day eleven of malia’s christmas fic marathon
paring : Tyler Seguin x fem!reader
summary : (Y/N) is surprised when ex boyfriend Tyler knocks on the door of her parents’ house on Christmas Day
warning(s) : angsty, but nothing besides that
author’s note : last two fics of the christmas marathon. let’s do this
༺═──────────────═༻
She has never been happier to be home in Toronto. (Y/N) loves living in Dallas, but the last few weeks haven’t been the best. Being surrounded by family should help her out of the post-breakup funk she’s been in recently.
Even now as she's sitting in the living room with her family in her Christmas pajamas and opening their gifts, she misses Tyler. She misses her old life with Tyler, but she couldn't do it anymore. She couldn't keep doing the distance.
He was away more often than he was home. When he was home, he went out with his teammates after games or on off days. She'd often go weeks without seeing him because he'd stay over at a teammate's house.
She wasn't equal with hockey anymore. Not like she used to be. She got tired of it.
She never gave him an ultimatum because she could never make him choose between her and hockey. (Y/N) made her feelings known and Tyler didn't seem to care, so she has been living with her best friend in Dallas and came home for Christmas a week ago. She stopped answering Tyler's texts and calls so she hasn't even talked to him in nearly two months.
Her family doesn't notice that something's wrong. (Y/N) does her best to keep a smile on her face and interacts with her nieces and nephews as they open their gifts. No one has asked where Tyler is and she is very much grateful for that.
As (Y/N) opens a gift from her mom, there's a knock on the door. Her mom goes to answer it as she opens the box that contains a Dallas Stars customized jersey that has her last name above the 91. "Tyler!" her mother shouts from the front door. "It's so nice of you to join us. We didn't think you'd be joining us."
Her head snaps toward the door so quickly that she thought for a split second that she gave herself whiplash. She's very surprised to see her ex standing at the front door of her parents' house in Toronto.
"I needed to go see my parents before coming over," Tyler says as he looks right at (Y/N). "Sorry I'm late. I forgot how insane Toronto traffic can be."
Words cannot express how angry and annoyed she is that he is at the door. She thought that he would've gotten the message that she was done when she didn't talk to him for two months.
Apparently not because there he stands in a Stars hoodie and plaid pajama pants with a bag full of gifts at the front door.
She gets up off the floor and pushes Tyler out the door without a word to anyone. It closes behind her, leaving the two of them alone in the cold Toronto air. Snow is on the ground and she's outside in a tank top, fuzzy pajama pants, and slippers. (Y/N) can't even feel the cold because of the fact that she is fuming.
"You have no right showing up," she spits at him. "We haven't spoken in two months and you show up at my parents' house."
Tyler blinks and says, "Last time I checked, you're the one that stopped talking to me. I don't remember being told that I wasn't allowed to come to Christmas because you stopped answering my texts and calls."
"We're done, Tyler," she tells him. "In case that wasn't clear."
"You're done," he retorts. "I'm not. I don't understand why you just up and left."
"I told you why!" (Y/N) practically shouts. "You're gone for weeks at a time, Tyler. The only time I get to see you is when we're separated by a thick piece of glass while I'm sitting in the stands and you're on the ice. You used to spend off days with me, you used to come home to me and we'd watch a movie on the couch or in bed. Then you decided to go out after every game or go out on off days."
He runs a hand through his hair and says, "I am a leader, (Y/N). I was never around my team. I needed to show them that I am still a leader and I couldn't do that when I was cooped up at home with you. You knew what you were getting into when we started dating and all of a sudden, you can't handle it anymore?"
Anger courses through her veins. Her blood is boiling to the point where the snow might melt around her. "No," she retorts. "I can't do it anymore. You used to make time for me and now you're a ghost. I was living in a shell of our past life together while you seemed to be moving on. I was alone in that apartment. It was like I didn't have a boyfriend anymore. I didn't think it would be that big of a deal if I left."
A look of hurt flashes on Tyler's face. "Of course it would be a big deal if you left," he softly says. "I love you. I miss you."
She shakes her head and does everything she can to keep the tears from spilling over to her cheeks. "You didn't listen," she tells him. "I told you how I felt and you still went out that night after the game. I made the decision to leave because I knew that if you went out after I told you how I felt, you'd keep going out. I couldn't do it anymore."
Tyler frowns and says, "I went out to tell the guys that I wasn't going to be going out as much with them after games and on off days. That is the only reason I went out. I was gone for thirty minutes. When I came back to the apartment and you were gone, I realized that I didn't tell you that I'd be right back."
"I- you-" she cuts herself off when she realizes that if she had just stayed around for an hour, he would've been back. "Why didn't you just text that to me?"
"I thought that you'd be back," he admits. His eyes fall to the ground. "I didn't think you'd ignore me for two months. I didn't think it would take you a half hour to pack a bag and leave. I should've told you that I'd be right back."
A tear slips down Tyler's cheek. Her own tears begin to fall when she sees Tyler's tears. "Tyler, I'm so sor-"
"It's not your fault," he interrupts her. "Don't you dare apologize. We wouldn't even be in this situation if I had just realized how lonely you were or if I had just told you that I would be right back. I'm sorry. I know I probably shouldn't have come up here to try and fix things but I couldn't let you spend Christmas thinking you did something wrong when you didn't."
She takes a few steps forward and wraps her arms around his torso. Tyler's free arm wraps around her shoulders as she buries her face in his chest.
They've both done a lot wrong the past few months, but all they can do now is acknowledge what they've done wrong and move past it.
Hopefully Tyler's season can recover too because despite not being together, (Y/N) did keep an eye on his stats. He really began to fall apart a week after she left the apartment and has never been able to get it together.
That's all on her.
"Sorry your season has gone to shit," she sniffles as she looks up at him. "You can blame that on me."
Tyler shakes his head and cups her jaw with his free hand. "I'll never blame how good or bad a season is going on you," he tells her. "That will never be on you.'
A gust of wind blows and she shivers. Tyler wraps his arm back around her shoulders and holds her close to him. "I'll blame myself enough for both of us," she says. "Can we go inside?"
"As long as you're not done," Tyler replies. "I came up here to fight for us and I won't go inside unless you tell me that we can go back to how things were, minus my going out all the time."
(Y/N) looks up at him and nods. "I'm not done," she practically whispers. "Even when I said I was done, I don't think I actually was. You're impossible to move on from, Tyler Seguin."
He smiles and leans down to press a soft kiss to her lips. He hums and pulls back. "God, (Y/N)," he says. "Your lips are so cold. Let's go."
She lets out a light laugh and walks into the house with Tyler in tow.
Everyone looks at the two of them as Tyler pulls off his hoodie and pulls it over (Y/N)'s head since they were outside for fifteen minutes talking in freezing temperatures. "Everything okay?" her mom asks. "You guys were outside for a while. I thought I heard yelling."
"Everything's okay," she assures everyone in the living room. She goes back to sitting on the ground and Tyler sits next to her. He takes her hands in his so they warm up. She leans into him and rests her head on his shoulder. "We're okay."
That was more for Tyler than anything. He kisses the top of her head before he starts to hand out the gifts that he brought with him for (Y/N)'s parents and siblings. She watches them open their presents with a smile on her face.
Then Tyler holds a little present in front of (Y/N). She slowly takes it and looks up at him. "What is this?" she asks.
"Now that would ruin the surprise," Tyler teases. "Open it and find out. I know technically we weren't together when I bought this but I knew I wanted to buy it for you."
She unwraps it and opens the little black box. There's a silver ring that sits inside with a 91 in little diamonds on it. Her jaw drops and she looks up at her boyfriend. "You really went all out even though we weren't together," she gasps.
Tyler grabs it out of the box and takes her right hand. He slides the ring on the ring finger. "Wanted to make sure that everyone knows who your boyfriend was when we got back together," he replies. She admires the ring on her finger and Tyler kisses the ring.
(Y/N) smiles and leans against him to watch the last few presents get opened.
It finally feels like Christmas now that Tyler is here. It didn't feel like it until he got here because they have spent the last three Christmases together.
Despite being angry that he showed up, she's very happy he's here now.

Hello my love! Congrats on 1k!! You are so deserving of all the love you’re getting, and I adore you to bits! 🥰💚
My I please have one of them there “Lead Me to the Garden” Chai Cookies?? With my boy Tyler and the prompt “myrtle”?? You know…because tis the season with him. 😉
listen: Tyler is fun and chaotic, his wedding reception seemed fun and chaotic, and i was in a fun and chaotic mood while writing so that's the vibe! (also Katy Perry's "Waking Up in Vegas was on repeat while writing for additional vibes) [also, also: i adore you more!!]
word count: 1.9k (went off again)
The groan you let out is involuntarily as the sharp ray of sunlight cuts through the window and onto your face. You attempt to roll over and turn away from the light but your movements are halted by a strong arm tightening around your waist. The weight of it against you causes your eyes to pop open before squinting shut again as the sun continues to pierce your line of sight.
It takes a moment for you to wiggle your way into a shadow so you can survey your surroundings, your head still pounding.
Your eyes scan the hotel room, clothes thrown on the floor and trash and other memorabilia strewn around the room. It takes a minute for you to remember that you were in Vegas, a much-needed vacation with a few of your closest friends. But while you remember your location, the memories of last night were still a blur of neon and alcohol.
There were plenty of questions in your head, all of which you needed answers to. But the most pressing one in the moment was finding out whose arm was slung over your frame.
Your eyes start at the tips of his fingers and travel up across the tattooed skin, the patterns seeming familiar but in your hungover haze, your mind was having trouble connecting the dots. That is until you see you see the 5-3-1 on the top of his shoulder and you can’t help but breathe a sigh of relief as you spin and come face-to-face with your boyfriend Tyler.
You don’t bother being gentle as you throw Tyler’s arm off of you, with only a slight mumble from him in protest as he nestles deeper in the sheets, no doubt fighting the same hangover that you were. You heave your body into an upright position, a move which you swiftly regret as the room immediately starts spinning on its axis.
Your hands shoot up to your face as you take a few deep breaths to ground yourself, reverting to the exercises that your therapist taught you for when you were feeling unmoored.
5 things you could see: the skyline from the window, the feather boa thrown over the desk chair, your heels kicked off by the door, the bouquet of flowers on the table, and Tyler in bed next to you.
4 things you could hear: traffic from outside, the whir of the air-conditioning, voices from the hall passing in front of your door, and the vibrating of a phone somewhere in the room.
3 things you could smell: Tyler’s cologne, your own perfume, and the lingering scent of coconut rum.
2 things you could feel: the hotel sheets against your skin and the cool metal of a ring on your finger.
1 thing that was real right now: you felt like you got run over by a truck.
Another small groan comes from you as you move your limbs, your joints cracking as you stretch, shaking as much of the lingering ache from your body. You still weren’t 100% sure what happened last night but damn, it must have been one hell of a party if this was how you felt afterwards.
You sigh before turning to look down at Tyler, his curls messy and his face buried in the pillow. Part of you didn’t want to wake him up but another part of you wanted him to share in your misery. The latter wins out as your grab his shoulder and start shaking.
