hi! i loved your writing on dallas. could you please make a pt.2 of riverside where they're back at Buck's and they share an intimate moment (nsfw or not). thank you!
Riverside
Part Two
Pairing: Dallas Winston x Fem!Reader
Summary: Second part of ‘Riverside’ follows you and Dallas on the walk home and what happens after!
Warnings: SMUT. MDNI. Kissing, touching, slightly dominant Dallas, oral and fingering (both reader receiving.)
Word Count: 2.5k
A/N: Thank you for the request!
The walk back to Buck’s shouldn’t have taken that long, but the way you kept cussing under your breath with each squelch your shoes would make beneath your wet feet slowed things down to a snail's pace, enough for Dallas to groan inwardly and light another cigarette.
“You want my shoes?” He asked, pausing in his steps as he turned toward you, causing you to walk face-first into his chest due to your preoccupation with your damn shoes.
“What? No, no. I’m okay.” You replied, brushing your hair from your face where it’d flown forward when you’d all but head-butted Dallas’s chest. Luckily he didn’t care, his fingers moving to help you clear your face of your still-wet hair as he smirked around his cigarette.
“You’re stubborn and you’re cold, even with my jacket.” He murmured, leaning down ever so slightly to meet your eyes. “Still tryin’ to say you aren’t cold?”
You scowled at him then, the look making Dallas laugh as he turned back on his heel to continue the walk with you following in tow, sulking because you knew he was right, even if you didn’t want to admit it.
The leap into the river had led to Dallas kissing you, so you couldn’t say you regretted it all too much. Hell, you’d probably have done it in December if it meant Dallas’s hands found their way to your waist and breasts as they did back on the riverbed. The thought alone made your cheeks flush, thighs clenching together as you tried to clear your mind from your lascivious thoughts of the man walking in front of you.
You knew Dallas well enough to know that he would’ve walked the trek back to Buck’s barefoot if you’d asked him to, but you didn’t want to, maybe due to a combination of your stubbornness and not wanting to be the cause of Dallas accidentally walking on some broken glass given how the streets of Tulsa were on the best of days.
Thanks to a walk through a nearby abandoned apartment complex, you two were able to enter the city within five minutes. Dallas didn’t seem to like the idea of walking you alone, made much apparent by his continuous fiddling with his switchblade in his jean pocket as his other arm held you securely by his side. Nobody’d ever mess with you, not with Dallas by your side, he’d fought nearly everyone in town and then some, it felt like having your personal guard dog as you walked beneath the flickering streetlights, your gaze locked straight ahead, except for whenever you felt the pull to look at Dallas.
As you both walked up the street leading to Buck’s bar you quickly became aware of the sheer amount of cars surrounding the establishment. Dallas seemed to realize just as you did, a curse falling from his lips as you two squeezed your way between muscle cars and broken-down pieces of junk you found yourself amazed even made their way to the bar. The music was loud before he opened the front door, making you wince somewhat as you leaned into his side, allowing him to guide you through the dense crowd and cigarette smoke toward the stairs.
You thanked your lucky stars that nobody called upon Dallas besides a few greetings directed toward himself and you, not wanting to linger where the smoke was the heaviest and the conversations consisted of drunk individuals trying to scream over each other to ensure they were heard.
He opened his bedroom door for you then, holding it open as you walked beneath his arm into the warmth that poured from his room. It smelled heavily of him and his cologne, the scent making you feel safe, almost reminiscent of how a home should feel. You walked over to his bed, draping his leather jacket over the metal railing at the end of the bedframe.
There was a moment when you turned to face him, clothes clinging to your wet frame as his eyes looked you over. There were unspoken words exchanged between you then, your hands fumbling with the fabric of your shirt as you shifted on your feet, waiting for him to make the first move. Despite the warmth of the room you still felt your skin alight with goosebumps, a slight shiver running up your spine as your body acclimated to the new temperature.
The way you shivered made Dallas frown, clicking his tongue against his teeth as he moved toward you, both of you now enveloped in the warmth of his bedroom. The music still raged downstairs, some band you couldn’t recognize, but the only thing you could focus on was the way Dallas touched you over your clothes. His eyes flickered up to meet yours then, a smile evident on his face.
“Told you, didn’t I? Shouldn’t have gone in that water, got you shivering. Can practically feel your heartbeat through your skin, doll.”
There was always something electric in the way that Dallas touched you, his hands drifting up and underneath your shirt, fingertips ghosting over your skin. He knew how to make you writhe, to make you desperate enough to consider begging, which for someone like you didn’t come easily. You could feel his fingertips drift over your breasts, thumbs brushing over your nipples as he leaned down to press another kiss to your neck.
This was gentle, incredibly gentle for how irritated you’d made him earlier in the night. Something in his eyes made you not question it, his brow furrowed and lips parted as if he were committing every facet of your body to his memory. You only caught onto his game when your back involuntarily arched, pushing your chest into his palms. He abruptly pulled away, brown eyes flickering up to you as he tilted his head to the side.
“Can’t move while I’m tryin’ to warm you up, doll.” He stated, his voice reminiscent of how you’d chastise a kid for stealing something from a candy store. It made a whine die in the back of your throat, face skewing in desperation as you fought internally with yourself to be good.
After a moment he resumed, cupping your waist before sliding his hands down to your waist, then trailing them to the front of your jeans to slowly unbutton them. How he managed to keep his cool in such a manner never failed to amaze you, while your chest was heaving deeply with each breath he looked completely calm, occasionally narrowing his eyes whenever you began squirming against his touch.
As he pulled your jeans down, he moved down with them, effectively propping himself up on his knees in front of you as he helped you to step out of the denim. Once your legs were free he rubbed his hands along your calves, thighs, everything he could get his hands on. And then he started kissing along your skin, open-mouthed, lewd kisses that made you instinctively grab at his hair.
“Skin’s still so cold.” He whispered, fingers hooking around the band of your underwear as he slowly pulled it down to expose your glistening cunt to the night air. After he helped you to step out of your underwear you watched with bated breath as he began trailing another series of kisses up your legs, stopping short of your inner thigh. His hands grasped at the plushness of your ass, squeezing it hard enough to pull a squeak from you as you nearly stumbled on your own two feet.
“Dal, I-“ Before you could utter another word he moved between your legs, tongue flattening out against your folds. Your knees immediately buckled, causing you to stumble where you stood as you grasped at the skin of your thighs, silently pleading with yourself to not move - you didn’t want him to stop.
