Mount Shasta
There’s a well-known legend that says that somewhere deep beneath Northern California’s 14,179-foot-tall Mount Shasta is a complex of tunnels and a hidden city called Telos, the ancient “City of Light” for the Lemurians. They were the residents of the mythical lost continent of Lemuria, which met its demise under the waves of the Pacific (or the Indian Ocean, depending on who you ask) thousands of years ago. Lemurians believed to have survived the catastrophe are said to have settled in Telos, and over the years their offspring have been sporadically reported wandering around the area: seven-feet-tall, with long flowy hair, often clad in sandals and white robes.
Lemurians aren’t the only unusual figures said to inhabit this stand-alone stratovolcano, easily seen from Interstate 5, about 60 miles south of the Oregon border. Mount Shasta is believed to be a home base for the Lizard People, too, reptilian humanoids that also reside underground. The mountain is a hotbed of UFO sightings, one of the most recent of which occurred in February 2020. (It was a saucer-shaped lenticular cloud.) In fact, the mountain is associated with so many otherworldly, paranormal, and mythical beings—in addition to long-established Native American traditions—that it’s almost like a who’s who of metaphysics. It has attracted a legion of followers over the years, including “Poet of the Sierras” Joaquin Miller and naturalist John Muir, as well as fringe religious organizations such as the Ascended Masters, who believe that they’re enlightened beings existing in higher dimensions. What is it about this mountain in particular that inspires so much belief?
“There’s a lot about Mount Shasta, and volcanoes in general, that are difficult to explain,” says Andrew Calvert, scientist-in-charge at the California Volcano Observatory, “and when you’re having difficulty explaining something, you try and understand it.” Calvert has studied Shasta’s eruptive history since 2001. “It’s such a complicated and rich history,” he says, “and Shasta itself is also very visually powerful. These qualities build on each other to make it a profound place for a lot of people—geologists, spirituality seekers … even San Francisco tech folks, and hunters and gatherers from 10,000 years ago. It’s one that can have a really strong effect on your psyche.”
Mount Shasta is one of the most prominent of all the Cascade volcanoes, an arc that runs from southwestern British Columbia to Northern California, and includes Washington’s Mount Rainier and Oregon’s Mount Hood, among others. “It’s so steep and so tall that it even creates its own weather,” says Calvert. This includes the spaceship-looking lenticular clouds that tend to form around the mountain, created, he says, “by a humid air mass that hits the volcano, and then has to go up a little bit to cool off.” But they only contribute to Shasta’s supernatural allure, along with its ice-clad peak, steaming fumaroles, and shape-shifting surface that’s being constantly broken down and rebuilt by ice, water, wind, and debris. The mountain also sits about 15 miles or so west of the standard arc line of the other Cascade volcanoes—a move that took place about 700,000 years ago. “We don’t really have a good explanation for why it moved out there,” Calvert says, a statement that seems to make Mount Shasta’s mysteries appear more otherworldly by the minute.
The Mount Shasta spiritual legacy goes far deeper than contemporary myths and sightings. For Native Americans in particular, the mountain is a sacred place, straddling the territories of the Shasta, Wintu, Achumawi, Atsugewi, and Modoc tribes, which can date their lineages back to a time when eruptions actually took place there. (Its last eruption, says Calvert, was a little over 3,000 years ago.)
There’s Something About Mount Shasta

KREL TARRON/reader
fem reader
scenario (500 words)
takes place during the series of 3BELOW
——— ˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗ ———
The first thing I thought when Eli came to me in a frenzy, flailing around and rambling about aliens, was that I befriended an insane person.
To be fair, Eli had a track record of all things "conspiracy" and finding oddities occurring in Arcadia.
I just wasn't a fan, per-say.
I just might have believed in ghosts for a bit. And, on the occasional am, when I was half asleep, I could swear I would see UFO's.
But I was sleep deprived.
"(Y/n), you HAVE to believe me! I saw in their window, and they were aliens. Aliens!" He rambled, practically begging me to believe him.
"...Krel and Aja aren't aliens. Sure... maybe they can be a bit odd. But I find that endearing in a boring town like this." I shrugged, turning away and heading to the bus for our trip.
