Keep Unnecessary Meetings to a Minimum
“Don’t attend unnecessary meetings,” advises Jersey, an Autistic activist in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Jersey has been on the front lines of numerous pro-Palestinian actions in the past several months, serving as a medic during the #BlocktheBoat action to delay the shipment of munitions to Israel, shutting down the Oakland Federal Building, and blocking the Bay Bridge, an action for which he was arrested and charged with false imprisonment (among other laughable charges) by the San Franciso District Attorney. Since the siege on Gaza began in October of last year, Jersey has been living and breathing for the Palestinian cause. Yet even he has limits.
“Tell [fellow organizers] that your capacity for meeting, especially in real life, is low,” he says. Instead of having to speak at length with organizers about your interest in getting involved, see if you can articulate your own role within the movement. That way, you won’t have to be “managed” as much.
“For example, if you’re a photographer, tell people that and then demonstrate that you can show up relatively independently, take great photos, and then show them with the group,” he says. Once you have proven yourself to be reliable and competent, you can skip meetings without facing as much criticism.
Many organizing spaces are oriented around neuro-conformist standards of what socializing and planning for an event must look like. Non-Autistic people generally process new information socially as part of an ongoing dialogue, whereas many Autistics prefer receiving all the relevant facts in a single, linear document they can read and process on their own. Many activists also enter a movement with intense emotional needs, and wish for others to bear witness to their suffering and share how they are feeling too. This means that those of us who find socializing and emotional processing to be draining will have to advocate for ourselves.
“We can remind organizations to be intentional about what does and does not have to be a meeting,” says Aeryn, another organizer. “Sometimes all you really need is an online survey, a memo, or a thread where people can ask questions online.”
If you can, tell meeting organizers that you are unavailable to meet often, but that you will listen to meeting recordings or read the agenda on your own time, and then communicate through email or private message to indicate that you have. Depending on how much you trust an organization and its leadership, you can either explain directly that you cannot process information in real-time easily because of your disability, or you can simply say you’re busy with school, work, or family obligations.
Operating independently may require being strategic in the roles you take on within an organization. Jersey says: “If you’ve never done security but want to do security, you will have to do a lot of training and meeting with people. But if you’re already a trained medic and have some type of credential… you can probably just tap into a medic chat and sign up for events as they arise.” This, in fact, is what he’s done.
Of course, it will be sometimes be necessary to get to know other members of your organization of choice, express your own perspectives to the group, and receive updates through some form of meeting. However, there are still many accommodations you can request to make those meetings more accessible:
Push for Accessible Meetings
When an activist movement is new or its resources are limited, its meetings may tend to be urgent, somewhat disorganized affairs, rife with lots of thinking out loud and amorphous brainstorming and possessing little in the way of an agenda.
Autistic people typically find it very hard to contribute to such meetings, because the flow of conversation is unpredictable and confusing, and most of us struggle with knowing when it’s appropriate to jump in and offer a comment. The constant flux in conversation topics is exhausting for us to keep up with, as are all the social and emotional undercurrents bubbling beneath what’s actually being said.
After the meeting is over, we may have almost no recollection of what was shared, because we were putting so much energy into masking and wearing our “listening faces.” Critiques and questions may occur to us hours after the discussion has ended, after we’ve had some time alone to digest and reflect. Even if we are physically present within a space, we are pervasively excluded when meetings are conducted in such an unstructured, overwhelming way.
Thankfully, all of this can be avoided. Here are some of the accommodations that organizing meetings should provide in order to maximize their accessibility — not just for the sake of Autistics, but for anyone who struggles to process verbal information quickly and form their own immediate verbal responses to it on the fly:

blasting sinners by barns courtney down main street we've spotted ZEHRA ARDALI sporting their necklace made of a steel chain forged in hell and a pentecostal coin fashioned into a pendant. the five hundred + seventy-one year old DEMON who's been in town for ten months often can be seen lingering at the crossroads when nostalgia hits hard, expanding her bruce springsteen album collection at the local vinyl store, picking up the mayor's coffee order from "hallowed grounds" like a coffee mule in a power suit, or working as the MAYOR'S EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT at TOWN HALL. people say they display articulate and insouciant traits, but we rather trust their vibes: a smile that promises everything and delivers nothing ( she gives you what you ask for, but not what you want ) ; a sleek, polished exterior hiding the scars of a long life lived in the shadows ; brown eyes that have seen too much and still refuse to look away ; a collector of contradictions ⸺ she's both calm and chaotic, full of smoldering rage and detached serenity. also, we've heard they love CHERRY FLAVORED LOLLIPOPS ! aren't they fascinating ?
( ! ) CW : mentions of death/murder, organized crime, violence, manipulation, demonic possession.
