Hostile Peace
After seeing some posts here, I started to think more about "Twinsanity." There is something I noticed before and want to address. Stoick was extremely homicidal towards Dagur, but it really wasn't warranted (at the time at least).
The first time is just as Dagur disembarks. He asks to get the tour like the normal traditions are for the treaty signing. Stoick mentions that Oswald never did that and Dagur says he's not his father. Now, yes, Dagur was being rude with how he came across, but in a way, so was Stoick. Dagur's a new chief and trying to actually do things the way they're supposed to be done. If getting the tour is the official way treaty signings are supposed to go, then Oswald just didn't do it properly and cut to the chase by only signing and leaving. Dagur's not in the wrong to want to do it a different way. As he says, he's not his father and has the right to have a different method. He still was impolite with how he pointed this out...but was he rude enough to deserve getting killed in front of his Vikings😬? I dare to say, no, he wasn't. Even Gobber had to tell Stoick that killing Dagur with his Armada watching wasn't a great idea.
Next time was when Stoick and Gobber showed Dagur the armory. The Berserker was testing out one of the swords (in a moment I think is fun because he's twirling it like someone twirls a pencil in their hand, so I just can imagine the times of him as a kid practicing). He threw it between the Berkians after he was done. Again, I'll admit that this isn't great, but he also has insanely sharp aim and was still laughing about his pretend dragon he was fighting. So, I don't think he was actually trying to hurt them. Stoick on the other hand had murder on the brain. He took the sword and was about to kill Dagur AGAIN.
Last time was with Barf and Belch. Dagur was interrupted when he tried to behead them in the beginning, so he went to the former Dragon Killing Arena to do it. Of course, as we're on the side of the dragons, we're supposed to be against this and I am. Still, to Dagur's credit, they did agree, this was tradition, and Berk claimed that they were no friends of dragons. Therefore, Stoick going up to kill him for being ready to slay Barf and Belch is an overreaction, unfair, and honestly as cowardly as it is foolish. This last part probably seems strange, but I can explain. Stoick went to Dagur's back to kill him. Slaying someone from behind (someone who does not even know you're an enemy) isn't honorable in the slightest. On top of it, killing an ally chief for seemingly no reason at a PEACE TREATY SIGNING is a sure fired way to have an entire tribe ready to kill your people. Berk wouldn't have been prepared for 50,000 people coming after her. So, Stoick was about to kill someone who hadn't deserved such aggression yet and plunge Berk into a serious war.
