Season 5 Byler Season-Episode Parallels Prediction
A mouthful of a title, I know. But basically, I want to throw out my ideas for a crucial Byler moment next season supported by this parallel that I have yet to lose sight of:
Tumblr media
The season-episode parallels. Mike and Will have had crucial moments in their relationship during s1e1, s2e2, s3e3, and s4e4. Following the chains of logic between these moments, I want to lay down a bunch of ideas and predictions for season 5, starting with…
1. Byler will have a key moment in season 5 episode 5.
I have no other explanation for this other than it’s in the parallel: the season and episode match numbers, which they have always had something important happen between them during each matching season-episode. I imagine the moment could be an important conversation as the previous moments all involve Mike and Will talking. Seems obvious enough as a premise, but I think it’s hopeful to predict that we as the audience will get to hear their thoughts in this moment rather than only see it.
2. Mike and Will will maintain their physical orientation.
Mike on the left, Will on the right, tried and true. I think their orientation could be an easily detectable indication of the moment happening. Another thing I never considered is that in all of these moments, Mike and Will are stationary. They’re not walking and talking, not biking and talking, no distractions. Just them. I think this might carry over to season 5.
3. Mike and Will are going to be cast in darkness.
It’s hard to see with this photo as they are all rather enhanced, but the moment in s1 is rather dark, s2 relatively lit, s3 very dark upon their faces, and s4 probably the brightest moment yet. I think that therefore, within a dark-to-light A-B-A-B format, Mike and Will could be in the dark next season. Which I think would absolutely work as Hawkins grows more apocalyptic, and there are several options for the location. I hope it’s the Upside Down, full circle in Mike’s garage, in Mike’s basement, or maybe on a swing set at night.
4. Mike and Will will share a common childlike word conveying their emotions.
Seems specific, but look at what Mike and Will say to each other during these scenes, and save for season 1, they share, respectively, “crazy,” “stupid,” and “cool.” Simple but heartfelt words that display their trust, anger, and hope. I would love to see the use of “yeah,” for season 5 to further this parallel as well as flip the script on the once bitter “yeah?” “yeah.” of season 4 and the van scene.
5. Their clothing will reflect their understanding in each other.
We all love the revelation that Mike is blue and Will is yellow, but this has been done before. Twice, in fact. I think it would be lovely if they were in their respective colors, but I think a poignant change, much like s2s2 in the “crazy together” scene, they will share a color next season. And what other than green, a blend of their usual colors as well as a large marker of connection and unity throughout the show. Think of Joyce wearing green in s1 as she fought to bridge the gap between worlds and bring Will home. Think of the Hawkins school system and one of their school colors being green. Think of Dustin wearing that green shirt in s3 as he returned home, finally reuniting the whole Party. Byler could exhibit the epitome of that color.
Mark my words. These will all happen. (Me when I'm overconfident)

ok, i'm game now Some theories and predictions after episode 4: -it is too often implied that the murderer is a woman, so i'm pretty sure that the murderer is a man. My top of suspects at the moment is something like: 1. Cliff, with his mother aware of his crime and covering him (i'm not sure whether it's a great addition to the whole parend-child storyline or a bit hackneyed as it has some parallels with Teddy&Theo story). May had an affair with Ben, may commit it to impress his mother and create something his own *Donna killing Ben in order to protect her son is also more than possible, it ruins the idea of "the say it's a woman so it's a man", but quite fits 2. Dickie - (crime of passion because of Ben eating cookies) any reason??? 3. Jonathan. Well, he was his understudy, sounds like a motive. OR maybe he tried to kill him for the first time, but he wasn't his killer after all 4. Tobert. Well, I think that they won't do the main hero's love interest the killer again, but if they do, he is kinda creepy and it's more likely to be him than Joy (who has already became a prime suspect) or Loretta Howard is cute in his own strange way, i don't believe it's Howard -The person who poisoned him and the person who was the reason he fell into the elevator shaft are two different people???? -I 1000% agree with the theory that Ben was speaking to cookies -In the first season it was Mabel's childhood friend who was killed and the story from their past, in the 2nd season Charles' father was on the painting, so the mystery is somehow connected to Oliver's past as he's already portrayed as the leading part in this season (but maybe his previous theatrical failures and his worries about the show is already such point, still there will be more flashbacks) -Poor Oliver will have a heart attack at the most inappropriate moment, probably in front of Mabel and Charles, making them, Will and all of us experience our own heart attack. Probably as a cliffhanger. I think in the episode 7 or 8. He lives, of course, but I'm ready to cry my eyes out -And creates the idea of final banger of the show (or thinks about killer's identity. or both) during clinical death. In the episode with his narration and some flashbacks. Creates another chaotic masterpiece and continues his work on the show almost immediately. Maybe agrees (with the face full of sorrow and whining) to quit dips if Will asks but never gives up on show and investigation. Then constantly boasts about his "death" like one of his acquaintances and says Ben beaten him. It's the most Oliver Putnam thing ever -I HATE the theory of Charles murdering Ben being in the white room and I'm sure it won't be true BUT this theory may be mentioned in the show. Like they'll finally find out it's not true, but suspect it at some point, Charles is not sure if he actually hasn't kill Ben, and maybe it will in some way be the thing that triggers Oliver's heart attack???? -I actually like the theory of Loretta being Dickie's mother, especially after the look he gave her at Look for the light. She's not a murderer, but the prime suspect for one or two episodes -Joy is also obviously pretty innocent, but Charles and her break up -Final episode will be more like season 2 than season 1: the true murder will be revealed only in the last ep. during another scene with Poirot-like false accusations. According to the trailer, with detective Williams there in the theatre, but maybe this takes place a bit earlier and the true killer revealed in another scene -Murderer reveal party is paralleled to and shown together with the episodes from the musical -This Mabel's wedding scene is either season 4 flashforward or staging used to reveal the murderer. I'd like to see the Theo as at least fake husband, but i think it will be Tobert. MAYBE the wedding will be aimed to expose Tobert himself, but I still believe he's too obvious to be the killer -Oliver and Loretta break up, but on a happy note grateful to each other, and Loretta finally goes to "take Hollywood by storm" after the show
(and Oliver and Charles end up together) -Mabel finishes podcast and then takes Cinda's job offer and moves out, still mantaining cute relationship with her old boys well it was a lot….

