I've made a new conlang Grambank entry for Trigedasleng! Jessie Peterson created a Google Sheets spreadsheet that conlangers can copy and fill out in order to share their work. I did one previously on High Valyrian, and now the Trigedasleng one is finished.. This won't tell you everything about the language, but it'll tell you a LOT in a very small space. If you'd like to do something like this for your conlang, the blank one can be found here.

I’m learning Trigedasleng bc I’m planning on shifting to the 100 and how cool would it be if I made myself the main character and got peace for everyone if I was multi lingual in a fictional language that not many speak in this reality 😃

You ever have an incredibly niche, bizarre skill or talent that is so insanely useless that you yourself anyways forget you have it.

Bos, ai lukot! :D
Just wanna say I love seeing someone who is using Trigedasleng on a regular basis in 2025. I'm about 10 years too late to the party with regards to learning Trig, so it's hard to find folks to learn with (I'm in the Slakgedakru Discord, but it's pretty quiet). Seeing your posts and tags on my dash help keep me engaged with it, so mochof!
Awww, thank you! You made my day. ^_^
I love Trigedasleng. I've been fascinated by how English has changed over time ever since I was first exposed to Middle English as a college student back in the 90s, so a language evolved from English, that's like catnip for me. It's tailor-made to light up the etymology-loving happy centers in my brain.
I will always love Trigedasleng and I will never stop speaking it.
Any time you (or anyone else) want any help with a translation or have any questions, or just want to chat in trig, feel free to tag me!

Bellamy blake x reader
Summary-
while trying and admittedly failing to learn trigedasleng bellamy interrupts and flirts with you?
Warnings
-None that I can think of?
you stared down at the long list of common trigedasleng words in confusion you never knew learning a new language could be so hard even with Octavia's help you could barely grasp the most basic words in the language
“mebi oso na hit choda op nodotaim?“ you tried to sound out your words coming out toddler like as octavia so kindly put it
You glared at her from across the table as she tried to cover up her obvious snickering with a cough I mean surely you weren’t that bad. It wasn’t a secret that you clearly weren’t the most skilled in the language but surely not laughable.
“ your pronunciation is wrong but uhm..better than yesterday?“ her sympathetic smile made you huff and lean your elbows against the table running your fingers through your hair.
“ I’m a lost cause octavia“ you threw your hands up beside your head and shrugged your shoulders essentially giving up you were hopeless
she laughed moving the piece of paper closer to you with an encouraging smile “ okay You’re not terrible you’ll get it in time promise.“ she patted your hand that was resting on the table with a genuine smile. You would be lying if you said it didn’t make you feel a little bit better. You rolled your eyes and reluctantly looked back down at the piece of paper about to attempt to say a new phrase but as you looked up Octavias attention seemed to be elsewhere. As you followed her line of vision, you spotted Bellamy coming back in through the gates a small smile appeared on your face as you saw him walking towards the two of you.
As he made his way to the table, he stopped next to you looking down at the piece of paper then at you raising an eyebrow
“ how’s the studying going? Made any progress?“
You put on a fake smile
“ oh yeah totally. I’m practically a pro with this. I think we can stop the whole studying thing.“ you smiled at him sending a small warning glare to octavia to be quiet, she just rolled her eyes at you watching amusingly you were never the best liar
“ oh yeah?“ he smirk at you. Before looking you up and down and speaking to you in. Trigedasleng
“yu laik cuta when yu focdo“ after he finished speaking, you tried to sneak a peek at the sheet of words but he quickly caught onto what you were doing and covered the sheet with his hands
“tsk no cheating hainofi“ he rose an eyebrow at you waiting for you to translate his sentence but when he saw you glaring at him he knew you had lied. He laughed patting you on the shoulder winking at you.
“ I’ll see you later yeah?“ he didn’t wait for an answer as he walked away. As soon as he was out of sight ignoring the blush on your cheeks you immediately looked down to the piece of paper looking for the translation of what he said.
“yu laik cuta when yu focdo“ as you muttered out the words running your finger along the paper looking for the translation as soon as you found it your mouth opened and closed like a fish
“ you look cute when you focus“ was the translation to what he said, cute? He called you cute as if that wasn’t enough as you looked for the translation for the other word he said if it was even possible your face transformed into one of even more shock.
“princess?!“ oh my god bellamy blake just called you cute and Princess you were going to faint as you looked up from the piece of paper your cheeks flaming you caught Octavia's eye as she smirked at you
“ he totally has a crush on you“
Yeah, he wasn’t the only one.

