STAR WARS MASTERLIST THE GREAT FIGHT MASTERLIST
Emotion filled Miri as she watched Tech fit the comm device around Omega’s little arm, and she thought back to her own Master. Had he felt this way when she gained new accomplishments, earned new devices and gadgets in her training, proven herself in risky situations? Had he thought of her the way she thought of Omega?
“It’s not an exact fit,” Tech informed, but it seemed the girl did not care. Omega was a child so easily brought to wonder, and every day it felt like she found something to be excited about. Times were dark in the galaxy, and Miri imagined the Marauder would be even darker if they had not had the light that was Omega.
“Technically it was Crosshairs, but,” he paused for only a millisecond, eyes looking away as he spoke. “He doesn’t appear to need it.” The slight sting of it all was lost on her, though, and they were able to move through the moment seamlessly. Sometimes Crosshair got them caught up and they found themselves stuck, even for just a bit, in a moment of hurt and betrayal, anger and blame, unable to pick and unable to move on.
“Echo, what is your position? Over,” she spoke into the commlink built into the vambrace, similar to the one Miri wore. Her words echoed through everyone's comms as they were all in the same part of the ship, though Omega still held the device up to her ear to hear better. Miri chuckled as she watched on, but Echo clearing his throat caused her grin to drop. Ever so serious, he kept them in line most of the time, a stark contrast from his ARC Trooper days with a certain twin of his. But when he stepped forward she knew what was to come before he even began speaking.
“It’s not a toy, Omega,” he looked down at her with a soft yet serious face, hoping his words would get through to her. Intelligent as she was, she was still a child, and this was proven when she grinned up at him, pressed the button on the comm, and spoke into it once again.
“Copy that,” she answered, just as seriously. Miri laughed, out loud this time, and deflected the look Echo shot at her as Tech reached forward for her arm again, pressing buttons on the vambrace. “Why are we going to Ord Mantell? I thought the plan was to lay low?”
Hunter turned from the computer to face her, the chair squeaking with the movement, and all eyes were on him. In the soft glow of the dash lights, he looked handsome as ever, but it seemed as if an opportunity for privacy was not in the cards. She could only do what she’d always done, admire from afar. “Not while a bounty hunter’s after you. We need to find out why.”
“I remembered an informant there named Cid that the Jedi used to work with,” Echo explained. “I asked Miri about it and she said it was as good a plan as any.”
“And you trust him?” Wrecker questioned, Gonky raised over his head as he lifted him repeatedly. Miri, having kept mostly quiet the whole time, covered her grin with her hand. The assumptions they’d already made of Cid were quite wrong, though she did not feel like letting them in on that. She had to fight off her smile when she realized the question was directed at her.
She shrugged, an air of indifference about her. “To say the least,” she settled on, though it was not much of an answer.
“The Jedi trusted him,” Echo offered, holding his hands up as if it was any better.
“The Jedi who are all dead?” Tech questioned as he rose to his full height, not realizing the punch behind his words until they were already out in the open. Miri, silent once again, looked at him with a blank face as his eyes flicked over to her. “Apologies. That was…a bit blunt, I see now.”
While the ache reverberated throughout her body, she did not let it show. Her voice, steady under the gazes of her entire crew, left her in a calm delivery. She would not let the truth get one over on her, however difficult it would be. “If you have a better option, Tech, I’m sure we would all like to hear it.” He did not answer, for he knew he did not, so she continued. “Can’t hurt to check it out, then, can it?”
“She has a point,” came echoing from everyone’s comms, and all eyes turned to the girl with the device held up to her mouth once again. “Right,” she lowered it. “Not a toy.”
-: ✧
Ord Mantell was nothing special. The part of town where Cid was wasn’t anything special either, but Omega found herself impressed once again. As they made their way through the streets, their group made less intimidating by the sight of a woman and child, Hunter looked down at the girl. “Remember the rules?” His voice was distorted as it came through the modulator in his helmet, but his expectation still rang clear.
“Don’t wander off, keep my eyes and ears on my surroundings, and trust no one but my squad,” she listed, the rules engraved in her mind with how many times Hunter made her repeat them.
“And if you get into trouble?” Miri questioned, her own eyes flicking down to the girl.
“Use my comm and give my location,” she answered effortlessly, much to Miri’s satisfaction.
Cid’s bar came into view soon after, and Echo took the lead. “This is the place,” he mused, looking up at the light up sign. She took a step back, letting everyone in before her, hoping her plan would be as amusing as she had imagined. Again, their lives would be much darker if they didn’t find the light wherever they could, so she felt no shame in the little trick she had planned.
“Gotta run back to the ship real quick,” she answered when Hunter questioned her. This moment felt uncannily similar to Kaller, when she sent him off before Order 66 and she went missing, and he didn’t accept her answer for that very reason.
“It can’t wait? We should stay together,” he argued, one foot on the step before him, but helmet still facing her.
“Hunter, I’ll be fine. I just need to grab something,” she assured, smiling at him in a way she was beginning to figure out disarmed him. A sweet smile, one she only gave him, and it was a surefire way to get him to bend.
It had worked. He entered the bar and left her there in the alley, though she did not head for the ship. She stayed, waiting, giving them a chance to get down the narrow corridor and take in their surroundings before she entered herself. Her steps were light and she remained close to the wall, trying to reduce her presence down to zero as she peeked around the corner, overhearing them faintly discuss the whereabouts of the mysterious Cid.
In the corner of the dark room, she saw Cid leaned over wiping something down. Cid wasn’t too far from the boys, and with their helmets removed their voices were clearer and carried just a bit further; if she could hear them, then Cid would too. Miri’s grin grew ever so slightly. Really, it had been far too long since she’d felt this much giddy joy and for a moment thought of it as sad, but quickly dismissed it. She was doing her best, that’s all that mattered.
“Which one of them is Cid?” Hunter questioned, looking out at the open space before him.
When Echo shrugged his shoulders, she almost broke her cover. He didn’t know left from right when it came to this, yet he was so quick to take the lead. What a weirdo, she thought to herself as her face settled on a warm grin. “I couldn’t tell ya. I only heard about Cid. Never actually met him.”
She wasn’t able to see their faces, but she could imagine the look they were giving their brother. “Miri knows,” Echo argued, and started to look around. “Where is she?”
“She’s getting something from the ship, but I don’t think we should waste any time,” Hunter answered before stepping forward to the nearest person. “We’re looking for Cid. You know him?”
Unknowingly, Hunter had spoken to the subject of his question, and Miri shook her head. When the Trandoshan turned, she looked up at him in faux confusion.
“Cid, huh?” She slowly rose to her full height, shrugging before shaking her head. “Nope. Doesn’t ring a bell.”
“What about them?” He looked over at the patrons of the bar, fighting over their game of dejarik.
“Was I not clear?” Cid’s voice had begun to take on that familiar bite, and Miri knew she would need to cut it short soon. “You’re in the wrong place. So unless you’re here to spend some money, get lost.” She barely looked at him before walking away, shaking her head ever so slightly.
“Great plan, Echo,” Wrecker griped, even though Miri had approved of it.
“I’m certain this is Cid’s,” Echo defended. “The Jedi came here during the war, and Miri led us to this place.”
In the midst of everything, Omega had occupied herself with tinkering with things here and there, but soon her attention shifted to the Trandoshan behind the bar. Her brothers were talking as if Cid was a man fleeing, but something had evidently told her otherwise. Miri watched as Omega made her way to the bar, looking up at Cid from the other side, and she began to round the corner. She had had her fun, but now she wanted to see what the girl was going to say.
Four highly trained clone troopers, and the little girl who’d never left Kamino figured it out? With how clever Omega was proving herself to be, Miri would believe it.
One thing about Ciddarin Scaleback was that she was not only rough around the edges, but all the way through too. She wasn’t particularly nice, and she was a businesswoman if nothing else. Cutthroat, greedy, and somewhat unpleasant to be around, she never switched it up on anyone. Not even children. “What’s your deal, tiny?”
“You’re Cid.” Omega, unphased by her attitude, stated it simply. This, while raising some questions in Miri’s mind, earned her a rare compliment.
Cid turned to her, crossing her arms and losing the bite. “You’re sharper than your friends over there.”
With this, Miri decided to make herself known. She stepped into the room, walking slowly towards everyone when Cid caught sight of her. Surprise, another rarity from the woman, covered her face for a second as she watched her move closer. “Well, well, look who it is,” she called out, gaining the attention of the rest of the squad. “Never thought I’d see you here again, sunshine, I’ll be honest.”
Miri, grinning as she stepped up beside Omega, shrugged. “Can’t blame you there.” She gracefully slid into a seat, settling in as she removed her hat. “Alas, I persist.”
“You’re Cid?” Hunter questioned, face screwed up in confusion and frustration. Miri couldn’t help but chuckle, shaking her head.
-: ✧
“I had a good thing going with the Jedi,” Cid explained as she led them into her office, and in her head Miri knew it was the better part of her business. “They valued my insights, and now that they’re all dead—well, most of them are dead—the demand for my services has declined.” She crossed her arms, looking at them from across a holoboard. “Thanks to this new Empire.”
“Times have changed…for all of us,” Hunter stated, quite severe compared to the lack of care from Cid.
“No kidding,” she countered. “I’ve never had clone deserters come to me before. And never did I expect a surviving Jedi to show up here, either.” Hearing the words spoken out loud almost made Miri flinch, because it was so unsafe to even exist anymore. She could never not be who she was, but she would need to hide it away as much as possible.
“Yes, well, we separated due to a fundamental difference in ideology,” Tech explained, adjusting his goggles.
“That’s cute, you thinking I care,” Cid taunted, an unsurprising response to Miri. She knew Cid wasn’t one to care for the fluff, the extra; she wanted the rundown, the target, and the price. “Cut to it and tell me what you want.”