H50, season 5, episode 1 thoughts...
Whatttt?
Okay, I have seen this scene before. The boys obviously in some kind of therapy. I just, honestly thought it was part of the whole therapy episode that, I think, comes in a later season.
But apparently I get BOTH!
Danny: We have been together for three years
Steve: Four
The fact that Steve then corrects him down to the day. Yeah, someone's been paying attention.
Also, Steve in that blue button up. Mmmhmmmm.
This is so beautiful I just want to quote it all.
Sir Daniel.
The fact that this is how they're starting the season... it's an obvious recap of who everyone is for new viewers but ... really?? ... could they have made it any more mcdanno??
Steve: we're ohana
Danny: I guess I was just agreeing with him, for the first time
No matter how much they argue they're family.
This poor couple obviously something is gonna go wrong... and it did.
And just in case we haven't been able to tell from his general vibes, one of Danny's intro scenes is now him and baby Joan (I think, based on how short it is). Just so we know he's father material.
(And if it's Joan, interesting that him interacting with Steve's niece is considered important enough for his intro)
Kono and Adam being adorable.
Wait. Was she surfing with her phone on her ankle? I may need me a waterproof case like that that is actually waterproof!
Hey, Steve let someone else fly the helicopter.
Shaw: you must be Detective Williams
Max: I have given her the full heads up
Danny: you gave her the heads up on what?
Steve: it's all true
And now you know there's a drone... go put your vests on.
Steve and Danny teasing Jerry together. And Danny has to slap Steve's thigh while doing so.
I'm sorry, Jerry, but yes, people do still read hard copy books.
Book em Danno.
And Steve's been shot.
Oh, look at that, Danny's just the right height for Steve to put his arm around him and use him as a crutch.
Steve: I can't drive, Danny
Danny: oh really? There's a silver lining in the face of death. Fantastic.
Steve: my leg will heal. Don't get used to it.
Okay, but now we need some cool action for stopping the plane please.
Okay, that drone was cool. Even if I did was some super Seal shanenigans (but I guess Steve's been shot, so...)
But he's up and running anyway...
Go Danny! Nice shooting!
Okay, and that clip ejection and reload was hot.
Yes, Steve does need a loyalty program with every fifth bullet extraction free. Lol.
Also, I note Danny is the one allowed to push his wheelchair.
Max: I just explained to Dr Shaw that Commander McGarrett is the leader of five-0 and that you're his deeply cynical, misanthropic, short-tempered partner.
Max: Dr Shaw agreed with my assessment, however, she did think you were cute.
Steve: hey! *reaches his hand back for a fist-bump with Danny.
(Okay, but does Dr Shaw think Danny is Steve's cop partner or partner partner? Just asking)
Well, now they're setting up a whole bunch of things for the season...
Mention of Danny's brother again... that dude better not threateb Grace.
Okay, I think this is now one of my fav eps despite the fact wasn't as much fan of the drone storyline as some of the others we've had.
Deleted scenes...
Oh, this is a brilliant one of mcdanno arguing...
Danny: where do you get stones big enough to tell that lady that I get to drive my own car?
(Stones Danny? Where are your thoughts?)
Danny: I'd like to drive it when we're together as friends.
(Steve, Danny is inviting you on a friend date where he gets to drive the car, okay)
Oh wow. Catherine found Najib but decided to stay in Afghanistan.
Wow, so Catherine breaks up with Steve in a deleted scene.
(I mean, I'm not mad, cos I do like her as a character just not with Steve, and I like she was honest with him and her reasons for staying there are good)