Silent bloom
Pairing: Bellamy Blake × reader
Warnings: Swearing, violence
Chapter: 3.02
“It’s been three hours,” Bellamy says, breaking the tense silence. “What are they waiting for?”
Frustrated, Monty taps his fingers against the steering wheel. “We should make a run for it.”
“No,” you mutter. “Soon as we step outside this, they’ll attack.” Ice Nation had you pinned down; you had been stuck in the same spot for hours. It worried you more that they hadn’t attacked yet and were just toying with you.
“They can also wait longer than us,” Indra points out.
“Fine, but we are lambs to the slaughter if we just walk out. We need to come up with a plan.”
“Okay, Bellamy,” Kane says. “You get in the turret, and you cover us. Once we get to that ridge over there, we’ll cover you.”
“Copy that; run fast.” Hesitantly, Bellamy does what he’s told. His hand lightly brushes over your back before opening the hatch. Slowly, he lifts his head out, but before he can bring his gun up, he freezes. “They’re here.”
“Everybody out, or the boy dies!”
Bellamy is suddenly yanked out of the river through the hatch. “We’re coming.” You lean over and forcefully shove at the door handle to open it. “Just don’t hurt him.”
“Wait-” Kane tries to stop you, but it’s too late. As soon as you unlock it, someone grabs you by the arm and tosses you to the ground.
You let out a loud grunt, feeling someone’s knee pressing into your back and keeping you in place. Shit, this was your fault for being so desperate to try and save him. Lifting your head, you meet Bellamy’s eyes. He shakes his head, urging you to stop struggling. Kane and Indra are thrown down beside you and are pinned down in the same way you are.
“All targets are secure!”
You found it strange to hear the grounders talking in English and not their own language. The grounders are wearing masks, so it’s hard to determine if they are definitely an ice nation or from another clan. It’s hard to pick up what is being said, but you don’t hear a single word being said in Trigedasleng. “It’s not grounders,” you mutter. “It’s not grounders.”
You fight the urge to scream when you hear Finn’s voice telling you to speak up. You’re snapped out of your train of thought when you hear Monty struggling as he’s yanked to his feet. “Give it back; it’s mine!”
“Monty, let it go!”
One of the grounders steps forward; their voice shakes as they say, “Monty?”
He stares across at the ground, his face twisting slightly as if he’s seen a ghost. “Mom?”
She pulls off her mask and runs to him, sobbing. She pulls him into a hug. “My boy, my boy, I thought I’d lost you.”
“Farm station, stand down.”
The person pinning you down lifts their knee off your back, and within seconds, Bellamy is beside you, helping you to your feet. “You okay?”
“I’m fine, are you?”
“Yeah…” leaning in close enough so only you can hear him say, “You had that look in your eyes again.”
“I’m fine.” You look across at the man who’s talking to Kane and ask, “Who’s that? He looks familiar.”
“Charles Pike was an earth skills teacher on the Ark.”
You wipe the loose dirt off your jeans with your hands as you walk over to them, beside Bellamy. A small smile is playing on your lips as you watch Monty reunite with his mom; the both of them look so happy to have found each other again. Kane looks around, trying to count how many survivors there are. “How many of you are there?”
“Sixty-three. The rest are camped in the mountains north of here. Grounder killers one and all, am I right?”
“Ohh rah!”
When everyone from the farm station cheers, you lock eyes with Indra. You chew on your lower lip for a moment before saying, “We still need to find Clarke.”
With his interest piqued, Pike turns to you and asks, “Clarke Griffin?”
Pike then turns back to face Bellamy, saying, “If only all my earth skills students were as good as her.”
Bellamy grins and shakes his hand. “It’s good to see you, sir.”
There wasn’t something about Pike you immediately didn’t trust. You go and stand beside Indra as Kane tells the others to go move the tree. Quietly, you say, “I haven’t spent much time with your people, but I know you’ve faced worse things than we ever have and probably have a lot of knowledge that we don’t.”
“What is it you want to know?”
“Can you tell if someone is dangerous to us?”
She gives you a knowing look, but instead of answering you, she cuts in on Pike, telling Kane how many people have been killed since arriving on earth. “The ice nation can be ruthless. Take pride in the numbers you saved.”