⛧ ¹ basics.
goes by : zehra neslihan ardali demonic name(s) : zehra, belpharion ( formal or "professional" name ) age : appears thirty-five years old / five-hundred and seventy-one gender : cis woman ( she/her ) orientation : pansexual species : demon. she's one of the mephistophelim, a child of the ancient demon mephistopheles. current occupation : mayor's executive assistant
⛧ ² vessel.
neslihan ardali was born on may 29th, 1975 in mersin, türkiye. at a young age, her family relocated to the united states after her father secured a job in the medical field. the ardali family settled in allenhurst, new jersey and neslihan would grow up to become a criminal defense attorney, having earned her juris doctor degree from rutgers university. following graduation, she took the new york state bar exam and started calling the city that never sleeps her home. as a defense attorney, she represented a number of controversial clients, including mob figures. she was part of the defense team in some high-profile cases, representing individuals connected to organized crime families in new york. these cases occasionally attracted media attention, particularly her work in the legal defense of a member of the gambino crime family which earned her the moniker of "jersey girl lawyer" in the press. in 2010, months after the final mistrial that marked a win for the defense team, neslihan's life came to a tragic end at the hands of enforcers from a rival crime family.
⛧ ³ physical appearance.
early reports of belpharion describe her as an imposing figure with long dark hair and a half-covered face. the silver mask that covered one side of her face was used to hide the scarred, disfigured features beneath. unlike some other demons, zehra's original form was primarily human-like, though it was marred by grotesque elements caused by a hellfire accident during her terrible two-hundreds, which marred half her face. for over a decade now, she's taken over the likeness and identity of her chosen vessel, neslihan ardali ( changed to zehra neslihan ardali ). she has the ability to temporarily change her appearance through her disguise powers, she's often used this skill with humans to make one side of her face look scarred and disfigured, displaying what's been referred to as her demonic face.
⛧ ⁴ powers & abilities.
she possesses the usual demon strengths and weaknesses. the following are abilities and powers that she may not share with other demons, unless they are of her kin : accelerated healing factor : despite her enhanced durability, it's still possible to injure zehra. however, her demon physiology enables her to heal faster than humans. teleportation : much like her siblings, she could teleport between earth and hell with no difficulty. unfortunately, she's been stripped of this power as punishment for an indiscretion. reality warping ( limited to deals ) : through mystical deals, she's able to fulfill almost any wish in exchange for something that they have ⸺ usually their souls. once the agreement is sealed, it's virtually impossible for the victim to escape compliance. the mephistophelim are known to mislead and use loopholes to turn a situation to their benefit, often playing with the wording of an agreement to their own advantage and the pain of the bargainer. while it's possible for a mephistophelim to undo a contract of their own making, it's not done without consequences. telekinesis ( limited ) : for example, she can summon her necklace and her demon daggers ( blades forged from powerful mystical steel in hell ). this ability is limited as she can only move specific items with her mind. demonkinesis : she can summon lesser demons or hellish creatures to do her bidding or simply, to serve her. summoning does not include the ability to bind or control the summoned being. supernatural insight : she as the ability to sense the inner nature of a person's soul and assess its purity or corruption. during the soul-reading process, her eyes briefly flicker into a glowing red color. it's not a steady, constant glow, but a fleeting flash, like an ember that burns hot and fast, then fades almost as quickly as it appeared. the red glow might pulse once or twice before dimming, returning to the demon's normal gaze.
⛧ ⁵ personality traits.
charming but aloof ; has a penchant for sarcasm ; eye-rolling master ; selectively enthusiastic ; sees challenges as opportunities for a little fun ; loyal to those she cares about, though she may not always show it ; excels in the fine art of pulling strings ; tendency to keep her emotions guarded ; dismissive in the face of discomfort ; struggles with vulnerability ; can be condescending, particularly towards people she deems beneath her ; sometimes self-deprecating, but prefers to keep her insecurities hidden ; craves parental validation and approval more than she lets on ; possesses a dry, almost caustic humor, often laced with irony and cynicism ; has a rebellious streak that's often expressed in her defiance of expectations ; can be awkward in emotionally charged situations, despite her confident exterior ; skeptical of grand gestures and unrealistic ideals ; driven by both, self-interest and a sense of obligation ; turns out, she's got jokes.
⛧ ⁶ style.
corporate chic, i guess?? power suits, tailored blazers, pencil skirts and bold colors that make her look like she's about to close a deal and steal the spotlight. "i could damn your soul with a glance but i'd rather do it in style" vibes. her casual look is laid-back but still on-point, a mix of comfort and cool, with a touch of urban edge.
