Epilogue
The landscape of Jotunheim extended to the feet of the high cliff. It was winter and therefore was everything covered in a thick blanket of snow and ice. It was bitterly cold today, but the sky was clear. A rare thing to happen in the harsh winters of Jotunheim.
On top of the cliff was standing Loki; wrapped up in the warmest furs. He gazed down on his home. He loved this place and often went here. A lot of memories were made on this cliff... With his father. With you. With his sons - who were approaching him. Steps could be heard in the crunching snow, as the twins came to stand beside him. "Dad..." Váli said, looking at him with concern. "Is everything alright?" Continued Áki. Loki smiled, nodding. "Oh, for sure." "Why did you want to meet us here then?" Loki teared his gaze away from the landscape and looked at Váli. "Because this place holds so many memories..." He then looked over at Áki. "And I wanted to add a new one."
Both men smiled; stepping closer and following their father's gaze. Loki placed his hands on one shoulder of each son. "Your grandfather took me here often and showed me what was ours. Told me stories about our home. About the cliffs and fields. About the Jotuns - and about the palace. One day, he brought me up here and showed me what was mine..." He squeezed their shoulders. "Today, I'm bringing you up here, to show you what is yours." Both, Váli and Áki swallowed at their dad's words.
Loki turned to face Váli again. "You are king now, son. You are ruling over the realm and leading all its people. And I know you are going to be a great king. Perhaps even a better one than I was. You are kind, wise and strong. Keep that up." With a smile, Loki turned to face Áki. "And you, son, are the leader of our army - and first advisor of the king. You are going to protect whole Jotunheim and stand by your brother's side. I couldn't image a better leader. You have your heart in the right place."
Once again, he gave their shoulders a squeeze and returned his gaze on the beautiful landscape ahead. "Whatever is going to happen in the future... To me, to your mother - or even to your husband and wife. I want you to always remember this place... Home."

By Emily Strasser | August 9, 2023
At the theater where I saw Oppenheimer on opening night, there was a handmade photo booth featuring a pink backdrop, “Barbenheimer in black letters, and a “bomb” made of an exercise ball wrapped in hoses. I want to tell you that I flinched, but I laughed and snapped a photo. It took a beat before I became horrified—by myself and the prop. Today is the 78th anniversary of the bombing of Nagasaki, which killed up to 70,000 people and came only three days after the bombing of Hiroshima that killed as many as 140,000 people. Yet still we make jokes of these weapons of genocide.
Oppenheimer does not make a joke of nuclear weapons, but by erasing the specific victims of the bombings, it repeats a sanitized treatment of the bomb that enables a lighthearted attitude and limits the power of the film’s message. I know this sanitized version intimately, because my grandfather spent his career building nuclear weapons in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, the site of uranium enrichment for the Hiroshima bomb. My grandfather died before I was born, and though there were photographs of mushroom clouds from nuclear tests hanging on my grandmother’s walls, we never discussed Hiroshima, Nagasaki, or the fact that Oak Ridge, still an active nuclear weapons production site, is also a 35,000-acre Superfund site. At the Catholic church in town, a pious Mary stands atop an orb bearing the overlapping ovals symbolizing the atom, and until it closed a few years ago, a local restaurant displayed a sign with a mushroom cloud bursting out of a mug of beer.
Oppenheimer does not show a single image of Hiroshima or Nagasaki. Instead, it recreates the horror through Oppenheimer’s imagination, when, during a congratulatory speech to the scientists of Los Alamos after the bombing of Hiroshima, the sound of the hysterically cheering crowd goes silent, the room flashes bright, and tatters of skin peel from the face of a white woman in the audience. The scene is powerful and unsettling, and, arguably, avoids sensationalizing the atrocity by not depicting the victims outright. But it also plays into a problematic pattern of whitewashing both the history and threat of nuclear war by appropriating the trauma of the Japanese victims to incite fear about possible future violence upon white bodies. An example of this pattern is a 1948 cover of John Hersey’s Hiroshima, which featured a white couple fleeing a city beneath a glowing orange sky, even though the book itself brought the visceral human suffering to American readers through the eyes of six actual survivors of the bombing.
The Oppenheimer film also neglects the impacts of fallout from nuclear testing, including from the Trinity test depicted in the film; the harm to the health of blue-collar production workers exposed to toxic and radiological materials; and the contamination of Oak Ridge and other production sites. Instead, the impressive pyrotechnics of the Trinity test, images of missile trails descending through clouds toward a doomed planet, and Earth-consuming fireballs interspersed with digital renderings of a quantum universe of swirling stars and atoms, elevate the bomb to the realm of the sublime—terrible, yes, but also awesome.
A compartmentalized project. The origins of this treatment can be traced to the Manhattan Project, when scientists called the bomb by the euphemistic code word “gadget” and the security policy known as compartmentalization limited workers’ knowledge of the project to the minimum necessary to complete their tasks. This policy helped to dilute responsibility and quash moral debates and dissent. Throughout the film, we see Oppenheimer move from resisting compartmentalization to accepting it. When asked by another scientist about his stance on a petition against dropping the bomb on Japan, he responds that the builders of the bomb do not have “any more right or responsibility” than anyone else to determine how it will be used, despite the fact that the scientists were among the few who even knew of its existence.
Due to compartmentalization, the vast majority of the approximately half-million Manhattan Project workers, like my grandfather, could not have signed the petition because they did not know what they were building until Truman announced the bombing of Hiroshima. Afterward, press restrictions limited coverage of the humanitarian impacts, giving the false impression that the bombings had targeted major military and industrial sites—and eliding the vast civilian toll and the novel horrors of radiation. Photographs and films of the aftermath, shot by Japanese journalists and American military, were classified and suppressed in the United States and occupied Japan.
The limit of theory. Not only is it dishonest and harmful to erase the suffering of the real victims of the bomb, but doing so moves the bomb into the realm of the theoretical and abstract. One recurring theme of the film is the limit of theory. Oppenheimer was a brilliant theorist but a haphazard experimentalist. A close friend and fellow scientist questions whether he’ll be able to pull off this massive, high-stakes project of applied theory. Just before the detonation of the Trinity test bomb, General Leslie Groves, the military head of the project, asks Oppenheimer about a joking bet overheard among the scientists regarding the possibility that the explosion would ignite the atmosphere and destroy the world. Oppenheimer assures Groves that they have done the math and the possibility is “near zero.” “Near zero?” Groves asks, alarmed. “What do you want from theory alone?” responds Oppenheimer.
Can the theoretical motivate humanity to action?
One telling scene shows Oppenheimer at a lecture on the impacts of the bomb. We hear the speaker describe how dark stripes on victims’ clothing were burned onto their skin, but the camera remains on Oppenheimer’s face. He looks at the screen, gaunt and glassy-eyed, for a few moments, before turning away. Americans are still looking away. As a country, we’ve succumbed to “psychic numbing,” as Robert Jay Lifton and Greg Mitchell call it in their book Hiroshima in America, which leads to general apathy about nuclear weapons—and pink mushroom clouds and bomb props for selfies.
On this anniversary of Nagasaki, the world stands on a precipice, closer than ever to nuclear midnight. The nine nuclear-armed states collectively possess more than 12,500 warheads; the more than 9,500 nuclear weapons available for use in military stockpiles have the combined power of more than 135,000 Hiroshima-sized bombs.
If Oppenheimer motivates conversation, activism, and policy shifts in support of nuclear abolition, that’s a good thing. But by relegating the bomb to abstracted images removed from actual humanitarian consequences, the film leaves the weapon in the realm of the theoretical. And as Oppenheimer says in the film, “theory will only take you so far.” Today, it’s vital that we understand the devastating impacts that nuclear weapons have had and continue to have on real victims of their production, testing, and wartime use. Our survival may depend on it.

Mind
is one of nine Spheres of magic in Mage: The Ascension. The Akashic Brotherhood have occupied the Seat of Mind in theCouncil of Nine Mystic Traditions since its founding. The Shard Realm of Mind maps physically to Neptune.
It is associated with Dynamism in the Metaphysical Trinity.
Overview:
Since human beings perceive reality through a complex interplay of consciousness, the Mind Sphere affects how a being sees the world around it. Such study leads to the investigation of thought, the existence of perfect forms, the idea of intelligence, and inquiry divorced from mere physical form.
The Mind magician can use thought to communicate, control, and wipe away the inaccuracies and errors of human misjudgment for the peaceful serenity of total concentration. All thought is open to the mage: From the refined sensibilities of human philosophy to the feral instincts of animals. Any thinking process can be comprehended and manipulated with sufficient skill.