"Indra, this is Charles Pike. He was a teacher on the ark,” Kane says, patting Pike’s shoulder. “This is Indra. She’s the leader of Trikru and a trusted ally.”
Pike gives her a death stare and says, “I’ll have to take your word for it.”
“Indra is one of us,” you snap defensively. “She’s our person.”
The ride to the trading post is almost as tense as it was when you thought the Ice Nation wanted to attack. Soon as Monty pulls up to the building, Kane and Bellamy jump out. You wait a beat before doing the same.
Kane raises his hand, silently telling everyone to stop walking. You can hear what sounds like fighting coming from inside the trading post. Bellamy runs inside and pulls the trigger. Coming in behind him, you clap your eyes at women with long braided hair covered in blood.
You lower your gun and approach her cautiously. “Are you okay? We mean you no harm.”
The grounder was looking startled, biting at the inside of her cheeks. Not wanting to scare her further, you back off.
Indra looks down at the body of the man Bellamy just killed and says, “He’s a bounty hunter.”
“He would have been looking for Clarke.”
When Indra speaks to the women in Trig, Pike barks, “English!”
Kane looks slightly taken aback but quickly says, “Pike, go outside. Take Monty and Hannah with you; search the perimeter; and make sure he is alone.”
You watch the three of them leave, and you can't shake off the uneasy feeling that has settled deep within your bones. There was just something off about Pike, his hatefulness towards Indra. It wasn’t right. Just as you go, turn your head back around and spot a shadow in the doorway.
Finn.
Deep down, you knew he wasn’t really there; he was dead. But you stare at the doorway in a trance, waiting for him to walk in, until Bellamy shakes your shoulder and says, “Are you ready?”
“Uh yeah,” you didn’t want to admit you had completely zoned out.
He looks at you concerned but doesn’t say anything about it. “We might know where Clarke is.”
Turning back to face the grounder, you give her a genuine smile and say, “Thank you.”
“Niylah.”
“Thank you, Niylah.”
You follow the tracks. Monty is spotted through the forest and out into an open field. You walk beside Indra silently as she leads the way. Multiple thoughts were racing through your mind at once, and you just wished you could close the noise in your brain off.
Indra stops walking and holds up her hand. “Quiet. Listen.”
The beating sounds in the distance make you feel sick; it takes you back to the night Finn handed himself over to Lexa. Quietly, you ask, “War drums?”
“Azgeda.”
Using the scope on your gun, you try to locate the exact location where the sound is coming from.
“You can tell it’s Ice Nation from the sound.” Monty asks.
“No,” she says, pointing to three dead bodies on the ground. “From them.”
Pike and Bellamy cover the others while they move their bodies, so the grounders don’t think you’ve killed anyone. You spot movement in the distance. “Holy shit, it’s Clarke.”
Her blonde hair has red streaks in it; she’s covered in dirt, but it was unmistakably hers. Feeling vibrations, you move the scope over to the right and spot an army marching directly into the path of Clarke and whoever had her bound and gagged.
Bellamy goes to run to her. Pike stops him, saying, “You’ll never make it in time.”
You crouch down and say, “We need to wait for the army to pass before getting Clarke. If they see us, we’re all dead.”
Monty points out caves nearby, which would be the best place for you to wait for the army to pass. You notice Indra lingering behind the rest of the group. “Aren’t you coming?”
“I can’t go with you.”
“Why not?”
She looks at you and Kane. “The nation has crossed the border; they’re marching against my commander. I have to warn her.”
Kane nods understandingly and says, “We’ll find Clarke.”
“You better. The ice queen gets her first; she’ll be dead, and we’ll be at war.”
Inside the cave, you sit closest to the entrance, keeping an eye out for any enemies approaching, while the others sit further in the darkness, trying to get some sleep. You felt conflicted; you wanted to save Clarke and were willing to save your life to do that, but she also abandoned her people. Once she was saved, would Clarke even want to go back? You didn’t want to break Abby’s heart when you returned without her daughter.
Bellamy sits down beside you, and he squeezes your thigh lightly. It gives you comfort to feel his touch; he was the only person who made you feel safe. “What are you thinking about?”
“Indra. I wonder if she made it to her commander.”
“Hey,” he softly tilts your chin up and pecks your lips. “She’s strong, she’ll make it.”
Sighing, you rest your head on his shoulder. You listen intently as Hannah and Pike explain how Monty’s father died trying to save children who were being killed off by grounders.
“That was an ice nation,” Kane says. “Not all grounders are the same.”