As I walked, I could hear Eli grumble nervously behind me.
We were heading to the planetarium as sort of a field trip. Considering Arcadia was a small town with low income, this was our equivalent to going to a different state.
I was seated alone (thankfully). The two seat to the side of me was inhabited by Krel and Aja.
Could they really be aliens? That would be crazy, right?
I mean... they are twins, but look completely different.
They can say some pretty odd things as well.
...and do.
I sighed, linking my headphones and starting to play music.
Once we arrived, we all gathered around the steps of the front entrance, listening to Ms. Janeth.
"Do aliens exist, or are we alone in the universe?" She announced with a smile, "I'll let you decide. Your projects for the school science fair are due next week. Explore and find inspiration!"
We began walking inside. Most students went with their friends and walked around, looking at interesting displays.
Then she groans, "...because if I have to grade one more baking soda volcano, I'll explode!"
I stood at the edge of the planetary display, watching it spin. I always thought museums were great.
Arcadia doesn't have the best options, but once, I went out of town on vacation, and went to a huge museum. It was amazing!
While I was watching the display, I noticed Krel and Aja walking around. If they were aliens, I would know. Right?
Did he always have those glasses?
Krel grins as he looks at me, "No, I did not! But they suit me well, no?"
I stare at him in slight shock.
Mind reading... that's an alien thing right?
He began walking away with a proud smile, Aja at his side.
You look cute in them.
He stopped walking, turning around with a surprised expression.
I just smile, and walk away.
Okay, so I can confirm: Krel was reading my mind.
Weird? Yes.
Concerning? Maybe a little...
Alien?...
...No?
bonus;
As I continued walking around, my mind kept going back to that girl.
Did she mean what she said? Or was she just playing with me?
She wasn’t freaked out like all the others… is that a good or a bad thing?
I’m not sure why I’m so obsessed with it.
With her.
Kleb.

Since you mentioned L liking Pokémon in the Matsuda Interview, what do you think L's Pokémon team would look like if he were a trainer/gym leader? Also if the Death Note cast were gym leaders, what types do you think they would specialize in? I'm tempted to say L is Dark, Light is Dragon (Kira is Poison?), Misa is Fairy, and Matsuda is Normal, but idk.
-🎲
Pokémon! ╾ Task Force
🎲 anon... ily/p. this took a while cause I wanted to draw them with their Pokémon. but good news is..
INCLUDES ART!!
★━━─・‥…━━━☆
L 🍰
TYPE SPECIALISATION
hate to say it because I want to give him one of my favourite types (dark, dragon, water, ice) but he's a fairy type. he's a fairy type all the way. he loves how pink and fluffy and sweet-like they are.
MAIN: Fairy
SUPPLEMENTAL: Psychic, Grass, Ghost
TEAM
Gardevoir: Psychic / Fairy
Gardevoir form strong bonds with their Trainer and will do anything to protect them. L appreciates the support. In addition, Psychic types are generally known for their intelligence, and Gardevoir is a strong Pokémon. A good choice all around!
Mimikyu: Ghost / Fairy
It's kind of like an adorable toy! L is oddly fond of such things because they remind him of childhood, which he never really had. Also it likes the dark and wears a mask to hide from the world, so that's basically like L pftahhahjhahassja
Milcery: Fairy
This is a floating blob of cream! Can you imagine a more delicious wonderful Pokémon?! Milcery also brings good luck to bakeries, which L likes because he wants the places he likes to prosper. In addition, it evolves into Alcremie, which gives its Trainer sweets! L can't wait.
Shiinotic: Grass / Fairy
This Pokémon send people to sleep, which L is very grateful for as it helps override his insomnia. It also makes defeating other Pokémon easy, and I do think L tends to pick the simplest path when he isn't interested in a course - I don't think he's super interested in Pokémon tournaments.
Swirlix: Fairy
L wanted to catch this Pokémon because it smells and looks like cotton candy. Unfortunately, all it does is make him hungry, and Swirlix itself also likes eating lots of sweets... However, L forms strong bonds with all his Pokémon so he'd just buy more sweets lmao.