Hunter looked to Miri, and she nodded her head once. Then he looked to Echo, and Echo stepped forward to place his helmet down and plug his scomplink into the base. “By all means, make yourself at home,” Cid remarked sarcastically, and Miri rolled her eyes.
“We encountered this woman on Pantora,” Hunter explained when the holo of the bounty hunter popped up. Miri’s eyes burned holes into what would be the back of her head. “Do you know who she is?”
“No,” Cid instantly replied. “But I know a bounty hunter when I see one.” Miri sighed; Cid knew a lot of people, and knew a lot of things about a lot of people, and she didn’t even know who this was. She didn’t seem new to this gig, far too skilled to be a rookie or a lowlife, yet her name wasn’t reaching around as far as one would think.
Sneaky. Dangerous.
“Can you find who hired her?” Echo pushed, trying to get something out of her.
Her next response didn’t surprise Miri one bit. “That depends on what you lot do for me,” she grinned in her own way, somehow still unsettling. She exchanged glances with Hunter, then the rest of the boys, communicating silently before Cid’s voice interrupted them. “Are you fresh outta the tube?” She shot out, and Miri almost laughed. “Got Force sickness?” She mocked, and her smile dropped. “You pull a job for me, and I get the information you want.”
She began to walk away, leaving no room for discussion. “That’s how this mercenary thing works,” she waved, and Echo looked as if she’d struck him.
“Mercenary?” He questioned, looking after her with brows drawn tightly.
“Not too quick, are ya?” Cid remarked, not stopping her pace. “Clearly the kid’s the brains of your operation.”
Miri sighed, stepping forward. “What kind of jobs?”
“A rescue,” Cid answered, sitting down. “You’re good at those, aren’t ya?” She pointed a claw at Miri, another sarcastic jab slipped in before she continued on. “There's a nice bounty on a kid named Muchi. My sources say she was taken by Zygerrian slavers who are holed up on the other side of the planet. Bring me the kid and I’ll get you your intel.”
“Well, who collects the bounty?” Wrecker questioned, speaking for the first time since they’d entered the office.
“Oh, look. It talks,” Cid shot out, and Miri scoffed. This was something that she remembered bothering her immensely every time she had to be around her, she was relentless with the negativity. It was tolerable at first but got old very quickly, yet there was hardly a break with her.
“We split the bounty 70-30, my favor. Take it or leave it.”
“Grab a kid from a few Zygerrians?” Wrecker laughed, nudging Hunter before turning around, leading Omega out. “We could do that in our sleep.”
“Looks like we have a deal,” Cid declared, and Hunter and Miri shared one more glance before she threw the holodrive at the Jedi. “Details of the bounty are on that. Don’t screw it up.”
Everyone that was left turned to walk away, but Miri stopped at the door. She turned to face Cid one last time, face serious as she spoke. “I trust this means you’ll keep quiet of my participation in your business?” Worded in a way where she was asking without asking, for she needed to know.
“Helps to have a hand in every pocket, sunshine,” she replied, leaning back in her seat. “Keeping you on the streets means getting my business back up, sound familiar?”
Miri didn’t respond. Instead she turned and walked through the doorway and didn’t stop. It did sound familiar. Back then it didn’t seem the same as it did now, almost as if she was seeing it for what it was for the first time. A weight she readily let go of as Hunter came into view, waiting for her so they could board the ship together.
-: ✧
“According to Cid’s intel, the Zygerrian slave traders are hiding in the ruins of Old Ord Mantell city,” Tech’s words filled the silence of the ship as Omega flitted past him into the seat that Wrecker had left. Her eyes were on the trooper doll they had all gone through so much for, but her question was cast into the open for them all to hear. “What’s a slave trader?”
Sometimes it saddened Miri to think of all the things the girl had yet to learn due to her containment on Kamino. Younglings didn’t leave Coruscant, but they were exposed to knowledge every single day. It was imperative to their futures as Jedi to know how things worked, how people worked, and that was something Omega had been robbed of. She could only hope to do right by her, to help her become the greatest she could be.
“Someone who buys and sells people for credits,” Tech answered simply, though his words caused Omega to look up.
“People can be sold?” She sat up straighter, face scrunched up.
“Against their will,” Miri answered her. “They’re people taken captive, treated like property,” she explained, thinking of little Ani on Tatooine working his days away for but a moment before she pushed it aside.
“That…” Omega started, clutching the doll to her chest, “doesn’t seem right.”
“It’s not, and we have the means to do something about it. That’s why we won’t let this happen to that kid; because it’s wrong, and we can stop it. Omega,” she paused, gesturing for the girl to come closer. She slid out of her seat and stopped right before the woman. “I need you to understand how important it is to recognize when you are able to help someone in need. I would never want you to put yourself in danger, I mean that, but sometimes you will have the tools to do something and you will need to know when to use them,” she explained, and Omega’s eyes never left hers. To be truthful, she had no idea what she was doing. But perhaps her Master didn’t either, and it was with that that she gave the girl a gentle smile. “We have the tools to make a difference today, and that’s what we’re going to do.”
“As well as earn a decent amount of credits once the job is complete,” Tech added, and Miri almost rolled her eyes. Instead she sighed, for her teachable moment had ended, and Echo’s mood had dipped.
“Yeah, that too,” he sulked, turning to walk away.
“Don’t worry Muchi,” Omega exclaimed lowly, face as serious as ever. “We’ll rescue you.” The resolve in her voice matched the expression on her face, and Miri felt that her words had gotten through as intended. She shared a look with Hunter, and there was something in his eyes that she couldn’t quite pinpoint. She could if she really tried, if she pried and peeked with the Force, but she did not want to do that to him. She had enough respect for everyone in the Batch to not meddle where she was not meant to, so she resigned to not knowing why he was looking at her that way, to giving him a funny look and shaking her head before rising from her seat.
Upon landing, a quick scan of the terrain was done before a group of captives was spotted. Only one child was present and Tech made note of that, leading to the conclusion that that must be little Muchi. “I’m clocking two dozen hostiles,” Tech continued. “Multiple entry points with minor fortification.”
Miri knew their base would be weak. The Empire had only just formed and done away with outlawing slavery, so slavers were only just gaining their footing. Plus, the city was run down and in terrible condition, leaving them poorly protected and susceptible to infiltration by anyone with a little skill. Clone Force 99, unfortunately for the Zygerrians, possessed more than a little skill.
“Simple smash and grab like that time on Kuat,” Wrecker remarked. “Easy enough.”
“I’m in!” Omega exclaimed, beginning to rise from her crouched position. “What are we waiting for?”
Hunter grabbed her by the shoulder, stopping her as the others walked away. Miri stayed, knowing he would need some backup on this. She knew he was going to say no, and while she wanted Omega to accompany them on missions eventually, she found herself agreeing. Complicated, this was; much more than she was hoping for.
“You get back to the ship.” Hunter left no room for negotiation, and while he was bossy from time to time, Miri agreed with the decision. “That’s an order,” he stated, one finger pointed at her chest firmly; a classic Hunter move. She almost chuckled, but Omega’s quiet—albeit not quiet enough—huff of defiance caught the man’s attention just as he was walking away. In a fashion akin to a Master and Padawan, a father and child, he whirled around expectantly.
“Yes, sir,” she answered, begrudging but still respectful.
Deciding to just follow up on his order, because Omega was not a soldier, Miri leaned forward and placed a gentle hand on her shoulder. “For now, I think Hunter’s right. Just until we can get you some more training, okay?” Omega nodded, but that was the only answer she got before she began to walk away. But something was nagging, pulling her to a full stop. On second thought…
When had that ever worked on her or Anakin?
She turned around, pointing her own finger at the girl. “But you heard what Hunter said, stay on the ship,” she warned, using a tone just a step under stern. “Do not leave that ship unless absolutely necessary.”
“Yes, ma’am,” she replied, the same way as before. In the corner of her eye, Miri could see Omega cross her arms as she made her way to the ship, but she had still listened and that was a win in her book.
The terrain was nothing difficult for the squad to maneuver, quickly and quietly making their way closer to the heart of the base. When they stopped, Tech crouched down and turned on his scanner before Miri turned to the others. “Echo, you’re the eyes in the sky. Wrecker, you and Tech draw the Zygerrian forces out. Hunter and I will grab the kid.”
When Echo had departed and the three others made it to their first stop, Hunter pressed his comm button. “Echo, sitrep,” he questioned lowly. Behind them, Miri made a little place for her lightsaber to sit. If they were captured, they would find it on her. If they found their ship, they would find it there. This way, it was hidden away from prodding eyes and ill intentions, waiting until its Master called upon it.
“Two roving patrols on speeders,” he replied. “First guard checkpoint dead ahead.” For a moment, Miri felt something. However, she felt a lot of things, so she didn’t question it until Echo’s voice came through the comms once again. “Hang on, I think I’ve got company.”
“Well, take care of it,” Hunter responded. “Quietly,” he emphasized, but any chance of covertness flew out the window when Echo’s groan rang loudly through their comms, and was followed by his body falling from his post up above. His body thudded against a fallen building, landing roughly and remaining unmoving.
“Watch out!” She hollered, moving quickly as something else came in from above. A creature reptilian in appearance, with wings and a long tail, flung Wrecker into some more broken foundations, body thudding on impact as well. They each pulled their blasters, but the shots did little damage. Miri knew her saber would have made things easier, would have done more to fend off this creature until it flew away, but in the end knew it was for the better.
Even though they were captured. Even though they were stripped of their helmets and belongings. Even though they could now do nothing to stop them from finding their ship. It was for the better.
Wrecker’s fingers pried at the collar around his neck, swearing it was getting looser, but Miri knew it was no use. Still, his actions were met with repercussions, his body shocked with just the push of a button. He groaned before slumping over, and Echo was quick to come to his defense.
“Do that one more time and you’ll be—” his threat was cut off by his own collar shocking him.
“Save your energy,” Tech advised a slumped over Echo. “We’re going to need it.”