⛧ ⁷ speech.
her voice is smooth, controlled and deliberately measured, often laced with sarcastic or mocking undertones. tends to speak with an easy charm, her tone can be playful even when she's being cruel or manipulative. depending on the topic, she may come across as bored or exasperated, particularly when dealing with the absurdities of human existence, her delivery drifts into deadpan monotone. when genuinely angry or frustrated, her speech becomes more coldly biting and frantic, losing some of its polish and detached air. in moments of vulnerability, her voice softens, though even then, she strives to maintain control, masking any signs of weakness.
⛧ ⁸ dossier.
zehra spawns into existence shortly after the fall of constantinople and the rise of the ottoman empire ⸺ an event her father claims credit for. though not in history books, mephistopheles struck a deal with mehmed the conqueror on april 6th, 1453. in exchange for the city's capture within fifty-five days, mehmed would gain eternal glory, but his soul would be damned forever.
she is made from a sliver of primal soul ( a soul in its raw, underdeveloped state ), and mephistopheles' own blood and bones, at a dark altar in the pits of hell. the youngest of the mephistophelim, she spends her formative years trying not to step over the colossal egos of high-powered dealmakers who had already made a name for themselves.
as a rookie, zehra is normally assigned to hell loops like a common torture demon or called around to help her older siblings with tasks they prefer to avoid, as they remain reluctant to dispose of big duties. though she isn't called upon for anything important in her early centuries, she is full of ambition and looking forward to her ascent in the infernal hierarchy.
her terrible two-hundreds are, indeed, terrible. a promising, enthusiastic demon filled with youthful curiosity and an unhealthy obsession with "why". her questions become more frequent and much more annoying, she prods and pushes limits with disruptive ideas like a "vip suffering experience" or trying to unionize hell. her rebellious streak peaks with an accident involving uncontrolled hellfire that disfigures the left side of her face. her siblings are not impressed, but zehra's determination earns her a grudging respect and even her father, once skeptical of her potential, takes notice.
after decades scrubbing hell's floors ⸺ literally and figuratively, she steps into the role she'd been eyeing. zehra becomes known for her ability to strike deals with ease, finding people on the edge of a moral collapse and subtly guiding them into hell's grasp. she knows how to twist words and she always gets a little more than what is expected, relying not on fear or fire but on psychological manipulation. she'll make someone feel guilty, entitled or deserving of more, exploiting their emotional weaknesses to make the deal feel inevitable.
as centuries pass, she begins to notice a sameness in her work. humans become predictable, their desires don't change and the deals grow hollow. the thrill of manipulating mortals starts to feel more like routine than fun. each new soul collected is no different from the last one, and while she doesn't experience remorse, she starts to grow weary of the endless cycle.
in 1929, zehra strikes a deal with mexican painter frida kahlo, offering fame and recognition for her personal art in exchange for her soul. despite her growing apathy towards the process, she admires kahlo's resilience in the face of physical pain. over the following years, zehra visits often, fascinated by how the artist channels suffering into her work. for the first time, she sees a bargainer not as a mere pawn in a game of souls, but as someone of true merit. in a bold move, zehra breaks the agreement, allowing kahlo's legacy to influence the world without the corruption of their pact. this decision isn't driven by pity or a desire to "save" the painter, but a genuine recognition of frida's greatness. this act of defiance infuriates mephistopheles.
as punishment for her indiscretion and to prevent her from growing too attached to humankind, mephistopheles revokes zehra's ability to travel freely between earth and hell. he is a worried parent who fears that she has spent too much time observing her "clients," growing increasingly empathetic as she watches them struggle after selling their futures. zehra would beg to differ ⸺ she has simply been bored. though it’s true that she's grown to enjoy spending time on earth, she finds humans and their endless concerns rather dull and unremarkable.
ever since kahlogate, zehra can only pop up on earth if someone summons her at the crossroads ⸺ or she hitches a ride with another demon which is just embarrassing, really. in a desperate bid to appease her father and also reclaim her autonomy, she buries her growing disillusionment and keeps herself occupied, using her skills to entertain herself. alas her heart isn't in it and her charm feels more like a half-baked act ⸺ she knows the routine, but the magic is gone. once a spirited agent of temptation, now a jaded trickster, phoning it in. it takes over fifty years for mephistopheles to loosen the tight leash on zehra's independence.
once a mephistophelim reaches half a millennium in age, they're permitted to shed their original form and take on a vessel of their choosing. the mephistophelim are known for their commitment to the skin they choose to inhabit, rarely changing it throughout their lifespan. this transformation is considered a rite of passage, and the decision is not made lightly. in 2010, at 557 years old, zehra finally takes on her chosen vessel; a recently departed defense attorney, born on may 29th ⸺ the date constantinople fell.