Clefairy: Fairy
Clefairy is the epitome of a Fairy type! Pink, cute and caring. It's also popular but hard to find, which makes L pretty proud of himself. But the real reason he caught it was because he was sick and thought it was an escaped Chansey...
LIGHT 🖋️
TYPE SPECIALISATION
I thought Light's was easy, then I started thinking and I was tossing up between adding Dragon, Dark or Psychic. HAHSJHAHA your Poison note was my favourite, it suits. Some of these Pokémon are more Light-y, some are more Kira-y.
MAIN: Fire
SUPPLEMENTAL: Poison, Steel, Fighting
TEAM
Salazzle: Poison / Fire
This uses poisonous gas to manipulate people into being its slaves... Replace poisonous gas with poisonous words and that sounds familiar./hj Plus, Light probably liked the look in its eyes HDHAHDHDH
Arcanine: Fire
A strong, loyal and all around awesome fire Pokémon. Arcanine is also often used by Officer Jenny as a police dog, and I think Light would subconsciously align himself with the law by doing this, because he sees himself as law and justice.
Combusken: Fire / Fighting
Light got this guy as a Torchic, for his starter Pokémon, and is actually fond of it. It's his family. I think he'd really like chickens for some reason, maybe cause of the chicken and egg thing... I dunno...
Iron Moth: Fire / Poison
Even though it's more space and UFO-ish, there's something about it matching records in an old book and observing humanity that reminds me of a Shinigami. So I thought this Pokémon would be oddly fitting for Light, thought I can't imagine how he caught it considering “no records exist of this species being caught”...
Heatran: Fire / Steel
IT LIVES IN A VOLCANO!! Light was definitely super into volcanoes as a kid so he'd probably make it his personal mission to catch and befriend one of these guys. They're magma and can climb on ceilings and walls.. pretty cool hehe
Sneasler: Fighting / Poison
It's kind of like an evil-looking Meowth, huh? It's poisonous and strong and likes to live alone. Light can respect that (but at the same time went to capture one... not very Loner of him). He would also like mountains.
I got lazy and only did flats, but there's a small art thing for the other characters at the end
MISA 💝
TYPE SPECIALISATION
Fairy would have worked, but I think Misa would go with the basic cute Pokémon, plus a couple of dark ones. like in canon: she's not really goth (I believe that's the style) but sometimes dresses like it.
MAIN: Normal
SUPPLEMENTAL: Electric, Flying, Dark
TEAM
Furret: Normal
I think one of Misa's main criteria when catching a Pokémon is cuteness. They have Pokémon fashion shows, iirc, which would be Misa's thing. Anyway, this is a cute, nimble Pokémon and it can move through small spaces, which is surprisingly useful for Misa.
Oricorio (Pom-Pom): Electric / Flying
I have an Oricorio card and it's surprisingly strong!! It looks cute and has like 60HP but can deal 100 damage, which seems Misa-ish. She also loves that this type's feathers match her hair. And the bird thing matches with Light's chicken thing.
Eevee: Normal
do I need to explain this...
brain says yes I do. she's a little bit basic when it comes to liking cute Pokémon, so Eevee was a must! She hopes it evolves into a Sylveon, but it's probably gonna become a Jolteon lmao
Ditto: Normal
It's cute and versatile! Though it has a really bad sense of humour and laughs at lots of things.. I think Misa would default to having it as a Stufful. I was going to give her a Stufful actually but it was the wrong type djjdjf.
Morpeko: Electric / Dark
Misa thinks this thing is adorable and appreciates that it has a darker side. She also finds it super cute when it's eating, which is lucky, considering its reaction to hunger. That said, she kind of loves how troublesome it is when it's hungry...
Bombirdier: Flying / Dark
Misa thinks this is a very elegant Pokémon, and caught it expecting refinement. However, it just drops things everywhere... Things that make loud noises... Misa jumps every time.
MATSUDA 🦆
TYPE SPECIALISATION
His was a little funny to figure out. Oddly enough, I really don't think he'd be normal, so I went full nature version. Water and earth and all. Honestly he probably catches Pokémon regardless of type, just tends to hang out in these types' habitats more.