Your lips parted, whined out noises pouring from you as his tongue continued working between your folds, his eyes cast up at you as his grasp on your hips and ass tightened. You weren’t sure how many women he’d done this with, but all you could think of was the warmth and wetness of his tongue as it swirled around your clit and how he moved it in an almost expert like manner.
“Fu-uck.” You groaned, brows furrowing as your hips began moving against his mouth, pulling a grunt from his throat as he harshly slapped at the plush skin of your ass.
“Stop moving.” He all but growled out, quickly moving back between your legs as he began sucking at your clit, bringing his hand forward to curl two fingers into your cunt, slowly pumping them within you to match the tempo of his tongue.
Whatever coldness lingered against your skin from the frigid night air was long gone, replaced by a white-hot longing as his fingers pumped within you, the lewd sound of your arousal against his tongue and his fingers stretching you out filling the room along with your own near pathetic whines.
You could feel your orgasm building, inner walls clenching down around his fingers as he continued laving at your clit like a man starved. Every inhibition he’d had prior about having you stay still was long out the window as your fingers laced through his hair, locking onto the dark brown strands as you ground down against his face. You could’ve sworn you felt him smile against your cunt as your moans took up an octave, head falling back as you came against his tongue.
He slowly removed his fingers, taking a moment to pepper kisses against your inner thighs as you struggled to catch your breath. His hands smoothed up your sides as he moved to stand, the wetness once on his fingers pressed against your skin. You couldn’t bring yourself to be bothered, not when he’d made you cum against his tongue with enough ferocity to have your breath locked from your lungs as if you’d been winded.
He removed his jeans then, tossing them along with his belt into the far corner of his room, the fabric and metal falling with a soft clank. You didn’t have to look to know how hard he was, feeling him press against your stomach as he leaned down to capture your lips in a kiss. You could taste yourself on his tongue, your hands threading through his hair as you leaned up onto your toes to deepen the kiss. Only when your lungs were aching for oxygen did you pull away.
His lips were glistening in the moonlight that poured in through the bedroom window, his eyes dark and full of want. You were still weak, chest still heaving from your last orgasm as he scooped you up, helping your legs to wrap around his hips as he moved you both back to his bed.
You could feel the desperation pooling off of him, how his breath caught in his chest as he felt your bare cunt against his cock. How he looked at you made you feel as though you two had been doing this for years, a deep layer of intimacy in his gaze that you doubted he’d ever shown to anybody but you.
As he laid you down on his bed he made his way between your thighs, right hand moving to lift your thigh to drape it loosely over his hip. Neither of you felt the need to say anything, an unspoken layer of trust between you being heavily apparent as he leaned down to connect your lips again as he pushed into you.
The accompanying stretch felt heavenly, far bigger than his fingers. You could only gasp against his lips as he waited for you to nod, giving him some sort of sign that you were alright enough for him to move. As soon as you nodded he began rocking his hips, his brows furrowing as he tried desperately to conceal the low grunts that threatened to leave him.
“So tight.” He whispered, pressing a kiss to the pulse point of your throat as he rolled his hips against you. “So fucking tight and warm.”
His voice was wavering, a noise akin to a whine falling from his lips as your legs tightened around his waist, pulling him deeper into you. As his cock rocked into you, he reached a hand down between your bodies, swirling his middle and ring finger around your clit in sync with each roll of his hips.
The combination left you reeling, eyes screwing shut as your arms wrapped around his neck, fingers digging into the muscle that lined his back as you began moving your hips to meet his movements halfway, each thrust hitting so deep within you that you swore you could feel him from the outside had you placed your hand on your lower stomach.
This was more intense than you had bargained for when he’d taken you upstairs, more intimate than you’d overheard from when he’d take women during parties. This was Dallas in a new light, one without the borders he usually shone around himself. You couldn’t help but crave it, crave all of him with each thrust within you.
With a strangled groan his grasp on the sheets beside your head tightened, his fingers against your clit picking up in their pace as he whispered against your skin. “I’m gonna cum.”
The words left you speechless, only nodding as you felt your second orgasm of the night building within your lower stomach. You pressed languid kisses to his jaw, moaning against his damp skin in between each kiss. His hand moved from the bedsheet then, moving to cradle your face as he leaned against you, effectively pressing you against the mattress as he rutted into you.
“Dallas-“ Was all you could muster, cunt spasming around his cock as you came undone, the feeling of you tightening around him causing him to grunt. He pushed himself up onto his elbows, hand quickly moving to pull himself out of you, cum shooting in hot ropes against your lower stomach as he did.
He looked ethereal when he orgasmed, brows screwed together, lips parted as he grunted, cum spilling over his fingers only to drip along the top of your cunt. As he caught his breath he looked up at you, his cheeks flushed crimson as he moved to kiss you, not bothering to fill his lungs with much-needed air in preference over having your lips against him for as long as he could stand it.
After you two pulled away, both needing to breathe, he wrapped his arms around your center, pulling your back flush to his chest, pressing another kiss to the back of your neck just as he had by the river. The feeling made you hum in contentment, resting your cheek against his pillow as he intertwined his legs with yours, his breaths growing soft, almost in tandem with your own.
“Told you I could warm you up.” He whispered against your skin, a cocky grin evident in his words, causing you to roll your eyes as you laughed.

Shout out to @frogs4frogs for finding these picrews for spidersonas for shawties that can't draw! I didn't want to hop on her post with her Sona and rambles for jt, So! I made my own to ramble on lol.
This is Etta Hampton (Ezy) aka The Recluse the one and only Spiderwoman of New Tulsa on earth 9539
Etta is 17 and lives with her Uncle Barney who owns the Urban Stables that most people in North use for boarding. Etta's lived with her Uncle Barney since she was seven after the death of her parents in a mysterious OzCorp Refinery explosion. She has an army of aunties and cousins that live on the East Coast in Old York or DC.
Etta is incredibly smart, soft spoken and caring. She loves ATV or horse trail riding, welding, pottery, and botany. To the point she plans on triple majoring civil engineering, mechanical engineering and sculpture after she graduates from the Parker's Gifted Academy. Her uncle is her biggest supporter for her education and hobby pursuits and gave her her own garage/studio to work in.
Etta is best friends with the fire chief's son Bart Brown (9539's Hobie), the Bugle Radio's owner's daughter Merry Jameson ( 9539's MJ) and Harry O. (9539's green goblin who just causes more chaos over harm, absolutely hate his father) who the world fattest crush on her and she is 100% oblivious to it.
When Etta was 14 she stormed off after an argument with various of her visiting aunties about her "manish" pursuits she took her four-wheeler and went off trail to a forbidden zone that was the contamination and closed of remains of the OzCorp Refinery. While exploring the remains, Etta was bitten by a radioactive Brown Recluse when security guards had cornered her and she was forced to hide in one of the old R&D offices.