“They are to me,” the words roll off Pikes tongue like poison.
You grip Bellamy's hand, holding onto him tightly. Not knowing what to say, you resume staring outside the cave, watching the army march by. Your eyes slowly flicker down to the three dead bodies laying not far from you, and a dangerous idea pops into your head.
“Bell?” You whisper.
“Yeah.”
“How much do you trust me?”
As you step onto the open field, the familiar sense of dread washes over you as you try your best to blend in with the army. You were surprised that Bellamy agreed with your idea of taking the clothes and masks of the dead men to blend in with the Azgeda army. It was probably one of the riskiest decisions you had made in a long time. Bellamy didn’t directly answer your question, but his actions led you to believe he did completely trust you.
In a low voice, he says, “If I get caught, you keep going, no matter what.”
“Ditto.”
You breathe in sharply before separating from his side to join the army. None of them glanced an eye in your direction as you slowly made your way to the opposite side of the army and into the woods. You’ve become so used to Bellamy observing you that you know it’s him walking a short distance behind you.
You finally stop when you reach a tree with blood on it and pull your mask off. “They can’t be far.”
“Over there,” Bellamy points to a bunker. “I’ll go in first; cover me.”
You check that nobody else is watching as he goes down the stairs, and once you’re sure the area is clear, you do the same. He waits for you at the bottom, saying, “We’ll check each side.”
Nodding, you start to walk in the opposite direction, but you only take a few steps before feeling cold metal pressing against your throat and a hand covering your mouth. The blade nips at your neck as Grounder forces you to walk towards Bellamy as he takes the gag out of Clarke’s mouth. Her hands are tied behind her back around a pole, preventing her from leaving.
“Untie Wanheda, and I’ll slit her throat.”
Bellamy attempts to fight the grounder, but is quickly knocked to the ground. His eyes are filled with fear as he begs, “Please, don't hurt her! Just let her go!”
“No,no!” Clarke protests. “I'll stop fighting and go with you. Please! Just don't kill them.”
You tilt your head back and bite down hard on the grounder's finger, causing him to yell loudly in pain. The last thing you remember is a sudden pain in the side of your head and hearing Clarke scream before everything goes black.

Cassie’s pov
Standing up on one of the lookout posts some of the teenagers had made on Bellamy’s orders. Scanning my eyes across the landscape I had been on watch before the sun had even risen up in the sky. Footsteps could be heard walking up behind me on the ground and climbing up the ladder until I registered it as the older Blake boy. “What’s the status report, Griffin Twin?”
“Griffin Twin. What’s up with the nickname changing all of the sudden?” Glancing over in his direction I raised a brow at his response.
He shrugged his shoulders in response. “Don’t know. Just thought you wouldn't mind now that she knows the truth.”
“I don't mind, it's just - I might miss the old nickname.” I admit to the older guy standing beside me. I wasn’t sure when it started but recently I haven't found myself hating him as much as I used to when we first met. Bellamy isn't actually an asshole all of the time.
Bellamy shot me a teasing grin, stepping up against me with our bodies pressing up against one another. “Careful what you wish for, Cassie. You might get more than what you wish for.”
“Oh really.” Turning my body to directly face him, smirking at him with a challenging tone in my voice. “How would you feel about me asking Octavia to start telling embarrassing stories about you growing up?”
His face turned red and light pink at my words. “You wouldn't dare.”
“Octavia! Oct - mmm.” Cupping my hands around my mouth I called her name out into the crowd of people at camp, noy knowing where she was at. Yet I didn't get to do it again, a hand clasped around my mouth, muffling my yelling.
Bellamy twirled me around where our noses touched the other as he shushed me. “You stop screaming and I won’t call you Cassiopeia. Deal?”
“You wouldn’t dare.”
He challenged me. “Cassiopeia-“
“Bellamy Blake!” Hitting him square in the chest he groaned at my hard punch.
He regained his balance and ran his fingers through his black curly hair. He got back in my face lightly scoffing at me. “You are so annoying, you know that?”
“Oh pfft. I’m a delight. Perhaps you find yourself annoying and not me.”
He scoffed under his breath. “Sometimes I can’t stand you.”
“Then why keep me around?” I asked him curious to see what his true answer was. I doubt anything has changed from me simply being his prisoner.
Bellamy leans closer whispering where I thought he might kiss me until someone called his attention away. “For some reason I feel like something between us that I don’t understand and I -“
“Bellamy! Cassie!”