“Tyler,” you say, your voice coming out hoarse and you can’t stop the grimace that appears on your face. You quickly shake off your disgust and start to say his name until the glint of gold stops your motions. Your eyebrows furrow as you eye the band sitting on your left ring finger.
The design seems familiar; the shield, scroll, and wings in the center all tugging at the corner of your memory. You lift your hand off of Tyler’s warm skin to examine the jewelry further. As you bring the ring closer to your eyes, you manage to make out the inscription of St. Michael’s College surrounding the signet. When the combination of the image and words finally click, it doesn’t give you any answer, just more questions.
Like, why the fuck were you wearing Tyler’s class ring?
An image of a man dressed like Elvis and the phantom feeling of Tyler’s lips on yours invades your mind and your heart drops as your mind starts to piece together a possible explanation.
No. That couldn’t possibly be right. Take a deep breath and think.
But your brain had already made the logical conclusion so try as you might, you couldn’t even focus on any other possibilities. That’s why your shaking of Tyler turned from annoying to frantic.
“Tyler. Tyler. Tyler!!’ you repeat, your voice raising with ever iteration of his name.
“What. What?” Tyler grumbles, finally waking up and turning around in the bed to glance up at you through squinted eyes.
“I – I think we got married last night.”
“What?” Tyler says, your words causing him to sit up fully and take in the room.
“Do you remember anything?”
“Not… really. But what makes you think we got married?”
Your wordlessly reply by holding up your hand so he can see the ring sitting on your finger. You feel Tyler grab your hand to take a closer look before he drops your hand onto the plush sheets.
“Okay but that doesn’t mean that we actually got married,” Tyler says, his own voice ladened with disbelief. “There has to be another explanation.”
“What other explanation is there? Your ring on my finger, us in bed together, the bouquet of fake flowers on the table and the fucking veil thrown over the lampshade!” you list, your anxiety continuing to spike by the minute. You can feel the tears welling in your eyes and your hands once again move to cover your eyes. “Oh my god, we had a Vegas wedding and we can’t remember it. I feel like I’m in a bad comedy movie.”
“Hey, it’s okay just breathe,” Tyler interrupts, placing a hand on your shoulder. “Let’s just try and figure this out, yeah?”
His voice pulls you back to reality as it always did and you open your eyes again, glancing in his direction. His soft smile pulls a similar grin onto your lips as you take another few deep breaths.
“Okay, I think the best thing for us to do would be to find a phone. Call our friends, see if they remember last night any better than us,” Tyler explains.
“I know I heard someone’s phone buzzing earlier. I think it’s on the desk.”
Tyler doesn’t hesitate to slide out of bed and wander over to the desk and after moving some clothes and beads and papers, he triumphantly hold up a cell phone and you sigh when you recognize your phone case. He wanders back over towards you, handing you the device.
You snatch it from his hand and press the lock button to light up the home screen. The second you do, you find dozens of text messages from your best friend.
Do you remember what happened last night? It’s a little bit of a blur to me. Oh fuck. Babe, wake up. Are you with Tyler right now? Answer me, I need to talk to you. I found these in my camera roll. [4 photos, 1 video] That’s you and Tyler, right? Please tell me I’m not hallucinating. Helloooooo???
Your heart continues to pound as you click on the attachments and scroll through. And there is no denying that the subject of every one is you and Tyler:
You and Tyler fully clothed in a pool. You and Tyler sitting on a pink convertible. You and Tyler posing under a floral arch, a bouquet in your hands and a veil on your head. You and Tyler posing with an Elvis impersonator at the end of an aisle. And when you click the video, you are no longer shocked to see a shaky video of you and Tyler kissing in some random chapel.
“Holy shit,” you hear Tyler say and when you glance over your shoulder, you see Tyler hovering right next to you, watching the video as well. “I can’t believe it. We’re actually married.”
The two of you just stare at each other for a moment, the reality of the situation sinking in. You don’t know what to say, what to think, what to do. But eventually, your involuntary reactions take over and you… start laughing.
Laughing at the absurdity of it all, laughing at the mess you got yourself into, laughing at the fact that you married your boyfriend of 2 years in the most cliché way possible.
Tyler stares at you in confusion for a moment before he is joining in. Your laughter mixes together and it isn’t long until you two are collapsed back in bed, looking over at each other.
“We’re married!” you exclaim, the lingering giggles painting the tone of your voice.
“Yeah…” Tyler sighs, staring up at the ceiling with you. “Why the fuck did I give you my class ring?”
“That’s what you’re asking right now?” you say in disbelief, propping yourself up on your elbow to look at Tyler. “I mean, my guess is you didn’t have another ring so you gave me the only one you had.”
“I mean, that would make sense. But I do have another ring.”
The words hang in the air as you try to decipher their meaning. Tyler lets you process for a moment but when no explanation comes to you, he is once again scooting off the bed. This time he walks over to the closet and open the door. You peer over his shoulder trying to see what he’s doing but you can’t see anything. You can only hear the rustling of him digging through his duffle bag.
Tyler lifts himself up and turns back towards you, his hands hidden behind his back.
“I was planning on this being a little more romantic but I guess I was too excited to marry you that I just cut out the middle man.”
Your eyebrows furrow as you listen to him, watching his slow approach as he sits down on the edge of the mattress.
“I’m really happy we’re married – even if neither of us can remember most of it,” he says with a laugh, one that you return. “But I do need my ring back. So…”
Tyler trails off, only to pull a small ring box into your line of sight and you gasp when he opens the lid to reveal a beautiful engagement ring nestled in the velvet.
“I would ask you to marry me but it feels a little awkward since we already are. Um, so, will you do me the honor of… staying married to me?”
You can’t help the laugher that falls from your lips as you take in everything that happened in what was most likely the weirdest morning of your entire existence. But the answer to Tyler’s awkward question would have been the same, even if he was asking it in front of the Bellagio fountains while you were wearing your best dress.
And for the first time this morning, you don’t overthink the situation as you practically leap into Tyler arms and kiss him fiercely. Tyler responds by pulling you close, his arms securing you as he deepens the kiss.
After a moment you pull away, smiling like a fool up at him.
“Yes, Tyler. I will marry you, stay married to you, whatever. I wouldn’t leave you for all the money in Las Vegas.”
“Bold statement,” he teases. “We still got three days here. Maybe we can hit the biggest jackpot ever tonight.”
“Well, if we do, let’s make sure we stay sober enough to remember it.”

Cold As Ice - The Interview
Tumblr media
Here my fic for the May AU event for the HRPF fandom. As usual I am late getting it done. Apparently, I am physically incapable of writing a short blurb.
This a mafia AU. @pattiemac1 and I have created this AU together over the last two/three years. We add to it then take things away constantly. She graciously allowed me to insert my characters of Lex and Teddy (from Journey to the Emerald City) into the world.
This is a little glimpse into the world of a Sidney Crosby led mafia family and Teddy/Lex became a part of it. I don't think it needs much warning other than language and some implied violence. As usual fluff abounds between my two little cupcakes.
I will put a link at the bottom for anyone interested about Teddy/Lex in their world.

SUMMER 2021 - DALLAS, TEXAS
Tumblr media
Jamie “Lex” Oleksiak yawned as drove down the expressway toward home. It had been a rough night at the club. Three guys had called off and so he was forced to work at the front door. Between the oppressive heat and steady wave of SMU sorority girls shooting their shot with him, he was more than ready to get home. He mentally pictured the refrigerator and recalled at least two bottles of cold beer that he would be drinking soon.
His cell phone rang and he glanced at the notification on his console screen. “Of course Seggy would call at 3 AM,” he thought to himself. He answered the call at the last moment. “Hey Seggy,” he said, “What’s up?”
Tyler Seguin held his cell phone to his ear and unbuttoned his shirt. “You are a tough guy to track down, Big Rig,” the brunette laughed, “I had to call three different guys to get your number. It’s like you dropped off the face of the planet. You still in Dallas?”
“Yeah, still in here in Big D,” he muttered, feeling stung by the word still. It was not his plan to still be in Dallas. No, he had planned to return to Toronto with this tail tucked between his legs years ago. But life got in the way and his career began in security. He had almost saved enough to make the move back with a little dignity when he was struck by a thunderbolt. A thunderbolt named Theodora “Teddy” Baxter.
Ironically, they met the last time that he had been forced to work the front door at the club. The moment she looked up with those bright blue eyes and megawatt smile as she handed over her ID, he was hooked. For reasons still unknown to him, she had agreed later that night to go on date with him. They had been inseparable ever since and any plans to move back to Toronto went out the window. His heart was firmly planted in Dallas. Well, anywhere she was.
“What’s keeping you there?” Seggy questioned, “I thought you would have moved onto greener pastures by now. I know I did.”
“It’s complicated,” Lex answered vaguely.
Seggy got quiet for  a moment and debated whether to push the issue. Big Rig was not known to be an open book and he needed him to have an open mind. “I got ya. Life’s like that sometimes,” he commented casually, “Listen, you still doing security work? That’s the word on the street.”
“Depends on who is asking,” Lex answered coolly. Other than his parents, he had not admitted to any of his Toronto friends that his professional hockey career had been a bust.
“It’s me asking - it’s me,” Seggy answered. He had picked up on the tone in Big Rig’s voice. They shared in a desire to not let word of their career failure reach Canada. They had that much in common.
“And why are you asking?” Lex asked warily.
“Because I have a lead on a job and I think that you would be a good fit.” he said bluntly. Tyler tried to mask the desperation in his voice.
The last guy that was brought into the crew turned out to be an utter disaster. Claude Giroux had been recommended to the crew by Flower and didn’t take long to discover that he wasn’t going to last long. His gruff demeanor ruffled the sensitive egos of the rag tag crew. The last straw was when he openly defied The Boss. It was so bad that HE delivered the permanent pink slip to the back of Giroux’s head himself.
“Tell me more,” Lex asked.
Tyler explained that the job would be head of security for the CEO for Maritime Industries. When Lex didn't respond immediately, Tyler read from his phone. “Planning and implementing comprehensive security strategies, controlling the security operations budget, monitoring expenses,” he rattled on.
“Seggy, are you reading that off your phone?” Lex interrupted.
“Ummmm, no” Seggy stammered.
“Don't bullshit me. What's the job?” Lex asked.
“It’s a crew in Pittsburgh- mainly strip clubs and a few night clubs,” Seggy sighed, “and a few extracurricular activities.” Tyler tried to downplay the extent of the organization until he got a sense of how comfortable Lex would be with the ethically gray area.
“Seggy…..we are not 21 any more,” Lex asserted, “I’m too old to go back to that petty ass shit.”
“Big Rig, would you believe me if I told you that Sid is planning on going legit?” Tyler pleaded, “We really need a guy like you.”
“Sid?” Lex questioned, “Like Sid Crosby? That guy runs all of Pennsylvania and half of NYC. Holy shit - Seggy how did you end up on that crew.”
“Long story, but let’s just say that my hockey skills finally paid off,” Tyler smiled, “Seriously, he is going legit soon. The pay is good and there are bennys.”