She has the usual power set for a spider person: Spidey sense, the ability to stick to walls, super strength and super agility. Along with long sharp nails that are extremely durable and sharpened canines that have a paralytic and necrotic venom. Etta has two specialty abilities: one is to produce different kinds of acid from her hands and apply it to her organic webs to create different kinds of traps or help her to escape. The other is an ability to control her temperature to the point she can send heat waves of energy off her body or stun/shock others with a fridged touch.
As the Recluse her biggest foes are Cyclone Sandman, Cotton Mouth, and King Scorpion. She has a half allyship with the for hire thief/ spy Prowler (Miles M. Davis) and Green Goblin (she usually just catches and releases with his antics) the fire chief and sheriff work well with her. In school as her regular persona her academic rival is Miles.
Etta tricked out an ATV to fit her theme and made it hover/wall fly so she can still get to places that don't have the highrises that need her help. She controls it remotely sometimes to help rescue people or lead the emergency services to a location/criminals she's taken care of. This causes her Uncle Barney to think she is a close friend of Recluse and works on her tech. He likes Recluse but is highly worried for 'both' their safeties.
The only "Canon Events" she has gone through is the death of her parents and giving up being Spiderwoman for a while after she failed to save a little boy's parents during a train derailment caused by Sandman.
Miguel sent Jess and Ben to recruit her for the Spider Society after she dealt with a Vulture variant and he worried over the fact that her Gwen Stacy event hadn't occurred yet (death of Harry in her case, his spine snaps as he is GG when she tired to stop him from plummeting after a mid-air battle) they haven't explained this to her yet. Etta tries to stay in her world but really likes collaborating on inventions with other spider-peoples and usually sticks to the R&D or repair department over missions.
Is works besties with Margo but highly distrusts Lyla. She partial mentors under Jess and let's Gwen stay in her dimension sometimes when Hobie's world is overwhelming.
Loves blooming onions and other savory snacks, it's not unusual to see her as Recluse snacking on jerky or street corn. Tamale ladies love her. Often wears overalls or jeans jackets over her spider suit. Has hella Spotify followers because her playlists are absolutely fire (even Miles admits this)
And that's kinda it! I have hella backstory about my girl, please ask about her😁💛

@allvalley100 Aaaand the third Wanderlust drabble:
Daniel was real glad their wanderlust had led them to Tulsa because watching a movie on a screen so big was certainly something.
They did watch the movie too. At least for a while before they got a little distracted.
Daniel saw a light move nearby and quickly broke apart from Jimmy, hoping it wouldn’t be too obvious they’d been paying lots of attention to each other. The light moved closer then a security guard peered-in at them. Daniel flashed their tickets and the man went on his way.
“That was a close one,” he said, grinning.
They both laughed.

thinking about my unsleeping city s/i becoming a warlock and like, i've decided that they dealt with the demands in their dreams to "return to the sea" in more...cost-effective ways at first (namely spending several afternoons at the Shitty Mall Aquarium in okc elbow-deep in the stingray touch tank or, when their schedule permitted, taking the drive down to tulsa to the less shitty aquarium and spending a day there--they felt the calmest near the octopus tank)
but eventually it wasn't enough. the dreams got too much. so they took a leave of absence from their job citing health concerns, went back to new york, and, still swaying with sleep deprivation, staggered back into the new york aquarium.
they blinked, and the next thing they knew they were on their knees in the middle of the spineless exhibit, covered in seawater, surrounded by broken glass, and cradling a pacific giant octopus. and yet when they looked up the tank was still intact. the octopus was still inside. and the only person who seemed to notice anything out of the ordinary was a security guard who asked them to please move out of the walkway.
and anyway that's how my s/i riot got their chainlock familiar whisper! she has her own little bubble of water that surrounds her so she can survive on land. it's fine.
#i: riot#yes their entire deal is directly from that time i was super stressed out and wanted nothing more than to go to an aquarium

The Gilcrease House
Though Tulsa's Gilcrease Museum prides itself on being home to the world's most comprehensive collection of art and artifacts of the American West, the most talked-about relic in its collection is none other than the museum's late founder.
No, Mr. Gilcrease isn't stuffed and preserved in a glass case, no matter how cool that might seem. Instead, he's a member of a small, more elusive division of the institution's permanent collection-a sort of roaming exhibition seen only by a segment of the museum's patrons. It's made up of all that's intangible of Gilcrease and about a half dozen unidentified children.
Thomas Gilcrease, the man who assembled the majority of the museum's collection, died in 1962. A wealthy oilman, he spent a large amount of time traveling on business, which provided him plenty of opportunity to discover Native American treasures and Western artwork, both subjects in which he had taken a great deal of interest. Eventually his collection grew so large that it made less and less sense to store it away, so he opened a museum. His first was in San Antionio, Texas, but he soon moved things onto his own estate in northwest Tulsa, next to his 1913 sandstone house, which still stands at North Gilcrease Museum Road and West Newton Street.
After Gilcrease suffered a fatal heart attack at the age of seventy-two, his museum passed into the hands of the city, and his spirit, apparently, passed into the museum. Though his remains were entombed in a mausoleum nearby, Mr. Gilcrease seems to enjoy spending most of his time amid the halls showcasing his collection. He has been seen and heard by visitors and employees alike, quietly enjoying the hundreds of thousands of items he acquired during his lifetime. Now and again, doors will open and close by themselves, temperatures will fluctuate, and items will occasionally turn up in places they shouldn't be, though for the most part, Gilcrease likes to keep to himself. He does reportedly make a point to appear as a solid apparition once to each employee who comes to work at the museum, as if to welcome them. Some employees don't appreciate the reception, though, which explains the allegedly high turnover rate of security guards.
Gilcrease occasionally likes to retire to his old sandstone house, as well. It's not uncommon to hear unusual sounds coming from other rooms or an unexplained banging from upstairs. Some of the incidents, however, are attributed to the spirits of several children who also roam the grounds. When Gilcrease lived in San Antonio, his home served for several years as an orphanage for Native American children. It's presumed that some of the kids who once lived there member it fondly and have returned to play among the twenty-three acres of gardens that Gilcrease established there.
