So, politely, what the fuck did I just watch?
This marks Day Four in our decent into madness and after a solid start, we are now on incredibly shaky ground with Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth.
Not doing a full scene for scene breakdown like I did for the second one because quite frankly, that was exhausting to write and because this one is a tremendous series of extremely audible oofs.
So, first and foremost, a glance at the Wikipedia for this one reveals that it had a roughly higher budget that Hellraiser II. Where that budget has gone, I cannot say. Certainly not to a cinematographer, because this one looks and feels so, so direct-to-home-video. But that's fine, after all, the story's got to be good, yeah?
Uh... no.
Look, my man Clive Barker, he's a busy guy. I'm sure he was working on something of extreme importance at the time and therefore didn't have as much of a role in story details and whatnot. It happens. I can't blame him. Who do I shift blame to?
Tony Randel, who directed Hellraiser II, and Peter Adkins, who wrote the screenplay for II based on a story by Clive Barker. Huh..? Can someone verify that my notes on this are right? I'm genuinely confused. And director Anthony Hickox's only major film of note is... Hellraiser III. Some action movies and whatnot, but nothing of note.
I'm not going to talk about our lead, Reporter Joanne Summerskill, because I legitimately do not care about her at all. She exists as a replacement for Kirsty (who gets a cameo), but as her journey here isn't really connected to these events in the same way as Kirsty, or Julia, she kind of doesn't connect as well. Actually, she's kind of just a weird vehicle for the storyline the movie actually does want to focus on, the character the movie wants to focus on.
The nail-headed Hell Priest died at the end of Hellbound. Not a good thing if you want him to be the antagonist of a sequel, right? Luckily, this series has an established history of allowing dead things to return to life, though we also seem determined to disregard the rules to that. So we do spend a bit of time bringing the nail-headed Hell Priest back to life.
We explore a bit more his former, human life, something touched upon in the previous film. You see, former human, the late Captain Elliot Spencer, manifests himself to our reportagonist to exposit a bit about how the nail-headed Hell Priest is a darker side of him, one which had given in to the allure of pain and pleasure and not at all who he truly is and yeah, this was a pointless contribution to the character.
I actually like this idea of a human giving in to the excesses offered by (the tragically absent) Leviathan and the Labyrinths of Hell, and being transformed by it into the Cenobitical Gash. This is good stuff. Having this character say "yes, I succeeded in becoming a master of pleasure and torment, and yes I delight in inflicting grievous bodily manglement onto others, but it's not really ME, it's not really who I AM!", is remarkably dumb. You cannot expect to garner sympathy when I've literally watched you rip your victims to tiny little pieces via meat hook. No dice.
Since none of the nail-headed Hell Priest's compatriots from the previous film bothered much with the whole "accept a blood sacrifice on the place of your death" thing, our Lead Cenobite goes about creating a new horde of loyal servants. Not equals, these new Cenobites are clearly subservient.
I cannot bring myself to like any of their designs, the new Cenobites. They feel so, I don't know, rushed. These are obviously not persons who have taken to bodily disfigurement and self-mutilation as a means of exploring the farthest reaches of pain and experience, they are just sort of, well, impaled with random things and given black leather.
Yes, yes, Doctor Channard had a similar thing going for him, but I think he is not quite a victim of the same thing as the new ones. His Cenobitical forme expanded on his own desires to torment his patients. It works as an outward expression of his own masochism. Cameraman Doc's is just sort of, now he has a video camera shoved through his eye socket. I guess it's hard to give designs that reflect a character's inner desires when none of these characters have a significant personality to begin with.
Aaaaaand once again, we seem to have completely forgotten the rules of the Lemarchand Box. It is now a glorified Pokéball. Is it really that damn hard to remember that the Lemarchand Box is a key? Really? Can we do this right, please? And what's with this "he cannot take it, it must be willingly given" rule? I'm not saying this directly conflicts with our established understanding of the Lemarchand Box, I'm just saying it feels like it conflicts with our understanding of how the Lemarchand Box is used by the Cenobites in the first film.
I'll give this movie one thing though. The scene with the church did kind of amuse me a bit.
This also marks the first time the films use the name Pinhead properly, which again, out of respect for Clive Barker, I will not be using.
Please tell me that I can forget all about this one and disregard it entirely for the next one.

Name: Maeve Celeste Hudson Age: 36 Time living in Tonopah: Native Occupation: Mechanic at Inferno Auto Gang Affiliation: Hellraisers Hangaround Neighborhood: Downtown Face Claim: Lyndsy Fonseca
Biography: TW: Drugs, alcohol, mention of death, addiction
Maeve Celeste had been born into a life of relative comfort as the middle child of John and Ruth. Her mother worked as the Head Nurse in the ER, while her father, a retired army veteran, was one of the members of the Hellraisers Motorcycle Club. Maeve had shared a close bond with her younger sister, but that changed when she was twelve. Tragedy struck the family when her older brother, Adam, was killed in a hit-and-run accident. The loss consumed her father with rage, driving him to seek revenge. Six months later, he was arrested for double homicide and sentenced to life in prison without parole. He would eventually die in prison from heart complications when Maeve was twenty.
While her mother and sister distanced themselves from the MC after her father’s imprisonment, Maeve sought solace in it. To her, the club became a symbol of everything her father stood for and provided comfort in the wake of his loss.
Maeve had always struggled in school, especially with math. It wasn’t until middle school that she was diagnosed with dyslexia, which made her academic journey even harder. By the time she reached eleventh grade, Maeve made a significant decision that went against her mother’s wishes—she dropped out. She had already fallen in with the wrong crowd, and her life had spiraled into a routine of drinking, drugs, and partying.
Despite the chaos of her youth, Maeve had learned car mechanics from her dad before he went to prison. What started as an effort to grow closer to him eventually turned into a genuine passion. After earning her GED, Maeve found work as a mechanic at the local auto shop.
One night, after reluctantly agreeing to attend a party thrown by a coworker, Maeve crossed paths with a man whose personality clashed with hers in almost every way. Despite their differences, they quickly became inseparable. What started as a casual fling soon deepened into a relationship, though they kept it secret due to his ties to the cartel.
Maeve fell deeply in love, and when he proposed, she said yes. However, life took another turn when her fiancé was arrested. Rushing to the county jail, Maeve was heartbroken when he was sentenced to six years in prison. Though she loved him, Maeve realized that this was not the life she wanted. Her first visit to the prison was also her last. Tearfully, she ended their engagement, explaining that she couldn’t wait for a life spent entangled with the criminal world. She left the prison that day devastated but firm in her decision, never looking back.
Now, Maeve had successfully overcome her most recent relapse and was attending weekly meetings. She was working on mending her relationship with her family, determined to rebuild her life one step at a time.
Headcannons:
Her favorite game to play is pool.
She has Dyslexia
She lives in a studio apartment in the middle of downtown.
Her dad’s death has been really, really, hard on her – but she doesn’t like talking about it.
She has a Doberman named Ronan.