“How good is the pay?” Lex quizzed.
“Let’s just say that my family isn’t questioning my “hockey” career anymore,” he replied.
“Shit - that good?” Lex muttered as he pulled into the parking lot of his apartment building. He looked up and saw the light on his living room. Teddy was waiting for him. Teddy who had never gotten so much as a parking ticket, much less arrested. “No,” he thought to himself, “I can’t bring her into that life.” He sighed, “Sorry, Seggy. I can’t.”
“Why?” Tyler whined. Sid wasn’t too happy that he was having to handle the day to day security operations and you know what they say, that shit ran down hill to Tyler. He needed to get someone to replace Giroux. He needed that someone right now.
“Sorry, Segs - I gotta girl now. I don’t want to mess it up,” Lex said softly.
“You’re turning down this dream job over a girl? Are you crazy?” Tyler scoffed.
“Yeah, I am crazy,” Lex sighed, “I just can’t risk losing her.”
“I gotta meet this girl,” Tyler pushed before he decided that a softer touch was required, “I get it. Not really, but I get it. Why don’t you take a night and think about it. I can hold off Sid for that long.”
“I doubt I will change my mind, Seggy,” Lex countered, “She is the real deal.”
Tumblr media
Lex hung up the phone and walked up to his apartment. He set his things down as he walked past the cramped kitchen. It was really just a glorified studio, but Teddy had done her best to make it homey. She had even started a new series on her YouTube channel - DIY Dollar Tree home decor.
As if by unknown force, Teddy began to rouse when she felt Lex’s presence in the room. She had fallen asleep with her laptop open while editing videos. “Lex?” she yawned as she stirred, “Is it that time?”
He walked over to her and moved her laptop to the table before scooping her into his lap. “Yeah,” he kissed her cheek as she curled her body into his chest. “How was work?” he questioned.
Since the “Great Escape”, Teddy had taken two jobs to replace the income from her father’s real estate firm. Even with that, the duo struggled to make ends meet.  She had grown up with every luxury known to man and gave it all up two months ago to be with him after her father had issued the ultimatum. She had to pick between her family and her love. She made the choice in an instant and never looked back. Now she was waitressing at the best steakhouse in town at night and nannying for Stars goalie Ben Bishop during the day. She operated on fumes but never once complained.
“Work was good. I had a private party so the tip was great, even the company was horrible,” she smiled. Lex furrowed his brow while she continued  “Paige came in and was well, you know, Paige,” she sighed, “Thank God for automatic gratuity. She might have stiffed me otherwise.” Lex studied her face and could see her desperately trying to keep the facade up but he could see the pain behind her eyes. Paige had been her childhood best friend but had turned her back on Teddy when she chose him after her family’s ultimatum.
“Foz,” he said gently as he caressed her face. She smiled at the nickname he had given on their first date. It had started out as “Fozzy Wozzy Bear had red hair”, but had shortened over time to just Foz.
She shook her head to protest and shake the negative thoughts that were beginning to swirl in her brain. “No, Lex - it’s fine,” she lied, “She’s not important and I am glad that I could see her true colors finally.” She had seen the true colors of most of her childhood friends as one by one they dropped her. “It’s funny,” she thought to herself, “None of them had anything to say as they ignored the obvious signs that Chaz was beating me. But let me fall in love with a good, decent man who works hard and all of a sudden they are all concerned about my well-being.” The bitterness rose up inside of her.
Her mind raced for a distraction. “I have a surprise for you!’ she jumped up and his eyes followed her. She came back with a to-go bag from the restaurant. He pulled out the box and opened it. Inside was a huge tomahawk steak with all the trimmings. He looked up to see her beaming smile, “They said it was overcooked because they wanted it super rare, but it’s cooked just like you like it, so I snagged it.”
She moved to the side of him as he ate off of his lap. They enjoyed the moment in quiet contentment as Lex’s mind raced. “How long?” he asked himself, “How long can I ask her to make these sacrifices? How long before she runs back to the easy life. The life I can’t give her.”
His thoughts were interrupted with her voice, “Spill it, Jamieson.” She only used his full name when she was completely serious.
“An old friend called with a job offer,” he started. Her face lit up immediately. “But it’s in Pittsburgh,” he interjected, expecting her face to drop. It did not. “And it’s not necessarily completely above board.” Again, he expected her expression to change, but it was bright and hopeful. “I told them no,” he said finally. “Why?” she questioned.
“I can’t leave you,” he answered.
“Then take me,” she replied as if it was the obvious answer.
“You would go? You would go to Pittsburgh? But Dallas is your home,” he said in disbelief.
“My home is with you, Love,” she kissed his cheek.
“And it doesn't bother you that there may be some shady shit?” he prodded.
“There is shady shit going on everywhere, even the corporate world. There is a reason my father has a security detail. You don’t become a billionaire without doing some shady shit and making a few enemies along the way. What's the difference? The real question is would you take the job if I weren’t a factor?”
“I would at least go have the conversation,” he answered,
“Then go have the conversation,” she kissed his cheek.
Lex picked up the phone and dialed Seguin. He only spoke three words when Tyler answered, “Set it up.” Then he hung and focused on Teddy, “Tell me about Paige. What did she do this time? Do I need to go pay her a visit”  He tickled her sides and nipped at her neck. “I can be your enforcer, Foz. Just say the word.”
TWO DAYS LATER
Tumblr media
“Foz” Lex asked as she adjusted his tie on the private plane Crosby had sent for them, “Where did you find this suit? I am not buying the Goodwill story.” The odds have her randomly finding a tailored suit that fit his almost six eight frame was slim to none.
“I acquired it. That's all you need to know,” she grinned.
Lex opened the suit jacket and saw the label with the words “Custom made for RTB”. He looked up at her in surprise. “Is this your dad's suit? Did you steal a suit from your dad?” Their height was about the only thing he had in common with the stubborn, prideful man.
“Steal is such a harsh word,” she answered as she brushed imaginary lint off of his chest. He looked at her with one eyebrow raised,”it's an old suit. It was languishing in the back of his closet. I am pretty sure he wore it to my confirmation. We are giving it new life.”
“You stole it, Foz,” he teased.
“Well, think of me as modern day Robin Hood,” she teased as she pulled on his tie to kiss him, “And you can be me Maid Marian.”
His eyebrows furrowed in sign of disapproval. “What? You would look good as Maid Marian,” she protested before continuing, “I simply tested the supposedly top notch security system at my parent's house. I was doing them a service actually. They should be thanking me that I only took a suit as payment. It could have been worse.”
“Put it back once we get home,” he chided.
“Fine, but Lex, I don’t think you are going to be up for the level of shady shit working for Sid Crosby is going to require if you can’t accept one re-acquisitioned suit from my father,” she playfully pouted.
“I am the only criminal in this relationship. You are the virtuous one with the heart of gold, got it?” he said. He cracked a smile, but the message was clear - leave the shady shit to him.
“Got it,” as she adjusted his tie, “Now let’s go knock him dead.”
Maritime Manor - Sidney Crosby Compound - Fox Chapel, Pennsylvania
Tumblr media
Lex stood at the large picture window for a moment. He examined what he could see of the extensive  grounds. The lawn was well manicured with each of the smaller cottages on the compound sharing a large common area. Just beyond the cottages was a wooded area that extended to what looked like a river or creek bed. He mentally checked for sight lines and frowned at the results.
He turned around and examined the large office that had been created from two small guest rooms. At the far end, a large conference table sat covered with stacks of money. From what he could quickly estimate, it was easily $20K in stacks with a pile left to be sorted. He walked closer to the table. The pile was probably another 50K left to be sorted from collected protection money from the weekend.
Outside the office, he heard the jovial sounds of the crew chirping each other. Suddenly they got quiet. He turned to face the door. The chatter had turned seriously and he heard the sound of the front door open. He then heard the sound of Sid’s distinct Nova Scotian accent, “Who is she?”
Then he heard the accented voice of Andre Burakovsky, “She’s with the big guy. He’s waiting for you in the office.” Lex’s body tensed up and he faced the door.
Seggy piped in, “You left him in the office? Alone?”
“That’s not good?” the Swede questioned Seggy as they walked past him. Sid’s silence sent the resounding message that it was indeed, no good. Lex heard footsteps that approached the door. He resumed his position by the picture window, but turned when Sid and Seggy walked in the room.
Sid did a quick visual assessment as he walked in. His lips pursed when he saw the stacks of money in the open. When his eyes landed on the gun left out in the open, he shook his head, “Burky, Burky, Burky.”
After a quick one shoulder hug and pat on the back, Tyler moved to make the introductions. “Sid, this is Jamie Oleksiak aka Big Rig,” he began, “We go back a long way. Big Rig, this is Sid Crosby. He runs this crew.”
“I am sure that he knows who I am, Seggy,” Sid interjected as he shook hands with Lex, “You can leave us alone now.” Tyler’s head went back and forth as the two stood in an extended handshake.
“Sure, Sid,” Tyler said through the tension that radiated off of the two men sizing each other up. “I’m just going to go head over to the clubs and deal with that bouncer issue.”
Lex noted the hand strength in the shorter man as Tyler left. He also noted the slight flair in his nostrils and tense jaw. On the surface, Sid appeared calm and neutral.  He crossed in front of Lex to walk to his desk. He made a quick turn while pulling out his gun. He was met by a gun pointed between his temple as Lex quickly removed his gun from his hand. Time stood still as the two men stared each other down. The beating of each other’s heart pounded in their ears. It was then that Sid noticed the gun pointed at his head was one of his own. His eyes shifted and he saw the hidden gun safe ajar.
Sid said neutrally, “So what’s your plan of action here, Big Rig?”
“Well, I would say my plan of action is to find out if you are as big of an idiot as your crew,” Lex said equally as cool, “Also I would say that we are in the process of sizing each other up. I think I have the upper hand literally and figuratively.”
“I think that you have proven your point,” Sid took a step back without breaking eye contact, “You have found some vulnerabilities that need to be addressed. Care to sit down and discuss the job now like professionals?”  Lex nodded and Sid carefully walked behind his desk.
“Hands on the desk,” Lex ordered as he kept the gun pointed at Sid.
“Come on, Big Rig,” Sid smiled, “I said like professionals. Besides, do you think I am going to kill you with your girl sitting in the next room?”
Lex’s eyes squinted slightly but his expression did not change. He shrugged and said, “It’s a possibility, but that’s assuming that you get me before I get you, which is not going to happen.”
“Fair enough,” Sid conceded, “You got the job by the way if you want it. Want to hear the details?” Lex nodded his head yes. Impressed with Sid’s direct approach. “Then put the damn gun down,” Sid instructed. Lex lowered his weapon, but kept the gun in his hand. “First, tell me the other vulnerabilities you saw.”
“I don’t work for free,” Lex replied, “Tell me about the job and compensation. I will discuss it with Teddy. Then I will give you a breakdown of your slip-shod security.”
Sid sat back and smiled, “You don’t bullshit. I like that.”