Overall, the supernatural incidents at the Gilcrease Museum remain fairly tame, though one incident did cause quite a stir. One Easter evening, well after the building had been cleared and locked down for the night, Tulsa police were called out to investigate an alarm that had been tripped. When they arrived with Barson, a large and well-trained police dog, the officers entered through the front and let their canine companion take the lead. Baron was undoubtedly excited by something, but when he reached the stairs, the dog recoiled, bristled his fur, and cowered on the floor. Eventually he had to be carried outside, at which point the frightened hound made a beeline to his partol car.
Police never found anyone in the museum, never discovered anything missing, and never found an explanation for whatever had tripped the alarm.

Home Cleaning Tips for Fall and Winter
Keep the bed bugs from biting you. Do you recall how amusing it was when your mother told you this? No more. Cities that have never had bed bugs are growing more used to seeing them. Experts advise taking care of chores like changing over mattresses and cleaning bedding, including comforters and blankets, in Midwest climate places like Tulsa, Oklahoma, or Peoria, Illinois. Due to spiders entering houses to escape the cold in the autumn, homeowners will also notice increased cobwebs. A thorough cleaning will discourage these winter guests from pitching a tent there, best house cleaning app.
Get your carpets professionally cleaned as well. Just imagine all the summertime dirt, sand, and grass clippings the kids' sneakers have tracked. Cleaning windows thoroughly is advised by professional housekeeping services, including between the sills and within the panes. Since many modern windows feature UV filters, glass cleaners shouldn't be used to clean them. Use some microfiber towels since they will be kinder on the glass. Another suggestion for a thorough clean in the autumn, but in preparation for winter, is to go through your home from top to bottom, paying particular attention to the living room, family room, foyer, and guest bathroom. Bring the vacuum out. The baseboards, window treatments, curtains, and corners should all be vacuumed—void behind and below furniture as you move it. Upholstered furniture should be vacuumed or, if necessary, professionally cleaned.
Dust from the summer, pet hair, and dander should all be vacuumed. The furnace may recycle unpleasant annoyances when the home is locked up for the winter. Make sure your furnace is tuned for the winter, and the filter is changed before the cool autumn weather arrives. If a fireplace in their home burns wood, the owner should inspect the chimney and clean the fireplace. This is a safety precaution and cleaning advice for the home. You should clean your air ducts in the fall as well. Cleaning your home's gutters is one of the season's most critical must-do activities. You risk having water build up in your gutters during cold weather if you don't clear them out. This may result in ice damming when paired with leaf fall, which can destroy a roof and create havoc with gutters.
If the gutters were not cleaned out in the autumn, old man winter might swiftly pull them off a home in the Midwest, where rogue ice storms occur. According to him, installing gutter guards, which keep debris like falling leaves out of the gutters, is another smart move. Check the dryer exhaust tube and vent for accumulated lint, dirt, or bird nests as another crucial cleaning tip that also serves as safety advice. When not in use, make sure the external vent door is securely closed. Many house fires have been ignited by clogged dryer vents, which have also led to carbon monoxide buildup in residences. Make careful to insulate pipes and use a water heater blanket. Replace any broken windows and check the insulation in the attic.
The advantages of a complete home cleaning before the winter cold will lessen your efforts the following spring and enhance your family's general health. Additionally, following several of these suggestions might save your life. Utilize your free time to prepare your home for winter cleaning. Take advantage of energy-saving maintenance strategies like installing ceiling fans, which force warm air downward and reduce heating costs. Hire a reputable cleaning agency to complete the jobs before old man winter arrives for a long snooze.

PROCLAMATION
All persons not deputied as special officers are ordered to
disarm in a proclamation issued shortly before noon by Mayor
Evans. Persons carrying guns after that hour will be arrested.
The proclamation:
"Armed troops, well equipped, have now arrived who, with
the assistance of the local authorities, will be able to control
the situation in this city. Everyone is directed to preserve law
an dorder and to avoid under every circumstance, the gather-
ing on the streets of curious and excited masses. This only
tends to make the situation worse for the authorities in restor-
ing order, making it more burdensome and complicated. No
loyal citien of Tulsa will willingly commit any act which en-
dangers the peace and security of the city. All parties, without
direct authority from the chief of police or the sheriff or Tulsa
county, who may be found after 11 a. m. today bearing arms and
engaged in any act liable to promote a breach of the peace will
be arrested and prosecuted under the Riot Act.
"Headquarters of the National Guards is established in
Room 306, City Hall, at Fourth street and Cincinnati avenue,
and except for duly appointed policeman and deputy sheriffs
all permission to bear ar mfsrom, and after, the publication of
this proclamation must be countersigned by Gen. Charles F.
Barrett or Col. B. F. Markham, commanding the National Guards.
"Gen. Charles F. Barrett concurs in this proclamation."
Dated 10:30 a. m., June First 1921.
"T. D. EVANS, Mayor."
Barrett is Put in Full
Charge by Robertson
OKLAHOMA CITY. - Martial law in Tulsa was ordered by
Governor Robertson at 11:15 o'clock and Adjutant General Bar-
rett placed in command of the city. The order was given over
the long distance telephone and a proclamation to this effect is
being prepared and will be issued immediately.
The order of Governor Robertson invoking martial law
over Tulsa has been extended to include all of Tulsa county. The
order will displace civil control and place it in supreme com-
mand of the adjutant general.
The governor's telegram to the adjutant general follows:
"I have declared martial law throughout Tulsa county and
am holding you responsible for maintenance of order, safety of
lives and protection of property. You will do all things neces-
sary to attain these objects.
(Signed) "J. B. A. ROBERTSON, Governor."
The governor acted after being in communication with of-
ficers in Tulsa. Attorney General Freeling will go to Tulsa this
afternoon.
"The situation at Tulsa seems peculiar to me," Governor
Robertson said. "With power vested in all city and county offi-
cials there to deputie and put into the law enforcement every
citien of the city if necessary, I cannot understand how this
trouble was allowed to get such a start."
Conversation with Adjutant General Barrett was to the ef-
fect that it was impossible for the fire department to enter the
negro section and that the flames were raging unabated.
All available guardsmen will be placed on duty once in
the negro section, which has been entirely destroyed by flames,
General Barrett said when he r[eceived order?] from Governor
Robertson placing the county under martial law.
Orders have been issued to disarm citizens. Later the
military will issu ecrededntials to men chosen as special officers.
A military commission, composed of seven city officials
and business men, to pass upon the guilt of the 6,000 negroes
now held in concentration camp, was formed shortly before
noon by Mayor Evans and Chief of Police Gustafson and ap-
proved by General Barrett. This committee will pass upon the
guilt of those held under guard in the various camps, naming
those who will be held for trial for inciting the black populace
to riot.