Tiger & Bunny Week Day 2
Tiger & Bunny First Series Anniversary
(allowing for airtime shenanigans lol)
I can't quite put together a full review, but I want to list some moments in Season 1 that I found striking/intriguing/wonderful/thought-provoking when watching it for the very first time (around the end of December 2021):
1 - The princess carry
Tumblr media
I said I started watching T&B at the end of 2021, but I had actually been distantly aware of its existence well before that, for a reason I find extremely amusing: I had seen Taibani BL doujinshi while browsing for doujinshi of other anime shows 😂. My vague impression, based solely on the name of the show and the cover art of said doujinshi, was that "Tiger and Bunny" were something like two detective partners... and that the original series was explicitly a yaoi one, because, come on, surely you wouldn't name your characters Tiger and Bunny otherwise, right?!?
I knew by the time I clicked play on Netflix that that last bit was wrong. The princess carry told me that I was not that far off, though, either. 😜
2 - The reveal that The King of Heroes is actually a massive dork
Tumblr media
You kind of catch glimpses of it in the previous episodes, but I sort of dismissed them as "eh, it's his over-constructed Hero TV persona, this guy is the King of Heroes, after all, he must have all of his ducks in a row".
But in the very first episode we see him out of the suit, we find out that Keith is, if anything, even more of an overeager puppy when he's not on the clock as Sky High, and this made me fully realize what a rich world of characters I had landed in (and made Keith start to rise very fast in my personal preference ranking of all the heroes).
3 - Barnaby's fear (?) of fire
Tumblr media
This one was, to me, a missed opportunity for what could have been an even deeper look into Barnaby's character.
Barnaby here says he "hates" fire (火が嫌いです). From his expression, and the flashback that follows, I think it would be fair to assume that fire makes him at the very least uncomfortable, if not downright afraid. And Barnaby has both and enemy and an ally who have fire as their power, as evidenced specifically in this episode, so I was expecting that to be addressed... but nothing specific ever came of it.
It's true that Barnaby in this first half of S1 is very cool and collected at all times, but finding out if and how his feelings about fire color his perception of and interactions with Nathan and Lunatic would have been extremely fascinating, IMHO. (Even just an explicit acknowledgment of the fact that he doesn't let it influence his relationship with those two characters in the least would have been interesting, and added to his characterization in some small way.)
4 - Episode 17 ("Blood Is Thicker Than Water.")
Tumblr media
Definitely one of my very favorite episodes overall (which means a lot, considering it doesn't feature Nathan, or even Keith, for one single second, lol).
We learn so much about Kotetsu, his family, his history; at one of his lowest points, he manages to shine when it matters the most, where no one can see him, but the thing he cherishes most in the world, Kaede, is at stake. And the thing that struck me the most is that he saves her by completely subverting the way we've always seen him apply his power to being a hero: by being still and quiet and attentive, instead of strong, rash, loud. And then he doesn't even need his power to finish rescuing Kaede, to be her hero; just a good old jolt of parent-with-a-kid-in-danger adrenaline.
It's a really fantastic episode.
5 - The ending of episode 24, and the title of episode 25 ("Eternal Immortality.")
Tumblr media
(And I don't just mean the whole "gosh, the fried rice thing was pretty gay, but the eyelash comment was REALLY gay, huh?" stuff, lol.)
See, when I watched this, I already knew that season 2 was coming up, so I should have logically assumed they would not kill off their main character here... But I was way too caught up in the story and way too distraught to remember any sort of logic, and I was staring at my screen like "surely they wouldn't... right? RIGHT?!? 😥"
And then I remembered that oh! The last episode is called "Eternal immortality"! It's the only one with a title that doesn't fit the proverb scheme! It must be very significant!
And so I was fully convinced, for the, oh, 10 minutes between here and the moment Kotetsu stands back up in the last episode and explains he had just simply passed out, that he had indeed died, or about as close to is as to not make a difference, and that his Hundred Power, after diminishing, would actually fade completely right there and then and turn into a different power, that would grant him infinite regeneration (see: him healing himself with Hundred Power in episode 13), and thus, essentially, eternal immortality.
Hey, it would have been pretty cool.

