nuclear power is impressive until you get up to why. "we use the most precisely engineered machinery ever created to split atoms to release energy" oh yeah how come? "boil water to turn a fan" get the fuck out
#its genuinely crazy the math and engineering that go into making these absolutely massive steam turbines#its an incredible balancing act to optimize between the interconnected variables of pressure velocity and temperature in order#to extract as much energy as possible from the steam as it moves through the system#especially like. those generators need to maintain a very precise rotational speed in order to prevent the coupled generator#from going out of phase with the power grid#(3000 RPM for 50 Hz grids and 3600 RPM for 60 Hz grids)#like the reactor part sounds like a lot of engineering work (and it is!) but like. the turbine is fucking incredibly impressive too#each one of those turbine stages needs to have very specifically shaped blades in order to control steam pressure drop and steam velocity#and the blades need to be able to physically handle being in a wet (at least for nuclear plants where the steam is pretty wet) high temp#environment and constantly being spun at high rotational speeds for decades at a time.#we had to develop specialized nickel titanium superalloys with tightly controlled crystalline structures in order to build turbines this big#stare into the depths of “wow we really just use steam to spin a big fan that sounds simple” and you encounter#the lifes work of thousands of mathematicians computer engineers material scientists and mechanical engineers#the first device we could call a steam turbine was made as a toy in tthe first century ancient greece and egypt#the first steam turbine with a practical use was described in 1551 in Ottoman Egypt. it was used to turn a spit of meat over a fire.#the first modern multistage impluse steam turbine was made in 1884 and revolutionized electricity generation and marine propulsion#in the 141 years since there have been more improvements than one could even list#from major design changes credited to great men to miniscule efficiencies and optimizations gained from tweaking the composition of an alloy#idk. i think its beautiful to think about the web of human knowledge woven collectively by thousands of hands across history#could you imagine what the ancient greek engineers who first put together the prototype for an aeolipile would think to see what we have#made now. could they even recognize our designs as belonging to the same category of object as their little toy#anyway#appreciate the humble steam turbine with the same eye you give to the reactor core#mine#just my thoughts

Destroying Villages In Order To Save Them
A salient feature of the last decade or so has been the steady rise of bizarre cults with legions of fervent true believers, even though we have virtually zero rational grounds for believing in the central tenets of these secular religions. The weirdest thing about these cults is the way in which their true believers ardently sacrifice the very things they claim they wish to save. Consider the following:
1). COVID-19 illness presents close to ZERO risk to healthy children, but this hasn’t stopped the Vaccine Cult from demanding that children receive the dangerous, experimental shots that are neither effective nor safe. The most spectacular irrational outcome is the high incidence of vaccine-induced myocarditis among young athletes from whom COVID-19 posed zero risk.
2). Wind turbines are extremely inefficient producers of electricity that kill hundreds of thousands of migratory birds, wreak havoc in the marine environment when they are placed offshore, and ruin the physical beauty of the landscape. Nevertheless, the bizarre Climate Cult insists that wind turbines are a key weapon in our arsenal for reducing carbon emissions, which the Climate Cult fervently believes to be causing a rise in the earth’s temperature. Destroy nature in order to save it!
3). A human male will obviously have an unfair advantage over a female in almost all competitive sports. And yet, in their fervent proselytization of the bizarre Transgender Cult, votaries have largely succeeded in destroying women’s sports and the dreams of the girls and women who train for them.
4). Importing legions of young men from Arab countries into European countries in which these young men struggle to integrate and find gainful employment has resulted in a marked reduction of public safety in European cities, especially for young women. Yesterday here in Vienna, I had lunch with the former chief of police, who told me that stabbings are indeed much higher in certain districts of Vienna than they ever were in the past. The perpetrators are almost always young males who came to Vienna during the 2015 European migrant crisis.
And yet, the Diversity Cult persists in its bizarre, fetishistic belief that racial diversity per se is necessarily a good thing. Yesterday evening, while pondering the irrationality of the Diversity Cult, I saw the news that a young, foreign-born man stabbed 11 people and killed three at the "Festival of Diversity" that was underway in Solingen, Germany. Diversity will purportedly strengthen and revitalize Germany in the 21st century, even when it results in mass homicide.
5). Already in the year 2015, I began to perceive that the oligarchs who run Ukraine were making a huge mistake by getting into bed with the oligarchs who run the U.S. intelligence agencies, military-industrial complex, and Biden Crime Family. Cozying up with the U.S. military and intel establishment would certainly frighten the Russian Bear and make him aggressive. Far better for the poor people of Ukraine to tone down the nationalism and seek friendly and cooperative relations with Russia.
Note that the exact same reasoning has applied to every country in the Western Hemisphere in their relations with the United States government since President Monroe announced his Monroe Doctrine. As the former Mexican President, Porfirio Diaz once lamented: “Poor Mexico—so far from God, and so close to the United States.”
Imagine if the government of Mexico had, in the year 2014, starting welcoming Russian military and intel agency guys to set up shop in Mexico near the U.S. border. While anyone with a shred of common sense could immediately recognize the folly of this, the bizarre Sacred Territory of Ukraine Cult insists that the poor Ukrainian people fight till the last cartridge is fired instead of negotiating with Russia. Again, destroy Ukraine in order to save it!

How Gas Turbine Produces Electricity and Its Components
Today, most of the power plants essentially install Gas Turbine Control Systems. To produce electricity, the gas turbine works by heating the mixture of air and fuel at very high temperatures that in turn spin the turbine blades. The spinning turbine generates initiatives that randomly convert the energy into electricity. The gas turbine is used along with the steam turbine in the combined power plant to develop power efficiently.
The Gas and Steam Turbine Control System produces electricity in the following steps- 1.Ignites Air and Fuel Mixture- The gas turbine system compresses the air and then mixes it with the fuel which is burned at extremely high temperatures that result in the production of a hot gas.
2.Hot Gas Spins Turbine Blades- The hot air and fuel mixture then passes through blades in the turbine that spins both of them very quickly.
3.Fast-Spinning Blades Turns to Drive Shaft-The fast-spinning turbine blades then rotate the turbine drive shaft.
4.The Turbine Rotation Controls The Generator-The spinning turbine is linked with the rod within the generator that in shots the large magnet which is surrounded by coils of copper wire.
5.The Magnet of the Generator Interchanges the Electrons and Produces Electricity-The generator that is revolving very fast produces a powerful magnetic field that in turn lines up the electrons available around the copper coils and then in turn allows them to move. The movement that happens through the wire of electrons is called electricity.
Components of Gas Turbine System The majority of fuel power plants install combustion gas turbines. The combustion turbines are installed in various power plants of today's era. These are basic complex machines that are made of three main components-
 The Compressor- This is one of the main components of gas turbine systems that induce air into the engines, create pressure and then feed the same into the combustion chamber at speeds of hundreds of miles per hour.
 The Combustion System- This component of the gas chamber is made up of a ring of fuel injectors that inoculate a sturdy stream of fuel into the combustion chambers, in which the fuel gets mixed with the air. The resultant mixture is then burned at extremely high temperatures exceeding 200 degrees F. The combustion then creates a high-temperature, high-pressure gas stream which then enters the turbine section and expands it.
 The Turbine- It is an intricate collection of alternate stationery and spinning aero foil-section blades. As hot combustion gas tends to expand through the turbine, it then spins the rotating blades. The rotating blades then perform dual functions- first, they drive a compressor to induce more pressurized air into the combustion section. As a result, it spins a generator to produce electricity.