Together we turned our heads at the same time. “What?”
“Someone left a folded up message outside the gate. It’s stuck to a tree. Do you want one of the guys to check it out?”
“No Miller. We’ve got it!” Bellamy called down to the guy. Together we climbed down from the watch point and made our way outside the wall. Bellamy had his gun raised following behind me as backup. Carefully I made my way over to the tree that had a folded paper stuck into it with a small dagger. Removing the weapon I snatched the paper and began unfolding it to see a long message written in Trigedasleng, the grounder language which only I would know. “What does it say?”
“Cassie Skai Kyongedon , You are commanded to return to Polis immediately. Your continued absence endangers the tenuous peace between our people. Should you fail to comply, I can no longer guarantee the safety of your people. Disobey me, and an army will follow. Disobey me, and your life is forfeit.” I chose to read it in English rather than having him be confused the whole time.
“Skai Kyongedon, what does that mean?” Bellamy focuses on the very last line written on the paper that he couldn’t understand.
Turning my head back up to meet his chocolate eyes. “Skai Kyongedon. It’s grounder for Sky Grounder. “
“We'll fight," he said, his voice firm. "We can defend ourselves."
I shook my head. "Against Lexa's army? It would be a massacre. We wouldn't stand a chance."
"Then we find a way," Bellamy insisted. "We always do."
But this felt different. This wasn't a fight against a common enemy; this was a personal battle, a clash of ideals, a heartbreaking betrayal. Deep down, I knew what I had to do. I couldn't gamble with the lives of her people. I had to go back to Polis, face Lexa, and try to understand what had driven her to this desperate ultimatum.
"I'll go," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. I held up a hand to silence Bellamy before he could say anything. "It's the only way. I'll reason with her. I'll… I'll find a way to make her see reason."
I knew it was a long shot, a desperate gamble against a powerful, ruthless leader. But Lexa was still the woman I know. I owed her my life and the future of the grounders would depend on me because of the secret she knew about my blood.
“Cassie! Bellamy! I need to show you two something in the dropship now.” Footsteps quickly approached us the second we had entered back behind the secure walls of the camp and I saw it was my sister Clarke.
Bellamy strides closer to her. “What happened?”
“Some men found Murphy outside the camp last night. He’s currently being held in the dropship.” She explained leading the two of us to follow her in the direction of the dropship.
The Ark
Luke plugged in a wire to one of the control panels while Glass stood off to the side. Abby was hooking up the video footage of her husband that she had shown them. The three knew that they needed to tell the Ark, especially before they executed more people to save months of oxygen.
“We won't have much time once they figure out what we are broadcasting.” Dr. Griffin Informed us, tying something on the tablet she was carrying in her hands.
Glass twirled some ends of her hair between her fingers. “WhY exactly do we do if they find out what we’re doing? They’ll likely float all of us for this.”
“People of The Ark, today I need to talk to you about our future. The things I need to tell you are serious. The Ark is dying. This city in space that has been our sanctuary.” Luke typed on a few keys on the computer before we heard Jake Griffin’s voice and recorded video appear across all screens. “Time is running out. This is an undeniable reality, but we have pledged our lives to make sure that humanity does not share that fate. Now, while there is still time, we must come together and face this crisis head on.I believe it will bring out the best in us... our strength, our humanity, our faith... that we will come together in this time of uncertainty.”
Abby swiped her finger across the iPad and switched to project her face across the tech of the space station. “My husband was killed for trying to warn us. In 12 hours, 320 people will be sacrificed to extend our oxygen supply unless we take action.”
“Luke!” Glass squeaked in fear hearing someone banging on the closed doors.
“Dr. Abigail Griffin, open this door immediately.”
“The future doesn't belong to the chancellor or the council. It belongs to all of us.” Dr. Griffin finished her speech turning off the monitor and glanced over her shoulder with some guards and Kane entering the room.
Luke protectively stepped in front of his girlfriend Glass. Glaring at the guards that were surrounding the three of them. “If you’re going to float us, float me first, not the girls.”
“I hope that you understand that you all are under arrest and will be charged with Capital Crimes according to the Exodus Charter of the Ark. Arrest them now.” Kane declared with a head gesture to the guards standing behind him.
Abby stepped towards him, getting up in his face before the guards made anymore moves. “Marcus, arrest me, not them. They didn’t help me do this. They came in here and found me putting Jake's video to the Ark. They had nothing to do with it.”