Smokey brand Movie Reviews: Back For the Very First Time
It’s the end of the year and time i look back on my cinema-going journey over these past twelve months. This one is special because it’s the first since the Boof, that i actually got to go to the theater, itself. I’ve seen a ton of flicks this year had to make up for lost time, and there’s still one i want o check out. I probably won’t see that one, The Whale, because my city is an uncultured cow-town and we never get movies like that in their initial limited run. It’ll probably make it’s way to these parts sometime in January but know, if i had seen it before the turn of the year, it’d probably be pretty high on this list. That said, these are my top films of the year. I recommend all of them because they were wildly entertaining.
10. The Batman
This was a disappointment. I mean, it’s good, super grounded, and actually adapted something new but, at the same time, it was wildly underwhelming. I’ve seen it a few times and with each viewing, I'm less enamored with the entire concept of Battinson. The film, itself, is amazing and i do believe it was one of the best releases this year but I'd be lying if i said it didn’t expect more from Matt Reeves. It feels like a palette swap of The Dark night, like Reeves just watched all of Nolan’s films and stole his homework. Best Batmobile ever brought to film, though.
9. Hellraiser
I was all over this when it was announced that The Hell Priest would present feminine. If you know anything about The Hellbound Heart, then you know that this single change, mad e the new Hellraiser the most accurate adaption of that novella. And then it wasn’t. They cribbed a bit from Barkers yarn but did something wholly original with the lore, with the world, and i dug all of it. This isn’t the Hellraiser i know but it’s a Hellraiser i want to see more of.
8. The Northman
I’m a sucker for my Shakespeare adaptions and this is straight up Hamlet, but with a wildly brutal presentation and the meticulously crafted narrative from Robert Eggers. This man is fast becoming one of my favorite creatives. Dude literally only has three entries on his filmography and they’re all bangers. They’re all on my all-time list. It’s absurd how deft a storyteller this man is. His vision is only matched by his creativity and The Northman really drives that fact home.
7. Pearl
The dark horse A24 entry that made the list at the finish line. I was tempted to put X on this thing but then Pearl quietly dropped and i was absolutely captivated by Mia Goth. I’ve always been a fan of her work but Pearl really demonstrates why i love her so much. his is every bit her film as it is Ti West’s. Goth absolutely devastates as Pearl and it’s a macabre pleasure to witness. X was good and genuinely deserves a spot on this list but Pearl is everything that film was and so much more.
6. Sonic the Hedgehog 2
This one was surprising. It’s the rare sequel that is better than the original. I didn’t expect to like the first Sonic film as much as i did because of how derivative it turned out to bee, but, borderline cliche aside, i had a blast with Sonic 2. It’s weird to see but i think Hollywood is right on the cusp of properly cracking video game adaptions. Detective Pikachu, Arcane, and now this? Yeah, this feels like Batman Begins just dropped and Iron Man is just a few years away. We’ll see how Mario does next year.
5. Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness
This thing should have really been called Wanda Maximoff and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day because, goddamn! Who’d have thought that the Scarlet Witch would be up there with Killmonger, Thanos, and every villain MCU Spider-Man has faced, as one of the best antagonists in the entire MCU. Honestly, for my money, MoM was the most entertaining entry from The House of Ideas and i say the knowing i like Wakanda Forever more but this thing is re-watchable. I don’t see myself ever watching Black Panther II again. That one hurts. This one is fun.
4. Prey
Bro. Bro... Look, I've been wildly transparent about my love for all things Xeno. I love the Alien franchise and that means, by proxy, i love the Predator franchise. I’ve gushed about my love for Machiko Noguchi, the first human Predator. I’ve lamented about the missed opportunity to adapt that original AvP story line to film and hat would be lost when The Mouse House got a hold of the franchise. Prey proved me wrong. This thing is the best Predator film released to date, outside of the first, i am DYING to see what comes next. F*cking brilliant watch, all day and a real throwback to the Eighties where you had to work around tech limitations to tell your story.
3. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
This movie was an exercise in pain. I liked it, i did, but it was a rough watch. Ryan Coogler has crafted a genuinely emotional dirge requiem for Chadwick Boseman and the character of T’Challa. His shadow looms over this entire film and it weighs on your psyche as you watch. It’s heartbreaking but incredibly beautiful. It is, admittedly, flawed in a lot of places but i still enjoyed it. I still enjoyed how much love was put into this film. It’s gorgeous and a legitimately sweet good-bye to Wakanda as we knew it.
2a: Nope
Nope is one of the most authentically black films i have ever seen. This sh*t just hits different. Like, watching this thing makes me feel like i would react in the exact same ways as Em and OJ. Seriously, this is how my cousins and i would act if Jan Jacket showed up over our house. I love that. I love this movie. It’s not as good as Get Out but i think it’s the most accessible film Peele has ever made.
2b. Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery
I just watched this thing a few days ago and I'm still enamored with how brilliant Glass Onion is. From top to bottom, this is a tour de force in film-making and i adored every second of it. Rian Johnson gets so much sh*t for The Last Jedi but this man can craft a film with the best of them. Also, he wrote the f*cking thing! I forgot to mention that in my review but he wrote that whole movie. Story, script, screenplay; All him. It just frustrates me how brilliant this man is, and how sh*t The Last Jedi turned out.
1. Everything Everywhere All at Once
This one is easily the best film I've seen all year. Everything about it absolutely screams masterwork. This one was my A24 entry for the year an I'm glad i made the effort to check it out because, holy sh*t, is this film fantastic! Never mind all of the pretty blatant brilliance that i covered in my proper review, i just really respect the f*ck out of this trend in film to deal with generational trauma. We saw a lot of this during the year with films like Turning Red, Encanto, and even a little bit in Shang-Chi but Everything really put in the work with this sh*t. I left that theater feeling. Just, feeling. I reflected on the scars i have from my parents and how they have shaped my own worldviews. It’s rare that a film leaves me that introspective and i have to give full credit to this movie for allowing me to experience that, after so goddamn long.
Honorable Mentions: Turning Red, Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, Three Thousand Years of Longing, Blonde, X, Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe, Tár, Morbius (For the memes), The Black Phone, Jackass Forever, Bullet Train, Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers, Barbarian, V/H/S/99
Not Jurassic World: Dominion, though. Never Jurassic World: Dominion. That movie was terrible. Worst than Fallen Kingdom and THAT was a whole ass exercise in masochism just to watch.

Thirty One Days of Horror Movies! Day Twelve :D
Most people have heard of Hellraiser (Which I recommended last year) but here’s a Clive Barker film that’s a bit more obscure
The movie deals with the gruesome events that transpire when an ancient deity is awakened in Ireland proceeds to go on a terrifying rampage in the community which threatens both the locals and an American reporter there on holiday with his family
Barker himself apparently wasn’t too happy with how the film turned out but personally I think it’s pretty good...it’s not on the same level as Hellraiser one and two but I think it’s definitely one of the better Barker adaptations out there with a well done costume design for the titular monster and some good moments of terror as it begins its rampage
The acting is pretty solid too and I like that it subverts a common trope...the whole “The locals/authorities refuse to believe that anything supernatural is going on” by having them pretty quickly realise that yes, they absolutely are dealing with something paranormal here and not just refusing to believe the main character even when it’s obvious that something weird is happening

Connors POV chapter now, it was a little harder to write, Murphy just comes easier for some reason.
I hope you enjoy it.
All the feels.