The personnel of the committee: C. S. Younkman, water
commissioner; Albert Hunt, district judge; H. F. Newblock,
city commissioner; C. S. Aver, oil man; Grant McCullough,
banker; F. E. White, business man; Alva J. Niles, banker.

RESTORE ORDER
LYNCH law leads not to law but to lawlessness and
lawlessness is a repudiation of government.
Lynch law is a fire brand in the hands of those
who thoughtlessly elect to establish mob rule for law
and order. Lynch law is an impassioned appeal to the
hatreds of prejudice. It brings ignominy and disaster
to any community that falls its victims.
Whatever ground it may have had, a story starts
that a negro in the county jail was to be lynched. Out
of curiosity a crowd collects. A small band of negroes
brings firearms onto the scene. At first they were few
At the outset there was nothing to indicate that the
whites had been moved to a battling protest. But when
the first small band of negroes added to their armed
forces the war began. Tulsa found itself experiencing
a night of terror and the new day dawned with the
[illegible]nd of battle and the sky clouded with the smoke that
rises above the burning buildings and shacks in the
negro end of town.
At such a time as this it is the first duty of every
citizen to restore law and order as quickly as possible.
The National Guard is equal to cope with the rioting
negroes who are already under control. Let every citi-
zen do his duty and lend his fullest influence to the
prompt restoration of law and order. Do this for the
good name of Tulsa. Keep off the streets where there
are evidences of disorder as much as possible. Make
no needlessly threatening display of arms. The state's
soldiers can do that and do it with the authority of the
law.
Now is the time for every citizen to keep a cool
head, to keep out of mob collections. The quickest and
surest way to restore law is to respect the law. Let the
authorized agents of the law handle those who will
not.
BLACK QUARTER BURNS TO GROUND;
FOUR GUARD UNITS TAKE CHARGE
Seven white persons are known to be dead.
One white woman, shot six times, is expected to die.
Thirty-four whites are wounded in three hospitals. Many other wounded persons are
in their own homes.
Sixty-eight negroes, including men, women, and children, are dead, according to reports
from all districts of the black belt where heavy fighting was waged throughout the night
and up to 9 o-clock this morning.
One hundred blacks are believed wounded.
The officials are in control of the situation and no more armed conflicts are expected.
The entire black belt of Tulsa is a charred mass. The business section of
Greenwood avenue is levelled. Scarcely a building escaped the flames set by
torches when an army of whites invaded that district early this morning to an-
ticipate a general attack on the part of the blacks. Officials at noon today were
unable to estimate the total loss which will extend into many thousands of dollars.
It is estimated that more than 500 homes of negroes were burned. A score of
business buildings and a number of factories were razed. Heavy stocks of mer-
chandise were a total loss.
The fire carried by a strong north wind spread into the white residence
section adjoining the black settlement on North Detroit avenue. Ten homes in a
row were burned before firemen could check the flames. One house was burned
in the immediate vicinity of Standpipe hill.
At 12:30 o'clock the fire in this district was rapidly being brought under
control.
Hundres of white women and children fled from their homes as the leap-
ing flames fanned by a strong wind from the north ate their way to the white
belt. About 11 o'clock the wind subdued, giving the firemen a chance to
successfully combat the flames.
A special train bearing 350 National Guardsmen under the command
of Adjutant General Barrett arrived at 9:05 o'clock this morning. General Bar-
rett issued a statement from guard headquarters at the police station that mar-
tial law would not be declared until he had made a hurried investigation.
Only developments will determine if it is to be invoked,
Barrett added. Companies A and B, totaling 150 men, arrived
on the special train from Oklahoma City, with a second troop
train due from the capital about 11 o'clock. Company B and a
sanitary detachment, both located here, are also on duty and
have been since midnight.
The guards after establishing headquarters in Second
street in front of the police station were ordered to various sec-
tions of the black belt. One contingent was sent to Meulty park,
where several hundred negroes are interned.
General Barrett is now acting under orders issued by Mayor
Evans, Chief of Police Gustafson and Sheriff Bill McCullough.
Following a night of rioting, snip-
ing and open clashes between whites
and blacks hundreds of armed men
invaded the negro district to remove
the menace the blacks there offered.
At 5 o'clock scores of armed men in
automobiles drove to the north side
of the black belt in the vicinity of
Standpipe hill. These white fighters
formed one wing of an encircling
movement entirely surrounding the
negro district. Hundreds of pedes-
trains advanced on the black belt
from the south and west. Hundreds
of shots were fired. Many negroes
were reported to have been wound-
ed while a number of whites were
taken to hospitals with wounds.
The heaviest fighting this morn-
ing was in the extreme northern sec-
tion of the black belt. Hundreds of
negroes were concentrated in a val-
ley at the base of Sunset hill. Fifty
were barricaded in a church.
Machine Guns In Use.
Deadly volleys of steel were poured
[into?] the ranks of the whites as they
[advanced?] in open formation against
the blacks who stood their ground.
Finally the whites were forced to re-
treat. A call was sent to police head-
quarters for reinforcements. A num-
ber of guardsmen with two machine
guns were rushed in automobiles to
the scene of the fighting. The ma-
chine guns were set up and for 20
minutes poured a stream of lead on
the negroes who sought refuge be-
hind buildings, telephone poles and
in ditches.
The heavy firing came to a sud-
den halt when a huge white cloth
was raised aloft by the negroes. The
church where many negroes were
barricaded was riddled with bullets,
it was said.
Hundreds of negroes with hands
held high in the air walked from
the valley under the guard of armed
civilians. They were taken to Con-
vention hall and McNulty park,
where they were interned.
Whites who returned from the
battle-swept valley said that at least
50 negroes, including men, women
and children, were lying dead. At 10
o'clock authorities had been unable
to make a check of the black losses
in this battle.
Most of the blacks who were killed
met death in the early morning
fighting in the negro section near
the Frisco tracks.
___________________________
THE START
The clash had its inception when
several automobiles loaded with
armed negroes and said to have been
led by "Old Man" Stratford, a ne-
gro hotel proprietor, swung up in
front of the courthouse shortly be-
fore 10 o'clock, bent on protecting
Rowland. Not more than 30 blacks
were in the first party but they suc-
ceeded in virtually taking command
of the situation there because few
of the whites were armed and none
displayed guns. The blacks were or-
dered home by Sheriff McCullough,
who it is said, had armed negro
deputies with him on the courthouse
steps. Barney Cleaver, a former negro
police officer, also advised them to
go home. After the first sally, dur-
ing which the blacks dispersed part
of the crowd of whites, the negroes
were still permitted to keep their
guns.
