i'm heading to thailand in a few weeks and it's my first time so i was wondering if you have any tips for a first time traveller? i also want to try and see some of the bl actors - how did you manage to see so many? help?
First of all can I just say how incredibly envious I am you're going to Thailand soon. I'd give literally everything I have to be back there. I hope you have the best time. Because it was a fucking dream holiday for me.
I do have a few basic tips for you:
1.) Download the Grab app (Thailand's version of Uber). Trust me when I say it's going to be your best fucking friend. @bestillmyslashyheart and I had every intention of using public transport when we were there but the Grab app was so fucking cheap and it was generally the easiest/quickest option to get to all our intended destinations.
If you're a solo traveller I recommend the Grab Bikes, they're your best option for beating the truly HORRENDOUS Bangkok traffic at peak times and they barely cost more than 150 baht for journeys no longer than an hour (if you're from the UK that's about £3.50 per journey- truly wild)
Also, another note on travel, if its raining or between the hours of 3pm-8pm and grab tells you it will be a 40 minute journey, double it, Bangkok traffic is no fucking joke. Gridlock city centre.
You should also download the BKK app if you do plan to use public transport.
2.) Always carry cash on you. Most places in the city take credit/debit cards but there is usually a fee and having cash if you're in the more rural areas of Thailand is a must. We learnt that the hard way.
3.) Learn basic thai phrases. I made a list before we went and they came in so handy. If you want my list feel free to ask but here is a few we used a lot. Sawadee ka/krub (polite hello) Kop khun ka/krub (polite thank you) Kor tord ka/krub (polite sorry) Hong naam? (bathroom?) If you can't handle spice, like my white ass, you might want to learn the phrase for "no chilli" which is: Mai Sai Preek or "not spicy" which is: Mai Ped
4.) 7-Eleven will be your saving grace. There is a 7-Eleven on every fucking street. No word of a lie. They're everywhere. And they're so fucking cheap. You need a quick snack to keep you going before lunch? Go to 7-Eleven. 10/10 recommend their toasties. Also a great place to stock up on water. 6 baht (13p) for their branded water. Also, if you're a BL fan they have a lot of the BL branded items from the shows in there. It's where I found the Kinnporsche sex bread, the kp helicopter bj nose inhaler, the between us green tea drink, the bad buddy seaweed snack etc.
5.) If you're planning to visit the temples you need to be super respectful of their culture. The main thing to be aware of is wearing the appropriate clothing. It's really important to be respectful and cover yourself when you're visiting these sacred places. Also most temples you have to take your shoes off before you enter, so I suggest wearing easily slip on/off shoes for your temple days. My crocs were a godsend.
6. Icon Siam is a very fucking overwhelming place. If you don't do well in crowds or you struggle to navigate, I'd say avoid Icon Siam. It's Bangkok's biggest and busiest mall for a fucking reason. And trying to get a pick up from any of the malls is a literal nightmare. The smaller but no less impressive malls I recommend are Siam Paragon and Central World (only 5 mins walk from each other).
7.) If you go during rainy season (which you are) always have an umbrella or poncho to hand and wear weather appropriate shoes. because let me tell you when that rain hits, it hits hard and it hits fast, and those streets are flooded within minutes.
I think that's all for the basics. But I can go into more depth if you have any specific questions. My dms are always open.
For the BL specific events, you should absolutely be following all of the big production companies on either insta (where I got most of my info from), facebook, or twitter. Most of them post the artists schedules a week or two in advance so keep your eyes peeled for those updates and check your availablity- lots of the events happen in the malls.
I would also personally recommend getting to the event a few hours beforehand to scope out the best area to place yourself. The main trick is to follow the obvious fanclubs. They're always posting about where they are and always have light up signs of the actors name on them. And if people are sitting in groups by barriers, that is where you need to place yourself. Most of the events are very well organised and will have barriers already in place fo the best views.
Don't be afraid to ask. Some of the fans won't speak English, but a large majority do. There's no harm in asking if you're in the right place.
And also on that note, if you see girls running in one particular direction- follow them. They're usually headed to the event you're headed to and they know the way better than you do. It'll save so much time and you'll end up with a much better spot.
I think that's everything! Hope this helps! Let me know, and please come back and share your experiences! I'd love to hear all about it!!

Old Draft: Cold as ice rn my pressure is so low it’s stinging throughout the body n my chest is paining my lips are quivering wid any like sensation my chest feels too tight & weird.