--------------------------
It had been two days since Murphy had told Lila he loved her and she said it back, and Connor noticed the world hadn’t actually fucking ended. Things didn't dramatically change or get weird. The only difference was Murphy being able to openly admit how he felt, whispering it to her a hundred times a day, making her giggle and blush like a kid that got exactly what they asked for on Christmas day. Connor still hadn't told her, but he was getting the deep urge to do so. Seeing Murphy tell her, seeing how happy it made her, it inspired him. He wanted to tell her because of Murphy, not in a competitive way, but because he had seen that he had done it, and it didn't make blood rain from the sky or the world set ablaze, it just made them really fucking happy.
She had always said she cared equally about them, she would never play favorites, and in telling Murphy she loved him, Connor knew it applied to him too. So it wasn't like he was scared she wouldn't return the sentiment anymore, because she obviously did. He was just guarded. He wasn't used to this, feeling things this intense, feeling love at all for someone other than his brother, and it was hard for him to know what to do with those feelings. He wasn't surprised his brother had just told her, no plans, nothing fancy, just the words. It was Murphy all over. And Connor was the one to push him to do so after all. He knew his brother would feel better once those words left his lips. As the days had gone on, he had seen how his brother looked ready to crawl out of his skin when he was around her, wanting so badly to tell her but being too scared. Connor was glad he gave him that push, because now his brother was free from that burden and so fucking happy it made his heart clench.
He wanted to tell her, and he would, but he wanted to plan it out. He wanted to do it in a way where he could show her too, he was never good with words. It wasn't that he wanted to outdo his brother, it wasn't like that at all and he would never dream of it. Lila knew how different they were. Murphy felt so deeply, and words just fell from his lips, he was always better with words. When Murphy spoke, he fucking meant it and it was hard for you not to take notice. Connor was more of a doer, to show her as well as tell her because deep down, he felt like the weight of his words wasn't enough.
That was why he enlisted the help of his emotional counterpart for his plan. Connor wasn't romantic in the slightest. He had never taken a girl on a date, he didn't get them gifts, he was clueless. Murphy, on the other hand, was very sentimental. He'd never cared for lass before, so it wasn't like he was more experienced than Connor, but with Murphy being so soppy, he would be better at knowing what to do. Murphy used to pick flowers from the neighbours garden and give them to their Ma when he was a young child. It would always make her smile and she'd put them in a vase on the table, and when they died, Murphy would cry. Connor never really understood why the flowers dying upset his brother so much, but Murphy would always go and pick more to replace them. That was the kind of sentimental person he was, and Connor just wasn't like that. He was a little more sentimental when it came to his brother and now Lila, but with something like this, he didn't even know where to start.
They couldn't execute his plan for another couple of hours though, and he was on edge with waiting. He was usually patient, Murphy was the one who had trouble waiting, but this was something new to him and he just wanted it over with. It didn't help that Murphy was so fucking excited about the whole thing that Connor could feel it. He knew Murphy was just excited for Connor to come out with it, so then it was all finally done and out there, completing the circle as it were. He was grateful when Murphy ended up falling asleep, head on Lilas' tummy as they just chilled on the bed talking and cuddling like they always did. Connor could finally get some semblance of peace from his twin's excited energy.
Connor and Lila decided to leave Murphy to sleep, he always looked so peaceful when he was sleeping, not like the hellraiser he really was. So Connor helped to ease Murphy off the lass and then they went to the sofa to watch some tv. He loved how no matter what they were doing, he just really fucking enjoyed her company. Being around her made him feel so happy, so fucking relaxed, he always wanted to be by her side. He just didn't show it like his brother did, the way Murphy followed her around like a puppy after a fucking treat. Connor had far more pride than his needy other half.
They were watching some old soap opera, laughing and commenting on every fucking thing that was wrong with the God awful show. She was sat in his lap sideways and he was stroking the nape of her neck, he was pretty sure he could hear her purring.
“Can I ask you something?” She asked suddenly, taking him off guard. He looked down at her and she was looking up with her beautiful blue eyes. He felt nervous all of a sudden, like she was going to ask him something he wouldn't want to answer and he swallowed thickly.
“Aye lass, what is it?” He asked carefully, looking wary almost. He watched as she raked her teeth over her bottom lip, she seemed nervous to ask whatever she was about to ask, he could feel it, and that only served to make him nervous.
“Will you help teach me how to block my thoughts?” She asked quietly, blinking up at him. She looked like she half expected him to shout at her.
He was confused, of course he was, and a tad offended that she would want to block her thoughts. But being the rational twin, he thought about it, and he knew that she had the right to keep her own shit private. The boys had blocked her on occasion too, because some things were too personal, or they just weren't ready to share something with her, so of course she would feel the same. The connection was deep and profound, but it didn't mean they had to share every little thought with each other. Even the twins didn't do that. They didn't so much block each other that much, but they had become so accustomed to their telepathy, they could just tune it out, turning the volume down almost. Lila was new to this, a babe in the world of their weird twin connection, and he felt a little ashamed of himself that he hadn't just offered to teach her how to do it. He felt irresponsible that he and his brother hadn't even shown her much of anything, like they had given her the gift and then fucked off to let her figure it out herself.
“O’ course sweetheart.” He smiled down at her, she graced him with a beautiful smile in return. It always made his stomach feel weird when she did. Like there was a flock of birds inside of it fighting to get out and take flight.
“I was gonna ask Murphy but…” She looked down, blushing a little and Connor tilted his head as he looked at her.
“But ye know he’d pitch a fit that ye'd want te block us out.” He stated, amusement colouring his words, not even asking because he knew that's what she thought, he knew because he knew his brother and it was very true. Murphy wouldn't rationalise it the way Connor did, he would just instantly be offended and upset. He wouldn’t think about the fact she deserved fucking privacy in her own head, even though the darker twin had been the one to say the whole thing was invasive in the first place. But now things were different, Murphy had told her he loved her and she returned it, he knew Murphy would take some serious offense at the mere suggestion.
Lila nodded up at him, her cheeks crimson, and he knew she felt bad because he could feel it off her. He just smiled, stroking her neck soothingly, much like he usually did to his brother when he was upset, just far more gentler.
“Ye've got no need te feel bad lass, ye know yer right. Murph doesn’t really think about things, he just feels. But I get it, and o’ course I’ll show ye, should o’ shown ye in the first place.” He said softly, pressing a sweet kiss to her head. She beamed a smile at him, looking like she felt better already. He tapped her leg, signaling for her to move and she did. They sat facing each other on the couch. He was a little nervous, he wasn't good at explaining things like his brother, showing her would be easy but he’d still have to explain it first so she really understood.
He took her soft hands in his own, stroking them as he looked at her, his brain in overdrive as he tried to figure out the best way to explain it to her.
“So ye know how te push yer emotions onte us aye? Ye’ve done it before.” He said quietly, looking at her carefully. He knew the answer yet it still seemed like a question. She nodded as she looked up at him, squeezing his hands.