she seals her most important deal shortly after, with mephistopheles agreeing to the terms as a belated 500th birthday gift. allowed to roam earth until she's ready to return to hell, as long as she continues to fulfill her duties, zehra feels like she has outwitted the oldest dealmaking demon in existence, the master of "faustian bargains" himself. perhaps mephistopheles wasn't acting as a cunning trickster, but more like a parent than the king of the crossroads.
at this point, she sees the souls she collects as "paperwork", a necessary evil rather than something she genuinely enjoys. zehra goes through the motions with a sense of detached amusement, fulfilling her obligations to hell not out of passion, but because it keeps her father off her back. her role in the grand scheme of things is to be a tempter but she has little interest in putting in any more effort than she has to. as a side gig, she's been trying get her teleportation rights back.
she stumbles upon portum at a time when she is beginning to flirt with the idea of freedom, and unsettling questions start to surface in her mind. what if she could walk away from her obligations? what if she could stop playing the game? what if there's something more fulfilling than just collecting souls for hell? the idea of rebellion is appealing, but the known comforts of hell keep her tethered.

burr pt. 3 my world is with my girls living on the dance floor
ive been watching dance moms and writing about burr someone open a gofundme for me pls (here's pt. 2)
The Burr-Hamilton Duel
After basically everything went wrong for Burr, he went independent, but still sought Federalist support (note the fact that he was never actually a Federalist).
Hamilton, meanwhile, was still actively planting candidates in elections to run against Burr, while spreading vicious rumors throughout their social circles and newspapers. He didn't really have a job in politics so he was just kind of. fucking shit up for everyone else.
Burr lost the gubernatorial election and blamed Hamilton, who referred to Burr as a "dangerous man, and who ought not to be trusted" at a dinner party.
Burr challenged Hamilton to a duel on June 27, 1804 that would occur on July 11. Hamilton was struck by Burr's bullet, succumbing to his wounds on July 12. I'll have more detail on the exact events of the duel in Hamilton's posts, but imma focus more on the aftermath here, because, obviously, Hamilton wasn't around for that.
Burr faced very significant backlash, the worst he had in his career thus far. He moved to the South to allow "public opinion" to "take its proper course" and to reunite with his daughter and grandson.
Burr was indicted in NY and New Jersey, but didn't stand trial in either. In Early November, he returned to the second session of the 8th Congress, which was very awkward.
“His presence to me is odious… Federalist appear to despise [him]...” -Senator Plumer, Nov. 7, 1804
Jefferson decided this was a good time to mend relations with Burr. According to an unnamed source because, again, my notes were horrible, Jefferson invited Burr to his house abnormally often, and Madison rode in a carriage with Burr to visit the French Minister. This was incredibly sus, but it gave Republicans a new respect for Burr, allegedly because of "their joy for the death of Hamilton" and also the recent Samuel Chase impeachment trial.
Chase's trial began on March 12, 1804, Burr presiding. (btw, if you're familiar with Hamilton's publius letters from 1778, this is the same guy who raised the price of flour so revolutionary troops were literally starving). The reason for Chase's impeachment was because he lacked self control and gave aggressive, radical Federalist speeches, so Republicans needed him gone, which made a lot of Republicans start to suck up to Burr. Burr, however, seemed to have lost major characteristics that made him appealing as a fair judge, being "uneasy, discontented, and hurried", so they were still cautious.
Though, that being said, Burr's conduct fluctuated. He still had his characteristic rigid discipline, conducting the proceedings "with the dignity and impartiality of an angel, but with the rigor of a devil."
"It must be acknowledged that Burr has displayed much ability, and since the first day I have seen nothing of partiality." -Senator Cutler
Burr occasionally intervened in the House, and posed questions when other interrogators fell short. He took careful notes. Senator Plumer complimented Burr's dignified manner, but was outraged by his conduct on January 2, 1805.
On January 2, Chase arrived to enter his pleas. Plumer overheard Burr order J. Mathers to remove a chair set aside for Chase, saying, "Let the Judge take care to find a seat for himself." Chase "moved that a seat be assigned him", and Mathers replaced the chair. Burr "in a very cold formal insolent manner replied he presumed the Court would not object to taking a seat." Burr refused to proved a table for Chase. Burr went on to repeatedly interrupt Chase, and Chase requested more time to answer, occasionally crying. I do not feel any pity for this man, I'm sorry.
Burr also was very picky about the clothes and food in the Senate. For example, he notified Chase's attorney "that he must not appear as counsel in his loose coat". By Februrary, Burr was "remarkably testy" and "in a rage because we do not sit longer". At the end of the February 12 meeting, Burr lectured the Senators on etiquette. I think these quotes are still from Plumer, but idk because I DIDNT WRITE IT DOWN
"Mr. Burr said he wished to inform the Senate of some irregularities... Others eat apples- & some eat cake in their seats... Pickering said he [did] eat an apple... Burr replied he did not mean him- he did not see him." "Wright said he did eat cake... he was faint- but he disturbed nobody- He never would submit to be schooled & catechized in this manner... Burr told Wright he was not in order- sit down... I left Wright & Burr scolding."