MAIN: Water
SUPPLEMENTAL: Grass, Rock, Bug
TEAM:
Wartortle: Water
Because of course he picked Squirtle for his starter Pokémon (affectionately). Matsu loves this fella and appreciates its much-needed wisdom. Apparently Wartortle's very old. I don't know how Pokémon time works, but I feel like Matsu would love old things, animals, people...
Swadloon: Bug / Grass
This is in my opinion one of the funniest and cutest looking Pokémon ever and something about it was so Matsuda-ish. He would also love that it helps the ecosystem, and though he felt bad about taming it he really wanted to be friends!!
Magikarp: Water
Matsuda caught one of these guys because L always said they reminded him of Matsuda. He's a little sad that L sees him as “the most pathetic useless Pokémon ever” but at least it's pretty darn cute and has lots of potential (evolution wise), right?
Omanyte: Rock / Water
It's been restored from an ancient species, and Matsuda probably has an interest in archaeology or something so he finds that cool. Plus, they're being released into the wild too much and becoming a problem. He thinks they're kinda like cute squids.
Shuckle: Bug / Rock
SHUCKLE!!! There's something inexplicable about this Pokémon. All it really does is protect itself and hide under a rock, but there's a je ne sais quoi about it. Matsuda is a big fan. It also likes berries and looks a little like a dinosaur.
Lombre: Water / Grass
A nocturnal Pokémon that sleeps on river grass. To be honest, Matsuda probably caught it by accident (if anyone can do that, Matsuda can) one day and just shrugged, said "new friend!" and moved right on.
RIE 🥀
mwahaha or something.
TYPE SPECIALISATION
I kept changing her types because the first batch the Pokémon didn't fit and the second batch were too similar to L and Misa. I kept Psychic and Dragon the whole way through, which is why the first four only have one type.
MAIN: Psychic
SUPPLEMENTAL: Dragon, Ice, Bug
TEAM
Dragonair: Dragon
An angelic and peaceful Pokémon that can change the weather! Plus, Dragonair seems very majestic and beautiful. Rie caught it as a Dratini and this is the Pokémon that has been with her the longest, apart from her starter Pokémon of course.
Espeon: Psychic
Rie loves Espeon a lot and was surprised when her Eevee didn't evolve to Sylveon! She probably prefers Espeon for its intelligence and ability to predict other Pokémon. Rie calls it a Poké-Pyschologist even though it deduces actions by physical matters, not psychological.
Goodra: Dragon
It loves the rain and tbh who doesn't? Rie is more the type to sit inside with a warm drink and look out the windows than stand in the rain, though. She also finds Goodra cute and calm, though it does go to 100% when angry... Huh, kinda Rie-ish.
Alakazam: Psychic
Interesting conversations are something Rie needs in her life, or she gets incredibly bored. So of course a Pokémon that remembers everything is on her wavelength. Plus, it looks like it knows magic tricks. (It doesn't. It's close to hitting Rie the next time she asks how to cheat better at cards.)
Snom: Ice / Bug
I discovered this Pokémon while scrolling through the Pokédex for this project and it's my favourite now, so I had to give it to my favourite OC. Rie loves the snow and ice, more than the rain, and this cute little blue porcupine-y thing is “just so perfect.”
Rabsca: Bug / Psychic
She doesn't talk about it because it makes working in a male-dominated field harder, but Rie really wants to be a mother. And canonically, this Pokémon is always caring for an infant! Rie also likes how colourful (poisonous even) and dignified it looks.
(bonus) Kyurem: Dragon / Ice
It's a bonus because Rie wouldn't have it on her team, but if she were to catch a legendary it'd be this guy. Fits with her types and is waiting for a Trainer to fill it with “truth and ideals,” according to the official Pokédex.

Choose a character! If your oc is a Natural phenomena, what would they be and why? ✨️🤭🤭
Thank you Jojo!!! For this one, I'm choosing Minato, Shiki and Hiyori hehehe I'm trying to recall my science knowledge, just relying on goo//gle search and these are the closest ones we can find 💪✨
Minato: Fire Storm
He's like a combination of multiple intense wildfires (hatred, jealousy/envy) that it somehow creates its own wind system, becoming like a storm. It won't stop until everything has been consumed and he has achieved whatever he desires. But once that happens, only the ashes of the things he burned would remain for him.