“Yeah, I’m still learning and stuff, but I can do it when I really concentrate hard on it.” She replied, looking so serious it made Connor grin. Like she was in school learning something super fucking important. And it seemed he was the teacher, that led to some interesting thoughts. Lila snorted and swatted his arm, giving him a playful glare. Connor barked a laugh, it seemed the lass was getting better at hearing their thoughts, though he doubted she did it on purpose. The boys weren’t really used to blocking them out, they didn't need to with each other, so they only really thought about blocking the lass if it was something intense.
“Aye, sorry lass, ye can’t blame me...So, I’ll try te explain it the best way I can, and then ye can practice on me. Sound good?” He smiled at her, making her grin and nod. He licked his lower lip and took a breath.
“So te block things out, ye gotta think o’ a wall as such. Like a barrier. It’s hard te explain, me and Murphy just do it if we need te, we’ve done it since bein’ wee babes so, I’m not quite sure how te...explain it te ye so ye can grasp it.” He muttered, pursing his lips as he thought of a way to teach her something he just knew how to do without being taught.
“How do ye push out yer feelin’s, how is it ye do that? WIll ye explain it te me sweetheart?” He asked carefully. If he knew how she managed to figure that out, it might help him know where to go with this. She nodded and sat up a little straighter, looking like she was bracing herself.
“Umm...well it’s like...I just see it in my mind? Does that make sense? Like I feel it, and I have to close my eyes to really think about it, but I focus on how I feel, and I kinda like, push it, ya know? I picture it like a bubble, and I’m like, making the bubble grow? I sound ridiculous.” She snorted, looking down at their hands.
Connor frowned, he didn't like it when she took the piss out of herself, although he knew just how hard it was to try and vocalise what the fuck this was with them. It was one thing understanding it in your head, it was another to try and put it into words.
“Doesn’t sound ridiculous Lila, it makes sense. Me and Murph don’t have te do that because we’ve just always been able te, but yer new to this. We’ve both been pretty impressed with how ye’ve been pickin’ it up so quick.” He said firmly, making her look at him with a smile as her cheeks flushed. She looked so damn proud her herself from his compliment, he resisted the urge to just grab her and kiss her until she couldn't breathe.
“So, ye visualize it? That seems te help ye with the focus. So maybe, if ye visualise a wall? Like a barrier aye? Think o’ putting the barrier up, like the bubble ye mentioned, only this time, the intent isn't te push out so we can feel, it’s te keep us out.” He suggested, shifting in his seat a little.
“Okay, I can try that.” She smiled, she seemed nervous though and he brought her hand up to kiss it before letting it go.
“I’ll not touch ye at first, it’s harder to block with physical contact, we can take it one step at a time. Let's have a go aye? Think o’ the wall, and when yer ready, think o’ somethin’ and I’ll tell ye if I can hear it or not. Might take a few tries for ye te get it, since I’ve been doin’ it longer.” He grinned at her. She nodded, inhaling deeply as she shuffled back from him ever so slightly, just to make some more distance between them. She closed her eyes and Connor watched her intently, she was breathing slowly and her brow was furrowed in concentration, it was fucking adorable. He was waiting, tuned in to her and waiting to feel the barrier like he usually could with Murphy, or if he could hear her thoughts.
He could feel a slight block, but he knew before she did that it wouldn't be enough. It would easily be able to be broken. But with practice, she would get better. He didn't say anything to her, waiting to hear what he knew he would definitely be able to hear, knowing the barrier wasn't strong enough.
‘I think it’s cute when Murphy talks in his sleep.’
He barked a laugh at her thoughts, she was too fucking adorable for her own good but he knew damn well what she was talking about, his brother never shut up, even when he was asleep it seemed. Lila opened her eyes, squinting and huffing at him looking so disappointed. He reached out and squeezed her leg.
“Hey now, none o’ that aye? I told ye it would take a few goes. I felt the wall, but it wasn’t enough, it was weak. I could hear ye, but it wasn’t as strong, ye sounded further away. Try again.” He demanded firmly. She was pouting at him, but she closed her eyes to comply once more. Connor noticed she always did as he told her too, unless she was mad at him or his brother for some reason. It gave him a rush of primal satisfaction that she submitted to him every time.
‘I think Murphy is the oldest brother.’
He blanched, so fucking offended and when she opened her eyes she laughed loudly at his face.
“Ye wee cheeky lass, I’ll have ye for that one! Ye know it’s not true, I know ye think it’s me.” He snorted, shooting her a playful scowl. She blushed and smiled, looking down and he knew he had her there, she did think he was the oldest, but unfortunately for him, he knew it was nothing to with the size of their cocks.
“Try again, concentrate harder mo stór (my darling), I know ye have it in ye.” He said confidently, patting her knee before removing his hand once more. She heaved a sigh but nodded, he knew this was hard. He couldn't imagine having to learn all of this now, he was lucky enough to just be able to do it second nature. She had her eyes closed, breathing steady, and he tried to reach out to her again, but this time he couldn't. He kept trying, testing the barrier so to speak, but it didn't budge. He smiled to himself, feeling pleased and proud of her.
After a minute she peaked at him, he knew he had not reacted to whatever she had thought and he was actually curious about what she might have said this time. He was grinning at her, not able to hide his pride as he just looked at her like she was a glass of ice cold water on a hot day.
“You didn't hear me?” She asked hesitantly, a small smile creeping its way onto her face.
“No lass, although I can’t lie, I’m fuckin’ curious te know what it was.” He smirked at her, making her laugh. She pretended to zip her lips and Connor shook his head snorting at her.
A few hours passed and it was now go time for his plan. He was regretting the whole thing though as he stood there on the roof alone. As part of his plan, it meant the twins had to separate in order to get Lila out of the fucking loft for a bit so Connor could get set up. He was on edge as he paced, checking everything over. It all looked so…fucking romantic, he almost gagged to himself. This wasn't him at all, yet he knew this was what he needed to do to show her, not just tell her, he wanted it to be special. People didn't really come up to the roof anymore, although they used to at one point. That's why there were a table and chairs, looking like garden furniture that looked so out of place there on the roof. There were also pots of plants scattered around looking like they'd seen better days. It was 6 now, the sun was starting to set and it made the whole thing feel even more romantic.
The take out was set out on the table, a few tealight candles in the middle of it. There were even some fairy lights twisted around one of the long planters, blinking at him softly. Murphy had thought of all of this, of course he fucking did. Connor wouldn't know how to set up something like this even if it smacked him in the face. And it seemed that despite his brother never being in this situation before, he had clearly thought about it. He’d even suggested bringing a blanket incase Lila got cold.
~
“-and ye should get some o’ those twinkly lights, ye know, like the Christmas ones? But not the colourful ones, the plain ones.” Murphy suggested as they stood side by side at work, putting the meat cuts in boxes.
“Ye mean fairy lights?” Connor asked, looking at his twin for a moment, his face all serious. He was just glad Murphy wasn't ribbing him for all of this, if anything he seemed in his element. Murphy looked at his brother incredulously before he snorted a laugh.
“Aye fairy lights. Ye sure ye need me help brother? Ye seem te know what yer talkin’ about.” Murphy laughed, Connor knew the teasing would have come along eventually.
“Fuck you! I know shit, alright?” He huffed, stuffing the meat in the box. Murphy just laughed louder.
“Mhm, alright. But ye should also take a blanket out for her, it's gettin’ colder now and ye don’t want her gettin’ cold when we’re up there.” He said softly, becoming serious. Connor smiled to himself, it was cute to see his brother looking out for their girl.
