A past he hugs close to his chest, that defines his every day actions no matter what they are. Much like his brother, he is quiet and observant - and harnesses the skill to learn people simply by watching them long enough.

Despite all of this though, Libra tries his best to integrate back into society. He looks up to his brother and often marvels in his brother’s light - while trying not to taint it with his natural darkness. Together, Libra is trying to find his own path back to center balance with the help of Gemini - while simultaneously assisting his brother in getting out of his own head. Slowly but surely, Libra is coming around to his new life.

HISTORY: Born just minutes after his brother, the small bundle that was pink and colored but silent as the grave earned wary from his mother. He was looked on by the ladies around with worried expressions, as no amount of prodding or poking earned a sound from him. His eyes remained closed, though his breathing remain in tact. He was named Libra, a frightening balance that reminded her of Dagda’s warning. The resurgence of powers in twins. And thus, their mother made the decision to hand her second born to the midwife – and order her to take him far away from them. She could not handle two at once, and she chose the one leaning towards life.

With Libra in her arms, the midwife drifted all over until she found a setting for the demi-god to prosper in. He was given to a family of mortal wealth and stature – without explanation for their station. And the midwife did not care to ask. She’d done her task. Little did she know that she’d delivered the boy into the hands of the mortal mob – and a family that thrived in darkness. Libra barely remembers his young years growing with this family. Memory littered with flashes of learning how to shoot, how to fight, how to clean or sharpen weapons. Which compounds made explosives, which tactics could give the intended results. He was raised to be an heir to the underground King, and Libra embraced it, as it was all he knew.

Through his blood-soaked life, Libra found power in his stature – until his ability reared it’s head at the ripe age of eight-teen. A fight between his people an a family in debt had broken loose, prompting Libra to have to step in to take care of the mess. With his gun in hand, and a weeping girl at the end of it, his head began to mess with him. Something sparked within him, and for the first time, he turned the gun around and chose to spare a life. He went against everything he was ever taught – and found himself questioning why. He’d never second guessed himself before. Why now?

Returning home, news of his failure had reached his family. His parents were locked away in his father’s study arguing about how to handle it. Libra wasn’t supposed to hear their conversation, but one part of it caught his unwavering attention. The knowledge of learning he was not their blood son; that he’d come from somewhere far away, belonged to a different blood line than what he’d known. It put long lasting questions into his mind he hadn’t thought of in years.

With that knowledge, Libra broke into his father’s office while they were away and found the information kept on him within his files. It did not specify who he’d come from, but it left a trail he most certainly would find and end to. Taking away in the middle of the night, the confused boy began his journey to recover the answers he sought; where did he come from, who did he belong to, maybe they had an explanation for this sudden..change in him. Maybe that had the answers, maybe they didn’t – but Libra wouldn’t stop until he found something.

From the midwife in her old age, to the town he was born in – Li was at a loss for answers with no one to tell him where to go. That was, until an old crone in town remembered the mention of twins born to a woman around the time frame he would have been born. Twins? He had a sibling? And a mother. There was no guarantee it was him, but for some reason Libra felt it to be right. He was told where he could find his mother, and found at her doorstep no warm welcome. They spoke through the door and nothing more – seeming to fear him more than embrace him along. She gave him only a piece of paper. A name and a place; where his answers might come from.

Numb; after so long of being prone to killing and death, Libra handles the ability as pertaining to drawing life rather well. He can easily make the dark decision if need be.

Grief; Libra is filled with a sense of empathy for any passing. Because of this, he has an inept depth to the negative feelings and how to handle them.

Balance; Though he is dark, Libra is slowly embracing the balance in his ability and life, and is steering away from making any dark decisions.

WEAKNESSES:

Light; due to his past, and his inner darkness, he finds himself struggling to stay positive that he can change. His own mentality can crumble from time to time, leaving him in dismay of regret.

Inclusion; Libra struggles to push to include himself into activities and events involving other people. He tends to stay alone, other than entertaining the audience of his brother Gem.

Self Improvement; Though his job is to help and aide others with their negativity – he himself is drowning in his own. He can’t seem to work his own way through his own darkness, and relies on Gemini to help him in those instances to get free.