“Hmm. Dr. Abigail Griffin you are under arrest.” Kane paused, clicking his tongue before looking at Glass and Luke who were waiting for his response. “You two are free to go.”

On worldbuilding for drs:
I don’t want to claim to be an expert. However, I have taken a semester of specifically worldbuilding-oriented english writing, on top of being a literal english major. Needless to say, I think I know a *few* things on worldbuilding when it comes to fictional works. But drs are different beasts entirely.
When you’re writing, it’s easy to say “oh this is 20 miles from this” and leave it at that. But when you’re mapping/planning out new locations in a dr, for example, a post-dystopia where society is restarting at around the middle age- it’s important to be very aware of actual societal patterns and the WHY people would settle there. Understanding the fundamentals of human behavior is important for understanding worldbuilding as a whole.
Your world can look however. A remodeled United States, such as I have in my The 100 DR, won’t have the exact same lines for nations/communities. However, some nation/state lines exist for a reason. Most commonly, bodies of water. Large rivers or lakes in geography affect how people settle those areas. In the United States (which I’m using, because I have the most knowledge of the country and purely for that reason), the great lake area is incredibly fertile and has mild enough weather to be hospitable for all kinds of plants and livestock to survive year round. You can even weave this into land disputes- early english settlers to the ohio river valley fought a war with the indigenous tribes of the area for basically one reason- Beaver pelt. It was extremely valuable and actually they hunted beaver in the area to near extinction during and after the war. One people wanting certain land for purely agricultural and hunting reasons is a thing that has happened historically, and can be used as conflict points in a dr.
Language is also an interesting point. Sure, you can make up a language. That works fine. But also, knowing linguistics and incorporating aspects of cr language into your dr can make it more “realistic” and easier to learn and understand. Most languages stem from ancient languages- things like Latin and ancient Sumerian have stemmed into modern day English, Spanish, German, and even various Indian and broadly Asian languages. Using a post-dystopian US-centered example, you can take English and modify it to realistically have changed with times and cultures. Sticking with my 100 dr, there’s an existing language called Trigedasleng.
It’s derivative english. “Kom” in Trigeda is derived from “Come” in English, which ends up actually translating to something like “From” or “Of (the)” in English. “Kru” is directly derived from “Crew” on english, which means “people” in actual translation. “Heda” directly translates to “Leader” or “Commander,” but is derived from the English word “Head.” The head is in charge of the body, the Heda is in charge of the people. Trigedasleng is actually a “full” language developed by the writers of the TV show and even has an online translator. However, for my DR, I’m working on a lot more actual changes in the two languages, Trigedasleng and English. Only certain words have changed in canon, and I’m making a significant number of words actually change from their English counterparts.
Language also constitutes culture and societal differences. Does your dr society speak only one language, are multiple languages used? If they are post-dystopia, is the language entirely new, or derived? Again, in my dr, English is still used and spoken- but only specifically by Grounder warriors. Merchants, farmers, metalworkers, etc. only speak Trigedasleng. English is a language that has survived, but not thrived, during the rebuilding of society. Language can also be used to express class and status. Is knowing English a tell of formal education? Is speaking a “slang” version of a language used as a way to express lower classes or poverty? Take a look at American AAVE, used predominantly in poorer black communities. It’s English- with slight adjustments.
Take into account topography as well. If there is a mountain on one side, there may be a desert on the others. Take the Rockies for example, most of the land on the opposite side is desert because the mountains shield the brunt of the weather. If a society lives by the ocean or a big lake, the chances are that society has developed boats and use fishing techniques. If they live in snow areas, chances are they hunt rather than depending too heavily on agriculture yield. Valleys deep enough may have different weather than even just a few miles up in flatlands. Bogs, swamps, and other still water sources pose dangers to humans because of the species who live there, such as mosquitoes carrying malaria or aquatic reptiles such as alligators and crocodiles, or poisonous snakes. Therefore, it’s unlikely for a society to suddenly desire to live in the middle of the swamp, especially if they only have rudimentary technology.
Illnesses are also important to consider. For worldbuilding, it’s as much about the people and cultures as it is the physical map. Does one group have an immunity to one illnesses where another doesn’t, such as the real life application with the English bringing smallpox to the Americas? Would one group avoid another because they think they’re “sick,” whether literally or religiously? Religions are also a huge aspect of culture. We see it present even today in conflicts, and it also changes where people want to settle. Is there a “holy land” that the devout make pilgrimages to? Is there a blessed area that people believe if they can live there, they will prosper? Including the actual gods or deities in your dr is an entire other choice- but even if those religions are false or contradict other religions, people will still believe. It’s human nature to seek divine explanations when practical ones fall short.