Unlike the orderly Pattern Spheres, Mind magic tends to be a bit more "fuzzy" in its capabilities. An initiate can often perform tasks similar to what a more experienced mage could do, but not as well or with as much precision or variety. However, Mind constructs do seem to take on specific "thought objects." In some cases, a Mind magician can influence a particular concept just like a Pattern Sphere might be used to manipulate a material object.
To utilize the Archspheres of Mind, the mage has first to perfect the no-mind technique. Afterwards, they study the ephemeral Patterns of Mind and independent thought systems, by thinking and not-thinking at the same time.
Marks:
Mages with experience in Mind seem to be in a constant, meditative state. They tend to view the world with laser-focus intensity that penetrates illusions to reach their deeper truth. On occasion, they react to thought before they are actually spoken, reading reactions of people in a single glance or form intricately constructed chains of logic on a moment's notice.
Energies associated with Mind tend to be white or blue in color.
Limits:
While Mind is powerful, its effects never materialize in the physical world without the use of auxiliary Spheres. Offensive Mind effects (those that seek to influence or harm another's mind) base their difficulties on the target's Willpower Trait instead of the vulgar or coincidental spectrum. If the target is forced to do something against their nature, like committing suicide, the attempt becomes more difficult. Especially willful people might use their willpower later to resist the command.
For attacks against multiple targets, the difficulty for a Mind-based Effect depends upon the usual coincidental, vulgar, or vulgar with witnesses situations. Such Mind-based Effects are generally coincidental, although especially flamboyant feats might be vulgar instead.
Paradigmatic Interpretation:
Order of Hermes: The Order of Hermes call Mind the Ars Mentis, the sphere of pure intellectualization and reason. As a mirror of the Avatar, Mind reflects that self's intent, allowing the mage know himself, then through himself others and through multiple perspectives, the world. Using the mind as a way to cut away deception, Hermetics work with Mind to realize and conceive pure Truth.
Standard Powers:
[1 Dot]
Sense Thoughts and Emotions: Allows a mage to recognize thought and mood impulses around them.
Empower Self: Allows a mage to enhance their conscious abilities to improve mental skills.
Mind Shield: Allows a mage to build a shield around their mind, hiding their Aura. [2 Dots]
Read Surface Thoughts: Allows a mage to skim the contents of another's mind.
Create Impressions: Allows a mage to read the memories that have been left behind on objects or places.
Mental Impulse: Send a brief mental impulse (i.e rage, regret) against a target.
Empathic Bond: Establish a short empathic link between two persons. [3 Dots]
Mental Link: Establishes a link that allows the exchange of ideas or images between two persons.
Dreamwalk: Allows a mage to control their own mind during their sleep, allowing for lucid dreaming, the creation of a Demesne or even entrance into the Dreaming.
Project Illusions: Allows a mage to conjure mental images into a target.
Psychic Blast: Attacks a target's mind with painful thoughts. [4 Dots]
Control Conscious Mind: Allows a mage to invade another's mind.
Alter Consciousness: Allows a mage to alter one's mind, changing memories and setting up posthypnotic suggestions and commands.
Astral Projection: Allows a mage to project their own mind away from their physical form into the penumbra of the Astral Reaches. [5 Dots]
Control Subconscious: Allows a mage to rewrite a subject's personality and beliefs totally.
Untether: Allows a mage to separate their mind from their body for an extended period of time, leaving their body behind.
Forge Psyche: Allows the mage to create an intelligence out of nowhere (Auxiliary Spheres are needed to anchor this intelligence somewhere).

Hello any thoughts on the new jjk poster? People at X were confused whether the silhouette featured in the middle is Gojo or Megumi, although most conclude it's Gojo cause it does look like the panel from Shibuya when his reflection showed on the prison realm's eyes.
But, I kinda feel like Gege is being purposely deceptive here (cause that silhouette could really pass off as Megumi as well). For starters, the illustration feels like an overview of the entire Culling Games arc up until the current chap (esp. with Heian form Sukuna featured). And what's been at the forefront of the main cast's goal is to save Megumi (or at least that's how it is in Yuji's case). There's also the thing with Kenjaku's rule that everyone with the exception of Geto and Megumi must die for the CG to end. And feel free to correct me on this cause I may be misremembering/misinterpreting, but I've always thought the rule meant that 'Megumi and Geto must be the only ones left alive in order for the games to end'. So Megumi's survival is also to Kenjaku's best interest. And then we have Sukuna who is currently possessing Megumi, and Gojo and Yuji attempting to 'save' him. So like, the four main guys featured in the poster is involved with Megumi's current predicament one way or another.
Another reason why I think the silhouette isn't Gojo is because by chap 236 I believe he finally got an answer for Geto's question about who Gojo Satoru is, basically gaining enlightenment in death. And that scene of his reflection on the prison realm was moreso symbolic of his identity crisis right? So I think it's weird that a CG themed poster would backtrack on this despite the fact that the Gojo sealed in PR plotline was like how many chapters ago. The narrative and Gojo has moved on basically. And I also think it's redundant to feature Gojo twice in that illustration (esp. cause his unsealing is no longer the focus of the current events).
So I wonder, if the silhouette is indeed Megumi and this might be a hint on how he may come back, is the Prison Realm going to play a role in it?
Interestingly enough, there was a theory I came across before that one of the ways the main cast may go about sealing Sukuna is by using the Prison Realm. And if we're going full on with the symbolisms, and apply Gojo's confusion on his 'identity' being reflected on the PR's eyes, I think Megumi's current state may also mirror that very same concept. In the sense that, with Tsumiki (his moral compass) gone he has to reevaluate himself on a fundamental level. Basically rebuilding his identity from the ground up.
And idk I'm rambling now, I hope I'm making any sense cause I'm pretty shit at explaining my points. Anyways, maybe I'm just missing my boy but I sure do hope the center of that illustration is really Meg instead of Gojo.
I'm assuming you mean this one:
??
Let me overthink the hell out of it under the cut...
Ok so first thing's first, this is defo another mandala like the one from that jump giga issue with Yuji at the center.
What's relevant about the idea that it is a mandala, is that, in Buddhism they represent the universe and/or Buddhist teachings. I particularly like the idea that a "mandala generally represents the spiritual journey, starting from outside to the inner core, through layers" (Wikipedia).
Similarly, from a psych standpoint, Jung saw the mandala as a symbol of wholeness:
“I began to understand that the goal of psychic development is the self. There is no linear evolution; there is only a circumambulation of the self.”
circumambulation... what a word tho
“The mandala is an archetypal image [that]... signifies the wholeness of the Self. This circular image represents the wholeness of the psychic ground or, to put it in mythic terms, the divinity incarnate in man.”
I think I've talked about the Self in an ask before, where the Self (soul) (4) is the total sum of the holy trinity--mind is body is spirit (3).
ehem... you know the drill...
That said, I do agree with you that I don't think it's necessarily Gojo because, if we're talking about a mandala as a symbol of wholeness, it is redundant to show Gojo twice. Rather, it feels like Gojo is part of said wholeness.
Regarding the "eye" at the center, I do like the idea that it is an eye upon which someone can see themselves reflected the way it happened for Gojo.
Crack theory here, but what if this is actually about the reader seeing themselves reflected upon the manga--more specifically the four characters drawn on the mandala.
That's just a thought tho.
Regardless of who is meant to be reflected at the center, this particular poster is just loaded with symbolism.
It's kind of interesting you have two "good" guys and two "bad" guys represented in this drawing, so there is very clear yin/yang symbolism in it.
Each side (good and bad) has a character upside down, we also have the good guys not directly facing the audience, while the bad guys directly face the audience.
One of the things that feels very relevant about this particular positioning is that there is a circular motion happening, in other words, you can look at each character in a clockwise or counter-clockwise manner. Why does this matter? Remember that word from Jung's quote? Circumambulation fuck this word is the ritualistic act of moving around a sacred object. In Buddhism in particular, circumambulation is done in a clock-wise manner.
Ok, next layer.
Another VERY prominent symbol is the number four. I already talked about the wholeness of the Self as represented by the number four, but you will also notice the number is repeated in the poster.
In Buddhism, the number four shows up in a lot of motifs... too many to address here. One representation of the number four is the Four Inverted Views, which represent inverted views of Buddhist ideals, but there's also the Four Noble Truths, of which, the 4th truth outlines the method through which we can overcome suffering--that is, following the eightfold path.
The number eight as a motif also shows up with Maho-chan, who belongs to the Eight Legions of divine beings, and whose eight-spoke wheel symbolizes dharma.
Perhaps not so coincidentally, Maho's wheel is featured in the top left and bottom right hand corner of the poster.
ANYWAYS...
So this is the thing, right... going back to this idea that a character sees itself reflected in someone else's eyes and defines their identity based on that reflection, whomever is reflected in the eye at the center of the mandala is made whole by all 4 of the characters in the mandala.