Click on the inspiration board for better quality, it looks best however in my camera roll cuz it gets rasterised once published on twitter n other social media apps
Tumblr media
I had created these moodboards long back. I was talking about them the other day, ppl will hate ‘em cuz they might find them childish idk but there’s a lot of significance attached to each one. I’m not in the state to elaborate further but you can read my article which is scheduled for 7th Mar it has all the details www.lilacnights.com/post/my-little-barista I have never felt so numb before my bp is too low and I’m feeling like this is my last day.
Speaking of the other bathroom moodboard, my parents had just given me a raw area even 10 yrs ago when I was in my teens my living conditions were very poor I was inexperienced and I had no help (even now I don’t) so I don’t want ppl to assume I’m very happy with all my stuff or I have my family’s support & that I’m just being “whiny” for no reason. They don’t care about me… they pretend in front of strangers. The bathroom was partially tiled (I’m not in the state to write my pressure is severely low so is my heartrate n I’m very numb) it was partially tiled it was embarrassing, one cud even see the raw grouted masoned wall there, the tub had no skirting it was again just a drop in tub which they’d dumped inside (haphazardly) there was fungus growing on my shampoo and other Bath stuff, I can barely breathe rn I am not obliged to give any explanations there was no towel ring or even a wash basin stand I wud wash my hands in the outside bathroom I wud go all the way there now I’m bed ridden (luckily I renovated everything) I was made to cry when I called someone from urban clap to fix a stand there and what’s worse is that he fixed it in a slant manner it was so tilted that my clothes would get wet the WC was leaking so were all the attachments in the shower area but my mother kept challenging me and fighting as to why I had to renovate it (I used it that way for TEN LONG YEARS an entire decade) I was made to cry LIKE HELL even in my horrible health condition and I was abused a lot…
I had somehow renovated it in 2021, unfortunately now I’ll have to do it again because of some major fault on the plumber’s part + other irrémédiable issues. I was also surprised to learn that our own Indian brand is keeping their classic range only for show here at the orientation centre and EXPORTING everything to UK & Dubai where they already have other alternatives such as Drummonds and Burlington, they have the entire set with the crutch and the hand shower THERE whereas in India everything has to be purchased separately and that too they have DISCONTINUED the crutch (HERE) without which its useless, our own crutch which is made in Rajasthan is exported there and they’ve kept this classic range only for show, everything is reserved for exports. Whatever looks ugly or has that local masculine design (every other local brand has the same products only the labels differ) is kept for Indians, we are beggars or what? All the classic, heritage stuff is sent there for what? To compete with other rival brands? They are so stingy and frugal when it comes to Indian customers that they kept only ONE piece/unit in the thermostatic model and divided that also into 2 halves, just like Greek God Zeus who had split soulmates out of intimidation, the top part is sent to Delhi and the back concealed component is kept for Mumbai! How stupid? It has been rendered useless for both the cities now. I somehow procured the crutch from an old stock (box packed) and I was continuously getting a rusted concealed back unit (thermostat which is super pricey) from everywhere cuz they were rotating the same damaged piece, I somehow got in touch with another dealer and ordered it from the main hub but it was the same one from that “pair” which had no front component cuz that was lying in Delhi. So I got the front also from an old stock it has scratches but at the back of the plate so they won’t be visible. It has those beveled edges typical hotelier style which I wanted since long but I can’t elaborate further like I said, I can explain everything detail probably in person… wish I had someone to talk to I’ve always been passionate about designing and interiors in fact everything, give me any topic. All I want to say is STOP smuggling what’s meant for us - Indians… all the way to UK & Dubai. You are an Indian brand, I love the quality and make I was so excited for this I’d planned it since Nov, I got it somewhere in the first week of Dec or so (last year) but we were still struggling for the top thermostat (front and back both) and hell no I’ll never put those ugly local designs in my bathroom. I have my soap jar and other apothecary stuff there I will never compromise. I’m a lot into designing… I was going to recommend everyone to pick both your brand as well as this particular range but then I realised people won’t be able to buy anything cuz you don’t keep all this stuff for Indians. We want the crutch which comes with the Victorian set, it’s an essential, and the entire range all the models (black and white both) I was so happy with the make and mechanism but I ended up being really disappointed.