Miri’s eyes flicked back and forth as they all bantered, but she had nothing to add. They needed to get out of this, get to Omega, get Muchi back to her family; her thoughts were going a mile a minute as she ran through every mission she could remember right then for an answer to their problems.
“We need to signal Omega before their scouts find her,” Hunter interjected.
“Except our comms are over there with our weapons,” Echo countered, looking over at where all of their things were piled together. Indeed, all of their resources were much too far out of reach, a tauntingly impressive trophy for their captors to admire.
Once again, Miri felt something, though she had now grown familiar with this one. She turned as best she could, eyes squinted as she looked into the sky and saw, lo and behold, Omega herself. “We won’t need ‘em,” she assured, and everyone followed her line of sight as discreetly as possible.
Omega waved at them, using hand signals to let them know she was coming to get them, but Miri and Hunter’s heads shook in unison. A cautionary glance thrown over his shoulder revealed that the leader of this operation was on his way, and Hunter signaled for her to make herself scarce. Thankfully, she listened.
“Look at what we have here,” the Zygerrian mused as he made his way closer, hands clasped behind his back. “Five new slaves to add to my collection. Strong ones, too; you should fetch a nice price,” he added before his sights were set in Miri. “This one, especially.”
“The Republic outlawed slavery,” Echo interjected fiercely, face screwed up in a way that was so familiar yet so his own. If his plan was to get the eyes off Miri, it had worked; the Zygerrian with the scarred face and the milky eye turned on the trooper immediately.
“We are not in the Republic anymore, skug,” he insulted, advancing on him. Miri did not like that Echo had taken the heat off her by putting himself on the burner, but when the man walked away and she saw Echo’s eyes meet his sister’s she knew it would play to their advantage.
“You’re lucky we don’t have any of our gear,” he threatened boldly, much louder than before. “Because this would go very differently for you.” Miri could practically see the pieces fit together in Omega’s mind as Echo’s words reached her and she put whatever plan she had formed into action. Miri’s eyes were wide as her little legs carried her from her hiding spot before she slid out of view, and she realized that this had to be the Padawan Learner experience.
And when Omega accidentally kicked a big rock down and nearly blew her cover, she could only nod her head. Yep, this was it. The slavers all turned to look at the place where the loud thud had come from, dust slowly rising in the air, and Miri took the opportunity to share a look with Wrecker, nodding just once.
Almost immediately his leg shot out and kicked a small boulder directly into one of the Zygerrians, knocking his feet right out from under him. The immediate retaliation was to pull out the electrified whips Zygerrians so fondly preferred, and Miri and Wrecker held their hands up to shield their faces from any lashes. Though none landed, and she knew it was most likely their warning, so whatever happened next needed to count.
“We can do with one less slave,” the Zygerrian threatened, accent thick as he sneered at them. “Maybe I’ll feed you to my pet.” His speech that followed fell on deaf ears when it came to the Bad Batch, for they had other concerns. Omega was on the move again, and it would be foolish to follow her movements for the risk of blowing her cover, so they had no choice but to look away.
That’s how they missed her getting snatched up by one of the guards. He came forward, dropping her before the leader. “I found her sneaking around the cage.”
“I wasn’t sneaking,” Omega corrected, that devient streak showing itself once again. “I was unlocking,” she held up part of the locking mechanism on the large cage before it began rumbling violently. Whatever was in there wanted out, and it was beginning to figure out that the door was open.
“Secure the cage,” the leader ordered, panic exuding from them all as they rushed forward. It was no use, for the doors to the cage burst open.
The rancor that emerged, adolescent in size, roared at her newfound freedom before being shot with the energy bolts from the Zygerrians bows. They did nothing in terms of damage, and it was met with a large boulder thrown at them in retaliation. “Well, not the distraction I thought we’d get,” Miri mused as she held her still cuffed hands up.
“That’s their problem,” Wrecker countered before bracing himself against the foundation which they were all chained to before pulling. “We’re getting outta here!” The chains snapped and they made quick work of helping the other captives while they let the Zygerrians deal with the rancor.
“It’s okay Muchi,” Omega comforted the child they had all assumed was their target, but the adult Falleen beside them confirmed otherwise. This child was not who they had been sent to rescue, but rather the rancor surrounded by their captors. It was, in fact, their problem.
At the edge of the sanction they were all held captive in, CF99 looked at the others around them. With nowhere to go and no other options, it made the most sense to follow the people who looked like they knew what they were doing; and besides, the clones had become a symbol of hope to people in need during the war. When clone troopers arrived, liberation almost always followed.
“What about them?”
“Omega and I will get them to safety. You find Muchi,” Echo answered, finality in his words.
“Hey,” Miri called to Omega as the parties began to separate, holding a hand out to the side. “Remember what I said on the ship,” she stated firmly, not looking long enough to see if Omega responded in any way before turning and closing her eyes. As her saber flew into her open palm and she ran off after the others, the girl behind her holding the hand of another child in need swelled with bravery.
When they located their target, Wrecker remarked that it looked like she was doing just fine on her own. And he appeared to be right, she was still so much stronger than them even being so young. She overpowered them all and when she was left with nothing else, turned to charge at them. “Woah now,” Miri remarked as they readied themselves for what was to come, but Muchi stopped short when a distant screech could be heard. In the sky and heading right for them was the leader of this whole operation on the back of his flying beast, and it was clear that he had every intention to take them out as well.
The group separated to avoid the impact but Hunter hadn’t gone far enough and was knocked over when the creature’s long tail whipped against his helmet before it jumped to Wrecker, sending him flying with a headbutt. Muchi was the next target, Miri and Tech having scattered and hid in the rubble surrounding them, but the rancor had seemingly met its match this time. Overthrown and cornered, it was the vulnerable whines of the child they were sent to rescue that launched the former Jedi into action; coming in hot from the far right, Miri’s footsteps were light as she bounded towards the Zygerrian and hurled herself at him as he swung the whip above his head.
Muchi took the opportunity the woman had presented her and fled, followed by the winged creature, but now Miri was back on the burner once again, this time alone in the pot with the milky eyed Zygerrian. He groaned as he lay on the dirt below, frustration rearing its ugly head as he reached for his weapon once again. “You’re going to pay for this, skug,” he sneered, brandishing the whip to back up his threat.
The others ran to her aid, but she held a hand out to stop them. “I’ll handle this one. Go get Muchi,” she ordered, now reaching for the matching vibroblade she had with Hunter. Truth be told, she was hesitant to use her lightsaber; whoever walked away from a fight with her could use that information as leverage with the Empire and she could not afford that. They had not yet learned of her survival nor of her reunion with her squad, but all it would take was time before she landed on their radar once again and that made weighing the options too difficult to think about at the moment.
Her saber felt heavy on her hip, like a dirty secret to be hidden away. She didn’t like it.
And as she charged at the Zygerrian and the whip wrapped around the arm holding her blade, shocking her as she groaned in pain, she really didn’t like it. Yes, enough was enough; the weight of the options had been skewed by the newfound threat and it took insurmountable strength for her other hand to reach across her body and unclip the hilt. When she did, she locked eyes with the man above her, teeth grit and knees digging into the ground, and shocked him by grabbing the whip and yanking on it. Before he could react, a flash of orange illuminated the small space between them and the whip was severed from the hilt, sparking in his hands as the inner workings fried.
He retaliated by throwing a punch, but it was slow due to his confusion, and Miri caught it before headbutting him, not caring for the pain it always caused her. Her foot landed in the middle of his chest as he stumbled backwards, and she kicked as hard as she could to send him flying. His body thudded as he landed on the ground and stirred up clouds of dirt, and before he could recover Miri had appeared before him again.
With a white knuckled grip on his shirt, she pulled him close and stared into his eyes. “You hit your head and do not remember what happened here,” she whispered, words dripping in faux comfort as she willed the Force to bend his mind. He repeated the words back to her as if in a trance, and she landed one last hit to knock him out; the only thing she could think of to cover her tracks short of killing him and that was a line she did not want to become blurred from overuse.
When she found the rest of her squad, Echo and Omega were just pulling up on a speeder. She took her place beside Hunter, as per usual, watching the scene before them. “How long’s he been at it?”
“Too long,” Tech answered. “He’s losing his touch.” They all turned to watch Wrecker and Muchi tiredly swing their arms at one another, groaning and roaring respectively as they grew weaker and weaker before slumping onto the ground simultaneously.
-: ✧
When they arrived at Cid’s, Muchi was in a much better mood and had taken to Omega quite well. In the alley by the entrance they all stood, the girl atop the rancor, as who she assumed to be the client for this job came out and greeted Muchi fondly, speaking Huttese. Miri recognized him to be in close association with Jabba the Hutt, and while she didn’t know exactly how the Hutts would operate with the Empire, she wanted to keep news of her away from them. She drifted to the back of the group, shielding her face with the wide brim of her hat.
As they departed, Miri gravitated to the front of their group once again while Cid addressed them. “I gotta say fellas, I wasn’t sure you could pull this job off.”
“You could’ve told us we were going after a rancor,” Echo leaned forward to criticize, popping up from behind the Jedi.
“Hmm,” Cid mused. “Must’ve slipped my mind,” she shrugged her shoulders, not caring for what had happened during the mission or what they had to do. She pointed a claw at Miri, and then at Hunter. “You, sunshine and dark and broody. My office.”
In the darkness of Cid’s space, the image of the woman that went after Omega was bright and glaring. Fennec Shand, she was called. A name Miri didn’t recall, and the Trandoshan confirmed why. “She’s new to the scene but has already proven herself to be cunning and ruthless.”
“Who hired her?” She questioned, voice low as she stared up at the holo.
“Unknown,” Cid answered, planting a seed of frustration in the two of them, and her further explanation did little to help. “With someone like her nipping at your heels, you’re going to need two things: friends and money.”
The pair shared a look before their eyes landed on Cid once again. “Mostly money,” she added gravely.
“Well, we’re not swimming in either at the moment,” Hunter chimed in from behind her, so close she could feel his presence.