If anyone has further questions, my asks *should* be open! I could rant about worldbuilding for hours.
Also, for reference, here are two (very rudimentary lmao) maps for my The 100 dr *some locations are changed from canon*:

Hello! I have been trying to find out if there is a Trigedasleng word for Phantom, but I have come up short.
you wouldnt happen to just know that would you?
Dokwocha is a word for "ghost". I find often, though, with questions like this there is often an expectation that there will be an exact match for a particular synonym that exist in English. For example, in the neighborhood of "ghost", we have spectre, phantasm, ghoul, spook, phantom, geist, poltergeist, spirit, shade, etc. You may look at some of these words and say, "Well, but that doesn't quite mean exactly the same thing," and I'm sure you're right, but the reason we have all these words is they come from different languages at different points in time history from different stories, different cultures, different traditions, etc. Their histories are quite specific, and so the odds of finding an exact match in a language that doesn't share the same history are astronomical. For a more absurd example, it's kind of like asking what the Dothraki word for "skibidi" is. Obviously that's an extreme example, but it's the same issue.
Now, Trigedasleng, of course, is unique. It derives from English. But it derives in an extremely contrived, unrealistic way. There was a massive schism that occurred with the nuclear event. American culture—world culture—effectively vanished over night for most people. What remained would have been what was committed to memory, then what the next generation remembered, and then what they passed on, and so forth. My assumption is that a lot of the synonyms that populate English vocabulary would have been lost. What synonyms remained would've taken on a more functional load in order to be retained (e.g. las from "last" means "previous", but praya from "prior" only means something like "baggage"; it lost its "previous" meaning)—at least at first. Synonyms come later.
When it comes to something so heavily cultural like "ghosts" I tried to imagine how superstitions would have reemerged within Grounder culture before the events of The 100—what kind of ghost stories they may have told, what they were afraid of, what kind of supernatural beings they may have dreamed up. I came up with the idea of dokwocha from "dock watcher"—one who watches from the docks—and thought it sounded ominous. I didn't have a specific story in mind, but it sounded like the type of thing older children might warn younger ones of. "Beware of the watcher on the docks!" Sounded spooky and fun. Hence, dokwocha. I don't know if it evokes the same thing as "phantom", or if, for whatever reason, you decided dokwocha wasn't good enough for "phantom", but that's what we have at the moment.
A commenter mentioned they thought it came from "dark watcher", and I actually went back and looked at the etymology and it does!!! That's my bad there. It is dark watcher, not dock watcher, and that makes sense (someone that watches in the dark). Duh. lol This is why you have to write these things down—which I did—and why you have to read the things that you write down—which I did not. >.<

Kova jokingly said they are gonna get him pregnant??? For real??? I need to read/hear more about this. It is tooooooo cuteeeee
And yes for #boywife bellamy!!!
"Jokingly"
LOL but yes! So I'm planning out the rest of NOSA after the Mount Weather arc when Bellamy and Kova (finally) get together, just to make sure the current plot and future plots are consistent with each other. I'm so so so excited to write and post the next book haha :3
And because this is the first time I'm really talking about NOSA on this blog, I figured I should explain a little bit:
The Night Our Stars Aligned (NOSA) is my Bellamy Blake/Original Grounder Character (Kova) fanfiction series posted on AO3. Enemies to lovers, slow burn, Black gender-neutral/androgynous/agender OC, and Trigedasleng/Grounder culture expansion (with influence from Indigenous/Black culture and history ofc. Trigedasleng has influence from my Indigenous language Kichwa 😎). I'll probably make an official post on the fic soon.
It's also a fix-it because j**** did my fave characters dirty.
#boywifebellamy i'm coming after you baby girl

Making a master list of all the Trigedasleng animal words I use for tags. Many of the noncanon ones would never be part of the canon Trig language because Kyongedon wouldn't need words for those animals, but having made the habit of tagging my posts in Trig, I need them.
I composed this from memory, so I may have missed a few or gotten a few wrong.