The Hip-Hop culture

This post is part of the TSU. It belongs to the third part: Socio-political reflection.

Album structure

While the notion of album structure is not specific to hip-hop, the way BTS organized their works was heavily influenced by the genre.

All of BTS’ albums are structured. Most of the times, we’ll find an intro that’s used in the comeback trailer video, as well as, interludes, and outros. You can find such tracks in several genres of music but it’s something that was heavily used in 90s hip-hop albums, for example, Dr. Dre’s The Chronic.

Concerning the intros, it was explained in the WINGS Concept Book that the boy doing the intro of an album is the guide in this era. Until now, we’ve had:

V: Tear

Jungkook/Jin: Wonder/Answer

By checking the lyrics of those different songs, we see that they indeed talk about the main theme of their album and thus introduce us to the world forming the era. Typically, while “Intro: Skool Luv Affair” is about defining love, “Intro: What Am I to You?” is tainted by the doubts of the boy whose love is not returned.

The interludes are usually in the middle of the album - the notable exception being “Interlude: Wings” that ends WINGS and makes the bridge with You Never Walk Alone, in which it evolves into “Outro: Wings”. There are two more interludes. The first one is in 2 Cool 4 Skool and has the particularity to be the only BTS track with no lyrics, it’s only music. The second one is in Dark & Wild and this time it has the least lyrics of all of BTS songs: it’s just Jungkook repeating “What are you doing?” the name of the interlude. Dark & Wild’s interlude makes the separation between the “dark” part and the “wild” part (src).

Almost all albums end with an outro - 2 Cool 4 Skool and Love Yourself 承 Her having the particularity to have two hidden tracks after theirs. It seems the outros can have two purposes: they can conclude the era (”Epilogue: Young Forever”) or open the path towards the new one. A very concrete example of the second case is O!RUL8,2?’s outro “Outro: Luv in Skool”. The song is sampled in Suga’s verse in Skool Luv Affair’s intro (src), which is the next song in BTS’ discography after this outro. This way, the two albums connect with each other.

Several albums are also rhythmed by two other types of songs that are typical of hip-hop: skits and cyphers.

The skits are little comedic plays. They usually serve to fill time but in BTS’ albums, they rather give a glimpse of the boys’ thoughts and lives. The skits have already been discussed in the post about the autobiographic references. If you’re curious, you can learn more about the history of skits here and about their decrease here.

Cyphers are initially improvised performances where rappers compete against each other and tell their story (src). The BTS cyphers are a bit different since they are written in advance and the boys aren’t competing against each other but they still use them to explain their stories and settle accounts with haters. You can learn more in the post about BTS’ relationship with haters and fans.

The intros, interludes, and outros structure the albums just like the 起承轉結 organizes the whole Love Yourself series. Once this frame is set up, the boys can embroider their message on it clearly and efficiently with the other songs. That’s what allows them to consider complex themes and to explore them. It also makes the whole album worth listening, so we can have the full story.

On a side note, the choice to release albums rather than several singles has proven to be safer for the sales. You can refer to this thread by Odie for details: part 1, part 2, part 3.

Lastly, a CuriousCat Anon pertinently pointed out that the choice of starting BTS’ discography with the school trilogy could remind of Kanye’s West College trilogy (made of The College Dropout, Late Registration, and Graduation). Indeed, both series are the first albums released by their artist, and both include lyrics about the artists’ personal life but also about the problems faced by their generation. Also, just like BTS brought socially conscious music in the heavily commercial K-pop world, Kany West linked the socially conscious underground hip-hop with the commercial popular hip-hop. The two projects were planned by their artists since the beginning and both evolved with the situation (BTS added the sequel Dark & Wild while Kanye West changed what was supposed to be the fourth album of a quadrilogy into 808s & Heartbreak, an album influenced by the heavy changes that happened in his private life at that time).

References to hip-hop in the music

The first seconds of the first song in the first BTS album is a reference to hip-hop. Indeed the beginning of “Intro: 2 Cool 4 Skool” is a sample of Epik High’s “GO”, from their 2003 album, Map of the Human Soul.