What is interesting is that Gojo and Yuji are not looking directly at the audience, while Kenny and Sukuna are. And there's something so entrancing (mandalas are technically meant to put people in a meditative trance) about the way Sukuna and Kenny stare directly at the audience.
Ok, to put it all together though, it's almost like all of these characters make up a whole. To me, the circular motion of the mandala speaks to an exploration of identity through the eyes of these characters.
To bring it back to the idea that a mandala is also a map of spiritual evolution moving in a concentric manner from the outer edges and into the center, it feels like these characters and the themes they represent are but pit stops or stages of psychospiritual evolution on the way to "enlightenment town".
As for Mahoraga's wheel being represented, it speaks to Dharma or cosmic and moral order.
Is Maho's wheel an allusion to Megumi? idk, but I'm going to make a crazy leap of logic here and say that one of the themes at the core of Megumi's character is his gray morality and his dualistic thinking around good and evil.
With good and evil so clearly depicted by the characters represented, I kind of have to wonder because they are positioned in a cross-type shape. Esoterically, a cross can represent a union of opposites as well.
Anyways... these are my #thought and I rambled too, but hopefully this helps you with your own #thoughts. I feel like you could be on the right track with the idea that Megumi's identity is being rebuilt from the ground up if he is the character reflected at the center of the mandala.
Also, I miss Megumi too, anon... can't wait to see what the suffering he's experiencing makes of him.
Thanks for dropping by 🥲.

Day One: Genesis 1-3
4/22/24
I was gonna read through chapter 4 but this post was getting pretty long already so I decided to stop here. I did say I was prone to rambling...
Definitely not going to go this in-depth every single time 😅 my 12th grade Sacred Scripture class just happened to spend a lot of time on the Creation narrative so I have a lot of previous knowledge I want to share.
Genesis 1
Looking through my 12th grade theology notes on the creation narrative, I have a table there that looks like this:
Realm | Ruler Time | Sun, moon, stars Space | Birds Life | Land animals Sabbath | Man
I wish I had taken more in-depth notes. I feel like there should be much more to say on this but I can't elaborate. I think I understand what that means but not enough to explain it. Although, thinking of the sun, moon and stars as being created to "rule" light makes the idea of light being created before the sun make a little more sense to me.
"God said, 'let the earth produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and fruit trees, each bearing fruit of its own kind within it." Gen 1:11
Okay, maybe slightly off-topic, but I've always wondered if there were any foods that Jesus didn't like. Because I mean, he's God, so he created them, but he's also human, so I would assume that maybe that means he had the human experience of having certain foods he didn't care for. Did he ever eat a vegetable as a kid and then go "why did I make this"?
"God said, 'let us make man in our own image, in the likeness of ourselves, and let them be masters of the fish of the sea, the birds of heaven, the cattle, all the wild animals and all the creatures that creep along the earth.' Gen 1:26
Let US make man in OUR own image, in the likeness of OURSELVES. I never noticed that before. I thought it might just be this translation but I went and checked RSV and NAB and they both say that as well. Is God referring to himself as the trinity? All the way back in Genesis chapter 1? Or...am I just...thinking too hard about it?
This is one of the scenarios where I wish I could understand Hebrew because I want to go and read this passage in the original Hebrew. I'm marking this verse to come back to later.
Also, my favorite explanation of the Trinity and the one that makes the most sense to me is this: if human beings are made of a body, soul, and a will, and they are made in God's image, then God is also made of a body, soul, and a will—with Jesus as the body, the Father as the soul, and the Holy Spirit as the will.
Genesis 2
"But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you are not to eat; for the day you eat of that you shall die." Gen 2:17
From the footnotes: Eating from this tree means usurping the divine privilege of deciding what is good and what is evil; the temptation is to proud independence, questioning God's judgement of good and evil.
This is indeed the way the tree of the knowledge of good and evil was explained to me in 12th grade, which I am thankful for because it used to be so confusing to me when I was younger. I thought it meant that eating from the tree would grant the ability to tell the difference between good and evil, and I could never understand how that would be a bad thing.
It also makes perfect sense because it seems the root of practically all problems in society is that everyone has their own ideas about what constitutes moral goodness. Even as a bad Catholic who struggles to wrap her head around her own faith I cringe every time I hear the "you have your truth, I have mine" line.
"The LORD God said, 'It is not good that the man should be alone. I shall make him a helper as a partner.'" Gen 2:18
My mom quotes this verse whenever my dad does something dumb.
"Then the LORD God made the man fall into a deep sleep. And while he was asleep, he took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh in its place. The LORD God built the rib he had taken from the man into a woman, and brought her to the man." Gen 2:21-22
According to my theology teacher, the ancient Hebrews believed the soul was contained in the chest/lungs and that the rib protected the soul; so Even being formed from a rib means women are built to be protectors of the soul..? Or...something like that. Again, I wish I'd taken more thorough notes.
There was also this thing I heard from somewhere else about how calling women inferior to men because Eve was created from a piece of Adam is dumb, because the pattern of creation is that each new thing God created was better than the last, and Eve was the last thing he created. But that sounds like a point a radical feminist would make so I'm sure that wasn't the whole explanation haha because I'm fairly certain the speaker was a conservative Catholic man.
Genesis 3
"Now, the snake was the most cunning of all the wild animals that the LORD God had made. It asked the woman, 'Did God really say you were not to eat from any of the trees in the garden?'" Gen 3:1
I have always wondered why the devil is portrayed this way and that's still something I don't quite understand.
From the footnotes: In Hebr., 'snake' and 'dragon' are the same word; the dragon will lose its proud stance and become wormlike.
If we're imagining the serpent in the garden as not a tiny talking snake, but a giant monstrous serpent, it's sort of weird that Adam just...lets it chat with his wife. Because he was standing right there—
"She also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate it." Gen 3:6
Another thing my theology teacher said: "Every covenant failure begins with a man failing to stand up for his bride."
"Then the eyes of both of them were opened and they realized they were naked. So they sewed fig leaves together to make themselves loincloths." Gen 3:7
I have a few things to say about this verse. The first is just that I've heard the tree of the knowledge of good and evil is believed to be a fig tree, both because it mentions Adam and Eve sew together fig leaves here and also because of that one passage in the New Testament where Jesus curses a fig tree.
Also, I noticed that the very first thing that happened after committing original sin was that Adam and Eve felt shame and immediately began to hide themselves from God.
I think there has to be some significance to their being ashamed of their naked bodies, something that relates to how throughout history human sexuality has been perverted, but it's not something I can put into words right now.
"He said, 'Who told you that you were naked? Have you been eating from the tree from which I forbade you to eat?' The man replied, 'The woman you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit from the tree, and I ate it.'" Gen 3:11
This was something else I heard: obviously God already knew that they ate from the tree; what he is doing here is giving them the chance to confess. Like, as in the sacrament of reconciliation, I think.
Also, Adam immediately pointing fingers at his wife like a kid trying to get out of a punishment. Very classy of him. Eve also tries to blame the serpent but I feel like it's a little worse that Adam tries to blame her, since they are supposed to be partners who love and protect each other.
"'I shall put enmity / between you and the woman, / and between your offspring and hers; / he will bruise your head / and you will strike his heel.'" Gen 3:15
First of all, does anyone know why verses 14-19 are written in this format that's reminiscent of books like Psalms and Isaiah?
Secondly—although, this is probably common knowledge so I probably don't need to say this here—
The woman's offspring = Jesus
He will bruise your head = Jesus will triumph over sin
You will strike his heel = At the same time, he will suffer and die
Okay! So, that was Genesis chapters 1 through 3. This turned out a lot longer than I thought it would be. Again, please do not expect this level of detail from me through this whole series. 😅
The thing is, I find this stuff fascinating and I can talk about it like this but when it comes to actually believing it I have such a hard time wrapping my head around it. Even with everything I learned in that class there's still so much I don't understand.
I suppose there will always be things I don't understand, because there are things that we don't even have definite answers to. And those are the gaps that faith is supposed to fill.
Here's one of the stupid questions I have that I mentioned in my first post: does reciting prayers make a difference?
Right now I especially struggle with prayer and reciting prayers such as the Our Father is the only way I feel I'm capable of praying right now. But it doesn't feel like anything. It just feels like me saying words, even if I try to reflect on what they mean. Should I still say them anyway? What value does it have if I don't feel like I'm actually connecting with God?
Thank you to anyone who actually took the time to read this whole thing (if anyone did, that is...) and especially thank you to the support I have already received. I feel welcomed :)

For a trick or treat request, Lucifer/Constantine!!!
Never say I'm not predictable :P
Happy Halloween!! What a great way to start!
Read here, or on AO3
“I’m just saying, with the veils thinned as much as they are, it’s the perfect time for us to have a nice little holiday in Faerie. We could spend a few days, get into some fun trouble, relax a bit, recharge.”
