
"Could you ask Zarnch, sorry, Archibald to call me?"
"Why?"
The demon loses all of his fiery colored glow and the brimstone evaporates from the air.
"He's the only one who knows how to fix the copier and our contracts are backing up."
"I tell you what, if I can't convince the other partners here to promote Archie from my executive assistant to full partner in one year I'll ask him if he wants to call you."
The demon seems quite confused by this turn of events.
"What happens if he becomes a partner?"
"Well, then I'll be able to ask him to marry me and we can keep working together as equals. If you're nice, I may invite you to the wedding."
You just finished the ritual to summon a demon. However, your sacrifice was insufficient. Instead, they sent you their intern.

If u want to see the difference between retail and an office job I have two scenarios
I worked for Meij*r. I got 7 hours of payed time off a year. I knew this december Id have a friend visit from another country so I put in the official unpaid time off request 5 months in advance. No one responded and I had no way of knowing if it was approved or not until 7 days before my friend arrived I got my schedule and saw I was working every single day I had requested off.
I now work in an office. I have 26 paid days off a year counting holidays but not sick leave. At noon I can text my manager "im taking the rest of the day off" and get a K in response. People regularly dont show up for work and at 10 am we get an email letting us know they are taking the day off. This is all normal.

Note
Def a fuck managers story. I work at HellMart and I requested a day off, unpaid, over a month in advance. I work every weekend and I rarely get to see my family bc I usually work 11-8 which leaves no reasonable time for me to visit as they live an hour away. I figured as long as I asked in advance the asst manager could figure something out for my shift. Well the request was rejected and my manager hasn't given me a reason even though I asked. I'm just gonna eat the points and call out.

What is an apprenticeship?
Tumblr media
An apprenticeship is a one to six-year programme (depending on the apprenticeship level) where you’ll have a contract of employment and follow an approved study programme. So, your time will be split between doing a real job and studying for a formal qualification (at least one day per week) at either a college or training centre. Some apprenticeships offer additional qualifications too, such as a diploma.
Who can do an apprenticeship?
Tumblr media
Anyone – there’s no maximum age limit! You just need to be aged 16 or over and not in full time education. If you’re about to leave school, then you can still apply for an apprenticeship to start in the next academic year. Just make sure that you’re aged 16 or over by the end of the summer holiday before the apprenticeship starts.
What are the benefits of an apprenticeship?
1. You’ll earn money whilst you learn
You’ll be paid for your normal working hours; plus the time you spend at college as part of your apprenticeship.
Tumblr media
The amount you’ll get paid depends on your age and which year of your apprenticeship you’re in. You can find the pay rates in the ‘How much will I get paid on my apprenticeship?’ section of this article.
2. You’ll get a nationally recognised qualification
There are four levels of apprenticeships, and all of them offer a nationally recognised qualification – some are even accepted internationally!
Intermediate apprenticeship (Level 2) – the qualification you’ll get is equivalent to five GCSE passes at grades 9-4 or A*-C.
Advanced apprenticeship (Level 3) – the qualification you’ll get is equivalent to two A-Level passes, a Level 3 diploma or the International Baccalaureate.
Higher apprenticeship (Levels 4-7) – the qualification you’ll get is equivalent to the first stages of higher education, e.g. a foundation degree.
Degree apprenticeship (Levels 6 and 7) – the qualification you’ll get is equivalent to a bachelor’s or master’s degree.
3. You’ll get hands-on experience and practical skills
Tumblr media
At least 50% of your time will be spent at work during your apprenticeship. This is where you’ll work alongside more experienced staff – including a senior employee, who will coach you.
An apprenticeship is a great opportunity to pick up job-specific skills, as you’ll get hands-on experience with tools, programmes and/or software that’s used in the industry that you’re in.
4. You could get national or international recognition and help others
There are plenty of apprenticeship competitions available, where you’ll go up against other apprentices in your chosen industry. Examples include the National Apprenticeship Awards as well as sector specific awards, like the Screwfix Trade Apprentice competition.