Shiki: Lenticular Clouds
Especially the ones that cover the top of mountains and volcanoes. These are stationary clouds that are often situated in the stratosphere. He may arrogantly prop himself up as someone above the others, the same way this type of cloud may look otherworldly due to its saucer shape (people may even think it's a UFO!) and sometimes even having bright colors at its edges. But the truth is that it's a very common cloud, the same way he's just human with weaknesses (and gap moe) like everyone else.
Hiyori: Sun Halo
A sun halo is often connected to divinity, enlightenment and good fortune. It's also a very rare phenomena, that happens only when there are ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere. Just like with his role in the family as the dedicated healer, as well as the seemingly hard time Oniyanagi had trying to find someone like him. And though the sun is warm, he also has this cold ice in his blunt words. Without these "ice crystals" won't he just be a regular sun? They also signify a shift in your life, which is what happened to Hiyori himself. But he's not exactly sure if this is a good or bad shift.
#khr#khre#khr oc#oc#oc ask#mikan minato#yukimura shiki#tenma hiyori#queue i can't put into words#researching about this is kind of fun#ALSO TIL SUN HALOS ARE CALLED SUNDOGS????#we're not sure where to start so we started with phenomena related to their guardian roles

pov: you're tom blyth
word count: 1198 letting everyone know this was a small thing i wrote for my english tutor! the prompt was to write about switching bodies with someone and how it would affect you and i decided to write about being in tom blyths body. but theres a twist. this pov is from someone who has NO IDEA about tbosas. i hope you enjoy this!! this is just a goofy thing i wrote <33 warning: its a lil bit cringy...kinda idk JUST READ IT. lmk if you want part two (might have spelling errors n shit sorry!!) Sunlight met my closed eyes. I could feel the warmth of the dim beam that crawled it ways out of the blinds. I slowly rised from the quilt that wrapped around my body all night. My eyes were still drowsy, still forcing my eyelids to shut, as I stretched. I clambered out of bed, still feeling lethargic. I rubbed my eyes, my hands more coarser than before. The shape of my face felt weird, it didn’t feel like it was my face. As I fully opened my eyes, I look down to my hands. Long and pale, clearly weren’t the complexion it should be. The nails weren’t painted mars black like before. I put my hands to my cold cheeks. I could feel a short stubble growing. ‘What the hell?’ I mutter to myself. I then I realise something else. This wasn’t my room. I started walking toward a small door that likely led to a bathroom. I was right. When I turned on the heat bulb, the amount of luminosity blinded me for a second. But after my eyes adjusted to the lighting, the first thing I saw was my reflection. Or, it was the body I lived in. I was my celebrity crush, Tom Blyth. My piercing blue orbs widened in bewilderment. I stumbled back and I bumped into the glass door that led to the shower. I slapped myself so I could wake up, I thought it was a bad dream. But the burning sensation that was left after the slap felt real. It felt like I experienced the slapping in real time, not in a dream. Why is this happening to me? I pondered, as I gazed back at the body I was now using as a vessel for my soul. ‘Tom?’ A young female vocalized from outside. I didn't realize that she called out to me until she faintly knocked on the door. I scrambled quickly out of the bathroom and opened the door. As I swung open the dainty white door, I saw one of my most favorite actresses of all time. ‘RACHEL???’ I exclaim, my eyes tried not to tear up as I absorbed her angelic presence. ‘Hi…Tom…’ She said, eyebrows knitted together in confusion. I forgot I was now Tom Blyth. ‘Did you forget to set your alarm to 4am again? We have to shoot scenes.’ Rachel continued, her tone serious. I nodded aggressively, and Rachel looked as if she witnessed a UFO fly over a wheat field. ‘Are you ok Tom?’ Rachel muttered. ‘Uhhh- nah I’m all good!’ I said, with a sheepish smile. Her eyes glare in dread as I showcased my pearly whites in an uncanny manner. I exited the caravan, and hopped in whatever direction that felt right. It was of course the opposite direction of where we set up for the shooting.