“And I’m just saying, this is a busy time of year for- There! Another summoning! That makes thirty-two in the last five minutes. I swear, when I find out who put the instructions for a true summoning online, I’m going to hang them from the walls of Dis by their entrails and let a flock of harpies nest in their thoracic cavity. What do you think? The red, or the grey?”
Lucifer turned from the mirror, holding one then another tie against his chest to get a second opinion. He wore a vibrant three blue suit with silver pinstripes and a crisp white shirt with black stud buttons that gleamed and John was certain if he looked close enough he would see tortured souls swirling around in them. He had been making a point of not looking too close in general while his lover got ready to leave. It was a matter of principle. He was in a sulk, after all.
“The red,” John huffed and crumpled his empty beer can to toss in the general direction of the bin at the other end of the couch. It went wide and vanished from the air before it could hit the carpet and splash it with the remaining drops still left in it, and reappeared an instant later in the metals bin under the kitchen sink. Lu hated a mess in their flat. And when John had started thinking of it as their flat, he had no idea, but the thought didn’t freak him out as much as he thought it should. “It’ll make you look like a politician. Really scare the kiddies who are calling on you.”
His lip wasn’t jutted out. It really wasn’t. He was John Constantine, the One Most Hated. The Laughing Magician who had bent the lords of hell to his will. He didn’t pout.
“Stop pouting, dear.” Lucifer finished knotting the tie in a neat trinity and tucked it behind his waistcoat before leaning over the couch to catch John by the chin. “I’ll make it up to you tomorrow. You know that thinned veil nonsense is just Victorian claptrap that stuck around. If I wanted to take you between realms, it wouldn’t matter the time of year, I could just-” He raised his hands and snapped his fingers. The mirror shimmered and distorted for a moment then showed a stretch of woodland with nymphs running from enthusiastic satyrs and pixies flitting about to call encouragement. Far in the distance the faint sound of a horn could be heard, calling for a hunt. The image twisted again then vanished to show the reflection of their living room once more.
“I know that, and you know that, but the sense of tradition is still important,” John pointed out, turning his face in Lucifer’s hand to press his cheek into his palm instead.
“Just admit that you’re going to be bored and lonely.”
“I am not.”
“John.”
“I am going to be…” He huffed again, then bit out “Lonely and bored.” He’d be further damned (Which would make it about twenty-seventh by that point) if he would give in that easily.
“You really are a pain in the arse, you know that?” Hitching his trousers, Lucifer crouched then knelt on the floor in front of John, forcing him to spread his legs to make room for him. He ran his palms over his thighs and up to his hips where he held him. “I will try to be quick. They’re probably all teenagers; a bit of fire and brimstone is all they’re hoping for. Anyone trying anything serious tonight, I’ll leave to one of the underlings to torment for a while. Once it hits midnight in California, it should quiet down. Then I’m all yours.”
John closed his legs around Lucifer, pinning him in place. He refused to look down at him, knowing that once he did, he’d be done for. Instead, he reached out and slid his fingers into his silky hair, twirling his fingers through it. It was loose and unstyled, getting long enough to start to curl, but not so long it could be pulled back into a tail yet. A lock always fell across his forehead, turning up just at the bridge of his nose. “Three weeks in Faerie, to make up for it,” he told him firmly.
“Two,” Lucifer countered and turned his head to nip the inside of John’s lips just hard enough to leave a mark.
“Three, and I’ll find out who tracked down your summoning.”
Full lips curved into a wicked smile and Lucifer slipped his hands from John’s hips to between his thighs where the front of his pyjama bottoms had been gradually tenting out since he sank to his knees in front of him. He lowered his head and pressed the flat of his tongue against the thickening head through the worn flannel. It jumped under his tongue and bumped up between his lips. “Two,” he offered again, letting his warm breath puff over the damp spot in the cloth before closing his mouth around John and giving him a long, firm suck. With his thumb, he flicked open the button fly and pulled off just long enough to reach inside to pull John’s cock free so he could focus his bargaining. He kissed the very tip in adoration as he stroked the length in his closed fist.
“Two ‘n a half,” John continued valiantly, already melting into the couch cushions and spreading his legs wider. His stubbornness was battling it out with his desperate horniness, and he didn’t know what was going to win.
Or at least he didn’t, until Lu did that thing with his tongue stud that made him see the entire cosmos stretched out in front of him, or maybe he was just lightheaded from all the blood in his skull rocketing south so fast it practically went nyoom in his veins and it made his vision go all fuzzy. Either way, his argument died in his mouth and was replaced with pitiful little noises of pleasure and even more pitiful words of love and praise. He sagged back on the couch and pumped his hips as much as the strong hand on his thigh allowed. John buried one hand in his own hair, the other in Lucifer’s tugging both.
It was over embarrassingly fast, Lucifer knew his body so well. He knew just when to suck and when to twirl his tongue, when to stroke and when to squeeze. When to bob his head and when to pull back. And when to pull off completely to catch a splash of thick come across his lips and cheek. It dripped off the point of his chin to spill onto his tie, and the sight of it left John bucking once more.
Lucifer took his pocket square from his jacket and dabbed daintily at the mess on his face.
He left the streak of come on his tie where it was.
“Two,” he said again, licking the corner of his mouth, letting the pearly white smear cling to the tip of his tongue before pulling it in to swallow. “And I’ll-” His eyes went out of focus for a moment and he snarled in annoyance then shook his head. “Oh, for… I’m coming!” The devil rose gracefully to his feet, leaned over John to press a quick kiss to his lips. “Fine. Three. I’ll need the break, too.”
There was no puff of smoke or clap of thunder. He was simply there one moment, gone the next.
And John was sitting there with his dick still hard.
Already missing him.

@kirbyoctournament
get chisped lol
Name: Popato Chisp (Chisp for short)
Reference Images:
Notes on Personality (optional, but preferred!): honestly he is just a silly little guy!! difficult for me personally to describe personalities but he's like a sillyboy to me. he's just a little guy. honestly. look at him.
Backstory and Lore (optional): OKAY. OKAY SO I HAVE A DIRECT QUOTE FROM THE PERSON WHO MADE CHISP (MY GOOD CLOSE FRIEND FLINTHEART HIIII FLINTHEART) BUT ALSO MY OWN LITTLE INFODUMP BECAUSE CHISP IS NEAR AND DEAR TO MY HEART. as a fair warning though a lot (not all! simply a lot) of this takes place in a huge crossover rp and isn't even in the kirby universe but he originated from kirby so he counts :3
Chisp is only a very little waddle dee! He's not a baby persay but moreso around 6, i think? He struggles communicating verbally like the other waddle dees because of how young he is and a general nervousness about talking so he uses nonverbal communications!! And my cannon for Chisp is that before he started realm hopping he was one of the waddle dees that travelled to the kingdom of the sky to rescue Dedede with kirby, but after it was all over he was!!! The only person to go and stay with Taranza, while everyone else went back to dreamland, chisp just sat next to Taranza and gave him a little shoulder pat, and that was when Taranza sort of, took Chisp in as like, a cool uncle figure, training his realm hopper abilities and such, Although as a "Pop-In Friend", and part of the reason chisp is so proud of his abilities is because its usually very hard for a waddle dee to stand out, they're mostly just faces in the crowd and chisp is nonverbal, as well so he finds it even harder, so having a close good friend who can teach him what makes him special was the first time chisp felt like an independent little guy!
^ flintheart wrote this everyone tell flintheart that chisp is so so cool i love you chisp
OKAY SO. my turn now. cracks knuckles. doesn't do that actually because it's Uncomfortable to do lol
SO CHISP IS JUST A LITTLE GUY RIGHT. living his life basically existing on dreamland. he's like a kid. we love him.
so one day this rift opens, right?? but not to forgotten land actually though to a different placce. to. okay you're going to fucking hate me. we've dubbed it ohio. and a couple of people end up going through that rift! not on purpose of course. but kirby goes through, king dedede goes through, taranza ends up going through it was later
and chisp. chisp is also in ohio. through... through the rift, right?
through the rift, right?
nope! chip is a realm hopper! or, as they're known in dreamland, pop-in friends! (which is such a cute name for them btw than you flintheart)
and those are something specific to ohio lore and not part of kirby but shhhhh. it's fun. anyways realm hoppers can teleport! and!!!! most importantly!!! they can just travel between dimensions!! like for fun! not even through a rift either like a lot of interdimensional travel is, just like teleporting, but through other dimensions it's very fun. i would imagine. i wouldn't know obviously i'm not a realm hopper they aren't real but it SOUNDS fun.
anyways chisp is a realm hopper and he's in ohio and he's ALSO. a child. and! he ends up getting adopted :) by one of my ocs, trinity. she's like just some girl. it's hard being a single mother when you're 15 and your child is a waddle dee and your friend slash crush keeps saying "waddle deez nuts" /lh
ANYWAYS THEY'RE SO /POS
trinity is a realm hopper too!! she's only ever told chisp though because she's scared something bad might happen if more people find out. sad! but this isn't about her.
anyways fun little facts: - chisp actually chose his name! trinity wrote down a bunch of names her friends suggested and let chisp pick which one he wanted (or write his own if he wanted to) and he picked popato chisp! chisp for short!