Tumblr media
There are awards dedicated to apprentices from under represented backgrounds too, such as the Women in Construction Awards – check out previous winner Amy Eddleston’s story.
You can also become an apprenticeship ambassador for your industry. You’ll share your story and inspire other people and employers to consider apprenticeships! Get involved in the Young Apprentice Ambassador Network, as well your local ambassador network.
5. You’ll have the same rights as normal employees
As an apprentice, you should have an employment contract which entitles you to the following rights:
Break(s) during the working day – at least one 20-minute break if you work more than six hours daily. It’s usually unpaid and can be split up if needed.
Breaks during the working week – you’re entitled to at least 11 hours of uninterrupted rest between finishing work and starting work the following day. You’re are also entitled to a 24-hour period of rest in a seven-day period.
Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) – £95.85 per week (correct at the time of writing) if you’re too ill to work.
Statutory maternity, paternity, adoption and shared parental pay and leave.
A minimum notice period, that your employer must give to you if your employment ends.
Protection against unfair dismissal.
The right to request flexible working.
A reasonable amount of time off to deal with any emergencies involving your dependants (partner, child, parent etc).
Statutory Redundancy Pay – apprentices can be made redundant, but you’ll get redundancy pay and support from your training provider or the National Apprenticeship Service to help you find another apprenticeship.
Apprentices can also claim benefits, such as Universal Credit, if they need to.
Tumblr media
Are there any entry requirements for apprenticeships?
Yes – they vary depending on the apprenticeship’s level. You must check the job description for the specific apprenticeship that you’re applying for, as there might be particular qualifications and/or skills required.
Apprenticeship level Entry requirements Approx. completion time Intermediate (Level 2) You’ll need to show that you’re able to complete the programme. One year to 18 months Advanced (Level 3) Some industries ask for three or more GCSEs, but others don’t. 15 to 24 months Higher (Levels 4-7) At least five GCSEs at grades A-C plus Level 3 qualifications, such as A Levels or BTECs. Three to five years Degree (Levels 6 and 7) Five GCSEs at grades A-C plus Level 3 qualifications, such as A Levels or BTECs. Some degree apprenticeships ask for specific grades, and for the applicant to have qualifications in subjects that are related to the apprenticeship. Three to six years
What can I do if I’m not eligible to do an apprenticeship, or I want to try out a job role or industry before committing to an apprenticeship in it?
If you don’t meet the entry requirements for an apprenticeship, or you simply want to discover what the industry’s like, then you can do a traineeship. It’s an unpaid course with work experience that gets you ready for an apprenticeship or the workplace. You might get your travel and meals paid for during the course.
Tumblr media
You can apply for a traineeship if:
You’re eligible to work in England.
Unemployed, with little or no work experience.
Aged between 16 to 24 with qualifications that are lower than Level 3.
If you’re aged 16 to 17 and are based in Wales, or in S5 or S6 and live in Scotland, then there are programmes available to give you a taste of your chosen industry and provide a foundation for a future apprenticeship.
Traineeships in England.
Traineeships in Wales.
Foundation apprenticeships in Scotland.
There isn’t a traineeship programme available in Northern Ireland at the moment, but the Youth Training Strategy is currently in the process of developing one.
How much will I get paid during my apprenticeship?
Tumblr media
You’re entitled to the apprentice rate throughout your apprenticeship. The rates are (correct at the time of writing):
16 to 18-year olds:
£4.15 per hour.
19+ year olds in the first year of their apprenticeship:
£4.15 per hour.
19+ year olds that have completed the first year of their apprenticeship:
National Minimum Wage for your age, which you can find on gov.uk.
However, many apprentices get paid more than the apprentice rate. Phil, a heating and plumbing apprentice with Rated People member Dyno, got paid £12 per hour from his first day. Find out more about Phil’s experience on our YouTube channel.
youtube
Apprentices earn more than university graduates in many sectors, too. We looked at data from TotalJobs and found that construction apprentices have a 21% higher starting salary compared to graduates. Visit our Trade Advice Centre to check out the rest of our research on career paths: apprenticeships vs. university.