…
“TOM!” Francis scowled. I twisted my head towards Francis, the director of the movie I'm in, The Ballad of The Songbirds and Snakes. My lips curled in irritation, my annoyance now at the highest level it could possibly be. Before I thought about what I was about to say, the words spewed out like a volcano that vomited lava. `I AM NOT TOM OH MY DAYS BRO!’ I blurt out, my eyebrows knitted tightly in vexation. The whole room went silent. I was gagged, I once again realized that I am not in my own body, I am in Tom Blyths. “Uhm, well, I mean uhhh…what’s good France? I said, doing that awkward grin I was doing the whole day. “Please don’t call me France.” Francis said, his tone flooded with disappointment. “It’s your scene, Tom,” he continued. He awkwardly waddled off to his director's chair. Everyone gives me the same look of concern that I have been receiving for the past two hours. I slowly struted towards my scene partner, I tried to look confident. Josh Andres, my scene partner, awkwardly smiled at me. As I stood in front of the camera, he put his hand on my shoulder. “Tom, are you good?”. I look at Josh, with a stringy smile embroidered on my face. “I’m all good, I’m fine. No need to worry.” I responded. Josh looked at me confused, but then the lights were set. Cameras started rolled. A loud ‘ACTION!’ was heard from the producer. We’re filming already?! I whispered to myself. I didn’t read or scan through the script, and I didn’t even know much about my role other than his name being Cornelius or something. “Coriolanus!’ Josh said, his face now in bewilderment. I stood awkwardly as I stared into his deep brown eyes which were now filled with desperation. He wanted me to say something. “Yes sir, I am Coral Anus” I say, trying to sound as sane as possible. Obviously, my improv did not go well. “CUT!” Francis said. Josh’s face twisted into distress. “Tom, we have been practicing this script for months, and you reply to my line with CORAL ANUS?” He splurts. “Yeah isn’t that my character?” I say, still smiling. “NO! YOUR PLAY CORIOLANUS!! WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?” He continues. His face now in fear, as if saw his bestfriend die right infront of his eyes. “Ok, Tom, please tell me you are joking.” Francis exclaimed. Francis then adverted his gaze towards the crew. “Somebody pass Tom the script, he’s forgotten the lines.” … As the cloudy night sky loomed over us, so did frustration. Josh shoved the muffin into his mouth. The curls that had once been done with the most finest moose, were now frizzy and tangled. Rachel sat motionless, staring outside the window. The air felt silent in small caravan. All the crew members were asleep, and it was just us three awake. I stretch my arms out, the fabric of my baggy pajamas letting me move freely.
“97 takes…” Josh said. His eyes had bags, dropping down while his eyebrows looked like they were magnets trying to connect. “97 GOD DAMN TAKES JUST TO FILM A SMALL INTERACTION BETWEEN ME AND HIM!!” He exclaimed, scrunching the muffin wrapper that laid in his huge palms. Rachel looked at me like she had just seen a deer in front of her headlights. “Are you really Tom? What’s going on?” Rachel spoke, as she bit through her apple. I couldn't detect whether she was being sarcastic or not. “Well..my pet-” I looked back down into Tom’s phone, scrolling through his photos, until I see a parrot. Me, or Tom was holding the green parakeet with a huge smile. “My parrot died.” I mutter, as I tried to conceive fake tears in my eyes.
I shove the picture in Josh’s face, covering my eyes and making crying noises.”Tom, that is my parrot you’re holding. Remember when you came to my house? You held Barnaby?” Josh responded, as his irritation turned into fear. I stared back, the room now felt awkward with the pin drop silence. “Cig break guys!” I exclaim, and I slowly slither out of the room. “TOM YOU DON’T SMOKE!”
The first four hours of being in his body has certainly been a terrifying experience for everyone.

Bigfoot at Mt. Shasta
This video claims Bigfoot (and UFOs and other paranormal things) are at Mt. Shasta in California. What is the story about Bigfoot and Mt. Shasta?