I can’t write much, people even buy your freestanding bathtubs in India we have all started buying that I’ve seen the reviews, for such bathtubs we require bigger spouts too and this was much more ideal I even opened the autocad to check if the thermostatic one which I’d selected had a single outlet or not cuz I didn’t want anything with a diverter I have a bathtub I needed something right there for my hand to reach while sitting inside the tub hence we had to spend more and I didn’t want the 3 way one, this set has a different spout which is better than the ones we are commonly getting in abroad they all have a flat nose, whereas this has a round ribbed border which looks more expensive and a mesh filter plate inside, I needed one with a crutch cuz I don’t have more room there to fit both my soap tray as well as the shower bracket and I’ve optimised whatever space I had skilfully to keep all my apothecary jars and everything to have a full sized vanity, a free standing almost 1700 mm bathtub… (cuz again you don’t get smaller ones in India where bathrooms are matchbox sized) and all kinds of other things even wall art and frames.
So I needed one with a crutch provision not a bracket, secondly the long bend exposed pipe would’ve been difficult to put there as I have a highlighter tile which is running throughout the bathroom lastly it had a tap not a spout which is a bit unappealing moreover its not long enough to enter my tub completely so all the bubble bath solution would’ve ended up at the edges (cuz it has to be poured right under the faucet in running water) and last but not the least this was my main reason - we could’ve spent half the amount but we opted for the thermostat mainly because the 3 way one had a pull and twist knob on the tap to switch between Bath spout and hand shower and I wanted the one with a lever/dongle cuz of my previous experience (which was horrible) with Kohler no offence and with wet hands it’s anyway difficult but yeah Kohler’s spout was faulty. I wanted to make a budget bathroom so I got from there but I went wrong because I also realised that all my stuff is very common Kohler has only one design or product in each category and they are promoting the same 1-2 things everywhere which means I ended up with something really common, faulty and boring. Nothing vintage or whatever we want, just the typical semi modern 2003 stuff. I’m very happy with this one (I haven’t used it yet but I saw all the functioning with the lever and knobs) and this is exactly why I wanted it, I have put the entire thing together as a set & I matched the the bottom mixer with the thermostatic one on top for my overhead shower to have 2 separate modes, I’ll be able to use the overhead along with the hand shower BOTH AT THE SAME TIME secondly I was looking for a budget mixer again but that too was discontinued and we anyway would’ve had to upturn the outlet flang or whatever from behind cuz it was meant for filling pails and buckets, now after the thermostat my shower portion is gonna have a modern touch because of how they’ve designed it, when you are paying so much you are getting that typical shower console look with black insets, they aren’t illuminated because they are not digital (that is usually there in a 50k to 1 lakh unit) however you do get the console with that typical look and everything since its an automatic model and I even edited all my stuff including the renders to make them more realistic for my moodboard cuz I was not able to find real life images. Ab naak mat kataiyen cuz ppl might show interest and none of this is easily available for Indians… it’s the classic range which should be manufactured and supplied in full swing/bulk please do that why is India always lagging behind? There’s an entire cult following including me for this Victorian style everywhere in abroad but in India we are not getting it easily especially in Mumbai.

Brass Door Handles: A Blend of Elegance and Permanence
Tumblr media
Brass door handles have been one of the sought-after timepieces for both modern as well as traditional interiors. Not only are they good for their aesthetic value but also durability has made brass door handles a functional blend of functionality and designs for apartments, houses, and buildings. In this blog, supported by five case studies and a huge number of statistics that give a clear proof why they are superior in terms of performance and design, we discuss the advantages of brass door handles.
1. Brass Door Handles: Durability and Longevity
Brass is a metal alloy consisting mainly of copper and zinc; hence, it possesses special characteristics such as resistance to corrosion, tarnish, and wear. Brass door handles are much more robust than other materials. They can endure for decades without losing shine or functionality.
Case Study 1:
Residential Home Revamp in London
A couple in London replaced their old door handles with solid brass door handles as they were doing all the renovation work on the house. The brass handles still look fine after 10 years with minimal maintenance. As the homeowner says, "We expected to replace them within a few years, but they still look brand new." This case reveals how long brass door handles last.
Fact: the door handles shall last for up to 20-30 years if properly maintained; do not believe those that claim to outlive other door handles as they are made of brass and not aluminum or plastic.