South Park Filler Guide - Season 8
Link for Seasons 1 2 3 4 5 6 7
PLS my analysis will have spoilers, if you’re a first time viewer, just scroll to the bottom and read the list and only read full text if you are familiar with the content of the show already! S8E1 Good Times with Weapons is FILLER
Tumblr media
Yes! Everyone's favorite season premiere is a filler, baby! It was fun, we sang, we cried, in the end Butters never has a scar on his eye again. S8E2 Up the Down Steroid is LORE
Tumblr media
We have a new tradition, which is that after last season's Krazy Kripples, we'll have a new Jimmy episode every year! And this is the first time we meet Nathan and the rest of the special education kids. S8E3 The Passion of the Jew is FILLER
Tumblr media
I wanted to tell you this one was canon, because the season has constant mentions of Passion of the Christ so far, but in the end, it doesn't even matter. S8E4 AWESOM-O is FILLER
Tumblr media
Sooo if every anime filler was as good as these ones, the filler guides most likely wouldn't exist (or they would, because humans), but again, what we have is a self-contained story. S8E5 You Got F'd in the A is FILLER
Tumblr media
At one point I might have convinced myself that what I'm doing with this recap makes some kind of sense, but alas, it doesn't. This became an episodic show and we miss out on all the best episodes. Why am I lamenting at You Got F'd instead of Good Times with Weapons? Because I'm a loose cannon with no regard for the law. That may be true, but I get the job done, God damn it. S8E6 The Jeffersons is CANON
Tumblr media
No other Mr. Jefferson episode came out while Michael was still alive. As a hologram he later references his name being Jefferson again, but this one only ads a little more context to that. This one also pretty much introduced the new cops of South Park. S8E7 Goobacks is FILLER
Tumblr media
Yes, Darryl and the Took our jobs meme are here, but it will return in enough episodes to still be understood. S8E8 Douche and Turd is CANON

What a great election episode! We get town lore (Stephen with the ram's horn again) and an allegory that will return in a big way later. S8E9 Something Walmart This Way Comes is FILLER

I regularly forget this one exists and doesn't make a difference at all. Sorry, got too subjective. Objectively this is an episode with a simple message and without a larger scope for the show. S8E10 Pre-School is FILLER

Trent Boyett never returned. But if you think about it, he is one of the boys' greatest foes. S8E11 Quest for Ratings is FILLER

One time the boys played cops. They even played musicians. Now they play newsreaders. Only Jimmy is in for the long-run and he will get episodes that focus on that individually. S8E12 Stupid Spoiled Whore Video Playset is CANON

Not just because it's a follow-up to Death Camp of Tolerance, that in itself wouldn't be enough. But Paris also has an extended role in a specific later episode I mentioned a lot, but never dropped. It's 200 by the way. And 201. Now I am a bit picky of which ones to include if we got no other clue for an episode. The show never got to 200 celebrities at that point. Also, some of them were in that episode first. So only the most prominent ones get their debuts counted as canon ones by default. S8E13 Cartman's Incredible Gift is CANON

I don't like murder mystery shows (the kind where each full season is devoted to solving one murder.)
And yet, of the four shows airing in the period of the year that I am at all excited about, three of them are murder mysteries (Murder at the End of the World, Fargo Season 5, True Detective Season 4. The other is the Curse.) This reasonably annoys me.
It's not that I can't watch murder mysteries, and that I don't appreciate some of them (cf, I watched all the previous seasons of Fargo and True Detective.) I just find the core premise such an aggravating story, especially for how much of television they dominate.
They vastly overstate how frequent lethal violence is in daily life. I do in fact like stories that cover other types of conflict than violence.
They tend to have a structure where each episode we meet a new person who was doing shady stuff with the victim (often a child), and by the end of the season the entire town is just a web of child predation, drug deals, affairs, and abusive relationships.
Their depiction of police is either hilariously naive, or just blithely ignorant of the rampant abuses of power the protagonists themselves commit.
They usually morally Other the perpetrator. Either the perp is someone with bizarre drives (schizophrenia and pedophilia being the most common by far) and we need zero other explanation for how this happened, OR they are someone with very understandable motivations, who just crossed the line stupidly and now we must cast them to the deepest pit rather than try to reconcile their humanity with ours.
The structure has started to become cliche - 1 episode of setting the scene, 6-8 episodes of chasing red herrings, 1 episode of a dramatic reveal you could not have put together before because you lacked any relevant information. Why watch any of the middle stuff?
... and yet, my favorite writers still are choosing to focus on this genre. I'm sure they have good reasons. It just annoys me.

1 art. Actually, I should have made a fanart with him even earlier, but… I decided only now. Anyway, I recently started playing Zenless Zero Zone and… I liked it. Unlike other games, from the same Chinese, I liked this one the most. And I got hooked on it just like Fortnite. True, it has one drawback - getting this character is only 0.06%! Instead, some lolis drop out, which I don't need at all! And I'm ready to use all 300 summons, but at any cost, I want to get this wolf! 2 art. Well, yes, I decided to please the female part of my fan base, if there is one of course… 3 art. Do you remember such an anime as Black Butler? I remember, and only now I found out that season 4 has already been released. And when the time comes, then I will definitely watch it. In the meantime, a short review of all 3 seasons and a full-length film: Season 1 is a masterpiece. It perfectly combines drama, thriller and detective. The characters are interesting to watch, overall I recommend watching Season 1. Season 2 is a direct continuation. It is not as strong as Season 1, but still watchable, and it is interesting to watch the plot. But Season 3 is complete crap! The plot is sluggish and at the same time strange. No spoilers, but the ending (in pre-final episode) disappointed me, the villains were also not properly revealed, as if they were not there, when absolutely nothing happens in the last episode, where the characters walk back and forth without a goal. But the full-length film is generally an iceberg filled with feces. In short, the main villain, a former ally of the main character, with delusional motivation. And the ending was left open. I can't say anything about Season 4, when I find out, I'll tell you. 4 art. Yeah, I wanted to make a muscular male in a maid costume. What? No one is against it! Von Lycaon: Zenless Zero Zone
Zenless Zero Zone

still mad true detective night country didn't get a full 8 episodes. 1) it deserved more room to breathe, 2) it would have had time to build more word of mouth and expand audience on here in particular
audience numbers were already good for that season but i remain resentful that a fandom for the show never took off on here

