The final pages of The Little Black Book include a skinhead character (who was the prototype for ideas for a graphic novel I later roughed out but didn’t finish- more of him later- in fact he has his own whole sketchbook);a very special offer available at B&Q; actual very rare photographs of the Tripartite Person of God and His Archangel princes, as he created an upgrade on Adam, and was well pleased. Sketchbook 5 also records my realisation that being out and queer was not just about the excitement of going on marches against unequal laws and the potential of queer bashing but that I had been letting the team down by not actually looking at enough men. I began my studies by considering the joys of large, thick-set men such as rugby players and bouncers with strong masculine features (although my reading on gender at the time advised me that this was just societal construct). There was no huge representation of what gay culture would call bears at the time and the clubs available were often like ghettos so I was often only presented with straight men who looked like this. PC Garfield from the Bill had quite sticky-out ears and that seemed wonderful to me at the time. I never missed an episode. Sadly, it seemed that big men were beautiful but only ever viewed from a safe distance. My own body dysmorphia at the time made me feel excruciatingly slender and I tried everything to put weight on but to no avail.