2. Versatility and aesthetic value
Brass door handles offer beauty without any denial. With brass door handles, you can easily find a wide range of designs and finishes that will harmonize with the greater part of house interior styles: from vintage and classical to contemporary and minimalist looks. There are polished, antique, and satin finishes to choose from.
Case 2: Luxury Apartment in Dubai
A luxury apartment in Dubai opted for antique brass door handles throughout the property. Warm and rich brass tones will give luxury apartment interior rooms a luxurious feel. As designers say, brass is the best to produce a high-end look that can tie down both marble floors and wooden accents.
Statistic: According to a survey, an overwhelming 75% of interior designers who supported the recommendation for brass door handles when an up-scale look is being envisaged in a residential project.
3. Brass Door Handles and Hygiene
One of the unknown benefits of brass door handles is its own antimicrobial properties. Brass, through copper, can kill naturally bacteria and other harmful microorganisms, making it safer in homes, especially in kitchens and bathrooms, for those very hectic places.
Case Study 3:
Public Library in New York
A public library made brass door handles an improvement on hygiene in high-contact areas by replacing steel door handles. Bacteria colonies on the handles reduced from 90% during the six months, hence reducing infections spread between staff and visitors.
Statistic: Brass can kill 99% of bacteria within two hours; therefore, it can be used as a material for door handles in healthcare and public environments.
4. Sustainability of Brass Door Handles
Brass has strength and is also highly recyclable. So brass door handles are an environmental-friendly option for people, who want to minimize their carbon footprint in the environment. Brass, unlike all plastic and synthetic materials, is melted down and reused without losing its tensile strength or quality.
Case Study 4:
Eco-Friendly Hotel in the UK
An eco-friendly hotel in the UK chose brass door handles as part of their sustainability efforts. With this, they were able to obtain 100% recycled brass handles that had the least possible impacts on their overall carbon footprint. According to management, the contribution of sustainable materials such as brass went a long way in the green certification it needed to attract environmentally conscious travelers.
Statistic: Brass is arguably one of the best-recovered materials globally; up to 90% of all brass contain recycled content.
5. Brass Door Handles: an Investment for the Penny Pincher
Although brass door handles are more expensive to purchase upfront than nearly all other door handles, the material's durability and low upkeep make it a very savvy buy in the long term. Homeowners and businesses often find that brass door handles do not need to be replaced or repaired nearly as often as more value for your money.
Case Study 5:
Commercial Office Building in Chicago
Fifteen years ago, the commercial office in Chicago installed brass door handles throughout its facility. The handles were brought into this building 15 years ago, and they operate in a frenzy every day, but up until today, they have required minimal maintenance. The choice has certainly saved the company a lot of money on replacements. According to the building manager, "Choosing brass door handles was one of the best decisions for our office. We've had virtually no problems with wear or breakage."
Statistic: Brass door handles cost 30 percent more initially than comparable steel and aluminum door handles, but pay for themselves long-term in value.
Conclusion
The unbeatable blend of durability, aesthetics, hygiene, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness makes brass door handles the best choice. Whether it is an upgrade in a house or an in-house furnishing in a commercial premise, brass door handles will be providing an elite and premium quality good enough to last forever. With case studies and statistics which need to be seen to be believed, it is quite evident that brass door handles would be a smart investment for any project.
Want to see more pictures or browse other brass door handles? Visit Beautifulhandle to see which is your best for your home or office.

I've had the previous post queued for 5 full years.
It's tough. I had so much hope, I was going through the worst year of my life at my parents'. Since primary school I always wanted to Leave, I constantly dreamt about my ideal adult life, and obviously the worse my present situation got, the more intense this desire became. Everything hinged on leaving.
The year following this post (0): I enter my final year of highschool - relationship with the parents is still horrible AF, I have fun with my dear friends of my life, then COVID hits in December, and comes lockdown in March. I'm chilling, ready not to be accepted in my No1 college choice. But I do, and I end up Leaving, far away, abroad.