“I find that it makes life simpler,” Lex responded.
“Alright, here is a breakdown of the job. You are head of security for all business locations as well as the compound. You have complete discretion in terms of staffing and resources that you need. My only non-negotiables are Seggy and Burky. They may need some fine tuning, but I trust them,” Sid explained, “Compensation includes salary, housing and benefits.”
“What’s the salary?” Lex quizzed.
“Name your price,” Sid answered without hesitation. Lex balked and Sid continued, “Look, I have a good gut instinct about you. You have already proven that you will stand your ground and you are not a yes man. That’s what I need.”
“I gotta talk it over with my lady,” Lex answered slowly, “Tell me about the crew.”

Outside in the great room, Teddy’s legs bounced up and down on the gray leather sofa as she  played with the bracelet on her wrist. She moved her fingers from stone to stone. Burky watched from the side of the room and ran his fingers through his hair before bringing his thumb to his mouth. He slowly chewed his fingernail while contemplating his next move. He knew had screwed up letting the Big Bird or whatever his name was into the office. He had been distracted by the red head when she entered the room wearing a navy blue sheath dress that hugged her curves. Women had always been his weakness.
Sid would come down hard on his stupidity if he didnt come with a plan to make up for it. “What were you thinking, dumbass?” he chastised himself. Suddenly he saw a glint that caught his eye. He focused on the origin of it and smiled widely. He knew what he needed to do.
“Excuse me” he asked brightly and exaggerated his Swedish accent slightly,  “What did you say your name was?
Teddy looked over at him warily, “Teddy.” She wasn’t in the mood to make small talk. She was a bundle of nerves as the reality of the situation sank in. This could be her future - a future outside of Texas. It was a move that would hammer the final nail in the coffin of her relationship with her parents.
“Ahhh, Teddy is a man's name, correct?” he questioned “Your parents wanted a boy and not a girl?”
“Wow,” she said as her eyebrow raised slightly, “You get right to the point…..”
“Andre,” he grinned, “They call me Burky.” He studied her body language as he decided on his approach. “You look thirsty. We can go get a drink in the kitchen.” he said sweetly.
She studied his face for a moment. He seemed friendly enough, much friendlier than she thought a part of Sid Crosby’s crew should be. It couldn’t hurt to make conversation and learn a little bit more about the job from his perspective, she told herself.
“Do you have coffee?” she smiled back, “I would love some.” She willingly followed along as he led them  into the spacious kitchen. They made small talk as they made their coffees. They reached over each other as they put their cream and sweeteners in their mugs. He spoke of his move from Sweden to the states to pursue a hockey career. Like Lex and Seggy, his professional career had been a bust. In his case, multiple injuries stymied his playing time and eventually earned him the label of “fragile”. Teddy remained tight lipped when Burky pressed her information about Lex and his history.
It was only after they returned to the living room that Teddy felt like something was off. She dismissed the feeling as she looked at the closed door. “So Sid?” Teddy asked casually, “He's a good boss?”
Burky's head popped up, “Oh, he's great. He took me in off the street.”
Suddenly, Teddy realized what was wrong. Her right wrist was bare. The wrist that normally held  a diamond tennis bracelet. It had been a sweet sixteen gift from her dead sister, Frankie. She looked down in the chair to see if it had slipped off there. It was nowhere to be seen. She distinctly remembered touching it earlier. She retraced her steps mentally and then kicked herself figuratively.
“So Andy?” she asked pointedly.
“Andre,” he corrected.
“Andre,” she smiled, “What do you do for Sid? I assume that you have some sort of specific role.”
Burky blinked slowly, unsure where the conversation was leading. He didn't want to bring any attention to his skill set. “Oh, I do all kinds of things.” he answered casually.
“Things like stealing bracelets from house guests?” Teddy leveled her gaze at the Swede.
“Bracelet?” he smiled, “What bracelet?”
“The one you took,” she answered calmly.
“I didn't take a bracelet,” he replied in the same manner.
“We're going this route?” Teddy got up and walked toward him with a sense of purpose, “Give me the bracelet- no harm, no foul.”
“There is no harm, no foul because I don't have the bracelet. I don’t know what you are talking about,” he stood his ground.”
“Come on Burky, this could get really ugly or you can simply hand it back to me,” Teddy attempted to speak as sweetly as possible. When he didn’t respond, she felt the anger rise up in her. “Look, you have three seconds before I scream,” her voice rose slightly, “What do you think HE is going to do when he hears it? Do you think he is going to stop to ask you questions? If you are lucky, I will be able to explain the situation before he assumes something far worse. No, when I tell him that you took the bracelet, he will just turn you upside down and shake you down. Have you ever been shaken down by a Big Rig?  I would just give it back to me and save yourself the pain, but you do you booboo”.
In the office, Sid was mid-story when Lex held up his hand. Sid stopped talking and they listened.
“Let's be reasonable,” Burky cajoled.
She stepped closer and yelled, “Give it back.”
“or you will tell your giant, badass big bird of a boyfriend,” he scoffed, “For the last time, I didn’t take your damn….”
He was interrupted as Teddy grabbed his hand and twisted his arm behind his back. Then she pushed her foot to the back of his knee, bringing him down to his knees. “Give it back to me,” she screamed as she twisted his arm tighter.
“Foz, everything okay out there,” Lex called  as he rose to his feet.
“Yeah sure,” Teddy answered breezily as she pressed harder.
Burky heard the movement and assessed the situation. “It seemed like a good idea at the time,” he thought to himself as the pain began to shoot up his arm. He began to realize that his initial plan of stealing the bracelet to get back in Sid’s good graces had not been thought through to completion. One, he thought she wouldn’t notice, or at least until they left. Two, he forgot about the big guy. Three, it was a stupid ass plan altogether.
“Alright, alright, alright,” he whined, “You have to get off of me.” She stood up slowly and adjusted her dress. Burky placed his forehead on the floor and took a deep breath in an effort to compose himself. Then he jumped up and smiled brightly. “Congratulations, Teddy,” he said with false bravado. He reached into his pocket and withdrew the five carat tennis bracelet. He placed it into his palm and presented it to her with great flourish.
It was that moment that the door opened and duo walked into the room.
“What’s going on?” Lex asked bruskly.
Teddy tilted her head, “What do you mean?”
“We heard a ruckus,” Sid answered.
Teddy and Burky exchanged a look. Teddy studied his face. His eyes implored her silently. She considered his misdeed. He tried to pull a fast one on her and failed. It was unlikely he would try it again. She tried to summon anger but he bat his puppy dog eyes at her and she smiled.
“A ruckus?” Burky repeated, “I didn’t hear a ruckus. Did you hear a ruckus, Teddy?”
“No, I didn’t hear anything, Andy,” she responded. She turned to the duo. “Can you describe the ruckus?” she added.
Sid stifled his laughter. He wasn’t sure what exactly was happening, but he knew two things - Burky had screwed up again and Teddy was covering up for him. The Swede was the equivalent of a labrador puppy on his crew. He was simultaneously entertaining and endearing with his antics. However, he frequently left messes all over that required someone to clean it up.
Lex pressed the issue slightly, “I am pretty sure I heard your voice, Teddy.“
Teddy smiled, “Oh that! My bracelet fell off. Andy here helped me find it. Didn’t you Andy?”
Andre bit his tongue. He wanted to correct her but she was doing him a solid so he let it slide. “Yes, that must have been what you heard. Poor Teddy was quite flummoxed. You should really get that clasp checked. It’s very weak in my opinion.
Lex looked back and forth between the two. He was sure of one thing- something happened and Teddy would not tell him in front of Sid. Since she seemed to have the “situation” under control, he let it slide.
“Are you almost done with your chat?” Teddy asked, desperate to end the stand-off.
Sid smiled, “We’re just about done. Burky, take Teddy down to see the River cottage.” She tilted her head in confusion and he continued, “The job does come with either a housing allowance and/or use of one of the cottages on the compound. Why don’t you go take a look at it and see it will fit your needs?”
“Oh, that sounds like a fabulous idea,” she smiled.
She held out her arm to signal Burky to lead the way. They were about ten yards outside the house before he spoke. “Why did you cover for me?” he asked.
“Snitches get stitches,” she answered quickly.
“Not here,” he retorted immediately. She gave him a side eye. “Sid has very few rules, but rule number one is that there is no violence towards women or children. They're off limits.”
Teddy nodded her head in understanding, “So why did you steal my bracelet then?”
“Temporary insanity?” he laughed. When she did not return the laugh, he added, “I wanted to remind Sid that he needs me around for my special set of skills.”
“Didn’t think that one one through, huh?” Teddy paused
“Yeah,”  he sighed, “I am not the brains of the crew obviously..”
Teddy elbowed him, “Don’t worry Big Rig is smart enough for the both of you.” They stepped inside of the cozy three bedroom cottage. Teddy walked around from room to room and tried to keep her composure. It was a far cry from their cramped studio apartment. Mentally she started decorating it with their existing furniture. When she found the back door that led to a deck overlooking the Alleghany river, she was sold.
Tumblr media
Outside the cottage, Sid approached Burky with Lex. “Where’s Teddy?” Lex asked. Burky nodded his head to indicate that she was inside. They walked in and found her peacefully enjoying the view. She turned as she sensed their presence even though her eyes were closed. Sid’s eyebrows lifted in surprise.
“Are you all done?” she asked brightly.
Sid smiled, “I think that I may have him convinced to join the crew. I think that my only obstacle is you. Will the cottage work?” He was smart enough to know who the real decision maker would be.
Teddy glanced at her boyfriend then back to the river. She folded her arms across her chest. Then she replied with a smile, “The cottage is more than adequate.” Then she turned to Lex and asked, “Can you give Mr. Crosby and me a moment? I do have some questions for him.”
His eyebrows shot up and he tilted his head, “Teddy, are you sure you want me to leave?”
‘Yes, it won’t take long. You should check out the shower to make sure that you fit,” she suggested. When he left, Sid and Teddy stood in silence for a moment.
“Mr. Crosby,” she began, “Are there any of the other guys on the crew that have a wife or girlfriend?”
“No, you are the first,” he answered, “Truthfully, I thought you were going to be a dealbreaker for me when I saw you in the living room. Turns out that I was wrong.”
“How so?” she inquired.
“You are much tougher than you appear,” he answered, “How hard did you take down Burky?”
Teddy’s mouth dropped before she smiled, “I don’t know what you are talking about.”
“Come on, you can tell me,” he encouraged, “What did he do?”
“Promise me that he won’t be punished?” she asked point blank. Sid held up his fingers in a “Scouts Honor” gesture. She nodded in understanding.
“Apparently in a fit of desperation, he lifted my bracelet from my wrist,” she answered. Sid immediately frowned and his jaw tensed. “Hey, he is part of your crew. You can’t be surprised.” Teddy walked towards the edge of the deck before turning back to face him. “Seriously, he didn’t think it through but there was no harm and no foul,” she said as she held out her bracelet.
“Back to my question,” he quizzed.
“I took him down hard enough to get my message through,” she stared at him defiantly, “he won’t try it again - at least not with me.”