- trinity is refusing to acknowledge her crush on kat. chisp is trying to play matchmaker with them :3
- chisp is nonverbal!!
- chisp and trinity have little matching friendship bracelets
- chisp has been taught by someone trinity knows how to play guitar!
- kat is Going to give him a sword. you can not stop this from happening.
- trinity dyed her hair orange to match him :3 - yes he is named after popato chisps of undertale true lab fame. thank you for noticing
#idk what to tag this as tbh#kirby oc#not my oc#my friend's oc#:)#chisp#chisp is his own tag i think#popato chisp#my beloved. popato chisp

Epic Diana.
You may think I tend to obsess once I find a dislike on something.
Sadly, you may be right.
I came back to the image of Diana
which completed the heroic triptic of the Trinity:
TBH, I don't think so.
Without looking too much, I've found a few images from Jim Lee himself which better fit into the trilogy:
Even, you can argue she belongs in this devastation better than the bland background Lee designed for her: She can be the guardian of the mythic realm, preventing for any creature escaping Hades and any god wrecking havoc on Earth by keeping an eye on Olympus. A small variant in color can help to cement that idea:
Et voilá.
There are other images by Lee himself, I find more suitable for the trilogy:
An oldie but goodie, with Diana in a dynamic pose far more in tune with the other two heroes. An appropriate background is needed. Little effort and a lot more imagination.
Other artists can also provide sources of inspiration:
But let's not get in infringements of copyrights.
My point is even though Lee is a great artists, he dropped the ball on this one. I expected more. The images of Batso and Supes are on fire, Diana's image is lame AF. He should've leave the triptic incomplete.
IMHO.
I love to rant.

Film Review - Oppenheimer
Now we come to what I feel has been the cinematic centrepiece of 2023 films, and after so long on science-fiction franchises, it’s a real breath of fresh air in the realm of war-era biographical drama from what I’ve recently been looking through. Yes, folks, this is my review of Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer…
Plot (as adapted from Wikipedia):
In 1926, the 22-year-old doctoral student J. Robert Oppenheimer grapples with anxiety and homesickness while studying experimental quantum physics under Patrick Blackett at the University of Cambridge. Oppenheimer clashes with Blackett and leaves him a poisoned apple but later retrieves it. Visiting scientist Niels Bohr advises Oppenheimer to study theoretical physics at the University of Göttingen.
Oppenheimer completes his PhD and meets scientist Isidor Isaac Rabi. They later meet theoretical physicist Werner Heisenberg in Switzerland. Wanting to expand quantum physics research in the US, Oppenheimer teaches at the University of California, Berkeley and the California Institute of Technology. He marries Katherine "Kitty" Puening, a biologist and ex-communist, and has an intermittent affair with Jean Tatlock, a troubled communist psychiatrist who later dies by suicide.
When nuclear fission is discovered in 1938 after the Germans succeed in splitting the atom, Oppenheimer realizes it could be weaponized. In 1942, during World War II, US Army Colonel Leslie Groves, the director of the Manhattan Project, recruits Oppenheimer as the director of the Los Alamos Laboratory to develop an atomic bomb. Oppenheimer fears the German nuclear research program, led by Heisenberg, might yield a fission bomb for the Nazis.
Oppenheimer assembles a team consisting of Rabi, Hans Bethe, and Edward Teller, and collaborates with the scientists Enrico Fermi, Leo Szilard, and David L. Hill at the University of Chicago. Teller's calculations reveal an atomic detonation could destroy the world. After consulting with Albert Einstein, Oppenheimer concludes the chances are acceptably low. Teller attempts to leave the project after his proposal to construct a hydrogen bomb is rejected, but Oppenheimer convinces him to stay.
After Germany's surrender in 1945, some scientists question the bomb's relevance. Oppenheimer believes it would end the ongoing Pacific War and save Allied lives. The Trinity test is successful, and President Harry S. Truman orders the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, resulting in Japan's surrender. Though publicly praised, Oppenheimer is guilt-ridden and haunted by the destruction and mass fatalities. After Oppenheimer expresses his guilt to Truman, the president berates him and dismisses his plea to cease further atomic development.
As an advisor to the United States Atomic Energy Commission (AEC), Oppenheimer's stance generates controversy, while Teller's hydrogen bomb receives renewed interest amidst the burgeoning Cold War. AEC Chairman Lewis Strauss resents Oppenheimer for publicly dismissing Strauss's concerns about exporting radioisotopes and for recommending negotiations with the Soviet Union after the Soviets successfully detonated their own bomb. Strauss also believes that Oppenheimer denigrated him during a conversation Oppenheimer had with Einstein in 1947.
In 1954, wanting to eliminate Oppenheimer's political influence, Strauss secretly orchestrates a private security hearing before a Personnel Security Board concerning Oppenheimer's Q clearance during which his loyalty to the United States is questioned. However, the hearing is a trial in all but name. Oppenheimer's past communist ties are exploited and his associates' testimony is twisted against him, with Teller's being the most damaging. After Kitty delivers impassioned testimony in defence of herself and her husband, the board no longer suspects Oppenheimer of disloyalty but revokes his clearance, thereby damaging his public image and limiting his influence on American nuclear policy.
In 1959, during Strauss's Senate confirmation hearing for Secretary of Commerce, Hill testifies about Strauss's personal motives for engineering Oppenheimer's downfall. Strauss's nomination is voted down. In 1963, President Lyndon B. Johnson presents Oppenheimer with the Enrico Fermi Award as a gesture of political rehabilitation.
A flashback reveals that Oppenheimer and Einstein's 1947 conversation never mentioned Strauss. Instead, the two discussed Oppenheimer’s legacy, and Oppenheimer expressed his fear that they had indeed started a chain reaction that will destroy the world.
Review:
What began for me as just something I was just kind of curious to see at the cinema has, in hindsight, probably turned out to be my top film of 2023. While efforts in the MCU, DC live-action and animation and the Transformers have wowed audiences with some element of spectacle or other, Oppenheimer wows us with acting ability and an all-star cast delivers on a great story. Of course, when a film is handling the kind of subject matter that Oppenheimer does, a great story narrative is crucial, and thankfully the film delivers. Now it isn’t a completely accurate story, but it is apparently very accurate, and where the inaccuracies occur, I would argue that these do not detract from the film we are presented with. Why? Well, let’s consider where the inaccuracies lie and we shall see.
Firstly, like any film, Oppenheimer is not a factual documentary, but a feature-length dramatic narrative, and moreover, it is based on a specific biography about Oppenheimer written by people other than Oppenheimer or any close family, friends or contemporaries. As such, the medium of this story and its source material will bring inaccuracy to the table even before any effort is made to actually write a story. Second, while some wider events are omitted, that is because they didn’t happen to Oppenheimer, so looking at the impact of nuclear weapons on Japan, other sites involved in the Manhattan project and the aftermath among Native Americans in the Los Alamos area isn’t relevant to this particular re-telling of this history. The film is about the title character, so its focus isn’t going to be on wider events.
As such, if people want to see wider events in film in the wake of Oppenheimer, if Nolan’s work is to spark a cinematic chain reaction as much as the real Oppenheimer’s work set off a chain reaction of nuclear proliferation, then I would say write those films and get them made. Don’t just criticise this film for not covering a wider perspective of things; if people really care about seeing more of World War 2 than just your bog-standard Pacific naval battle or soldiers and tanks rolling over Europe, then they need to put pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard. This is what I do to try and create fiction with autistic main characters like myself, and if I knew more about World War 2, I’d probably dive into that myself. We should see the other aspects of nuclear weapons being developed back in the 1940’s, as well as American internment camps for Japanese-Americans, a more nuanced and less America-centric look at the events preceding Pearl Harbour, and so on. However, it is not the place of this specific film to tell those stories, as Oppenheimer is as much a biographical film as it is a war film, so let’s let it be what it is and make other war films to tell the wider stories.
The only other inaccuracy, or supposed inaccuracy, relates to the poison apple scene from early in the film. This is apparently something Oppenheimer himself recounted, but it’s not anything that can apparently be substantiated. However, given that some later film scenes take us into the imaginings of certain characters, particularly Kitty Oppenheimer, and given that the supposed poisoning occurs when Oppenheimer was homesick and sleep-deprived, it could well be that what Oppenheimer believed to happen was simply his sleep-deprived mind confusing imagination with reality, and his recounting of the event later could simply indicate he never untangled the two. Regardless of whether this event is true or simply an error in the biography that the film replicates, it’s one of many examples that shows Oppenheimer to be a fundamentally complex, contradictory and fascinating human being.