“No More Dream”, the title track of 2 Cool 4 Skool, was intentioned to “revive the gangster rap hot in the 90s with the emotion of 2013″ (src). RM cited Dr. Dre’s “Deep Cover” as an example. Actually, through its structure and its music, the whole 2 Cool 4 Skool single could be considered as a 90s hip-hop release.

“N.O”, the next title track, from O!RUL8,2?, is “an exciting trap music” (src) and “Boy In Luv” in Skool Luv Affair has old school hip-hop’s strong beat and rock sound”(src). The title tracks are not the only hip-hop songs. The whole school trilogy is heavily influenced by the genre. It started changing with Dark & Wild and its rock sound. The boys then started exploring other types of music but without forgetting hip-hop.

Another element typical to hip-hop music, even though it’s not exclusive to it, is the sampling. BTS used samples at different levels. “Coffee” and “Am I Wrong” are complete reinterpretations of existing songs: “Coffee” by Urban Zakapa and “Am I Wrong” by Keb’ Mo’. Another notable cover from Bangtan is “Born Singer”, a song based on “Born Sinner” by J.Cole. Not only is the music originally hip-hop, the lyrics tell the story of the boys and their relation to music - something that relates to the authentic feeling of hip-hop. “Lie” just use a short extract of “La Vida Breve” by Manuel de Falla. “Not Today” and “War of Hormone” have just one particular sound (the yell of the crazy German kid and a sound effect from Super Mario). You can find a quite decent list of the samples used in BTS songs on Who Sampled. While those samples can be seen as homages or inspiration sources, there are two samples with more meaningful use.

“Outro: Tear” uses the same piano as in the Highlight Reel video. It allows linking the two even though the Highlight Reel was released before Love Yourself 承 Her. On a BU related note, it’s interesting to point that the Notes released with Love Yourself 轉 Tear correspond with the events shown in the Highlight Reel, notably on the 30 August.

The other occurrence is even more impressive. “I’m Fine”, the second main track in Love Yourself 結 Answer is an ambigram of “Save Me”, the second main track in 화양연화 Young Forever. A lot of elements, be it in the music or the lyrics, mirror each other between the two songs. It shows the progression of the message, from a cry for help to the ability to stand on their own, while staying the same: the boys didn’t change, they evolved.

“길” (Road/Path) and “힙합성애자” (Hip Hop Lover) are also the occasion for the rap line to tell their story and how they discovered hip-hop.

We can add Epik High’s “Fly” mentioned in “Skit: Circle Room Talk”. The white shirt and red necktie Suga talked about are a reference to the MV and to the album cover for “Fly”.

As the lyrics are the part Bangtan is the most invested in, what we have here are the most personal references to hip-hop for the boys.

References to hip-hop in MVs and concepts

Opposite to the lyrics, the boys probably have a lot less to do with all the hip-hop references that can be found in the MVs but they’re still interesting nonetheless.

Both photo concepts for 2 Cool 4 Skool and O!RUL8,2? are inspired by Gangsta rap but with the influence of 2013 fashion.

There are also several posters about initiatives related to hip-hop:

It’s Bigger Than Hip Hop, a book about the social and political issues faced in the hip-hop field, is in the yellow bus of “No More Dream”

The Temple Of Hip Hop logo can be seen on a custom poster, still on the bus. The Temple Of Hip Hop is a non-violent organization defending the hip-hop culture

In the comeback trailer for O!RUL8,2? several elements you can associate with hip-hop (radio, mic...) assemble together with the BTS logo to form a sort of Bangtan-style hip-hop temple

The Hip Hop Re:Education Project, an album made by young people from New York, is in the hallway in ”Boy In Luv”

Lastly, some elements are not hip-hop per se but still relate to the hip-hop culture. It’s the posters from SNEEZE magazine (details in this post) and the graffitis, notably the ones from the JnJ crew that could be seen in “No More Dream”(you can see the list in the glossary).

Being Hip-Hop

Reading articles about hip-hop and its history, there’s a notion that quickly stand out: there’s a whole difference between being hip-hop and doing hip-hop. Simply doing hip-hop without searching to understand the culture, just by imitating what’s been done, is usually very badly perceived and seen as cultural appropriation. Another important element is the idea of authenticity, someone should be sincere about their story and passion.