Instead of going home, they cir-
cled around several blocks near the
courthouse and came back with an-
other flourish of shot-guns and
rifles. By this time the crowd of
whites had increased to several
thousand with hundreds of women
and a number of children on the
fringes. Most of the whites wer on-
lookers and there appeared to be
no organized mob. After making
known their intention to protect
Rowland at all costs the blacks were
star[ing?] toward home again. There
was still no move on the part of the
sheriff's forces or the city police to
disarm them although the black
force was not more than 50 at this
time.
Instead of going to the negro sec-
tion to stay the blackss whirled
through the streets of the quarter
and sought recruits. Every negro
they met was solicited to joion their
ranks. At Sixth and Cincinnati two
negroes who refused were threat-
ened, according to residents of the
neighborhood who overheard the
conversation.
Shortly after 10 o'clock the blacks
came back to the courthouse with
their biggest force. Estimates place
the number of armed negroes at be-
tween 100 and 200. By this time
it was estimated that probably 100
of the whites in the crowd had
procured arms. A number of whites
who sought guns at the National
Guard armory were refused. Cour-
iers went through the crowd of
whites and warned women and
children and unarmed men to seek
safety. They said they feared an
assault by the blacks. Only a part
of the crowd complied.
The first clash followed on the
heels of this warning. There are
two versions of how the firing be-
gun. According to some of the spectators
pistols were first fired into the air
in front of the Boulder street en-
trance to the courthouse and this,
spectators say, acted as a signal for
the general firing during which the
blacks fired ten shots to each one
for the whites. The crowd of whites
greatly outnumbered the armed
band of negroes but the whites were
helpless in front of the black on-
slaught because they were in con-
stant danger of firing into other
whites if they attempted to protect
the women and children in the crowd
by answering the blacks fire.
Where First Man Fell
After the first volley one carload
of blacks came north on Boulder
avenue, firing as they raced along.
The first white man dropped be-
fore the crash. He had been stand-
ing against the wall of the garage
on Boulder, just south of Sixth
street.
Across the street men and women
in the crowd sought refuge in the
row of houses on Boulder south of
Sixth. Many of them were unoble
to reach cover before the second
volley so they dropped in their
tracks and clung to the earth.
Others hid behind curbs in the
driveways to the garages of these
homes, running to better cover be-
tween the volleys.
Meanwhile the negroes fled.
Some of them ran through the
crowds of women and children,
brandishing their guns. They had
disappeared from the immediate
area of the courthouse within ten
minutes after the first shot had been fired.
Second Version of Start
The second version of the start
of the firing was to the effect that
a number of unarmed white men,
seeing that the officials were not
willing to disarm the blacks, took
that task to themselves. One man
is reported to have dashed into the ranks of blacks and seized one of the
guns. Spectators who relate this as
the true story of the inception of
the shooting declare that the blacks
immediately opened fire when they
were threatened with disarmament.
Shortly after the negroes fled
from the courthouse battlefield an
automobile load of white youths
sped past and fired into the jail
windows on the fourth floor, spec-
tators declared.
John McQueen, a former county
officer and one of the men who at-
tempted to disperse the crowd at the
courthouse, declared today that
Johnny Cody was the negro whose
shot started the general firing here.
"While I was on the steps Cody
and a band of negroes started up,"
McQueen said. "I went to meet them
and a stranger backed me uo. Cody
pushed a gun against him and fired
just as I pushed the gun away. The
stranger went down. Several bullets
went through my coat."
Immediately after this report came
to the crowd that the blacks were
mobilizing for systematic assault on
the whites. The majority of the
white men were still [illegible]. It
became immediately apparent how-
ever, that the police and sheriff's
force were making no attempt to
prevent the return of the blacks so
the white men themselves took
charge of the situation. Small
groups systematically entered all
downtown hardware stores and
pawnshops and took up all the arms
and ammunition that could be found
Nothing else in any of the stores
were touched.
Black Attack Again.
Soon there were more than 1,000
armed men on the streets. Part of
this crowd defended the Hotel Tulsa
and the section around Second street
and Cincinnati avenue from an attack
of blacks who swarmed back within
three quarters of an hour after the
court house battle.
After this second general battle,
which is described elsewhere, the
whites took rapid command of the
situation. Patrols spread quickly to
cover all the principal streets and
the roads leading into the city.
Special guards were put at all bridges
within a several-mile radius to halt
any incoming blacks. Roving pa-
trols moved up and down Main
street. At Main and Archer streets
desultory firing took place for sev-
eral hours. Blacks from their quar-
ter fired repeatedly from behind the
building at Archer street and Boulder
avenue and Archer and Cincinnati
avenue. They were cleared out with-
in an hour or two, but a second
group took their place and held the
negro block on Cincinnati, at the
Frisco tracks, against assault until
early this morning. Two negroes were
killed here and several others wound-
ed. A number of whites were re-
ported wounded in fighting here.
Could Have Disarmed Blacks.
Fully an hour before the first
shots were fired at the courthouse
citizens stood on the south steps and
pleaded with Police Commissioner
Adkison to call out the National
Guard without delay. The negroes
were just beginning to parade the
streets at that time and they argued
that even a small detachment of or-
ganized and equipped men could dis-
arm them, compel them to return to
their own part of ftown, get the
whites to disperse when this had
been accomplished and so avert im-
pending trouble.
Commissioner Adkison answered:
"We are trying to get them out,"
then turned and told the crowd to
obey E. S. McQueen's advice to go
home while the negroes were patrol-
ling the streets in arms, threatening
death and rapine. The police were
powerless.
An hour after the pitched battle
took place around the courthouse
and northward along Main and Bos-
ton, the Guard got into action.
Guardsmen went immediately to the
police station and began an attempt
to disperse the whites who had
armed themselves and gathered
there in expectation of another at-
tack.

Tulsa Race Massacre
Greenwood destroyed.
June 1 1921, Tulsa--White mob violence against black communities had abated nationwide since the Red Summer of 1919, but the threat was still ever-present and materialized once again at the end of May 1921 in Tulsa.
On Memorial Day, May 30, a 19 year-old black shoeshiner, Dick Rowland, entered the elevator operated by 17-year-old white Sarah Page, on his way to use the segregated bathroom on the top floor of the building. A clerk in a nearby store heard a scream, saw Rowland running from the building, and called the police. Page denied an assault had taken place, did not want to press charges, and said that Rowland had done nothing beyond grabbing her arm. It has been speculated that Rowland tripped as he entered the elevator, and grabbed onto a shocked Page as he fell, before understandably fleeing the scene, knowing the likely fate of a black man found alone with a screaming white woman.