9-1-1 6x12 "Recovery" Thoughts
Man I kinda feel bad for the people I saw saying they would skip this episode (on Reddit btw). It's a good episode.
The messages of it resonates with me really well, not count it's literally full of Buddie gold people were craving for in previous episodes. (Patience is the key). Like they finally talked about the shooting, and the couch metaphor too working just fine. Also love Buckley simblings time here.
Now, talking about Bobby's storyline.
I do think they could have worked a bit better in the build up of Wendel and Bobby's relationship before killing off the man. These flashbacks could easily have been in earlier episodes (like they could have cut the sperm donor bs we didn't care about to put scenes introducing Wendel), but overall, I do like it a lot, because they used the characters in that storyline really well, in special Tamara.
I legit enjoyed Tamara, it's been a while since I do watch an episode and end up wishing to see a character more times. They worked this storyline in a way I was not expecting too which makes it more interesting, and I love that Bobby is finally moving on and being motivated by this (in a positive way). Wendel's death so far had been motivating him in negative ways to seek revenge and justice, it became an obsession of 4 months, so it's great to see that it's now motivating him in a positive way, to help others just like Wendel helped him. I hope by the end of the season he becomes an sponsor. I think it would be an interesting shift of the "mentor" dynamic that we see him have with the 118 vs with civilians.
Also I have to say I actually really liked of what the writers did with Bobby storyline, I mean I had a big range of emotions here LMAO. I never been so infuriated as I was after the lady use Bobby's past to frame him, and then later it was just plain depressing to watch Bobby just listesn to a list of accusations in silence and then the detective be like "this is just too perfect to be true". Man the relieve I felt (and Bobby too)
BTW great performance from Peter, I love when writers gives him space to show his acting.
I don't have any complains of this episode. So, perfect to me.