Interestingly, BTS has been labeled as fake by default because they’re not black Americans and worst, they’re k-pop idols. Add a few mistakes due to youth and ignorance, American Hustle Life, which as any self-respecting reality show put the emphasis on problematic stereotypes and I’ll let you imagine the result. All these problems are discussed in the article “Respect must be earned: BTS’ journey towards gaining its stripes in black America”. You’ll note that no one considered teaching them before hating on them and that everything was taken from an American point of view.

Which is probably where lies the problem since BTS are Korean idols. I won’t develop the subject since I’m not a professional but you can refer to this Vulture article and this one from Medium to know more about K-hip-hop (the Wikipedia page is also well written). You can also read Elliot Sang’s analysis of “Hip Hop phile” to know more about the complicated relationship between Asia and the black culture.

In summary, hip-hop was slowly imported in South Korea after the war. At first, it was dancers then rappers slowly appeared. Two names completely changed the game in the 90s and can be considered as the founders of K-hip-hop: Drunken Tiger and Seo Taiji & Boys. Those two groups helped the development of Korean hip-hop, which later evolved into the K-pop we’re familiar with under the influence of Seo Taiji & Boys.

The members of BTS grew up under the influence of those two groups - as well as all the acts they namedropped in their songs. Hip-hop was something normal for them, totally part of their own culture and not a foreign thing. Concerning RM and Suga, it has actually been a full part of their teenagehood (see baepsayed super complete posts about the pre-debut of RM and Suga for more details). So when Suga says during their first showcase that BTS “will do the most authentic hip-hop music” (in comparison to other idol groups), it’s not a selling argument, it’s the truth. Another argument in favor of the authentic feeling is the goal of the group: protecting the youth of prejudice and denouncing the unfairness of society. The third point doesn’t come from the boys themselves but from their own models: Drunken Tiger (now Tiger JK) and Seo Taiji have acknowledged them. RM featuring on Drunken Tiger’s Timeless and BTS participating to Seo Taiji’s 25th birthday concert is extremely meaningful. And you can add Suga’s collaborations with Dynamic Duo and Epik High. Garion also revealed in an interview they loved BTS and they were thankful for their song “Mutu” inspired RM to start rapping. From the Korean point of view, BTS has to be one of the most authentic hip-hop acts possible. Even though pure hip-hop can be mainly felt in the school trilogy era, BTS remained true to their selves when it comes to their lyrics and their passion. As for the sounds, you can still feel a strong hip-hop influence in the rappers’ solo releases. I’ll conclude the post with three more articles, the first one appreciating RM’s solo works from 2015, the second about RM being both a k-pop and hip-hop artist and the third about Suga and his storytelling talent. That’s just some more proof that the boys are being acknowledged for their talent and sincerity.

People can criticize as much as they want, the fact remains that BTS has been accepted by the founders of K-hip-hop and by music professionals, they are an authentic hip-hop group.