“I guess it’s a good thing you met me then, isn’t it? And that I like you, sunshine,” she answered, turning off the holo and grabbing the case of credits with their cut of the money. “There’s more where that came from…if you’re looking for work.”
The offer sat heavy in their ears as they, once again, shared a look. “We’ll think about it,” Miri drawled, hesitation clear in her words though Cid didn’t comment on it as they walked away. However, before they could fully leave the office she started speaking again. “It’s interesting.”
“A bounty hunter of Fennec’s caliber being after you,” she continued and it was those words that stopped them in their tracks. “I mean, I know the Jedi’s a hot shot, but…you fellas must be pretty valuable too.” In unison, whether intentional or not, Hunter and Miri turned to look at her with sharp eyes.
“Don’t worry,” Cid assured, but they could hear the tease in her voice. The threat. “I’m good with secrets.”

third of december ; mirio x reader
a/n -- it’s the third of december u kno what that means! pain. also yes this is playing into the playboy mirio trope, i love it too much to ever let it die. his character might be a lil ooc i’m sorry i’m trying my best 😞
summary -- mirio has a new pretty thing on his arm every week; it’s never you.
word count -- 1.2k
genre -- angst
warnings -- unrequited love
I still remember, the third of December, me in your sweater, you said it looked better on me than it did you.
“No, Y/N, take it -- please? I don’t want you to be cold.” Mirio’s eyes are pleading, bright blue irises staring into yours, brows downturned. He holds out his sweater to you, red polyester worn and faded but still the most comforting thing to you in the moment as you reluctantly nod, shimmying yourself into it. It smelled like the sun and was just as warm.
Then he’s grinning at you, toothy and wide, slinging his arm around your shoulder and pulling you into his side, “All warm now, right?” Once you nod he looks down at you, ruffling your hair, “Told you I’d be fine -- you know, you can keep it. It looks better on you anyway.” Your breath gets caught in your throat and you swear there’s no oxygen left in the room; did he mean that? You don’t have much time to think about the flirtatious tone he always has with you, because he’s looking at you, taking in your blush, and he gives off the radiance of a thousand suns, heat so strong you think you might burn.
Oh, how nothing had ever looked more beautiful.
Watch as she stands with her holding your hand, put your arm 'round her shoulder, now I'm getting colder.
You don’t keep the sweater, even though you wanted to. You felt too bad, but once you see him in the halls the next week you kinda wish you had.
His new fling of the week (Month? Sometimes it could be a month) has her hand intertwined with his, her stature dwarfed by the strong boy next to her. They look perfect, too perfect, and something in your stomach twists -- whether it’s because you know she’ll be replaced soon or because it’s not you, you’re not quite sure.
You have to go to the bathroom once you realize she’s wearing the sweater you had given him back not two days ago, bidding a very worried Nejire farewell. Then you’re hunched over the toilet, holding your stomach and crying into the material of your uniform because how could you be so stupid to think his compliments meant anything? He gave those to everyone.
Why would you ever kiss me? I'm not even half as pretty.
Class 3-A is throwing a party at their dorms, and everyone’s invited. Business class, hero course, support, gen ed -- you name it, whoever’s ready to have fun and probably end up with a massive hangover is there.
You really didn’t want to go, but Nejire told both you and Tamaki that she “was not going to go alone, so if you two don’t go I won’t go -- and you don’t want me to be sad, right? C’mon, you both need it!”.
So here you were, slumped against the kitchen counter and nursing a soda while you tried desperately to get away from the blaring music and various sweaty bodies. It’s not like you hated parties, but after the Mirio situation, you had just wanted to be alone.
Speak of the devil. He walks into the kitchen with a solo cup in hand, grinning ear to ear with -- is that his tie? Yeah, that’s his tie around his head. He sees your solemn demeanor and his face falls. You move to leave the kitchen, because it’s only you two and by God you were not going to be alone with him right now.
Mirio catches you before you can, though, arm slung around your waist. He pulls you into him just like he did on December 3rd, eyes just as worried as when he thought you’d freeze, except this time you can vaguely smell alcohol on his breath and he’s much warmer than he was before, because now his touch makes you feel like you’re on fire.
“What’s wrong? Someone so pretty shouldn’t look so sad…” His words are genuine, and there’s an inkling he’s a bit more sober than you initially thought, and you hate it, you hate it so much.
“Nothing, Miri, i’m fine -- go back to the party, yeah? Go back to your girlfriend, she probably misses you. Don’t let me ruin it for you,” Your voice betrays you, and it makes him pull you even closer.
“Don’t have a girlfriend, whaddya mean? We stopped talking a few days ago.” He shakes his head down at you, blond brows knitted together in confusion -- his cheeks are flushed, but he still looks at you with eyes as deep as the ocean. He tilts your chin up, your face now dangerously close to his, and you can feel his breath ghost across those perfect, perfect lips.
“Push me off if you don’t want this. Please.”
You want to push him off, you want to tell him to leave and to stop playing with your heart like you’re not his best friend, that he can’t keep flirting with you and then dating some other girl like you were just a distraction.
But you don’t, and you melt into him instead, letting him press his lips against yours in a surprisingly gentle way. You press harder, wanting his warmth to consume you until you’re molten. Right now he’s the sun and you’re Icarus and you can’t be bothered to think about how your fall from grace isn’t too far away.
In this moment, he’s all that matters.
She's got you mesmerized, while I die.
You two don’t talk about the party. Instead you let him flirt with you and tease you for the next couple of weeks, the two of you always suspiciously close. Nejire points it out and you two shrug, saying that’s how you always are. Which isn’t wrong -- on the rare weeks he isn’t falling for some new thing you’re who he attaches to, what he gravitates towards. And everytime you entertain it, not thinking about how it’d hurt you in the end.
A couple more days, though, and he’s cuddled up on the common room couch with one of your classmates when you and Tamaki come back from getting food. You nearly drop the bag in your hand but instead sigh, feeling that familiar twist in your gut, especially when Mirio waves you two over to come talk to him and his recent endeavor.
You know he doesn’t mean to do this, he never would -- he’s too kind, too selfless, and you know he doesn’t realize that what he’s doing hurts you so much. He doesn’t realize that seeing him with anyone but you makes your heart feel like it’s pulling apart, that hot tears prick at your eyes and that’s why you excuse yourself to go to your room. This is how it’s always been, and probably how it’ll always be.
Somehow, that realization makes it worse.
I wish I were Heather.
Mirio falls much too quick and much too fast, and you know he can’t be contained. He’s the sun, radiant and warm and so, so comforting. You get it, you really do -- who wouldn’t want to be with him?
But why is it that he falls for everyone else, that you’re only his backup when he’s bored? Why is it that you’ll only ever be his best friend who he flirts with and dotes on when he has no one else?
What do they have that you never did?
You’re not sure you want to know.

•in a pink dress
•with your hair curled
•and flowers on your heals
•and you were struggling to hold back the tears

•after lunch, they all took their time in hugging you, Miri, and Yerim, really tightly
•even Jisung and Renjun, who hated that shit

•45 minutes late (he should have at least called something)
•he was an hour late (jaemin...)
•why?
•you called Yerim, who had been Jeno’s date, and asked her if she had seen Jaemin
•unfortunately, she had
•he was at the prom

•Yerim told you Miri was on her way to pick you up
•but you didn’t even want to go at that point

•and there was a straight walk from jaemin to you
•or better yet, from you to Jaemin
•because it was you who moved
•Linger by The Cranberries was playing in the background
•this was the first song you had ever shown Jaemin
•the first song you and Jaemin danced to, in your bedroom
•the first song you two officially made out to, in his car, overlooking your shared spot above the city
•it was you and Jaemins song
•and you thought maybe
•maybe Jaemin would apologize
•make an excuse

•so emotionless
•as he looked at you
•inside Jaemins head
•there was a lot going on
•before he left Jeno’s house towards the prom
•he drank
•a lot
•he definitely didn’t want to remember this night
•so he was feeling a lil drunk
•he locked eyes with all the people that expected him to go through with this bet
•all the people (his friends) that expected him not to
•and the one girl he’s ever loved
•she looked so lost
•and Jaemin wanted nothing more than to break away from Cynthias tight grip on his arm, and hug you, and kiss you, and whisper that he was sorry sorry sorry so sorry
•but he was afraid
•Na Jaemin was a coward
•and he was once more, afraid of losing his reputation
•and suddenly,
•it all threw itself at him
•the harsh world he was brought into,
•the pressure he was under
•it all came and swallowed him whole
•and you were his insecurities new target
•all he saw was red
•”Jaemin? What’s going on?”
•he laughs, but it doesn’t sound sincere. It’s cold, lifeless
•”wow, I always knew you were stupid, But I didn’t think you were that idiotic”
•your blood ran cold
•from the corner of your eye, you can see Jisung turn and look the other way, and Miri and Yerim looking on in absolute horror. Yerim let her arms almost fall from Jeno’s embrace, but he held her tightly, afraid of losing her.
•”what?” You looked so lost, like a little lamb that lost their mother in the woods
•if you were the lamb, Jaemin was the wolf
•”I mean, honestly, did you really think I could like a girl like you?”
•you don’t say anything, too much in shock
•”you are a nobody, and you never will be. I know you thought dating someone like me would suddenly make people like you, but new flash y/n, no one does. I can’t believe I had to fucking date you for 7 months. All you do is whine and complain, you’re so fucking annoying. And no wonder I had to start talking to you after mark tutored you; what with you being so fucking stupid. I think it’s so funny how much you tried, when no one really cared. No one cares about ugly girls that put on ugly dresses to try and be more beautiful when nothing will fix the way you are. No one will ever love you y/n, I certainly didn’t-“
•Jeno had heard enough.