Roland was arrested the next morning, and was taken to the city jail, and then to a more secure location at the top of the Tulsa County Courthouse to protect him from a possible lynching. The afternoon edition of the Tulsa Tribune reported the story under the headline “Nab Negro for Attacking Girl In an Elevator,” and a now-missing editorial discussed (and perhaps called for) Rowland’s potential lynching. By sunset, a white crowd of several hundred had gathered outside the courthouse.
Two hours later, a few dozen black World War I veterans arrived from the Greenwood neighborhood with guns to help defend the courthouse from a lynch mob. Some of the mob went to secure arms of their own; the National Guard did prevented them from raiding the armory, but many others retrieved their own guns from their houses. After 10 PM, another group arrived from Greenwood to offer additional defense for the courthouse. Gunfire soon broke out; the black men retreated towards Greenwood, while the white mob pursued and looted stores for more guns and ammunition. The National Guard units in the area defended the courthouse, the armory, and a few other buildings, along with detaining a number of black Tulsa residents, but did not take any action against the rioting white population.
Gunfire continued through the night, along with the occasional automobile raid into Greenwood. At around 1 AM, fires were set in black businesses at the southern end of Greenwood; fire fighters were kept away by force. After sunrise, large numbers of armed white men moved into Greenwood, supported from the air by at least one plane. A handful of the rioters were killed by black defenders, but the neighborhood was quickly overwhelmed; many were able to flee to the north, but several thousand were detained.
Martial law was declared shortly before noon, and the rioting stopped within minutes, though the fires continued. Greenwood was destroyed, and up to 300 Tulsa residents, the vast majority black, were killed. None of the perpetrators were convicted of any crimes; the police chief was dismissed later in the summer and imprisoned on unrelated charges. Dick Rowland was released in September, the charges against him dropped.

Someone says,“We have more in common than what divides...”
Fuck no! If someone has seen the video and says it’s ‘Self-Defense’ with [1] Rosenbaum laying with a bullet in his back, [2] Shittenhouse walking on screen from at least a car length away, [3] Shittenhouse running away with his medical kit from those trying to save Rosenbaum.
I’ve nothing in common with ‘them’.
Never had anything in common with them.
If I was acquainted with them it was because they hid their true natures.
I’m sad at the sheer amount of bigoted, authoritarian boot-licking ugliness STILL in USAmerica.
I’m sad that I was aware of the racial massacres like Hell’s Creek 1887 or Tulsa 1921 but thought them part of ‘the past’.
I am ashamed to have been aware of the massacres of labor unionists at Homestead, Matewan, Blair Mountain (poison gassing) , Butte, Ludlow (machinegunning children) and thought them ‘part of history’.
Lived through the Civil Rights era and though it too history. What a fucking white privileged idiot.
Hardly any convictions for any racial or anti-progress massacre or civil rights in US history.
The last several years assures us that the same white trash reactionary bigoted Fundamentalist scum that fled the Christian vs Christian Holocausts in German and England and Genocide in North Ireland 1620-1660 and established local theocracies in the New World are STILL with us 400 years later.
The Bill of Rights has ONLY ever protected reactionary hate speech, reactionary hate speech from fundamentalist pulpits, the assembly of reactionaries to march through black neighborhoods on Election Day and State Capitols debating progressive armed to the teeth with weaponry. No arrests, no convictions 2020 or 2021.
If black people or unionists, or anti-slavery whites armed themselves they were massacred or shot in the back. Progressive presses were burned.
The right to assemble and petition for PROGRESSIVE ISSUES is such a sad joke.
Look at the 2020-21 response of ‘Liberal’ administrations in NYC, LA, Portland or Seattle during the BLM protests.
Re-branded protests as ‘unrest’ after new laws/curfews remove ‘Rights’ and allow police assaults. In the same way that labor picketers attacked by management thugs, private ‘security’ or National Guard became “labor violence” in the history texts.
I’m ashamed at my stupidity and sad at the cupidity of the system and the knee-jerk authoritarian worship of the white bigoted reactionaries.
Always on the wrong side of history. Always ugly and disgusting. Always requiring that ever inch of progress be paid in blood.
Blood they choose to spill though I doubt they could explain why.
I’ve nothing in common with them.

Civilization is coming: “Black Sails” and when rage is justified
(SPOILERS ahead! You’ve been warned...)
There’s a moment late in the first episode of the highly underappreciated series “Black Sails” that hints not only at the troubled past of its lead character Captain Flint but also describes the larger theme of the story.
Flint has gotten himself into trouble. Along with his crewmember Billy “Bones,” in an effort to secure the financing he needs to capture the gold from the Spanish warship known as L’Urca de Lima, his recklessness has gotten Nassau’s governor shot and injured and his plans all but evaporated. Billy feels they are now in too deep and they should not only turn back but perhaps new leadership is needed for Flint’s crew. It is here that Flint reveals a bit where his true ambitions lie.
youtube
(Toby Stephens, ladies and gentlemen.)
On the first viewing, Flint ominously declaring the pending arrival of “civilization” to the new world could mean anything from simply the imperialistic tendencies of the British and Spanish empire, to the draconian rulership of the crown or just “taxes” as he makes light mention of in this speech. But as the series progresses, especially in the second season, “civilization” begins to take a darker, more personal meaning.
The story begins to reveal that the dangerous pirates of Nassau are not at least inherently dastardly, although certainly violent, but victims of their various circumstances; a former slave turned prostitute turned keeper of secrets in Max, a neglected daughter becoming the bookkeeper of the pirates with Eleanor Guthrie, another former slave turned ruthless pirate captain in the vicious Charles Vane, and an abused woman turned deadliest pirate on the island Anne Bony, and none more painfully revealing than that of Flint himself.
You see Flint didn’t always go by this name, he used to be a prominent officer in the British navy named James McGraw until he met Thomas Hamilton, a wealthy proprietor tasked with solving the problem of the pirates of Nassau many years prior. Thomas had the radical idea of pardoning the entire island to bring them back into society, to avoid violence and bloodshed, and to better understand the people who would turn to piracy.
As James gets to know him more and his revolutionary philosophies of empathy and enlightenment the two unexpectedly fall in love and thus seal the fates of both their downfalls from “civilized” society.
With England unwilling to see any other way to end the pirates without exterminating all of them and looking to exploit weaknesses in Thomas to Parliament, he is outed and imprisoned. James along with Thomas’s wife Miranda, who lives in a polyamorous relationship between the two, are persona non-grata-ed and the two flee to Nassau to finish what Thomas started in an act of rebellion.