This harmonious realm of paired energies is refered to as the "Pleroma", which means "fullness" or "completion". The complementary qualities that make up the syzygy have become separated in this world due to the action of Sophia, resulting in a state of deficiency (hysterema). This lower level of reality is a illusion that results from ignorance and separation. According to Valentinus, every human being contains a seed of the divine essence (pneuma) that has to be rejoined to its heavenly counterpart or angel in a syzygy. Because of our ignorance, we often mistakenly believe that things can be separated into opposites. This is discussed in the Gospel of Philip: "Light and darkness, life and death, right and left are mutually dependent; it is impossible for them to separate. Accordingly the 'good' are not good, the 'bad' are not bad, 'life' is not life, 'death' is not death." (Gospel of Philip 53:14-23). Categories that are often considered as opposites are in fact closely related and one cannot be understood without the other. There can be no concept of maleness without femaleness or no concept of darkness without light. The division into opposites is an illusion. This illusory level of reality can be "dissolved" by reunification of the pneuma within us with its angelic counterpart. This is commonly refered to as gnosis and results in a restoration of the individual to the syzygy and the wholeness (pleroma). This "gnosis" is understood simultaneously as knowledge of God and as reunification with one's heavenly counterpart. Distinctions such as the division into "opposites" are dissolved through restoration to unity. Restoration to unity allows the mystic to transcend the illusion and perceive the true reality. According to Valentinus: "Inasmuch as the deficiency came into being because the Father was not known, from the moment the Father is known the deficiency will not exist. As with a person's ignorance- when one receives gnosis, ignorance of the other passes away of its own accord, as the darkness vanishes when the light appears, so also the deficiency vanishes in the completion, so from that moment on the realm of appearance (i.e. the mundane world) is no longer manifest but rather will pass away in the harmony of unity." (Gospel of Truth 24:27-25:6) It is clear from the preceding that Valentinianism is a form of monism. According to Valentinus, the divine is the only true reality. All else is illusion. Dualistic distinctions between "body" and "mind", "soul" and "matter" are meaningless. To have gnosis of God is to see through the illusion of worldly distinctions and to experience reality as the fullness (pleroma) of the divine. Aeon (Gnosticism) There is an intimate association between the name and that which is named. According to Valentinus all things that truly exist do so in association with their name: "For what does not exist has no name - indeed what would a nonexistent be named? - but what exists, exists along with its name" (Gospel of Truth 39:11-16). The linking together of the name and that which is named is expressed elsewhere in Valentinian theology through the concept of the syzygy (linked pairs). In the syzygy, the "male" corresponding to form is joined with the "female" corresponding to substance. In most forms of Valentinian thought, even the Father is a syzygy. His inexpressible nature is expressed by having him united with his Thought (or Silence). The Son is also generally conceived of as a syzygy. He is Mind united with Truth. Inasmuch as both Father and Son are both syzygies, they are together described as the first Tetrad. (see Irenaeus Against Heresies 1:1:1). The Tetrad is itself linked with the fact that the divine name is expressed by four letters in Hebrew. In Valentinian theology, the Son emanates a series of divine attributes or 'Aeons'. The Aeons follow the pattern established in the first Tetrad and are arranged into pairs (syzygies). The relationship of the Son to the Aeons is unclear without taking account of the notion of the Name. How the Aeons are related to the Name (Son) is clearly spelled out in the teacher Marcus as follows: "The pronunciation of the Name took place as follows. He spoke the first word of it which was the beginning, and that utterance consisted of four letters. He added the second and this also consisted of four letters. Next he uttered a third and this again embraced ten letters. Finally, he pronounced a fourth which was composed of twelve letters. The enunciation of the whole Name consisted of thirty letters or elements, and of four distinct utterances" (Irenaeus Against Heresies 1:14:1) Using the metaphor developed by Marcus, each of the Aeons correspond to an individual letter of the Name. In addition to the Tetrad, there are twenty-six Aeons. Again we note a connection to Judaism. In Hebrew numerology, the divine name has a numerical value of twenty-six. Four and twenty-six give a total of thirty Aeons. http://gnosis.org/library/valentinus/Syzygy_Valentinian.htm Aeonic Pair The Universal Founders are involved with altering Ursa Major in which its seven stars are merging with its counterpart, the seven sister stars in the Pleiades creating a cosmic blueprint of the Aeonic Pairing. Together, they represent the active principle of the heavenly masculine and the receptive principle of the heavenly feminine uniting through their shared constellation which allows connection directly into the Cosmic Spiritual Sun. As this Cosmic Triad completes, the Heavenly Father, the Heavenly Mother unites with their Cosmic Spiritual Sun. To which this heavenly marriage heralds the birth of an entirely new creation of Suns and Sacred planets while nurturing the Christos child on the earth. This Aeonic Pair represents perfect balance. This cosmic shift in the Solar System is being synchronised into a new Aeon. This new Aeon is equal to a new measurement in cosmic time as well as the creation of a new cosmic entity. The new Aeon describes the horizontal measurement of time as having been adjusted by the Cosmic Clock, by the hand of God. The Aeons are always born in male-female pairs, each of which is in itself a divine principle, yet, at the same time represent one aspect of the Godhead. These Aeonic pairs comprise the totality of the Godhead as the two divine principles which merge and unite as the third principle, becoming the Three in One. This heavenly prototype must be embodied, as above, so below, and will come to be the spiritual embodiment process of the ascending human experience. The spiritual completion which unites the Aeonic pair is the resulting state of Krystal hierogamic union or sacred marriage between the male and female principle with the Godhead. The stairway to heaven through the Krystal Star is embodied through inner and outer sacred marriage, in alignment to these heavenly prototypes, which will continually advance upon the earth. Hermaphrodite Through the perfect union of the Universal Mother and Universal Father, as an example of the Gender Principle with Adam and Eve in the waters of sex with chastity, the pillar of the hermai is perfected and made into the image of God through the hierogamic union of the inner Christos-Sophia. This is represented in perfected Alchemy of unified polarities, as the Magnum Opus of cosmic consciousness. In this term hermaphrodite, we see Mercury (Hermes) uniting with the goddess of love. Her name is Venus or Aphrodite. When Hermes and Aphrodite unite they form Hermaphrodite, the perfect balance of unified male and female principle or the Aeonic Pair, Christos-Sophia. A hermaphrodite really, truly has nothing to do with what people currently think that it is. The mystical understanding of a hermaphrodite, is the etymology of the word comes from the union between Mercury and Venus (hermes-aphrodite), and is the hierogamic union of a god and goddess, a perfected being, the perfect balance and union between masculine and feminine, united as one. When we enter the sexual act, we mimic that process in varying degrees of Consciousness. We enter into a sacred temple, the union of polarities to form a unity. Because we are ignorant and subjected to the Sexual Misery programming on the earth, but we corrupt it with our lust, jealousy, pride, arrogance, with animal desire - the Houses of Ego. When we think with the Negative Ego mind and allow the Imposter Spirit to dwell inside of us, we do not have a clean, pure temple; our inner temple has been made into a brothel. Universal Couple When we take the seven facial orifices and unite them with male sexual orifice and dimensional portals we get the number Twelve (12). The correct pattern of the electrical spin for the Universal Male principle is 12:12. The same architecture in the planet body is the 12 Tree Grid and when the 12:12 is projected as the first image of God as a Hu-Man (Adam), it is called the Albion.The Geometric Form of Six is inherently connected to the sexual organs of a female. When we take the seven facial orifices and unite them with female sexual orifice and dimensional portals we get the number Thirteen (13). The correct pattern of the electrotonal spin for the Universal Female principle is 13:13. The same architecture exists in the planetary core as Mother Arc. Post about Love Yourself: Speak Yourself

