Alastor's head tilts, his sound effects giving a squeak of confused interest. Ah. Is he genuinely sorry for saying something that brings Alastor back to his time on Earth?
"Do you smoke?" He asks before snapping his fingers and summoning two cigars. He places one by Lucifer in case he takes The Radio Demon up on his offer.
"When I was fifteen, a group of... supremacists resurfaced. A group that was first born after it became illegal to own people like me as property. You're only free because we let you be is something they would say... as they burned down a family's home, a church, or stood over the body of a..." his sound effects click and whirr before he decides against using any terminology. "Man who looked as I did."
He lights the cigar before drawing in a long, tensed drag. "But! I know you didn't mean it that way!"
With that, his ears perk forward, listening intently to Lucifer speak. It sounds like any other monarch who felt his pride or power was threatened-- that is... until the end.
"... Might I ask what that precious thing was?" He asks in a softer voice. "Feel free to tell me no~"
Lucifer’s goat like ears twitch and perk up at the faint sound, “ah did I make a human faux pass again? I’m sorry ..” well that only stung a bit .. hmm it seems he was starting to become closer to Alastor .
“Everything is a radio pun with you isn’t it ?” He chuckled . “Very well it was back in the 17th century .. My Lilith was doing a lovely performance in the palace gardens for me.. when a group of Hellborn let lose a pack of scavengers in my garden .. they had been helped by one of my old guards family line .
They attacked us.. of course we bested them but Lilth had gotten hurt .. I wouldn’t rest till I found the group responsible .. the hellborns told me what i needed to know once I was done with them . “
He could still feel the lingering anger at them.
“Had my guards raid them in the night and brought them to the square .. I executed them myself .. the entire family line . Lilth and I had lost something precious from that fight .. I wouldn’t stop until I took something from them .”

If you’re fighting for children’s rights and safety and you’re also fighting to normalise and romanticise child abuse in fiction or real life, you are not fighting for children’s rights.
Children are an oppressed class and the media is used to reinforce oppression and bigoted mindsets against minorities.
Fiction is one of the most powerful tools of propaganda we have. Art can and has changed societies.
If your art is validating bigoted ideologies, you are validating bigoted ideologies.
It might not be real, but your audience is.
It’s fine and helpful to discuss oppression and other upsetting themes in art, but to validate them is a different story.

TW for mention of extreme right-wing ideology and mentions of racist/bigoted groups
What is it with extreme right-wing ideologies and blood symbolism/references? The nazis had "blood and soil", the kkk had the blood-drop cross, and now the anti-vax movement have taken to calling themselves "purebloods". It's weird.

tw // references to the KKK
When I was 11 I was kinda unintentionally sheltered and/or stupid???? Because I just wasn't really aware of a lot of things. I meant well but lacked knowledge
I'm also white, and my friends back then were an overall mixed group because of where I went to school. One of these friends was a black girl who I think was called Kiki? Something with 2 Ks in it. Us being 11 year olds, we bantered quite a lot, and I in particular liked to go "heehee I'm gonna murder you :D" for 11 year old reasons I guess. This was totally lightheartedly reciprocated by everybody
I was also a really big fan of acronyms, don't know why because it was very impractical in practice. I can go back to my old google docs and see that all of their titles are like "T.I.A.A (This Is An Acronym)". It's horrible in retrospect and I don't know why I liked doing this so much
But anyways, my friends and I were bantering in one of our regular cycles, and I was like offhandedly "I'm gonna kill you Kiki >:(". This would have been fine if I didn't like being dramatic. I instead made a groupchat with 2 or 3 other friends from that class period, titled it "Kill Kiki". And because I was horribly obsessed with acronyms and was not AT ALL aware of the existing acronym, I put (KKK) in little parentheses thinking the repeated letters if I stretched Kiki's name into 2 letters were a silly coincidence.
...AAAAAAAA and then my friends were like "what" and explained to me who the KKK were. YEAH I deleted the groupchat and dropped the full thing. This happened years ago, and I'm not friends with anyone present there anymore except for 1 person who hasn't mentioned it ever, but I occasionally remember this incident and die inside a little
.

you did not just compare me saying all white people are racist to being a nazi, a slave owner, and a member of the KKK 😭
white people benefit from white supremacy and racist institutions, and all white people are racist at some level. they're not all nazis, but they all profit from white supremacy and learn racism from their peers. you can work to unlearn that racism, but the work of unlearning that is never done
also, it's wild that you called the way that I, a brown person, talk about racism "the whitest thing ever" and then revealed yourself to be white and said some of the whitest things ever
you're not better than other white people. you're not free of racism and prejudice. in fact, your comments tell me that you actually don't understand racism at all, not even a little bit
you are not "very very aware of racism". you're a self-congratulating racist who thinks that you're anti-racist because you don't outright yell about hating people of colour
Tumblr media
white ppl have no concept of the pain of finding a community that you belong to and then discovering the deeply entrenched racism in said community

I'm so tired of addressing the same arguments from people who believe in the Hypodermic Needle Theory. Well, here we go again...
Gonna try to keep this post short.
Tumblr media
• "Uncritically consuming content"
Media audiences aren't passive absorbers of messages, even when they watch a movie casually and don't go write a meta post about it on Tumblr or Reddit.
• "Your brain state"
• Subliminal messaging
You're the one who hasn't heard of subliminal messaging, buddy:
"They can't make you go buy something you don't want or vote for a political candidate you don't like," Zimmerman said. "The messages just aren't that powerful."
• Propaganda
• The Birth of a Nation — This is on par with Jaws being used as a "gotcha," but much more annoying.
“People were primed for the message. Hard to argue this was a distortion of history when the history books at that time said the same.” — Paul McEwan, film studies professor at Muhlenberg College
The film was made during a time when Jim Crow laws — based on white supremacy ideology, which had existed long before the film's creation — still enforced segregation in the United States.
The film reached people who were already racists, and would've continued holding those anti-black beliefs, with or without The Birth of a Nation.
I'd go as far to say that the civil rights movement alone would've probably pissed racists off into reviving the KKK — if the film hadn't inspired William Joseph Simmons.
Ergo, The Birth of a Nation itself did not turn people into racists. They were already that way due to the time period they were living in:
And their education:

Em I the only black person that doesn’t like it when people compare muggleborns to black people. Like the KKK and death eaters are nothing alike. One is fictional and the other is actual thing that happened. And even if twasn’t fictional it wouldn’t be the same. Nothing in canon suggests that Muggleborns are as oppressed as black people. In fact the only person who seems to care Hermione is Mugglborn is Draco. And later on Voldemort. Which has never been my experience
I suppose this is one of the problems of using the fantasy genre to work through themes of historical oppression. I think JK was more going for a Nazi persecution corollary, but either way, it still leaves us with the complex issue of fictionalized fantasy versions of history. They can overly simplify issues and also conflate multiple issues. All forms of oppression are not the same, and blurring those lines can either be from lack of information and subtlety, or a tactic to lessen the impact or importance of any one form of oppression. The major themes of ‘don’t judge people on things that are a matter of birth’ is an important one to have children grow up with, just like ‘don’t judge people for being different from you.’ But we can also see that when these stories are written with little attention to ‘systems are built with specific groups of people in mind and sheer indifference to the ways these systems intentionally or unintentionally hurt the people it wasn’t designed to serve or was designed to keep out, and an unwillingness to change or examine these systems causes on-going harm that killing the bad guy with the evil laugh will not fix’. Not to mention ‘in what ways are our heroes complicit in the system, and in what ways do they benefit from it?’
The fact remains though, that knowing why Death Eaters were bad or why the Jedi were the good guys or why Thanos had to be stopped, teaches us about heroes and villains, about good triumphing over evil. But it rarely explains how oppression happens, what it looks like, or anything about the specific experiences of the human beings on this planet living with real oppression right now.

Watercolor class got so wild today.
For some context, it’s an 8am - 10:45 am studio class on Watercolor Painting. Normally because it’s so goddamn early, the class stays really quiet with minimal talking and joking. Everyone just sort of hugs their coffee and paints and tries not to fall asleep. But today the Professor (Scott) decided to do a demo on using different mediums to create a texture, and for some reason the class decided to unveil just how crazy they normally are when they’re more awake.
So here’s some highlights, because it was fucking hilarious.
Scott, upon forgetting what a grease pencil is called: *serious whisper* What are you??
Student 1: That’s it, Scott’s finally lost it Student 2: Huh what happened to the professor? Student 3: I dunno one minute he was talking to his pencil and the next we new he’d jumped off the roof. Guess he just snapped or something.
Scott, staring at a crayon after making a mistake: I trusted you!
Student 1, snickering: An epic betrayal Student 2: You just come home one day and the crayon is hanging out with a pen in your desk drawer Student 1: Scandalous
Scott: It’s a clansman hat Student: No it’s a witch’s hat Scott: N... no it’s not Student: Look it’s almost Halloween and you painted it with a color called moonglow it is a witch’s hat.  Scott: I AM THE MAKER OF THIS HAT Student: I BELIEVE IN THE WITCHES
Student 1: Wait, we’re not modern art?” Student 2: Nope, modern art ended years ago. We’re contemporary Student 1: So like 20 years from now, we’ll still be contemporary art? Scott, sarcastically: Oh no probably not. We’ll be Neon-Post-Self-Inflective-Contemporary-Modernism or something.”
Student 1: Oral hygiene? I thought you said moral hygiene. Student 2: Just imagine a billboard with toothpaste but “MORALS” plastered across the toothpaste tube. Student 3: Or like the really extra Axe Body Spray commercials but with moral parables tacked onto them Someone in the back of the room: MORAL HYGIENE *body spray noises*
Student 1: Wait you’re painting with salt? Scott: Yeah, where should I put it do you think? Student 1: Ohmigod put it all in one place. Someone in the back of the room: *loud gasp* salt bomb? SALT BOMB.
And then my personal favorite, after the demo was finally over:
Class: *complete silence* Scott: It’s... so quiet in here now.... Student: That’s because we’re working. Scott, pretending to tear up: So what, you guys don’t like me anymore?! Student: OHMIGOD

I shouldn’t be surprised either, but the eagerness the imperials have to hang people chills me too the bone.
Because it’s a control thing. And that imperial officer admitted it. They know Paaks did nothing. They know. But they’re still comfortable taking a life just to “show them who’s boss”.
It’s disgusting. But it’s real. When the empire references Nazi Germany and the KKK at the same time like this, it is made very clear. And I’m glad that the show leans into the historical intentions that were laid out at Star Wars’ inception.
It has never been shown this harshly or directly but it’s good that it does because it doesn’t shy away. This is bold to do. It is sad to see these actions on screen, but they hold weight because the disregard for life mirrors reality in a lot of ways and places. Both past and definitely present.

Jared’s new tattoo reminds me of all those cops that get tattoos with “hidden” meanings when it’s really just a nazi or kkk symbol. Let’s assume it is meant to be a Texas pride tattoo. Idc if you’ve lived in Texas your entire life and love it there now is not really the time to be proud of Texas. They’re one of the most anti-abortion and anti-LBTQ+ states. And couldn’t he just get a map of the state of Texas or something?
Yeah, those are called dogwhistles, most people overlook it but people in the group it's meant for understand it. And yeah there's gotta be more than that one tattoo that he could use for his texas pride