Overall, Burr lost his "easy grace" by the time he announced that Chase was deemed not guilty on March 1.
On February 13, 1805, Burr presided over the joint session of Congress, in which it was announced that Jefferson was reelected, and Clinton would be VP. Samuel Mitchell said that Burr performed this "painful duty [with] so much regularity and composure that you would not have seen the least deviation from his common manner or heard the smallest departure from his usual tone."
Burr left the Senate the day after the Chase trial and two days before Clinton took office. He gave a moving address on March 2, 1805 that was twenty minutes long. He closed the door aggressively on the way out, so he was definitely more pressed about it than he wanted to admit. He was indebted and forced into retirement
Treason? More like. not treason (*applause*)
I have an actual source for this part so here you go (it's not my best).
So the details on this aren't very clear, but essentially the gist is that Burr worked to raise a small army on the American frontier, but we don't really know why. Like he may have wanted to fight the Spanish, he might have wanted to make a new country where he was the all powerful emperor, and, if you're Thomas Jefferson, he might have been trying to colonize the United States. I think the first one is the most reasonable, but maybe that's just me.
The paper trail for this goes back to 1804 when Burr contacted British foreign minister, Anthony Merry, bringing up the idea that Louisiana and other territories might be willing to secede from the US, which is as suspicious as it sounds. Merry sent a dispatch to London documenting this, but the English never took Burr up on his offer, and this dispatch would be used as evidence later.
In 1805, Burr spent several months travelling the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers, scouting territory and recruiting supporters. Burr met with Harman Blennerhasset, who was a wealthy Irish immigrant who owned an island on the Ohio River. Burr continued down the Mississippi and gained more supporters, one of whom was General James Wilkinson.
Wilkinson was a very major figure in this. He was the highest ranking officer in the US military (a position that Hamilton and Washington both held before him). He had a reputation for duplicity, and it later came out that he was a paid agent for the Spanish. He had access to a bunch of vital resources (ie the entire US military), and could serve as an official cover for any military operations.
Burr made sure not to give all the details to his recruits, which ended up working in his favor. He also didn't give all the details to Andrew Jackson, who gave him him some boats to use, under the impression that it was for the US military.
Burr, of course, attracted significant amounts of attention, and rumors were already circulating back east when he returned in late 1805.
In August 1806, Burr went out to Blennerhassett's island, which he intended to use as a rallying point. He allegedly sent a coded letter to Wilkinson saying, "I have at length obtained funds, and have actually commenced."
Wilkson chickened out and snitched to Jefferson, who got super fucking pissed and issued a proclamation to crush the frontier plot and arrest it's leaders. In December 1808, militia groups raided the Blannerhassett outpost while Burr was on business, and many supporters abandoned the plan. Burr was taking some of his supporters to New Orleans when he found out about Wilkinson's betrayal in early 1807. He was captured in an attempt to flee near Mobile, Alabama in February, and was brought to Virginia to face trial. Jefferson was adamant that he be charged with treason.
United States v. Aaron Burr
The trial took place in 1807 in Richmond, Virginia, with Chief Justice John Marshall presiding. During the trial, witness accounts were muddled and contradictory, which made the prosecution's job difficult, but they still maintained that Burr was attempting to levy war against the US.
"He was the Alpha and Omega of this treasonable scheme, the very body and soul, the very life of this treason." -Alexander MacRae
(if anyone (im looking at you, richie) makes an abo joke about that quote, im quitting permanently and living in the woods for the rest of my life)
Burr's defense actually did really well, but its not that surprising since he only had two former attorneys general on his team so. The defense managed to prove that Wilkinson doctored the cipher letter, and argued that the definition of treason required evidence of an "overt act" from the accused. John Marshall ruled in favor of this interpretation, and the prosecution had basically nothing to go off of.
Burr had spoken about various illegal schemes, but since he hadn't been there for the Blennerhassett island ordeal, he could not be said to have participated in an "overt" act of treason, so the prosecution had no evidence. So, Burr was found not guilty of treason! yippee
One more post left for Burr. Let's see if I can get this all done in one day.

Advocating for You The Role of a Workers Compensation Benefits Attorney in New Jersey
Suffering a workplace injury can be a harrowing experience, with physical pain compounded by the stress of navigating the complex workers' compensation system. In New Jersey, a workers compensation benefits attorney in New Jersey becomes a crucial ally, playing a pivotal role in ensuring that injured workers receive the compensation and support they rightfully deserve.