Nothing much happens (1), still deeply in lockdown. I have a painfully lonely first half year but the second half gets better — so much unknown; ignorance really is bliss, 2nd year (2) is really tough, although not alone - far from it - I experience an even more painful flavour of loneliness. it's a year full of anxiety and depression and anger, a Lot of Tears and vodka, often starting as soon as I open my eyes in the morning, I don't go to classes and I won't go anymore. 3rd year starts, what's been going on + what's coming up will make up the darkest year of my life thus far. (3) I am stuck 24/7 inside at the most anxiety inducing internship at a renowned company, that shouldn't be remote but I can't bear to go outside, and they let it fly. I have the most painful feelings one can experience, I drink even more vodka, I watch the best TV series I've ever watched, I put a plastic bin bag over my head, I mix up pills and vodka and leave an angry note on my desk to the person that causes 80% of all this - which, this message, he never sees; I don't really believe it - I know the pills aren't strong enough - and I'm right. I still somehow have fondness for my trips to the grocery store and the recipes I cooked there. I still think about that flat, its brown wooden floor, its brand new bathroom, and tiny bed facing big windows that look over the soviet style courtyard where I look at stormy skies and squirrels running on the rooftops and in the snow.
I graduate college, feelings of loneliness had completely gone away/shrunk at this point. I get my first real job in a new city (4), new country. I planned on only staying a year or two. The people are great, the tasks suck, I dream of going to the UK or Australia. I have a lot of free time - I basically work part-time, I develop new hobbies. I find a lot of freedom and comfort in my isolation, I still get drunk sometimes when I get triggered (which is easily done), one day its a big one, I drink a lot and I finally break up with a boyfriend I shouldn't have been more than 6 months with and definitely not 2.5 years. Alcohol becomes not enough. Before or after that it doesn't matter, I am bad, I am worse. I am the most suicidal I ever was. I try and get help, whatever. The smell of vodka makes me want to throw up now, how did we get here. I don't know what's next and that used to be really scary, now it's just a dark tunnel, a black hole, that I don't even think about.
One year since I moved and started working here (5), it's comfortable and there's nowhere in the world where I can get as much free time and money as I do here so I have long given up on leaving, I still feel lonely but that specific emotion has long shifted and transformed in something I can't recognise, too entrenched in it. Cerebrally, I sometimes recognise this is happening and I allow myself to feel that way for 5 minutes.
So, where am I now that's not so bleak? I suppose I am trying to develop artistic skills, which is pretty cool, and I do have some hope regarding those. I'm still here.
Shout-out to me, 5 years ago.

Preserved Flowers in Liverpool
Preserved flowers are a great way to turn ephemeral blooms into long-lasting mementos. They can be a romantic gift or a lovely addition to your home décor. They are also a wonderful alternative to fresh flowers.
Silica sand is an effective way to speed up the drying process. You can find it in sachets, usually sold with shoes or electronics, or at your local craft store.
Online florists
Flowers are the perfect gift for special Preserved flowers in Liverpool like Saint Valentine’s Day or wedding anniversaries. However, they can wilt very quickly. Preserved flowers and plants are a beautiful alternative because they don’t wilt and will last for months or even years. They are also an ecological choice, since they consume less energy when being transported and stored.
Consumer testers rated these services highly for their easy-to-use websites and gorgeous, high-quality bouquets. Some of the services offer specific bouquets that are best suited for a particular occasion, while others allow you to choose your own flowers. In addition, some services let you customize the bouquet by adding a note and a vase.
The flower delivery service Flowerbx specializes in single-variety bouquets and has provided blooms for luxury brands like Tom Ford and Burberry. Its price point is more than you’ll find at your local florist, but it offers a flexible subscription plan that lets you pause or cancel at any time.
Dutch-style flower shop
This cult-favourite florist specialises in seasonal arrangements that you can buy instore or online. Their bouquets are long-lasting and make for perfect Instagram fodder. They’ve even been used in high-profile events. The company also sells their bouquets to a number of retail and hotel chains.
The duchess of Sussex recently received two exquisite flower bouquets from Dutch Flower Shop. The first was composed of Hellebore, Naomi Roses, Delphiniums, Wax Flower, and Eucalyptus. The second featured a mix of Tulips, Roses, and Anemones.
Nikki Tibbles’ decadent posies are a hit with the city’s chicest interior designers and restaurants. She’s also a go-to for A-list celebrities, including Coleen Rooney and Jimmy Choo. Her bespoke bouquets, which you can order online, include antique pastel hues and contrasting textures.
Airtasker
Airtasker is the largest local services marketplace in Australia and is now launching in the UK. Their UK campaign, adged ’Yeah Tasker’, aims to make the company a household name. It features a main TVC that shows Dan, an avid 90’s fan, who hires a Tasker to build him a flatpack den – perfect for all his memorabilia. The advertisement also highlights a comprehensive matching mechanism that efficiently matches task posters with Taskers who have the skills and availability to complete the job. It also features messaging tools that facilitate clear, direct communication between the parties to negotiate prices and make arrangements.