Daredevil: Season 1, Episode 1, Part 2
I’m back with part 2 of the season 1, episode 1 recap of Netflix’s Daredevil. Sorry for the lengthy delay! There’s a lot to get into.
In part 1, Little Matthew Murdock went one round with a giant truck full of HAZARDOUS MATERIALS and lost. We met his dad, his priest, his favorite recurring criminal, and his best friend for life, Foggy Nelson. We were also introduced to Karen Page, the prettiest murder suspect in Manhattan, and James Wesley, Fisk’s harbinger on the street. You can find part 1 here.
Now it’s time to spring Karen from the joint, pull on those black jammies, meet our roster of second tier bad guys, and finally get the band together.
Tumblr media
We pick up sometime after Karen’s scream for help. Matt and Foggy are back at the station trying to strong arm the shady detectives into just releasing her already. They threaten to plaster Karen’s beautiful, tv-ready face all over the news until she’s set free and they get some answers. One possible question, how did the security cameras by Karen’s cell turn off right as all this went down?
Tumblr media
It’s here that we gain another little nugget of insight into the mind of Matthew Murdock. Turns out, he’s kind of a shit. Foggy revs up the sass with the shady detectives but Matt brings that little something extra that makes you worry they’ll punch him in the face or, you know, shoot him.
Tumblr media
Shady Detective 1: I’ll call the ADA. But you take that tone with me again, I don’t care if you’re blind, I’ll kick the shit out of you.
Like that.
It’s hot.
The detectives leave, and Matt and Foggy puzzle over why they’re willing to release Karen so easily. Matt posits that there was additional evidence at the scene that pointed to another suspect, evidence that would have only been released if Karen was formally charged.
This tiny moment feels indicative of some of the future conflict between Matt and Foggy. I’m gonna make a mental note and we’ll get back to it. Probably. For now I’ll say that Matt is quick to consider/recognize possible corruption in the justice system and Foggy shakes off the idea.
Tumblr media
At Nelson & Murdock, Foggy makes Karen some hot tea and the boys ease her into a gentle interrogation. Turns out Karen doesn’t know who is trying to kill her, but she does know why.
Karen’s story, round 2: Union Allied Construction, Karen’s former employer, has been rolling in dough due to their work on the reconstruction of Hell’s Kitchen post-alien attack. Karen was accidentally sent a hinky file that showed they were laundering money through the company pension fund. She told her boss, he lied like a rug, so she reached out to Daniel the dead guy, who worked for the legal department. They met at a bar to talk, they were drugged and Daniel was murdered.
Karen freaks. Either Matt and Foggy are with Union Allied or she’s going to get them killed. Foggy awkwardly comforts her like the sweetheart he is while Matt offers to take her home until they’re sure she’s safe.
Tumblr media
At his apartment, Matt gives Karen a grand tour and we get our first glimpse of the reason a pro-bono lawyer can afford an enormous corner apartment in NYC.
Tumblr media
Matt gives Karen a dry shirt. There’s an odd moment where she changes in front of him that I think is meant to serve as another reminder to the audience that, yes, Matt IS actually blind, but it just struck me as awkward and titillation for titillation’s sake. Very curious to hear other people’s thoughts on this.
The two chat about Matt’s blindness. Karen is super nosey, as is her wont, but charming. She asks about the accident and if Matt remembers what it was like to see. Matt takes off his glasses, in what may be the only time he does so around Karen until season 3.
Tumblr media
Matt: You know, I'm supposed to say I don't miss it. That's what they teach you in trauma recovery. Define yourself by what you have, value the differences, make no apologies for what you lack. And it's all true, for the most part, but it doesn't change the fact that I'd give anything to see the sky one more time.
Karen watches Matt, completely mesmerized. She barely has time to process when Matt puts his glasses back on; he has some questions for her now.
Let’s take a beat to discuss this scene. The way I interpret it, this whole conversation is about Matt teeing Karen up for more questioning. He knows she’s lying about something, so he takes the time to make her comfortable before poking holes in her story. At the same time, he is disarmed by her questions, her genuine interest. Karen is an incredibly genuine, empathetic person. She’s also curious. She wants to know everything about everyone, it is an incredibly consistent character trait of hers (though this feels like the last time she’s so blatantly nosey with Matt- is that possible???). Matt, who’s about to start his own little fishing expedition, can’t help but respond to that. He answers her earnestly because Matt is nothing if not earnest.
Matt stands and turns toward Karen. He’s Lawyer Matt now. He lays out his hypothesis, an addendum to her latest story. It goes like this: Karen was left alive when Daniel the dead guy was killed because she still has something the people who killed him wanted. A copy of the pension file.
Tumblr media
Karen watches Matt like a mouse caught in a trap, but when Matt asks her outright if she has the file she denies it. He listens to her heartbeat and knows that she’s lying, but he lets it go for now.
Tumblr media
On the roof of Union Allied, this season’s bad guys hold a meet & greet. Owlsley is complaining, his primary character trait. Madame Gao and Nobu are side-by-side while the Russian brothers prowl around in a little huddle. They’re waiting for Fisk, but they get Wesley instead. He extends his apologies to all of them, specifically Madame Gao. I don’t remember the extent of Fisk’s Hand knowledge. Does he know she’s a big time, immortal player?
The Russians are pissed, Vladimir in particular. They’re not interested in dealing with a flunky. How can they trust a dude who won’t show his face? One that Wesley insists on calling ‘my employer’ while hushing anyone who tries to say his name like Fisk is freaking Voldemort?
Tumblr media
They start to storm away in a huff but Wesley calls them back. He asks about them ‘being late on the cargo totals.’ I’m gonna remember this moment, cause there will be a time a few episodes from now when I’m briefly inclined to sympathize with Fisk and think that maybe he could do some good in the city. Dude is knee deep in human trafficking. THE CARGO IS PEOPLE. FISK IS NOT A GOOD GUY. Make a note.
The Russians tell them about the man in the black mask, which is a tough sell, to say the least, especially when they get to the part where he took down all their men using only his fists. Owlsley snarks at them.
Owlsley: Heroes and their consequences are why we have our current opportunities.
He thinks vigilantes are good for business, that they contribute to lawlessness.
Tumblr media
Wesley asks for more details. He and Gao are surprised to hear the man in black didn’t try to take the victims for himself. Everyone bickers for a while, about the man in black, about Union Allied, about another mobster named Prohaszka. I’m delighted that neither the villains nor Matt realize how thoroughly he, a single dude, is messing with their business.
At Matt’s apartment, Karen sneaks out. Matt is sleeping on the couch and hears her but doesn’t try to stop her. He wants to know what she’s hiding.
Tumblr media
She runs to her apartment in the rain (totally doable in Hell’s Kitchen). After pausing to stare at Daniel the dead guy’s blood stain, she grabs a USB she hid in the ceiling. She breathes a sigh of relief. Then someone sneaks up on her in the dark apartment. Unlike Park Guy, this Assassin Guy does not mess around. He immediately starts slamming her head into the wall and it’s all really scary and violent. He picks up the USB and pockets it and is just about to go after Karen with a knife when Matt appears.
Tumblr media
Fuck yeah. I love a sneaky hero who appears out of the shadows. It affords many opportunities to fist pump when they show up.
Matt and Assassin Guy go to town. He’s a much better fighter than the dudes Matt fought by the river. There’s a lot of tossing around and at one point Matt parkours off Karen’s wall. Once again I attempted to get some quality screen shots but they all looked like this.
Tumblr media
Yeah.
Anyway, they finally manage a synchronized swan dive out the window. It is by pure dumb luck that Karen’s apartment is on a lower floor and there’s an incredibly convenient dumpster beneath her window, which breaks their fall.
Tumblr media
Our sweet Matty is down for the count. We cut to a flashback of Little Matt, who fell asleep at his kitchen table doing homework. He’s wearing enormous sunglasses, so you know this is post-accident. Daddy Jack finds him there and wakes him up, encourages him to finish his work. Jack is beat to hell. He wants Matt to take his education seriously, so he doesn’t end up like him. Jack sits down and lets Matt explore his injuries.
Tumblr media
The Jack in the past and the Jack that lives in Matt’s head both tell him the same thing. “Come on Matty, get to work.”
Tumblr media
Cut to Matt on the ground, spitting up blood. He pushes himself off the ground and immediately gets into it with Assassin Guy. Some of the fight is in slow mo, which is used to give us some idea of how Matt’s powers work, how he’s able to anticipate where people will be, or what weapons are nearby. At this point it seems like he’s mostly dependent on sound.
Tumblr media
The two tussle for a minute until Matt finally gets the upper hand and strings the guy up with a chain around his neck. He collapses to the ground and tries to catch his breath. Karen’s face is all of us.
Tumblr media
She goggles at Matt, who picks himself up again and rummages through Assassin Guy’s pockets for the USB. He promises to get it to the police, but Karen convinces him they can’t be trusted. As a compromise they leave Assassin Guy tied up with the USB in an envelope labeled EDITOR outside the office of the Bulletin. Okay.
Tumblr media
The next morning, presumably, the story has broken.
Tumblr media
Wesley drives around in the back seat of a car and discusses the coverup with Fisk on speaker. It involves killing a bunch of patsies, namely Karen’s old boss, Park Guy and Assassin Guy. The main takeaways from this conversation- 1) Fisk is concerned about how Assassin Guy was subdued (it’s Matt!) 2) Fisk is interested in Nelson & Murdock, since they represented Karen (also Matt!). Again, Matt is messing with their business on multiple fronts.
Tumblr media
At Nelson & Murdock, Karen serves the boys a thank you lasagna using her grandma’s secret recipe (the secret ingredient is virtue!). It’s weird. However, the three of them are adorable. Foggy mentions the ‘nut in the mask’ who saved Karen, Karen staunchly defends him, Matt twiddles his thumbs and changes the subject. VERY subtle. The big takeaway here is that Karen offers to help them set up the firm in lieu of payment for their services. I don’t think they bring it up again but I sure hope she got a whopper of a settlement from Union Allied.
Tumblr media
Now, the end of episode montage. Matt goes to Daddy Jack’s gym, Fogwell’s, after hours to work out. He wraps his hands and starts in on a heavy bag. The flyer from his dad’s last fight still hangs on the wall.
Tumblr media
The scene cuts between Matt punching and the following: Owlsley cleaning out the pension file; Park Guy’s daughter coming home to find his dead body; Assassin Guy dead, swinging from a sheet in his cell; Madame Gao’s heroin operation; Nobu looking over some blueprints; and Turk Barrett back on the streets and checking out some guns.
Tumblr media
A quick note about Nobu. What we’re seeing here
Tumblr media
is Elena Cardenas’ tenement building, the future site of Midland Circle and the current home to some sweet, immortality-giving dragon bones. Look at that smile!
Tumblr media
The last cut takes us to the street, where a man is being dragged out of his car by the Russians and beaten up, and his cute little curly haired moppet abducted.
Tumblr media
On a building somewhere in Hell’s Kitchen, Matt is listening to the city.
Tumblr media
He filters through the noise and zeroes in on the kid’s screams for help. Then he pulls down his mask, ready to get to work.
Tumblr media
And that’s it! The first episode! Action is hard to screen cap and recap! Nonetheless a great episode and excellent intro to the show. I’ll be back, hopefully in a reasonable amount of time, with episode 2.