Cats Canon: sofstepa (soft-stepper) domestic cats; feisripa (face-ripper) large hunting cats Noncanon: snapkidi (fast kitty) cheetahs; ashkidi (snow-kitty) snow leopards; lafstepa (laugh-stepper) hyenas; stabkidi (stab-kitty) saber-tooths; sofstepon (soft-stepper person) catgirls, catboys;
Misc Mammals Canon: fecha (fetcher) doggos; trilipa (tree-leaper) deer; gapa (galloper) horse; snacha (snatcher) raccoons; twicha (twitcher) mice, rats, other small rodents; swapa (swiper) foxes; pakstoka (pack-stalker) wolves; thompa (thumper) rabbits; tedi (teddy) bears; skiwla (squealer) pigs; trashmoncha (trash-muncher) goats, kodchuwa (cud-chewer) cows; Noncanon: wordansa (war-dancer) weasels, ferrets [google "weasel war dance", it's adorable], other mustelids; sidansa (sea-dancer) sea otters; pakstokon (pack-stalker person) werewolves
Marine Life Canon: swima (swimmer) fish; finrona (fin-runner) shark Noncanon: bis kom siyon (animal from the sea) marine life in general; songswima (song-swimmer) whales; siflapa (sea-flapper) rays, skates; dai siflapa (dire sea-flapper) manta ray; sifecha (sea-puppy) seals; shouklaka (shore-klacker) horseshoe crabs; sidansa (sea-dancer) sea otters;
Dinosaurs Canon: gol (girl) dinosaur; klevagol (clever girl) therapod [i.e. two-legged] dinosaurs, including birbs; sora (soarer) birds; omi (all-meat) chickens; kwaka (quacker) ducks; Noncanon: nonavian dinosaurs: traik (trike) triceratops; longstompa (long-stomper) sauropods; thagomaza (thagomizer) stegosaurs; kwakspika (quack-mouth) duck-billed dinosaurs, hadrosaurs; teilsmasha (tail-smasher) ankylosaurs birbs: brolsora (battle-bird) ravens, crows, corvids; flousora (floating bird) waterbirbs, ducks, geese, swans;
(Note that this is not ALL Trig animal nouns, canon or noncanon. Just the ones I've used as tags here on tumblr.)

can anyone, anyone tell me what the heck the purpose of Trigedasleng is? There's some explanations out there about how it developed in a matter of a few generations, but I mean, dude, seriously, it just doesn't make sense for them to speak an entirely new language in a matter of three generations, okay

i was thinking the entire time that the fremen language in dune sounds like something david j peterson would’ve developed… and it turns out david j peterson did make the language for dune.
(fyi, david made dothraki and valyrian in game of thrones and also trigedasleng in the 100.)

I am tormented by one question. How in 100 according to canon people could forget everything, even the language, if they had rejected the past of humanity on principle, I would understand, but in the series everything was presented as if 500 years had passed, no less. 90 with a bit sounds absolutely ridiculous. Moreover, there could even be long-livers who were born or were children during the nuclear apocalypse
Truthfully, it's because it doesn't make any sense.
100 years is not nearly long enough for even half the shit they shoehorned into that show, much less all of it going through s7 (mind I only watched to 3x07, and then the 2 finales with Lexa, but I know the general idea of everything).
And what kills me is the entire premise. It's not even that they forgot everything, they just set up whole new ways of living. Somehow in a measly 100 years these people survived the fallout, resettled, built new villages and towns, splintered into "krus", developed ~long standing grudges~, went to war multiple times, created a new language (that was explained as an alternative to English for warriors to use on the battlefield so it was harder for the enemy to understand them, and yet,,,, every fucking body and their gay sister spoke it. It was the main dialect. How tf does that work? AND it was called Trigedasleng, meaning it was the Tree People language. Does that mean Lexa made everyone learn it? She had only been Heda for less than a decade and yet it was like... suddenly the standard dialect??? Wtf). They had these uwu long standing rituals and ceremonies for clans and Heda and fleimkepas all because they supposedly created a whole new religion, which, don't even get me fuckin started again on how the chip and everything didn't even exist in s2 because I will: burst a blood vessel.
No, 100 years is nothing in the grand design of time and it sure as SHIT is nowhere near long enough for everything that was of the Grounder Culture and all of its truly interesting complexities to have been implemented, much less become the social standard. It's just stupid, lazy writing. And I mean I realize they're very losely based off books (that haven't read and won't) so they had a general model they had to go off of in that sense, but yeah no. No. 100 years isn't even remotely enough time for even half of that to have happened.