The service includes many different types of cleaning tasks, including oven cleaning, bathroom cleaning, and even laundry. In addition, the website offers party-planning services for special occasions such as birthdays and Valentine’s Day. Boiler and Central Heating Replacement Quotes/Prices
Introduction
When it comes to replacing your boiler or central heating system, understanding the costs involved is crucial for making an informed decision. At Smart Heating Hub Ltd, we are dedicated to providing you with accurate and transparent quotes for all your heating needs. This guide will help you navigate through the different factors affecting boiler and central heating replacement prices.
Factors Influencing Replacement Costs
Type of Boiler
The type of boiler you choose significantly impacts the overall cost. There are several types available, including:
Combi Boilers: These are the most popular in the UK due to their efficiency and compact size. They provide both hot water and heating without the need for a separate water tank.
System Boilers: Ideal for homes with more than one bathroom, system boilers require a hot water cylinder but no water tank.
Conventional Boilers: These are best suited for homes with traditional heating systems and require both a hot water cylinder and a cold water tank.
Boiler Brand and Model
The brand and model of the boiler can also affect the price. High-end brands with advanced features tend to be more expensive but offer better efficiency and longer warranties.
Installation Complexity
The complexity of the installation process is another significant factor. If you are upgrading from an old system, the installation might involve additional work such as new pipework or changes to your heating controls, increasing the overall cost.
Additional Components
Sometimes, replacing a boiler might require additional components such as new radiators, thermostats, or smart controls. These add-ons can enhance the efficiency of your heating system but will also add to the cost.
Typical Costs for Boiler Replacement
Here's a breakdown of the typical costs associated with boiler replacement:
Combi Boiler: £1,500 - £3,000
System Boiler: £2,000 - £4,000
Conventional Boiler: £2,500 - £5,000
These prices include the cost of the boiler itself and the installation charges. However, additional work required for upgrades or modifications can increase the total cost.
Central Heating Replacement Costs
Replacing the entire central heating system involves a broader scope of work and, consequently, higher costs. The typical cost for a full central heating replacement ranges from £4,000 to £6,000. This includes:
New boiler installation
Replacement of radiators
New pipework
Installation of heating controls and thermostats

Schlüter-Systems joins a host of top building design brands in London’s Material Lab
Tumblr media
Material Lab, in London’s West End, is a design resource and materials library and home to a comprehensive range of innovative, high-end brands which have been developed for the UK’s architectural community. The impressive two-storey showroom was founded in 2006 as an inspirational hub for designers, architects and developers where displays, presentations, workshops and partner events bring products, designs and technology to life. It is now firmly established and supported by leading brands in the surface coverings, bathroom, and building design industry generally.  Visitors are offered a wealth of information on different product portfolios – from tiles to worktops; wall coverings to flooring; and taps to showers.
One key partner of Material Lab is Schlüter-Systems. The worldwide company is the leading name in holistic system solutions for the function, protection and decoration of tile and stone, with many of the company’s 10,000 product lines finding applications in challenging conditions such as bathrooms and wetrooms.
Lee Rowland, Head of Sales for Schlüter, explains “Material Lab is an ideal partner for us as we are accessible to the architectural community in a much-visited, easy location in London. Designed for professionals, it means discerning visitors can access all the information and advice they may require, in an inspiring, friendly place.  We have chosen to display the products and schemes which have proven most popular for commercial projects so that the architect or designer can almost “build” their bathroom, wetroom, or complementary space, here.”
The displays highlight Schlüter’s expertise in providing intelligent, stylish solutions with the product ranges working together to create a waterproof, functional, long-lasting bathroom or wetroom. Examples on view include JOLLY tile trims in realistic, textured finishes, and SCHEINE, RENO and DECO trims and transitions in various metallic options. There is also the chance to see the popular electric underfloor heating system DITRA-HEAT, along with different thicknesses of the versatile KERDI-BOARD tileable, waterproof backerboards, and the handy storage option provided by the Schlüter SHELF portfolio.
Helpfully, visitors can take away samples of selected products; they can also be ordered from head office or Sample Library (www.samplelibrary.co.uk).  There are also sample key chains and ranges of informative literature available.