Glenn Scarpelli: The star of "One Day at a Time" and "Jennifer Slept Here" grown up, out, and married
Tumblr media
One Day at a Time, one of the iconic television shows of the 1970s, sent newly-divorced Ann Romano into the wilds of a never-described Indianapolis, to fight sexist oppression and raise her two daughters.  But by 1980, the daughters had grown, and they needed a new kid.  Instead of having a long-lost cousin show up, they acquired one by having Ann date single father Nick Handris (Ron Rifkin) for 19 episodes before killing him off.  The boy's mother wanted nothing to do with him, so Ann offerd to take in Alex (13-year old Glenn Scarpelli).
One Day was really a dramedy, so they spent some Time exploring the impact of having a dead father and uncaring mother before moving Alex into hetero-horny plotlines: his girl-crazy first date,  his foray into a female mudwrestling tournament, his attempt to "lose his virginity," and having to choose between a hot date and an important event with father figure Schneider.
Tumblr media
As he started to mature -- and bulk up -- Glenn got the full teen idol treatment, with beefcake posters, gushing articles in teen magazines, a record (ntitled Glenn Scarpelli), and girl-magnet stories in Archie Comics (it helped that his father was Archie artist Henry Scarpelli).
He had his own float in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, where he sang his own song, "Doodle Bug."
Tumblr media
Glenn stayed on One Day at a Time for only two seasons. In Season 9, the household would be splitting, and Alex's role minimized, so Glenn bowed out for a role in Jennifer Slept Here (1983-84).
A family moves into a house occupied by the ghost of a Marilyn Monroe-like sex symbol who died a few years ago -- but only the family's teenage son (John P. Navin, Jr., left) can see her.  She becomes his mentor in girl-crazy adolescence while trying to preserve her memory and sex-symbol appeal.  Glen played the son's his best friend and competitor for girls.
Superstar Debbie Reynolds, Poltergeist medium Zelda Rubenstein, and game show host Monty Hall had guest spots. A sure-fire hit, right?   But the network kept moving it to slots next to the last half-hour of blockbusters, The Dukes of Hazzard on Friday,  T.J. Hooker on Saturday, and finally The Fall Guy on Wednesday,  and it was canned after 13 episodes.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile Glenn was appearing in 52 episodes of the children's 3-2-1 Contact (1980-83) as Cuff, a detective who solves cases using the scientific method.
Three episodes of Love Boat (1983-85), playing three characters.
A McGyver (1990), as a troubled high school student who drops out to work in construction, even though he's a McGyver-style scientific genius
An episode of Amazing Stories
Glenn wanted to be true to himself, but Hollywood wouldn't allow it during the homophobic 1980s ("100 times more homophobic than today").  He started his career on Broadway, playing against Anne Bancroft in Golda and Al Pacino in Richard II, so he returned to New York and enrolled in the NYU Film School.
He dropped out when his first partner, talent agent Gary Scalzo, was diagnosed with AIDS.
When Gary died in 1992, Glenn needed a complete break from show business, so he moved to Sedona, Arizona, known for its mysticism and spirituality.
Tumblr media
In 2003 Glenn and his second partner, John Belanger (right), started the Sedona Now Network, which reports on local events like the Sedona Film Festival and "Fright Night at Verde Canyon Railroad."  They were married in 2008, and divorced in 2012.