How many hours will I work on my apprenticeship? Can I work overtime?
Tumblr media
Apprentices work for a minimum of 30 hours per week, plus one day spent studying at college. You can work overtime, however, if you’re under 18, then you can’t work more than 8 hours per day (40 hours weekly). If you’re over 18, then you can’t work over 48 hours per week. There are some exceptions though, such as for jobs that require 24-hour staffing.
Apprenticeships can also be made part-time if your employer agrees. You’ll need to work at least 16 hours a week minimum.

Oof so I was hoping to attend Metrocon next month and I spent a lot of money on a ticket all the way back in January but I might not end up going after all because the unpaid time off request I put in at work over a month in advance (the schedules for that month aren’t even made up yet) got rejected by one of the managers for some ungodly reason 🤦‍️
I don’t know if I wanna ask why my request got rejected since I’m still new at this job and I don’t want to look entitled so I’ll probably just keep track of the schedule as new days are added and hope I don’t get a shift scheduled on the day of the con
I guess it’s not so bad, though? If I do have work that day, the latest I can stay at work is 1pm since I start at 4am so I guess I can drive straight to the con after work and get back home before I have to go back to bed at 5pm for the next work day (assuming I work the next day). Or I could just buy a whole new ticket for a day I do have off since I’m getting paychecks now, idk

13TH-MONTH PAY IN THE PHILIPPINES: HOW TO COMPUTE 13TH-MONTH PAY? | GUIDEPH.COM
Tumblr media
The thirteenth month pay is an extra installment given to delegates toward the year's end. In any case, the estimation of the thirteenth month pay depends upon various segments and it, generally, copies the estimation of a representative's regularly scheduled compensation.
In any case, the request that boggles on the brain of every representative is the way a particular organization registered their thirteenth month pay. In this article, I will attempt to react to the subject of how to process the thirteenth month pay here in the Philippines.
13TH-MONTH PAY: DEFINITION
thirteenth month pay infers a preferred position given to a laborer signifying one-twelfth (1/12) of the worker's basic pay inside a timetable year.
It is recommended by the Philippine work laws as a necessary preferred position and should not to be confused with the "Christmas Bonus" customarily rehearsed in the neighborhood business setting. The Christmas Bonus isn't a commitment, and must be discharged upon a business' deliberate judgment. It is ordinarily given by businesses to show gratefulness and thankfulness for the organization delivered by their laborers inside a year. The thirteenth month pay, on the other hand, is an essential as demonstrated by the law. In any case, supervisors who disregard to give them before the year's over are reliant upon legal solicitation by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
WHAT COMPRISES An "Essential SALARY"?
Fundamental pay fuses all benefit of a laborer paid by the business for organizations delivered to the association (for purposes behind enlisting the13th-month pay). In any case, the accompanying ought not be associated with the count of the central pay:
Normal expense for fundamental allowances;
Advantage sharing portions;
Money comparable not used to travel and wiped out leave credits;
Extra time pay;
Premium remuneration;
Night move differential;
Occasion pay;
All recompenses and cash related points of interest which are not thought of or joined as a significant part of the typical or fundamental pay of a worker.
WHO ARE ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE THE 13TH-MONTH PAY?
Tumblr media
1. EMPLOYEES
Workers in the private section (all larger part), paying little heed to their position, task, or business status, and any methodology by which their wages are paid. (For the run of the mill representative to be made sure about, the individual being referred to probably worked for at any rate one month during the timetable year.)
Administrative workers are barred from the thirteenth month pay albeit a couple of associations in spite of everything choose to give the advantage.
(Administrative representatives are laborers whose understanding of business requires or permits the individual being referred to enroll, move, advance, suspend, lay off, pardon, prize, instruct or announce the grievances of various workers, or to make direct recommendations on these issues to the business.)