The film handles its presentation of Oppenheimer’s life and work very well, in large part due to Cillian Murphy’s performance in the lead role, backed up by one of the most amazing all-star ensemble casts I’ve ever seen. Many of the cast are people I recognise from at least one past film or another that I’ve seen, and not one of them ever seems to put a foot wrong here. If I have any critique of the film, it’s only that some of the more badgering moments in Oppenheimer’s security clearance appeal hearings were not my personal cup of tea, which doesn’t detract in any way from the overall quality of the film, nor from its end score. 10 out of 10, hands down, and I would say that a lot of film makers need to watch this film before making anything more either in wholly original films or franchise instalments, because Oppenheimer really helps to showcase what other films are currently lacking.

From Supanova to SMASH - A Convention-al Story
In the city of Sydney, Australia, there aren’t too many events where nerds can get together to celebrate pop-culture. Sure, we have a somewhat lowkey medieval fair that’s located about 62 kilometres away from the heart of the city (or, as we Sydneysiders like to call it: the CBD, which stands for central business district) as well as a few few board game events, but the ones that really catch the attention of most people are the holy trinity: Supanova, SMASH and OZ Comic-Con. None of which are as big as any of the events held overseas. That means that many of the guests certainly aren’t as up to snuff as those that attend similar events in America. We certainly don’t attract A-list Hollywood actors for a start!
Although, several years back, we did have Chuck Norris down under. So, that’s a plus?
Long story short, San Diego Comic-Con, this is not. There is no dedicated Hall H to showcase all the latest films that are in the works. Nor do we have attendees like James Gunn or Jamie Lee Curtis coming through.
It’s a far simpler affair than all that.
One that I had intended to check out again with @bleachpanda. Unfortunately, to my dismay, my friend couldn’t wouldn’t attend with me. She said she’d undertaken a translation course with mandatory classes on the weekend. I called bullshit, of course. But she was adamant that there were limitations to how many classes she could skip.
So, I was left to attend Supanova on my lonesome.
Or so I thought!
Enter @mrsarmageddon!
A starry-eyed Generation Zed that I’d taken under my wing at work as the older, wiser and cooler colleague. Little did SHE know that I was actually a cantankerous miser who shook my fists at all the younglings throwing out words like ‘slaaay’ and ‘yaas queen.’
I think I might have thrown up in my mouth a little.
Anyways, she’d recently joined my team and I’d threatened that if she so much as thought to ask me questions, I’d bore her to tears by listing useless facts about Star Wars or Harry Potter or whatever video game that I could think of in that moment. But instead of being turned off, she’d actually seemed excited! In fact, she wanted more!
After some light Facebook stalking, I discovered she was one of those Tumblr fiends back in the day. One who was tangentially involved in the SuperWhoLock fandom.
But more importantly, she was ALSO big into musicals. And, although, she didn’t read as much fantasy fiction as I did, she had delved deep into the realm of YA.
I had found...a kindred spirit. A mini-me! One that I could sculpt into my own image with just the right encouragement.
Purely by chance!
Okay, well, maybe it might be a tad bit impossible to make them COMPLETELY like me. I am, of course, the superior and more worldly lifeform that is perfect in every way - an Apex Predator if you will - in the world of social interaction.
Honestly, it’s not everyday that I find someone that ticks most of my interest boxes and gets all of my references. This was something special. I could feel it in my bones.
(Editorial Kyndaris here: The claim of being an Apex Predator? Yeah, that’s a lie. I’m actually the complete opposite. Honestly, I’m definitely more of a wallflower. And an incredibly awkward one at that. I’m a person who sits on the sidelines and who just thinks terrible thoughts of the people around me. NO-ONE should idolise me in any way and I’m certainly not a good role model for anyone to emulate).
In any case, @mrsarmageddon was not good at making good financial decisions. Despite already going to Dreamhack in Melbourne earlier in the year, she still wanted to go to Supanova. Something I, the enabler, well...supported! After all, going to such events is much more fun with friends. Even those that you meet through work.
Is it a little strange to see them outside the work context and free from the confines of Microsoft Teams? Sure. But well, what can you do?
Arriving early at Supanova, I snuck in late to the Cristina Vee panel before sitting down for a discussion on the art of writing with Levi Grossman. The panels themselves did have their highlights but, especially with Levi Grossman, author of The Magicians, it just wasn’t as exciting as I had hoped. Once again, I was reminded that even authors, be they great or small, are just human. Not all of us are great orators.
Even in our field of supposed expertise, we can struggle.
Still, it was good to learn that Levi Grossman had learned some of the tricks of the trade by working in the field of journalism before becoming a bestseller author. Along with the fact that he had written other books prior to his breakout novel starring the likes of Quentin Coldwater but it had been a struggle to find his voices.
So, maybe there’s hope for me yet!
@mrsarmageddon, unfortunately, was late for our very first out-of-office meetup. By the time she’d arrived, I’d already done a tour of the artist stalls and had picked up gifts for my friends, including @bleachpanda.
@bleachpanda, I hope you’re happy!
As we resumed roaming the halls, I got to meet @mrsarmageddon’s circle of friends (which was nice because most of my friends...well, they tend to like going to SMASH over Supanova). It’s always good to expand my circle of associates. One never knows when that can come in handy.
I jest.
In truth, I only met @mrsarmageddon‘s friends in passing before they disappeared to buy more merchandise from a stall.
By the time our feet were telling us to take a break, it was almost 4 PM. Since I had arrived at about 10:30 AM, I was exhausted but glad that I was laden down with impressive prints and a crocheted Appa, key Sky Bison of the Avatar Gang.
Not even two weeks after Supanova, I was back at it again. This time, I was attending SMASH with @bleachpanda. We arrived there early but still had no luck in nabbing spots at the maid cafe. A little disappointing, but no matter. There was always Japan.
Given that @bleachpanda didn’t have a panel she wanted to see until 12, we wandered through the stalls to see what goodies were being sold by entrepreneurial creatives. Much like Supanova, there were plenty of prints and artwork to be had. Although, there were more options for sexy anime figurines to make a grown man blush.
In the end, I purchased a blind box and an Ai Haibara keychain.
Yes. I’m one of those. A huge fan of the Detective Conan anime series. Which, honestly, isn’t getting as much recognition as it should outside of Asia. Who WOULDN’T love Kaitou Kid?
Honestly, it’s a surprise given how prolific Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie are in the Western world.
Alas.
After nearly choking in the mass of humans congregating in artist alley, we headed to Pyrmont Theatre for a panel with the one and only Toru Furuya. The iconic seiyu for many a character including Yamcha, Tuxedo Mask, Sabo and Toru Amuro. For me, who wasn’t as impressed, the panel was a little tedious due to the requirement for translation. That wasn’t to say Toru-sensei wasn’t enthusiastic. He was gregarious and suave throughout all his interactions.
When it ended, though, @bleachpanda was sorely disappointed that we didn’t get snippets of his voice acting talent. Rather, that had been relegated to the Sunday panel. Something that irritated Bleachpanda to no end as we then waited outside another room for an otome panel.
Of course, I’m not one to play otomes though I do very much like the visual novel style of games. After all, I played through all of the Ace Attorney games. But by 1:10 PM, the doors had yet to open. And I was starting to feel hungry. Beyond that, my old high school friend had texted me that they’d be at a nearby cafe. So, I thought, why not join up with them rather than wait in line for something that looked incredibly boring?
And I think it was a good call overall. For, as we walked past, sneaking a glance into the room, the otome panel appeared to be just a normal PowerPoint presentation to regale the audience of all the great things that can be found within.
Even @bleachpanda was taken aback by the lack of interesting slides that were on display.
Unfortunately, I walked in the wrong direction because there were TWO cafes with the SAME name within the immediate vicinity. So, rather than catch-up with my high school friend then and there, @bleachpanda and I ended up buying some food at a nearby food court.
But because of all the puttering about that we were doing, I missed out on the panel with Sungwon Cho, AKA ProZD!
The despair I felt then! Even as I trudged up to World Square to pick up a copy of the latest game from Spike Chunsoft, Master Detective Archives: Rain Code. Junko Enoshima would be proud.
We returned to the convention after fuelling up and spent the rest of it going through artist alley, finally catching up with my high school friend and watching a performance on the Hobbyco stage. I even bought a Good Game mystery box, walking away with three new board games that I’ll play sometime in the distant future.
It sucks to live so far from friends that one can play board games with. But, it’s the hand I’ve been dealt in life and one I’ll simply have to learn to deal with.