Why 'Bodies' Is Your Next Netflix Obsession – Trust Us, We're Hooked!
Tumblr media
Ready to embark on a new binge-watching journey? Well, we've got the perfect series that's about to become your latest obsession – 'Bodies'! Now, I know the struggle of choosing the next show is real. The endless scrolling, the uncertain sighs – we've all been there. But let me tell you, 'Bodies' is not just another series; it's an experience, and I'm here to spill the beans on why you should add it to your watchlist ASAP. The crime and sci-fi series follows four detectives from different periods – 1890, 1941, 2023, and 2053 – who discover the same body in Whitechapel, east London. Then, they begin to unravel a disturbing conspiracy spanning decades and have to try to work together to solve the murder. "Based on the mind-bending graphic novel by Si Spencer, Bodies is a police procedural with a twist. When a body – the same body – is found on Longharvest Lane in London's East End in 1890, 1941, 2023, and 2053, one detective from each period must investigate. "As connections are drawn across the decades, the detectives soon discover their investigations are linked, and an enigmatic political leader – Elias Mannix (Stephen Graham) – becomes increasingly central. Did he have a part to play in the murder? Or is something far more sinister at play? "To solve the mystery, our four detectives must somehow collaborate and uncover a conspiracy spanning over 150 years."

1. Gripping Storyline that Keeps You Guessing 'Bodies' is not your run-of-the-mill series. Nope, it's a rollercoaster of suspense and drama that'll have you at the edge of your seat. The storyline weaves through unexpected twists, leaving you guessing and theorizing after every episode. It's like trying to solve a mystery while being hooked on a gripping novel – you just can't put it down. 2. Characters You'll Root For (and Against) One of the key elements that make 'Bodies' stand out is its characters. From charismatic leads to enigmatic villains, each character is meticulously crafted, making you feel like you're part of their world. Perfect Mix of Thrills and Chills If you're a fan of heart-pounding moments and spine-tingling suspense, 'Bodies' delivers in spades. The creators have nailed the balance between thrills and chills, creating an atmosphere that will make you reach for that extra blanket while binge-watching late into the night. 4. Stellar Performances that Leave a Mark The cast of 'Bodies' is nothing short of phenomenal. The actors bring their A-game, making you forget they're playing characters on a screen. You'll laugh with them, cry with them, and sometimes, even question their motives – that's the level of immersion you can expect. 5. A Community of Fans Awaits You What makes watching 'Bodies' even more exciting is the community that comes with it. Engage in discussions, share your wild theories, and connect with fellow fans who are just as obsessed as you are. Trust me, the 'Bodies' fandom is a welcoming space where everyone speaks the same language of anticipation and excitement. So, Why Watch 'Bodies' on Netflix? Because It's an Adventure Worth Taking!