Lee concludes, “Schlüter-Systems is all about high-quality installations; Material Lab is the perfect place for professionals who want to understand how to get there and create the very best spaces in their projects.”

HOW TO SAVE WATER IN THE BATHROOM
FIRST, LOOK AT YOUR OVERALL SETUP
“Start at the beginning: your boiler and system set-up is key,” James Lentaigne says. “We all know those old houses where you have to leave the tap on for ages before the water is hot enough to use.
“A well-designed plumbing system with an energy-efficient boiler and/or good storage to keep water hot makes a massive difference,” he continues, “and can result in savings in water usage as well as energy.”
“Get leaks fixed immediately,” Sara Levy adds. Common culprits include dripping shower heads and basin taps. According to Water UK (which represents the UK water industry), a dripping tap wastes at least 5,500 litres of water a year.
Tumblr media
CHOOSE A DIFFERENT BATH
Showers typically use less water than baths: 62 litres for an average 8 minute shower vs 80 litres for a bath, according to research by Unilever.
Can’t bear to give up your relaxing soak? “Choose a shallower bath or one that gives you the option to install a lower overflow,” Adam Wollerton says. You can buy baths where the overflow has yet to be drilled.
Having a smaller bath is another option. “One of the most popular baths we offer is available in a 1580mm (rather than 1700mm) length, and has taller sides,” Adam says. “Shaving off 120mm saves approximately 10 litres of water per bath (the 1580mm-length bath has a 180 litre capacity; the 1700mm has a 190 litre capacity).”
Sara agrees. “There are so many new shapes out there, it may not be necessary to choose the largest bath for your room,” she says. “A clever designer will help to make the best use of the space.”
Consider, too, an acrylic bath that keeps water warmer for longer. “This will reduce the temptation to keep topping up with hot water,” Adam says.
In an existing bath, tweak your habits. “Only fill the bath as high as you need,” Sara says.
If you’re a shower person, the other option is to get rid of your bath altogether. But remember, some power showers consume more water than baths – investigate how much your chosen model uses.
 ADJUST YOUR BASIN
If you tend to fill up your basin for face washing or wet shaves, Adam recommends a smaller bowl. “It will fill quicker and use less water than a wider or larger basin,” he says. “Could you opt for a smaller basin with some worktop space around it for everyday lotions and potions?”
Do you have children who repeatedly leave the tap on, however many times you remind them? “Using a sensor tap on the sink will allow you to only use the water when you need it,” Sara says.
James adds, “Don’t forget a good plug or pop-up waste – this can help you to avoid water literally going down the drain.”
Tumblr media
FIT A WATER-SMART REGULATOR
Fitting your tap or shower with a regulator that restricts water flow can radically reduce your usage. “Every tap should have a restrictor fitted,” James says. “Options include aerators that blend air with water.” According to energy-saving advice portal The Green Age, a tap aerator can reduce the flow of water by up to 10 litres per minute.“Fittings that combine water and air give the same feeling and performance, but use less water overall,” Adam says. “They give a softness to water, and clients often love the powdered effect they offer to their shower experience. I had one client install three in their home.”
Tumblr media
MINIMISE YOUR TOILET FLUSH
“It’s estimated that an average household uses nearly 9 gallons [40 litres] of water from flushing alone every day,” Sara says.
Smart toilet flushes are an easy way to reduce water usage. “Most brands factor in a dual flush system nowadays,” Adam says. “Typically, they offer a full and half flush, or approximate 3 litres or 4.5 to 6 litres with each flush.
Tumblr media
SAVE WATER IN THE SHOWER
“Using a thermostatic shower control will allow you to keep your chosen temperature on the shower, instead of wasting water trying to find the correct temperature each time,” Sara says.
Different shower heads use different amounts of water. If you’re buying a new shower, James recommends looking at the manual for information about flow rates and performance.
To find out if you could cut your existing water consumption, consumer organisation Which? suggests testing how long it takes your current shower to fill a 2 litre container: less than 12 seconds is equal to 10 litres per minute, and means an eco water-saving shower head could help.
Tumblr media
CHANGE YOUR LIFESTYLE
Saving water doesn’t always have to mean new bathroom fixtures. Simple measures such as turning off the tap while you brush your teeth can make a big difference over a year. “Try turning water off while you apply shampoo or shower gel,” Sara adds.