Overall, I’d have to say that the two conventions I attended this year had both perks and downsides. It was a shame that I didn’t get to see ProZD but, at the very least, I got a chance to hang out with my friends that I so rarely see now that we’ve hit our 30s and are busy trying to carve out a career, or in the case of my high school friend, contemplate if now is the time to have a baby.
I, for one, am still on the fence on whether I should just accept the fact that I’ll never find THE ONE and just put in some research on IVF and Australian sperm donors. While I like the idea of having a child, going it alone is going to be tough.
Of course, there’s still time. So, while I ponder my next steps, I’ll just enjoy my new Eunie, Tora and Reyn pins (characters from the Xenoblade Chronicles series) , along with the fantastical artworks that I bought that will decorate the walls of my future abode if my mortgage doesn’t force me to sell off my property.
What a time to be alive!
Oh, and before I forget, I’d like to think that I was quite impressive with my ability to find whatever stall I’d marked out to revisit. @bleachpanda was certainly astounded that I could seemingly navigate the veritable maze of straight aisles that was the SMASH convention, whereas she would have still been lost even if she walked through the room twice.
So, yay for my good sense of direction?
#personal blog#conventions#supanova#smash#prozd#voice actors#anime#artist alley#7/10 too much anime at SMASH#xenoblade chronicles#so many people#i would have been a kyndaris sandwich

Ptolemasis and its Ancient Origins
By J. Brown - This image is available from the National Library of WalesYou can view this image in its original context on the NLW Catalogue, Public Domain, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=73859614
Walter Savage Landor was an English activist and writer who lived from 1775-1864. He was critically acclaimed, though his generally popularity didn't reflect this. His writing spanned through four main areas: prose, lyric poetry, political writing (which included epigrams), and Latin. He was hailed as a 'poet's poet' by critics and was credited with inspiring W. B. Yeats, Robert Frost, and others. In his writing, he had ancient Greek philosophers in conversation with contemporary writers in his Imaginary Conversations. In his activism, he expressed support for the unification of Italy, and against the British politician William Pitt, who was the last prime minister of Great Britain and the first of the United Kingdom. He was considered headstrong and hot-headed with a complete contempt for authority, leading to many misfortunes in his life. He was successfully sued for libel, often leaving him with political enemies who he mocked with his wit at the moment or later with a 'biting epithet'. He was likely portrayed in Charles Dickens' Bleak House as Lawrence Boythorn as someone who was 'harsh but good-hearted'. Growing up, he had to change schools due to his conflicts with school masters and was asked to not be around visitors by his parents. He was suspended from Trinity College, Oxford when he was 18 for a year when he 'fired a gun at the windows of a Tory whose late night revels disturbed him and for whom he had an aversion', but he refused to return and resulted in him leaving home until he was reconciled when he was 20 through the efforts of a friend of him. Most of his relationships were similarly tempestuous, including that with his wife Julia Thuillier.

Ptolemais was a city in ancient Phoenicia, a port city in Canaaan, now known as Acre in the modern state of Israel. The Greeks called the city either Ake or Akre or Antiochia Ptolemais, which became its name after the conquest of Alexander the Great. After his death, it was simply called Ptolemais after the ascent of Ptolemy I Sater and became a part of Egypt. It was then called Akko by the Romans, then renamed Colonia Claudia Felix Ptolemais Garmanica Stabilis and was part of Roman Phoenicia. It was a center for the Roman army after the death of Herod the Great, then a center of Roman settlements, especially veterans as well as Phoenicians and Jews. It was the location of the first massacre of the Jews in 66 CE, which moved inland to Galilee. After the rule of Hadrian (117-138 CE), while the local languages phased out Latin in the area, the customs of the area remained Roman. In 351 CE, there was another Jewish rebellion and massacre under Constantius Gallus sparked by the Jewish majority rejecting Roman rule. It also held a role as an entry point in the Crusades in the 12th century, where its fall in 1291 ended the Kingdom of Jerusalem, also known as the Crusader Kingdom.
In the poem, Landor begins by stating '[n]o city on the many peopled earth/Hath been the witness of such valiant deeds/As though hast, Ptolemais!' He lists those societies who have had 'valiant deeds' in Ptolemais, beginning by mentioning the Crusades and 'our lion-hearted king', then 'he who drove across/The torrid desert the (till then uncheckt)/Invader, from the realms of the Ptolemies/Ruled'. The next group mentions is 'the Cæsars followed in their train'. It is a lyrical recounting of some of the leaders of the societies that ruled over the city, though many are either glossed over or omitted.
You can read the poem here.

Are you motivated to attain true spiritual enlightenment ?
Listen to the message. The message is that TRUE spiritual enlightenment can only be attained through Spiritual Master Saneiv...Solus Dominus ( Latin: One Master ), There are not plural spiritual masters. Master Saneiv is ONE with ZON, KZONTTON, ZONON ( The Trinity )...Outside of these teachings, There is NO light, Therefore there is no EnLIGHTenment. You join us, or you spiritually perish. Your choice...Perish or Flourish ! Master Saneiv resides in Arizona. There is a future "Saneiv Spiritual Enlightenment Center" planned in the Philippines ( with the right investors ) Currently, Master Saneiv is offering a live-in program with a co-op community dynamic. Forget about stereotyped spirituality and enlightenment images and practices; Master Saneiv has no connection with Hinduism, yoga, or any other Eastern Religion. You will never see Master Saneiv sitting cross-legged position, wearing beads and a robe...spouting nonsense to gullible followers. If you desire TRUE spiritual enlightenment, Contact Spiritual Master Saneiv, TODAY ! Find out why your spiritual enlightenment is not only extremely beneficial for your life and eternity, But through the Collective Consciousness with Master Saneiv, ZON, KZONTTON, ZONON, You will be a very necessary element to usher in TRUE WORLD PEACE. This is the ONLY Solution for World Peace. World War 3 is right around the corner, Unless YOU as part of humankind, Take action with Master Saneiv. How to join and start the only true spiritual journey ? First, You need to come to the reality that ALL of Master Saneiv's teachings are TRUTH and LIGHT. TRUTH and PURE LIGHT are ONE. It is also a harsh reality that you must agree with Master Saneiv that your EGO and SELF must be eliminated. Ego and "Self" is not your friend, Because you are attempting to connect with God, and this can only be accomplished in the spiritual-realm. God does not allow entrance into his "being" if there is ANY level of arrogance or pride ( pride that is not used in the proper context ) "Ego" defined; a person's sense of self-esteem or self-importance....Most people have been brainwashed / indoctrinated to believe that self-esteem, and self-importance are positive traits...They are not positive, They are actually very toxic, damaging traits. Your self-worth begins AFTER you have been Enlightened through Master Saneiv... Elimination of Ego and Self is not an easy task...and It will not be served to you on a silver platter. You come before Spiritual Master Saneiv as a symbolic act, Like you would come before God...in a submissive and obedient mind-set, or you will never be able to enter the right spiritual-realm. This is a Warning that some aspects of this process might be "controversial" to those who who are not enlightened and have no comprehension of what is required to attain TRUE Spiritual Enlightenment. All of Master Saneiv teachings are for consensual adults only, and they require spiritual-focused nudity. If you cannot or will not remove your clothes , fold them neatly follow directions as to where to put your clothes...walk back and kneel before Master Saneiv in submission and obedience, Ready for Master to put your training collar on, in preparation for your training to begin...if this is a sticking point for you, Then you are not ready to begin your training. The good news is that the Saneiv Spiritual Enlightenment Center and Universal Life Church is "clothing optional"...You can enter Master's teachings in a very gradual way. Through Spiritual Visions and Revelation by ZON, KZONTTON, ZONON, The most beneficial principles to build you up while eliminating your Ego and Self, is Master's version of Spiritual BDSM ( the 'S' in the acronym in Master's definition, Does not include Sadism ), The 'S' represents Master's version of Sacred Sexuality and Submission. If you cannot CHOOSE to be a fully-dedicated submissive follower, Then how can you claim to have complete freedom ? It might seem to be a paradox, But a consensual slavery role is the truest form of FREEDOM. Very strong emphasis on CONSENSUAL ADULT activities. It is of great benefit to YOU to not be deceived by the misinformation and lies about BDSM and Spiritual BDSM. But these two topics that I just mentioned must be only applied in context through the principles, protocol and techniques of Spiritual Master Saneiv. [email protected]

Noelle examined the ritual book Iyana gave her. After much consideration, she chose to perform the ritual far from Piltover; away from the innocent eyes of a little goat-horse she knows.
Jingle would never forgive her if she traumatized the little sweetheart.