•”Jaemin I think she gets it” he puts a hand on Jaemins chest, but Jaemin just pushes it off, and take a step towards you. He really never knew when to stop
•”what, does that make you cry? Knowing that everytime I said I loved you, I was lying? I never loved you y/n. Never. How could anyone ever love a useless bitch like yourself-“
•”Jaemin, stop, look at the poor girl” hyuck finally stepped in and started whispering in Jaemins ear
•it’s true, you were sobbing so much that your pretty makeup was ruined, and you couldn’t even lift your eyes off the floor.
•”oh, why do you care? You act like you weren’t in on the bet this whole time. All of us were. We all knew this was going to happen, because none of us like you y/n. You know, we used to sit there and laugh about how gullible you were. I’m surprised you even have friends. We certainly weren’t your friends. I bet not even Yerim or Miri really like you. They’re actually cool; beautiful. You’re like the ugly duckling that tags along bc you have no where else to turn. Ugly inside and out.”
•”what bet.”
•honestly, everyone was surprised that you talked.
•Jaemin certainly was. He really didn’t want to say anything more, but he couldn’t stop. It’s like he didn’t have an off switch.
•he just laughed at your face
•”remember last night? At my house? I took your puney little virginity. I got bet 8 months ago that I couldn’t take your virginity the night before prom, and then dump your sorry ass in front of everyone. Well look everyone! I win!” He laughed out, all of his stupid jock friends laughing with him.
•he was telling the truth, he took your virginity last night.
•he insisted it was because he wanted you two to be closer on prom night
•you really did feel stupid
•and disgusting
•like you needed a shower
•”and honestly, the worst part was that you weren’t even good. I mean it’d be okay if you were pretty, but look at you!”
•and finally, As Jaemins final act,
•he slipped the anniversary present you gave him off of his left wrist,
•and threw it at your face
•it hit you square in the chest,
•and slid down to floor
•you stayed and looked at it for abt 3 seconds
•but honestly
•you had heard , and seen, enough.
•you didn’t even look at Jaemin, you just turned and ran out of the gym
•everyone started cheering, all the popular people laughing and whooping
•Jaemin just stood there, staring at your retreating figure
•his heart was beating out of his chest
•but someone just handed him a cup full of spiked punch, and he downed it, and pulled Cynthia in for a kiss
•trying to block out the sound of his heartbreaking into millions of pieces
•Yerim and Miri ran out after you, and Jeno and mark followed, while Renjun took Chenle and Jisung - who were sobbing at this point - and dragged them out
•and hyuck just disgustingly stood and stared at Jaemin
•and he pulled Jaemin into him
•and said
•”you’re right, Jaemin. You won. Congrats”
•before shaking his head and running out after everyone
•outside, you were trying S U P E R hard not to have a panic attack
•it was a lie, all of it
•you should have known
•you should have seen that getting involved with the 7 most popular boys in school would ruin you
•Jaemin was right, you were so so stupid
•you heard footsteps behind you, and when you saw all of your friends (minus Jaemin, obviously), you couldn’t help but cry more
•Yerim and Miri slowly walked towards you, and you pulled them both in for a hug, sobbing onto their shoulders
•from behind them, you saw Jeno reach out for you, and softly call your name
•you sucked in a deep breathe
•they knew
•”you knew.”
•the only one that wasn’t crying at this point was renjun, but he looked damn near tears.
•”I’m not going to lie to you y/n, yeah we did-“
•”that’s contradictory. You have been lying to me for 8 months.”
•you didn’t even sound mad, just broken.
•which was honestly worse
•you just shook your head at them, and started walking towards Miri’s car, hoping she could take you home.
•”Jeno.”
•Yerim sounded betrayed as she whispered her boyfriends name
•”how could you?”
•”did you all just see us as idiots?” Miri chimed in
•no one said anything.
•like idiots
•Miri shook her head, and if looks could kill, 6/7 of the dreamies would be killed on the spot.
•”don’t you ever come near us again.” Was the last thing she said, before wrapping her hands around Yerim, and pulling her towards her car.
•Jaemin chose the P E R F E C T time to come out
•the events went as such:
•newly dumped Jaemin walks outside
•newly dumped Jeno locks eyes with new dumped Jaemin
•newly dumped Jeno sees red
•new dumped Jaemin gets a broken nose
•5/7 dreamies retreat
•mark drives Jaemin home
•Jaemin sits on his porch for three hours, not crying, but thinking about everything that happened that night
•Jaemin finally calms down enough to realize wtf happened
•Jaemin immediately wants to die

ok im curious about how ur OCs feel about party members i consider less likeable :P Eirn how do you feel about pierce and broonmark? Bestian how do u feel about corso?
Eirnhaya Illte, former Empire’s Wrath, on: Lieutenant Pierce, Imperial Special Operations:
Eirn frowns to herself as she chews on the question. ‘I… never saw eye-to-eye with him. Or- him, with me. He- wanted to fight. Enjoyed it.’ She winces guiltily, before adding, ‘I mean- the adrenaline rush, I- I get that. That’s not….’
She pauses, frowning to herself for a long moment as she tries to organise her thoughts. ‘He wasn’t- isn’t- an idealist. He didn’t care about the war - it was an excuse to fight.’
‘But,’ she sighs, ‘He knew his way around the ship’s ordnance better than anyone. He always knew what tools to use for the job. He was- useful,’ she finishes, wincing at the admission. ‘And… I think he enjoyed the freedom I had from the Imperial bureaucracy. We could hit enemy targets without having to wait for permission from Moffs and Darths.’
She pauses again, before adding, ‘I don’t think either of us would have chosen his assignment. But I guess we were… useful to each other, for a while.’
-
On Broonmark:
‘I think,’ Eirn starts, slowly, ‘I always admired Broonmark. He knew what he was,’ she adds, ‘who he was, and he- relished in it. He followed me because he respected me- that’s what he said, anyway, but- I think he would have left, if he hadn’t. He didn’t take orders, or suffer fools.’
She pauses, before adding, ‘I guess he was… very Sith, like that. I think… I envied that, too. He was- unchained,’ she finishes, her choice of words quite deliberate. ‘He was free.’
There’s another long pause, before she adds, ‘It was- what I was trying to explain to Jaesa, when I had her train with him. Except- looking back,’ she sighs, ‘She already knew that. I just- couldn’t see it.’
She chews on that for a moment, before changing direction entirely: ‘I think that- he would have left, eventually, even without Zakuul. He was- a lot like the Lieutenant, in a way. He enjoyed to fight - not just the hyalasha, but- the violence of it. The challenge of it. He stuck around because I found him fights. Worthy opponents. If I’d stopped doing that….’
She trails off, shrugging. ‘Maybe he’d have left. Maybe he’d have- really been like a Sith, and tried to kill me for it. I envied him a bit, but… I don’t think I ever trusted him.’
-
Bestian Myrric, proprieter of Port Nowhere, on: Corso Riggs
Bestian leans back in his chair, laughing to himself at the question. ‘Corso Riggs. Now there’s a name I haven’t heard in a while. Not a bad kid. Strangely naive for a vet. I always got the feeling he would have been happiest on one of those farm planets, you know? Dantooine, somewhere like that. Wide open fields and village fairs and all that rural idyll crap.’
‘Fair play to the guy, he helped me out in a tough spot. Hard to be a spacer when you’re grounded, you know? And without him, I wouldn’t have…’ he pauses, gesturing around him to his private offices in Nowhere. ‘But between you and me?’
He smirks a little, before adding, ‘I never met anyone so square outside of Imp customs. Guy worked for a gun runner, but got squeamish at the first hint of danger. And then there was Miri. Contact of mine, thumbs her nose at the Imps a lot. Bumped into each other on Narsh, and we spent a few hours talking shop in a cantina. Farmer boy is scandalised that a twi woman runs on the wrong side of the tracks. Starts talking about how she deserves better and- well, you know how it goes. Long story short, that’s why you won’t find him around here.’
‘Last I heard, he was off doing some patriotic shit for the Republic. Good for him. Maybe he’ll get that farm he wants, some day. Might even get some sense knocked into him. Stranger things have happened.’

Title: A Dragon’s Magic Chapter 11 Pairing: Kacchako (this chapter is mostly Miritama) Rating: M Word Count: 5,835 Summary: Uraraka Ochako has always believed in dragons, though she was constantly told they were long since extinct. Now an adult and professional mage, she’s ready to help her parents as a healer for their village. The last thing she expects is for her beliefs to become a reality, but when a dragon attacks her village, she learns there’s more to magic than she ever could’ve realized. Read on AO3 Thanks to @its-love-u-asshole for reading this over.
"Neji! W-wait up!"
"You're too slow Miri!" Nejire dashed through the forest, while Mirio continued to call out for her. He was, admittedly, slower than her. Someday he hoped to be faster and stronger. Ready to face all sort of evil with his magic, go on grand adventures and see the world! As a young boy, he had many dreams and he wasn’t about to let them not come true.
"Okay, okay," she said when she made it to the forest clearing, hopping around to face him. "Did you bring it?"
"Of course I did," he panted, pulling the long folded cloak out of his bag.
"Great! We can practice then," Nejire said, twirling around on her foot.
"Yeah!" he cheered.
It was their little secret; practicing magic in the forest together. Nejire would bring her small staff, and Mirio would bring his cloak. Though he wasn't very skilled at using it, he wanted to be better. He wanted to be amazing.
He wrapped the cloak around himself and felt the magical energy flowing through his small body.
Nejire blinked. "Can you feel the energy?" Her eyes darted about, waiting for his body to completely disappear.
"Mhm... I can..." he whispered.
"Is it... doing anything?" she asked, her eyes glistening with impatience.
Mirio shut his eyes, willing the magic to take over his body. He wanted to be invisible, he wanted to show Nejire he could do this. She had always been gifted in magic, a talent that came very easy to her. She could use any magical object she wanted with plenty of ease, and Mirio was admittedly jealous.
"No..." he said finally, turning his eyes down to the ground. If only he was bigger, maybe he could channel the magic properly through his body, but right now it felt like nothing would work.