Sid smiled, “You way tougher than I thought you were.”
“I used to not be tough, but Lex taught me,” she said out loud, “He turned me from a sheltered rich girl into someone with street smarts.”
“I’d love to hear how that happened,” he replied.
“Story for another time,” she sighed. She steeled herself. Then she blurted out, “Mr. Crosby, what kind of business is this? I am not naive enough to believe that this is a completely legitimate operation, but I need to know just how far across the line will this job take Jamie?” She was careful to use his proper name.
“Wow, you've got nerves of steel to ask me that,” Sid balked.
For a moment, Teddy doubted herself but she pushed through it, “Lex,” she stopped herself, “I mean Jamie is more than capable to do whatever this job requires. I know that he has had to make ethically gray choices in the past.” She paused and considered shutting up but her protective nature spurred her on. “But he is a man of honor. He is not mean or malicious. I don’t want him to be  in a position where he would have to compromise his principles and character.” She took a deep breath, “I don't want to lose the man I love to a world of darkness.”
Sid studied her for a moment. If there had been any doubt left about Oleksiak, she had removed it. Anyone who could inspire such gumption and loyalty was a person he wanted on his crew. Finally Sid spoke, “I won’t ask him to do that. I will not lie. We break the law on occasion.” She gave him a side eye. “Okay, we break the law a lot, but we do have a code that we follow.”
“Will he have to hurt people?” she asked brazenly.
“Yes, but nobody gets hurt that doesn’t deserve to be hurt,” he countered.
“And women and children are off limits?” she asked to get confirmation of Burky’s remark.
“They are off limits and anyone who breaks that rule gets hurt,” Sid answered.
“Well, then I think you have answered my questions,” she stated.
“Good,” he smiled, “I’ll send Big Rig in so you can make your decision.”
Once Sid and Burky had left the cottage, Lex came back out to the deck. He walked up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist and bent down to place his chin on her shoulder. “What are you thinking, Foz?” he asked quietly.
“I am thinking that I want to know how the interview went. Do you like him? Does he like you? What does the job entail?” she leaned her body weight back and turned her head to face him. He took her hand and led her to the chaise lounge. He removed his jacket and got comfortable. Then he pulled her on top of his massive body.
“Well, after the guns were put away, it went well,” he started.
“Guns? What the hell, Lex!” she shouted.
He smiled, “We sized each other up so to speak”
“And?” she asked.
“And there is a reason that he is Sidney Fucking Crosby and runs all of Pennsylvania and half of NYC. He’s smart, shrewd and has balls of steel,” he answered. She rested her head on his chest as he went on to explain the job. She could hear the excitement in his voice. She could also hear how he was trying to tamper it down. He knew that she would allow his excitement to cloud her judgment and she knew that he knew it.
“So did he offer you the job?” she asked.
“Yeah,” he tried to answer casually.
“What’s the hold up then?” she joked.
“The money,” he answered. He continued when she squinted in confusion, “He said that I can name my price. Foz, I have no idea on what to ask for. This job is so far out of my league. I just don’t know.” His voice trailed off.
“Hey,” she interjected, “This is not out of your league. He basically offered you a job on the spot for a reason. Don’t doubt yourself, Jamieson.”
“Okay boss,” he tickled her side.
Suddenly an idea hit and she dug out her phone. She started texting Steve, the former Secret Service agent, who headed her father’s security team.

Teddy gulped when she read the last line.
“What?” Lex asked as his eyes filled with tears.
She handed the phone to Lex who read over the messages. “Daddio never changed the code,” she whispered, “so I could go back if I needed to.”
“Foz,” he whispered, “If you want to stay in Dallas, we can stay in Dallas. I’ll find a way to make more money.”
Her eyes flashed up at him, “You know I don’t give a shit about the money. It’s never been about the money.” He closed his eyes and rubbed his face. “Listen to me Jamieson Oleksiak. I chose you. I chose you and I will choose you over and over again,” she spoke urgently. “This is a fresh start for us and we’re not going to throw it away for a possibility,” she said firmly, “They made their choice and nothing in those texts changes that.”
“But Foz, they’re your family,” he countered.
“No, you are my family. They threw me away when they couldn’t control me” she protested, “Would you throw me away?
He recoiled in horror, “Never.
“It’s you and me forever.” she began reciting the familiar words.
“No matter what” he joined in reciting their motto.
“Whatever it takes,” she finished.
“So we have a decision made?” he smiled.
“Let’s move to Pittsburgh,” she answered.
“Foz, I didn’t even ask about the cottage,” he realized, “Do you like it?”
“It needs a little TLC, but I like it,” she assured him, “Factor in redecorating in your salary request.”
They spent a few more minutes in silence before he nudged them up. After a few minutes to take measurements, they strolled hand in hand back to the main house. Teddy started to find a seat in the living room as Lex went to find Sid. However, he kept a firm grip on her hand. Together they knocked on the door and entered the office together.
“So what’s the verdict?” Sid asked.
“We’re in for the right price,” Lex answered. He took a deep breath, “500K should do it.”
“Okay,” the Canadian crime boss answered without pausing, “When can you start?”
“Wait,” Teddy interjected. Sid turned to her, “And a reno budget for the cottage.”
Sid blinked and then smiled, “Welcome to the family. Let’s go celebrate.”
Tumblr media
The crew sat in the private dining of Ciliegia, Sid’s preferred Italian restaurant. The usually all male crew felt invigorated by the presence of a woman. There was a sly game of one-up manship as they vied for Teddy’s attention. It had not taken them long to realize that the key to getting into the new boss’s good graces was getting into HER good graces.
After much prodding from Sid, Teddy finally spilled the beans on Burky’s failed attempt to steal her bracelet.
“I lifted it without you noticing,” Burky protested as he blushed, “At least give me credit for that.”
“Yes, Andy,” she teased, “You did do that. Now what you were going to do with it once you had it, I have no idea.”
“Andre… if you are not going to call me Burky, call me Andre,” he begged.
“Why would I do that, Andy?” Teddy answered, “I think you should be glad that this is the only punishment I am going to dole out.” Lex watched with a bemused smile as the two bantered.
Later, Sid asked the server to send his compliments to the chef for the delicious meal. They were surprised when the fiery redhead walked into the room. She wiped her hands on her apron as she approached Sid at the head of the table.  He stared at her, suddenly unable to speak. Startled glances were exchanged among the group before Lex spoke up to pass along the praise. The chef, Lizzie, nodded her head as she listened but her eyes were transfixed on the brunette Canadian. When she stumbled out of the room as she kept her gaze in his direction, Teddy and Lex shared a look.
As they walked out to go their separate ways, Sid nudged Lex, “I am pretty sure I just met my future wife.”
Lex stopped suddenly, “Don’t you think that you should know her name first?”
“I know her name,” Sid corrected, “It’s Mrs. Crosby.”
Lex laughed out loud, “Those redheads, I’ll tell you.” He glanced over at Teddy who was busy exchanging phone numbers, instagrams and snapchats with Seggy and Burky. “They’ll snatch your soul out of your body in an instant and never give it back,” he said with a smile. She turned to him and flashed a smile that melted his heart.
Lex pulled Teddy in a tight hug. “I lied earlier today, Foz” he whispered as he kissed the top of her head.
“You did?” she looked up into his eyes, “about what?”
“I said that I am the only criminal in this relationship,” he smiled as he spoke, “That’s not true.”
“I’m a criminal now?” she playfully pouted, “Fine - I’ll get the suit cleaned and returned to Daddio’s closet. No harm, no foul.”
“I’m not talking about that, Foz,” he kissed her forehead.
“Then how am I a criminal?” she poked his rock hard abs.
“You stole my heart, just like a seasoned professional,” he bent down to kiss her gently, “Much better than the Swede.”
“Oh,” she returned his kiss, “In my defense, you stole mine first.”
“Well, I am not giving it back,” he lifted her up to kiss her more deeply.
“Me either,” she wrapped her arms around his neck, “I am yours forever. No takeback and no exchanges.”
“I wouldn’t think of it,” he grinned as he carried her out to their waiting car, “I wouldn’t think of it.”

*****
Carmen Valez was 19 and stupid when she first met Tyler Seguin.
Working at a tattoo shop to make extra money while trying to put herself through college, she was cleaning up from her boss’s last scheduled appointment of the night when in came a group of rowdy guys. It wasn’t the first time a group of drunk guys came in looking for a tattoo. She had listened as her boss Ken came out and did his spiel and she heard laughter and some agreements so they couldn’t have been that drunk because her boss would’ve put up more of a fight.
When she first saw Tyler, she recognized him immediately. Growing up in Boston in a family of hockey lovers, how could she not recognize the rookie who had just won the Stanley Cup? As she turned the corner even more, she saw Brad Marchand and all she could think about was that she couldn't wait to tell her brothers and dad about this.
Ken introduced her to the guys and asked her if she could set up some things. She waved in greeting and nodded, going in the back to gather the supplies needed. She tried to stifle a yawn as she re-sterilized the needles, but it didn’t work.
“Long night?”
She whipped around to see Tyler peeking in behind a curtain. “Are you looking for something?”
“The bathroom. But I think I found something much better.”
She couldn’t help but roll her eyes, “Go to the end of the hall and it’s on your right.”
“Thanks,” he tilted his head to the side. “Are you the one who drew those flower designs that are hanging up in the hall?”
“I am. Ken asked me to draw some things so the shop wasn’t only filled with his designs.”
“You tattoo as well?”
“Oh, no way. That’s all Ken.” She shrugged. “I’ve designed some, but never physically tattooed them on someone. My hands are too shaky.”
“They’re beautiful.”
“Thank you.”
He hummed and then went on his way to the bathroom as she finished gathering the supplies and went outside with them.
Ken became the guy Tyler kept coming back to for his tattoos so she got to know him and despite his reputation as a partier and womanizer, she found him endearing, often making conversation with him during his longer sessions while Ken was working on him on the table and she was doing schoolwork or doodling in the front.
It was a weird friendship because Tyler was rarely stationary in Boston and Carmen was attending Northeastern University and they really didn’t mix in any of the same circles but they kept coming back to each other. Their friendship developed to the point where he would come by on his nights off to her off-campus apartment with takeout and they would flick on a movie. He told her about his insecurities of having such a fantastic rookie year and then never amounting to anything else and she told him about her confusions of what she actually wanted to do with her communications degree. He talked about how hooking up with girls was easier than seeing if someone was only using him for his image and she talked about her view on relationships and how long distance never works.
He would invite her to games and she’d come along sometimes, dragging her best friend along with her to TD Garden. She knew all about his lifestyle and how he’d hook up with girls left and right but when she was with him, she always only saw a 20 something year old boy who was thrust into stardom really quickly and who was fucking up like anybody else his age but being overly criticized for it because of his job. She didn’t really see him as anything more than a friend, truly. She could admit easily that he was objectively attractive and probably too charming for his own good, but she saw him as one of her dearest friends more than anything.