One of the primary responsibilities of a workers' compensation benefits attorney is to serve as a dedicated advocate for their clients. They are well-versed in the intricacies of New Jersey's workers' compensation laws and leverage their expertise to guide injured workers through the entire claims process. From filing the initial claim to representing clients in hearings or appeals, these attorneys act as a shield, safeguarding the rights of the injured against powerful insurance companies.
Navigating the bureaucratic maze of workers' compensation can be overwhelming, but an experienced attorney brings clarity to the process. They work diligently to gather evidence, interview witnesses, and ensure that every aspect of the case is thoroughly examined. This meticulous approach strengthens the client's position, increasing the likelihood of a favorable outcome.
Furthermore, a workers' compensation benefits attorney in New Jersey serves as a liaison between the injured worker and the insurance company. They negotiate on behalf of their clients to secure fair and just compensation, covering medical expenses, lost wages, and rehabilitation costs. In cases of permanent disability, an attorney ensures that the client receives appropriate long-term benefits, offering financial stability in the face of life-altering injuries.

Their advocacy ensures that the injured can focus on recovery while the legal intricacies are expertly handled, offering a path forward to a more secure and stable future.

Atty. Tom Renz: “The COVID-19 Murder for Money Scheme in the Hospitals… Have Been Carried Out by Fake Doctors and Nurses”
By Jim Hoft May. 6, 2023 5:20 pm357
On Saturday, anti-corruption attorney Thomas Renz in Ohio made headlines by suggesting that fake doctors and nurses may have been behind the COVID-19 murder-for-money scheme in hospitals.
“DEVELOPING: This is the most important developing story in the country. The COVID-19 murder for money scheme in the hospitals appears, in many cases, to have been carried out by fake doctors and nurses,” Renz wrote on Twitter.
I will have MAJOR news on this from Renz Law and https://t.co/IDxPWXBko5 on this soon.
— Tom Renz (@RenzTom) May 6, 2023
His statement follows the arrest of over two dozen people by the Department of Justice (DOJ) in connection with a plan to sell fake nursing degrees and transcripts from legitimate institutions.
“The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (HHS-OIG) and our law enforcement partners launched a multi-state coordinated law enforcement action to apprehend individuals engaged in a scheme to sell false and fraudulent nursing degree diplomas and transcripts,” according to the news release.
“The enforcement action resulted in the execution of search warrants in Delaware, New York, New Jersey, Texas, and Florida, and 25 individuals being charged for their involvement in the fraud scheme.”
“The alleged scheme involved the selling of fake and fraudulent nursing degree diplomas and transcripts obtained from accredited Florida-based nursing schools to aspiring Registered Nurse (RN) and Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse (LPN/VN) candidates. The individuals who acquired the bogus nursing credentials used them to qualify to sit for the national nursing board exam. Upon successful completion of the board exam, the nursing applicants became eligible to obtain licensure in various states to work as an RN or a LPN/VN. Once licensed, the individuals were then able to obtain employment in the health care field.”
More than 7,600 fraudulent nursing degrees were granted by three nursing schools in South Florida. These institutions were Siena College in Broward County, Palm Beach School of Nursing in Palm Beach County, and Sacred Heart International Institute in Broward County. These schools are now closed.
According to DOJ, each defendant faces up to 20 years in prison.
“Not only is this a public safety concern, it also tarnishes the reputation of nurses who actually complete the demanding clinical and course work required to obtain their professional licenses and employment,” said U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida Markenzy Lapointe, who added that “a fraud scheme like this erodes public trust in our health care system.”
“Health care fraud is nothing new to South Florida, as many scammers see this as a way to earn easy, though illegal, money, “said acting Special Agent in Charge Chad Yarbrough, FBI Miami. “What is disturbing about this investigation is that there are over 7,600 people around the country with fraudulent nursing credentials who are potentially in critical health care roles treating patients. Were it not for the diligence and hard work of the investigators on this case, the extent of this fraud may not have been discovered.”
“The alleged selling and purchasing of nursing diplomas and transcripts to willing but unqualified individuals is a crime that potentially endangers the health and safety of patients and insults the honorable profession of nursing,” said Special Agent in Charge Omar Pérez Aybar of Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General (HHS-OIG). “In coordination with our law enforcement partners, HHS-OIG continues to aggressively investigate bad actors who so brazenly disregard the well-being of others in order to enrich themselves fraudulently.”
Recall, DOJ charged 18 people including doctors in massive Covid healthcare fraud takedowns last month.
“The Department of Justice today announced criminal charges against 18 defendants in nine federal districts across the United States for their alleged participation in various fraud schemes involving health care services that exploited the COVID-19 pandemic and allegedly resulted in over $490 million in COVID-19 related false billings to federal programs and theft from federally funded pandemic programs,” DOJ said in a news release.