"Well," Nejire sighed, flopping back down onto the grass. Her long blue hair splayed out behind her as she rolled excitedly onto her stomach, staring up at him. "At least you can feel the magic."
"Yeah," he sighed. "I just wish I could do it."
"Maybe when you start taking classes at school!" she said.
"Yeah but... we're already 10 and you can do so much!" he pouted, folding his arms over his chest.
"You'll get there too!" she said, but both of them froze, hearing a stick snap against the ground. "What was that?" Nejire gasped, sitting up quickly as she glanced around the forest.
Mirio clutched his cloak to his chest. The object was rare, and one he wasn't supposed to take out of the house in fear of others stealing it from him. "I-I dunno..." he mumbled, narrowing his eyes as he looked around.
From the far edge of the clearing, he could see a smattering of dark hair duck into the bush, the plant rustling around. Who... was that?
"H-Hey!" he called out, dropping the cloak near Nejire.
"Mirio! Wait!" she cried out, reaching her hand for him but he dove into the bush, tackling the small creature to the ground.
The other boy whimpered and covered his face with his hands, desperate to not be attacked by Mirio.
"Who are you?!" he accused. "Why were you spying!"
The boy kept his face covered and shook his head back and forth quickly. "I... I..." His voice was so tiny, small enough that Mirio could barely hear him.
"You...?" he asked, slowly sitting back. The boy was trembling and he looked to be about the same age. Maybe he was lost in the forest and was excited to see others like him?
Slowly he lowered his hands, his dark eyes trembling as though he were about to cry. Dark scales littered his cheeks, his ears pointed and long. "I-I... I'm sorry."
"Hey..." Mirio said, softening. Obviously the boy hadn't really done anything wrong. "It's okay!" he smiled. "Are you lost? My friend and I can help maybe!"
The dark-haired boy whimpered, tears falling down his face. He couldn't even bring himself to nod or speak, obviously terrified of something Mirio couldn't place.
"What's your name?" he asked. Placing his hand over his chest, he smiled the widest smile he could muster. "I'm Mirio!"
"T-Tamaki..." he stammered, keeping his fingers wrapped around his cheeks
That was the day he met Amajiki Tamaki, and his life was never the same.
~~
"Are you... really a dragon?" Mirio asked, sitting in the middle of the clearing with Tamaki alone. A few months later and he was still not convinced, probably because Tamaki usually refused to speak about it or show him anything.
Tamaki glanced around and then quickly nodded.
"COOL!" Mirio boomed, his voice loud and echoing through the trees. "That's so amazing! What can you do as a dragon!?" he asked.
Tamaki shrugged.
"Okay..." Mirio muttered, tapping his chin. "Can you fly?"
Tamaki nodded.
"Can you breathe fire?"
He nodded again.
"Can you show me?"
Tamaki shut his eyes and took a deep breath. "Just you..."
His small body began to morph, his neck curling back as claws shot from his fingertips. His hands smacked against the ground as tiny wings sprouted from his back, his tail elongating behind him. Scales trailed up his neck and cheeks, covering his face as his nose pulled into a snout.
It was only a brief moment, Tamaki roaring loudly... and then... before him stood a small purple dragon, glistening in the light which broke through the trees in the clearing.
"Wow..." Mirio said. He slowly stepped forward but Tamaki lurched back, curling in on himself. "Ah!" Mirio gasped. "I-I promise I won't hurt you!"
He was really hoping Tamaki would know that by now, after spending months sharing their bedroom together.
His mother was quick to take the small boy in, and though she had a sneaking suspicion he wasn't human, she chose to keep her mouth shut. Although he was quiet, he became fast friends with Mirio and Nejire... following them wherever they went, practicing magic with the two whenever he was given the chance.
At first Mirio was jealous. Tamaki could use magic without an object, and he honestly had no idea how the boy did so. Mirio would constantly ask and Tamaki would give him his signature silent shrug.
However, Tamaki confessed to being a dragon when he used too much magic one day and scales appeared on his cheeks and arms. He was terrified, screaming in terror when they showed up on his skin, and he tried to cover his arms, but it was next to impossible with the summer clothes he wore. Mirio immediately took him home and Mirio's mother urged him to keep it a secret.
But Mirio had to know. He had to see and witness Tamaki with his own eyes. He took him to the clearing, hoping for some sort of privacy; hoping it would convince Tamaki to change, just for him.
And now that he was seeing him, he couldn't believe how beautiful he was.
Mirio held out his hand, allowing Tamaki to slowly move forward and press his scaled snout against his hand.
"Amazing..." he breathed, brushing his hand over Tamaki's nose. "You're incredible Tamaki!"
He was convinced that was the first time he saw Tamaki smile.
~~
"I can't do it!" Mirio scoffed, angrily tossing the cloak onto the ground.
"M-Mirio..." Tamaki said, nervously, holding his hands towards him, while he glanced around. "I-I uhm..."
Mirio huffed, letting himself sit on the rock. His blue eyes were filled with disappointment as he focused his gaze on the cloak in front of him.
Tamaki hated when Mirio got like this. Mirio was his light, the one who made him smile more than Tamaki could've ever expected. He helped Tamaki speak when he was far too nervous, he gave Tamaki far more love than he ever would've thought he deserved.
After spending their childhood together, they were slowly, but awkwardly, heading into adulthood, and it seemed like of all of them, Mirio was the most positive and ready. He looked after Tamaki and Nejire, and he kept them in check.
However, when it came to magic, the teen... wasn't the best at it. Tamaki only wished he could help.
Slowly, he made his way to his side, taking a seat next to him on the small rock. "You'll get it."
Mirio sighed, letting his head rest in his hands. "That's easy for you to say," he sighed. "You're incredible at magic!"
"It's just... easier for dragons..." he muttered, rubbing his fingers together. "Plus... invisibility magic is hard. But... if anyone can do it, I know you can Mirio."
Tamaki didn't speak much, but when he did, he always meant every word. Someday, he hoped he could say the three words he wanted to most, but for now... maybe he could just help.
"I just wish it came easier. I kept telling myself that I would be able to use this cloak when I was older and here I am, only a few years away from coming of age and I can stay invisible for what? A snap of my fingers?" he sighed.
Under his skin, Tamaki could feel his blood boil. He couldn't stand watching the most positive person he knew be so down on himself. Mirio was an incredibly talented mage. It took a great deal of energy to utilize the invisibility cloak... maybe he just needed a boost.
"Mirio," he whispered and wrapped his hands around Mirio's, helping him stand up.
"Tamaki?" he asked, perplexed as to why he was pulling him into the middle of the field.
There were legends which Tamaki remembered from the few days he recalled of his mother. She would tell him stories before bed, stories of humans and dragons, working and living together, using magically freely.
His mother always believed humans and dragons would work together again. It was why she fled from the dragon world with her son, wishing to live normally among the humans instead of exiled on a single island.
However, she had been killed by dragon guard, not wanting their secret to escape into the world. They never found Tamaki though... Mirio had, in the woods.
And Mirio's body had the capacity for magic... After everything his mother told him, maybe Mirio just needed a little boost.
And maybe Tamaki could give it to him.
"I don't know if this will work..." he muttered. He slid his hand over Mirio's chest, pressing his palm against his shirt. He let his eyes flutter shut, and focused his magical energy into his palm.
"You don't know if what will- O-Oh!" Mirio gasped, and wrapped his hand over Tamaki's wrist, brushing his thumb up and down over her skin. The rush of magical energy hit him in the chest and he gasped again, squeezing Tamaki's hand. "What are you-"
There was a purple glow coming from his hand, and the aura trailed up his arm, scales slowly appearing as they crawled up his neck and cheeks. His magic was draining, escaping into Mirio's body. Once the glow stopped, Tamaki began to pant, but he smiled at Mirio. "Now... try it..." he breathed.
"Tamaki!" Mirio gasped, wrapping his fingers around his hand. "What did you do!?"
"I gave you more magic," he said.
"Are you okay?! Why would you do that?" he asked, panicking. His thick fingers stroked over Tamaki's cheek, brushing at the now visible scales.
"Because I wanted to help you," he whispered, leaning into the touch.
"I-I didn't want you to get hurt!" Mirio urged, panic dancing across his small blue eyes.
"Trust me... I just need some rest, I'll be fine. I want you to try it."
"What if people see-"
"Mirio. Try," Tamaki said softly. He pulled back from the touch and slowly moved to pick up his cloak, handing it to the blond. "Please."
"...Alright..." Mirio sighed. "I don't like this though. I don't like you sacrificing yourself for me."
"I'm not dying," he snorted softly, watching as Mirio wrapped the cloak around himself.
"I don't know what I would do if you did," Mirio said.
"Does it feel different?" Tamaki asked softly.
"...I... you... gave me a lot of magic," he muttered. "I think this is the most magical energy I've ever felt."
Mirio closed his eyes, the cloak disappearing from the bottom up until he was just a floating head, the entire thing gone. "Amazing!" he laughed. "You... did it!"
Tamaki shook his head. "You did, Mirio."
A large laugh boomed from Mirio's lips. "Are you kidding me?! I didn't do anything," he laughed. "I couldn't do this without all the magic you gave me!"
He pranced around the field, only his head bobbing up and down, none of his body visible. The sight was, admittedly, quite foolish and Tamaki couldn't help the small laugh that slipped from his lips.
"What do you think?!" he said, twirling around, his head moving as though it belonged to no body. "Pretty spooky right!"
"Not at all," Tamaki laughed.
"I guess it was worth it to take some of your magic if it was going to make you laugh so hard," Mirio said, laughing with him. He glanced down at his invisible body. It was highly entertaining. "Look Ma! No legs! Or hands! Or anything!"
Tamaki snorted again. What a fool his best friend was; but Tamaki loved him nonetheless. He would've given up all of his magic to make him this happy all the time.
"Gods I love your laugh," Mirio sighed, stopping directly in front of the dragon.