(Even if she had the slightest feeling that she wanted to be more during those years, heart fluttering when he texted her to make sure she got home safe after late nights or winking at her and throwing her a puck at one of his games, causing her to grin like a middle school girl with a crush, she always pushed it away)
So when she was in the Cape celebrating the Fourth and news broke out that the Bruins had traded him to Dallas, she felt her heart drop. She ventured to a quieter area away from the celebrations and dialed his number. She wasn’t sure if he’d want to talk, but she couldn’t not call him to see if he was okay.
From the sniffling on his end, despite what he said, she knew he wasn’t okay, and told him that when she was back in the city, she’d come around to his place with food, wine and hugs.
The next week, when he opened the door, she dropped everything and just embraced him, holding him for several minutes as she tried to keep her tears in. She pulled away and just apologized for bringing some cheap rose that her roommate left at her apartment a couple of months ago instead of an actual nice bottle and he just laughed. She set up food from their favorite takeout place and they automatically went through all of these motions but with a sad feeling in the air. This night was going to be the last one of these, before he went back home the following weekend to Canada to spend the rest of his off season there and then head to Dallas. His apartment was already bare, having gotten started on moving out as soon as he had gotten the call.
She tried so, so hard not to cry as they put on Great British Bake Off and talked and somehow they started reflecting on numerous random moments and memories they had shared the last three years and they were both laughing as he complained about her almost spilling her wine like usual and she just threw her napkin at him. For the first time, he’s the one who splashed his wine on her t-shirt and he hiccuped and apologized and offered a shirt for her to change into and she waved him off, a blush on her cheeks either from the alcohol or from his proximity or both.
At one point, they ended up on the floor cuddling with his dogs and he asked how they even ended up there and she snorted, referencing the two bottles of rose they had downed and he had snorted and flashed her a stunning smile and her heart cracked a bit more.
They were both dozing off on the couch — his arm thrown over her as she cuddled into his chest because they both had always been touchy when they were drunk — when he said something that would forever plague her memory.
“I should’ve asked you to be mine.”
She blinked and shot up, looking down at him. “What?”
“I-I should’ve just asked you on a date. You could’ve been mine this whole time.”
“Tyler. You can’t say shit like that if you don’t mean it.”
“What makes you think I don’t mean it, Car?” He shot back, sitting up. “I know I’m drunk and I know I’m about to leave this city and maybe never see you again but of course I mean it.”
She squeezed her eyes shut as the tears fell. “Tyler.”
“I don’t regret a single moment of our friendship. I just regret that I never told you how I felt until it was too late.”
“You’re drunk. You don’t know what you’re saying.”
“Stop trying to discount my words because I’m drunk,” he said sternly. “I love you as a friend, of course, but I-I love you as more too. For awhile now, I think. And it’s okay if you don’t feel the same and again, I’m the dumbest guy alive for bringing this up tonight of all nights but I just…I had to tell you before I left.”
She put her head in her heads and started crying softly. “I love you too,” she admitted through her tears. “I-I just never said anything because I didn’t think you were looking for more. Jesus, I literally know two of the girls you’ve hooked up with the past year. Do you know how annoying and gross it is to hear about your performance in bed while I’m trying to cram last minute for an exam?”
He chuckled and she looked at him again and saw that there were tears running down his cheeks as well. “We’re both stupid, aren’t we?”
“We are.”
He looked up at the ceiling with quivering lips. “I’m not going to ask you for more, no matter how much I want to.”
She nodded vehemently and cupped his face with both her hands, wanting so bad to kiss his lips and using every part of her strength not to. “You’re going to be amazing in Dallas.” She brushed a falling tear and tried to give him a reassuring smile as his top lip quivered. “You’re going to become a lover of the heat and look amazing in green and start liking country music and I’m going to make fun of you for all of it.”
“But you’re not gonna be there.”
She swallowed with a small shrug. “Who knows? Maybe a job in Dallas will open up after I graduate.”
“You wouldn’t take it. I wouldn’t let you. Your heart belongs to the Northeast.”
“You’re not the boss of me,” she weakly protested, slapping his arm and making him chuckle.
But he was right. And she hated that he was right.
She watched his eyes flit to her lips and she hoped that he was also fighting the urge as he placed a kiss on her forehead, which somehow was probably worse than if he had just kissed her.
“I’m going to miss you so much.” He said, voice cracking at the edges.
She squeezed her eyes shut, not being able to say it back because she didn’t want to completely break down. “Let’s get some sleep.”
That last night, they fell asleep on the couch like they had done numerous times before and he sent her off in the morning like he had done numerous times before, except this time she held onto him as tight as she could. Maybe if she kept hugging him, he wouldn’t have to go.
But he had to. And he did.
Carmen Valez was 22 when she saw Tyler Seguin again.
After graduation, she had gotten a job in New York, and he was in town playing the Rangers. They had gone out to dinner and then to a bar for drinks and things fell back into place as they leaned in close to each other the whole night and she kissed him, bringing him back to her apartment. She woke up with marks on her collarbone and memories of his lips all over her body and cursed herself as she watched him peacefully sleep next to her because she was still in love with him.
He had woken up with a soft but sad smile. “Has your view on long distance relationships changed?”
She bit her lip, shaking her head. “I’m sorry.”
He swallowed. “Don’t be. It’s not your fault you’re the easiest person to fall in love with. Can I ask one thing though?”
“Of course.”
“If your view does change, give me a call?”
“Tyler-”
“I’m serious. Whether it’s 10 days or 10 years from now, call me.”
A tear had slipped out from her eyes when he pulled her into his chest, placing a kiss on her forehead.
Carmen Valez was 27 when she realized her view on long distance changed. And the first person she thought of was Tyler Seguin.
They had kept in touch very sporadically throughout the years over text and had tried to meet up everytime he came to New York to play, but the contact became less and less as the years went on. She tried to pretend it didn’t hurt. She had no right to be hurt. He could live his life however he wanted.
She was going down to Dallas for one of her coworker’s weddings and was tempted to call Tyler to see if he was around — for the first time, she’d be where he was instead of the other way around — but she didn’t bother because it was the off season and she figured he was home in Canada.
As she walked into the venue, she was shocked to see Tyler speaking to the bride’s grandma. She couldn’t help but smile at how gentle he was, soft smile on his face as he tucked the grandma’s hand into the crook of his elbow while leading her to her seat. He looked so handsome in his gray suit.
Gosh, he’s changed since they met in that tattoo parlor in Boston. They both have. But something about his smile makes her realize that almost nothing has changed at all.
When he sees her, she swears he lights up and her stomach flutters. She notices quickly that he’s a groomsman, if his matching suit with a couple of the other ushers indicates anything. He strolls up to her with his signature charming smile and she can’t help but roll her eyes.
“Funny seeing you here.”
She scoffs, before stepping forward and hugging him tightly. “Hey Ty.”
“Hi Car.” He turns to her coworker with a stunning smile. “And hello Car’s friend. I’m Tyler. It’s nice to meet you.”
“Nice to meet you too. I’m Samantha. How do you two know each other?”
She exchanges a look with him, because it’s a long story. But she settles with, “Ran into him when he played in Boston and I went to college there, and he didn’t leave me alone.” The three of them laugh.
“I’m assuming you both are here for the bride?”
“We are.”
He offers an arm to the both of them. “Follow me, ladies.” Carmen can tell Samantha is charmed as she rolls her eyes but grabs the crook of his elbow anyways.
After he escorts them to their seats, he has to bolt and just bids them farewell with a kiss on Carmen’s cheek and a promise to save her a dance later before ducking out of the church, presumably to help out with some behind the scenes stuff.
As soon as he’s out of earshot, Samantha gives her a skeptical look. “We’ve been working together for two years and you failed to tell me that you know Tyler Seguin? You know I grew up a Stars fan.”
“It’s never come up.”
“Fair.” She blinks, looking for something in her coworker’s face. “You love him, don’t you?”
“What? No, of course-”
“Nice try. If your heart eyes hadn’t given you away, it was your response just now. You’ve always been a bad liar. What’s the story between you two?”
She sighs, staring at the front of the church at nothing in particular. “We met when I worked at a tattoo parlor in college and he came in and we became really good friends. He got traded to Dallas and then told me loved me on his last night in the city. Knew I didn’t believe in long distance at the time so didn’t ask for more. We slept together around a year later. My stance on long distance hadn’t changed. We’ve seen each other sporadically when I’m free and he’s in New York for a game, but not much recently.”
Samantha whistles. “Sounds like a lot.”
Carmen just snorts. She has no idea.
“So you still love him.”
Carmen just sighs.
“I think he still might love you too.”
Carmen snorts, smoothing down her dress. “How could you possibly know that? You met him for maybe two minutes.”
“Maybe it’s the fact that we’re at a wedding and this could be a scene from a Hallmark movie, but I’m also pretty sure he also had heart eyes when he saw you.”
Carmen just hums, and Samantha drops it, as they shift to other safer topics.
The ceremony is stunning and the bride is gorgeous and the groom is beaming, yet besides when the bride walked down the aisle, she can’t tear her eyes away from Tyler, standing at the front with a constant happy look on his face. As he walked down with an accompanying bridesmaid on his arm, he caught her eye and shot her a sly wink and she knows she blushed and she didn’t even try to hide it.
The next time she caught him was well into the reception, after dinner had been eaten and the dance floor was starting to open up. She had just finished her drink before she felt a tap on her shoulder, looking up to see Tyler with an outstretched hand.
“Dance with me?”
Without giving a verbal answer, she takes his hand and lets him lead her to the dance floor. She wraps her arms around his neck as his hands settle on her waist.
“You didn’t reach out to tell me you were gonna be in town.”
“I figured you’d be in Canada for the off-season.”
He hums, but he doesn’t buy the excuse. To be fair, she doesn’t either. “It’s really good to see you, Car.” He says, and she might be imagining him pulling her closer. “You look beautiful.”
“So do you.”
He smirks and she feels like she’s 19 again. “I look beautiful?”
She rolls her eyes. “You do.” She says softly. “How have you been?”
And then they start catching up, and it’s so damn easy, as the conversation flows from hockey to her advertising job to their memories in Boston to their mutual friends who just got married to their families and it feels like he’s still on the Bruins and she’s still at Northeastern. At some point, they migrate from the dance floor to the empty-ish open bar and they’re still talking and she realizes how much she’s missed having him in his life.
When she voices that out loud, his beaming smile dims the slightest. “God, I’ve missed you so much. Is this what I’ve been missing out on?”
“Don’t even start, Seguin.”
“What?”
“Blaming yourself or whatever you’re about to do. If we’re gonna blame someone, it’s all on me.”
Their first seconds of silence fall between them. “How has that been, by the way? You got a lucky guy back in New York waiting for you?”
She snorts. “Absolutely not. You? I hope I didn’t steal you away from a date or something.”
“Nah. No one for me.”
“Not at all?”
“None who have meant as much to me as you.”
She feels like her heart’s been sucker punched. Typical Tyler Seguin. Always going in for the kill.
She switches topics. “I-I watched your Stanley Cup playoff run. You played really well. I’m sorry it wasn’t the result you guys wanted.”
