@tagedeszorns tagged me in an answer game, so I shall answer.
Last song heard: Not sure, I took a long walk yesterday evening listening to my usual mix of power metal, Youtube Amv finds and the stuff I listened to when I was a teen in the late odds and that still comprises the bulk of my CD collection. So let's just say Kerli - Strange Boy:
Currently reading: Lots of stuff at the same time, including Jane Austen's Persuasion in German in a beautiful special edition, David Graeber's The Utopia of Rules in German and Elizabeth Sandifer's Neoreaction a Basilisk in English. Been trying to get through these books for at least half a year, but reading a physical book has not really been possible. Audiobooks tho, so there I'm working through the complete works of Edgar Allen Poe.
Currently watching: Trese on Netflix. I'm a little bit surprised that the anime about the supernatural private detective with her two loyal boytoys didn't make more of splash, or maybe I just missed it.
Currently obsessed with: Horny Warhammer 40k fanfic and quilting. Those two have nothing to do with one another.

Welcome to Nightvale -> audiobooks -> Hi Nay -> Believer
Also
Hi Nay->The Magnus Archives -> Penumbra Podcast
I found Hi Nay because I loved WTNV but wanted something more immersive and fresh. I also really wanted media that wasn't by and about white guys, who have definitely saturated the medium. Enter this SUPERnatural podcast about a Filipina immigrant with a description that felt like Trese in Toronto??? I was hooked from the start!
hello err fans of podcasts :3 im doing a project for school on fiction podcasts so..
if you could reblog this with all the podcasts you listened to in order (if you want to provide commentary as to why you went from one podcast to another (for example, the magnus archives to malevolent as a popular example->the eldritch horror) that'd be really useful! thanks :)

[Edit: The video is already unavailable 💔 Props to the people who helped make this wonderful project!]
Omg you guys have to check out this link to the Trese: At the Intersection of Balete and 13th Street Audiobook!
It’s an amazing and well-crafted audiobook made by a group of amazingly talented fans and it’s currently available in youtube. Watch it while you can because it’ll only be available for 24 hours!
Here’s an excerpt of it’s video description in Youtube:
The Great Balete Podcast presents Trese: At the Intersection of Balete and 13th Street, a fanmade audio adaptation of the first entry to Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldisimo's critically acclaimed horror/ mystery komiks. Narrated by Katerina Rara and starring Jireh Silva as Alexandra Trese, the fully realized adaptation comes with a community driven cast, an original musical score, and a haunting tone that harkens back to the series' roots in radio drama more than two decades ago.
When the White Lady of Balete Drive is murdered, Captain Guerrero calls the help of Alexandra Trese to get answers. Aided by the Kambal, the BabaylanMandirigma of Manila dives into the inner circles of the city's Underworld, following a trail of clues to uncover a dark secret.

Honestly? The first book series that comes to mind is The Dresden Files series. Jim Butcher has the wit and heart down pretty early on. Though feel free to skip to book 3, it's pretty easy to catch up on last events there, and the writing improves.
The superhero novel "Soon I Will Be Invincible" has the bathos of Buffy down pat and it's dual narrators are fascinating to follow.
Some of C.T. Philips urban fantasy books ("I was a teenage Weredeer", "Straight outta Fangton") helped scratch that Buffy itch.
For TV series, I'd go with...
Wynonna Earp.
Honestly, that's about it. Few urban fantasy TV series really hit the right mix of things that made Buffy as good as it was.
And definitely not Charmed. For a lot of reasons.
If animation is no barrier and you want some good monstrous fantasy, I'd recommend Trese and Castlevania.
More fringe-y, I'd also recommend Sandman (Netflix , audiobook, or comic) and Terry Prarchett's works.
I find that the Guards series and Hogfather have the closest "vibe" to Buffy this side of Tiffany Aching and the Witches (which I haven't read for myself yet, but is on my list).
Does anyone know a book o book series that gove the same vibes of btvs?
Or any TV show that gives the same vibes?
