does anyone know what it's called when your brain just. reads shit wrong constantly? not dyslexia bc im not seeing the words backwards, but my brain just adds in letters or changes them around for no reason and it completely bungles the pronunciation to me. most recent example i can think of is tropicamide, ive been reading it as tropicamacide for fuck knows how long. did the same thing w stigmata too, became stigmatata in my mind somehow.
does it even have a word or is it just called being a fucking numbskull LMAO. sometimes (basically all of the time) i like my version of the word better

Tropicamide 0.8% + Phenylephrine 5% Eye Drops : Opdenas Lifesciences
Tropicamide 0.8% + Phenylephrine 5% Eye Drops are commonly used in ophthalmic practices to facilitate comprehensive eye examinations. This combination works by dilating the pupils, allowing eye care professionals to thoroughly inspect the internal structures of the eye.
Composition and Mechanism of Action
The eye drops contain two active ingredients:
Tropicamide 0.8%: An anticholinergic agent that temporarily paralyzes the muscles responsible for pupil constriction, leading to pupil dilation.
Phenylephrine 5%: An alpha-adrenergic agonist that stimulates the dilator muscles of the iris, further enhancing pupil dilation.

Butcher and Wren Ch. 16-19 live-read
Chapter 16:
Wren and her team make it to the jazz festival the last clue hinted at. Being around corpses as the main point of her job, she smells the decomposing body first. They follow the blowflies (infamous lovers of dead things) and find victim #3 under a stage, having died to a laceration on her neck.
The clues: a map for St. Louis Cemetery with a red X on plot #1503, as well as a smartwatch applied post-mortem. The numbers are inputted as a code and unlocks an alarm with 45 minutes left.
While I am once again frustrated at scenes being sliced into multiple short chapters, I do actually like the puzzle solving element. It adds a boost of urgency to the pacing.
Chapter 17:
Playlist: 'Don't Fear The Reaper' by Blue Oyster Cult
Apparently Jeremy has been steadily drugging Katie with a variant of Jamaican ginger, a common symptom being numb limbs and an unusual gait. She starts stumbling and being a drag, especially after Jeremy shoots her knee out. Emily tries to help but self-preservation kicks in which he is delighted by.
He cuts Katie's throat and leaves her to bleed out, a death that feels ominously similar to victim #3. Hmm.
Chapter 18:
Wren and Leroux drive to the cemetery after calling the ambulance to meet them there. They discuss the possibility of it being a trap.
Yeah this is a real nothing of a chapter. The above conversation could easily be tacked on the prior or next chapter.
Chapter 19:
Emily gets to the fence but it's electrified and she gets caught. He blurs her vision with tropicamide, something that does have some narrative purpose later but seems pointless on his part here; she's already familiar with his face and he's planning to kill her, what's the point of partial blindness now aside from being a bastard?
Jeremy chats about the medical phrase, 'C5, stay alive': this is a reference to the cervical spine (neck) and its connection to the diaphragm's function; injuries to C1-C4 vertebrate will be fatal while C5 has better odds albeit with considerable paralysis.
He assures Emily that he won't do that to her and promptly stabs the lumbar region (lower back), paralyzing her from the waist down. Jeremy then decides to leave her there for the rest of the night while she screams for him to back.
This is a scene I legitimately like. He's the predator in control playing with cornered prey and it works. Despite my other complaints, I have to acknowledge the positives.

My retinas are perfectly fine, as it turns out. But now I've gotta deal with the short term consequence that is the Tropicamide fucking with my vision.
Well ok then. I just had a crazy (reclaimed) visual disturbance that I've never had before. It's still ongoing, but it's calmed down enough that I can actually look at my screen and type.
It started with what looked like little flashes and blurry spots in my vision, almost as if someone had just taken photos of me with the flash on and my eyes had to readjust. Then it worked up to these trippy jagged shapes, which I'm not sure were floaters; they were like colourful crescents that moved back and forth in my vision. It was at this point that I tried to keep my eyes shut, though they were there when I closed my eyes. Next, I put eyedrops in (with my partner's help) and noticed a violent shaking / vibrating in my peripheral vision that was making me feel ill, like I was actually being shaken. I've never had that after putting in eye drops before. I had a very sudden change of mood and minor breakdown, worried it was something neurological (and I mean, it very well could be). After 5 minutes or so it went back to the first stage, or that feeling that my eyes are "coming to" after being flashed by a camera several times; only they aren't going back to normal. And the black floaters (which I often have a lot of anyway) are going wild right now. Altogether, it's been an issue for the past half hour or so, but the worst of it was over in 10 minutes.
So. What the fuck? Ocular migraine? Migraine aura? Something else? I didn't have a stroke (clearly). Google is saying multiple sclerosis, which isn't too much of a jump as I currently undergoing diagnosis for a series of health issues with the help of my GP and a rheumatologist, and MS definitely fits in there.
At the moment I'm erring towards it being an early sign of retinal detachment, as it's something my optometrist raised in 2020, and urged me to keep an eye (no pun intended) on. But God, I don't want that. I don't want eye surgery :( I booked an appointment with an optometrist tomorrow because it is scaring me THAT much.