(This is seriously one of the most heart-wrenching, tragic reveals I have ever seen on TV. I totally knew it was coming at the time and I was still not prepared for how it was delivered.)
There are few things as personal as love and “Black Sails” uses this to show how far society can go to villainize people. Flint wasn’t born a monster, and he is not one for loving Thomas; he is a monster because “civilization” wanted him to be one.
As our own civilization enters a timeline that may promise great change, people who have been othered and victimized by society are finding themselves grappling with their pain and grief in the same way as Flint. People have tried peaceful reconciliation and conformity into society to avoid violence throughout history despite the labels they have been given for no other crime than being who they are, but civilization’s need for a monster always brings people down no matter how hard they try to do it the “right way.”
(Tell me if you see a justice system in this picture that looks interested in listening...)
Native Americans tried playing by the white man’s rules when America began moving west. Compromising over and over again and yet they were killed and still killed and neglected today for it.
African Americans tried becoming rich like their white counterparts in places like “Black Wallstreet” in Tulsa, Oklahoma and were still bombed and massacred for it.
Asian and Latin Americans immigrated here to flee war and death largely caused by white imperialist countries, to survive and work jobs white Americans would not. Both are othered as foreigners, face violence from the state, and are deported everyday.
Poor working-class Americans try fruitlessly to keep their head above water as they become mired in debt, fighting a pandemic on slave wages essentially, all while our government cuts wealthy companies a fat paycheck annually with our own tax dollars. And anyone who fights back finds themselves without an income and health insurance during a recession and a pandemic.
And the LGBTQ+ community ask for the dignity to be left alone and treated normally but not only are they harassed for it but they are beaten, tortured, and killed for being different.
(Remember, Stonewall was a riot.)
Flint, himself, tries one last time, toward the end of season two, to peacefully resolve his vendetta with England and save Nassau from a war with them but instead finds himself facing the gallows anyways by the Charlestown government.
As they read out his charges, many of them real heinous things he did but also many that were fabricated, Flint stops them from proceeding any further and delivers a final act of defiance to the court.
“I have one regret,” he begins to the court of high society folks who are only interested in seeing him punished before the masses. “I regret ever coming to this place with the assumption that a reconciliation could be found. That reason could be a bridge between us. Everyone is a monster to someone. Since you are so convinced that I am yours, I will be it.”
It is at this point in the story that Flint, perhaps like other revolutionaries of the past, recognize that the system doesn’t want to reason with him, that these people aren’t looking to understand or empathize with him or even try for that matter. They wanted a monster, they made one in him, so he decides there that “civilization” as he had noted in the series first episode is not worth reconciling with and certainly not worthy of forgiveness.
And Flint spends the rest of the series in bloody war with them.
youtube
(From season 3. Again Toby Stephens, ladies and gentlemen)
“Black Sails” is about queerness, race, social politics, and the way conformity by force is used against it. It’s about the rage that boils underneath many of us as we are wronged over and over again by society, while being exploited to no end, and what happens when someone finally says “enough.”
Anyone who has experienced what it is like to be othered can find something deeply personal with the anger that Flint carries around with him in each scene of this series. We feel his pain of rejection by society, his grief for feeling ashamed of himself when he and the audience know he shouldn’t.
It's what makes the eventual reveal of his relationship with Thomas so cathartic, as we see the rage-filled guard of Flint drop as he reads Thomas’s words left for him in a book they both loved and shared.
(Again, I cannot emphasize enough how much of a gut-punch this reveal was watching this...)
"Know no shame” is so important to growth of this character and the message of this story. Civilization and those who wish to keep the status quo want those who do not fall in line with their authority and judgments to feel shame for who they are. They not only want monsters, they want you to feel like one and the reason Thomas line speaks so much to both Flint and the audience is that it reminds us there is no shame in who we are.
The country we live in is a powder keg right now experiencing the same rage that Flint feels and more specifically how he felt at the end of season 2. Though this country’s racist attitudes and subjugation of the vulnerable hardly started with this presidency it cannot be argued that it has brought all that hatred in our government and the people who support those views painfully to the surface. When people peacefully protest, peacefully assemble, and peacefully try to cast their vote and are still met with resistance, still met with hatred and violence, people have to start to wonder if operating within the system’s rules can actually affect change.
A lot has been made about the way protesters may have violently lashed out over the past three weeks, with media talking heads and privileged elites asking unironically why they couldn’t do things peacefully but more has been done as result of the rising tension than the previous 50 years combined. You can tell people to “#vote” all you want but it doesn’t change the fact that people have been trying that for decades and people are still getting quite literally killed for it.
(Again, I gotta ask, who is this protecting? Who is this serving?)
If there’s one takeaway I hope a viewer gets from “Black Sails” is that revolution, no matter how serious you are about it, should never be off the table when confronting systemic inequality. A racist, sexist, classist, and/or, in the case of Flint, homophobic power structure does not concede their power if you play to their convenience and when people are being put down, beaten, and often killed for showing their anger at this, calling for “law and order” becomes a slap in the face to the victims.
A government or system that treats you unjustly doesn’t deserve peace.
I’ll say it again.
A government or system that treats you unjustly doesn’t deserve peace.
No one wants it to get this far, I definitely don’t, and certainly not every peaceful mean has been exhausted yet in this fight perhaps but this country was literally founded on violent rebellion after being slighted all the same by out of balance power structures. I’m not advocating for violence or to take up arms against the state right now BUT no one should ever rule it out when the social contract keeps being broken and broken and broken again by those in charge who clearly don’t want to listen.
A government should always feel the threat of an uprising if it keeps wronging its people.
(See my blog post about “Do the Right Thing” if you need help understanding this quote.)
As the more fiery weeks of the protests seem to be in the rearview mirror and we find less activity and calls to action on our social media timelines, I want to remind you all to not let up with whatever you are choosing to do to help and keep fighting back out there. The people who stand to benefit from having angst of the general public leave and dissipate from our collective consciousness want us to forget how angry we are, they want us to feel fatigued and disinterested in continuing the push forward because “this is how they win” as Flint would say.
youtube
(Again, Toby Fucking Stephens, everyone.)
We have so much more power than we realize, just look at how much got done just by everyone uniting behind one marginalized group finally over the past three weeks. When we realize we are fighting essentially in the same battle for respect and dignity, justice in our society can be achieved. It can be done, and maybe just maybe we can finally change the world. Afterall who else has been as close to achieving it as we are right now?
Fight for your dignity and respect and stand in solidarity with others in their own fights as well, and always remember “know no shame.”