North American forests, particularly in the Pacific Northwest, are home to the cryptid known as Bigfoot. This big, hairy, bipedal humanoid has long captivated people and generated conjecture. The area surrounding Mount Shasta in Northern California is one of the most closely linked to reports of bigfoot sightings. This magnificent, snow-capped volcano serves as a great setting for tales of enigmatic animals because it has long been a central figure in many myths and legends. Mount Shasta's solitary wildness and commanding majesty enhance stories of bigfoot sightings. The mountain's surrounding deep forests, untamed areas, and rough terrain provide the ideal habitat for this supposedly elusive and solitary monster. Over the years, numerous accounts of hikers, campers, and residents reporting having seen or heard anything strange in the area have surfaced. These tales frequently depict a massive, ape-like figure, odd noises, or mysterious footprints, all of which add to Bigfoot's ongoing mystery. The association between Mount Shasta and Bigfoot is not limited to contemporary occurrences. The oral traditions of the Klamath, Modoc, and Shasta indigenous tribes in the area have long contained tales of huge, enigmatic creatures. These stories frequently describe "hairy men" who live in the highlands and forests, occasionally giving them magical abilities or spiritual importance. These cultures' cultural histories and natural worldviews intersect with Bigfoot mythology. Mount Shasta is known for being a place of extreme strangeness and paranormal activity, in addition to local mythology. Numerous reports of UFO sightings, abductions, and otherworldly occurrences enhance the mountain's aura of mystery. For many fans, the combination of these factors makes a strong argument for Bigfoot's existence in the area. Researchers and cryptozoologists often travel to Mount Shasta in hopes of finding proof or having an encounter that may help solve the Bigfoot puzzle. Nevertheless, skeptics contend that more commonplace causes could account for the sightings and claims. They argue that misidentifications, hoaxes, and people's natural narrative tendencies greatly aid the Bigfoot myth. People may mistake the weird noises and illusions produced by the untamed and frequently hazardous landscape surrounding Mount Shasta for signals of a massive, unidentified creature. Despite these logical justifications, Bigfoot's appeal endures. People's natural attraction to the unknown and the possibility of unanswered questions about the natural world sustains Bigfoot's attraction. The persistent fascination with Bigfoot and Mount Shasta is indicative of a broader human yearning for the unknown and the unexplained. Bigfoot sightings and stories continue to pique people's curiosity, regardless of whether they believe the creature to be a genuine, undiscovered species or to represent the untamed and wild parts of nature. A pivotal location in the ongoing Bigfoot saga, Mount Shasta's spectacular beauty, folklore, and rich history pull equal numbers of believers and skeptics to its slopes in pursuit of answers.

S.C.A.R.S.

N64 Magazine Score: 79%
SCARS stands for Super Computer Animal Racing Simulator. While it does seem like a random assortment of words to spell a “cool” word, the game is built around the concept of a computer simulation (the tracks load in a wireframe before loading textures) and the cars are all based on animals. It’s a silly concept, but it captures what the game is about: fun.
As a kart-like racing game, SCARS has really good handling, drifting is simple to pull off, letting you slide around corners with ease. Driving in SCARS is a ton of fun, as is zipping around all of the levels.
The levels themselves have some neat ideas, such as an island with a volcano, a level that takes place during UFOs attacking in the 1950s and an underwater level. Due to the “simulation” nature, they were free with picking odd and wonderful designs.
The weapons are quite interesting, too. You can send weapons forwards or backwards, and hold down the fire button to apply extra power. They mainly hinder people for a short time, however the cars can jump to dodge them. The icons are also quite clear, so you can plan what to collect from the upcoming set to get ahead or to defend your position.
This is a game I vaguely saw in N64 magazine and haven’t heard people talked about, so I was pleasantly surprised about how much I enjoyed it. It’s good, clean fun.
SCARS is a game with a dual personality. On the one hand it’s a brash, arrogant power, the coolest guy in town, cruising around in a convertible Marc with the stereo pumping, gold medallions gleaming in the son. On the other hand, if you look a little closer, you’ll see that those gold medallions are just chocolate coins, tied on with tinsel. Listen harder, and beneath the thumping beats of Fatboy Slim and the Propellerheads, you might just be able to make out the faint strains of Barbie Girl.
- Martin Kitts, N64 Magazine #23
Remake or remaster?
A remaster – with some enhancements and widescreen support – would be great.