So, she returned to her home realm. The basement of her home remained a viable workspace, despite it's disuse. Still, she wanted to ensure things went well. After moving the shelves out of the way, she activated the animated cleaning supplies to tidy the basement before she left to aquire the needed things for the ritual.
Most weren't too outlandish. Even the goat, although that was certainly unconventional for her. It seemed a little weird when she was asking around, so she went through her academy connections to source one as materials for a private necromancy experiment. It wasn't, of course. The ritual sounded far closer to contacting divine powers, but it wasn't her area of expertise, and it would be easier to just get the goat and use it however she needed to. The academy didn't really need to know the details.
Escorting the goat home made her feel a bit silly. She didn't know how professional necromancers manage this. She also didn't really relish the idea of what she needed to do...but while thinking of the ritual from an academic standpoint, she's able to push down her discomforts.
Reading and rereading the ritual, she set up everything as best as she could. Iyana did a lot of work to make this for her, and she wanted to do it right.
Taking a deep breath, she swipes her knife across the throat of the goat, allowing the blood to spill onto the ritual area. With another motion, she swiftly stabs the animal's heart to end its suffering. Easing the carcass to the ground, she sits and continues to follow the book's instructions to the letter, hoping the call into the ether would bring....someone. Anyone.
Minutes passed with uncertainty. Doubts began to creep in. Had she read it wrong? Performed it poorly?
Just as she was about to stop the ritual and ponder what it meant, she saw movement from the corner of her eye. When she looked up, there was....a stranger standing before her.
She stood up and looked at the unfamiliar woman....or....was she unfamiliar? No...she looked almost like Jingle, but her outfit was so...normal, and she didn't have the mark under her eye. But, standing before Noelle was a dark-haired woman that resembled her uncannily.
"Hello" Noelle said. The stranger's mouth moved, but no sound was heard. "I'm.....I'm Noelle. Who....are you? Are you....a sister? A mother, maybe?" The other woman's mouth moves along with her own.
When she reaches a hand up, the other does the same...and she realizes what she's seeing.
The woman was her.
Or...maybe a part of her? No....no, that didn't quite feel right. It's then that she notices spectral images of Jingle and Trinity next to her, facing the other woman.
...She was them. They were once....someone else. Jingle and Trinity reach their hands out like Noelle. There's a moment of clarity...and aspects of each Minette seem to line perfectly with each other....with the person they used to be....becoming the complete person they used to be.
But...there are other aspects, too. They've grown beyond being mere fragments and into their own people. However, when she looks at the stranger...she doesn't feel like a stranger anymore. She feels....warm...comforting....even confident. As she focuses on the now-familiar woman, she can feel a faint echo of others behind her. Were these the ancestors Iyana's ritual was meant to call? Do they respond to mere fragments of their bloodline? She...couldn't see their faces or bodies clearly.
It was then, she noticed that even her complete self was missing something. A core part of herself.
She reached out to herself again, and the reflection did the same. This...wasn't getting anywhere....they needed each other in different ways....so she turned her attention to the unclear spirits and reached out towards them, begging and pleading with them for guidance.
After a moment or two of nothing, she slumped to her knees. A few of the spectres approached her, regarding her for a moment, before kneeling down and hugging her. Noelle couldn't feel their touch, but she felt something else. Pity? No...empathy....love. Love she struggled to show herself.
The small mage cries quietly in her workspace, remaining there long long after the ritual's magic fades.

Mahadev Book: An In-Depth Exploration
In the realm of literature, few subjects capture the essence of divine power and cultural significance as profoundly as the Mahadev Book. This text serves as an invaluable resource for anyone seeking to understand the intricate tapestry of Hindu mythology, particularly the life and legend of Lord Shiva, known as Mahadev. This article delves deeply into the various facets of the Mahadev Book, providing a comprehensive guide to its themes, narratives, and cultural impact.
Understanding the Mahadev Book
The Mahadev Book is a rich compilation of stories, hymns, and philosophical discourses centered around Lord Shiva. It is not just a religious text but also a historical document that offers insights into ancient Indian culture and spirituality.
Historical Context
Mahadev, or Lord Shiva, is one of the principal deities of Hinduism, revered as the destroyer and transformer within the Trimurti, the Hindu trinity that includes Brahma and Vishnu. The Mahadev Book traces its origins back to ancient scriptures such as the Vedas, Upanishads, and Puranas. These texts collectively form the backbone of Hindu spiritual literature, providing a detailed account of the cosmological and metaphysical aspects of Shiva.
Key Themes and Narratives
The Mahadev Book encompasses a variety of themes that are essential for understanding the multifaceted nature of Lord Shiva. These themes include:
Creation and Destruction
Lord Shiva is often depicted as the cosmic dancer, Nataraja, who performs the Tandava dance, symbolizing the cyclic process of creation and destruction. This dance illustrates the dynamic balance between the birth and death of the universe, a central theme in the Mahadev Book.
Asceticism and Meditation
Shiva is also known as the supreme ascetic, embodying the principles of renunciation and meditation. The Mahadev Book highlights numerous stories of Shiva’s penance and deep meditation, which are integral to his persona as the ultimate yogi.
Compassion and Benevolence
Despite his fearsome appearance, Shiva is often portrayed as a compassionate deity who readily grants boons to his devotees. The Mahadev Book recounts several instances where Shiva’s benevolence is evident, such as the story of granting immortality to Markandeya and the distribution of the divine nectar during the churning of the ocean (Samudra Manthan).
Significant Stories in the Mahadev Book
The Mahadev Book contains an array of stories that are both enlightening and captivating. Some of the most significant ones include:
The Birth of Ganesha
One of the most popular stories is the birth of Lord Ganesha, Shiva’s son. According to the Mahadev Book, Ganesha was created by Parvati, Shiva’s consort, and was later given the head of an elephant after a misunderstanding with Shiva. This story emphasizes themes of loyalty, family, and the divine interplay between Shiva and Parvati.
The Marriage of Shiva and Parvati
The narrative of Shiva’s marriage to Parvati is another cornerstone of the Mahadev Book. It describes Parvati’s intense devotion and penance to win Shiva’s heart, symbolizing the union of the material and spiritual realms. This story is often seen as a metaphor for the soul’s journey towards ultimate unity with the divine.
The Destruction of Tripura
The Mahadev Book also recounts the tale of Shiva destroying the three cities of Tripura with a single arrow. This story illustrates Shiva’s role as the destroyer of evil and ignorance, reinforcing his image as a protector of cosmic order.
Cultural and Spiritual Impact
The Mahadev Book has had a profound impact on both cultural and spiritual practices in Hinduism. Its stories and teachings are integral to various festivals, rituals, and daily prayers.
Festivals and Celebrations
Many Hindu festivals are directly influenced by the narratives in the Mahadev Book. Maha Shivaratri, for instance, is a major festival dedicated to Shiva, where devotees observe fasting and night-long vigils, chanting hymns and offering prayers to honor the divine union of Shiva and Parvati.
Art and Iconography
The Mahadev Book has also inspired countless works of art, including sculptures, paintings, and temple architecture. The depiction of Shiva in various forms, such as the meditative ascetic or the cosmic dancer, Nataraja, can be traced back to the vivid descriptions found in the Mahadev Book.
Philosophical Influence
The philosophical teachings in the Mahadev Book have influenced various schools of thought within Hinduism, such as Shaivism and Advaita Vedanta. These teachings emphasize the non-dual nature of reality and the importance of self-realization, drawing heavily from the meditative and ascetic aspects of Shiva’s persona.
Modern Relevance of the Mahadev Book
In contemporary times, the Mahadev Book continues to be a source of inspiration and guidance for millions. Its teachings on meditation, asceticism, and the balance between creation and destruction resonate with modern seekers of spiritual wisdom.
Meditation and Yoga
The principles of meditation and yoga, as elucidated in the Mahadev Book, have gained global recognition. Practices such as Raja Yoga and Hatha Yoga draw upon the ancient techniques described in the book, promoting mental peace and physical well-being.
Environmental Awareness
Shiva’s association with nature and the elements is a recurring theme in the Mahadev Book. His embodiment of the mountains, forests, and rivers encourages a deep respect for the environment, a message that is increasingly relevant in today’s context of ecological preservation.
Personal Transformation
The stories and teachings of the Mahadev Book provide profound insights into personal transformation. The journey of self-discovery and the pursuit of inner peace, as depicted through Shiva’s life, offer timeless wisdom for overcoming modern challenges and achieving a balanced life.
Conclusion
The Mahadev Book stands as a monumental work that transcends time, offering rich narratives and profound teachings about Lord Shiva. Its influence spans across spiritual practices, cultural traditions, and philosophical doctrines, making it an indispensable part of Hindu literature. By exploring the depths of the Mahadev Book, we not only gain a deeper understanding of Shiva’s divine nature but also find valuable lessons that can guide us in our own spiritual journeys.