“You watch my games?”
She swallows. Busted. “I try to whenever I can, even though I still feel like I’m betraying my Bruins when I do.”
He laughs, still a bit shocked. “I’m sure they’d forgive you. I was a Bruin, after all.”
She downs her drink and asks the bartender for a water. “I missed you,” she says quietly once the bartender is out of earshot. “And I always loved watching you play. Figured it was the next best thing.”
“You could’ve called. Or texted. I would’ve answered.”
She shakes her head. “That would’ve been unfair to you, especially with how I left things off.”
He chuckles, albeit sadly. “Carmen. I’m kinda weak when it comes to you. Always have been.”
She squeezes her eyes shut, a tear falling as she feels Tyler place a warm hand on her thigh over her maroon dress. “You give me way too much power.”
“I don’t think I could ever give you what you deserve, no matter how hard I try.”
Carmen wipes the tear away with a small smile. She pokes his chest. “How do you come up with this shit?”
He laughs, taking a sip of his beer, before his face settles into a more serious expression. “Can I ask you two questions, though? No bullshit. Just the truth.”
“Yeah, of course.”
“Do you still love me?”
She nods at an embarrassingly fast pace.
He swallows. “Oh.”
She picks at her nails, suddenly unsure. “D-Do you still love me? It’s-it’s totally okay if you don’t. I mean, I wouldn’t expect you to. It’s been years and we don’t really see each other much anymore and-”
“Of course I still love you.” She whips her head up to stare at him in shock. He runs a hand through his hair with a huff.
She puts her hand over his that’s still resting on his thigh and interlaces their fingers together. “What’s your second question?”
“Do you still not believe in long distance?”
“I’ve been thinking…I think I’m open to trying it.”
His eyes flash in surprise as his lips turn up into a hopeful smile. “Really? You’re not fucking with me?”
“Since when have I ever lied to you, Ty?”
“Can I have a third question? And maybe a fourth?”
She rolls her eyes fondly, squealing a bit as he brings her stool even closer to him. “Was that it?”
“Smartass.” She nods at him to ask. “Would you want to try? With me?”
She swallows. “Yes.” She thinks he physically lights up, like a lightbulb with a new battery, but she holds a hand up. “But Tyler, things have changed. We’ve changed. Is this…is this really what you want? Am I really who you want?”
“I left Boston eight years ago in love with you. Here I am, eight years later in Dallas, still in love with you. Probably more in love with you, actually, which I didn’t think was possible.” He grabs her hands and lifts them to his lips to kiss her knuckles. “When do you head back to New York?”
She blinks at the abrupt change of subject. “Um, I’m actually in Dallas for another week for a work conference. So not until next Sunday.”
He grins. “Stay at mine then. Please.”
“Tyler-”
“I’ll have to head back to Canada for a couple weeks for things I can’t reschedule, but then, if you let me, I’d love to come to New York and spend some time with you until I have to come back to Dallas for pre-season.”
“Tyler, that’s…how are you so confident and sure about all of this?”
“Because it’s you,” he says. “And I love you. I’m not wasting this chance that you’ve given me.”
She bites her lip, trying to take it all in. “I’m going to need to grab my stuff from the hotel tonight.”
“Deal. I’ve only had like, two beers in the last three hours anyways. I can drive you.”
“You know that I’m not just going to…drop everything to come to Dallas, right? My job and my life is all in New York.”
“I’d be a dumbass to expect that. Your heart belongs to the Northeast.”
She smiles, momentarily flashing back to the last time he said those exact same words and how similar and different they are now. She leans forward and kisses him sweetly, like he’s coming home from a game, like she’s in the middle of cooking dinner, like they’ve been doing this all their lives. She then pulls him up and drags him back to the dance floor.
“Would you have called me?”
“I don’t know,” she whispers into his chest, immediately knowing what he’s referencing. Eight years later and she still remembers that night like it was yesterday. “What if you were in a relationship or something? That would’ve been unfair to everyone.”
“I wouldn’t have been.”
“You don’t know that.”
“I do. Because I’ve always loved you. At this point, I’m pretty sure that I always will.”
“Thank you,” she whispers. And as he presses a loving kiss on her forehead, she hopes he understands what she’s trying to thank him for — for coming into that tattoo shop all those years ago, for all the nights and memories in Boston that involved takeout and Netflix and endless fits of laughter, for always believing in her, for waiting for her and being understanding even when she broke his heart.
For loving her.
“By the way,” Tyler says as he twirls her around, hands immediately attaching to her waist once she’s facing him again. “I always loved you in maroon.”

Okay updates on my hockey ~descent~
I've been reading a bit of bennguin and that was pretty good, I've been looking at some vids and I swear when Tyler got into a fight after someone took a cheap shot at Jamie 😭 like why do I care so much about that?? Anyway I have also just finished reading closed fracture by lightgetsin and it was so lovely <3 so looking for some more recs for sidgeno if you have them! (also why are there (((( all over the place sometimes? I've seen a few in fics and in tweets?) I do really like the Penguins logo and jerseys so maybe I'll follow them closer when things get moving a bit more, its the off season now right? Some other ships I'm a fan of is sterek from teen wolf, Sirius/Remus from hp, Macdennis from iasip, steve/bucky - just pretty basic ones lel 😬
oooooh i'm so excited to answer this okay okay. thank you for the update i love this!
tyler seguin is everyone's favorite slutty bisexual. go bananas in his tag (just #tyler seguin or #seguin) on tumblr and you'll find some great shit. that ship doesn't get as much attention anymore bc benn isn't fandom's favorite. i don't know enough about the stars to know all the reasons, but he did a very dirty and unneccessary hit on the vegas golden knights captain in the playoffs this year and that was enough to make me not like him. i can rec some stars blogs if you want - they are a great team with a solid fandom presence and a lot of young amazing players. and they have seggy :)
um, if you love boys being overprotective on the ice, i can definitely give you some pens moments but ALSO you should look into tknp (travis konecny/nolan patrick). i think i have a #protective tk tag on here you can browse bc the boy goes batshit insane anytime someone touches his boy. one of the big reasons a lot of us fell for that ship. you don't have to be a flyers fan to love them; tk is a fandom darling bc he's so tiny and fighty and wonderful.
also, any decent player is very protective of their goalie, so if you love that dynamic, you might enjoy some defenseman/goalie pairings or there's just some fun clips and gifs out there. i'll try to reblog some stuff for you. give my poor followers a break from the rwrb posting and tzp thirst 😂
DON'T GET ME STARTED ON SIDGENO OH GOD. okay i'll reblog a few posts for them because the things they say about each other are just. alright. you're in love. we get it. okay.
King and Lionheart is the fic that made me fall for sidgeno. There is an excellent podfic available as well.
I could give you a billion sidgeno recs and writers and blogs to follow. What kind of fic do you like? Fluff? Whump? PWP? Kink? ABO? Monsterfuckery? Sidgeno is the most popular hockey rpf ship at least by numbers on ao3; we got it all, baby! I read a lot of angst and porn, so I don't want to throw a bunch of recs at you without knowing what you like :)
((( and )))))))) are russian smileys... so you're probably reading Geno texting. So instead of texting (or tweeting - you can see these in some of his old tweets): i'll be there soon :) he would text i'll be there soon )))
we ARE in the offseason but hockey comes back (relatively) soon. preseason games (exhibition games that don't count towards playoff standings) start at the end of september and the season kicks off in October. The Penguins season opener is vs the Chicago Blackhawks which should be a VERY fun game to watch, bc Chicago drafted Connor Bedard this year, one of the best hockey prospects since Sid himself. Bedard is insanely talented and we are all very eager to see how he does in the NHL. Sid was Bedard's favorite player growing up (he is so many players' favorite player growing up) and they've met and they are both very sweet boys and anyway it will be an interesting game.
Stucky was my first ship since really diving into fandom and I spent a ton of time in Teen Wolf fandom! There's a ton of teen wolf on my ao3, mostly sterek, but i mostly write hockey these days.
feel free to keep sending me questions! there's a lot to learn when you first dive into hockey but i love the sport and love this fandom!!

hiya! i'm your summer fic exchange writer anon :)
before i get to writing, there are some questions i'd like to ask beforehand regarding your fic 😄
would you like your fic to be reader insert or OC?
what pronouns would you like for me to use while writing your fic?
as per the info i received, i saw that you'd prefer a fic with fluff, hurt/comfort, angst - both resolved with a happy ending and unresolved. is there a specific plot/trope you'd like for your fic?
I also was informed that the players you'd like to read for are Tyler Seguin, Mat Barzal, William Nylander, Anthony Cirelli, anyone on the Carolina Hurricanes, Nico Hischier, Mitch Marner, and Jack Hughes [please correct me if I missed anyone!] is there a specific player you'd like for me to focus on?
i look forward to interact with you throughout the writing process!
Hello! I’m super excited for this and sorry if this took a bit long I was on a camping trip with a few of my friends and didn’t see this notification.
• I don’t really have a preference for any. Whatever makes it easier for you to write with.
• She/Her, but really any pronouns are okay!
• Yes that’s correct. All I ask is something along the lines of (cheating and Reader/OC finds out ) and surprise me with a happy ending or unresolved one!
• Andrei Svechnikov! If you don’t know much about the Canes then Mat Barzal! I’m not picky at all. Whoever you write for I’d enjoy either way.
Sorry if there’s not a lot of information. I like everything to be like a surprise for me and I always want writers to let their imagination show in some cases (such as this one)! If you need a better plot concept then I’ll gladly provide it!
Thank you so much <3

🏜️ 🐇 🍄 🐝
- @comphy-and-cozy
writer truth and dare ask game!!
🏜️: what's your favorite type of comment to receive on your work?
any, haha! but in reality, i love when i get the "i don't even go here" comments because it means that my writing was enough to at least convince you to read a story about someone that you don't regularly seek out. it's pretty cool to me!
🐇: do you prefer writing original characters, reader inserts, or a mix of both?
i used to be reader insert only because i often get too caught up in world-building with OC fics that i don't actually write the plot. but i've really enjoyed OC's because there is just so much more that you can fit in so nowadays, it's both! [although i still occasionally get caught up in world building ]
🍄: share a head canon for one of your favorite ships or pairings
we'll go with Abigail and Matt for this ask (because I'm also very excited to get back to them come May). i love thinking that for their wedding, they have a little bit of an argument on what to do for their first dance. Matt would love to learn some choreography, maybe even a lift or something, because Abby's a dancer and that is such an important part of her that he wants to 'honor' it. however, Abigail doesn't want to do any choreography because she is a dancer. she already has to memorize multiple dances for her job so for their wedding, she would like to relax and not worry about steps. (they compromise on learning the waltz box step so they are doing more than swaying + an easy romantic dip for the ending pose)
🐝: tag your biggest supporter(s) and say one nice thing about them
oh there is so many of them!! and for that reason we'll stick this under a read more!
@texanstarslove one of the first people i followed thinking "oh my god they are so much cooler than me" but now someone i consider a great friend!! best person to scream about Tyler Seguin with - for both fluff and smut reasons.