~
He was anxious, he kept reaching out to his brother, but he’d have to stop to really think about it since he wasn't there with him. He imagined this was how Lila had been feeling when she was learning all of this. From what he had felt from Murphy, his twin was also anxious to be separated but was also delighted at having some time with their girl. He had taken her shopping, saying they needed booze. Lila had been suspicious from the get-go when Connor had told her he was going to stay behind because he felt under the weather. The longer he waited for them, the more anxious he got, and he was pacing around wondering if he should not tell her at all. Maybe he could just avoid it? His brother would never let him, he knew that, and Lila would only be confused why he had arranged all of this in the first place. He looked off over the building, may he could just jump off and not have to face his responsibilities. He snorted to himself, since when was he turning into Murphy?
He was broken out of his thoughts when the door to the roof opened. Murphy came out first and Connor watched as his twin's eyes scanned the place, eyebrows raised as he looked impressed and he grinned at him. Of course, he was all too pleased with himself, it had all been his idea in the first place. Lila came out from behind Murphy and she stopped dead when she looked around, she looked shocked and Connor bit his lower lip nervously as he watched her. Her shock melted into one of her lovely laughs, the kind she did when she was so fucking happy, and Connor couldn't help but smile as he relaxed. He saw his brother give her a light shove and watched as she turned back squinting at him, no doubt putting two and two together and knowing Murphy had been part of the plan and it was why he had taken her out of the loft without Connor.
She looked back to Connor, walking over slowly as her eyes still took everything in. He glanced to Murphy nervously, his brother was still stood there giving him their privacy and Murphy shot him a smile. He felt the nudge in his mind, his brother comforting him, urging him to just do it. Lila reached him, smiling up at him as she slipped her hands up his shirt, resting her hands on his stomach. She did that a lot he noticed to both him and Murphy, it made him feel good that she wanted to touch him.
“What's all this?” She asked softly, she was overwhelmed, he could feel it, he felt the fucking same if he was honest. His hands came to rest on her hips as he looked down at her, feeling the panic bubbling away in his chest.
“I just...I wanted te do somethin’ nice for ye...te show ye...te show ye that…” He clenched his jaw, getting frustrated at himself that he couldn't seem to just say the words, like something was stopping him. He wished he wasn't so guarded, that he was more like his twin who just said what he was feeling, damning the consequences.
Murphy nudged him again as Lila looked up at him curiously, he closed his eyes and rested his forehead on hers. He wasn't blocking her, he was pushing onto her, letting her feel it so it would help him with what he was trying to say. He heard her gasp, her eyes widening as she looked up at him as she felt the absolute love he had for the lass, the love he was letting her feel. He knew it would be intense, it was intense for him. She didn't say anything, just blinking up at him looking like she was scared to move and break the moment. He took a deep breath, trying to steady his nerves. It was now or never.
“Is tú mo ghrá (I love you).” He said firmly, looking her right in the eyes. He knew she could still feel him and he didn't want to break the poor lass, so he stopped pushing his feelings onto her, letting the words hang in the air.
She looked shell shocked, he wasn't really surprised, she had probably expected to have to wait a lot longer for him to say it, maybe even thought he never actually would. But it was done now, he had said it, and just as his brother had, he felt better to get it off his chest, like a weight had been lifted, making him feel lighter. Her face broke out in a grin and she grabbed his shirt, yanking him forward and crashing her lips onto his. It caught him off guard but he soon got over it, gripping her hip tightly with one hand as the other went to her neck. He could feel her rapid pulse under his hand as he kissed her deeply, and he growled when he felt her nip his lips before pulling away. He actually chased her lips, in a Murphy act of neediness and she snorted at him.
“Is tú mo ghrá freisin Connor (I love you too Connor).” She beamed at him, making his whole body flood with warmth. He already knew she did, since she had said it to his brother, yet to hear her say it directly to him, not just knowing like some kind of after effect from her declaration to his brother, it made his heart squeeze painfully tight and he grinned at her.
He was just looking down at her as she looked back, making fucking moon eyes at each other when he heard Murphy clear his throat as he walked over. Connor looked at him, taking note of the shit eating grin on his brothers face.
“Well then, now that's outta the way, let's eat.” He laughed lightly, sounding so happy. Connor watched with delight as Lila walked over and pinched Murphy's side, making him yelp and grab her around her waist. She squealed and giggled, squirming to get out of his grasp as he laughed joyously. Connor knew Murphy was right as he watched them, it somehow did make it feel complete, like the whole thing had come full circle. They weren't hiding shit from each other now, the feelings were out there and there was no need to hide them anymore. There was no need to feel the intense pressure in his chest every time he felt it so deeply, but wouldn't tell her, there was no need to carry that God awful weight around on his shoulders anymore, because it was out there. They loved her, she loved them back, equally and unconditionally. He didn't need his guard up so much with her anymore, she was one of them, she was fucking a part of them, their very being, their very soul. She was ingrained in them, bound to them some fucking how and for some fucking reason. But he wasn't about to question why God had gifted him and his brother with such an angel, he would just graciously accept it and thank him every day for the rest of his damn life. It was the very least he could do for such a precious gift.

THE LEADER
full name: Adora Jane ‘AJ’ Darke
faceclaim: Lili Reinhart
age: 20
birthday: August 30
gender: Cis woman
pronouns: She/her
four traits: Quick-witted, loyal, headstrong, secretive
worst fear: Not being able to protect her friends
favourite horror movie: Hellraiser
occupation: Assistant to Delia Darke
living situation: The Darke Residence, North Bridgemead
BIOGRAPHY:
It’s a cliché story, monsters under the bed, something sinister hiding in the closet. AJ can remember the shivering, clenching fear running through her tiny childhood body as she stared into the darkness and somehow it seemed the darkness stared back. She doesn’t recall them in clear detail now, nor does she ever talk about them, but she was once plagued by nightmares so clear and crystal, so intense that she swore they were real. Her parents hardly knew what to do with her, a visit to a child psychologist only gave the conclusion that she was seeking out their attention, with a doctor for a father who was always busy and a travel writer for a mother gone for weeks at a time. Their child was still terrified no matter how much time they took off, but they were far too sensible to take her fears seriously.
It wasn’t until AJ turned eight that she stopped believing in the nightmares that plagued her youth. Her parents told her that it was a combination of therapy and medication she continued to take until she was twelve, but she believed it was because she refused to be scared anymore, she started to ignore the noises and the shadows. The only people who she trusted with the truth by that point were her best friends, Arabella and Jessica Mooney, though she never shared details other than the fact that she was sure a monster lived in her room. As she got older and made herself stop believing in it, Jessica’s disappearance then rocked her childhood once more. One day she wasn’t at school anymore and no one had any information for a couple of nosy kids.
By the time she entered high school, she was a little hardened, but she had her best friend by her side and made another. It was as a teenager that AJ began to take an interest in mysteries. She was good at finding lost things and good at connecting dots that others may not notice. No one asked her to do it, she took to it as instinct, dragging her best friends and eventually a straggler in the form of Kody along. They mostly followed dead ends or things with dead ends, but AJ was sure that there was more to the goings on in their town. Her childhood belief in the supernatural was something she suppressed until her great aunt, Delia Darke moved into town from Mississippi. They had long, winding conversations while the older woman smoked cigarettes every time she was forced to visit and eventually the woman opened up, telling her about witches she knew and the ghost that haunted the big, old house she’d left in her home state.