As the name implies, the tracklist was focused on songs from the Love Yourself series (83% of the tracklist) but we also got a few old friends:

“Save Me” from 화양연화 Young Forever - which was played to start “I’m Fine” since the two songs work as an ambigram

“I NEED U” and “RUN”, the main tracks of 화양연화 Pt.1 and 화양연화 Pt.2

a medley: “Fun Boyz” (화양연화 Pt.1), “Rise of Bangtan” (O!RUL8,2?), “Fire” (화양연화 Young Forever), “Baepsae” (화양연화 Pt.2), “Dope” (화양연화 Pt.1)

With the exception of “Rise of Bangtan” (probably here because it can be considered as a sibling to “Fun Boyz”), all the songs are from the 화양연화 era. 화양연화 and Love Yourself are deeply connected through the BU so it may be the reason.

With this reasoning, it’s interesting to note that “I NEED U” and “RUN” were performed between the first part 起 Wonder and the second part 承 Her. We can thus assume 화양연화 happens in between and it seems to be confirmed by the Save Me webtoon (Spoiler: we saw events from Euphoria, then from “I NEED U” during April-May YEAR 22 and we know the girls from the Highlight Reel will appear in June YEAR 22).

On a more technical note, the scenic was made by You Jaehun who talked about his work in this video. The concert director also wrote a book about how the concerts came together. He notably mentions that j-hope got the pattern of the the blocks for “Just Dance” on the first try (src).