NBC reported:
One California doctor, Anthony Hao Dinh, was charged with allegedly submitting around $230 million in fraudulent claims to the federal Health Resources and Services Administration’s Covid-19 Uninsured Program.
Dinh, who practices in Orange County, was the country’s second-highest biller to that program, according to the DOJ. The program aimed to provide uninsured patients with access to Covid testing and treatment, but it stopped operating last year due to a lack of funding.
Dinh allegedly used more than $100 million of fraud proceeds for high-risk options trading.
Dinh and two other individuals are also charged with allegedly submitting more than 70 fraudulent loan applications that obtained more than $3 million under the federal Paycheck Protection Program and Economic Injury Disaster Loan Program.
Another defendant in California, lab owner Lourdes Navarro, is accused of submitting more than $358 million in false claims for lab testing to Medicare, which is the federal health insurance program for senior citizens, to HRSA and to a private insurance company.
Navarro’s lab performed Covid screening tests for nursing homes and schools, and allegedly increased its reimbursements by adding claims for respiratory pathogen panel tests that providers and facility administrators did not order.
A doctor and marketer in Florida were charged with allegedly purchasing Medicare beneficiary identification numbers and shipping tests to beneficiaries who did not request them.
That resulted in $8.4 million in fraudulent claims to Medicare, the DOJ said.
Other cases involved the alleged manufacture and distribution of fake Covid vaccine record cards.

Some great tips to prepare for the future:
Have backup birth control (iud or plan b) in case hormonal birth control is outlawed
Get a passport
Have two forms of id with identical names in case voter id requirements change
If you’re on the fence about getting divorced, do it now before no fault divorce is outlawed.
If you’re lgbtq+, relocate to a blue state that will protect you (New Jersey, Maryland, California).
Not mentioned but speaking from familial experience (my cousin’s husband pre doma died and the husbands ex was still on the deed to the house he’d lived in for 5 years and he filed to be executor on the estate before my cousin could and he lost literally everything):
If you’re not in a ~traditional~ marriage, there’s a very strong likelihood of obergefell v Hodges and loving v Virginia being overturned.
Get a will
Set up a power of attorney and a living will
Make sure your spouse is on any titles or deeds
Move savings and properties into a trust that you’re both trustees on.

Wintertime driving in New Jersey often involves hazardous, slippery road conditions. Defensive driving and staying alert are critical, as the other cars and trucks are also trying to maintain control and traction when the roads are unsafe. You should always maintain enough stopping distance between your car and the vehicles ahead and drive at a reasonable speed at all times. Often wet roads are in fact black ice, which makes driving treacherous.
Unfortunately, car accidents and truck accidents frequently occur, especially during winter driving and can involve serious, lifelong injuries and sadly, loss of life. Additionally, workers on the job may be injured in a motor vehicle accident, after being crashed into by another (third-party) vehicle. Therefore, in addition to your potential workers’ compensation claim, you will want to speak with an injury lawyer to discuss the possibility of a third-party personal injury claim.
It is very important that your vehicle is properly maintained, which includes making sure your tires have enough tread to grip the road, and are properly inflated. Worn tires will significantly increase your chances of losing control and possibly getting into an accident. Make sure your battery is properly charged, have a full-tank of gas, and keep an emergency road kit in your trunk (jumper cables, flashlight/extra batteries, flares and/or reflectors, first aid kit, blanket, shovel, bag of sand, and a toolkit). You should also make sure, if possible, that you remove all snow and ice from your car.
New Jersey has a two-year statute of limitations time limit, whereby a person can bring an injury lawsuit, so it is important to contact us now. Also, if your claim involves an improperly designed or maintained roadway there is a strict 90 days notice requirement to place all responsible governmental entities on notice of your intention to file a claim. For example, this can include improper drainage creating pooling of water that freezes resulting in a serious car crash.

What is estate planning? What You Need to Know in New Jersey
At its core, estate planning is the process of arranging how your assets will be distributed after you pass away or if you're incapacitated. It's not just about creating a will—though that's a vital part—but also involves setting up powers of attorney, trusts, health directives, and more to manage your affairs during and after your lifetime. While it may seem like something only the wealthy need, anyone with property, savings, or loved ones can benefit from estate planning. It’s about providing clarity and security, so your family isn’t left with difficult decisions during already stressful times.
1. Why Is Estate Planning Important?
Estate planning is more than just organizing your assets—it's about respecting your values and wishes. Here are some compelling reasons why it’s essential, especially if you live in New Jersey.
Avoid Probate Headaches
Probate is the legal process where a court oversees the distribution of your assets. It’s lengthy, often expensive, and public. Without a valid estate plan, your loved ones may face delays and stress as they try to access even basic funds to cover expenses. Proper estate planning can minimize, or even avoid, probate entirely.