"W-What?" Tamaki said. Mirio was so casual about everything he did, never caring how his words might be weighted and heavy for Tamaki.
"I love... your laugh. I love when you actually smile and your dark eyes light up. I love when I can tell that you're having fun! I love... you, Tamaki!" Mirio chuckled and slipped the cloak off, his body slowly reappearing. Over the years, Mirio had filled into his body, his strong muscles toned and defined. He was more than handsome could possibly describe.
And he just told Tamaki he loved him.
He swallowed, unsure of how to respond. Mirio was his light, a giant sun which lit up a world that had seemed so bleak and lonely...
Of course Tamaki loved him too.
"I..."
Tamaki always chose his words carefully, each one meaning something very special. They shouldn't be taken lightly, and he didn't want Mirio to think he wasn't serious.
"I love you too," he whispered.
Before Tamaki could even finish speaking, Mirio's lips were on his, kissing him. They crashed together, kissing desperately as though they'd been waiting lifetimes to be this close to each other.
"Thank you for doing this for me," Mirio whispered softly, caressing Tamaki's cheeks. "And... thanks for not getting freaked out when I kissed you."
"Mirio..."
"I.. uh... " He stepped back, rubbing the back of his neck. "I've wanted to for a long time."
Tamaki smiled. "Me too..."
"Does this mean... I can do it again?"
As far as Tamaki was concerned, Mirio could do it as much as he liked.
~~
"What if we made a show?!" Mirio cheered one day while the three of them sat in the woods.
"That sounds like a horrible idea! I'm in!" Nejire laughed, a small snort slipping through her nose.
"A... show?" Tamaki asked, immediately recoiling. He didn't like the idea of performing, especially in front of other people. He was supposed to stay hidden; the last thing he needed was to be a spectacle.
"Yeah, you know, performed in front of people! We all have such cool styles of magic, I'm sure people would love to see us. I just... I want to make people laugh!" Mirio said. "I want to be amazing!"
"The Amazing Mirio!" Nejire said, trailing her hand across the sky. "I can see it now!"
"Or maybe... you can't!" Mirio laughed, covering himself with the invisibility cloak.
"What!? Tamaki, did you give him magic again!?" Nejire pouted, folding her arms across her chest. "That's so not fair! It never works when he tries to give it to me."
"Sorry..." Tamaki muttered.
"It's not your fault, Mirio is just too much sometimes!" Nejire sighed.
Flipping the cloak off of himself, Mirio laughed. "But together we could be an amazing team."
"And what is Tamaki going to do when he gets on stage? You won't get embarrassed?" Nejire smirked, leaning over to poke Tamaki's cheek.
"E-Eh?!" he gasped and quickly turned away from her completely facing the other direction. "I... don't... know."
"You can't turn away from a crowd if you're scared!" Nejire teased in her singsong voice.
Tamaki shuttered and shook his head back and forth.
"And really Miri, do you think Tamaki should be using magic in front of other people? What if they realize he's... y'know?" she said, placing her hands on her hips.
"Are you kidding?!" Mirio said. "It's going to be a show about illusions and magic! No one will think he's actually a dragon!" he said.
"Mmm..." Tamaki hummed softly and shook his head back and forth again.
"See! He doesn't want to."
"I'll... try..." he muttered.
"Tama... if you really don't want to, we don't have to. I just thought it was something fun we could all try together," Mirio insisted.
Tamaki scraped his teeth over his lower lip and pressed his hand close to his chest. For Mirio, he would've done anything, even if it was the most terrifying thing he could think of. Of course, a lot of things terrified him, so to hold Mirio back from this seemed... wrong.
What was the worst that could happen?
"I want to try."
~~
Their first show was a disaster.
Nejire introduced Mirio, her long blue hair twirling around her body as she danced across the stage, pumping up the excitement. The audience wasn't very big, but still people were watching.
How terrifying.
Tamaki tried to quell the thoughts swirling around in his brain. What if they discovered he was a dragon? What if he didn't give Mirio enough magic? What if he made a total and complete fool of himself and then Mirio never wanted to speak to him again because he was the soul reason his show was ruined and no one would ever want to come see him again?
"-Tamaki!" Nejire said, calling his name. It was his cue to walk on stage and bow for the audience, but his legs were frozen in place.
Move! He had to. He wanted to. And yet...
"His assistant, Tamaki!" Nejire spoke the words again and he saw her outstretched hand, Mirio waving for him to come out.
He slammed his eyes shut, picturing their hands. He wanted to make it to their hands, wanted to hold them and grasp them tight. They'd been practicing this for weeks and not once had he messed this up. But now, there were people watching and people were terrifying.
He slowly willed his feet to move. He scuffled onto the stage, standing almost directly behind Mirio. The small crowd clapped for him, their hands loud and the sounds of their skin slapping together was sharp and annoying, giving Tamaki a slight headache.
He glanced over Mirio's shoulder and it felt as if he caught all their eyes. Their pupils bore into him, staring at him with so much intensity, Tamaki thought he was naked or he had a target locked onto his chest. Their eyes felt hot, as if they were all slowly melting his skin.
He couldn't do this.
He dashed off the stage far faster than he walked onto it.
Curling himself into a ball, Tamaki knelt down against the grass, covering his ears with his hands. Why did they all have to stare?! Did they notice the small scales on his cheeks, glistening in the awkward stage lighting? They always talked about him oddly, knowing he was a strange boy who never spoke. Perhaps they all came to laugh at him for even trying something like this-
"Tamaki." Mirio's pleasant voice trickled into his ear, interrupting his spiraling train of thought.
"M-Mirio..." he trembled, slowly peeking over his own shoulder to look back at the blond. "W-What are you-"
"I'm not going on that stage without you!" Mirio smiled. Somehow Mirio exuded a confidence Tamaki would never know or be able to find as well as Mirio had.
"But I... I can't..."
"If that's really how you feel, we can wait and try again a different night," Mirio smiled, kneeling down with him. "I want you to know you can do this though. I really believe in you."
He always had. Even when Mirio's own mother had looked at Tamaki like a strange being, Mirio protected him and kept him safe. It was why he was so willing to share magic with him.
Mirio's hands came up to cup his cheeks. They were much stronger now, holding Tamaki's face so he could meet Mirio's cheerful gaze.
"I love you, and I don't want to force you to do anything you don't wanna do. But I know you Tamaki... I know how amazing your magic is and I want to share this with you." He leaned forward, brushing their lips together.
Mirio always looked after him, and Tamaki had made him this promise. He clenched his fists against the ground and pressed back against Mirio's lips.
"I love you too," he mumbled.
He had to try, for Mirio.
So maybe their first show wasn't a disaster. It wasn't perfect. Tamaki barely spoke, and when he did he stammered through his words. His magic seemed far less flashy compared to Nejire and Mirio, but he did it and he supposed that was something.
When the show ended, the three celebrated together, Nejire and Mirio laughing and drinking, complimenting each other for their grand success, even if it felt like a rocky start.
And Nejire, like always, fell asleep early, so Mirio and Tamaki snuck away, just the two of them, like they usually did later in the evenings.
He moved together with Mirio for the first time that night, the two of them naked, pressed up against each other. There was pain and pressure, but Mirio held him through the entire night. Their hips moved together and Tamaki's soft voice spoke Mirio's name over and over.
He gave everything to Mirio, his magic, his body, his heart.
~~
"This isn't sustainable, Miri. You're going to kill Tama!" Nejire said, folding her arms.
"I just need to rest..." Tamaki muttered.
"You say that every time, but every night you look more and more like you're slowly fading away. It takes longer and longer for you to recover from giving Mirio magic!"
"Seriously, Tamaki, maybe we should stop. I can use my regular magic-"
"No!" Tamaki yelled, the loudest his voice ever was. Both Mirio and Nejire froze, staring at their normally quiet best friend. "I can handle it..." he whispered.
He stepped forward and gently placed his hand over Mirio's chest. "Tamaki..." he said, wrapping his fingers around his. "Maybe we should take a break tonight," he suggested.
Lately, the show had been gaining momentum. Everyone was talking about 'The Amazing Mirio' and it seemed every night more and more people flocked to watch them perform. Sometimes people came back to see how things changed.
How could they take a break now?
"No, I'm fine," Tamaki insisted, flattening his hand over Mirio's chest. He shut his eyes, the purple hue covering his hand. He could feel his magic leaving his body, draining slowly from him. It did seem like every night they did this he got weaker and weaker. He needed to train harder and replenish his energy so he could provide Mirio with what he needed.
"Thank you..." Mirio whispered and leaned forward to kiss him. "But please... if you feel tired, I need you to tell me."
"I will," Tamaki lied. The last thing he needed was Mirio feeling guilty for taking the magic Tamaki wished to provide.
When they made their way to the stage, Tamaki tried to focus on Mirio and Mirio alone, even with the strange hum he felt underneath his skin.
Tamaki loved seeing him perform. He laughed with the audience when Mirio used the invisibility cloak, just as he had on the day of their first kiss. His head bobbed about, bouncing through the air. Mirio smiled when he used fire with ease, letting it dance around his body.
His head was throbbing while he watched, waiting patiently for his turn to shoot fireballs into the air.
"And witness, Tamaki's fire power!" Mirio cheered, and the audience turned to him in anticipation. He still wasn't used to the feeling of their eyes on him, but he always tried; for Mirio. He turned his head towards the sky however and he felt his magical energy pulsing at his fingertips, almost completely depleted.
No matter how hard he tried, fire wouldn't manifest itself from anywhere on his body. "M-Mirio..." he gasped, as a sharp pain shot through his chest and the world fell around him, going completely dark.
~~
When Tamaki fell on stage, Mirio was convinced it happened in slow motion. His tiny body collapsing to the ground, convulsing. Mirio immediately recognized what was happening, and as he rushed to his boyfriend's side, the dragon's wings sprouted from his back, laying limply on the ground.
Mirio dashed towards him and scooped him up, carrying him off the stage, praying no one caught a good look of the wings.