It was still easy to walk the line of belief and disbelief, until your best friends tell you that they’re a werewolf and a witch. It happens in AJ’s senior year, after Dylan begins to pull away from their tight knit group. She’s stubborn and her inability to let it go led to a confrontation and that led to the truth and at that point, there was no denying it. Bridgemead wasn’t just a little off, it was overrun with the supernatural, which explained a lot of screwed up things getting swept under the rug. AJ took time, getting as much information from her friends as she could and beginning to jot it down in what would be their makeshift bestiary. After a year of investigating without a specified crew, she’s put together a group, recruiting people who’ll give them advantages, such as Blair and Kendall. It wasn’t until that night in library that it gained a title: the Scooby Gang, much to her dismay. She’s still working on a cooler sounding name.
AJ fell into the position of leader naturally, she’s always been the bossy type and though arguably she’s not as strong or as powerful as her friends with certain… advantages, she’s almost always armed with some form of defense, most of which provided by her supernatural friends or her aunt. She has chosen to defer college to instead focus on the gig she has going, though it hasn’t exactly paid yet. Not that it matters, since she’s technically working for her aunt Delia who pays her for organising the house and running errands. Plus, she’s kind of blackmailing her father after catching him cheating while her mother was away on a trip to Thailand.
AJ tends to have a one track, stubborn mentality when it comes to investigation. She can be incredibly charming, but that often lends itself to manipulation and naturally she’s not the most truthful, especially considering how she’s also keeping the full spectrum of the supernatural from Jordana and Kendall. The former of which, she also practically tricked into joining. Though she’s incredibly loyal and adores her friends, it’s also not often that she lets anyone close to her to know what exactly is happening under the surface. Suffering in silence and holding it all in is way more her style.

So, here we are in our countdown to October First. I think technically I should actually be, you know, counting down, rather than up but whatever. Count-up sounds weird. So, either way, Hellraiser, Day Three. I present batshit craziness. Hellbound: Hellraiser II.
This film opens with a recounting of the first film's events, followed by a cool scene of a solider opening the Lemarchand Box and being transformed into the nail-headed Cenobite Leader which Scarlet Gospels names "The Hell Priest" and this, as well as each subsequent film, names Pinhead (which out of respect for Barker, who hates the name, I will call the Hell Priest as well).
Following a polite bit of laceration and head-nailing, we cut to Kirsty in a mental institute, coping poorly with the events of the first movie. There are two doctors of note in our institute: Doctor Channard, and his assistant Kyle. Kyle is no one of consequence, since his death contributes exactly nothing more than a raised body-count. Channard on the other hand is a doctor you very much would like to never have. He's played by Kenneth Cranham, a fact I only bring up because this guy discounts Sam Neill so damn hard that I refuse to believe he is in fact not Sam Neill in a weird skin-suit.
Kirsty is visited by an officer investigating Larry's death, and just, over all, the insane remnants of the house. This plot disappears quickly, and really only exists so that Channard can learn of the Mattress on Which Julia Died (here after known as The Mattress on Which Julia Died, or the MoWJD, for short: pronounced Mo.Jed). Channard pulls some strings to acquire the Mattress on Which Julia Died after hearing Kirsty's story, in which she indicates that, as long as the Mo.Jed is in tact, Julia may return from the dead.
I'm going to ask one question, right now, of the movie: how the hell does Kirsty, correctly I might add, deduce that those are the rules? Based entirely on the events of the first film, all Kirsty knows after solving the Lemarchand Box is that Frank is alive and has escaped the Cenobites. Neither she nor Larry actually know of his death in the first place. She certainly is not aware that Frank came back as a result of blood being spilled, or that continued supplies of blood were required for his return to strength. I know it's a popular horror trope for the Final Girl to randomly acquire information between films that is vital for subsequent heroes to learn the rules, but again, Kirsty cannot possibly know that Julia is able to come back from death in this manner. To say nothing of the fact that Julia's death isn't really Cenobite-related, that is, she is not a prisoner of theirs, so I'm not entirely sure how she's able to come back in the first place, but we will get back to Julia later.
Anyway, Channard acquires the Mo.Jed in a conversation Kyle overhears, which results in Kyle sneaking into Channard's house for... reasons. Channard sacrifices one of his patients on the Mattress on Which Julia Died, a scene that is fairly unpleasant to those uncomfortable with self-mutilation and/or severe possessed of severe trypophobia, an event witnessed by Kyle. Julia returns to life via the Mattress. Julia's return to life is nowhere near as cool to watch as Frank's was. It involves skinless blood wrestling and in general, this just lasts longer than is necessary.
Kyle returns to Kirsty, informing him that he believes everything about her story involving the Cenobites. He informs her of the existence of puzzle boxes in Channard's house. Kirsty is convinced that she can save her father from Hell if she uses the box to open the doors to hell (oh yeah, she had a weird vision as well involving a skinless bloody figure, whom she assumes is her father, begging for help).
Channard sacrifices more patients to Julia, whom he is developing a sexual relationship with. Kyle dies to Julia. The movie does not care to linger, so neither do we.
One of Channard's patients is a withdrawn girl named Tiffany, whose specialty, by sheer coicidence, is puzzle solving. I'm glad the gates to Hell are not locked behind a magical puzzle box, or this would be an incredibly useful coincidence.
Channard is obsessed with seeing and learning of the Labyrinths of Hell and uses Tiffany as a human shield for the Cenobites' Wrath. Hellraiser II completely disagrees with Hellraiser I when Tiffany opens the Box and the Cenobites completely ignore her. "Hands do not call us, it is desire!" says the nail-headed Hell Priest, informing us that Channard is not off the hook just because someone else opened the Box in his place because it was his will that caused the Box to be opened. This leniency would have done Kirsty quite a bit of good precisely one movie ago.
Hell is weird. It's a giant Labyrinth of uh... labyrinthiness... where we occasionally see weird shit. The coolest is a clown without eyes. The implication is that the Labyrinth is a different hell for everyone, so I guess for each person it is sort of an Inferno-style ironic punishment. Kirsty finds the House which she believes holds her father but discovers that she has been deceived for it is not Larry, but Frank who called her. Shocking.
The reason Larry called her is because he was bored of his ironic hell: think Tantalus from Greek Mythology, but instead of food, it's moaning women. Julia shows up, everything is on fire, Julia is still pissed that Frank stabbed her at the end of the first movie, rips out his heart.
Oh, and Channard meets the god at the center of the Labyrinth:
Leviathan, Lord of the Labyrinth! I could probably draw this thing...
Julia is apparently acting as a soul-collector for the giant booming lazer-spitting death lozenge. Sure, why not? She sacrifices Channard to it who is transformed into a Cenobite. I guess it works that way?