2. Businesses
All businesses are required to pay their run of the mill laborers thirteenth month pay despite the amount of workers they use.
(A business is an individual or business that uses in any event one individual, especially for wages or remuneration. This could be an affiliation, foundation, government component, association, organization, capable administrations firm, non-advantage alliance, autonomous business, and store.)
WHEN IS THE 13TH-MONTH PAY GIVEN?
Tumblr media
Under Presidential Decree No. 851, organizations from the private part in the Philippines are constrained by a grave commitment to pay their normal specialists a 13-th Month Pay not later than December 24 reliably. The thirteenth month pay is practically identical to one-twelfth (1/12) of a specialist's fundamental yearly pay.
A business, nevertheless, may give the specialist's one-half (½) of the 13-month pay before the opening of the ordinary year and the remaining half preceding December 24 of reliably.
HOW IS THE 13TH-MONTH PAY COMPUTED?
Tumblr media
The measure of the thirteenth month pay won't be under 1/12 of the total basic pay picked up by the delegate inside a calendar year.
Again, explicit sorts of benefit are avoided as a "fundamental compensation" for purposes behind preparing the thirteenth month pay (referenced above on the significance of "essential pay").
For example, in case you get occasion pay, debilitated points of interest, benefits, premium for works performed on rest days and occasions, pay for customary occasions, night differential, maternity leave benefits, extra time pay, or all rewards and money related favorable circumstances which are NOT thought of or facilitated as a part of the standard or essential compensation, these benefits will be stayed away from in the figuring of your fundamental pay.
FORMULA AND COMPUTATION
The equation is basically essential. You ought to figure all your compensation or salary (with the exception of benefit not pondered a bit of your essential compensation) inside a timetable year and partition it by 12. The absolute is the practically identical thirteenth month pay that must be paid to you by your manager.
1. Bit by bit guidelines to sum up or process your thirteenth month pay if you have unfortunate subtleties without pay/maternity leave/unpaid leaves/paid leaves/late record.
See that your thirteenth month pay is definitely not a fixed whole contrasting with 1/12 of your month to month essential compensation. It is resolved reliant on the genuine number of days that you worked incorporating leaves with pay.
2. Assessing or enlisting the thirteenth month pay if there's a remuneration augmentation or pay differential.
The compensation augmentation will be viewed as while enlisting the13th-month pay, given that the additional whole is simply applied in the essential month the lift in pay created results and starting there.
So for example in November you got a compensation augmentation of Php 1,000, your fundamental pay for November and December will be Php 17,000, individually. This entirety will by then be added to your all out essential compensation earned during the year.
3. Processing thirteenth month pay for surrendered representatives or separated/fired workers.
Surrendered or isolated representatives are up 'til now qualified to get the13th-month pay.
Sec. 6 of the Revised Guidelines on the Implementation of the thirteenth Month Pay Law gives that regardless of whether you have left your activity or was ended, you are as yet qualified or qualified for get the thirteenth month-pay with respect to the measure of time you worked during the year, around from the time you began working during the schedule year up to the time you surrendered or ended from the administration.
For example, you worked distinctly from January to September. Your fundamental compensation during the said period will be incorporated and starting there apportioned into 12. The total subsequent to separating is your proportionate thirteenth month pay.
4. Preparing the thirteenth month pay for Absence Without Leave or AWOL laborers or delegates with uncertain leave.
Missing representatives likewise those under inconclusive leave are qualified or qualified for the thirteenth month pay gave these laborers have endeavored to in any occasion one month during a timetable year.
For instance, in case you worked for a fourth of a year and went into uncertain leave after, you will be equipped for an altered thirteenth month pay.
As some may express, the thirteenth month pay is an anticipated compensation held up by heaps of workers since they can have an extra installment which is perfect and significant during the year's end for Christmas party or on the mid-year for the enrollment of their kids.
I believe I have tended to the request that boggles your mind on the most capable technique to process your thirteenth month pay.