He fell to the ground behind the stage, leaving Nejire to make an announcement stopping the show.
"Tamaki... Tamaki!" he gasped and brushed his bangs aside. His face was almost entirely covered in scales, his body slowly going through the change. "No..." Mirio whispered, holding Tamaki in his lap.
Rushing to his side, Nejire knelt down beside him. "I-I don't think he can hold his human form!"
"Me neither," Mirio said and immediately placed his hand on Tamaki's chest, covering up his heart. "I need to give him magic back!"
"Can you do that?" Nejire exclaimed, looking between her two best friends.
"I have... no idea. But I'm going to try."
He stared down at his lover and took a deep breath, shutting his eyes. He could feel the rush of immense magical energy running through his body... it was magic Tamaki had chosen to give him and right now... he didn't deserve It. He should've fought harder against him; Tamaki had been looking weak for days and Mirio knew he couldn't keep giving up his energy over and over.
And yet... Tamaki kept insisting.
"Please..." he begged. "Please work..."
He'd never been as good at magic as Nejire... nor was he as good as Tamaki quite frankly. Yet everyone knew his name and everyone watched him. He had worked his ass off to get to this point... but all would be useless if Tamaki wasn't by his side.
He needed to focus.
Closing his eyes he took a few deep breaths.
"I promised to never leave your side. I vowed we could spend forever together and I need you Tamaki... I need you by my side." He knelt his head down, pushing his forehead against his. "I love you."
Suddenly, he felt a sharp pain in his chest. Wincing, he kept his hand over Tamaki's chest, watching as it began to glow yellow.
"Are you okay-" Nejire began to ask, but the golden light flowed around Mirio and Tamaki, the magic rushing out of Mirio's body, though... it felt oddly balanced... and normal? It was strange... he didn't feel the same as he did without Tamaki's magic, he wasn't completely drained... but he felt as if he could feel Tamaki, their magic energy interspersed and flowing through both of their bodies.
It was a rush that almost made Mirio want to cry. The light enveloped his body and Tamaki's familiar purple hue flowed with his golden, the two colors mixing together beautifullyl. Mirio kept his hand pressed against Tamaki's chest, but he couldn't help but stare while it happened.
The lights slowly faded and the pangs in his chest were subtle now, full of far less pain and more a gentle annoyance.
"M-Mirio..." Tamaki groaned, his dark eyes fluttering open. His wings folded down into his back, his scales disappearing completely. Good, he had enough magic. "What happened?"
"Thank the gods," Mirio sighed, pressing his head to Tamaki's chest. "I was so worried. You collapsed."
"I think I... used too much magic..." he whispered, his hand coming up to his chest. "I... feel replenished though."
"Yeah," Mirio said, a smile pulling across his lips. "You definitely gave me too much," he snorted.
"Guess so..." he said, his brow furrowing. "Are you okay? Please tell me..."
"Nope! I'm totally fine!" he smiled. "I was able to transfer some magic back."
"Oh..." Tamaki muttered, glancing up at him. "I dunno how-"
"Me neither!" he laughed and pressed his forehead to Tamaki's. He could feel the way Tamaki's body hummed with the sensation of his magic, their energy still seemingly connected.
"Mirio..." Tamaki whispered, stroking his hand through his hair. "Can you... feel that?"
"Yeah..." Mirio smirked, and leaned down to kiss him. "I think it's probably got something to do with how much I love you."
Tamaki sighed, a small smile pulling across his lips. "It probably does."
~~
"So... after that you were just... bonded," Uraraka asked, completely enthralled by the story Mirio told.
"Yup!" Mirio smiled, wrapping his hand around Tamaki's.
"But how did you know?" she asked. He pulled down his shirt and Uraraka gasped, noting the small purple moon which sat over his chest. "I see..."
"We've... done a bit more research on it now... and we found out it was actually pretty dangerous," he chuckled, rubbing his neck.
"Dangerous?" Bakugou snorted, raising his eyebrow. "Because you gotta be in peril or some shit?"
"No, no!" Mirio said, waving his hand. "That was just in our case. People can bond normally... but if two people try and bond and they're not... close enough then... the ritual will drain the human of all their magic energy and the dragon will be forced to live their life in dragon form."
Uraraka's eyes widened. "W-What?" she gasped.
Tamaki bit his lip and turned his eyes to the floor, nodding. "I could've ruined everything."
"What?" Mirio laughed loudly. "What do you mean?! We both would have!"
"I don't understand how you both... accidentally bonded," Uraraka muttered.
"Well, it's actually kinda simple," Mirio said. "The ritual really only requires the two parties to share magic back and forth. Tamaki and I were already doing that. It then requires you to say a vow and when I was trying to save him, I vowed I would never leave his side. It must have been enough because it worked! I mean it helps that I love him with all my heart!" Mirio smiled widely, kissing the side of Tamaki's head. "It, uh, helps... if you're more... physically close."
"R-Right!" Uraraka stammered, her cheeks turning bright red. She bit down on her lip. Her and Bakugou weren't... in love were they? They certainly done nothing like that. They had grown closer over the course of this journey and she didn't want to leave him or be without him... but there was no way he would be able to make a vow like that to her. She couldn't imagine this ritual ending in anything but utter and complete disaster.
Then he would be trapped in dragon form and she would have no magic.
"Can you break the bond?" Uraraka asked, the question popping into her mind.
"We never thought about it..." Mirio admitted, shrugging.
"I do remember reading something about it being very difficult to break... painful too. I think it drains you of magic," Tamaki muttered, his eyes shifting back and forth.
More loss of magic. Uraraka's heart thumped loudly in her chest. She could barely hold her focus, her vision blurring. The idea of never having magic again terrified her. She loved her magic more than anything else in the entire world. But... she hated knowing that if she didn't at least try, the dragons could be even worse off...
It was a huge decision.
"But you two can use magic freely?" Bakugou asked, looking at the two boys.
"Yup! The magical current flows between us," Mirio explained. "We replenish each other and it's impossible to get tired or feel drained! I don't have to use an object and Tamaki doesn't have to take from a universal magic source."
"Is it true... that it's draining?" Tamaki whispered. "Are other dragons suffering?"
"Yeah!" Bakugou snapped. "While you've been performing your little show, all the dragons have been fucking suffering!"
"I-I..." Tamaki looked down, guilt apparent on his features.
Mirio frowned. "That's not Tamaki's fault."
"Katsuki, please," Uraraka said, gently placing her hand on his chest. "I'm sorry. It's just... a lot of information," she whispered.
"I know," Mirio said. "It took us a long time to realize why we could use magic as we wanted. It was kind of lucky that it worked out like this," he said. "If we had known, maybe we would've been more hesitant to do the ritual."
"Well we gotta fuckin' try, Cheeks!" Bakugou said. "If we have endless magic we could transfer magic back to the dragons... or teach them this shit!"
Uraraka gasped, shocked Bakugou was still so on board with trying this out. "You... want to?" she asked, blinking at him.
"Of course I fucking do!" he snarled, grabbing her hands. "And you're the only goddamn human worth trying it with."
She looked at their hands and then stared at Mirio and Tamaki. They were lovers... Bakugou had kissed her, but they hadn't done anything remotely physical and Uraraka had no idea if they were even ready for something like that.
"Excuse me..." she whispered, her chest feeling heavy. Her hands slipped from Bakugou's, the room spinning. She needed air... to breathe and know that she didn't need to make a decision to possibly lose all her magic forever.
"The hell?" Bakugou frowned, watching as she pulled her hands back.
She made a promise. She knew she made a promise; to help him no matter what...
But what good would she be if she lost all her magic and trapped Bakugou forever in his dragon form?
Uraraka's chest heaved. "I-I think I need some air."
And with that, she pulled away, dashing out of the hut. She tried to ignore the look of pure hurt on Bakugou's face, the image ingrained in her mind as she ran into the cold winter air.

Hi! Question for the pain sharing au
I am genuinely so so sorry if this question has already been asked, I scrolled through everything so I don’t think it has, but feel free to ignore if I missed it, lol!
So, with you maybe(definitely(you said yet!!)) planning a death of some sort I have to ask, what would that feel like to the others?
Would it be an overwhelming pain then an absence? Would it be a dull hum? Would the others know that Someone is missing from the bond, like a gapping wound in their own chest?
I think you can tell I like the idea of them instinctually knowing that someone is missing, whether they are aware of it or not, lmao!
Sorry, I’ve been thinking on this lots the past few days and my brain has been whirring away with ideas and questions, haha!
Thank you for sharing your beautiful art with us, never fails makes me feel emotions! laughter, sorrow, giddiness & a ton of other similar word/emotions, Hehe!!
Have a lovely day/night Miry<3!!!
Heey!!!! Don't worry about it! There's been like discussions over this, but I don't think there's been like a concrete idea, so thanks for asking!
And yeah...probably...maybe...someone will die (but not yet...) so exploring what it could happen is good, great even...you know...for when it probably happens...👀
So, as far as I've thought about it, if say one of them dies..like taking the last comic as an example, if hyrule gets an arrow to the heart by the lynel and dies instantly, then the others would feel a sharp but brief pang of pain (the arrow piercing the heart) and then absolutely nothing since like, hyrule is dead and his pain can't be transferred anymore
I like the idea that it feels like something is missing, like a phantom limb, something should be there but isn't
Like some part of their soul is now numb
Again, using the scenario of the last comic, the others would immediately know something is wrong even if they aren't there, just through the curse's connection
Then they would feel wind's and four's grief and emotional pain over losing hyrule full force, and the fact someone died will become pretty obvious to everyone connected to the pain sharing
If hyrule were to be revived via a fairy, then I feel like it would be a burst of maybe not pain but feeling? Going through the connection, like when one of ur limbs falls asleep and then u regain feeling there, it still hurts but it's like a relief too
Anyway thank you anon!!!! And I'll be more than happy to answer as best as I can if u have any questions :)