I forgot, there's a funny little scene with the Cenobites in which the female (I wish these things had better names or titles, so referring to them wasn't so weird...) mocks Kirsty for teasing them. The important detail of this moment is that the Hell Priest transforms the Lemarchand Box into a state that's nice and pointy and looks kind of a lot like Leviathan, Lord of the Labyrinth (which every time I type or think about sounds like a Magic the Gathering, or YuGiOh card), and is now basically unsolvable.
So Kirsty and Tiffany escape the Labyrinth of Hell, only to realize Channard is now forcing all of his patients to solve puzzle boxes. They are mutilated for their efforts. In his new Cenobite state, Channard now speaks exclusively in doctor-related puns that rival Mr Freeze in their ability to completely de-escalate the severity of every scene they are in.
Confrontation between the Hell Priest and Channard! It's whelming. Neither over, nor under. It just whelms. The Cenobites are killed, transforming each back into their human form. Sure, why not?
We return to the Labyrinth so that Tiffany can solve the puzzle and restore... something. Evidently the Leviathan configuration uses Square-One rules, because solving it involves reducing it back to cube shape.
Channard is killed, Tiffany returns the Lemarchand Box to its original state, and this is reflected on the God Leviathan, Lord of the Labyrinth, which also transforms into a giant cube, thus closing the doors to Hell.
Kirsty and Tiffany walk away free!
I have no idea how to even go about considering this a good follow-up to the first movie, because it is so incredibly different, and so incredibly insane, that comparing the two feels kind of pointless. Every element brought-in from the first is basically speed-ran just to get the plot going. This one delights in presenting us with weird, disjointed weirdness. Oh sure, the Cenobitical designs look impressive, the make-up is really well down for skinless Julia and skinless Frank. Leviathan, Lord of the Labyrinth, feels like such an incomprehensible thing that as aggressively inexplicable as it is, it actually kind of works for me.
Yeah, I've seen this one before, and rewatching it reaffirms my belief that I have chosen a seriously bizarre series, if I want to rein-in spooky season. Sit back, ignore the story, inhale that sweet, sweet Christopher Young score, and enjoy the weird.
Tomorrow, however, we will enter into uncharted territory. I have no idea what to expect from Three, but I'm ready to get this stuff going.

SO HEADCANNONS IN THE DEAD OF NITE YAW!!
So this totally just kinda jerked me awake and it’s 3 am here, but what if Superboy from the Young Justice series was doing his thing in Cadmus and Desmond decides to go about keeping the empowered teen under his control a different way but it FUCKING BACKFIRES IN THE WORST (and cutest) WAY POSSIBLE?!
So Superboy is done with his testing one day and the scientists are like “Hey SB, by the way Desmond wanted to talk to you about something” and he just nods
and as they head to see the big D they stop by the Cafeteria because they need to pick something up and this LITTLE TWO-TAILED NEKO CHILD is running around causing havoc and scientists are either passed out from trying to reign the five-year-old hellion in or sobbing into their walkie talkies to ‘send backup because we have a code-red here!’
Anyways Superboy is basically given the child, which is a failed experiment in Desmond’s eyes because she isn’t aging accurately like Superboy did before they stopped. Originally, she was supposed to be about twelve or thirteen, but instead something went wrong and she stopped at five. her mental state is also that of a child and the Genomes are ineffective in her learning process. Anyway, SB is given her as a minion or slave but she’s so sweet and cute and a little hellraiser who just wants a big brother to cuddle her and hold her that he thinks ‘fuck it, Imma be her big brother’ and takes her in.
#Team Superboy#Kitten Babies are the BEST#$Superboy would make a great big bro fite me#Desmond is gonna wanna re-evaluate his life choices

Not sure what you will think of this one, but my mind inhabits the most unusual of places.
It was the last beer and we'd shared it on the way to town for another twelve-pack. I barely knew Antonio. He'd only been there a couple of weeks, but it was the damnedest thing I'd ever seen. Nobody, and I do mean nobody, could talk to a horse the way he did. I thought it was a fluke the first time. Then he did it again and I knew it couldn't be natural.
We had a contract with the state for wild mustang management. It wasn't the easiest job in the world, but I liked the outdoors and it beat hell out of watching my old man slap his third or fourth wife around. Maybe Sheila was the fifth; I'd stopped counting or giving much of a shit by that point. For my purposes at nineteen, it was a godsend they'd hired me and paid my bus fare to Utah. We rounded them up, checked them for diseases, tagged them, sold off the limit, gave them their shots and then trucked them back to the desert.
I'd been at the ranch for maybe three months when he came up one night seemingly outta nowhere and sat next to me at the fire. I greeted him in what little Spanish I knew. "Save it, dude. I speak English." And that was that.
One of the stallions was raising bloody hell in the pen and stirring up the other horses. I stood up to see if I could go quiet him down. Antonio braced a hand on my knee and said as he was standing, "Can I borrow that? Thanks." He took the beer out of my hand, turned it up and walked over to the corral with it in his hand. Sitting the bottle on the post, he hopped the fence, picked the bottle up and walked straight over to the hellraiser.
Just walked inside like he owned the place. He was fixing to get trampled to death near as I could tell, when he grabbed that bad boy by his mane and said something. The horse shook its head side to side. Antonio jerked harder on a handful of hair, the horse quieted down and lowered its head. Then the crazy fuck turned up that bottle, and I swear to God, I saw a mustang down the rest of my beer.
Tossing the bottle over, he walked back to the fence and hopped it again like nothing had happened. Picking up the empty he came back to the campfire and said, "Sorry about that. Can I get you another?"
Stunned, I asked, "What the fuck was that about?"
"Horses can smell fear. And some of them like beer." He walked away leaving me gape-jawed and went to the bunkhouse for another round. When he came back with our longnecks, he twisted the lid off one with his forefinger and thumb. I'd never seen anyone do that either.
Bottle in hand, I asked, "Where you from?"
"Can't say exactly. I tend to move around a lot. Guess you could call me a restless spirit." Bending down, he placed the same hand on my knee again to sit like an old man trying to find his bearings and steady himself. I hadn't noticed it earlier, but the chill of his touch radiated through my jeans to my kneecap.
The hand was just as icy when he extended it. "Antonio. What's your name, cowboy?"
"Jason. Jason Sparks. But most people just call me Rufus or asshole. Seems I'm the low man on the totem pole around here."
He laughed and said, "Not anymore. I just blew into town. I'll be working the night shift."
"Night shift? I wasn't aware we had one."
"Yeah, I'm something of a specialist. These positions can be hard to fill. Not everybody can handle an alcoholic horse with bad dreams."
I literally fell off the log laughing. Struggling to get up, Antonio grabbed the collar of my jacket and pulled me back to an upright position. Without any real effort on my part, I found my ass firmly planted on the log again. If he was superman, I didn't see where he could be hiding the muscles. We were about the same size and weight from what I could tell. He chuckled and mumbled something about horses not being the only alcoholics in those parts.
"I'll drink to that. Let me get us one more beer and then I guess I'll turn in for the night. Where are you bunking?"
"Next to you if there's room still available at the inn. Larry said to grab any empty bed I could find. And yours kind of looked like a mess when I was stowing my gear. But at least it didn't smell like shit."