@fallinallincurls a winter fic exchange connected us and i couldn't be more thankful!! always reblogs my writing and adds the sweetest comments!! so superbly supportive!
@comphy-and-cozy C, you know you're in here! best person to send depraved thoughts to because you'll hit me with even more depravity (and we all need someone like that). also, just amazingly gifted at creating worlds and universes that i get completely entranced in!
@smileysvech insanely talented human who has been responsible for planting the coolest fic ideas in my head with her moodboards. Prince Andrei would probably not exist without you!
@wyattjohnston backbone of hockeyblr, i swear! amazing writer, amazing person, and the person that brings so many people together and encourages so much content making & sharing with her fic exchanges!
@laurenairay umm, sunshine incarnate!! one of the most active people in messages and askboxes for no other reason than to spread cheer and well wishes! sweetest bean in the bunch!!
i'm sure i'm missing some amazing peeps but that doesn't mean that i love them any less! there's is an abundance of love to share here at senditcolton!! 🤍🤍🤍

Tumblr media
❪ ⠀ 〤 ⠀ ─── hey! i’m isa, 22, living in the GMT timezone. i’m here to connect with fellow creative souls for 1x1 on tumblr or discord (whatever is easier for you!) a few things about me: i’m obsessed with storytelling, an avid twitch streamer for fun, a music lover, and a sucker for all things mystery. ❫
Tumblr media
FACECLAIMS. ❄ WANTED OPP. ❄ WANTED PLOTS.
Tumblr media
i’m open to writing about pretty much anything—angst, fluff, drama, you name it! i also enjoy exploring NSFW content if it fits naturally within the plot and enhances the story. because of that, i prefer to write with partners who are 21+ to ensure everyone is comfortable and on the same page. under the read more, i’ve listed the people i enjoy writing as. this includes characters/people i’ve developed or have a special connection with. if someone’s name is on the list, chances are i’m open to exploring creative stories with them. feel free to reach out if you have any questions or ideas—we can brainstorm together.
isabela merced as aza holmes (turtles all the way down). felix mallard as davis pickett jr. (turtles all the way down). spike fearn as bjorn (alien: romulus). cailee spaeny as rain carradine (alien: romulus). isabela merced as anya corazón (madame web). dulce maria as roberta pardo (rebelde). alfonso herrera as miguel arango (rebelde). christopher von uckermann as diego bustamante (rebelde). anahí portilla as mia colucci (rebelde).
〤 ⠀ ─── isabela merced as allana moraes. — allana was curious and outspoken, never afraid to ask hard questions or challenge authority. this trait often got her into trouble as a child but later became the foundation for her career as a journalist. she's fiercely intelligent, determined, and unyielding in her pursuit of justice. she has a natural charisma that helps her win over sources, but her bluntness and refusal to compromise often rub people the wrong way. beneath her tough exterior, she’s deeply empathetic and driven by a desire to make the world a better place.
〤 ⠀ ─── jenna ortega as gabriela medina. — rebellious and fearless, she doesn’t hold back her words or actions when she believes in something. impulsive and driven by emotion, she follows her heart without hesitation, often finding herself in complicated situations, but always managing to get out of them with creativity and determination. her strong personality makes her a natural leader, even if it means clashing with authority or opposing views.
〤 ⠀ ─── tyler seguin as logan bennett. — he is the kind of man people notice but can never quite figure out. tall and lean, with dark, piercing eyes that seem to see through you, he moves through life with a quiet confidence. he’s the owner of eclipse ink, a tattoo studio tucked into a side alley of the city’s artistic district. the shop has no flashy sign, only a sleek black door with a crescent moon etched into the glass. those who venture inside know they’ve found something special. logan has a reputation for creating tattoos that feel like more than just art—they seem to hold stories, secrets, and sometimes even healing. but logan himself remains a mystery. he’s not the type to talk about his past, and those who ask get little more than a cryptic smirk or a deflection. rumors swirl around him: some say he was once part of a biker gang, others think he’s running from something—or someone.
〤 ⠀ ─── andrei iosivas as luca kozlov. — the charming heir to a billionaire empire, lives a double life. while he’s the golden boy at university, he secretly runs an onlyfans account under the alias kai romanov, not for money but for freedom. his father, viktor, a controlling mogul obsessed with the family’s spotless image, would never forgive such a scandal. if viktor ever found out, it would shatter their relationship, destroy nikolai’s future, and tarnish the kozlov name forever.
〤 ⠀ ─── charles leclerc as lucas beaumont. — intelligent, driven, and deeply introspective. while he may appear calm and composed on the outside, there’s a storm of ideas and insecurities within him. he is highly empathetic, with a genuine interest in improving people’s lives through technology. however, his drive for success sometimes causes him to push himself to the point of burnout, and his fear of failure often isolates him. despite this, lucas values authentic connections and strives to live in a way that aligns with his values.
〤 ⠀ ─── mat barzal (tbd).
〤 ⠀ ─── callum turner (tbd).
〤 ⠀ ─── tom holland as finn brooks. — finn grew up in a working-class neighborhood, the eldest of three siblings. his father was a mechanic, and his mother worked as a nurse at a local clinic. from a young age, finn admired his mother’s compassion and dedication to helping others, often watching her comfort patients in ways that went beyond medical care. inspired by her, finn decided he wanted to pursue a career in medicine. he is compassionate, resourceful, and deeply empathetic. he approaches his work with humility and a willingness to learn, earning the respect of colleagues and patients alike. outside of the hospital, finn is charming and down-to-earth, though he often neglects his own well-being in his pursuit of excellence. his sense of humor and optimism help him cope with the emotional demands of his job, but he secretly fears that he might burn out if he doesn’t find a balance.
〤 ⠀ ─── jeon jungkook as zane seo. — he was born into a world of power, wealth, and indulgence. his father, a ruthless businessman with a commanding presence, owns one of the most successful and controversial strip club chains in the city. from a young age, zane was exposed to the darker side of luxury, growing up amidst the haze of neon lights, late-night parties, and whispers of illicit dealings. zane gets what he wants—period. he doesn’t take no for an answer and is always a step ahead, manipulating situations and people to suit his desires. whether it’s winning over a business deal, charming someone into his bed, or getting the upper hand in a confrontation, he’s a master of control.
〤 ⠀ ─── shawn mendes as gabriel hernandez. — born into a world of privilege as the only son of diego hernandez, a powerful and ambitious politician, and his late wife, julia, a pianist of immense talent but fragile health. his mother’s death during his early childhood left a profound void in gabriel's life, one that his father tried to fill with discipline and lofty expectations rather than warmth or understanding. he is a charismatic and confident young man, known for his charm and leadership. beneath his polished exterior lies a rebellious and passionate soul, deeply driven by his love for music. fiercely loyal and protective of his loved ones, gabriel struggles with expressing vulnerability due to his father’s strict upbringing. while ambitious and determined, he seeks to define his identity on his own terms, balancing the expectations placed on him with his desire for independence and authenticity.
〤 ⠀ ─── zayn malik as kian bashir. — grew up in a fractured household. his father was cold and controlling, while his mother’s attempts at love were overshadowed by her battles with depression. feeling abandoned and craving validation, kian sought escape in two dangerous outlets: dealing drugs and indulging his insatiable addiction to sex. starting as a low-level dealer in his late teens, kian’s charm and street smarts helped him climb the ranks. now, he’s a key player in an underground network, balancing the adrenaline of his double life with the emptiness it leaves behind. his sex addiction feeds his need for control and closeness, but it often leaves him feeling more isolated than ever. despite his reckless lifestyle, kian’s sharp mind and silver tongue make him both a valuable ally and a dangerous adversary. kian is magnetic, calculating, and deeply self-aware, using his charm to manipulate situations to his advantage.
〤 ⠀ ─── madelyn cline as zoe davis. — zoe grew up in a picturesque seaside town, where the ocean and nearby forests became her playground. her parents, both marine biologists, inspired her love for nature and a deep respect for the environment. as a child, zoe spent hours exploring tide pools, rescuing stray animals, and documenting her adventures with an old camera her mother gave her. zoe is adventurous, empathetic, and fiercely passionate about her work. she’s free-spirited and unafraid to challenge authority when it comes to defending what she believes in. while she can be stubborn and headstrong, she’s also deeply kind and thrives on connecting with others who share her love for the natural world.
〤 ⠀ ─── jodie comer (tbd).
slowly writing their backstory & personalities, bare with me. <3

hi! it’s your winter fic exchange anon here! :)
i wanted to touch base with you before i begin writing!
1. Do you have a particular player you'd like me to write about from your list, or are you open to any of them? Is there one player you're particularly interested in at the moment? Here’s your list of players as a refresher (Erik Johnson, Tyson Jost, JT Compher, Nathan Mackinnon, Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, Tyler Seguin)
2. You mentioned that you’re interested in fluff, smut (18+ only), alternate universe, reader insert or oc. I'd love to know if you have a particular preference for any of these six options. If you're interested in an alternate universe, is there a specific one that you'd enjoy?
3. What pronouns do you prefer for the fic?
4. Would you prefer your fic to have a holiday theme or not?
5. Are there any topics that you prefer NOT to be in your fic?
6. Is there anything I didn't ask about that you think is important for me to know?
i’m so so so excited to write for you and i can’t wait to see your answers!!
Hi!!! This is so cool!!! I'm so happy that you're excited to write for me!!! I can't wait to start my own fic and to read the one you're writing for me. I know I'll love it. The player I would like you to write for is Auston Matthews. The fic can totally have a holiday theme and if you can write it as friends to lovers, that would be great. The pronouns you can use are she/her and if you want to do it with an original character that's fine, but a reader insert works, too. However it flows for you, I'll be fine with either one.
Thank you so much for reaching out and for writing this fic for me!!! Have a wonderful holiday season 💚🤍❤️💙🩷💗💓💘💕🎄🌲🎁🎅

Hi hello this is your summer fic exchange writer! I have a few questions for you~
Do you have a preference between reader insert or OC? If you prefer an OC, do let me know if there are particular characteristics you’d want her to have.
I’m not too comfy writing smut and AU (I hope that’s okay!), so would you prefer fluff or angst with a happy ending? What are your favorite tropes to read?
Who do you prefer I write for—Jamie Oleksiak, Tyler Seguin, Jake Oettinger, Brady Skjei, or Dylan Larkin? (I know Jamie’s your username but I don’t want to assume…)
Lastly and for funsies, I scrolled a bit and saw you’re most excited to hear Better Than Revenge on Speak Now TV !! What’s your favorite Taylor song (and album/era) of all time?
Thanks and so excited to be writing for you!
Hi anon!
1: I really don’t mind if you do either, only thing I ask if you do an oc, is if she’s a lil bigger, im not skinny so she cant be either haha
2: Jamie is good, i like all of them but jamie would be ideal, and if nothing comes to you for him, than tyler
3: OOH hard question, I think 1989 and reputation are my favorites, though i like midnights too. Basically im not a folklore girly so..
if you need anything else just let me know! I promise to get to it :)