Protect Your Loved Ones
Would your family know what to do if you were suddenly incapacitated? Estate planning allows you to appoint decision-makers—like a power of attorney—to handle legal, medical, or financial matters on your behalf. It ensures your family is protected and empowered to act.
Care for Minor Children
For parents, estate planning is crucial to name guardians for minor children. This ensures they’re cared for by someone you trust if something unexpected happens.
2. Key Components of Estate Planning
Here are the essential elements every New Jersey resident should consider when creating an effective estate plan.
A Last Will and Testament
A will is your blueprint for how your property, belongings, and other assets will be distributed after your passing. It also allows you to name guardians for minor children. Without a will, New Jersey law decides how assets are handled, which may not align with your wishes.
Power of Attorney (POA)
A POA appoints someone you trust to make financial or legal decisions on your behalf if you cannot do so. This could be handling bill payments, accessing bank accounts, or managing investments.
Healthcare Directives
No one wants to think about future health crises, but a healthcare proxy—or living will—ensures your medical preferences are clear. These documents allow you to select someone to make medical decisions for you or specify treatments you do or don’t want.
3. Estate Planning in New Jersey
New Jersey residents face unique legal and tax considerations when estate planning. Here are some key areas to keep in mind.
Inheritance Taxes: New Jersey charges inheritance taxes on certain beneficiaries, depending on their relationship to the deceased. Immediate family members, like spouses and children, are usually exempt.
Estate Taxes: While New Jersey no longer imposes an estate tax, federal estate tax laws may still apply to wealthier individuals.
Probate Process: New Jersey has simplified probate procedures for smaller estates, but larger ones may still face delays or additional costs. Not sure how probate could affect your heirs? An estate planning attorney in New Jersey can help.
Trust-Friendly Laws: New Jersey offers supportive laws for setting up trusts, making it easy to protect assets and avoid probate.
An experienced "estate planning attorney near me" can walk you through these details and craft a customized plan that addresses your financial and family needs.

What Qualities Should You Look for When Hiring a Personal Injury Lawyer in New Jersey?
Hiring the right personal injury lawyer in New Jersey can make all the difference when you or a loved one has been injured because of someone else's negligence. But how do you find a trustworthy legal advocate to guide you through the process, protect your rights, and secure fair compensation?
Whether you're dealing with a car accident, workplace injury, medical malpractice, or another type of personal injury, you'll learn how to evaluate top New Jersey personal injury lawyers and what questions to ask before deciding.
1. Why Choosing the Right Lawyer Matters
Filing a personal injury claim can be overwhelming. Between insurance companies pressuring you to settle quickly and the complexities of New Jersey's legal processes, having a skilled personal injury attorney on your side is crucial.
An experienced NJ personal injury lawyer will:
Handle communication with insurance providers and opposing attorneys.
Gather evidence to build a strong case.
Help you understand your rights and compensation options
Develop strategies to maximize your settlement.
Now that you understand the importance of choosing the right lawyer let's explore the key qualities that set the best personal injury lawyers in New Jersey apart.
2. Top Qualities to Look for in a NJ Personal Injury Lawyer
Experience in Personal Injury Law
When your health and financial well-being are on the line, you want someone specializing in personal injury law. A general lawyer may not have the expertise to handle your case. Look for a personal injury lawyer in New Jersey who has dealt with cases similar to yours.
Ask questions like:
How many personal injury cases have you handled?
Do you have experience with my type of injury (e.g., car accidents, slip and falls, workplace accidents)?
What were the outcomes of those cases?
For example, if you were in a car accident, choosing an attorney with a history of success in motor vehicle injury claims gives you confidence that they know how to handle the complexities of your case.
Willingness to discuss your concerns and address any uncertainties. You deserve a partner who listens to your worries and supports you every step of the way.
3. How to Start Your Search for a Personal Injury Attorney in NJ
Now that you know which qualities to look for, here are some tips to kick off your search for top personal injury lawyers in New Jersey:
Start with Recommendations
Ask friends, family, or colleagues if they can recommend a trusted NJ personal injury lawyer.
Schedule Free Consultations
Most New Jersey personal injury lawyers offer free initial consultations. Use this opportunity to ask questions, evaluate their expertise, and see if they are a good fit.
4. Get the Legal Support You Deserve
Hiring the right personal injury lawyer in New Jersey could be one of the most important decisions you make after an accident. Look for someone with experience, empathy, and a proven track record of success. Taking the time to find the best attorney ensures your case is in capable hands, giving you peace of mind and the best chance at securing the compensation you deserve.
If you're ready to take the first step, why not start by scheduling a consultation with one of New Jersey's top personal injury lawyers? Whether you're dealing with medical expenses, lost wages, or emotional distress, the right lawyer can make all the difference in your recovery.