Stopping to take a piss I wondered how he knew which bed was mine, but in the quest for brewskis I'd forgotten the question by the time I returned. As if reading the mind I was in the process of losing, he stated very matter-of-factly, "You don't smell like a cowboy or a horse with a drinking problem."
Not knowing exactly how to or if I should reply, I thought a moment and said, "Generally speaking, I don't go around smelling cowboys or their sheets, and I damned sure ain't smelling a horse's breath to see if they've been drinking."
He must've sensed my unease. Clinking his bottle against mine, he offered, "Sorry, I have a really weird nose. It smells the strangest damned things. Guess that's why I'm good with the horses. I smell what they smell."
"Ain't nothing wrong with your nose, Antonio," I blurted out. "You have a real nice nose. Most of these ugly old bastards have had their's broken in so many bar fights, I don't really want to think about it, much less how they smell."
Bumping his shoulder against mine, he clinked his nearly empty bottle to mine and said, "Yeah, I'll take loving over fighting any time I can. Probably why I get along with the horses and avoid divorces.
We had minimal contact after that. Other than rolling over or the occasional fart, I didn't hear much out of him for the next two weeks. Except in my dreams if I'm going to be perfectly damned honest about this. And generally speaking, I didn't have much of a habit dreaming about other men, at least not in that way. But there he was, more than once, pretty damned specifically. If I'd been anyone else, it would've been hard to ignore. Only I'd learned to master any direct concern for my actual feelings, and dick management had never been an issue for me personally.
The crew I was working was out on range management. I'd barely been back to the place long enough to sleep, much less for fireside chitchat. Then Saturday night came, we were going to take a couple days off and there he was. Just like in my damned dreams. I have no reason to lie. It was disconcerting when I saw him sprawled out there next to the fire. Not a care in the world, acting as if he'd grown up right out of the ground on that very spot, he smiled.
Looking me directly in the eye as if he hadn't invaded my dreams, he said casually as a cousin, "Hey Jason Sparks, if you're going to the house, could you grab me another cold one?" It had been a particularly hard week, I was bone-ass tired and his nose still wasn't broken in six different places. Two beers later we were left alone with a raging fire and the feelings I was experiencing that matched that blaze. I really wanted to kick his ass. Antonio had seriously fucked with my head, and he didn't seem to know or at least care.
He got up for the third round. It wasn't my knee he touched that sent icy shivers up my spine this time. It was my thigh. About three inches below the part that separates the men from the boys. Close enough for discomfort, I met his glaze and that fire was dancing in his eyes. His nose still wasn't broken, but the quiet smirk on his face made me seriously think about rearranging it.
Fucker scratched my head as he walked away like I was some kind of damned puppy in love. Brought back another round and said, "These are the last ones, Jason Sparks. Let's polish them off and make a run into town. I'm still thirsty. If you'll drive, I'll buy."
That was the night and I guess the moment that changed or ended my life. Something deep inside me could hear it slowly rumbling. I'd seen it in those dreams. I simply didn't have the power to say no or the least of will to fight him. And we weren't struggling. I guess that was what's so odd about it. Everything in my body and soul knew it was happening, even if my conscious mind was slow in catching up. I wanted him. I'd be the worst kind of liar if I said I didn't. And I knew he knew it.
He took my hand and pulled me up off the ground. I could've just as easily staggered to my feet of my own accord. But he wanted that ice running through my veins clashing with my toasted toes inside those boots. And I felt it. Felt it thoroughly as we climbed in the truck and started the motor. Only once did he touch my body on the way to the store. It was completely casual and anything but innocent as the shivers raced up and down my spine.
He went in and came out. I felt very strange. Almost in an out-of-body floating feeling I drove away into the darkness of the rural night. I still remember. It was as vivid, quiet and unstoppable as a freight train bearing down on the family sedan stalled on the side of the tracks.
"Pull over." I could've kept driving, but the truth was that I'd pulled over two weeks before. "I said pull over, Jason Sparks." He didn't have to ask again. And the truth, as he very well knew, is that I'd been wanting to pull over my whole life. The cab of the truck was full of echoes and whispers as I floated above my body while it and he crawled into the back seat. Voices were everywhere, the engine was running and for the first time in my life I didn't give a damn.
I thought in some delirious way I was about to kiss a boy, but that wasn't it. That wasn't it at all. My feelings, those secreted desires weren't important. We weren't boys. I'd become a man without realizing or acknowledging it, and that brief period of my life was about to end abruptly.
It was brutal. How could I possibly forget when he folded down the lambswool collar of my jacket and sunk his teeth into my flesh? I could've fought him off, but I'd already struggled my whole life to be something different than what I was. Antonio was reconciling my conflicts, meeting my innermost longings and he'd bought the beer.

Anna Camp, Keith David, Ashley Laurence, Josh McDermitt & Adam Pally Set to Star in Episodes Directed by Series Showrunner Greg Nicotero
NEW YORK, NY – September 10, 2020 – Shudder, AMC Networks’ premium streaming service for horror, thriller and the supernatural, today announced the start of production on the highly-anticipated second season of its hit series Creepshow in Atlanta, Georgia. The anthology series, which shattered all Shudder records when it debuted last October, is executive produced by showrunner Greg Nicotero (The Walking Dead) and based on George A. Romero’s iconic 1982 movie. The six-episode second season will premiere exclusively on Shudder in 2021. The show is following all safety guidelines and protocols in accordance with SAG-AFTRA, DGA, IATSE, TEAMSTERS, CDC and state and local guidance.
“I’ve never been happier to get behind the camera as I am today,” said Nicotero. “After missing our shoot date in March by just over 48 hours, season 2 of Creepshow hits the ground running as cameras begin to roll. The cast and crew have a level of excitement and enthusiasm I’ve never seen before and it’s inspiring. So many of us in the entertainment industry have been waiting for the day we can begin to do what we do best—to have some fun together creating new worlds, new adventures and new thrills.”
“Season one was a monster hit for us, setting viewership records across the board while becoming the best-reviewed new horror series of 2019,” said Craig Engler, Shudder’s General Manager. “For season 2, Greg Nicotero and his team have outdone themselves with bigger and bolder stories, new incredible creature designs, and clever twists that truly live up to the show’s tagline, ‘The Most Fun You’ll Have Being Scared’.”

Anna Camp (Pitch Perfect) and Adam Pally (The Mindy Project) will star in “Shapeshifters Anonymous” Parts 1 and 2, written by Greg Nicotero, based on a short story by J.A. Konrath (Last Call) about an unlucky soul who finds himself in need of a werewolf support group; Keith David (The Thing), Ashley Laurence (Hellraiser) and Josh McDermitt (The Walking Dead) will star in “Pesticide,” written by Frank Dietz (I Hate Kids), in which an exterminator makes an infernal bargain; and “Model Kid,” written by returning Creepshow writer John Esposito (season one’s “Night of the Paw”), is about a 12-year-old monster fan who turns to hand-built model kits to escape his unhappy reality. Additional titles, casting and directors will be announced soon.
In its first season, Creepshow smashed records for Shudder in number of viewers, new subscriber sign-ups and total minutes streamed to become the most watched program in Shudder history, followed by a successful run on AMC. The show was a hit with critics as well as fans as one of 2019’s best-reviewed new genre series, with a 97% Fresh rating on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes®.