Lastly, @GetOnSwag found that the vocal line’s shirts for “The Truth Untold” were created by Han Hyunmin. The designer posted about it on Instagram (post, story). Concerning their first outfits, they were made by the shop 청화사 (src)

The first VCR uses elements we’ve already seen before:

“DNA”’s vortex

The curtain at the entrance of Jin’s secret space in WINGS concept. It’s also usually Jin who draws the curtains but here it’s Jung Kook who closes them

The pigment explosion behind j-hope in “Blood, Sweat & Tears” JP version, that’s also in his VCR for The Wings Tour

起 Wonder VCR

Centered around j-hope and Jung Kook, this VCR announces “Trivia 起: Just Dance” and “Euphoria”.

The boys are together like in Euphoria and they dance happily, following the theme of “Trivia 起: Just Dance”. j-hope and Jung Kook are together in scenes without the others.

There are nods to several elements:

RM wears red high Converse, the model that inspired “Converse High”, which was originally a solo song from RM

Jin and j-hope are seen with a tennis racket. They played together in BTS Comeback Show Highlight Reel, the show for Tear

SUGA pretends to play the piano. He knows how to play and his character in the BU has a strong connection with pianos and music in general

j-hope makes the same gesture as in “Daydream” MV, the main track for his mixtape Hope World. We can also see the cake as a reference to the Highlight Reel, and the birthday party as a reference to the party held at the hospital for Jimin in Euphoria

The drink Jung Kook offers to j-hope is the same as the one he drinks himself in Euphoria

Jung Kook holds a bunch of flowers, reminding one of his scene in the Highlight Reel

The boys took group pictures in the Prologue and in “RUN”

Jimin has the same horn speaker as in “Fire”, with Amplifier written on one side (the A is stylized to be the anarchy symbol)

Jung Kook makes the same gesture as j-hope in the You Never Walk Alone concept

j-hope plays DJ with a gas stove like in “Fire”

j-hope also blows butterflies on a sleeping Jung Kook. The butterfly dream was a heavy trope in 화양연화.

In the BU, Hoseok and Jungkook are the only two who don't go away and keep in contact during YEAR 20 and 21. They're even together in Jungkook's Note for the 30 September YEAR 20.

承 Her VCR

This VCR introduced “Serendipity” and “Trivia 承: Love”, Jimin’s and RM’s solo songs. Only the two of them appear and while they can interact a bit, they’re not in the same place.

Jimin basically reenacts “Serendipity”, playing with a yellow blanket and surrounded by yellow balls.

If we consider, all of Love Yourself 承 Her content, the closest to RM’s set would be the L version of the concept photo. However there are no identical elements, the two places just have similar styles. RM also do gestures similar to Jimin’s, like hiding under a blanket or playing with yellow fruits. The second half of his part could be seen as a reference to “DNA” because of the colorful lighting.

At the end of the video, there are 7 yellow fruits near RM.

Here we have to consider something we learn in the VCRs’ making-of: there was a change of program, SUGA’s solo VCR was canceled, and instead, he replaced RM in the VCR with Jin. The reason for this change is probably what RM explained in his VLive for Answer. He was originally supposed to do the Trivia for 轉 but ended up doing the one for 承, thus exchanging roles with SUGA. As the concert was announced before Tear was released, the VCRs were probably shot before the two rappers made this decision and so to respect the pairs for Answer, they had to also exchange places in the VCRs.

However, we can see a bit of SUGA’s video in the making-of. It’s practically identical to RM’s, supporting this idea they just exchanged places.

Concerning what we actually got now.

The 轉 Tear VCR is a reenactment of “Singularity”, on a slightly different set. There are no more newspapers but the flowers are still here and the colors are similar to the original video.

There are also references to “FAKE LOVE” with the lantern containing a flower (originally a Smeraldo flower but here it’s a rose, which is similar to the ones in the bunches around V) and the sand.

The last VCR starts with the end of “FAKE LOVE Extended Version” where after putting on a mask, the boys end up under a rock. It then shows Jin and SUGA walking in a completely white set. The subliminal pictures behind them are from “FAKE LOVE”.

During “Epiphany” performance, there are two pianos on the stage, one black, one white. Jin plays the black one. It can show his own duality or the white piano surrounded by flowers could also be a nod to SUGA.

The Seoul concert was projected in theaters all around the world in January 2019. The concert was cut to fit into a 1h30 format so there were no VCRs nor ments. Here are the official trailer and the posters (x, x).
